  • Codie Rohrbaugh back in the saddle for CR7 Motorsports at Knoxville

Codie Rohrbaugh back in the saddle for CR7 Motorsports at Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Iowa: For the first time since Darlington (S.C.) Raceway in early May, Codie Rohrbaugh returns to the CR7 Motorsports seat for Friday night’s inaugural Corn Belt 150 presented by Premier Chevy Dealers looking for his second top-10 finish of the 2021 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

With the team sitting idle in two of the last three NCWTS races at Texas Motor Speedway and Nashville Superspeedway respectively, Rohrbaugh is hoping to rebound the team from a stout performance at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway that turned sour in the waning laps of the CRC Brakleen 150.

Fairhope, Ala. native Grant Enfinger piloted the No. 9 Grant County Mulch Chevrolet Silverado at the “Tricky Triangle” and contended for a top-five finish but succumbed to engine issues late in the 60-lap shootout.

Ready for his second NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race on the dirt this season, Rohrbaugh is determined to carry the team and continue a powerful presence near the front of the field.

“I’m looking forward to Knoxville this weekend,” said Rohrbaugh who will compete in his seventh race of the year Friday night. “It’s been a while since I’ve been in the seat, but I’m excited to get in this truck and have a little fun on the dirt.”

Under the guidance of crew chief Doug George, CR7 Motorsports has enhanced its on-track performance and Rohrbaugh says his leadership will continue to carry the organization not only at Knoxville but the remainder of the 2021 NCWTS season.

“Everyone has worked their tails off,” added Rohrbaugh. “Whether it’s myself or Grant (Enfinger) behind the wheel, we are one team with one goal in mind. We’ve run strong this season – even if we don’t always have the finishes to show for it at the end of the race.

“With that being said, we’re still working on being even better. There’s a lot of great tracks coming up for our team this summer and fall where we can have an impact not only to post more top-10 finishes but maybe even contend for a win or two.

“Hard work definitely pays off for our CR7 Motorsports team.”

In March, Rohrbaugh finished 27th on the dirt at Bristol Motor Speedway and while the result wasn’t what he or his team had hoped, the experience should pay dividends on Friday night.

In the lone practice session on Thursday, Rohrbaugh was 33rd quickest overall.

“Dirt racing is certainly not easy, but it is a lot of fun,” added Rohrbaugh. “We had a good truck at Bristol, but we faced certain obstacles that kept us from finishing better. We made some gains during practice on Thursday, so we’ll see what the rest of the week delivers.

“I really honestly think it’s going to be tough to pass, so you may see a lot of shoving and gouging – but that will be a welcomed sight for the fans. I think this inaugural race is certainly going to be one to remember.”
Rohrbaugh, 27, will make his 35th NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start in the inaugural Corn Belt 150.

CR7 Motorsports has 37 NCWTS starts to their credit with a career-best finish of third at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway (February 2020). Additionally, the team owns six other top-10 finishes including two this season at Circuit of the Americas (fourth | Grant Enfinger) in May 2021 and Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway (seventh | Grant Enfinger) in March 2021. An 11th place qualifying effort at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway (Oct. 2019) is the team’s best time trials effort to date.

CR7 Motorsports holds a respectable 24th in the championship owner standings participating in 11 of the 13 races this season.

In 20 career ARCA starts, Rohrbaugh has a best finish of seventh twice at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway (July 2018 and Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway (February 2019). He has qualified a career-best fourth on four different occasions, most recently at Kansas Speedway (Oct. 2018).

Marketing partnership(s) opportunities are also available for the No. 9 Grant County Mulch Chevrolet in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, as well as the team’s ARCA Menards Series No. 97 A.L.L. Construction | Grant County Mulch Chevrolet program with driver Jason Kitzmiller for the 2021 seasons and beyond. Interested inquiries are encouraged to contact tonya@gcmulch.com or 304.257.8783.

The Corn Belt 150 presented by Premier Chevy Dealers (150 laps | 75 miles) is the 14th of 22 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races on the 2021 schedule. The lone practice begins on Thurs., Jul. 8, 2021, at 6:05 p.m. – 7:25 p.m. Qualifying heat races begin on race day, Fri. Jul. 9, beginning at 6:00 p.m. The 40-truck field will take the green flag later that night shortly after 8:00 p.m. CT with live coverage on FOX Sports 1, the Motor Racing Network (Radio) and SiriusXM Satellite Radio NASCAR Channel 90.

John Hunter Nemechek – No. 4 Mobil 1 Tundra Camping World Trucks Knoxville Preview

John Hunter Nemechek: Driver, No. 4 Mobil 1 Toyota

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Overview:
    Event: Corn Belt 150, Race 14 of 22, 150 Laps – 40/50/60; 75 Miles
Location: Knoxville (Iowa) Raceway (half-mile dirt oval)
    Date/Broadcast: July 9, 2021 at 9 p.m. ET on FS1, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR 90

    Neme’chek’ The Facts:

    • John Hunter Nemechek and the No. 4 Mobil 1 team head into Knoxville Raceway for the Corn Belt 150. Nemechek has put together a remarkable season thus far in his first season driving for Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM). The second-generation driver leads the NASCAR Camping World Trucks Series regulars in wins (five), stage wins (nine), top fives (eight), top 10s (11), laps led (485), fastest laps run (237), driver rating (119.4), average running position (5.906) and average finish (7.1). With two races remaining in the regular season, Nemechek holds an 86-point advantage over Ben Rhodes in the driver standings. He has accumulated 34 playoff points so far this season and would add another 15 should he capture the regular season championship.
    • Nemechek registered his fifth win of 2021 in the series’ last stop, June 26 at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pa. The talented wheelman was able to beat KBM owner-driver Kyle Busch head-to-head for the third time this season. Nemechek also bested his boss at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway in March and at Richmond (Va.) Raceway in April. Busch finished second to his pupil in all three of those events. Busch was victorious at Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway in March and Kansas Speedway in May. In addition to beating Busch three times, Nemechek also outdueled reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion Chase Elliott to pick up the victory at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth in June. So, he holds a four-to-two advantage this season going heads up against the last two Cup Series champions.
    • Across six career Camping World Trucks starts on dirt, Nemechek has collected one top five and four top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 14.7. Nemechek was running fifth in Stage Two of the dirt race at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway earlier this year when he got spun by another competitor and was relegated to a season-worst 39th-place finish. The North Carolina native had better results when the Truck Series use to visit Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. He finished inside the top 10 four times in five tries, with a best result of fifth in the 2017 event.
    • Nemechek is an 11-time winner in Camping World Truck Series action, winning at least one race each season from 2015 to 2018 for his family-owned team, NEMCO Motorsports, and returning to victory lane this year with KBM. Across 115 career starts in NASCAR’s third division, the second-generation driver has compiled two poles, 1094 laps led, 36 top-five and 61 top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 12.5. The North Carolina native qualified for the Camping World Truck Series playoffs in each of his two full-time seasons, finishing eighth in the championship standings in both 2016 and 2017. He was voted the series most popular driver in 2015.
    • Eric Phillips returns to KBM to lead the No. 4 team this season. Phillips led the No. 18 team at KBM in its debut season in 2010 and helped build the organization into one of the premier teams in all of NASCAR before departing at the end of the 2014 season. Under his guidance, the No. 18 team won eight races in its inaugural campaign and became the first team in Truck Series history to capture an owner’s championship in its first season of competition. In 2014, the Illinois native led the No. 51 team to an owner’s championship and his team’s 10 wins spearheaded KBM to a single-season Truck Series record of 14 wins. His 41 career Truck Series victories make him the winningest crew chief in Truck Series history, with 31 of those coming while at KBM. Phillips has been the crew chief for two Camping World Truck Series races on dirt. His drivers were involved in accidents in both events, leaving him with an average finish of 34.0.

    John Hunter Nemechek, Driver Q&A:

What does it say about your team that you are finding different ways to win races?

“I think its good that you can win in a lot of different ways. If you do get back in traffic and your truck is off, then we are able to make the adjustments that we need to make our truck better to get back up to the front. Luckily, at Pocono, we had a late race caution come out and we were able to kind of get Kyle (Busch) on that restart and then we were able to pull away at that point. Starting the day, we weren’t very good, so being able to communicate and work on our truck, getting our truck better, continue to progress through the race I think is the biggest key. When you can win in so many different ways like we have at Pocono, Texas, Charlotte and then in dominating fashion at a couple race tracks, says a lot about this team. It says we have a never give up attitude and that’s a great thing that that can playoff into the championship run through the playoffs.”

You’ve raced at Eldora and on the dirt at Bristol, how do you think the racing at Knoxville will be?
“I’ve studied some video from a couple past races at Knoxville, some sprint car stuff and then the SRX Series the last couple weeks. I’ve been looking at a lot of that, just trying to figure out what the race track surface does. I’m sure it’s going to be totally different, so I’m looking forward to practice on Thursday night and seeing what we have. Our goal is to go and try to survive, run every lap, and try to win. At this point, there is two races left in the regular season, so we want to continue to rack up as many wins and stage points as possible.”

Brian Brown has won multiple track championships in sprint cars at Knoxville. Will you be able to lean on him for tips about track conditions?
“I definitely think I can pick his brain about the track and kind of see what he thinks the track normally does throughout the night. I feel like when you run a sprint car compared to a stock car it is going to be totally different, so I don’t know how much information I’ll be able to lean on him from that side. I definitely think any experience on dirt is better than none, so talking to him about track conditions, moisture, how they prep it and different things, what they’ll do overnight from Thursday to Friday and when we come in the garage on Friday seeing what they’ve done and how he thinks the track is going to change. I think that is the biggest thing for us, is to make adjustments to our truck and better ourselves throughout the night.”

    John Hunter Nemechek Career Highlights:

    • Eleven-time winner in Camping World Truck Series action, winning at least one race each season from 2015 to 2018 for his family-owned team, NEMCO Motorsports. Across 115 career starts in NASCAR’s third division, has compiled two poles, 1,094 laps led, 36 top-five and 61 top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 12.5.
    • Qualified for the Camping World Truck Series playoffs in each of his two full-time seasons, finishing eighth in the championship standings in both 2016 and 2017.
    • Produced three top-10 finishes and an average result of 22.4 while competing for rookie of the year honors in the NASCAR Cup Series in 2020. He recorded a career-best eighth-place finish twice, both coming at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, earned the Sunoco Rookie of the Race award four times and finished 23rd in the championship standings.
    • Across 52 career XFINITY Series starts, has totaled one win (Kansas Speedway, 10/20/18), one pole, 225 laps led, 12 top-five and 30 top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 12.0.

John Hunter Nemechek’s No. 4 Mobil 1 Tundra:
KBM-X134D: The No. 4 Mobil 1 team will unload KBM-X134D Friday night in Knoxville. The chassis was obtained from Bragg Racing Group and has run five times with a best finish of fourth coming at Eldora Speedway in 2015 by Erik Jones.

    KBM Notes of Interest:

    • KBM drivers have earned three wins, one poles, 407 laps led, seven top-five and 13 top-10 finishes, with an average finish of 13.5 across 24 starts on dirt tracks. Martin Truex Jr. won the inaugural dirt race at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway in March while Darrell Wallace Jr. (2014) and Christopher Bell (2015) both claimed victories at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio.
    • KBM holds the Camping World Truck Series records for most career wins (88) and most wins in a single season (14 in 2014). With his victory at the Bristol Motor Speedway Dirt Track, Truex Jr. became the 16th different driver to win a Truck Series event for KBM. In addition to collecting a series-record seven Owner’s Championships, the organization has produced two championship-winning drivers: Erik Jones (2015) and Christopher Bell (2017).
    • The No. 4 has 16 career victories at KBM and was the number for both of the organization’s driver championships.

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (July 7, 2021) – Todd Gilliland and the No. 38 Frontline Enterprises team will race at the famed Knoxville (Iowa) Raceway this Friday night. It’s the first race at the track for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

Knoxville Raceway hosts the annual Knoxville Nationals for winged sprint cars each season and the facility is the one of the premier dirt tracks in America. Gilliland comes to the track knowing all its history.

“It’s pretty cool that we’re going to be racing at Knoxville,” said Gilliland. “The is one of the best dirt tracks in the country and it’s great for us to have the opportunity to race there. Fans in Iowa, they love racing, dirt racing, sprint cars and now we’re going to show them some truck racing on the dirt, too.”

Gilliland finished fourth earlier this season on the dirt at the Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway and is looking for another top-five or better on Friday night in the Frontline Enterprises Ford F-150.

“I love racing on the dirt,” continued Gilliland. “I mean, I haven’t done much racing on dirt, but it’s pretty fun. I think you need to have a good attitude about it, go out there and have fun. Then, it’s been easier to see the good results come. We did that at Bristol and it worked out for us. So, hopefully we can do the same for Frontline Enterprises with us on Friday night.”

Gilliland and the Frontline Enterprises team will practice on Thursday before lining up for heat races on Friday and the feature Friday night under the lights. The race will be televised live on FS1 at 9:00 p.m. ET.

    • The 19-year-old driver has made a remarkable rally in the point standings over the last four events. When the Camping World Trucks left Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, he sat 12th on the playoff grid, 35 points behind Sauter for the 10th position. Over the four-race span, Smith has tallied 134 total points, fourth-most in the series. Despite a disappointing 23rd-place finish in the series’ last stop at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pa., the talented teenager has gained 66 points on Sauter.
    • Knowing it will be a tight battle for the final spot in the playoffs, the No. 18 has executed a strategy of scoring stage points in recent events. Over the last three races by finishing seventh or better in five of the six stages, including winning Stage Two at Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway, the team accumulated a total of 31 stage points.
    • Across 13 starts this season, Smith has two top-five and four top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 17.9. He produced a season-best result of fourth at Richmond (Va.) Raceway in April. He sits second in Rookie of the Year standings, 21 points behind Carson Hocevar. The Toyota Racing Development driver has 10 top-five, and 13 top-10 finishes across 29 career Camping World Truck Series starts, including a career-best runner-up finish at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway in 2019.
    • Smith showed speed in the first Camping World Truck Series dirt race of the season at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway, climbing his way from his 21st starting position to 11th over the first 26 laps, but a pair of incidents after that would leave him with a disappointing 34th-place finish.
    • Aiming to keep his skills sharp, Smith spent his off weekend from the Truck Series behind the wheel of a Late Model Stock Car July 3 at South Boston (Va.) Speedway. After turning the 12th-fastest time in qualifying, he went on to finish the 200-lap race in the seventh position. A regular in the Super Late Model ranks, Saturday was just his second career start in the Late Model Stock Car division.
    • Veteran crew chief Danny Stockman calls the shots for Smith and the No. 18 team this season. Stockman led the No. 51 team to four wins in his first season atop the pit box at KBM in 2020. He came to the organization with experience as a crew chief in all three national series, including a Truck Series championship with Austin Dillon in 2011 and an Xfinity Series championship with Dillon in 2013. Stockman has been atop the pit box for two dirt races, his best result was a fifth-place finish with Ty Dillon at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio in 2014.
    • JBL, the authority in engineering superior sound, will be the primary sponsor for the No. 18 team this week at Knoxville and again Aug. 7 at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International Speedway. Safelite AutoGlass – the nation’s largest provider of vehicle glass repair, replacement, and recalibration services – returns to Smith’s Tundra Aug. 20 at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway.

    Chandler Smith, Driver Q&A:

The two remaining regular season races are on unique tracks. Is one of them more of a wild card than the other?
“Not really. Knoxville is obviously a dirt track a, so it is going to be chaotic just like Bristol dirt was. We had a really strong truck at Bristol dirt, driving through the field and we ended up getting taken out. I think we are going to have to play it really conservative, we are right on the playoff bubble. We’re good by a decent bit, so all we really have to do is survive right now.”

After racing on dirt for the first time at Bristol, are you looking forward to Knoxville?
“For sure, my JBL Toyota Tundra was a rocket ship at Bristol dirt, so that definitely made it that much more fun. I’m looking forward to Knoxville, it’s going to be a completely different atmosphere for sure than Bristol dirt was. I’m ready for whatever it throws at us.”

As you’ve prepared for racing at Knoxville, how do you think it will be different than what you experienced at Bristol?
“I don’t think the racing is going to be much different, I think there is going to be two lanes. The SRX just raced there a few weeks ago and I’ve watched that race obviously, there was two lanes a bit there and you could race around each other and not run over each other. I feel like there is going to be two grooves, where we can race side-by-side fairly clean. I think it’s going to drive a lot like a short track on a Saturday night to be honest with you.”

    Chandler Smith Career Highlights:

    • Across 29 career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts has recorded 187 laps led, 10 top-five and 13 top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 14.8.
    • Posted an average finish of 7.7 across his final seven of 12 total Truck Series starts in 2020, including third-place finishes in the series finale at Phoenix (Ariz.) Raceway and his first career superspeedway start at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway in October.
    • Produced three top-five and four top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 4.2 across his first four career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts in 2019. He led 55 laps and finished eighth in his Gander Trucks debut at Iowa Speedway last July and then posted top-five finishes in his final three starts, including a runner-up finish at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway.
    • Has collected nine wins, 10 poles, 1783 laps led, 22 top-five and 29 top-10 finishes en route to an average finish of 5.4 across 34 career ARCA Menards Series starts. Set an ARCA Racing Series record by winning four consecutive poles to start his career and earned his first victory after leading a race-high 102 laps at Madison (Wis.) International Speedway in his fourth series start.
    • Chandler Smith’s No. 18 JBL Tundra:
    • KBM-25: The No. 18 JBL team will unload chassis number KBM-25 for Friday’s night’s race at Knoxville Raceway. Smith raced the same Toyota at the dirt race at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway, where he was relegated to a 34th-place finish after being involved in an accident in the Final Stage. Todd Gilliland won with this Tundra at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway in October of 2019. The truck has two other career wins, 2017 with Noah Gragson at Martinsville and 2016 at World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Ill. with Christopher Bell. In addition to Smith’s Bristol dirt outing, Todd Gilliland finished fifth with KBM-25 in 2019 at Eldora Speedway.
    • KBM Notes of Interest:
    • The No. 18, the number which was on the first Tundra that went to victory lane for KBM in 2010, has 21 career victories.

    Quote:

”I am pumped to get back on dirt this weekend at Knoxville Raceway. We had a solid run on dirt at Bristol but didn’t have the best end result. Being this is my first time at Knoxville, I am not really sure what to expect. I’ve been watching a lot of past sprint car races and working with Josh Wise trying to prepare. We have a pretty good dirt package, so I think it will be mostly on me to find the right groove and keep the Lift Kits 4 Less Chevrolet out of trouble.”

    Quote:

“I’m excited to get back on the dirt. Bristol went really well for us and probably would have had an awesome race with the No. 51 for the win if we didn’t get our penalty before it became single groove. Though, I think driving through the field when we were stuck on the bottom will be great practice for Knoxville since I think it’ll be mostly one lane and having to move off the bottom. It should be a fun and exciting race. We hope to lock ourselves into the playoffs and get TenderBison parked in Victory Lane in their first race.”
