Forrister Doubles up with Tilted Kilt at Phoenix

MOORESVILLE, NC – November 12, 2015   NASCAR Camping World Truck Series rookie Korbin Forrister will run double-duty this weekend at the Phoenix International Raceway running both the NCWTS Lucas Oil 150 on Friday night and the NASCAR XFINITY Series DAV 200 on Saturday afternoon in the hometown of sponsor Tilted Kilt Pub and Eatery.

Besides running the No. 08 Silverado for SS Green Light Racing on Friday, Forrister will also pilot the No. 15 Camaro for Rick Ware Racing on Saturday making the second XFINITY Series start of his career. “It’s going to be a big week,” the Georgia native said. “It’s going to be a challenge to keep up going between the two garages, but I think it will be fun and the extra seat time should help me in both races.”

Friday’s Lucas Oil 150 will be Forrister’s second NCWTS start at PIR, he finished 15th last fall behind the wheel of the SS Green Light Racing Silverado. “I think Phoenix is a really fun track. There isn’t any other track like it with the dogleg on the backstretch. It’s different because you can run different lines and you can go real low through the backstretch, actually below the yellow line.”

Last year’s Lucas Oil 150 was cut short due to a power outage at the track forcing NASCAR to call the race after 126 of the scheduled 150 laps. “Hopefully the power stay’s on and we can run the full length this year,” joked Forrister. “Right now I just need to avoid the bad luck, run all the laps and continue to improve. I think this week we’ll show that the more racing the better. Maybe some day I can even pull the triple and run all three series.”

Fans can join Korbin and the Tilted Kilt XFINITY series Camaro at the Tilted Kilt Tempe for a pre-race party at 6:30 pm Thursday night. Plus the Kilt Girls will once again join Forrister at the track this weekend during pre-race activities. “Tempe is the home office for Tilted Kilt so we’re looking to have a lot of fun this weekend,” concluded Forrister.

The Lucas Oil 150 is the 357th consecutive NCWTS start for the SS Green Light Racing team, a streak that dates back to 2001. There are 34 trucks on the entry list for the 150-lap, 150-mile race, which will prelude both the Sprint Cup, and Xfinity races this weekend.

Practice for the Lucas Oil 150 will be Thursday, November 12th from 2:30 p.m. to 4:55 p.m. Qualifying will be Friday, November 13th at 10:45 a.m. and the green flag will fly on the Lucas Oil 150 at 6:30 p.m. Mountain time. Both qualifying and the Lucas Oil 150 will be shown live on FOX Sports 1 and will also be broadcast via the Motor Racing Network and on SIRIUSXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90.

Bobby Pierce and MB Motorsports look to further the young dirt tracker’s asphalt experience as he makes his first start at Phoenix International Raceway in the Lucas Oil 150 in the #36
    Pixographs Chevy Silverado.

“Bobby did a tremendous job at Martinsville,” says team owner Mike Mittler.  “How he maneuvered the truck through some of those wrecks was unbelievable.  I think Phoenix is an ideal track
for Bobby, so we’re very excited for Friday night’s race.”

“As I said before, Pixographs can’t get enough of MB Motorsports and Bobby Pierce!” exclaims RPM Services, LLC CEO Mike Kamp.  “After the response we received after Martinsville, I can think of no better way to promote our Pixographs app than with Bobby and MB Motorsports. The exposure at Martinsville really drove race fans to pixographs.com.”

Pixographs is an amazing new app for iPhones and iPads that will change the way the world looks at photos!  Imagine you’re at the racetrack and see your favorite driver. You could ask for
their autograph or maybe ask to take a selfie photo with them, but now you can do both! Simply take the photo the same way you normally would, but then open your Pixographs app, choose the color of the “ink” you want and have the celebrity sign the photo with their finger!  Pixographs can be purchased from the app store at iTunes for just 99¢.

Also supporting Pierce at Phoenix International Raceway are Obie’s Artic Chili, Chief City Vapors, Allgayer, Dale Moore and Blue Gold.  Rick Ren will once again be serving as crew chief on
    the #36 Pixographs Chevy.

“I learned a lot at Martinsville,” says Pierce.  “I’m hoping I can apply some of what I learned there to Phoenix. This is a learning experience for me, but at the same time, though, the
racer in me wants to bring home as strong a finish as we can.  With the help of Rick and the crew, I think we can have a good run for the Pixographs Chevy at Phoenix.”

The Lucas Oil 150 will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 1, MRN Radio and Sirius Channel 90 Friday November 12 at 8:30 pm ET.  Practice will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1 Thursday the 11th at 4:30 pm ET with Qualifying to be broadcast live on Friday at 12:30pm ET on Fox Sports 1.

    FAST FACTS:
    • The Lucas Oil 150 will mark Bobby Pierce’s second series start on asphalt, third series start overall.

    TOYOTA NASCAR NOTES & QUOTES
    November 9 – 15, 2015

    TOYOTA TIDBITS

LAST RACE OF THE ELIMINATOR: The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) now moves to Phoenix International Raceway for the final event of the ‘Eliminator 8’ round of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup championship playoff. After Phoenix, only four racers will remain to compete for the NSCS championship at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Sunday, Nov. 22. Camry drivers Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards currently rank second and fifth, respectively, in the NSCS point standings as they enter Phoenix where they have a combined 16 wins across NASCAR’s three national touring series. In the most-recent NSCS contest at Texas Motor Speedway, Busch finished fourth and Edwards took home fifth.

THREE’S A MAGIC NUMBER: Camry driver Erik Jones will again substitute drive for Matt Kenseth in the No. 20 Camry in the NSCS – in addition to his scheduled starts in the NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) – and Phoenix will mark Jones’ second-consecutive weekend competing in all three NASCAR national series. In Texas, Jones finished 12th in just his second NSCS start, won in the NCWTS and finished fourth in the NXS. The 19-year-old driver won the last two Phoenix NCWTS races and returns to the one-mile oval with the Truck Series points lead. Jones also finished sixth and fifth, respectively, at Phoenix in the previous two NXS events at the Arizona track.

TEST DRIVING A TUNDRA: Current NASCAR K&N Pro Series East champion William Byron will make his NCWTS debut at Phoenix as Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) fields four Tundras on the one-mile circuit. KBM recently announced the 17-year-old driver will compete full-time for the team in 2016. After competing in online racing as a youth, Byron began competing on race tracks in 2012 and ascended to the NASCAR national ranks in just three calendar years. KBM drivers have won the last four NCWTS races at Phoenix and the team will field Tundras for Byron, Jones, Daniel Suarez and Matt Tifft this weekend

    NOTES, QUOTES & NUMBERS

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS): Camry drivers have won 13 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) races this season … Toyota needs one more victory in 2015 to tie its most wins in a single NSCS season (14 victories in 2013) … Toyota drivers have two NSCS victories at Phoenix International Raceway (Denny Hamlin in March 2012 and Kasey Kahne in Nov. 2011).

KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 M&M’s Crispy Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

How confident are you as the series heads to Phoenix International Raceway?

“Being in this position, it’s obviously good, but I’ve been in a really good position before and had stuff happen and been knocked out. We don’t need to have any of that. We just need to go out in Phoenix and have a good, solid day. That place hasn’t been the best for our company over the last few years, but I’m looking forward to getting out there and hoping that we’ve got a really good piece in order to carry M&M’s and myself and everybody on this JGR (Joe Gibbs Racing) team to Chase contention going to Homestead.”

Does being second in point impact your strategy for Phoenix?

“It will go into our strategy a little bit. If we’re running fifth to 10th, that’s what we need to do. If we’re running 15th, there’s a guy behind us who if he passes us he’s going to knock himself in and us out, so you’re going to have a heck of a lot harder race on your hands. We just don’t need to run like that. We need to go out there and perform, do what we’ve done this round and that’s to finish top-five. If we can top-five it this week, that’s going to help our situation and roll us right on to Homestead. In a perfect world, we’ll sit on the pole, win the race and take a win on into Homestead with some good momentum and looking like a real contender.”

CARL EDWARDS, No. 19 STANLEY Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

What is the mindset at Joe Gibbs Racing right now?

“Everybody is just blazing forward to win a championship. As a group, we feel like we have a shot to win this championship – that’s what my 19 team is working on. I talked to Darian (Grubb, crew chief) a little bit about it as we were going to lunch – we have a fourth team that we started, we’ve never worked together and here we are with a shot at this and we have fast cars and need to keep working on that.”

Why do you enjoy racing at Phoenix?

“Phoenix is one of my favorite race tracks. It’s the first place I’ve ever raced on pavement. It was a really big deal for me in the Copper World Classic in 2001. That place is special for me. I’ve had some really great races there – struggled a little bit lately. The 20 (Matt Kenseth) had a good test out there and we feel it could be a good race for us. As that place ages, it changes a lot. Just like anything, every time you come back, you come back with better stuff and different strategy and different setups, so you just don’t know until after that first practice sessions what you have.”

NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS): Camry drivers Daniel Suarez (seventh) and JJ Yeley (13th) currently rank in the top-15 in the NXS point standings … Suarez leads the NXS Rookie of the Year standings by 36 points over Darrell Wallace Jr. with two races remaining … Ross Kenseth, the son of NSCS Camry driver Matt Kenseth, will make his second-career NXS start on Saturday at Phoenix International Raceway in the No. 80 Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing … The 22-year-old driver started second and finished sixth in his NXS debut at Chicago in June.

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS): Tundra drivers Erik Jones (first), Matt Crafton (second), Johnny Sauter (fourth), Timothy Peters (fifth), Cameron Hayley (sixth) and Ben Kennedy (ninth) are in the top-10 in the NCWTS point standings … Jones currently holds a 17-point advantage with just two races remaining … Toyota leads the NCWTS manufacturer standings by 66 points entering the penultimate event of the season at Phoenix International Raceway … Toyota will clinch the title if a Tundra driver finishes 14th or better at the Arizona oval.

ERIK JONES, No. 4 Toyota Certified Used Vehicles Toyota Tundra, Kyle Busch Motorsports

Is the Phoenix International Raceway race somewhat unpredictable?

“For us, I don’t think Phoenix is too big of a wild card knowing that we’ve been so fast there the last two years and picking up my first truck win there in 2013 and then winning again last year. That’s probably the one of the last two I’m most looking forward to – I think Homestead is more of a wild card for me just because I’ve never been there and don’t really have any experience at that place, but the situation is going to differ so much depending on where the points are and how everything shakes out. If we were to go into Homestead with a 20 point lead, it would be a pretty easy day – just don’t wreck. We’ll see how that all shakes out, but I think Phoenix for us is one we’re all looking forward to.”

WILLIAM BYRON, No. 009 Liberty University Toyota Tundra, Kyle Busch Motorsports

Have you talked to your teammates about what to expect in your first Truck Series race?

“I have talked to Kyle (Busch, team owner) a little bit about what to expect when I get into a truck for the first time, so I feel well prepared and ready to go. I’m sure they will all be great resources once we get to the track. Now it’s just about getting in the Liberty University Tundra and seeing what I can do.”

  • National Motorsports Appeals Panel Statement: No. 33 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series team

National Motorsports Appeals Panel Statement: No. 33 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series team

    National Motorsports Appeals Panel Statement
    (Nov. 10, 2015)

The National Motorsports Appeals Panel today heard and considered the appeal of a P4 level penalty issued on Oct. 28 to Shane Huffman (crew chief), Brandon Jones (driver) and Maurice Gallagher Jr. (owner) relative to the No. 33 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series team at Talladega Superspeedway.

The penalty concerns the following sections in the 2015 NASCAR Rule Book: Sections 20.4.12.2; 20.20.a; 20.4.f; P4, 12.5.3.4. b&d, Penalty Options; P4, 12.5.3.4.1 d&f, Penalty Examples.

The original penalty assessed included: Huffman was fined $10,000, suspended for the next three NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Championship events, plus any non-championship races or special events which might occur during that period, and placed on NASCAR probation for a six-month period following the issuance of the penalty. Jones and Gallagher Jr. were also assessed with the loss of 25 championship driver and 25 championship owner points, respectively.

Upon hearing the testimony, the decisions of the National Motorsports Appeals Panel are:

    1.                  The Appellants violated the Rule or Rules set forth in the Penalty Notice

    2.                  The Panel finds that the suspension portion of the Penalty for the crew chief should not last beyond the current season in this special case because of the delay in the originally scheduled hearing. All other portions of the original Penalty as levied by NASCAR (e.g.; owner points; driver points; fine; probation) are affirmed and upheld.

The panel consisted of the following three individuals:
    Mr. David Hall
    Mr. Hunter Nickell
    Mr. Kevin Whitaker

The Appellants have the right to appeal the decision of the National Motorsports Appeals Panel to the National Motorsports Final Appeals Officer in accordance with Section 15 of the NASCAR Rule Book.

  • Jones Extends Championship Lead With Truck Series Win At Texas

Jones Extends Championship Lead With Truck Series Win At Texas

    By Reid Spencer

FORT WORTH, Texas – On turf that typically belongs to two-time defending NASCAR Camping World Series champion Matt Crafton, Erik Jones dominated on Friday night.

Jones led 117 of 147 laps on the way to victory in the WinStar World Casino & Resort 350 at Texas Motor Speedway, his first win at the venue, his third of the season and the seventh of his career.

In an event that featured only one caution, a track-record low, Jones finished 2.855 seconds ahead of runner-up and NASCAR Driver for Diversity alum Daniel Suarez, who matched his career-best finish. Jones extended his series from 10 to 17 points over Crafton, who ran fourth after winning the Keystone Light Pole Award. There are two more races left in the Truck Series season.

The top two finishers drove Toyotas fielded by Kyle Busch Motorsports.

Jones, who is doing triple duty this weekend at Texas, will race the No. 4 Tundra next at Phoenix, where he has won the last two races.

“Getting the win here, that’s a nice boost for everybody, not just myself but everybody at KBM,” Jones said. “We needed this to get back on track. We’ve struggled a little bit the last month, month and a half and worked hard to get back to this point.

“And now, to go out there and win one the way we did, and lead as many laps as we did, that’s a really nice statement for us. Hopefully, we can go to Phoenix and do the same kind of thing we’ve done the last two years. It’s nice to have that points lead back up closer to the 20 range than the 10 range, but we still have two more weeks, and we have to hold onto it, be strong and close this deal out.”

In recent years, Crafton’s been the dominant force in the series at 1.5-mile intermediate speedways, but Jones grabbed the lead on Lap 13 and pulled away to a lead of nearly three seconds. Joes squandered that advantage with a slow pit stop under green on Lap 47, but the lone caution on Lap 54 bunched the field and erased a lead of 5.9 seconds built by Crafton.

Jones overtook Crafton for the top spot on lap 65 and controlled the race the rest of the way, losing the lead only briefly during a cycle of green-flag pit stops around Lap 100.

The race was the shortest ever in the Truck Series at Texas, lasting just one hour, 23 minutes and 48 seconds.

  • Jones Wins NCWTS Winstar World Casino & Resort 350

Jones Wins NCWTS Winstar World Casino & Resort 350

FORT WORTH, Texas (November 6, 2015) – Rookie Erik Jones continued his march toward a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship with a dominating victory in Friday night’s WinStar World Casino & Resort 350 at Texas Motor Speedway.

Jones (No. 4 Toyota) led 117 laps of the 147-lap event as he cruised to a 2.855-second margin of victory over Kyle Busch Motorsports teammate Daniel Suarez (ARRIS Toyota) for his third win of the season and sixth of his career. It also was his first NCWTS win at Texas, which came in his third career start.

The victory allowed Jones to stretch his championship lead from 10 points to 17 over two-time defending NCWTS champion Matt Crafton (No. 88 Damp Rid/Menards Toyota) despite his strong outing. Crafton started on the pole and led 27 laps en route to a fourth-place finish, his seventh top-10 effort in the last nine races.

Jones, however, extended his run of consecutive top-10 finishes to 13 with the win, allowing him to inch closer to that series crown with races remaining next week in Phoenix and then the Nov. 20 season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Jones, who won his first career XFINITY Series race at Texas in April, took the lead from Crafton on Lap 13 and did not encounter any major challenges throughout the evening. Crafton led again for a 15-lap stint from Laps 50-64 before Jones took complete command and led 82 of the final 83 laps.

Caution periods and possible gambles by other drivers never came about as the race established a track record for fewest cautions (1) and caution laps (8). The race also set a track record in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series for fastest time of race at 1 hour, 23 minutes and 48 seconds. The previous mark was 1 hour, 25 minutes and 30 seconds from the fall race in 2012.

In addition to the 1-2 finish by Jones and Suarez, it was a banner night for Kyle Busch Motorsports as all three of its drivers finished in the top 10. Christopher Bell (No. 54 JBL Toyota) rounded out the strong performance for the organization with an eighth-place finish.

Toyota NCWTS Texas Erik Jones Matt Crafton Notes & Quotes

TOYOTA NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS)
Matt Crafton & Erik Jones – Notes & Quotes
    Texas Motor Speedway – November 5, 2015

Kyle Busch Motorsports driver Erik Jones and ThorSport Racing driver Matt Crafton were made available to the media at Texas Motor Speedway:

ERIK JONES, No. 4 Toyota Tundra, Kyle Busch Motorsports
What are you expectations for the next three weekends?
“Need to do a lot better job than we’ve done the last week at Martinsville and then really at Chicago before that, so I think these next three tracks coming up for – here at Texas we were fast in the spring, in Phoenix we’ve been fast there always and I think they’ll be a lot better off for us, so we’ll see. I think we can definitely go out and contend for a win here the next three weeks really and just see how it all plays out.”

Have you met with crew chief Jason Ratcliff about possibly driving the No. 20 Camry in the NSCS this weekend?
“No, I haven’t. We’re just waiting to see what happens here with the appeals process in a few hours and see where it goes from there, but, you know, obviously the truck and the XFINITY car are my main focus. That’s what  I know I’m doing coming into this weekend, so if that were to happen obviously I’m going to do the best I can for them and just to keep them in contention and hopefully have a good race for them. But we’ll just see what all happens there and obviously we’ll go into the truck race here first this weekend and try to fire off and get ourselves back to where we need to be in that series.”

Is it more difficult having to battle Matt Crafton, a two-time champion?
“You know, being in this situation I guess is a new experience for me at this level at least. I’ve done it in the Late Model stuff and I’ve done it on the owner’s championship side of things, but obviously the 88 team and Matt (Crafton) and Tyler (Reddick) have been running well the last few weeks and gained points back up on us that we had made up, so we just need to make sure we’re doing all that we can every week to get out and run as well as we can and just go out and get good finishes. Like I said, I feel like Martinsville was definitely going to be a rough one for us and it was. It didn’t work out how we wanted it to, so we’ll go into this weekend and the next few with definitely high hopes that these tracks have been good to us in the past and not only good to me at KBM (Kyle Busch Motorsports), but KBM in general, so hopefully we can come out of here with some strong runs and maintain this point lead.”

What are you looking forward to doing in the offseason that you can’t do in the regular season?
“Sleep. It seems like it’s been busy here the last few weeks especially for me – just been  kind of running around and trying to do a lot of things in a lot of different directions, so it’d be nice to just get some rest and for me be home in Michigan. I haven’t been home in quite a while.”

Does it ease your mind knowing you’ve filled in driving in the NSCS twice previously?
“Bristol was, I think, a tough situation for everybody never being in a Cup car altogether and then I was really comfortable at Kansas. I was pretty happy with the way things were going up to the point that I lost it, but running up in the top-10 and being competitive and being in contention definitely gave me a lot of confidence for the next opportunity that I get whether it be this weekend of whether it be in a year or two years or whatever it may be. I definitely feel confident in myself to be able to go out and do a good job.”

What would it mean to you win to win the NCWTS championship with regards to Joe Gibbs Racing’s plans for you?
“Well, for me, honestly more than winning it for myself, just giving back to KBM (Kyle Busch Motorsports) – the whole organization – for Kyle (Busch, team owner), you know? Obviously, I want to win the championship, but Kyle’s wanted a driver’s championship since he started his program in the Truck Series and hasn’t been able to get it with a few drivers, so if I could bring that back for him, you know, that’d kind of be just a nice thank you for the last three years and what he’s done for me over those three years. So, obviously we all want to win it as an organization and I want to win it as well. It’s nice to know what we’re doing next year, but for me to have a Truck Series championship and know that we can have the opportunity to get an XFINITY Series championship next year, it’d be nice to have both of those series championships. There’s only a few guys that have been able to win in both those series, so for me it’s kind of the stats thing. You always want to be able to look back at those stats and getting that championship trophy would just be kind of one of the cool steps in my career that I would be able to be able to hopefully accomplish.”

MATT CRAFTON, No. 88 Damp Rid/Menards Toyota Tundra, ThorSport Racing
What are your goals coming off a win?
“We just have to get doing the same thing we’ve been here the last couple of months and just not have any bad luck. Honestly, we’ve all three (Erik Jones, Tyler Reddick and Crafton) had very, very fast trucks and I’ve had horrendous luck and led a lot laps the last few races and hopefully the best man wins at the end.”

What are you looking forward to doing in the offseason that you can’t do in the regular season?
“I’m just going out to the desert and, like I said, have no cell phone service. That’s probably one of the greatest things and don’t have to be bothered and get to just go play with the sand car and have fun.”

Are you interested in moving to the NSCS and do NCWTS teams test in the wind tunnel?
“I’m very happy doing what I’m doing. As long as I can be competitive, I wouldn’t want to go run in any other series and run 20th to 43rd – that’s just not me. There’s a reason why I’ve stayed in the Camping World Truck Series – it’s great racing. I think any race fan would believe in saying the same thing. If you want to watch a great race on Friday night or Saturday, you’re going to watch a Truck race, so that’s huge in my part and it’s not just about the money. It’s about knowing you can win races and Duke and Rhonda Thorson (team owners) and Menards has been with me a long time and I’m very happy there. Wind tunnel testing – yeah, we definitely – all of our mile-and-a-half trucks go in the wind tunnel, and, like I said, we work on all that. I’m sure each and every team in the top-15 does the same thing.”

What have you thought of Cameron Hayley and is he returning to ThorSport Racing in 2016?
“I have no idea what their plans are for 2016. Cameron’s (Hayley) done a very, very good job. He had a lot of speed at the beginning of the year, but now he’s been able to put races together and that’s very good to see for that whole group with the 13 group and ThorSport and Duke and Rhonda (team owners) and Cameron and them. Like I said, they’re finally executing and finishing races where they should.”

Does your experience give you a competitive advantage?
“I’m not worried about it. Like I said, I’m just going to go into the next three races and try to lead the most laps and win the race and I know how it was trying to win my first championship and, like I said, just sleepless nights and when you’re the points leader and you – I said, you’re going, ‘What can go wrong? What? Can I make a mistake,’ and I said, ‘It’s his championship to lose and ours to win right now,’ and he’s got to be on defense and all we’ve got to do is play offense and try not to make any mistakes and he’s got to do the same thing. We all do and we just can’t have any bad luck.”

What challenges are there filling in for a driver in a hurry like you did for Kyle Busch at Daytona in February?
“It’s not honestly as nerve-racking as you’d think and whenever I got the call – I think it was on Saturday night at about 7 o’clock and I didn’t have time to think about anything. I just went straight to JGR (Joe Gibbs Racing) and sat in some seat inserts. I’m sure at least he has his own seat insert to be able to fit in the seat. I sat literally in Kyle’s (Busch) – I couldn’t fit a seat insert into his seat that would fit me and that was one of my biggest problems running the 500 miles in somebody else’s seat. I remember at the end of the race, my back was hurting so, so bad, but we’re race car drivers – we adapt to the situation. Like I said, this has been Erik’s (Jones) dream I’m sure to race in Sprint Cup. I’m sure it’s definitely not the opportunity he wanted to get here, but – same way with me running the Daytona 500. Definitely, I’ve always wanted to say I ran the Daytona 500, but I didn’t want to say I did it for my buddy that was hurt for sure.”

  • Matt Crafton Wins Kroger 200 at Martinsville Speedway

Matt Crafton Wins Kroger 200 at Martinsville Speedway

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (Oct. 31, 2015) – Matt Crafton survived three late-race restarts in the last fifteen laps to win the Kroger 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Martinsville Speedway.

It’s the two-time defending series champion’s second win at the historic half-mile speedway.

“It’s very big, if you look at the last few races – Talladega, Las Vegas and we’ve led the most laps in all those,” Crafton said. “I have no idea what we led today, but we led enough and we led the right one.”

Crafton took the lead on lap 138 and led the final 63 laps en route to his fifth win on the season.

“You win five races and if you don’t win the championship then it wasn’t meant to be,” he said. “We’ve done our job for the most part and I’ve made mistakes, the team as a whole has made mistakes and we win as a team and we lose as a team.”
John Hunter Nemechek finished second, but said he felt he had a shot at the win.

“I made a mistake on one of the last restarts,” he said. “I hit the curb going into one and slid my tires. It stinks because it cost us a race.”

Cole Custer, who started on the pole and led a race high 96 laps, finished fourth.

Tyler Reddick rounded out the top-five.

Erik Jones, who entered the race with an 18 point lead in the championship standings, finished 10th. He remains the points leader, but now only holds a 10-point advantage over Crafton.

Racing returns to Martinsville Speedway tomorrow for the running of the Goody’s® Headache Relief Shot® 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race.

The race opens the Eliminator Round of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.
