NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Press Release

  • WILLIAM BYRON TO PILOT SPIRE MOTORSPORTS’ NO. 7 CHEVY SILVERADO AT MARTINSVILLE SPEEDWAY

WILLIAM BYRON TO PILOT SPIRE MOTORSPORTS’ NO. 7 CHEVY SILVERADO AT MARTINSVILLE SPEEDWAY

CONCORD, N.C. (April 5, 2022) – Spire Motorsports announced today three-time NASCAR Cup Series (NCS) race winner William Byron will pilot the team’s No. 7 Chevrolet Silverado in Thursday night’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series’ Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 200 at Martinsville Speedway.

HendrickCars.com will serve as the effort’s primary sponsor while Axalta, Byron’s NCS majority partner, will be showcased as an associate sponsor on the truck’s decklid and lower-rear quarter panels.

Byron has tallied 14 checkered flags across NASCAR’s top three national touring series, including three in the Cup Series, four in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and seven in the NCWTS. He also collected rookie of the year honors in all three series – one of three drivers to do so – and was crowned the 2017 Xfinity Series champion.

In two previous NCWTS starts at the famed, Ridgeway, Va., half-mile oval, both coming in 2016, Byron finished third and eighth, respectively.

“I’m really excited to get in Spire’s truck this week at Martinsville,” said Byron. “Even though it’s been a couple years since I was in a truck at Martinsville, I had good runs before with a couple top-10 finishes, including a third-place result. I’m excited to see how things have changed since that time. Plus, any more track time at Martinsville is always good since it’s such a rhythm-based track. Bono (Kevin Manion) and the No. 7 truck ran well when they were at COTA and he has done a great job at Martinsville in the past, as well. It should be a fun time.”

Byron, a Charlotte, N.C., native is the full-time driver of Hendrick Motorsports’ No. 24 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 in the NCS and a five-year veteran of NASCAR’s premier series with 151 starts on his résumé. The 24-year-old has earned a win on NASCAR’s senior circuit in each of the last three seasons including his most recent victory in the March 20 Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

In seven NCS races this season, he has notched one win and three top fives, including a third-place effort last weekend at Richmond Raceway. He currently sits fourth in the NCS championship point standings with 19 races remaining in the regular season.

Thursday’s 100-mile NCWTS showcase will mark Byron’s 26th race at the controls of a Truck Series entry.

“We’re thrilled to have William Byron behind the wheel of our No. 7 truck Thursday night at Martinsville Speedway,” said Spire Motorsports co-owner Jeff Dickerson. “Two hundred laps under the lights at a short track like Martinsville is what racers live for. Door-to-door, side-by-side racing is the type of competition our sport was built upon. The on-track product will be second-to-none and emotions are guaranteed to be on full display. Obviously, we’re not racing for points so it’s a lot of fun to put William in the seat, pull out all the stops and see if we can pick up our first Camping World Truck Series win.”

The Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 200 from Martinsville Speedway will be televised live on FS1 Thursday, April 7 beginning at 8 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The race will be broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90.

After restarting 27th to begin stage two, Thompson went for a spin on lap 15 and lost power in his No. 40 Worldwide Express Chevrolet, forcing him to take it to the garage to fix an alternator issue.

Driver: Kris Wright (Wexford, Pa.) | Crew Chief: Wally Rogers

    Follow the Team: @NieceMotorsport; @KrisOnNASCAR

Wright on making his first short track start of the 2022 season: “I am pumped to get back to short-track racing. With how the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event at Circuit of the Americas ended, it will be interesting to see how competitors race each other at The Paperclip. Getting out of the Martinsville Speedway with a semi-clean Chevrolet Silverado will be the key for keeping the momentum going into next week at Bristol (Motor Speedway).”

Wright at Martinsville Speedway: Wright makes his second-career start at Martinsville in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Thursday night. His lone start came in last season’s event where he ran to a 13th-place finish after starting 26th.

On the Truck: Wright and the No. 44 Chevrolet Silverado will carry the red, white, and blue F.N.B. Corporation paint scheme Thursday night.

Last Time Out (XPEL 225 – Start: 17th / Finish: 15th): Wright and the No. 44 F.N.B. Corporation team worked to find a good balance for their Chevrolet Silverado during the first stage of Saturday’s XPEL 225. Wright wheeled the No. 44 to a 14th-place finish in stage one and, after restarting 22nd for stage two, worked his way back into the top-15 by lap 20.

Wright came away with a 13th-place finish in stage two and made a scheduled four tire stop at the stage break. While under caution on lap 29, Wright reported a tire rub which forced the No. 44 team to give up its track position to address the issue and come down pit road to pull the fenders out.

Despite restarting in the back half of the field, Wright maneuvered his way through traffic and evaded a number of spins in front of him to climb his way back into the top-20 – and eventually the top-15 – to come away with a season-best finish of 15th Saturday.

Alan on making his first short track start this season: “I’m excited to make my first start at Martinsville with AUTOParkit and Niece Motorsports. [Martinsville Speedway] is called the paperclip for a reason – there’s action all over the track at all times which makes for a tough week in the fabrication shop following the race. Our No. 45 team is also looking to build on the momentum from our run at Circuit of the Americas and continuing to trend upward in the standings this week.”

Alan at Martinsville Speedway: Alan makes his first-career start at Martinsville Speedway in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Thursday night.

On the Truck: Alan and the No. 45 Chevrolet Silverado will run the AUTOParkit™ scheme for Thursday’s Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 200.

Last time out (XPEL 225 – Start: 24th / Finish: 11th): Alan and the No. 45 team were forced to start at the rear of the field in Saturday’s XPEL 225 after making adjustments prior to the race, but quickly made up ground in the early laps of stage one. On lap six, Alan was scored 23rd before crossing the line in 13th-place at the end of stage one. Following a four tire stop at the stage break, Alan restarted 23rd but made his way into the top-10 by lap 22, scored in seventh-place.

The No. 45 team received a pit road penalty following their pit stop before the start of the final stage for an uncontrolled tire, forcing Alan to restart at the rear of the field. Alan was scored 22nd with ten laps to go, but worked his way into the top-15 with three to go before heading into the first of two overtimes.

Alan restarted the second and final overtime in ninth-place and narrowly missed his first career top-10 finish, but came away with a career-best 11th-place effort and was the highest finishing rookie in the XPEL 225, garnering Sunoco Rookie of the Race honors.

    Follow the Team: @NieceMotorsport; @CarsonHocevar

Hocevar on making his first short track start of the 2022 season: “I feel pretty confident going into Martinsville this week. We were on the front row last fall before a penalty set us back, but we rallied to drive back up into the top-10. Our No. 42 team had good speed last year and I know we’re bringing an even better truck to the track this year – we made big gains during the offseason. Hopefully we can go from good to great, capitalize with some stage points, and finally put a win banner up in the shop at Niece Motorsports.”

Hocevar at Martinsville Speedway: Hocevar makes his third career start at Martinsville Speedway in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Thursday night. He owns an average finish of 12.5 at the Virginia short track with a 13th-place finish in 2020 and a 12th-place result during his rookie season in 2021.

In 2020, Hocevar started 33rd and made his way through the field to lead five laps en route to a top-15 showing. In last season’s event, he started eighth and led four laps before finishing 12th.

On the Truck: Hocevar and the No. 42 Chevrolet Silverado will run the Premier Security Solutions paint scheme for Thursday’s Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 200.

Last time out (XPEL 225 – Start: 6th / Finish: 8th): Hocevar held on to his top-10 starting position for a majority of the opening stage before pitting from sixth-place on lap nine for a scheduled four tire stop before the end of stage one. After rejoining the field in 19th, Hocevar came across the line 16th in the opening stage and opted to not pit at the stage break, allowing him to restart stage two in sixth-place.

Hocevar picked his way through traffic in the first two laps of stage two to make his way up to fourth-place before pitting under caution on lap 21 for four tires and fuel. He made up 11 positions from the time of the restart to the end of stage two to pick up three stage points with an eighth-place result.

With ten laps to go, Hocevar restarted third and quickly made his way into second-place with a pass on the inside in turn one. On the following restart on the outside of the front row, Hocevar was shoved up the race track and fell back to eighth-place before ultimately restarting 10th for the first overtime. Despite the race ending under caution in the second overtime, Hocevar was able to secure his second top-10 finish of the season with an eighth-place result.

  • Ford Performance NASCAR: Zane Smith Going For Third Truck Series Win of 2022 at Martinsville

Ford Performance NASCAR: Zane Smith Going For Third Truck Series Win of 2022 at Martinsville

    Ford Performance Notes and Quotes
    NASCAR Camping World Truck Series
    Martinsville Advance | Tuesday, April 5, 2022

Zane Smith, driver of the No. 38 Ford F-150 for Front Row Motorsports, is the only one in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series with two victories after coming away with a win two weeks ago at Circuit of the Americas. Smith also won the last time the series headed to this week’s stop – Martinsville Speedway. He was a guest today on a Ford-hosted media call and spoke with reporters about his season.

ZANE SMITH, No. 38 Front Row Motorsports F-150 – WHAT IS IT ABOUT MARTINSVILLE THAT SUITS YOUR STYLE? “I feel like Martinsville is probably, if not the biggest rhythm track that we go to, and I feel like ever since I was a little kid on short tracks and that’s really at the end of the day what it is, they’ve just suited me. I really enjoy going to those places. The racing is always hectic, but it’s always a thrill of a finish and fortunately I’ve been on the good side of those recently. Hopefully, we can continue that wave.”

HOW CONFIDENT ARE YOU ABOUT YOUR CHAMPIONSHIP CHANCES WITH FORD? “It’s so early to talk about championship stuff just because of the format that we go through. You’ve seen guys that dominate the regular season and then when the playoffs come around they struggle to have things go their way, so I’m trying not to get caught up in the too high of highs and enjoy the amount of fun that we’re having each and every weekend so far. Going back to Ford and being underneath that banner now has been awesome. The simulation tools and everyone I’ve been able to meet over the past few weeks or a couple months now have been awesome to lean on and work with, so the simulator time is still extremely valuable even in the normal world and now we’re kind of coming out of the COVID world, but I think typically we’re only getting 30 minutes or an hour of practice, so if you don’t have that you really lean on your simulation tools and they give us that, so a huge thank you to them and we’ll continue getting those Blue Ovals in victory lane.”

WHAT DOES HAVING TWO WINS AT THIS POINT DO FOR YOU AND YOUR TEAM AS FAR AS YOUR APPROACH TO RACES AND STRATEGY? “I wish we had a few more stage wins and more stage points in general and then I feel like we’d be able to really approach these races a lot differently, but being locked in, and I think I have more wins than anyone this year, has been awesome. It not only boost my confidence, but really my whole team. It’s a lot of fun we’re having each and every week, so we’re just trying to enjoy that. I feel like I stole a clock from this team last year, so hopefully I can get them one this year.”

YOU ARE 31 POINTS OUT OF THE LEAD. ARE BONUS POINTS A PRIORITY NOW? “Yeah, I’ve always wanted to win that in general from my get-go in the truck series. It’s definitely something on our mind. We’ve already taken our hit to the gut at Vegas, so in our minds and many others we’re still looking at our year as a first, a second, a fifth and a first. I don’t know, I guess technically it’s not there, so I feel like that’s where that points buffer has hit us, but I feel like to still be fourth with that this early in the season really says something about our team. Honestly, COTA was a great points day. We maxed out on that. If we’re in contention to win that regular season championship and collect those extra points, it’s gonna be awesome, but myself and my team we’re just chasing wins and trophies right now and having fun in the process.”

HOW DO YOU MANAGE THE CHAOS AT MARTINSVILLE? “I don’t know how it will be this year. Martinsville is always crazy, but I feel like we’ve seen the past few years it’s been the transfer race to get to the final four, so I feel like that really made the aggression level really high there at time. Going back and watching film of the night race in 2020 it was ugly how aggressive it got, and that was my first time ever at Martinsville so I was a little gun shy, but I was in a must-win situation last year and we pulled it off. I just feel like that place has been good to me and it fits me and I always look forward to Martinsville week.”

HOW DO YOU APPROACH THE BRISTOL DIRT RACE THIS YEAR? “I don’t know what to expect for Bristol dirt. I don’t think anyone has a clear answer for that, but I know Bristol dirt last year in the very beginning was some of the most fun I’ve ever had in a truck and then at the very end I didn’t have quite that much fun, just from the seeing concept of things, but I’ve heard they’re trying to work out those bugs and make it a good show for us. I feel like we’re all kind of in the same boat there and I love that.”

WHAT WAS IT LIKE GOING DOWN FROM A FIVE TRUCK TEAM TO ONE? “It was definitely really different at first just because I’d been so used to always seeing truck parts and pieces floating around the shop and now it’s definitely in a smaller building and we’re surrounded by Cup cars. Obviously, the whole Cup world is crazy right now with getting cars and stuff. It’s been crazy to see the shop slowly but surely fill up with new cars, but it’s been really cool, honestly, to see not only all of FRM but especially the fab shop because they’re not as busy anymore and the Cup guys on their off days will give a helping hand to the truck team and that’s what winning and championship race teams do. They look at themselves as almost one and I feel like that’s what Front Row is and when I went over there I really tried to pay attention to the people and I feel like the team I have assembled on my 38 truck is as good as it gets. I’m just having a ton of fun with the group I’m with this year and look forward to the future.”

HOW HAVE YOU BEEN ABLE TO ADJUST TO A NEW TEAM SO QUICKLY AND HIT THE GROUND RUNNING LIKE YOU HAVE? “I feel like if you finish Daytona rolling, it’s gonna be a good year, so we finished Daytona winning. Once that happened, it was kind of a different ballgame of we got to focus forward on all the next steps, already locked in the playoffs and just getting to go have fun and chase trophies. I know that word keeps coming up of having fun, but that’s just simplifying it of what we’re doing and it’s been working.”

WHAT IS YOUR FEELING ON THE RIGHT WAY OF MOVING SOMEONE OR BEING IN THAT POSITION WHERE YOU COULD GET MOVED. HOW DO YOU BALANCE THAT? “I feel like each and every single one of us have known what moving someone the right way versus wrecking somebody is. I feel like we’ve known that since we were 12 years old at our first short track or something like that. I don’t know. A few of us are pretty good at measuring that out and some are absolutely awful at measuring that out, and so the guys that are awful, obviously it’s in our head that we’re gonna treat you how we’re treated and vice versa with the guys who do it the right way. It’s however you want to race me is how I look at it and I’ll typically do it two times worse back to you. That’s how I’ve always been about it.”

DO YOU EXPECT THAT AT THE END ON A SHORT TRACK IF YOU’RE LEADING AND WHAT ABOUT IF YOU’RE SECOND WITH HOW VALUABLE WINS ARE? “It’s a little bit different Martinsville now since we’re still early in the year and you don’t really want to make enemies. This isn’t now the final transfer race to get to the final four, so I don’t know. I probably say that and it’ll be 10 times worse, but I feel like everyone should try to initially pass the guy in front of them and if you can’t get it done, then, yeah, I don’t see anything wrong with just the classic short track bump and run, but there’s a difference between a bump and run and a dump and run. Hopefully, we could stay smart with that.”

WHAT WOULD BE YOUR IDEAL ZANE SMITH RACE TRACK IF YOU HAD UNLIMITED MONEY? “I don’t know. Personally, one of my favorite racetrack is Dover. I love that place so much no matter what it’s in. I was super bummed out when the Truck Series quit going there, but hopefully in the near future I can go grab another monster.”

THIS WILL BE THE FIRST SPRING RACE AT MARTINSVILLE IN THREE YEARS AND THERE’S NO FALL RACE TO FOLLOW IT FOR THE FIRST TIME. HOW MUCH DOES THAT CHANGE THE DYNAMIC OF THIS RACE? “I see what NASCAR is trying to do putting it still right after a road course where we all get into each other so we all go into it pissed off. I feel like the past couple years you spend all year and the guys that haven’t won are extremely aggressive. The guys that are in a must-win are extremely aggressive and then there are just the normal guys that are always aggressive. I feel like you could possibly see a three-truck breakaway maybe in this one and those guys duke it out. I don’t see it being such a caution fest as its been in the past couple years, but, like I said, now that I say that I’ll probably get proved wrong, but you would think they wouldn’t be as aggressive. I don’t know. I’ll race however it is.”

Busch opened up the season with a runner-up finish at Las Vegas and in the series’ last event scored a third-place result despite dominating the XPEL 225 at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Tex. ‘Rowdy’ led 31 of 46 laps total and found himself in control of the race before two late-race cautions would force the field to group back together. On the second overtime restart, Alex Bowman and Stewart Friesen both overdrove the entry to Turn 11 slamming into Busch and opening a hole for Zane Smith to take the late lead. After being forced off track, Busch tried to battle his way back up to the front over the final lap and a half but would ultimately bring home a third-place finish.

‘Rowdy’ is hoping that entering the Truck Series race at Martinsville every three years continues to be the charm as he has won the last two times he’s raced at the 0.526-mile oval over the last six seasons. Thursday night’s start at Martinsville will mark the first time that the Las Vegas native has competed in a Truck Series race at ‘The Paperclip’ since winning the spring event in 2019 when he led 174 of 250 laps en route to his second Truck Series triumph at Martinsville. The last time he had entered the Truck Series race prior to that was in 2016, when he led 123 of 255 laps on his way to victory lane. In addition to the two grandfather clocks he collected in Truck Series actions, Busch has won twice in Cup Series action: the spring of 2016 and the fall of 2017.

Busch, the winningest driver in series history, enters Martinsville having won 37.7% (61/162) of the Truck Series races he has entered and finished first or second in 56.8% (92/162). Since the start of the 2017 season the talented wheelman has produced an average finish of 3.2 across his 22 starts in NASCAR’s third division, including 12 wins and seven runner-up finishes.

In addition to his Truck Series leading 61 wins, ‘Rowdy’ also ranks first all-time among Truck Series drivers in driver rating (123.6), average finish (6.58) and is second in laps led (7,590).

Mardy Lindley returns to KBM for his second season atop the pit box of the No. 51 team. In addition to this year’s win with Corey Heim at Atlanta Motor Speedway, the No. 51 team produced three victories in Lindley’s first season as a crew chief at KBM, two with Busch and one with Martin Truex Jr. Before arriving at KBM, Lindley guided his drivers to 32 wins and four ARCA Menards Series East championships since 2013, including back-to-back titles with Sam Mayer the last two seasons. Additionally, he earned the ARCA Menards Series Sioux Chief Showdown championship with Mayer in 2020. Behind the wheel, the second-generation driver won 11 races on the Pro Cup Series from 2000 to 2006 and was crowned the series champion in 2001. Lindley has called the shots for two Truck Series events at Martinsville, with Corey Heim’s 11th-place result last October being the best finish. Lindley’s father, Butch, finished second to Harry Gant in the Cup Series race at Martinsville on April 25, 1982.

The No. 51 team currently sits fourth in the Owner’s Championship standings. After four events they are just 27 points behind the No. 18 KBM team but are currently in the owner’s portion of the playoffs via Corey Heim’s win at Atlanta.

Rowdy Energy, the enhanced hydration formula energy drink created by Busch, and vendor partner Amazon will adorn the bedtop of the No. 51 Tundra for Thursday’s race at Martinsville. Rowdy Energy Drink is currently available in 10 flavors, including seven sugar free options that are KETO certified. Use Rowdy Energy’s store locator at https://rowdyenergy.com/pages/store-locator to find where you can pick up a can today, or order online at www.rowdyenergy.com.

All three KBM Tundra TRD Pros will carry a special decal on the B post this week promoting Autism Awareness that includes the twitter handle of NASCAR Sammy (@NASCARSammy), an avid NASCAR fan and autism advocate. Fans can visit his website, nascarsammy.com to purchase a decal and help support his mission.

    Kyle Busch, Driver Q&A:
What does it take to be successful in a truck at Martinsville?
“You have to have a truck that will turn the center without getting too loose in and too loose off. You also have to play the strategy right to be up front at the end of the race and have enough tire left to hold people off. The last two truck races that I’ve won at Martinsville have been 250-lap races, so it’ll be a little bit different with Thursday night being only 200 laps and then also with the new practice system we’ll only have 15 minutes of practice to get our JBL Tundra dialed in. So, we’ll need to make sure we unload with a truck that is close because there isn’t much you can do to improve the handling with limited practice and limited pit stops in the race.”

    Kyle Busch Career Highlights:

    • Busch has a total of 162 Camping World Trucks starts and is ranked first all-time in wins (61), driver rating (123.6) and average finish (6.65).
    • The 36-year-old driver has won 37.7% (61/162) of the NCWTS races he has entered and finished first or second in 56.8% (92/162).
    • Busch stands alone as the leader in all-time career wins in NASCAR’s national touring series with 222 total victories. He has earned 59 NASCAR Cup Series wins, 102 NASCAR Xfinity Series wins, and 61 NCWTS wins.
    • In August of 2010, Busch made history when he won the NCWTS, NXS and NCS races at Bristol Motor Speedway, becoming the only driver to sweep all three of NASCAR’s top three series at one track on the same weekend. He then repeated the feat in August of 2017.

Kyle Busch’s No. 51 JBL Tundra TRD Pro:

    Date/Broadcast: April 7, 2022, at 8 p.m. ET on FS1, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR 90

    Nemechek #Back4More in 2022:
Nemechek and the No. 4 Mobil 1 team head to Martinsville (Va.) Speedway looking to build momentum off of their second-place finish at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) on March 26. Despite being sent to the rear of the field twice during the 46-lap event at COTA, the No. 4 team rebounded for their first top-five finish of the season.

Through the first four races of the 2022 season, Nemechek currently sits eighth in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series standings, 55 points behind his Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) teammate Chandler Smith, who leads the standings. Nemechek has led at least one lap in each of the first four races this season and leads the NASCAR Truck Series with three stage wins and 85 laps led.

The 24-year-old driver will be making his 14th career start at Martinsville Speedway in Camping World Truck series action. He has tallied one win (2018), 83 laps led, four top-five, and five top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 16.2 in his first 13 starts. He also has two starts at ‘The Paperclip’ in the NASCAR Cup Series, with a best finish of 25th coming in the spring event in 2020.

The Toyota Racing driver spent the Truck Series off weekend racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Richmond (Va.) Raceway in the No. 18 Toyota Supra for Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR). Nemechek started second, won the first stage, and led a race-high 135 laps before finishing second to JGR teammate Ty Gibbs.

The world’s leading synthetic motor oil, Mobil 1, will adorn the hood of the No. 4 Tundra TRD Pro Thursday night at Martinsville Speedway. Mobil 1 returns as the primary sponsor of Nemechek’s Toyota in the following Truck Series event at the Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway Dirt race on April 16.

Nemechek is an 11-time winner in Camping World Truck Series action, winning at least one race each season from 2015 to 2018 for his family-owned team, NEMCO Motorsports, and returning to victory lane in 2021 with KBM. Across 128 career starts in NASCAR’s third division, he has compiled three poles, 1,266 laps led, 41 top-five and 67 top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 12.8.

Eric Phillips returned to lead the No. 4 team in 2022. His 41 career Truck Series victories make him the winningest crew chief in Truck Series history, with 32 of those coming while at KBM including five last year. Phillips led the No. 18 team at KBM in its debut season in 2010 and helped build the organization into one of the premier teams in all of NASCAR before departing at the end of the 2014 season. Under his guidance, the No. 18 team won eight races in its inaugural campaign and became the first team in Truck Series history to capture an owner’s championship in its first season of competition. In 2014, the Illinois native led the No. 51 team to an owner’s championship and his team’s 10 wins spearheaded KBM to a single-season Truck Series record of 14 wins. At Martinsville, Phillip’s drivers have collected two poles, one win (Denny Hamlin, 2011), 251 laps led, six top-five, and 12 top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 14.2 across 21 starts.

    John Hunter Nemechek, Driver Q&A:
John Hunter Nemechek | Martinsville Speedway Preview
Do you feel like things are finally starting to turn your way a little bit after having a tough start to the year?
“I definitely think so. I think after having a tough start to the year it’s definitely turned a little bit to try and get the ship righted in the right direction. I think the biggest thing for us is just being able to finish races. We’ve had speed all year, we’ve been able to get a lot of stage points and some stage wins and that has kept us in the points position that we’re in. Definitely feel like after having the second-place finish at COTA and now having the second-place finish last weekend at Richmond in the Xfinity Series car, we’re on the right track.”

What’s the most challenging part about Martinsville?
“I think the most challenging part is having track position, how to pass, and trying not to make enemies. It is a short track so it’s not if you are going to get run into, it’s when you are going to get run into. So, trying to keep your head cool and not lose your mind in a sense and not make any mistakes. I think the biggest thing for us is to go there and have a solid day. We’ve got to get some more solid finishes underneath our belt and just be able to race hard. You can have everything going right for you all day and get turned or make somebody mad and they can ruin your day so just have to keep the truck in one piece and be there at the end when it counts.”

Do you think with Martinsville being a regular season race that people will be less aggressive?
“I think that times have changed and seems like everybody is being aggressive now no matter where you go. I think the biggest thing for us is knowing who you’re racing around, how they’re going to race you, and different things of that sort. Just because it’s not a playoff race doesn’t mean that it doesn’t matter so I still feel like the intensity is going to be high and everybody is going to be racing as hard as they can to try and maximize their performance and get the best finish that they can.”
