  • CHASE ELLIOTT TABBED TO PILOT SPIRE MOTORSPORTS’ NO. 7 CHEVY SILVERADO AT BRISTOL MOTOR SPEEDWAY

CHASE ELLIOTT TABBED TO PILOT SPIRE MOTORSPORTS’ NO. 7 CHEVY SILVERADO AT BRISTOL MOTOR SPEEDWAY

CONCORD, N.C. (April 12, 2022) – Spire Motorsports announced today 2020 NASCAR Cup Series (NCS) Champion Chase Elliott will pilot the team’s No. 7 Chevrolet Silverado in Saturday night’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) Pinty’s Truck Race on Dirt at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Elliott, a 13-time winner in NASCAR’s premier series, has made 16 NCWTS starts over his career, scoring victories at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (2013), Martinsville Speedway (2017) and Charlotte Motor Speedway (2020). All totaled, the Dawsonville, Ga., native has led 412 laps, logged three poles, three wins, 11 top-five and 13 top-10 finishes in Truck Series competition.

The Pinty’s Truck Race on Dirt will mark Elliott’s first NCWTS start of 2022. His most recent came last June at Texas Motor Speedway where he started 22nd, led 45 laps and brought home a runner-up finish.

HendrickCars.com will serve as the effort’s primary sponsor while NAPA AUTO PARTS, Elliott’s NCS majority partner, will be prominently displayed as an associate sponsor on the machine’s decklid and lower-rear quarter panels.

The event will mark the second consecutive season NASCAR and Bristol Motor Speedway have collaborated to transform the legendary half-mile Tennessee oval from pavement to dirt, creating one of the most talked about racing experiences on the 2022 calendar for the drivers, teams and fans.

“Driving the No. 7 Chevy Silverado at Bristol this weekend is definitely something I’m looking forward to,” said Elliott. “These trucks always look like a lot of fun to race on dirt, and this team has had some great runs this year and put together a solid program in a short amount of time. I’m excited to see what we can go out there and do on Saturday night.”

Elliott, 26, is the full-time driver of the No. 9 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Hendrick Motorsports in the NCS and an eight-year veteran of NASCAR’s premier series with 229 starts on his résumé.

In eight NCS races this season, Elliott has notched one pole, one top five, five top 10s and currently leads the NCS championship points. Despite being a veteran of 229 NCS starts, Saturday’s 150-lap NCWTS showcase will mark just his 17th race at the controls of a Truck Series entry.

“The opportunity to have a talent the caliber of Chase Elliott, a NASCAR Cup Series champion, drive for Spire Motorsports at Bristol Motor Speedway, is an incredible opportunity for our NASCAR Camping World Truck Series team,” explained Spire Motorsports co-owner Jeff Dickerson. “Chase is a generational talent and someone who can win anytime he gets behind the wheel of a race car. He’s won at every level of the sport and we’re exceptionally fortunate and appreciative that he’s agreed to drive our truck.”

Elliott’s Hendrick Motorsports’ teammate William Byron handled the driving chores for Spire Motorsports in last Thursday’s Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 200 at Martinsville Speedway. After starting deep in the field, Byron made a steady climb up the leaderboard throughout the evening and earned a dominating victory. The win was the first NCWTS win for Spire Motorsports in just its third race in the division.

The Pinty’s Truck Race on Dirt from Bristol Motor Speedway will be televised live on FS1 Saturday, April 16 beginning at 8 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The race will be broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90.

Chandler Smith – No. 18 Charge Me Tundra TRD Pro Camping World Trucks Bristol Dirt Preview

Chandler Smith: Driver, No. 18 Charge Me Toyota

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Overview:
Event: Pinty’s Truck Race on Dirt, Race 6 of 23, 150 Laps –40/50/60; 75 Miles
Location: Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway (half-mile dirt oval)
    Date/Broadcast: April 16, 2022, at 8 p.m. ET on FS1, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR 90

    Mr. Smith Goes Dirt Racing:
Chandler Smith will debut a brand new primary sponsor, Charge Me, for the Pinty’s Truck Race on Dirt at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday. Charge Me was founded on the principle that the electric vehicle (EV) revolution will require robust infrastructure support at all levels. To encourage this transition towards a clean energy future, Charge Me is launching a diverse product range of EV charging solutions. Charge Me has developed off-grid multi-use portable charging systems for both EV roadside assistance as well as stationary on-site power generation. In addition to Saturday’s race at Bristol, Charge Me will adorn Smith’s No. 18 TRD Pro for four more races: Kansas Speedway in Kansas City (May 14), Knoxville (Iowa) Raceway (June 18), Pocono (Pa.) Raceway (July 23) and Richmond (Va.) Raceway (Aug. 13).

Smith has had a strong start to 2022, finishing inside the top 10 in each of the last four events including his victory earlier in the year at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway. The 19-year-old driver sits second in the regular season point standings, just four tallies behind reigning series champion Ben Rhodes. Through the first five events of the season Smith leads Truck Series regulars in average starting position (4.6), average running position (7.142) and average finish (7.4) while ranking second in driver rating (107.5).

The Toyota Racing Development product had mixed results in two starts on dirt last season. At Bristol, he drove from 21st to 11th early in the race, but after multiple incidents was relegated to a 34th-place finish. At Knoxville, Smith was out front for 72 laps late in the race, but as a demolition derby broke out in the closing laps and into overtime, he was unable to hold off Austin Hill and finished second.

KBM has won three of the nine events that the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series has held at dirt tracks. Bubba Wallace (2014) and Christopher Bell (2015) were victorious at famed Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, while Martin Truex Jr. was triumphant in last year’s inaugural race on the dirt at Bristol.

The Tundra TRD Pro that Smith will get behind the wheel of on Saturday, KBM-52, is the same chassis that he picked up his first career Truck Series victory with on the concrete at Bristol last September.

The Georgia driver earned NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Rookie of the Year honors in 2021 and finished eighth in the championship standings after producing two victories, one pole, 213 laps led, six top-five and nine top-10 finishes in his first full-time season. He earned his first career Truck Series victory at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway in September and in the series finale at Phoenix (Ariz.) Raceway earned his first career pole and swept all three stages en route to his second victory.

Veteran crew chief Danny Stockman will once again call the shots for Smith and the No. 18 team in 2022. Stockman’s drivers have produced six victories at KBM across his first two seasons, including two with Smith behind the wheel in 2021. The veteran crew chief captured a Truck Series championship with Austin Dillon in 2011 and also won an Xfinity Series championship with Dillon in 2013. Stockman’s drivers have collected two top-five finishes racing on dirt tracks in the Truck Series, with his best result Smith’s runner-up finish at Knoxville last year.

Safelite, the nation’s largest provider of vehicle glass repair, replacement and recalibration services will serve as an associate sponsor on the bedtop of Smith’s Toyota this week and for 16 races as a primary sponsor throughout the 2022 season.

    Chandler Smith, Driver Q&A:

Are you looking forward to going back race on dirt at Bristol?
“We had a lot of speed at the Bristol dirt race last year but got taken out early on and didn’t get to showcase what we were made of. This is going to be the first race for Charge Me being the primary sponsor of the truck. It’s going to be really exciting for them to be on my truck for Bristol dirt as it’s a good track for myself.”
What’s been the key to having four straight top-10 finishes?
“It’s being consistent and staying out of trouble. Danny (Stockman, crew chief) and everybody at KBM has been bringing me really fast Tundras every single weekend to work with. It’s just a matter of being at the right place at the right time and staying out of trouble.”

Are you excited to have Charge Me as a new primary sponsor this week?
“We have a few races lined up with them this year – it’s really exciting. They are a really great company and have a lot of good things coming as a company and getting involved in the NASCAR world. I’m really excited to be a little part of their journey.”

    Chandler Smith Career Highlights:

Raceway earned his first career pole and swept all three stages en route to his second victory.

Chandler Smith’s No. 18 Charge Me Tundra:

KBM-52: The No. 18 Charge Me team will unload KBM-52 for Saturday’s race at the Bristol Dirt Track. With his victory at Atlanta Motor Speedway Corey Heim became the 18th different driver to win a Truck Series event for KBM. In addition to collecting a series-record seven Owner’s Championships, the organization has produced two championship-winning drivers: Erik Jones (2015) and Christopher Bell (2017).
    • The No. 18, the number which was on the first Tundra that went to victory lane for KBM in 2010, has 24 career victories.

Looking For Third Win with Speedco

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (April 12, 2022) – Zane Smith is ready to play in the dirt this weekend, driving the No. 38 Speedco Ford F-150 at the Bristol Motor Speedway. The track marks the first of two dirt races on the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule.

Smith enters this weekend’s race at Bristol sitting third in the driver standings and is the only driver with two wins through five races this season. Smith’s two wins have come at the season opener in Daytona and the road course at the Circuit of the Americas. Both races have had the Love’s and Speedco brands as primary partners, a streak he hopes to keep going this weekend.

“I feel great heading into Bristol this weekend,” Smith stated. “I ran well there last year, finished in the top-10. I know this No. 38 team also had a good weekend, so I feel this is the perfect combination for a good weekend.”

Smith is also excited to have Speedco back on board for this weekend’s race, hoping to put their brand back in Victory Lane.

“Every time we have had this truck in Victory Lane this year, it’s been with the Love’s/Speedco brand on the hood,” Smith said. “Hopefully this weekend at Bristol we can keep the streak going and make it three for three.”

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Bristol will air live on Saturday at 8:00 p.m. ET on FS1.

We’ve done so much in a short time together and this one is a match made, well, in dirt. FRM Martinsville Recap: Smith Top-10 in Truck Race, McDowell 25th and Gilliland Earns Best Starting Position

    Smith Top-10 in Truck Race
McDowell 25th and Gilliland Earns Best Starting Position

All three of the Front Row Motorsports (FRM) NASCAR teams were in action this past weekend at the Martinsville (Va.) Speedway. Zane Smith went into the weekend searching for his third Truck Series win in the first five races of the season season, and Todd Gilliland and Michael McDowell looked for solid runs on Saturday night.

ZANE SMITH REBOUNDS AFTER SPEEDING PENALTY TO FINISH 9TH

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway started off with a wet track. Rain throughout Thursday kept the trucks under their covers right until race time. Smith benefited from the rain, as both practice and qualifying were cancelled. Thus, Smith started from the pole.

The No. 38 Michael Roberts Construction (MRC) Ford F-150 team had a great start to the race. Smith jumped out to the front and led every lap of Stage One to pick up his third stage win of the season.

Smith raced in the top-10 for a majority of the final two stages, but suffered a speeding penalty exiting pit road. Smith raced back through the field, made one last pit stop for fresh tires, and charged from 20th to ninth in the final laps.

    SMITH ON MARTINSVILLE:

“We had another really fast truck in Martinsville. I hate that we were caught speeding there, but the No. 38 MRC crew did great all night to give me exactly what I needed to rebound. We’ve been in contention every race so far this year and that’s all we can ask for.”

MCDOWELL FIGHTS HARD ALL RACE, FINISHES 25th

Saturday evening, Navage Nasal Care returned to the No. 34 Ford Mustang. Qualifying well, McDowell started in the 16th position. The team quickly fought back from being shuffled to the outside groove on the initial start to finish Stage One in the “Lucky Dog” position.

Working to fix a loose handling car, the Navage Nasal Care team made the appropriate adjustments under the stage break. McDowell came out in Stage Two, raced hard, but a lack of cautions and grip on the outside groove didn’t allow McDowell to make any progress.

The team finished the race in the 25th position after much of the same in the final stage. The car had speed, but just a lack of passing affected the final result.

    MCDOWELL ON MARTINSVILLE:

“We were fighting the car for a while, but it started to come to us in the end. We were fast and running top-15 laps times, but what hurt us was that caution after our green flag stop. After that, we just were not able to get the track position back. The result doesn’t reflect how our Navage Nasal Care Ford Mustang raced.”

GILLILAND STRUGGLES WITH GRIP, FINISHES 30TH

Todd Gilliland made his first start at the Martinsville (Va.) Speedway in the NASCAR Cup Series on Saturday night. He started the weekend off hot. Gilliland advanced to the final round of qualifying for the first time in his rookie campaign and started Saturday’s 400-lap night race in the 10th position.

Gilliland was fast in the opening laps, but lacked some grip. He easily stayed on the Lead Lap in Stage One and stayed within the top-20 before pitting for fresh tires at the end of the stage. In Stage 2, Gilliland again had the Cross Country Adjusting Ford Mustang running with the leaders. He made a few passes before falling back at the end of Stage 2.

An untimely caution in the final stage, Gilliland fell down two laps, but still in the top-25. In the closing laps, the brakes faded and Gilliland made contact with the outside wall.

    GILLILAND ON MARTINSVILLE:

“I was really happy to qualify the Cross Country Adjusting Ford Mustang inside the top-10 at Martinsville. That was a lot of fun. In the race, we were close on the handling, but I learned a lot. It’s disappointing not have a better finish, but I’ll keep learning and getting better.”

Race Rundown – No. 45 AUTOParkit Chevrolet Silverado

Alan and the No. 45 team held steady in the top-20 in the opening laps at Martinsville Thursday night before a strategy call to stay out during the caution on lap 38 positioned them in the top-10 heading into the final laps of Stage One. Alan fell one spot short of earning a stage point, settling for 11th in the opening stage.

After pitting at the stage break before the start of Stage Two, Alan was sent for a spin in turn two to bring out the caution but remained on the lead lap, resulting in a 29th-place finish in the stage. The No. 45 team opted to stay out at the stage break and restarted the final stage in eighth, but differing strategies on the track shuffled Alan back to outside the top-15 before settling for a 20th-place finish – marking the second-consecutive race as the highest finishing rookie in the field.

Alan on his first short track event of the 2022 season: “It was a decent night here at Martinsville for our No. 45 AUTOParkit team. Finishing 20th is not where we wanted to be, but we learned a lot. We were really aggressive – we used people up and we got used up – it’s all part of this place. We’ll learn from this experience and move on to Bristol.”

Race Rundown – No. 42 Premier Security Solutions Chevrolet Silverado

Hocevar kept his No. 42 Chevrolet in the top-10 for a majority of the first stage before opting to pit under caution on lap 39 before the stage break, resulting in 14th-place finish in Stage One. After restarting fourth to begin Stage Two, Hocevar made his way into the bottom lane before making the pass to move into third by lap 62. Following a caution on lap 79, he restarted in second before settling for third in Stage Two to earn eight stage points.

Hocevar began to fight a brake issue towards the end of Stage Two and overshot his pit box during the team’s four-tire stop at the stage break. The team worked to remedy the issue during the final stage but it continued to persist, resulting in a 17th-place finish.

Hocevar on his run at Martinsville Speedway: “We had a top-10 Chevrolet Silverado tonight – running third in stage two showed just how much speed we had – but we just lost the brakes at the end. I overshot my pit box when the brake pedal went to the floor and after 10 laps of each run that followed I lost my brakes. I was still able to maintain everyone in front of me, but I wasn’t able to gain on them since I couldn’t drive harder into the corner. This No. 42 team is pretty good on the dirt so we’ll shift our focus to Bristol next week.”

Race Rundown – No. 44 F.N.B. Corporation Chevrolet Silverado

Wright and the No. 44 team were faced with adversity early on in Thursday night’s race at Martinsville after being involved in the first caution of the night on lap seven, but rallied back to post a 20th-place finish in Stage One. After making a scheduled four-tire stop at the stage break, Wright continued to battle his way through traffic to post a 25th-place result in Stage Two.

On lap 156, Wright was collected in a wreck coming out of turn two and had nowhere to go, resulting in heavy nose damage that put the No. 44 team three laps down. The team worked to make repairs under caution before being black flagged and brought down pit road under green, culminating in a 30th-place effort.

Wright on his night at Martinsville Speedway: “We had a decent run going tonight at Martinsville, but unfortunately had a lot of adversity thrown our way throughout the night that we had to battle through. We did all we could to keep coming back from each incident, but it wasn’t in the cards for us at the end. Getting black flagged at the end only added insult to injury and all we can do is move on and shift our focus to Bristol.”
