Toyota claims 12th Truck Series Manufacturer Championship

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (October 30, 2021) – For the seventh time in the last nine seasons, Toyota has won the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Manufacturer’s title. Toyota clinched the title a race before the conclusion of the 2021 season early on the strength of 14 in the first 21 events on the Truck Series schedule.

“The continued success of Toyota in the Truck Series is something we are very proud of,” said Paul Doleshal, Group Manager, Motorsports and Assets, Toyota Motor North America (TMNA). “We are excited to claim this title once again due to the hard work of our Tundra teams this season. Our veterans and young drivers have driven with poise and excellence, and we look forward watching them continue to battle for the driver’s championship as we close out this season.”

Toyota drivers have been dominating this season. Kyle Busch Motorsports driver John Hunter Nemechek leads all drivers with five victories, while team owner Busch has three wins of his own. ThorSport Racing’s Ben Rhodes drove to two wins at the start of the season – including Toyota’s 200th Truck Series victory at the Daytona International Speedway Road Course in February. Hattori Racing Enterprises’ Austin Hill also won two races in back-to-back fashion, while Kyle Busch Motorsports rookie Chandler Smith and ThorSport Racing’s Christian Eckes both earned their first-career victories.

    Since joining the series in 2004, Toyota has won 212 Truck Series races and captured 156 poles in 426 races. In addition to this year’s title, Toyota also claimed manufacturer championships in 2006 (12 wins); 2007 (13 wins); 2008 (13 wins); 2009 (14 wins); 2010 (15 wins); 2013 (13 wins); 2014 (18 wins), 2015 (14 wins), 2016 (14 wins), 2017 (12 wins) and 2019 (12 wins).

    TOYOTA QUOTES

AUSTIN HILL, No. 16 United Rentals Toyota Tundra, Hattori Racing Enterprises

    Finishing Position: 2nd

How would you describe your day?

“Eventful for sure. I felt like we really had to work on it all day. Our United Rentals Toyota Tundra was really fighting us at the start of the race. I lost some track position early. Just kept coming in and working on it and got it better. Did some really big adjustments. Scott (Zipadelli, crew chief) was being really aggressive with adjustments, which was really good. I felt like him and me worked really well together today on what I needed to make our Toyota Tundra better. We got it better there at the end. I didn’t think we had a shot at it in the end of the race and then all hell broke loose at the end and we were able to sneak by for a P2, which is what I needed here to build some confidence at this racetrack because in years past we haven’t been good here. First top-five for me here at Martinsville. I wanted it to stay green. I think me and the 21 (Zane Smith) could have raced down into three and four and who knows what could have happened if we had a shot at it. All-in-all, really solid effort. I really wanted to get a win for everybody at United Rentals since they were the title sponsor today, but just came up one short. We will build on it and when I come back here next year in the Xfinity Series, hopefully that gives me some confidence.”

MATT CRAFTON, No. 88 Black Label Bacon/Menards Toyota Tundra, ThorSport Racing

    Finishing Position: 5th

What was your side of the scuffle between you and Sheldon Creed?

“At the end of the day, I wasn’t going to wreck Sheldon (Creed). I did get in the back of the 98 (Grant Enfinger) because I wheel hopped getting in to turn one, just everyone trying to get in there and I ran in the back of the 98 and moved him up in to the 2 (Sheldon Creed), but we were fine after that point, but then we get down in three and four and my teammate drove through me just to retaliate because I got in the back of him. I understand where Sheldon is upset because he got moved up the race track, but I did not wreck Sheldon. I did not wreck him on purpose, did not wreck him at all. The 98 is the one who wrecked us off of four and ended up getting him eventually. At the end of the day, this Menards Toyota Tundra was pretty good today, just needed track position at the end.”

BEN RHODES, No. 99 Bombardier LearJet 75 Toyota Tundra, ThorSport Racing

    Finishing Position: 7th

How would you summarize the day?

“Crazy day even though I put all of my energy into not making it a crazy day, I mean people were beating my bumper off, I was letting them go, I was doing everything I could to not be like John Hunter (Nemechek) who, our fingers crossed he got in, but he was in a really bad spot to have to watch the whole race and I didn’t want that to happen to us. We did everything we could to get our stage points and get our Bombardier Tundra clean, but still, I had my blood pressure get up there at the end just trying to avoid the craziness. Yeah, it would have been nice to get a top five or chase a Grandfather clock, but we’re here for Phoenix and now this is my first time in the final four and I have a really good team behind me with ThorSport Racing and just really, really proud of their efforts all year. It comes down to one race now and I know we can do it.”

STEWART FRIESEN, No. 52 Halmar International Toyota Tundra, Halmar Friesen Racing

    Finishing Position: 17th

What did you think of everyone being that aggressive at the end of the race?

“I mean it always is everytime we are here. It’s bumper cars and that leads to cautions. It starts from the top down and that’s all you can do. You get leaned on and you lean on somebody back. I didn’t mean to wreck everyone at the end. I was just trying to lean back and protect my turf. It is what it is. It sucks that we didn’t make it farther to battle in Phoenix. Big thanks to Toyota and Halmar. We will be back here next year. Just crappy way to short track race, that’s all it is.”

JOHN HUNTER NEMECHEK, No. 4 Pye-Barker Fire & Safety Toyota Tundra, Kyle Busch Motorsports

    Finishing Position: 39th

What happened between you and Austin Wayne Self?

“I don’t know. He shouldn’t be out here if he’s just going to hook someone in the right rear and turn them in the fence. NASCAR should definitely look at that. It’s Playoff contention. You’ve got to have respect and he doesn’t. It is what it is. Hopefully we make it to the final four and we definitely will have something for them in Phoenix.”

Spencer Davis ready for Martinsville Speedway return

MARTINSVILLE, Va.: Set for his eighth NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) start of the season in Saturday afternoon’s United Rentals 200 at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, Spencer Davis has momentum on his side.

Davis returns to the seat of his No. 11 Spencer Davis Motorsports Toyota Tundra after Clay Greenfield steered the No. 11 Rackley Roofing Toyota at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, earlier this month a week after Davis himself wheeled a season-best 15th place finish at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway in late September.

Even though Las Vegas was more than a month ago, Davis, a native of Dawsonville, Ga. is clinging to the momentum highlighted by his Mooresville, N.C.-based team and eager to deliver another strong finish on a tight and treacherous, but historic short track.

“It seems like forever since I’ve been in a truck, but I am looking forward to Martinsville this weekend,” said Davis. “Short-track racing can be a lot of fun as a driver and a little nerve-racking as an owner but once I put that helmet on, I try to tune out the responsibilities of owning a race team and just focusing on representing our team well.”

This summer the Spencer Davis Motorsports team took a short sabbatical from competition in order to regroup and focus on the latter race of the 2021 NCWTS season. Davis said the team’s arduous work was rewarded with their Las Vegas finish and is hopeful there is more to come in the next two weeks.

“Las Vegas was exactly what we were hoping to accomplish when we took a break earlier this summer,” added Davis. “We know we have the components; we know we have the people and the equipment to fuse it all together, we just needed to take a step back to take three steps forward.

“We were poised to continue our uptick in performance at Talladega with Clay (Greenfield) behind the wheel, but even while at the front of the pack, he could not avoid the big one. Still, while we were disappointed with the finish – we were definitely encouraged by the performance knowing what kind of trucks we are bringing to the track and what as a company we are capable of.

“Hopefully, that continues on Saturday afternoon at Martinsville.”

Davis, 22, has two prior starts at the famed 0.526-mile short track, including a track-best of 20th in the spring of 2019. Last October in the NASCAR Hall of Fame 200, Davis battled brake issues and was relegated to the garage before the end of the race.

This year, Davis doesn’t plan to have history repeat itself.

“We had a pretty decent run going last fall at Martinsville, but if there’s a place not to have brakes, it’s not Martinsville. We feel like we have that problem conquered and we’re ready to get back in there and have another top-20 finish that will carry us to Phoenix and the checkered flag of the season.”
Spencer Davis Motorsports partner INOX Supreme Lubricants will also serve as a major partner for the 21st NCWTS race of the year.

INOX product range was first released in 1989 with the Original INOX MX3 Lubricant. The original MX3 product was in development stages for two years prior to release with testing and focus on creating the right product for the market.

The INOX product range continues to grow with 12 products on the market, each with their own many specialized qualities used in all different industries. All their products are tested and trialed before hitting the market to ensure the best of quality is maintained in the INOX name. INOX products are available at all major industrial, electrical, automotive, hardware, bearing and mining, marine, fishing and tackle outlets, plus many more locations.

A wholly owned Australian company Candan Industries is now exporting to over 25 countries including the United States of America, Canada, France, South Africa, New Zealand, Indonesia and Malaysia.

“Excited to have a long-time friendship turn into a season-long partnership with INOX Supreme Lubricants,” said Davis. “I can’t thank Angel and James at INOX enough for their continued support and partnership with our small team.

“We use their products day to day on our race team and in our machines at our business. A quality product and amazing people helped bring this all together. I hope we can continue our partnership with INOX for the 2022 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season.”

Based on metrics set by NASCAR without practice or qualifying, Davis will start 36th for the 200-lap race.

Melvin “Woody” Burns who started the year with SDM as car chief will continue in his new role as crew chief for the fifth consecutive NCWTS race.

Entering Martinsville, Davis, 22, has 30 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts to his credit with a career-best finish of seventh at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in Feb. 2018, with additional top-10s at Texas Motor Speedway (June 2018) and Kentucky Speedway (July 2019).

Following Martinsville, Spencer Davis Motorsports plans to compete in the season finale at Phoenix (Ariz.) Raceway for the Lucas Oil 150 on Fri., Nov. 5., 2021.

NASCAR CHEVROLET SILVERADO TO HAVE NEW LOOK IN 2022

DETROIT – The 2022 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will have a new Silverado on the track next season – the Silverado RST.

The production 2022 Silverado is a significantly updated version of the brand’s best-selling truck and one that offers customers more choices, more technology and more premium touches. The Silverado race truck sports the new front bumper and grille featured on every trim of the production Silverado, emphasizing the truck’s stability and strength with a wide, planted stance.

“The Silverado name means legendary performance both on and off the track, and the RST is the perfect example of that capability,” said Mark Sobczynski, Silverado Marketing manager. “With significant enhancements like a redesigned interior with standard 13.4-inch diagonal touchscreen, refreshed exterior and four different engine options, we’re excited for Chevy fans to experience the Silverado RST, regardless of whether they’re at the racetrack or their local dealership.”

“We’ve been racing the Silverado model exclusively in the NASCAR Truck Series since its inception in 1995,” said Dayne Pierantoni, Chevrolet Motorsports Program manager. “We’ve worked hard to enhance the features of the current race truck to continue to closely align with the production vehicle. We’re really looking forward to seeing our 2022 Silverado on-track in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series next season.”

Chevrolet Silverado has produced 256 victories – more than any other manufacturer in the NASCAR Truck series. The Silverado also has powered 10 Manufacturers Championships, including in 2020, and a series-leading 14 Drivers Championships, including Sheldon Creed’s win last year.

The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado RST will debut in February during Speedweeks at Daytona International Speedway.

  • Colby Howard returns to CR7 Motorsports at Martinsville Speedway

Colby Howard returns to CR7 Motorsports at Martinsville Speedway

MARTINSVILLE, Va.: For the third time this season, Colby Howard returns to CR7 Motorsports set to drive the No. 9 Grant County Mulch Chevrolet Silverado in Saturday afternoon’s penultimate NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) race of the season at the historic Martinsville (Va.) Speedway.

Howard, a native of Simpsonville, N.C. is soaking up the experience of driving for the Statesville, N.C.-based team in preparation of his rookie campaign on the tour in 2022.

Last month, Howard was announced as a new driver of a second NASCAR Camping World Truck Series team for McAnally-Hilgemann Racing next season. The addition of Saturday afternoon’s Truck Series will continue to allow him to add priceless laps under his belt as he prepares for a hopeful championship effort in 2022.

And a career-best performance would be a welcomed belated Birthday present for Howard who celebrated his 20th birthday on Oct. 28.

CR7 Motorsports returns to the tour after a three-week breather where at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, mainstay driver Codie Rohrbaugh contended for a top-10 finish but was eliminated from the Chevrolet Silverado 250 on the last lap and finished 16th.

With speed in their race trucks led by crew chief Doug George, the organization is focused on another top-10 in the 21st race of the season.

“We are excited to have Colby back behind the wheel of our truck,” said Rohrbaugh. “He did a fantastic job for our team not only at Darlington but at Bristol last month. With another short track race on deck, we think it is very possible that he can easily contend for a top-10 finish.”

At Bristol, Howard started 20th and dodged several melees on the tight, half-mile coliseum and delivered a 15th place result – on the heels of his 13th place effort at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway the week before.

With prior experience at Martinsville earlier this year in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, the South Carolinian is banking on his prior experience at the historic Virginia paperclip to propel him to his first career top-10 finish in the Truck Series.

“I cannot thank Codie (Rohrbaugh), Doug (George) and the entire CR7 Motorsports team and family enough for this opportunity again,” said Howard. “I have had a lot of fun driving this No. 9 Grant County Mulch Chevrolet Silverado. With two good finishes under our belt at Darlington and Bristol, I am hoping for another good run in the Truck Series.”

Knowing the confines of Martinsville are night and day compared to the track of Darlington and Bristol, Howard is hoping that the good ole’ short track mentality will take over and he will use that to be an advantage towards rewarding the family-owned team with their fifth top-10 finish of 2021.

“Martinsville is a very tight short track, there isn’t a lot of room to hide, let alone make an error,” Howard added. “It’s a place where track position is everything and you have to be willing to stick with whatever challenges come your way.

“It’s gonna be rough for sure. It’s not as easy of a track to pass as Darlington or Bristol may be – so you may have to be aggressive – but you don’t want to be too aggressive and have it bite you right back or perhaps even later in the race. We will run our race, hopefully, keep the truck clean as long as possible and just see how the dominos fall to hopefully bring home another solid finish.”

Based on metrics set by NASCAR without practice or qualifying, Howard will line up 29th for the 200-lap race.

Entering Martinsville, CR7 Motorsports holds 24th in the championship owner standings participating in 18 of the 20 races this season.

Following Martinsville, Fairhope, Ala.’s Grant Enfinger will return to the organization to close out the 2021 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season at Phoenix (Ariz.) Raceway on Fri., Nov. 5., 2021.

CR7 Motorsports has 44 NCWTS starts to their credit with a career-best finish of third at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway (February 2020). Additionally, the team owns six other top-10 finishes including two this season at Circuit of the Americas (fourth | Grant Enfinger) in May 2021 and Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway (seventh | Grant Enfinger) in March 2021. An 11th place qualifying effort at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway (Oct. 2019) is the team’s best time trials effort to date.

Marketing partnership(s) opportunities are also available for the No. 9 Grant County Mulch Chevrolet in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, as well as the team’s ARCA Menards Series No. 97 A.L.L. Construction | Grant County Mulch Chevrolet program with driver Jason Kitzmiller for the 2021 seasons and beyond. Interested inquiries are encouraged to contact tonya@gcmulch.com or 304.257.8783.

The United Rentals 200 (200 laps | 105.2 miles) is the 21st of 22 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races on the 2021 schedule. The 40-truck field will take the green flag on Sat., Oct. 30, 2021, shortly after 1:00 p.m. ET with live coverage on FOX Sports 1, the Motor Racing Network (Radio) and SiriusXM Satellite Radio NASCAR Channel 90.

The truck has four Top 10 finishes to its credit, including an eighth place finish last year at Martinsville after leading 65 laps.
    • Back2Back: Sheldon Creed enters the penultimate race of 2021 above the Playoffs cutline by a mere five points. In order to advance to Phoenix and contend for the championship, the No. 2 driver needs to net as many points as possible to ensure that he remains fourth or better. As part of the Martin Truex, Jr. Foundation and NASCAR Foundation Honor a Cancer Hero program, riding along with Zane will be Gene Noltkamper, who is currently fighting kidney cancer.
    • Chassis history/info: Smith and the No. 21 team will utilize chassis no. 325 under the lights in Southern Virginia. Zane has raced this chassis ten times, earning Top 10 finishes in six of those races. Most recently, this Silverado competed at Gateway to open up the Playoffs, where it led 19 laps before having a rear gear failure. Last season, the truck started second and finished a stout third at Martinsville.
    • 21in21: Due to some bad luck and poor finishing results in the Round of 8, Zane Smith is in a must win situation heading into Martinsville in order to compete for a championship. Though winless this year, Smith has historically been hard to beat at short tracks, with wins all over the country in ARCA and Super Late Model competition. Down, but not out, Zane Smith looks to fight hard and come in clutch to earn himself a grandfather clock en route to Phoenix.
    • Quote: “I’m ready to go up to Martinsville; last year was my first time there and we ended up finishing third with a great shot at winning at the end. I’ve been prepared to go into this race on either side of the cutline, either good or bad. Obviously, we all know which side we would rather choose, but we’re on the outside looking in so it’ll be fun to race for the win while battling the pressure the Playoffs bring. I’m hoping to grab a grandfather clock along with a ticket to the Championship 4 race in Phoenix.”

    • Chassis history/info: Purdy and the No. 23 team will compete with chassis no. 313 at Martinsville Speedway, a track that has seen this truck parked in victory lane once before with Johnny Sauter in 2018. This truck has also visited victory lane with Sauter at Bristol Motor Speedway as well, and was most recently driven to a sixth place finish at Gateway, where Purdy earned his best finish of the season. - Where it all began: Martinsville Speedway is the track where Chase Purdy made his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut at in 2018. It has been quite some time since he has raced at “The Paperclip”, but Purdy will look to lean on his short track prowess and finish out the season with another solid run at the 0.533-mile bullring. - Quote: “Looking forward to this weekend! Martinsville is a really cool racetrack that suits my driving style. I’m sure that it’s going to be an exciting, nerve wracking day since it’s a cutoff race, but man, I love short track racing. “

Chevrolet has contributed over $15 million so far to benefit breast cancer screening, patient care, research and supporting the special people on the front lines of this fight. As part of the Martin Truex, Jr. Foundation and NASCAR Foundation Honor a Cancer Hero program, riding along with Jack will be Karen Morgan, a Glioblastoma cancer fighter who unfortunately lost her life to the terrible disease in 2020, and Debbi Fiore, a cancer survivor.
    • Chassis history/info: Wood and his No. 24 team will run chassis no. 301 at Martinsville Speedway. This Chevy started out life as an intermediate truck, posting wins at Chicagoland Speedway and Charlotte Motor Speedway with Johnny Sauter in 2017, but has recently been converted over to a short track spec. Jack qualified second at Nashville earlier this season driving 301, and it was most recently used by Doug Coby at Bristol, where it finished 12th.
    • Short Track Rookie: Not only will Jack Wood be making his first ever laps around Martinsville Speedway on Saturday, he will also make his first ever start at a short track in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Wood hopes to net a clean finish and rebound from some recent misfortunes in his previous races at Darlington, Las Vegas, and Talladega.
    • Quote: “I’m looking forward to getting back on track at Martinsville. Over the downtime, I’ve been putting in a lot of work off the track trying to be as prepared as I possibly can. Short tracks are places that I’ve struggled with in the past, so I’ve been putting a lot of focus on getting better there. I’m excited to race at The Paperclip, and hopefully our No. 24 GMS Chevy Cares Silverado runs great.”

As part of the Martin Truex, Jr. Foundation and NASCAR Foundation Honor a Cancer Hero program, riding along with Tyler will be Karen Morgan, a Glioblastoma cancer fighter who unfortunately lost her life to the terrible disease in 2020.
    • Chassis history: Ankrum and his No. 26 crew will compete using chassis no. 305 at “The Paperclip”. This Silverado has been raced five times previously with Tyler behind the wheel, posting three Top 10 finishes. In 2018, this chassis visited victory lane at Texas Motor Speedway with Justin Haley as the driver.
    • From Humble Beginnings: In October of 2018, Tyler Ankrum made his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut at Martinsville Speedway as one of the youngest drivers in the field. On that day, a then seventeen-year-old Ankrum started 19th and finished 18th in his first ever truck race. Fun fact, GMS Racing emerged victorious in that race with longtime veteran Johnny Sauter, who at that time was thirty nine years old.
    • Quote: “I’ve never really had the best of luck at Martinsville, but there’s always one thing that I look forward to when we go there – the Martinsville hot dog. I think we will have a pretty fast truck there this year, we had a pretty fast one last year as well, but it’s so hard to pass because both lanes get plugged up. It’s tough to be fast on a long run, because the runs aren’t really long enough, but it’s also hard to be fast on a short run, because you’ll give up speed on the ‘long’ run. The race should go by really quickly if it’s under green, but it takes forever under cautions. Either way, I think we’ll be alright and have a fun day.”

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Quotes

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (October 27, 2021) – Halmar Friesen Racing driver Stewart Friesen was made available to media via videoconference prior to the Martinsville race weekend today:

STEWART FRIESEN, No. 52 Halmar International Toyota Tundra, Halmar Friesen Racing

How have you been staying busy and ready since the last race?

“Since Talladega, the last three weeks we have been really busy up here in the Northeast with our Big Block Modified team. We ran Super Dirt Week at Oswego, the 200 there. We ran Port Royal, another 200 in Pennsylvania with the Short Track Super Series, and we just finished up the Eastern States 200 this past weekend at Orange County Fair Speedway right outside of New York City. The last three weeks have been the busiest of the season for the dirt modified world, so we are getting a little bit of a breather now going back NASCAR racing and looking forward to that.”

What does it mean to you to make the Championship 4?

“It would be very gratifying. Not only for me, but our entire race team. For where we were from the start of 2020, starting the new team from the ground up with Halmar, with the support from TRD and the guys from Toyota to where we are now – since the Playoffs have started competing for top-fives. Building a championship winning team was the goal all along and we knew it would take time, so I think we are probably ahead of realistically the time it takes to build a championship team. We’ve done a really good job. Our guys have done a really good job. Chris Larsen with providing the equipment to do this. We knew where we wanted to be and we are there, and for us to make that Championship 4 this year in our second full season would be really, really gratifying. If we don’t, it is what it is. As long as we go to Martinsville and have a solid truck and don’t shoot ourselves in the foot – if we put our cards on the table and it is what it is at the end of the day and we don’t make it, hey, at least we went down trying and we will be back in 2022 to try again. If we do make that Championship 4, we are really excited about that. We have a good package for Phoenix. We have good notes for Martinsville and Phoenix. I believe we have an outside shot at the championship, so we will see what happens.”

What would you be looking for at the Next Gen test that you are going to participate in?

“It’s going to be interesting. First, it caught me by surprise when Jerry from NASCAR called and let me know that they were looking at me to run that test. It’s something that is really, really cool. It’s something that I’m really proud to do and help out with. We are still going to try to get back to Bristol in a Cup car, however that may shake out this year. We haven’t taken that off of the map, but for them to ask me to do it was something that was really, really awesome. I’m just going to try my best to help in all aspects. It’s primarily a tire test. I believe we will have a bunch of different compounds. We will run through a bunch of stuff. The engineers will look at temps and wear. Wythville, the surface there is a red clay surface, similar to what goes on Bristol. I believe the abrasiveness in the clay will be similar, so I think it will be a pretty good test to see how the tires hold up. I made one suggestion after Bristol and Knoxville that I think the cars and trucks would race better on a harder tire – similar to what we used at Eldora. We will see what happens. We will see what they bring, and we will try to go there and run some laps and have some fun with it. It’s going to be a pretty cool experience for me and hopefully, I will be able to give them as much feedback as I can to NASCAR and Goodyear so ultimately, we can have the best races at Bristol.”

Why would a harder tire be better for the dirt races?

“Just because it would be less demand on the racetrack. The harder tire tends to polish up a dirt track more, so it gets more of a beat on the wall at the top and a search for moisture on the bottom rather than just lay rubber lock down single file on the bottom, which kind of is where Bristol went after so many laps. We pit and we get tires, and you could race for 10-15 laps and then at the end of the segments we were kind of just locked in on the bottom. I think a harder tire will keep the track a little more polished up and let fans see a dirt race that they would like to see with cars beating the right rear off of the fence and guys catfishing on the bottom and searching for that moisture just to widen the track out and not be so demanding on the track and break it apart and make the holes and the dust that we saw.”

Coming in just below the cutoff line, are you wanting to know points updates throughout the race?

“A little bit. Jonathan Leonard, our crew chief, does a good job of that – just kind of keeping the big picture in play. That’s more for him to worry about during the race. I just get to go there and race. I will race as hard as I can to stay inside the top-five through both stages and make some stage points. I think that’s our goal – make some stage points to have a little bit of a cushion going into the last stage when kind of all hell breaks loose in the Truck races at Martinsville. We will watch other guys. Everyone in the Playoff hunt is looking at stage points. We have to race for stage points. We really can’t afford to short pit and try to get that track position. We need some stage points first, and then race it at the end. That being said, you’ve seen guys at Martinsville pit late and get tires and be able to come back through, so we will see what happens but for sure, we will watch the competition and if they are faster than us and if we need to come in and make and adjustment, we will make sure we do that and we don’t leave anything on the table.”

Have you raced at the Wythville track?

“I haven’t. I’ve raced a bunch of stuff in North Carolina, South Carolina in the past year since we started the dirt late model thing. I did that a little bit too. Our modified has been there a little bit more since COVID, but I haven’t actually been to Wythville. I’ve seen a lot of videos from there, similar to like a smoky mountain type of track, and kind of similar type of clay to a Cherokee and what goes down on Bristol. I’m looking forward to it.”

Has the three week-break since Talladega help you get past the wreck there?

“A little bit, I guess. We had some really great momentum throughout the Playoffs going into Talladega, and it is what it is. We brought a really fast truck. Our guys did a really good job executing the race. I was trying to put ourselves in position to be in the top-five on those last five laps just to have a shot at it, and kind of all hell broke loose with Grant (Enfinger) and Sheldon (Creed) there and we got collected up. It does feel good to have three weeks off and go back modified race a little bit, let the guys at the shop take a breath. The first part of the Playoffs was pretty wide open for the Truck Series, so they guys were able to take a breath and regroup a little bit and focus on our Martinsville and Phoenix trucks and put a lot of work into them. They’ve been busy with them, and we have two good pieces to go for that, so yeah, it was a little bit of a regroup for us.”

How well do you feel you need to run at Martinsville to advance?

“I say top-fives pay the bills, but we need to be in the top-fives in stages, if not win a stage to make maximum stage points and have a shot to win. The Playoffs are all about running up front and winning. We’ve been in the top-five. We’ve been close, so hopefully – if we could get a win that would be awesome. I believe in our team. I don’t believe we have an outside shot. I believe we will have a fast enough truck to compete with our competitors in the chase, and nothing is out of the question at this point.”

Are you stressed out about Saturday, or have you been through it enough at this point?

“I’ve been through it. I’m not losing sleep over it yet. Maybe Friday night a little bit. Anything can happen in the Truck Series. I’ve lost races in the 11th hour. I’m optimistic. I think I can go in there and just try to keep my emotion in check all race long and not get excited if something happens in the first or second stage and then we have to kind of drop the plow at the end and start putting the elbows up. That’s what we will try to do. I believe we can bring a fast truck. We had a fast truck there in the fall last year. We were able to win a stage, and we will have a similar package – which I think we even refined to be better yet. I hope we will be fast enough to stay up front and keep guys off of my back bumper. That’s going to be the main thing.”
