  • Clay Greenfield ready for Daytona redemption

Clay Greenfield ready for Daytona redemption

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – One of the feel-good stories from the 2018 NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series (NGOTS) Daytona season-opener will have another opportunity to shine again as Clay Greenfield (@ClayGreenfield) and his Clay Greenfield Motorsports (CGM) team will compete in Friday night’s NextEra Energy Resources 250.

“I’m excited for an opportunity to get back to Daytona and put our No. 68 Chevrolet Silverado in contention for another good finish,” Greenfield said.

“We had a real good run going last year and we got involved in a crash late in the race. Maybe luck will strike twice, and we’ll be just as competitive this week and have a shot at redemption on Friday night.”

Last year, Greenfield stunned the Truck Series regulars by qualifying a career-best third and remained a factor in the season-opening race until being swept into a Lap 81 crash that resulted in a disappointing 22nd place finish.

Despite the finish, Greenfield praised the then new spec NT1 engine approved for competition last year. Greenfield explained the new engine allowed his team the opportunity to come to the 2.5-mile superspeedway and have a shot at being competitive from the moment they unloaded.

Traditionally, Greenfield has been a crafty plate-racer, but limited finances have hindered his opportunity to make a statement from start to finish during either Daytona or Talladega weekend. Last year, Greenfield led the parade of solo teams utilizing the new motor to their advantage.

“I’m very thankful for the NT1 engine,” added Greenfield. “It has allowed a small team like mine, based out of Tennessee to come to the track to be competitive. Whether it’s a big track like Daytona or Talladega – or a small track like Bristol, I feel relieved knowing that we’re going to the track with a fighting chance with the horsepower under the hood – rather than having to sweat it out.”

CGM will run a limited Truck Series schedule in 2019 and while the lineup is still being finalized, Greenfield says the addition of new partner Rackley Roofing for Friday night’s 100-lap race could provide the chance for him to increase the number of races run this season.

For more than four decades, Rackley Roofing has been serving the industrial and commercial roofing needs of customers in Tennessee, including the Nashville, Knoxville, Memphis, and Chattanooga areas. Their full-service roofing capabilities and unmatched customer service combine to exceed their customers’ expectations and create a higher standard in commercial roofing.

“I’m super stoked to have Rackley Roofing on board for Daytona this weekend,” Greenfield added. “I’ve gotten to know everyone there pretty well and they are very supportive in our program and what we are trying to accomplish. I hope the opportunity works out where we’re able to put some more races together down the road.”

In 42 NGOTS starts, Greenfield has two top-10 finishes, including a career-best eighth at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway in 2017. In addition to Trucks, the 34-year-old has made limited starts in the Xfinity Series and ARCA Menards Series.

  • Robby Lyons looking to guide Chad Finley Racing through Daytona season opener

Robby Lyons looking to guide Chad Finley Racing through Daytona season opener

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – For Robby Lyons (@RLRacing2) and his Chad Finley Racing (CFR) team, the wait is nearly over.

After an aggressive offseason of building race trucks and preparing for their first race of the 2019 NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series (NGOTS) season, Friday night’s NextEra Energy Resources 250 provides an opportunity for CFR to strut their stuff at the historic Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.

Flashback to last October at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, Seminole, Fla.-based driver Lyons forced his way into the spotlight after qualifying 26th and contending for the race lead before being shuffled in the waning laps and scooping a 14th place finish.

The effort steered by CFR crew chief Bruce Cook gives the team a mission for the 100-lap race on Friday night with the support of partners Sunwest Construction LLC. of Indian Rocks Beach, Fla.

Sunwest Construction was founded in 1986 and has grown into the premier construction and development company on the west coast of Florida. Over the past 30 years, they have built and developed over 1,700 condominium units and now specialize in mid-high-rise developments as well as commercial buildings and hotels alongside Marriott and Hampton Inn.

Lyons will make his second NGOTS start at the “World Center of Racing” after qualifying 25th and finishing 13th last February for Premium Motorsports.

“Looking forward to Daytona this week for sure,” said Lyons. “It’s been a very busy offseason for us, but we feel like we’re coming to Daytona with a fast Chevrolet Silverado and that should give us the opportunity to finish what we started last year at Talladega.”

With one of the most competitive fields at Daytona in recent years expected this week, Lyons says his team has a plan and will try to execute it accordingly.

“It’s going to be a strong field this week, there’s no hiding behind that,” Lyons said. “We knew there would be. We’ve taken the steps to make sure we’re a little faster by ourselves – since that’s how we will qualify on Friday.

“The draft is so important – but you gotta be in the show first – before you switch that mindset and start focusing on the race. There are two short practices on Thursday and I’m pretty sure we’ll focus on qualifying runs. We might draft too. It’s all up to Bruce (Cook).”

Racing in front of his friends and family is a big deal to the 30-year-old Lyons and with running a split schedule at CFR this season, Lyons knows it’s important to take advantage of every opportunity behind the wheel.

“I feel incredibly blessed to have the chance to race at Daytona,” added Lyons who will attempt to make his 12th career NGOTS start. “Daytona and Homestead are two very important tracks for me – simply because our partners have a presence and I always have a lot of friends and family around.

“That’s what keeps you going. Support. I’ve been through highs and lows in my racing career – but man, what a moment it would be if we were able to bring home the checkered flag on Friday. That would be awesome.”

In 11 career Truck Series races, Lyons has earned a best-finish of 12th at ISM Raceway (Phoenix) in Nov. 2017, while also qualifying a career-best 20th in the same event. In 2018, he finished a season-high 13th at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.

The Premium Game Feed Brand Returns For Multi-Race Partnership

Concord, NC (February 11, 2019) – Spencer Boyd is excited to welcome back a familiar partner in Cargill’s Record Rack® premium game feed brand, as an associate sponsor for the 2019 NASCAR Gander Outdoor Truck Series Season. Sportsman’s Choice® Record Rack® wildlife products are engineered to attract and nourish deer for overall health and antler development.

“I don’t get a lot of time away from the race track, but when I do have a little down time, I always enjoy being out in the woods hunting with my dad,” stated Boyd. “Partnering with Record Rack® last year for my first full time season in NASCAR, was great for so many reasons. I will never forget participating in the ‘Bucks for the Brave’ campaign with several deserving Veterans. Not only does Record Rack® separate themselves from the competition with their products, but they excel in giving back to the community.”

The Sportsman’s Choice® line of products include wildlife feed for deer & elk, turkey & gamebirds and pond & trophy fish. Record Rack® like “Golden Deer Nuggets™” and “Sportsman” products help attract and grow a bigger class of bucks. Whether you’re a wildlife watcher looking to see more deer on your land, or an avid sportsman looking to bring in a trophy, they’ve got the right feed to meet your goals.

Jodi Cornelison, wildlife marketing lead, commented on the extended partnership, “We absolutely love the NASCAR market. There are so many fine folks that are equally passionate about the outdoors as they are about racing. Our goal is to continue to reach outdoor enthusiasts and educate them on the importance of proper wildlife nutrition. We are excited to be partnering with Spencer and his No. 20 team for the 2019 season.”

Record Rack® launches their activation with Spencer Boyd and the Young’s Motorsports No.20 Silverado this Friday at the season opener Daytona International Speedway.
