    Notes of Interest:

Settled In: In February, Young’s Motorsports announced that Mason Massey will compete full-time in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series this season aboard the team’s flagship, No. 02 Chevrolet Silverado RST, which will continue with Saturday afternoon’s Toyota 200 at World Wide Technology (Ill.) Raceway at Gateway.

Massey arrived at Young’s Motorsports after running a limited NASCAR Xfinity Series schedule last season for SS-GreenLight Racing, including a top-10 performance at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

The Douglasville, Ga. native started his 2023 Truck Series season with Reaume Brothers Racing and competed in seven races with a season-high 11th place finish at Texas Motor Speedway, but later shifted his presence to Xfinity for five races throughout the 33-race season.

About Mason: Massey has over 20 years of experience behind the wheel, launching his racing career at age five. Since then, he has garnered over 200 feature wins, 11 championships, and 10 track records across multiple series, including the U.S. Legends Pro National Championship.

Amongst the many Late Model victories to Massey’s credit during his tenure in the Bill Elliott Racing Development Program is the 2012 triumph in the Alabama 200. He eventually graduated to NASCAR in 2019, competing in the Truck Series before advancing to the Xfinity Series in 2020.

After part-time Xfinity stints in 2020 and 2021, respectively, the Georgian captured the attention of many with an impressive sixth-place finish in the spring 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series contest at Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway in front of the hometown crowd.

With 43 more NASCAR starts to his resume since his first career NASCAR top-10 effort, Massey has landed with Young’s Motorsports, a longtime fixture in the Truck Series, hoping to impress and land the organization back in Victory Lane this season.

All-Aboard!: For the 12th of 23 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series races this season, BRUNT Workwear returns to serve as the primary marketing partner on the No. 02 Chevrolet Silverado RST for the 160-lap race on Saturday.

BRUNT is a brand here to redefine everyday work gear for blue-collar workers and everyday guys that have never had the convenience, pricing, or quality available to them from traditional brands.

Founded by Eric Girouard, BRUNT aims to support the American workers through their work day by delivering the tools you wear to get the job done.

Longtime Massey supporter Anderson Power Systems will also serve as an associate partner for the series’ lone trip to The Prairie State.

Anderson Power Services specializes in supplying, installing, repairing, and replacing residential and commercial generators all throughout Georgia, Florida, Alabama and South Carolina.

Mason Massey Truck Series World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway Stats: Saturday afternoon’s Toyota 200 will mark Massey’s first Truck Series start at the iconic 1.25-mile Illinois oval.

The NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series is crossing the halfway point of its 2024 season with a stop in the Midwest. There, they will join the NASCAR Cup Series for their lone trip to World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway this year.

During his short Truck Series career, Massey’s average finish is 21.2 in 12 speedway races with tracks measuring one to two miles in length.

Mason Massey Truck Series Career Stats: Entering Gateway, Massey has 25 career NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series races to his credit. He has earned a career-best 11th-place finish twice, most recently at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway after starting 29th in the Long John Silver’s 200 for Young’s Motorsports.

Massey also finished 11th at Texas Motor Speedway after starting 27th in the 2023 edition of the SpeedyCash.com 250 for Reaume Brothers Racing.

Since 2019, he has carried an average finish of 23.8.

Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway | North Carolina Education Lottery 200 Race Recap: In the 11th race of the 2024 Truck Series season, Young’s Motorsports and Massey searched for another solid finish at the famed Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway.

In the lone Truck Series start at the 1.5-mile speedway, Massey was able to hustle forward from his 29th place qualifying effort. While wrestling with the handling of his No. 02 Young’s Building System’s Chevrolet Silverado RST, the constant adjustments from the crew chief allowed the truck to come to life when it counted most.

In the third and final stage, Massey was able to conservatively climb the leaderboard and utilized a late-race restart to his advantage – climbing to 18th at the checkered flag.

The finish allowed Massey to maintain a spot inside the top 25 in the championship standings in 23rd with 12 races remaining.

In 2024, Massey has delivered two top-15, five top-20s, seven top-21 finishes and eight top-22 efforts, highlighted by a career-best outing at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, where he steered the team’s flagship truck to an 11th-place finish.

Young’s Motorsports’ NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway: This weekend will mark Young’s Motorsports’ 21st NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series start at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway.

The organization posted a team-best 11th-place finish at the track on June 23, 2018, with Xfinity Series winner Austin Hill at the wheel in the 2018 Villa Lighting Delivers the Eaton 200.

Since 2014, the Mooresville, N.C.-based Young’s Motorsports team has had an average starting position of 22.3 and an average finish of 19.8 in 20 World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway starts overall.

Thad Moffitt and Faction46 Ready to Get Back on Track

Induction Innovations to Celebrate 25th Anniversary with Special Scheme

SALISBURY, N.C. (May 30, 2024) — In what has been a disappointing past two races, Thad Moffitt and the Faction46 team are ready to get back on track. Through no fault of his own, Moffitt and the team were collected in an accident at the Charlotte Motor Speedway and the team did not have the speed they needed at the North Wilkesboro Speedway.

They hope to turn their fortune around this weekend at the World Wide Technology (WWT) Raceway located just outside St. Louis. And in doing so, give Induction Innovations their best results to date. Before Charlotte and North Wilkesboro, Moffitt had rolled off two top-25 finishes including an 18th-place result at the tough Darlington Raceway.

“We had momentum after Kansas and Darlington,” said Moffitt. “We were starting to build that momentum that you need during this five week stretch of races. Then it just ended, and now we need to close this current string of races with a good finish.

“We have made the crew chief change, and we had better speed. We just had a difficult day at North Wilkesboro and the big wreck at Charlotte. So, we are in a little slump that we need to get out of.”

Faciton46 will look to return to a strong finish with Induction Innovations on the No. 46 Chevrolet Silverado this weekend. This will be a home race for the company that is headquartered just outside Chicago, Illinois and will be celebrating their 25th anniversary with a special paint scheme on the No. 46 Silverado.

Induction Innovations tools are designed to solve problems such as removing stuck or corroded parts and adhesives in a faster, safer, and more precise way than using an open flame torch. Tom Gough, Founder and President, developed the first Inductor Series model in 2000 after being inspired to invent the tools after 28 years in collision repair and seeing the many time-consuming processes found in the vehicle and equipment repair industry.

“It’s just great to have the support as I go through my rookie season,” said Moffitt. “We cannot do this without the support of Induction Innovations and I want to thank them for being on the truck this weekend. We owe them a good finish and that is the goal.”

Moffitt is also ready for the challenge of the flat WWT Raceway. He has one top-10 at the track in the ARCA Series in 2019.

“It has been a few years, but I really enjoy WWT Raceway” continued Moffitt. “During the day, it is really slick and these trucks slide around. So, it is all about having grip and good drive in the sweeping turns. It is a really fun track and challenge. I am looking forward to everything this weekend can bring.”

Faction46 and Moffitt will race the 160-lap event this Saturday at 1:30 p.m. ET on FS1.

    About Faction46

Competing in their first season in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, Faction46 is focused on building speed and maintaining a family atmosphere with driver Thad Moffitt. The new Faction46 team can be found online at www.faction46.com and on social media on Twitter (@TeamFaction46), Instagram (@TeamFaction46), TikTok (@TeamFaction46), and on Facebook and YouTube.

The Truck series will kick off the weekend with practice and qualifying on Friday, May 31st at 6:00 p.m. ET. Saturday’s event is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. ET and will be televised live on FS1. Fans can also listen in on the action from the Motor Racing Network and Sirius XM channel 90.

No. 38 Infinity Communications Group Ford F-150:

    DRIVER LAYNE RIGGS:

“Everything seems to be clicking for us these past couple weeks, we just can’t seem to make it to the end of the race without something going wrong. I’m not worried, though. Dylan (Cappello) and the team have been working day and night to bring speed to the track, and I am confident they will continue to, it’s just a matter of staying out of trouble and getting the results we want.”

    CREW CHIEF DYLAN CAPPELLO:

“We’re entering the summer stretch in a pretty good spot. Layne (Riggs) is starting to consistently fight within the Top-10, it’s just a matter of getting this bad luck off our back. We’ve shown that we belong up front, we just need to continue to bring fast Ford F-150s and execute on all fronts.”

  • Clint Bowyer to Pilot Spire Motorsports No. 7 NCTS Entry at Nashville Superspeedway

Clint Bowyer to Pilot Spire Motorsports No. 7 NCTS Entry at Nashville Superspeedway

Emporia, Kansas Native to Reunite with Crew Chief Brian Pattie

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (May 29, 2024) – One of NASCAR’s most engaging personalities and 16-year Cup Series veteran Clint Bowyer will pilot Spire Motorsports No. 7 Chevrolet Silverado in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series (NCTS) Rackley Roofing 200 at Nashville Superspeedway.

Bowyer, who retired from full-time NASCAR Cup Series (NCS) competition following the 2020 season finale at Phoenix Raceway, is currently an analyst for NASCAR on FOX. He is a 10-time NCS race winner who also boasts three NCTS checkered flags.

The 44-year-old will reconnect with crew chief Brian Pattie who guided Bowyer’s NCS efforts from 2012-2015. Pattie led the affable racer to three wins in 2012 and ultimately a runner-up finish in the NCS championship point standings when the potent duo was paired together at Michael Waltrip Racing (MWR).

“For me, it’s the tie between working with (Brian) Pattie and the good old days,” said Bowyer. “Putting the band back together, so to speak, and having some fun. Nashville is a cool racetrack that has meant a lot to me over the years. Separate from that, it’s about the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series. That’s a really fun series. It’s a fun vehicle to drive. There’s a lot of drag and you can drive them hard and get away with it. You can really hustle a truck. This race should be right in my wheelhouse.”

Bowyer made his second career NASCAR Xfinity Series start at the 1.33-mile oval in 2004 tallied nine total starts from 2004 – 2008. The Emporia, Kan., native has one win over those nine starts and parlayed those efforts into an uber-impressive 2.8 average finish on NASCAR’s junior circuit.

“Nashville means a lot to me. Fate is the only thing that I can attribute to this opportunity coming about,” Bowyer added. “My career in NASCAR happened because of Nashville. My first race win in NASCAR was at Nashville. It takes me back to my first ARCA race in 2003. I’ve always raced well there. Not to put pressure on myself, but I have. I’ve never finished outside the top five at Nashville Superspeedway, and I think I’ve got close to a second-place average finish. That doesn’t necessarily mean anything but what’s important is the opportunity to get back together and work with Brian Pattie. I had so much fun racing with him during the MWR days. We about won a championship together.”

In 14 NCTS starts from 2006 – 2016, Bowyer recorded two pole positions, three wins, nine top-five and 10 top-10 finishes. While he hasn’t competed in a NASCAR sanctioned event since dropping the window net for the final time in November 2020, Bowyer made three Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) starts last season and while winless, was a threat for the win in each outing.

“I’ll have one run on a set of tires to knock the rust off and then I’ll have to go qualify,” said Bowyer. “It’s going to be a pretty important lap to start up front and have a shot at winning. It has been so long, so I’ll have to get reacquainted with the track a little bit. I feel like I can get the fundamentals back pretty quickly. I ran those SRX races last year and I was pretty quick right off that bat. I actually surprised myself. I had a ton of fun and was competitive.

After 11 races, the No. 7 team sits fifth in the 2024 NCTS owner point standings after earning two wins and compiling five top-five and seven top-10 finishes. Kyle Busch earned the team’s first victory of 2024 at Atlanta Motor Speedway and led a race-high 112 laps in Busch’s most recent triumph in Texas. Last weekend, Connor Mosack started seventh and finished eighth at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Given their history and past success, it’s no wonder Pattie is looking forward to the reunion.

“Clint and I had a lot of success winning races and coming close to a Cup Series championship, so it’ll be a lot of fun to work with him again,” said Pattie. “We’ve been trying to get him in one of our trucks since early last year, so I’m excited to see it finally come together and I’m confident that we can go out and compete for the win.”

The Rackley Roofing 200 from Nashville Superspeedway will be televised live on FS2 Friday, June 28, beginning at 8 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The 13th of 23 NCTS races on the 2024 schedule will be broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90.

“Having Clint Bowyer drive our No. 7 at Nashville Superspeedway just demonstrates how committed Spire Motorsports is to having a true all-star lineup in that truck,” said Spire Motorsports president Doug Duchardt. “Clint is part of an exclusive club of drivers who have won in the Truck Series, Xfinity Series and Cup Series. When you see his track record at Nashville, it almost makes you shake your head. It’s pretty incredible. He’s a great personality and, as Brian (Pattie) well knows, he’s a lot of fun. We’re grateful to have him and we think he gives us a great shot at winning the race.”

    About Spire Motorsports …
Spire Motorsports is a NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series race team co-owned by long-time NASCAR industry executives Jeff Dickerson and Thaddeus “T.J.” Puchyr. In 2024, Spire Motorsports will campaign the Nos. 7, 71 and 77 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1s in the NASCAR Cup Series with drivers Corey LaJoie, Zane Smith and Carson Hocevar, respectively. The team will also field the Nos. 7, 71 and 77 Chevrolet Silverados full time in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series. An all-star driver lineup will rotate throughout the 2024 season in the No. 7 Chevy. Rajah Caruth will drive the No. 71 entry and Chase Purdy rounds out the team’s fleet of Chevrolets in the No. 77.

Spire Motorsports earned its inaugural NASCAR Cup Series victory in its first full season of competition when Justin Haley took the checkered flag in the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway on July 7, 2019. Less than three years later, William Byron drove Spire Motorsports’ No. 7 Chevrolet Silverado to its inaugural NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series win on April 7, 2022, at Martinsville Speedway. The team’s most recent win came on April 12, 2024, when Kyle Busch took the checkered flag in the SpeedyCash.com 250 at Texas Motor Speedway.

No. 41 DQS Solutions & Staffing Chevrolet Silverado RST
Driver: Bayley Currey | Crew Chief: Mike Hillman, Jr.
    Bayley Currey
    @BayleyCurrey
    @BayleyCurrey05

    • Currey’s Gateway Stats: Bayley Currey has made one prior start at WWT Raceway which came in last year’s Truck Series event. Currey qualified 11th for that race and finished 17th after a late-race spin.
    • Hillman’s Gateway Stats: Mike Hillman, Jr. has called 13 NCTS races at Gateway before, posting a total of four top-fives and nine top-10 finishes. Hillman has scored one victory here with Germain Racing’s Todd Bodine in 2006, and most recently finished 17th with Currey last year.
    • On the Truck: Currey’s No. 41 Chevrolet Silverado RST will race with support from DQS Solutions & Staffing along with Masked Owl Technologies. Gateway will be the first race for both of these partners as co-primary sponsors this season. DQS is the parent company of Foundation for Pops, which was on Currey’s truck last race in Charlotte.
    • Recapping Charlotte: Bayley Currey and the No. 41 team fired off well after securing a top-10 starting position in Charlotte. Currey would hold his track position through stage one where he finished 11th, but dropped to 17th in stage two following an unscheduled return to pit road. In the final stage, Currey sustained heavy damage when a competitor blew a tire directly in front of the No. 41 Foundation for Pops Chevrolet, hindering his competitiveness. He finished the race in the 26th position.
    • Points Rundown: Following Currey’s 26th-place result in Charlotte, he dropped one position in points, now shown in 16th. He is 20 points behind his nearest competitor, Chase Purdy, in 15th place, and 75 points below the Playoffs cutline.
    • Quoting Currey: Do you use shifting to your advantage here as an offensive or defensive move?

“I think shifting is just something that you have to do here, really. You slow down so much in turns one and two that you can use that option. Depending on where you downshift, you can change the balance of what your truck’s doing. If you’re tight, you can downshift earlier to get the rotation through the center. If you’re on a long run like how we had last year, you can shift in turns three and four as well. It’s a good tool for the drivers to use.”

    • Quoting Hillman: With how much clean air means at Gateway, could we see any two-tire stops throughout the race?

“I think Gateway is a place that gives you the option to short pit or get off-sequence. Two-tire stops might have to be an option to consider, and looking at how some of the past races have been won here, I’d say it’s not a bad option at all. We’ll just have to look at where we’re running throughout the day and see if that is a risk worth taking for us. We need to make up some points, so it’ll be something to pay attention to and see what strategy option works best for us.”

    • Mills’ Gateway Stats: Matt Mills has made one prior start at WWT Raceway which came in last year’s Truck Series event. Mills qualified 29th, and made up 10 spots to finish 19th in the race.
    • Leonard’s Gateway Stats: Jon Leonard has made a pair of starts on top of the box at Gateway before, both of which came while working with Stewart Friesen. In both races (2021 and 2022), Friesen brought his truck home with a fourth-place finish.
    • On the Truck: Mills’ No. 42 Chevrolet Silverado RST will race with support from longtime partners J.F. Electric and Utilitra.
    • J.F. Electric’s Home Race: Mills’ primary sponsor, J.F. Electric, calls the St. Louis region its home base. Located just over 15 minutes from the racetrack in Edwardsville, IL, J.F. Electric will host a large contingent of its employees at the race on Saturday. On Thursday, Mills will visit the company’s headquarters for an employee day showcasing the the No. 42 race hauler.
    • Welcoming New Partners: The bedtop of Mills’ No. 42 truck this week will feature two new partners that are local to WWT Raceway. Moussalli’s Prime, a well-known steakhouse in Edwardsville, IL, will be branded alongside Lux Nova Laser Studio, a beauty salon also located in Edwardsville.
    • Mills Secures Best-Career Finish at Charlotte: Matt Mills and the No. 42 team put forth a great effort in Charlotte. Mills started the race from 15th, and quietly finished in 18th position at the conclusion of stage one and two. The team came alive late in the going of stage three, and following a late-race pitstop, Mills rocketed into the top-five. Where he initially crossed the line fifth, a disqualification was made through tech inspection. Mills would later be classified in the fourth position, which is his best-career finish in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series.
    • Points Rundown: With Mills’ fourth-place finish at Charlotte, he continued his four-race streak of gaining one spot in the points standings. Entering the 12th race of the season, Mills sits in 24th position, seven points behind Mason Massey in 23rd. He is currently 27 points behind Ty Dillon which would break him into the top-20.
    • Quoting Mills: With it being a home race for your sponsors, how much emphasis do you put on running well at Gateway specifically?

“Gateway is definitely a big race for us. J.F. Electric is on our truck all year, but this is a race that they go all-out with on the hospitality aspect. All the men and women that are their employees really want to see their truck run well in their backyard, so we’ve been putting a lot of time in the sim to prepare for it. For us, it’s one of the biggest races of the year.”

    • Quoting Leonard: What makes Gateway such a difficult track to set your truck up for?

“I like to think of this track as being pretty similar to Darlington in that both ends are so different, but there’s not as much tire falloff here. You can shift, but you don’t have to. It’s a big flat track, and a big short track. I think getting the truck to turn on the flat end will be important. I think our short track package is pretty good, so we’ll stick to that and roll with it.”

No. 45 Chevy Accessories Chevrolet Silverado RST
Driver: Connor Mosack | Crew Chief: Phil Gould

    • Mosack Returns: Rookie Connor Mosack returns to Niece Motorsports for the second start of his part-time schedule in the No. 45 Chevrolet. Mosack last drove for the team at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, where he finished in 19th. He has also spent time driving for Spire Motorsports in the No. 7 Silverado RST, and plans to make sporadic NASCAR Xfinity Series starts for JR Motorsports later this year. The driver from Charlotte, NC has made a handful of ARCA Menards Series starts this season for Pinnacle Racing Group and recently secured his second-career victory at Kansas Speedway. He competes full-time in the Trans Am National Championship for Silver Hare Racing.
    • Mosack’s Gateway Stats: Connor Mosack will make his first NASCAR Truck Series start at WWT Raceway on Saturday. Though this will be his first start on the oval, Mosack has raced before on Gateway’s road course layout. Three weeks ago, Mosack finished sixth in the Trans Am TA2 event held on the 2.0-mile course.
    • Gould’s Gateway Stats: Phil Gould has called five NASCAR Truck Series races at WWT Raceway, resulting in four top-10 finishes. In 2019, Gould navigated Ross Chastain to victory lane at the 1.25-mile track, marking Niece Motorsports’ second NCTS win. Last season, while working with Carson Hocevar, Gould’s No. 42 team finished in fourth position here.
    • On the Truck: Mosack’s No. 45 Chevrolet Silverado RST will race with support from Chevy Accessories. Visit chevy.com/accessories to browse the latest accessories to personalize and enhance your vehicle.
    • Recapping Charlotte: Kaden Honeycutt and the No. 45 team experienced a roller coaster-like eventful day at Charlotte. In practice, Honeycutt damaged the right side of his truck after contact with another competitor. The crew repaired the truck well enough to qualify in the top-10, and after starting ninth, he began to march to the front. Honeycutt would make it up to second at the end of stage one (later credited with the win), and backed up the performance with a fourth-place run in stage two. Issues on pit road forced Honeycutt to the rear of the field on two occasions, but he was able to rally back to a seventh-place finish.
    • Mosack’s Best-Career Finish: While driving for Spire Motorsports at Charlotte last week, Mosack earned his best-career finish in the CRAFTSMAN Truck Series with an eighth-place run. The result was his first top-10 in just his fifth start in the series.
    • Owner Points Outlook: Honeycutt’s strong outing in Charlotte resulted in two positions gained for the No. 45 team in the owner points standings. The team currently sits seventh, seven points behind TRICON Garage’s No. 17 team. With Chastain’s win in Darlington, the truck is locked into the owner points Playoffs.
    • Quoting Mosack: What are some of the benefits and challenges of racing for two different teams in the Truck Series?

“I think the challenges come from the fact that once you’re getting into the rhythm of how one team operates, that stops, and you have to give yourself a restart with the other team. You feel like you still have the momentum in the series with the trucks, but each team does things a little differently. The communication changes and some of the small details make a difference. I think full-time drivers have the advantage of gaining speed by keeping in that rhythm with everybody. The crew chief knows exactly what they’re asking for and vise-versa. Some of the benefits are learning what each team does that the other team doesn’t do. You can apply the differences whether that be through prep or debrief after the race, so there’s definitely some benefits as well.”

    • Quoting Gould: How difficult is it to rotate through different drivers on a weekly basis in the No. 45 truck?

“It’s hard, but it’s probably harder on the drivers since our team is racing every week, no matter who’s driving. We have a bit of a unique situation on the No. 45 team with having these drivers hop in-and-out of the truck and the series as a whole. So from that aspect, it’s harder on them to get up-to-speed if they’re not used to driving the truck every week. I’ve gotten used to all of them now, but it’s all about finding out their personalities and what suits them best so we can give them the most comfortable feel out there.”

  • “FIVE THINGS TO WATCH” AT TOYOTA 200 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN TRUCK SERIES RACE

“FIVE THINGS TO WATCH” AT TOYOTA 200 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN TRUCK SERIES RACE

    • Nick Sanchez continues recent hot streak with last week’s win at Charlotte.
    • Toyota 200 will serve as second leg of the Triple Truck Challenge.

MADISON, Ill. (May 28, 2024) – The NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series Toyota 200 returns for a third consecutive season paired with the NASCAR Cup Series as the trucks make their 24th visit overall to World Wide Technology Raceway.

The CRAFTSMAN Truck Series officially kicks off the on-track action Friday for the NASCAR doubleheader weekend with practice and qualifying for the Toyota 200. The trucks open with a 20-minute practice at 5:05 p.m. CT and the session will be followed by single-truck, one-lap qualifying beginning at 5:35 p.m.

The CRAFTSMAN Truck Series visit culminates with the Toyota 200 at 12:30 p.m. Saturday (TV: FOX, Radio: MRN, SiriusXM) for a 160-lap, 200-mile race.

This season’s Toyota 200 will mark the 11th season in a row that the NCTS has competed at the 1.25-mile oval. The CRAFTSMAN Truck Series initially competed at WWT Raceway from 1998-2010 and returned after a three-year absence in 2014.

The Toyota 200 is the 12th race of the 23-event CRAFTSMAN Truck Series season and several storylines have developed as the series crosses the season midpoint.

Here’s “Five Things To Watch” for the Toyota 200:

    1. Rev Racing’s Nick Sanchez, coming off a victory last week at Charlotte Motor Speedway, heads into the Toyota 200 as one of the hottest drivers in the CRAFTSMAN Truck Series.

The victory was his sixth consecutive finish among the top seven and that run has vaulted him to third in the points standings, 50 behind leader Christian Eckes of McAnally-Hilgemann Racing. During this torrid stretch, four of those finishes have been among the top four and the 22-year-old Miami, Fla. native also added pole positions at Texas Motor Speedway and Darlington Raceway.

Sanchez, the 2023 CRAFTSMAN Truck Series Rookie of the Year, opened his sophomore campaign in grand fashion by earning his first series victory in the season-opening race at Daytona International Speedway. Through the first 11 races, his average starting position is 8.55 and average finishing position is 7.36.

    1. Corey Heim missed last season’s Toyota 200 at World Wide Technology Raceway due to illness, but the 21-year-old TRICON Garage driver enjoyed an impressive performance in his one and only appearance at the 1.25-mile oval.

The start came in 2022 driving part-time for Kyle Busch Motorsports in just his second year. Heim won the pole and led 20 laps en route to his second career win.

He arrives this time around a championship contender as a result of a dominant start to the season. In the first 11 races, he owns a series-leading three wins (Circuit of The Americas, Kansas, North Wilkesboro) and ranks first in the series for top-five finishes (7), stage wins (4) and playoff points (19). He ranks second in the NCTS points standings, trailing Eckes by 30 points.

    1. World Wide Technology Raceway is part of the CRAFTSMAN Truck Series’ Triple Truck Challenge for the fifth time in the last six seasons. “The Trip” was created in 2019 to provide an opportunity for series regulars to compete for bonus money, including as much as $500,000.

The Triple Truck Challenge is a three-race format that began last week at Charlotte Motor Speedway, continues with Friday’s Toyota 200 at World Wide Technology Raceway and concludes Friday, June 28 at Nashville Superspeedway. Eligible drivers who have elected to earn series championship points will receive a $50,000 bonus for one win. If a driver wins two out of the three races, they will be awarded $150,000. If a driver wins all three Triple Truck Challenge races, a $500,000 prize will be awarded.

Nick Sanchez won the opening race this season at Charlotte Motor Speedway and will be chasing a $150,000 bonus at WWT Raceway. Last season, the Triple Truck Challenge produced three different winners, including Grant Enfinger at WWT Raceway.

    1. Stewart Friesen of Halmar Friesen Racing is winless in six appearances at World Wide Technology Raceway, but keep an eye on him in the Toyota 200.

Of those six starts, five have resulted in top-five finishes, including a best of third on two occasions (2019, ’23). His only performance outside of the top five was a 13th-place finish in his first start at WWTR in 2018.

    1. Winning the CRAFTSMAN Truck Series race at WWT Raceway over the past decade has served as a driver forecast of being elevated to the NASCAR Cup Series.

Beginning with Bubba Wallace in 2014,  four of the 10 winners have gone on to a current Cup Series ride. Wallace, who drives for 23XI Racing, is joined on the Cup level by Joe Gibbs Racing’s Christopher Bell (2016 winner), Legacy Motor Club’s John Hunter Nemechek (’17) and Rick Ware Racing’s Justin Haley (’18).

Overall, six of the 10 have competed at least a full season on the Cup level. Cole Custer (’15), the defending NASCAR Xfinity Series champion, competed in Cup for Stewart-Haas Racing from 2020-22. Trackhouse Racing’s Ross Chastain was running a full NCTS season when he won at WWT Raceway in ’19, but already was in his second full Cup season with owner Jay Robinson.

That trend could bode well in the future for the last three winners – Sheldon Creed (2020, ’21), Heim (2022) and Enfinger (2023).

In The Nick Of Time: Sanchez Cashes In At NC Education Lottery 200

CONCORD, N.C. (May 24, 2024) — Nick Sanchez never led in the first 125 laps of Friday’s North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, but he was out front when it mattered most.

Sanchez took the lead on Lap 126 after the race’s final restart, then held off Corey Heim for the last nine laps to capture his second career NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series win and his first at Charlotte.

Heim won Stages 1 and 2 en route to leading a race-high 72 of 134 laps, but issues with the jack on his final pit stop forced Heim to have to carve his way to the front. He initially finished the night one position shy of his fourth victory of the year, but Heim was disqualified shortly after the race’s conclusion due to having three loose lug nuts in post-race inspection.

Stewart Friesen was promoted to second, his best result of the year. Grant Enfinger, Matt Mills and Ben Rhodes completed the top five with Jake Garcia sixth and Kaden Honeycutt seventh. Connor Mosack, Dean Thompson and Christian Eckes rounded out the top 10.

Eckes sustained damage in Friday’s practice session and started 35th due to not posting a qualifying time, but he found himself in the lead on the race’s final restart. Worn tires were no match for the trucks behind Eckes, though. Eckes led 37 laps Friday before having to settle for 10th.

Sanchez’s victory earned the second-year Truck Series driver a $50,000 bonus for capturing the first leg of the series’ Triple Truck Challenge.

NICK SANCHEZ, NO. 2 Rev Racing CHEVROLET (RACE WINNER): “We started off the race, I don’t want to say horrible, but we were horrible. Last year I was one of the fastest trucks and tonight, I was pretty close to the same, but we started off wrecking loose. We drove from like 23rd to ninth, I don’t know if I had anything for (Heim, if he was still out front), but I was a second- or third-place truck. Good track position, fresh tires and some adjustments just fixed me up. We had a tight race with (Heim) obviously, but mirror driving was the name of the game.”

STEWART FRIESEN, NO. 52 HALMAR FRIESEN RACING TOYOTA (RUNNER-UP): “I’m proud of the whole Halmar Friesen team. These guys have been working really, really hard. We’ve obviously got some work to do on our body stuff. It’s tough. We’re learning as we go. We’re good in clean air, obviously, we qualify good, we just can’t run good in the pack. I’m just proud of my team. We’re a small group compared to most, but we’re learning pit stop to pit stop. We made some good calls to get this thing fightable at the end.”

    Finish: 26th
    Driver Points: 16th
    Owner Points: 20th

    • Key Takeaway: Bayley Currey and the No.
    • Bayley Currey’s Post-Race Thoughts: “We had a really, really good Foundation for Pops / DQS Chevy Silverado tonight. Some restarts didn’t go our way which set us behind, and had some issues on pit road which put us in a bad spot. The No. 88 blew a right front tire right in front of us – not his doing, not his fault, but we were just in the wrong place in the wrong time. Ended up hitting the back of him, tore the nose off, got in the wall, and knocked the toe off. Really tough night for us; we had a top-10 truck no doubt, but that’s just the way it goes sometimes. We’ll move onto Gateway.”

    • Key Takeaway: Matt Mills and the No. 42 team put forth a great effort in Charlotte that resulted in them earning their best finish of the season. The team came alive late in the going of stage three, and following a late-race pitstop, Mills rocketed into the top-five. Mills would later be classified in the fourth position, which is his best-career finish in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series.
    • Matt Mills’ Post-Race Thoughts: “We should have been having those runs all year long, but it’s been a little bit of a learning curve with a new team and being in a competitive situation each and every week. It’s taken a little bit longer than we had liked to get a top-five run like this, but at this moment, it feels like a win, so that’s good.”

Interviewer: First top-five of the season, you know what the Niece trucks are capable of. Did that give you confidence going into tonight?

“Yeah, I mean for sure. They had a good history last year, but I needed confidence for myself. I just needed to go out and do it myself and get some runs that we could build off of. I felt like at Darlington, we were able to have a top-10 truck and actually go out there and showcase what we can do. Now we can run top-five, so we’ll keep grinding on it and take this as baby steps. We’ve just got to keep growing and going at it.”

I can’t thank Phil (Gould), Cody (Efaw), and Al (Niece) enough for the opportunity to race for this Niece Motorsports team. I’m gutted that we weren’t able to pull off the win after coming so close, but I know there are so many positives to take away from here. Stuff happens, and while I wish the result was better, I can walk away knowing how much speed we have. My guys never quit working on it. We had a wrecked truck in practice and had to go to the back twice tonight, and still came home with a top-10. FRIESEN DELIVERS SEASON-BEST RESULT IN CHARLOTTE
Corey Heim’s strong performance ends in a disqualification due to three lugnuts found to not be safe and secure

CHARLOTTE (May 24, 2024) – Stewart Friesen had a stellar finish this evening as he was scored second in the NASCAR Truck Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, while Dean Thompson scored his second top-10 finish of the day, as he finished ninth on the eve of his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut.

Corey Heim led 72 of 134 laps and won both stages but had to battle through multiple issues on pit road in the last stage of the Truck Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The Toyota Development Driver fell all the way to 28th at one point before battling his way through the field. However, his valiant efforts ended in disqualification after his Tundra was found to have three lugnuts not safe and secure in post-race inspection.

Tanner Gray had a stellar day as well, winning his second pole and scoring his first ARCA win. Gray had a solid race – picking up 19 stage points before a late race near-spin dropped him to 17th in the final running order.

STEWART FRIESEN, No. 52 Halmar International Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, Halmar Friesen Racing

    Finishing Position: 2nd

How much confidence does this give you?

“Jimmy (Villeneuve) made a good call to pit there, and pit early and then we had that quick caution. I’m like, man, we will see how good we really are. We’ve been fighting dirty air all year. We got some clean air on this Halmar Tundra TRD Pro, and this thing runs pretty good – just sucks in the pack. We will keep building our notebook, and see if we can make our stuff better.”

DEAN THOMPSON, No. 5 Thompson Pipe Group Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, TRICON Garage

    Finishing Position: 9th

Top-10’s in both races today, before your Xfinity Series debut tomorrow. Can you talk about today and what you are looking forward to tomorrow?

“Finishing ninth tonight felt a lot more rewarding than finishing top-10 in ARCA. I think we had a car to win both, but just strategy didn’t fall our way in the Truck race and we salvaged a ninth-place. Happy with that. In the ARCA race, we had a bunch of issues, and probably had a car to win if we didn’t have those issues – but fought all day long, and salvaged a top-10. Pretty funny how those two are different. I feel alright. I little worn out. I’m going to go home, sleep and go do some recovery work in the morning, and then it’s time to finish the 650 (miles).”

COREY HEIM, No. 11 Safelite Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, TRICON Garage

Finishing Position: 36th (originally 2nd, disqualified after three lugnuts found to not be safe and secure in post-race inspection)

What could you have done differently?

“Obviously, an eventful day for us. Just, I feel like it got away from us on separate occasions there. We had control of the race and as soon as you don’t, we were just victim to the leader. He can control the air, and Nick (Sanchez) did a great job at blocking my air the best he could. Props to him – he did a great job. I thought we had the best truck by a long shot, just behind the leader you couldn’t do much. I feel like we were able to get through traffic so well. I’m glad we could make it entertaining at least, but it really doesn’t matter when you finish second. Huge thank you to TRICON Garage for this bullet. I feel like we were so good today. Safelite, Toyota Racing – just super disappointing to say the least.”

Truck chief Chris Showalter to make 700th start in the series

Concord, NC – As the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS) waves the green flag at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Friday night’s North Carolina Education Lottery 200, there will be one individual who will check the box on race number 700.

Chris Showalter “Showie”, truck chief on the No. 2 Gainbridge Chevrolet, has been working in the NCTS since the inaugural race on Feb. 5, 1995 at Phoenix Raceway.

“It’s hard to believe this will be race number 700,” said Showalter. “I think it has been the community of people that I have worked with over the years that keeps me coming back season after season. These people have truly become family. It’s easy to come to work and go to battle everyday when you are with your best friends.”

Showalter started off his career with the Ohio-based Liberty Racing and driver Butch Miller in 1995. He excelled quickly by being a truck chief, moving to ThorSport Racing for a year before making the move to North Carolina to work for Joe Gibbs Racing and drivers J.D. and Coy Gibbs.

Showalter also served as the truck chief for Travis Kvapil’s 2003 championship-winning season. He spent a good portion of his career at Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM). Showalter recalled this time at KBM as being some of the best moments in his career.

In 2023, Showalter car chiefed Nick Sanchez’s rookie year in the NCTS. Sanchez drove the No. 2 Gainbridge Chevrolet with Rev Racing who had a technical alliance with KBM. Showalter was a huge part of Sanchez’s rookie success, boasting 2 top 5s, 12 top 10’s and 5 poles.

He continued to work with Sanchez, in 2024, after the Spire Motorsports acquisition last year. In February, Sanchez, Showalter and team celebrated their first victory together at Daytona International Speedway in the 2024 NCTS opener. They are currently sitting 4th in points, with 5 top 5s, 7 top 10s and 2 poles.

“It was great starting off the season with a win,” said Nick Sanchez. “More importantly, it was a testament to how hard the team works to bring the best truck each week to the track. I am extremely lucky to work with and rely on Showie and the guys. His knowledge is vast and his experience is extremely beneficial to our race success. Cheers to 700 on a day that also happens to be his birthday. We are hopeful to celebrate in victory lane.”

Fans can catch practice for the 201-mile event at 1:35 PM ET on Friday, May 24th, followed by qualifying at 2:05 PM ET. The North Carolina Lottery 200 is set to kick off at 8:30 PM ET. Tune in to FS1, MRN, or Rev Racing’s social media channels for live coverage of the event.
