I’ve been traveling with the team and learning every weekend. We have such a strong team assembled at DGR-Crosley and everyone is working hard to improve every day – I think you can see that in our results from the last few races. I know the guys will unload a fast truck for me from the get-go and we’ll have time to work on the balance in practice. • Four Takeaways From The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Race At Dover

Four Takeaways From The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Race At Dover

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series competed in their fifth race of the 2018 season at Dover International Speedway. Here are four takeaways from the JEGS 200 event on Friday.

    1. Johnny Sauter Continues Series Domination – Sauter got his second win of the 2018 season this past Friday. It was his first win since the season-opening race at Daytona. Since then, he has finished third at Atlanta, second at Las Vegas and only finished outside the top 10 once at Martinsville, finishing 19th. Friday’s victory was the 19th of his career. He’ll look to get his first victory at Kansas Speedway since 2010, eight years ago.
    2. Harrison Burton and Todd Gilliland Score Top Five/Ten Finishes – Burton and Gilliland who drive for Kyle Busch Motorsports earned a fifth and 10th place finish, respectively at Dover. Burton came from the back after starting 17th and finished seventh in Stage 1, while ultimately finishing in the top five. Todd, on the other hand, finished second in the first stage and eighth in the second, before finishing 10th.
    3. Justin Haley Earns Third Place Finish – Haley earned his second top five of the 2018 season after finishing third. He started in the fourth position and finished third in Stage 1, with a second-place finish in Stage 2. As the JEGS 200 came to a close, the scoring pylon showed the No. 24 FOE Chevy third. A nice Dover outing for the GMS Racing team.
    4. Close Battle For The Win Ends Under Caution – Sauter and Noah Gragson battled it out all the way to the end until the last corner with two laps to go. Both of them swapped the lead from lap 124 to lap 210. While it looked like Gragson could score his second career win, he would, unfortunately, get loose and end up finishing 20th due to a spin. Gragson and the No. 18 Tundra will look to rebound this week at Kansas Speedway and get his second career victory.

Fontaine’s No. 45 ProMATIC Automation Chevrolet will carry his mother’s name, Debra Fontaine, in the same location.

“Obviously I wouldn’t be where I am today without the love and support of my mom,” said Fontaine. “It’s really special to me to be able to honor her. I hope that she is excited to be riding along with me this weekend at Kansas Speedway. Moms are always proud of their children, but I’m hoping we can have a strong run on Friday and make her even more proud.”

The NCWTS will take the green flag for the 37 Kind Days 250 from Kansas Speedway on Friday, May 11 at 8:30 p.m. ET, live on Fox Sports 1, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90.

  • NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Power Rankings-Dover

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Power Rankings-Dover

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series returned to action this past weekend at Dover International Speedway after a five week hiatus.

Here’s a look at this week’s power rankings.

    1. Johnny Sauter- It should be no surprise that Sauter is back on top of the power rankings after winning the race at Dover. After starting second, he stayed in the top ten for the first stage by finishing fourth while he ended up winning the second stage. Late in the race, Noah Gragson and Sauter battled and swapped the lead multiple times until the last lap, where Gragson got loose underneath the 21 of Sauter with just two laps to go and ended up in the turn 3 wall. Sauter was able to hang on to his vehicle and end up winning the race under caution. It was his 19th career victory after leading 137 laps.
    Previous Ranking: Not Ranked

    2. Noah Gragson- It’s safe to say that it would have been a fun battle for the win and it could have came down to a last lap pass. However, Gragson was apart of the incident with two to go and ended up wrecking out. Not all was lost for the No. 18 camp, as Gragson would win Stage 1 and finish fourth in Stage 2. Nonetheless, Gragson gets an A for effort at Dover.

    Previous Ranking: Honorable Mention

    3. Matt Crafton- Crafton finished second in Friday’s night race at Dover after starting tenth. It was a decent result for the No. 88 Menards Ford F-150 as in the two previous races, Crafton finished 15th at Martinsville and had brakes issues at Las Vegas resulting in a 29th place finish. It was his first top five since February at Atlanta. He finished seventh and third, respectively in both stages. A solid day for Crafton who needed a good run. This could be the finish that may help him set off runs inside the top five and eventually lead to a win.

    Previous Ranking: Not Ranked

    4. Cody Coughlin- Coughlin had a great day at Dover. Despite having a so and so season with finishes of 17th at Daytona, 20th at Atlanta, eighth at Las Vegas and 26th at Martinsville, it was a much needed for the No. 2 JEGS Chevy. He had to work his way up, however, from the 18th starting position. While he did not finish inside the top ten in either stage, Coughlin worked hard and finished sixth. It was second top ten finish of the 2018 season.

    Previous Ranking: Not Ranked

    5. David Gilliland- The No. 54 Frontline Enterprises/Crosley Brands continues to post decent finishes in the truck series this season. While having finishes of 30th at Daytona and 17th at Atlanta. The No. 54 team posted an 11th place at Vegas, and a close win at Martinsville. Gilliland posted a top five finish of fourth after finishing eighth and ninth in both stages.

    Honorable Mentions
    1. Joe Nemechek- While splitting the ride with his son John Hunter this season, Joe was able to bring home the No. 8 Chevy for an eighth place finish.
    2. Jesse Little- Little was back for his second ever start in the 2018 season. After finishing eighth in Atlanta in his first start of the season, he was able to back it up with another top ten finish.
    3. Myatt Snider- Snider finished eleventh in Friday’s race at Dover. It was third finish outside the top ten and Snider’s first since Las Vegas, where he finished 15th.

    Quotes
“I’m really happy with how well we’ve performed to start this season. GMS Racing as a whole has been strong and the work that is being done by GMS Fabrication is incredible. I think that’s evident when you see several of our trucks running up front, in the top-10 each week. That’s not an easy thing to do for a large organization, to have several teams that can compete for a win. I think that shows just how dedicated Randy (Usher, General Manager) and Mike (Beam, President), and all of those guys back at the shop are to what we do each week.”

    – After a third-place finish in Dover, Haley jumped to seventh in the NCWTS driver point standings, four points above the Playoff cut-off line.

    Quote
“I’ve always loved racing at Kansas (Speedway). Last year it was my first ever one-and-a-half-mile track I had run on. We ran well even though I was on the cautious side due to all the principles of air while racing. I got a chance to run an ARCA race there at the end of 2017 and ran well again. Coming back after an entire year of learning will make us so much better. Kansas always provides great racing and many grooves late in the race. Our No. 24 Fraternal Order of Eagles team has really grown strong over the past few weeks and the momentum heading into this weekend will be big.”

    – Following a 13th-place showing in his first NCWTS start at Dover, Sargeant is 9th in the NCWTS standings leading into Kansas.

    Quote
“Kansas should be fun. I’ve raced there before in the ARCA Racing Series, so I’ve got a little experience at that racetrack. I think we should be pretty good there. It’s nice having such a large group of guys at GMS Racing to bounce some information back and forth off of. Other guys can test certain things that maybe we aren’t able to get to in practice, so that’s something that’s really helpful when we go to these mile-and-a-half tracks.”

NASCAR and Camping World Expand Partnership To Provide Gander Outdoors Entitlement Position

Gander Outdoors Naming Rights of Truck Series to Begin in 2019, Series to be Rebranded NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (May 8, 2018) – NASCAR® and Camping World have expanded their agreement to provide Gander Outdoors naming rights to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Beginning in 2019, the national series will be rebranded as the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series.

Camping World originally became title sponsor of the Truck Series in 2009. In 2014, NASCAR and Camping World signed a landmark seven-year agreement, continuing the partnership through 2022. This newly expanded agreement provides official NASCAR status and naming rights to Camping World’s partner brand, Gander Outdoors. The remaining years on the deal are still intact.

“Gander Outdoors’ customer base has an affinity to the outdoor lifestyle and will transition seamlessly as the title sponsor of our national series in 2019,” said Steve Phelps, NASCAR Chief Operating Officer. “The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series has a consistent and dedicated fan base that will embrace the Gander Outdoors brand. This expanded agreement demonstrates our partners’ confidence in the on-track product and the power of our brand loyal fan base.”

Gander Outdoors, formerly known as Gander Mountain, was purchased and rebranded by Marcus Lemonis, Chairman of Camping World, in May 2017. Earlier this year, Gander Outdoors announced its title sponsorship of two races at Pocono Raceway; the Gander Outdoors 150 (NASCAR Camping World Truck Series) on July 28 and the Gander Outdoors 400 (Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series) on July 29.

“Nearly a decade ago we felt strongly our entitlement sponsorship would dramatically increase Camping World’s customer base and it’s delivered,” said Marcus Lemonis, Chairman of Camping World. “We expect the passionate fans of NASCAR will embrace Gander Outdoors the same way they supported Camping World and we couldn’t be more excited about the future of the series.”

Additionally, as part of the newly expanded agreement, Camping World partner brands Overton’s and The House Outdoor Gear will also receive official NASCAR status. The newly signed agreement includes rights to activate across all retail locations nationwide.

  • Sauter Defends Dover Title and Wins the ‘JEGS 200’

Sauter Defends Dover Title and Wins the ‘JEGS 200’

Johnny Sauter marked his 40th birthday earlier this month and celebrated in style at Dover International Speedway on Friday with a victory in the “JEGS 200” NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race.

Sauter is only the second driver to win multiple NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races at Dover (Kyle Busch has four wins) and is the first to have back-to-back wins since Busch accomplished the feat in 2013-14.

“I couldn’t be more proud to win this race the way we did,” Sauter said. “When you tame this place, you’ve really done something.”

Sauter’s victory came in the longest NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race in Dover history – 210 laps – and included a green-white-checkered finish.

The overtime laps followed one of the most thrilling duels of this NASCAR season between Sauter and pole-winner Noah Gragson, who grabbed the lead following a restart on lap 188 and held off several Sauter charges.

Gragson blocked one Sauter attempt exiting Turn 2, causing Sauter to scrape the wall. Several laps later, Sauter tried again on the outside. With Sauter’s truck partially clear, Gragson made contact with Sauter entering Turn 3, causing the 19-year-old to spin out.

“We were going wreckers or checkers,” said Gragson, who finished 20th and led 60 laps. “Today, we were wreckers.”

Sauter praised Gragson for visiting him in Victory Lane and predicted he would have more battles with the young driver in the future.

“He’s obviously going to be a guy we will race against for the championship,” Sauter said. “You’ve got to get to the finish of these races.”

The crash on Lap 199 led to a long caution period before the green-white-checkered finale. On the final restart, Sauter pulled away from Matt Crafton to notch his 19th career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victory.

“It’s not every day you get a truck like that,” said Sauter, who led 137 laps in the GMS Racing No. 21 Chevrolet. “When you have a truck as fast as ours, you have to find a way to win the race.”

Crafton finished second, more than half a second behind Sauter. Justin Haley was third, followed by David Gilliland and 17-year-old Harrison Burton. Gilliland’s 17-year-old son Todd was 10th, one lap down.

“Noah and Johnny were putting on a good show,” Crafton said. “We just didn’t have any short-run speed. I tried everything I could [at the end]. All in all, not a bad day.”

Sauter averaged 98.386 mph in the race which lasted 2:08:04. Seven caution flags flew taking up 46 laps as Sauter increased his lead in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series point standings to 51 points over Ben Rhodes, who finished eighth.

“This is such a cool place to race at,” Sauter said. “I turned 40 this week. I just want everyone to know how much I appreciate it.”
