  • United Rentals Backs Stewart-Haas Racing and Driver Ryan Preece

United Rentals Backs Stewart-Haas Racing and Driver Ryan Preece

World’s Largest Equipment Rental Company an Official Partner of SHR

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (March 1, 2022) – United Rentals, Inc. (NYSE: URI) has joined Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) as an official partner, with the largest equipment rental company in the world serving as a primary sponsor of the NASCAR team’s reserve driver, Ryan Preece, for select races in 2022.

In addition to performing yearlong simulator work for SHR, Preece is running a mix of races across each of NASCAR’s top-three national touring series – Cup, Xfinity and Camping World Truck. United Rentals will make its debut with Preece this Friday in the Truck Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway where the 31-year-old from Berlin, Connecticut, will drive the No. 17 United Rentals Ford F-150 for David Gilliland Racing in the Victoria’s Voice Foundation 200.

United Rentals will return as the primary sponsor of Preece and the No. 17 Ford F-150 at two more Truck Series races – March 19 at Atlanta Motor Speedway and May 6 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway. United Rentals will also sponsor Preece in one Cup Series race and one Xfinity Series race in 2022, with details regarding those two races to be announced at a later date.

“Motorsports is all about getting the job done quickly and efficiently without sacrificing safety or performance. That’s what we do every day at United Rentals. We help companies big and small grow through collaboration and teamwork, and our partnership with Stewart-Haas Racing and Ryan Preece allows us to demonstrate the power of working united on the racetrack while simultaneously engaging with our customers and employees,” said Dale Asplund, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, United Rentals.

Preece made two Truck Series starts last year, winning in his series debut June 18 at Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway. He is a two-time Xfinity Series victor, winning in July 2017 at Iowa Speedway in Newton and in April 2018 at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway. Preece spent the last three seasons (2019-2021) competing fulltime in Cup.

“I’ve always been hands-on in preparing my racecars, and that has meant being hands on when it comes to getting the resources I need to go racing. I feel like I’ve done every job on the racecar and in the shop, so that means I know my way around a lot of the equipment United Rentals provides,” said Preece, a dedicated Ford Performance driver in each series in which he competes. “Scissor lifts, forklifts, generators, air compressors – I’ve rented them and run them. This partnership with United Rentals is as authentic as they come, and I’m proud to represent them.”

Preece is especially known for his exploits on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. He won the series championship in 2013 and has amassed 25 victories, three of which came last year – July 17 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, Aug. 6 at Stafford (Conn.) Motor Speedway, and Sept. 10 at Richmond (Va.) Raceway.

“Ryan joined Stewart-Haas Racing at the beginning of the year and his value to our organization is already being felt,” said Brett Frood, President, SHR. “He epitomizes the old-school racing mentality that is at the core of our organization’s DNA. The opportunity to race for a trophy at Las Vegas will only enhance the intangibles he has been providing to our teams. United Rentals will be proud to have such an incredible competitor and brand ambassador.”

Clean Harbors Partners With Thad Moffitt at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Statesville, NC – GMS Racing is proud to announce a new multi-race partnership with Clean Harbors, North America’s leading provider of environmental and industrial services. The partnership, which will include primary sponsorship on Thad Moffitt’s No. 43 Chevrolet in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, will first be showcased at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Friday night.

Thad Moffitt will make just his second-career NCWTS start driving the Clean Harbors Silverado RST, coming two weeks after his series debut at Daytona, which resulted in a solid 18th-place finish. The fourth-generation driver will experience Truck racing on an intermediate track for the first time, relying on past experience in the ARCA Menards Series to help acclimate him to the type of track.

“Clean Harbors was the first major partner in my career, and they have supported me since 2017. As I have progressed through the NASCAR ranks, Clean Harbors has been there in every step of the way, and I am super excited to bring them into the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series with our Reaume Brothers Racing team along with the additional support from GMS Racing. It’s great to kick off the start of our 2022 partnership this weekend, and I look forward to representing them in additional races later this season. Las Vegas Motor Speedway is a track that I’ve never been to before, and Clean Harbors has never been a primary sponsor of a truck, so this will be a new experience for all of us. I’m excited to continue to grow our partnership and am ready to debut this awesome looking Silverado!” said Moffitt prior to the announcement.

Today, Safety-Kleen services GMS and Reaume Bros Racing. As the official environmental services supplier of NASCAR, Safety-Kleen also collects all used oil, lubricants and liquid waste at the tracks, and then recycles, responsibly disposes of or re-refines those fluids.

“We’ve watched and backed Thad as he’s risen through the ranks year after year. We’re incredibly proud that he’s taking this next step into the Truck Series,” said Buddy Judy, Clean Harbors director of motorsports. “We’re especially excited to see him compete this year as the driver of the iconic No. 43. It’s a historic moment for the sport and, for the Clean Harbors family, it’s a full-circle realization after being partners with Thad’s grandfather and the Petty family for so long.”

Moffitt will compete in a hybrid schedule in 2022 which will include the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, ARCA Menards Series and Trans AM. Additional details of Moffitt’s schedule along with further partnership announcements, will be forthcoming. Race Rundown – No. 45 AUTOParkit Chevrolet Silverado

After qualifying in the top-10 in his season debut, Alan and the No. 45 team suffered an early setback in the opening laps as the Sunoco Rookie of the Year Contender was brought to pit road for an unscheduled stop for a potential issue. Alan battled back to receive the free pass at the conclusion of stage two to get back on the lead lap. After linking up in the draft with Niece Motorsports teammates Carson Hocevar and Kris Wright, Alan made his way to the lead pack with four to go using the high line before he was collected in a 12-truck incident coming to the white flag. The No. 45 made several stops for repairs prior to overtime, but had to settle for a 25th-place finish making Alan the highest-finishing rookie in the NextEra Energy 250.

Alan on his season debut at Daytona: “It was a tough race here in Daytona. We had a really fast AUTOParkit Chevrolet Silverado and just got caught at the wrong place at the wrong time. I’m really proud of the effort our Niece Motorsports team put in this weekend.”

Race Rundown – No. 42 Premier Security Solutions Chevrolet Silverado

Hocevar and the No. 42 team were mired in the second pack of trucks for a majority of the first two stages before crew chief Phil Gould made the call for a two-tire stop under caution on lap 65 while most of the leaders opted for fuel only. The call paid off as Hocevar made a charge to the front while avoiding a wreck in turn four on lap 81 before ultimately restarting 11th in overtime. Hocevar continued his push forward, but a caution on the front stretch on the final lap halted his charge, resulting in a ninth-place finish. The 19 year-old posted the 10th-fastest overall lap average on the night (49.682).

Hocevar on his top-10 finish to open the 2022 season: “We committed to that strategy – all in or all out – and we were all out just waiting for [the field] to crash and then we could race. It took all the way to [lap] 99 to finally be able to race, but it definitely worked out. It was hard to pass so I think it was the right strategy and it worked out for the second-straight year. I wish it could have turned out a little bit better if we got one more lap but, overall, we’re going to Las Vegas with some chips left.”

Race Rundown – No. 44 F.N.B. Corporation Chevrolet Silverado

Wright kept his No. 44 F.N.B. Corporation Chevrolet Silverado in line with the No. 42 of teammate Carson Hocevar for much of the early going as the two led the second pack of trucks in the draft. After serving a one-lap penalty for a pit road violation on lap 67, Wright got himself back on the lead lap via the free pass following a caution on lap 79. With 16 to go, Wright was collected in an incident in turn four and brought the No. 44 to pit road to repair right side damage but battled his way back to 12th for the overtime restart. Shortly after taking the white flag while following the high line to the front, the No. 44 was again collected in a wreck – this time on the frontstretch ultimately ending the race – resulting in a 19th-place finish.

Wright on his season debut at Daytona: “We had a really good F.N.B. Corporation Chevrolet Silverado. We battled all race long and were in position when it mattered most. The No. 42 and I had some good chemistry and could make a run when needed. There wasn’t much we could do there at the end and was just in the wrong place at the wrong time which is disappointing.”

    Start: 26th
    Finish: 17th

    • Hailie Deegan qualified 26th for the NextEra Energy 250 ahead of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season debut at the Daytona International Speedway. The driver immediately made her presence felt in Stage 1 as Deegan was able to crack the top-10 on lap seven.
    • The Monster Energy F-150 developed a loose condition as the run carried on, forcing her to drop to 18th by the end of the opening stage. Finding herself free off the corners, the team took on four tires and fuel, while making adjustments to tighten her truck.
    • Deegan fought to stay within the top-15 for most of Stage 2 before handling issues would render her to a 17th-place stage finish. The Temecula, CA native reported she was uncomfortable with her truck on new tires, and noted she was more confident in its performance as her Goodyear Eagle’s came to temperature.
    • After a Stage 3 caution on lap 63, Deegan pitted to top off her F-150 with fuel heading to the conclusion of the final stage. Following a second caution on lap 80, Deegan entered the top-10 on the ensuing restart with 7 to go.
    • Deegan got comfortable in the race’s waning moments, moving between sixth and 10th within the closing laps, before a wreck on lap 99 that ultimately inflicted the No. 1 team with heavy right-side damage.
    • After making two separate trips down pit road while the track was being readied for overtime, the crew was able to make enough repairs for Deegan to take the green on the race’s final restart. Coming to the line in 19th, the 20-year-old moved up two spots and was credited with a 17th-place finish to start the 2022 NCWTS season.

Tanner Gray, No. 15 Black’s Tire Ford F-150
    Start: 24th
    Finish: 4th

    • Tanner Gray qualified 24th for the season-opening NextEra Energy 250. He quickly moved down into the bottom lane and drove his way forward, advancing into the top-10 on lap 12.
    • The driver reported his Black’s Tire F-150 felt good, but was loose off of turn four throughout the first stage. He would finish eighth in Stage 1 and earn three stage points.
    • Gray pitted for fuel and a trackbar adjustment and started the second stage from the fifth position.
    • The 22-year-old rode inside the top-10 for nearly all of the stage, but a run from the outside lane of cars on the final lap saw the No. 15 end up with an 11th-place effort at the end of Stage 2. The team opted for tires, fuel and air pressure adjustments this time down pit road.
    • Gray restarted the final stage in 13th and moved into seventh in the opening two laps. He was running in that position when the caution flag waved on lap 63. Crew chief Jerry Baxter made the call to pit again for right-side tires and fuel. Gray was nabbed for speeding on pit road and had to restart at the tail of the field.
    • Green flag waved on lap 67 and by lap 75, the New Mexico native once again found himself inside the top-10. Despite a series of cautions with under 20 to go, he continued to hold steady around seventh and was running there when the caution came out with one lap to go.
    • For overtime, Gray restarted inside third row in the fifth position. After pushing the lead trio past the white flag, the caution flag waved for the final time effectively ending the race and the No. 15 was credited with a fourth-place finish.

Riley Herbst, No. 17 Mechanix Wear Ford F-150
    Start: 8th
    Finish: 12th

    • Riley Herbst started eighth for the 100-lap season opener at the Daytona International Speedway.
    • The Xfinity Series regular bided his time in the outside lane from the drop of the green flag and was running in 12th on lap 12, but opted to bail out of line the following lap and drop to the rear of the lead pack. He would finish Stage 1 in 16th.
    • The driver reported the truck was very loose and the team changed four tires, added fuel and made a trackbar adjustment and rejoined the field to restart 21st for the second stage.
    • With the handling feeling better, Herbst decided to not press his luck for this stint and held his place in line at the back of the lead group. He finished Stage 2 in 18th.
    • Chad Johnston had the driver come down pit road for tires, fuel and further trackbar adjustments. An uncontrolled tire penalty during this round of pitstops relegated the No. 17 F-150 to the tail of the field.
    • When the caution flag waved on lap 63, the Las Vegas driver was back into the top-10 in the eighth position. He would pit for fuel and restart in seventh.
    • Herbst was running in 13th when the penultimate yellow occurred as the leaders were nearly taking the white flag. He was collected in the multi-truck accident that spanned across the entire frontstretch and sustained damage to both sides of his Mechanix Wear F-150. After pitting for damage repair, he was able to rejoin the field for the closing laps and brought home a 12th-place finish.

Grant Enfinger, No. 23 Champion Power Equipment Chevrolet Silverado RST

    START: 4TH

    FINISH: 29TH

    POINTS: 26TH

Quote: “Well we were trying to wreck all race, and finally succeeded at the end there, I’m not quite sure what happened there but we were running around eighth or ninth when I got hit pretty hard. Thankfully, GMS Racing builds safe trucks, but it just ended our night unfortunately. We had some good runs going there with our alliance teammates there in the 19 and 91, along with our Team Chevy teammate in the 75, they gave me some good shoves. We were making progress at the right time, but just came up short.”

Jack Wood, No. 24 Make An Impact Now Foundation Chevrolet Silverado RST

    START: 11TH

    FINISH: 33RD

    POINTS: 31ST

Quote: “My No. 24 truck was just free all race, it never felt like we were able to get it better there. I was able to suck up pretty good in the draft, but it felt like every time I got around anyone else, my truck would break loose. In the last fifteen laps or so, the truck just kept getting worse and worse, getting free even all by itself. Unfortunately, it got to the point where we ended up either blowing a tire or having something break, ending our night in a hard crash. I know how hard my team works to prepare these trucks, so to have it come to an end like that really stings. We’re going to keep our heads up and focus on Las Vegas, where I can return to a track that I’ve previously raced at.”

Thad Moffitt, No. 43 STP Chevrolet Silverado RST – Reaume Brothers Racing

    START: 34TH

    FINISH: 18TH

    POINTS: 18TH

Quote: “I really learned a lot about my truck today. My guys never gave up all night, and the adjustments that they made continued to help make our truck better and better throughout the race. Just when I had thought that I had positioned myself in the right place there, the big one happened, and I had nowhere to go. Somehow, we were able to keep racing, and it ended up with what I would consider to be a pretty decent finish with all things considered. I’m thankful to have made my debut at Daytona and am looking forward to my next truck race!”
