    M&M’s 200 | Iowa Speedway Race Advance

Team: No. 45 ProMATIC Automation | Superior Essex Chevrolet Silverado

    Driver: Justin Fontaine

    Follow the Team: @NieceMotorsport; @driverfontaine

Fontaine on Racing at Iowa: “It’s been a couple tough races, but I’m eager to get back to some familiar territory this weekend at Iowa,” said Fontaine. “Iowa is a good place to get some of that mojo back. It’s a standalone race, so there’s a lot of attention on us, and I think my Niece Motorsports team is capable of going to Iowa this weekend and getting our third top-10 of 2018.

“We had a lot of speed in our ARCA car last year, we just had some bad luck. I was able to get off the corners pretty well and carry that speed down the straightaways.

“We’ll need to do the same with our truck. Iowa also seems sensitive to weather. We’ll practice and qualify during the day at maximum heat, but we’ll finish under the lights with some cooler conditions. I’ll have to work to make sure we keep fine-tuning our truck to make sure we’re prepared for Stage 3 and the finish.”

Fontaine at Iowa: Fontaine will make his Iowa Speedway debut this Saturday in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series M&M’s 200.

Fontaine has one ARCA Racing Series start at Iowa Speedway, which resulted in a 23rd-place finish in 2017.

In addition, Fontaine has one K&N Pro Series West start at Iowa Speedway, which came in 2016. Fontaine earned a solid 14th-place finish in that race.

Recapping Texas: Although Fontaine and the No. 45 team felt that they had a strong truck for Friday night’s race under the lights at Texas Motor Speedway, an early accident ended the chance to race for a solid finish. Fontaine was credited with a 30th-place result.

“I was totally disappointed,” said Fontaine. “I’m not sure what happened, our No. 45 ProMATIC Automation Chevrolet just took off in the turn. It looks like we blew a right-front tire.

“We’ve hit a snag with a little bit of bad luck the last two races, but I’m confident we’ll rebound and get Niece Motorsports and ProMATIC a strong finish this weekend at Iowa Speedway.”

On the Truck: Fontaine’s No. 45 Chevrolet will carry the ProMATIC Automation, Inc. colors in Friday’s race. ProMATIC Automation, Inc. specializes in the design and build of custom factory automation equipment.

ProMATIC Automation, Inc. has extensive experience in the integration of high-level automation technologies like robotics, laser, vision, and dispensing systems along with many years of combined experience in the design and machining of custom manufactured components.

  • JJL Motorsports and Jesse Little focused on another strong performance at Iowa Speedway

JJL Motorsports and Jesse Little focused on another strong performance at Iowa Speedway

NEWTON, Iowa – Excited to return to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) scene, JJL Motorsports heads to Iowa Speedway this weekend confident about contending for a win in Saturday night’s M&M’s 200 presented by Casey’s General Store.

Jesse Little will make his fourth start of the season and eyes his third top-10 of the year at Iowa. In the team’s previous race at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway, Little’s truck jumped out of gear with two laps to go dropping him from inside the top-10 to 16th when the checkered flag waved.

“I can’t say enough about Matt (Noyce, crew chief) and this JJL Motorsports team,” said Little. “We had a good truck at Charlotte.

Qualifying was rained out, so we started 24th – but we went to the front and just had a mishap there at the end when the truck jumped out of gear.

Throughout his racing career, Iowa Speedway has been good to the NASCAR Next alumnus. He has nine career NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (NKNPSE) starts at the 0.875-mile oval, which includes a pole and a race win in 2015.

Overall, Little has produced three top-five and six top-10 runs since 2012.

He also scored his first career top-10 run in a truck last June, finishing ninth.

“Iowa is just a cool place,” added Little. “It’s a track where you need to have speed and finesse. Drivers in racing will say that they have tracks that fit their driving style and I think it’s fair to say that Iowa is one of those places for me.

“Iowa is the start of two back-to-back races for our JJL Motorsports team as we’ll be competing at Gateway next weekend too. We’d like to use the same truck in both races, so we’ll be cautiously aggressive on Saturday night. We know that we have the right ingredients to contend for the win, we just need to connect the dots and see what happens.”
In addition to Ford Performance and PFC, JJL Motorsports has added Rustic Rub as an associate marketing partner for the ninth race of the season. Already announced to join the team as the primary partner at Gateway, CEO Jim Grindstaff decided he wanted to be a part of the doubleheader.

Founded in 2016 by U.S. Air Force veteran and restaurant entrepreneur Grindstaff, Rustic Rub Co. started as a BBQ rub company initially releasing All Purpose and Three Kings rubs, however, the company’s success has evolved into a brand and lifestyle since releasing their own version of a Bloody Mary mix.

“I can’t thank Jim and everyone at Rustic Rub Co. for their support these next two weeks,” added Little. “It really means a lot to us as a team. He’s successfully built his company from the ground up, just like we’ve done and together we’re hoping to produce some big results over the next two weekends.”

To spotlight their incredible success this season, FOX Sports 1 recently visited the team’s shop where analyst Jeff Hammond who served as crew chief for Little’s father, Chad Little during his Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series campaign from 1998-2000 talked to Jesse Little, Chad Little and Noyce about their growth and outlook. The behind-the-scenes feature will run prior to the Gateway (Ill.) Motorsports Park race on June 23.

“The feature was pretty cool,” added Jesse Little. “I appreciate everyone working so hard to make it happen and for Jeff and my dad bringing back a lot of cool memories. I think everyone will be intrigued with our story and I can’t wait to see the final product.”

The M&M’s 200 presented by Casey’s General Store (200 laps | 175 miles) is the ninth of 23 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races on the 2018 schedule. Practice begins on Sat., June 16 from 8:35 a.m. – 9:25 a.m. A final practice session is set for 10:05 a.m. – 10:55 p.m. Qualifying is set for later in the day beginning at 3:30 p.m. The 32-truck field will take the green flag shortly after 6:00 p.m. with live coverage on FOX Sports 1, the Motor Racing Network (Radio) and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Satellite Radio, Channel 90). All times are local (Central).

  • Four Takeaways from the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Event at Texas

Four Takeaways from the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Event at Texas

Texas Motor Speedway was the host for the eighth race of the 2018 season for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. While there were some notables that placed in the top 10, there were also some of the same familiar faces at the top.

Here are this week’s four takeaways from the PPG 400.

    1. Johnny Sauter Continues To Dominate – There’s no stopping the four-time winner, Johnny Sauter, this season. He now has four wins, seven top fives and seven top 10 finishes. While he did not dominate as he did in previous races, Sauter still found a way to work his way up to the front and win at Texas for his fifth win at the track. If this was in November, he would have had already clinched his spot in the championship 4 as he did last November. However, it wouldn’t be surprising if Sauter does collect another win at Texas later in the year. He’s currently on track to becoming a three-time champion.
    2. Tyler Young Shines In The Top 10 – Young had a great, but quiet Friday night at Texas Motor Speedway. While he didn’t finish inside the top 10 at all in either stage, he rallied toward the front to finish seventh at the end of the night. This was a strong finish, almost a win, for the underdog Young Motorsports team. It was his first top 10 finish of the year and his sixth of his career. A decent showing by the No. 20 of Young Motorsports.
    3. Todd Gilliland Is The Highest Kyle Busch Motorsports Driver – Having no previous race experiences at Texas Motor Speedway, Gilliland scored a sixth-place and was the highest KBM driver in the final results. Not bad for the recent high school graduate, who will now be able to compete on a full-time schedule for the rest of the year. It will be interesting to see how he does and it wouldn’t be surprising if he collects a couple of wins before the season is all said and done. Spencer Davis finished ninth while  Noah Gragson claimed 10th and rounded out the Kyle Busch Motorsports trio.
    4. Cody Coughlin Has A Solid Top 10 Night – Coughlin continues to quietly finish inside the top 10 this season. He finished fifth in the first stage but fell outside the top 10 due to falling a lap down. With a late caution, Coughlin and his No. 2 JEGS Chevy made adjustments and he worked his way back into the top 10 late in the race. At the end of the day, he found himself in the seventh position in the final rundown for his fourth top 10 of the year.

GMS Racing teammate Johnny Sauter also used this same chassis in five races in 2017, collecting one win and four top-five finishes.
    – After rallying to an eighth-place finish last weekend at Texas, Coughlin remains 11th in the NCWTS driver point standings.

    Quote
“Iowa (Speedway) is its own unique place. Being a short track, you need to have drive off the corner. Last year I struggled there a bit, but I know when we go back this time we’ll have a better run. GMS Racing has been working hard on their short track program and I know that we’ll have a good grasp on the track as soon as we unload.”

    JOHNNY SAUTER
No. 21 ISM Connect Chevrolet Silverado

    Iowa Stats
    11 starts, 7 top-fives, 8 top-10s

    2018 Season Stats
    8 starts, 4 wins, 7 top-fives, 7 top-10s

    Additional Info
    – Sauter will pilot GMS chassis no. 313, a brand new chassis for the No. 21 team.
    – With his win at Texas Motor Speedway, Sauter matched his career-best total for wins in a single season with four.
    – Sauter is now one win behind Todd Bodine (5th, 22 wins) on the NCWTS all-time wins list.
    – The Necedah, Wis., native has built up a 77-point lead in the NCWTS driver point standings.

    Quotes
“I would say Iowa compares favorably to Richmond. You know, Richmond was one of my all-time favorites and obviously we don’t race there anymore, so Iowa is the next best thing. Iowa has really widened out. I found myself last year moving up and running a truck-width off the wall and it felt like they put four brand new tires on my truck. I didn’t figure it out. I had to have one of those young guns coming behind telling me where they were running and I obviously moved up there and saw the difference.

That track has a lot of character and a lot of age, and grip is a premium there. It’s hard to go to a place you’ve been racing for years and find that you have to rethink the way you run it. A lot of times you’ll hear you’re racing against rookies who don’t have any experience, but most times it’s the preconceived notions that veterans will have that gets them in trouble. You’ve got to be open-minded and stay on your toes or you’ll never progress. I think that’s something we’ve done well. I’ve just stayed open-minded, taken in the feedback from the other GMS teams and what we’ve seen at track and that’s certainly helped us get to a place where we can find success week in and week out.”

    JUSTIN HALEY
No. 24 Fraternal Order of Eagles Chevrolet Silverado

    Iowa Stats
    1 start, 1 top-10 finish

    Season Stats
    8 starts, 3 top-fives, 5 top-10 finishes

    Additional Info
    – Haley will climb behind the wheel of chassis no. 302 this weekend, a chassis that the No. 24 team has run five times between the 2017 and 2018 NCWTS seasons. It was last utilized at Dover earlier this year, where Haley qualified fourth and finished third
-Aside from his one previous NCWTS start at the half-mile track, Haley has raced there four other times in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, finishing in the fourth position three consecutive times.
-Haley will be running double duty this weekend at Iowa, first in Saturday’s NCWTS race and then on Sunday when he makes his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut running the No. 23 Fraternal Order of Eagles Chevrolet Camaro. He will pilot chassis no. 215 that has been used two previous times in 2018 by the No. 23 team, at ISM Raceway and Richmond Raceway.
    – After his third-place finish in Texas, Haley is eighth in the NCWTS driver point standings, 34 points above The Playoff cut line.

    Quote
    On racing at Iowa Speedway:
“With these new engines we run, I think the racing has been crazy because the engines don’t have the RPMs to run on the bottom late in the run, so we all shift up top to keep momentum. Goodyear usually brings a tire where the left side doesn’t wear but the right sides do. At Kansas, we were ripping along the top, and I think we will see the same thing this weekend in Iowa. Iowa runs like a mile-and-a half track it’s just shrunk down and has a really abrasive surface. We were fast there last year and it was always a good track for me in the K&N Series. We’ll have a big group of supporters in Iowa as well with the Fraternal Order of Eagles, so hopefully we can put on another good show for them.”

On making his Xfinity Series debut:
“This is an opportunity of a lifetime to be intop notch Xfinity Series equipment,” said Haley. “I can’t say enough about how much the Gallagher family has helped my career over the past few years in the Truck Series. I’m excited to get to Iowa and run a double header with The Fraternal Order of Eagles (FOE) onboard. FOE, along with my family, have been nothing but supportive of me since the beginning. I am humbled to have the support to take the next step into the Xfinity Series, after always being unsure if it would ever happen. Thank you to the whole GMS organization.”

    DALTON SARGEANT
No. 25 Performance Plus Motor Oil Chevrolet Silverado

    Iowa Stats
This will be Sargeant’s first NCWTS start at Iowa Speedway.

    2018 Season Stats
    8 starts, 2 top-10s, 7 top-15s

    Additional Info
    – Sargeant will pilot GMS chassis no. 308 at Iowa Speedway. This chassis was raced to a sixth-place finish at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March and was piloted by Sargeant at the Iowa Speedway rookie test in April.
    – Though Sargeant is making his Iowa NCWTS debut this weekend, he has previous starts in the K&N Pro Series East (2 starts, 1 top-10) and the ARCA Racing Series (2 starts, 1 win, 2 top-fives). In last year’s ARCA Racing Series event at Iowa, he led 41 laps en route to his second win of the 2017 season.
    – After an impressive Texas Motor Speedway debut that saw Sargeant drive from last to 11th following a tough qualifying outing, the 20-year-old is ninth in NCWTS driver point standings and currently leads the Sunoco Rookie of the Year standings.

    Quote
“I love Iowa. It’s definitely one of my favorite race tracks that we’ll go to and it produces some really good short track racing. I have a win there in ARCA in the past, so I feel like that’ll be one of our strong suits. There’s a lot that can be transferred over from the car to the truck just as far as knowing what to expect from the track, but with that there’s going to be quite a difference between the two. How they drive, the setups and still working through the learning process of a new team and what we’ve been doing so far this season will for sure come into play. But there’s a confidence that comes with knowing you’ve run well at a track and I hope that brings some peace of mind as we go back to a track that I really enjoy.”

  • NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Power Rankings-Texas 1

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Power Rankings-Texas 1

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series was in the heat of the heartland this past Friday night at Texas Motor Speedway. There were definitely some thrills and spills, but some guy named Johnny Sauter who has been victorious multiple times this season topped this week’s power rankings.

    1. Johnny Sauter – Same song, second verse for the 2016 Truck Series champion. Sauter started fifth in Friday nights PPG 400. While he wasn’t all that dominant as he was in past races, he still found a way to make it to the top. In Stages 1 and 2, Sauter finished fourth and ninth respectively. However, after some late race cautions for incidents, Sauter found himself challenging for the win. It wasn’t until Lap 117, where he ultimately took the lead and led for the final 51 laps. It’s hard to stop Sauter and the GMS Racing No. 21 team at the moment as this was their fourth win of the season. They’ll be hard to beat when the trucks go to Iowa this week. Previous Ranking: 1st
    2. Stewart Friesen – Friesen and the No. 52 Halmar Racing team continues to shine this year in the 2018 Truck Series season. The Ontario, Canada driver started on the pole for Friday night’s race. It was just the second pole of his career, his first since Eldora of last year, and his first of the year. After slipping up on the start of the race, Friesen rallied back to the lead on Lap 30 and on Lap 34, where he held on to win the first stage. He was a mainstay in the top three as well for the second stage, as he finished second. Friesen gave all he could challenging Johnny Sauter for the win. However, he came up just .092 seconds short of the win. Previous Ranking: 4th
    3. Justin Haley – Haley and the No. 24 team continues to creep up into the top five finishing position week after week. He started 10th and finished eighth and third, respectively, in both stages. He even led just for a short period of time (three laps in total), before ultimately finishing third. It was Haley’s third top five of the season. Previous Ranking: Not Ranked
    4. Grant Enfinger – Enfinger scored another top five for the 2018 season. After starting in the eighth position, his No. 98 team fell outside the top 10 for Stages 1 and 2. When multiple cautions fell late in the race, Enfinger was able to capitalize and bring home his Protect The Harvest Ford in the fourth position to earn his third top five of the season. A solid effort by the Fairhope, Alabama driver. Previous Ranking: Not Ranked
    5. Matt Crafton – The No. 88 team gets an A for effort in this week’s power rankings. The Menards Ford driver has been having an up and down year so far. Prior to the Texas race, Crafton only had two top five’s and four top 10 finishes coming into the race. He started ninth and was able to power his way up to the second position in the first stage. Late in the run, his Ford F-150 got too tight in order to battle for the win. Despite the tightness of his truck, Crafton brought it home in the fifth position for his third top five of the year. However, he still remains winless in the 2018 season. Previous Ranking: Not Ranked

(June 11, 2018) – GMS Racing’s No. 24 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) driver, Justin Haley will make his NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) debut in the No. 23 entry at Iowa Speedway. The Indiana-native will run at Daytona International Speedway (July 6) in a second GMS Racing entry and will additionally run at Watkins Glen International (August 4).

“This is an opportunity of a lifetime to be in top notch Xfinity Series equipment,” said Haley. • Sauter takes fifth win at Texas, fourth win of 2018

Sauter takes fifth win at Texas, fourth win of 2018

Although he didn’t lead until Lap 117, Johnny Sauter still managed to gain his fourth victory of 2018, taking the win over polesitter Stewart Friesen by 0.092 seconds in the PPG 400. The margin of victory was the closest in Truck Series history at Texas Motor Speedway, besting the June 2006 event which had a margin of victory of 0.116 seconds.

Sauter’s victory came with a bit of a scare, as he ran out of fuel going into Turn 3 on the white flag lap. But as he hit the banking the engine managed to fire back up before sputtering coming to the finish line. Sauter blocked Friesen adequately enough to grab the checkered flag.

Friesen and rookie Todd Gilliland led the field to the green flag, with third-place qualifier Noah Gragson taking the lead on Lap 2. Caution soon came out on Lap 8 when the No. 45 of Justin Fontaine bounced off the fourth turn wall. The caution came out again on Lap 13 when the No. 83 of Bayley Currey snapped loose in Turn 3, hitting the wall with his right rear quarter panel. The third caution came when the 16 of Brett Moffitt, who was within reach of the points lead coming into Texas, crashed going into the second turn on Lap 29. Moffitt’s Toyota would finish 18th, keeping him third in points, 95 out of the lead.

Gilliland would go on to lead the most laps overall on the night (62), while Friesen and the No. 98 of Grant Enfinger won the first two stages, respectively. Sauter’s GMS Racing teammate Justin Hayley finished third while Enfinger finished fourth and Matt Crafton finished fifth. Gilliland would finish sixth while Tyler Young took seventh, Cody Coughlin finished eighth, Spencer Davis took home ninth, and Noah Gragson finished the top-10.

The win was especially emotional for Sauter’s Crew Chief Joe Shear, who lost his wife in December.

“Every time we come to Texas, it’s a big race,” said Shear. “My wife and her family were from Dallas, so this is always a big race for us. She was always such a supporter, so this win is big for me.”

Sauter joins Kyle Busch and Mike Skinner as the only Truck Series drivers to win four or more races in the first eight races of the season. When asked about being a lock for Homestead-Miami at the season’s finale, Sauter was blunt on his stance.

“We’d be crazy to think we’re a lock for anything,” said the 2016 Truck Series champion. “Anything can happen.”

The next race is June 16 at Iowa.

Self on Racing at Texas: “I always enjoy coming back to Texas,” said Self. “It’s my hometown track, so there’s always pressure to perform. It’s pressure that I don’t mind though. There’s a lot of people who have sacrificed a lot to give me a chance to race and competing at Texas is one of those opportunities to show them how grateful I am.

“It’s going to be hot all week in Texas. It’s going to be hot during practice on Thursday and it looks to be even hotter on Friday during qualifying and the race. We’re just going to have to let it play out and see what happens. We’re going to give it our all, I promise you that.”

Self at Texas: Self will make his fifth NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start this Friday night at Texas Motor Speedway. In his previous four starts, the Austin, Texas native has earned three top-15 finishes, with his best finish of 12th coming in this race last season. Additionally, Self has never finished lower than 22nd.

Recapping Charlotte: In the most recent NCWTS race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Self and the No. 22 team were forced to a backup truck, due to contact with the wall after a tire went down.

Self and the entire GO TEXAN team worked hard to prepare a strong backup truck. The team made strong gains during the race, but ultimately an on-track incident relegated the No. 22 to a 27th-place finish.

“That was not what we had in mind when we showed up to Charlotte,” said Self. “Our day started off on the wrong foot when we had a tire go down and destroy our primary truck. It put us to the test as we had to bring out the backup.

“Honestly, we had a good truck the entire night and I think we had a shot at a top-10 with the backup. It’s unfortunate that hard racing and aero ended our night.”

On The Truck: The Texas Department of Agriculture’s Go Texan program and AM Technical Solutions will support Self.

GO TEXAN represents Texas agri-business on state, national and international levels by building recognition with the GO TEXAN mark.

Along with its signature mark in the shape of Texas, GO TEXAN celebrates, promotes and supports the business savvy and plainspoken grit Texas agriculture is known throughout the world.

“I’ve never been there, but I’ve done a lot of studying. From watching video, talking to others, and even examining photos. I’m doing everything I can to be at the top of my game this week.

“Other than Charlotte, I feel like the mile-and-a-half tracks have been pretty kind to us. We’ve shown strength and speed on them. Reviewing the video from last year, it appeared that the draft was key at Texas and that reminds me of Las Vegas. If that’s the case, that should be good news for our ProMATIC team on Friday night.”

Fontaine at Texas: Fontaine will make his Texas Motor Speedway debut this Friday night in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Rattlesnake 400.

Recapping Charlotte: With qualifying cancelled due to rain, Fontaine lined up 18th in his first NCWTS start at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The rookie of the year contender was happy with his truck early, but an accident in the third and final stage of the race left the team with a 30th-place result.

“This wasn’t the debut I was hoping for at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Darrell [Morrow, crew chief] did a good job adjusting on the truck during the first and second stages – but we found ourselves in some trouble during the final stage and it really put a hamper on our night.”
