DGR NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Race Recap: Nashville Superspeedway – No. 17 Wins!

    Friday, June 18
    Track: Nashville Superpeedway, 1.33-mile oval
    Race: 12 of 22
Event: Rackley Roofing 200 (150 laps, 200 miles)

Hailie Deegan, No. 1 Monster Energy Ford F-150

    Start: 14th
    Finish: 21st

    • Hailie Deegan qualified 14th for her first race at Nashville Superspeedway on Friday evening.
    • On lap 20, Deegan reported her Monster Energy F-150 was a little loose on entry but she was running top-10 lap times. With 10 laps to go in Stage 1, Deegan was 23rd.
    • Deegan closed out the first stage in 22nd and reported her F-150 was still loose on entry. She pitted during the break for four tires, fuel and adjustments to help with her loose condition.
    • The California native started the second stage from 23rd. With 20 laps to go in the stage, Deegan was 24th as she continued to battle the loose condition. A caution was displayed on lap 78 and Deegan came down pit road for fuel, four tires and major adjustments. She restarted 22nd and closed out the stage in 20th.
    • Deegan started the final stage from 22nd and slipped back to 29th when the caution was displayed on lap 111. Under the caution, Deegan stayed out and moved up to the 27th position for the restart. With 10 laps to go in the event, Deegan was in the 21st spot, where she ultimately finished.

Tanner Gray, No. 15 Ford Performance F-150

    Start: 36th
    Finish: 18th

    • Tanner Gray started the Rackley Roofing 200 from the 36th position after missing qualifying. NASCAR found something they did not like on the lower nose section of the truck and required the team to replace it.
    • The Ford driver had advanced up to 24th in the opening eight laps and radioed that the truck was building tighter and tighter as the run went on. He finished Stage 1 in the 20th position.
    • The team pitted at the stage break for tires, fuel and air pressure adjustments and restarted in 15th. The truck fired off free and Gray ran as high up as 14th, but was in 17th when the caution waved on lap 78. He stayed out under caution and restarted in eighth and finished Stage 2 there to earn three stage points.
    • At the stage break the team pitted for tires and fuel. An uncontrolled tire penalty forced the No. 15 to restart the rear of the field in 28th.
    • The caution flag came out on lap 111 and Gray was up to 21st. The green flag waved with 33 laps remaining and he was able to gain three more positions to finish in 18th.

Ryan Preece, No. 17 Hunt Brothers Pizza Ford F-150

    Start: 6th
    Finish: 1st

    • Ryan Preece qualified in the sixth position in the Hunt Brothers Pizza F-150 and finished Stage 1 there.
    • The team pitted for tires, fuel and adjustments at the break and restarted in 11th. Preece quickly moved up to seventh and was running there when caution waved on lap 78.
    • Crew chief Chad Johnston had him come down pit road for tires and to top off with fuel. He restarted in 13th and finished Stage 2 in 10th.
    • Preece started the final stage in sixth and drove his way up to second by the time a caution came out on lap 111. On the restart, he moved the No. 17 into the lead for the opening lap, but fell back to second and began to mount a charge back towards the lead.
    • The Hunt Brothers Pizza Ford rocketed to the lead with six laps remaining in the race and Preece held on to win in his first ever Truck Series start. The win marks the second ever series win for David Gilliland Racing.

Next event: CRC Brakleen 150 at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania on June 26 at 12 p.m. ET.

  • Ryan Preece wins ‘Rackley Roofing 200’ in Truck Series debut

Ryan Preece wins ‘Rackley Roofing 200’ in Truck Series debut

LEBANON, TENN. (June 18, 2021) – The first time was the charm for Ryan Preece.

The Cup Series regular won his first start in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Friday night, taking the checkered flag in the “Rackley Roofing 200.”

Preece, driving the No. 17 Ford for Team DGR, outdueled David’s son Todd and Grant Enfinger in the final laps to earn the win.

“This truck was awesome,” said Preece, who led eight laps, including the final seven. “I know I was aggressive and pulled some big blocks. Just super proud of this opportunity. You don’t get them very often so you have to take advantage of it.”

The “Rackley Roofing 200” was the first NASCAR event at Nashville Superspeedway since July 2011.

Preece, who has made 93 starts in the NASCAR Cup Series across four seasons, was sixth after Stage 1 and 10th after Stage 2, but made his way up through the field to be in contention in the race’s final stretch.

With Enfinger in the lead, Preece finally reached his back bumper and the two engaged in a spirited side-by-side battle for several laps and exchanged paint once or twice before Preece finally emerged with the advantage.

“It was fun running with him,” said Enfinger, who finished third after leading 39 laps. “It was extremely tough racing out there. We had a good truck, just not enough to hold of those [fresher] tires at the end.”

Preece topped second-place Todd Gilliland by 0.950 second at the finish, followed by Enfinger, Zane Smith and Stewart Friesen. He is the fifth driver all-time to win in his Truck Series debut, joining Mike Skinner, Robert Pressley, Kasey Kahne and Ryan Newman.

“I never quit and never give up,” Preece said. “We were able to get back by him and pull away. It was a real team effort.”

Fellow NASCAR Cup Series driver William Byron, making his first Truck Series start since 2016, was running inside top 10 when he suffered engine trouble that ended his race. He finished last in the 36-truck field.

“We had a couple times where it stumbled and I thought it was the wind on the backstretch,” said Byron of his engine. “It was going to be a pretty good day. We’ll learn from this and move on.”

Stage 1 winner Derek Kraus and Stage 2 winner Chandler Smith tied for the lead in total laps led with 48 apiece. Kraus, who also won the pole position earlier on Friday, ended up 35th after a hard crash in Turn 3 on Lap 111, while Smith placed 13th.

Among other notables, Truck Series points leader John Hunter Nemechek came in 10th, Hendersonville, Tenn., native Josh Berry finished 19th and NASCAR Cup Series regular Ross Chastain wound up 22nd.

Preece completed the 200 miles in 1 hour, 44 minutes, 25 seconds, averaging 114.637 mph. Five caution flags consumed 29 of the race’s 150 laps. The 29 drivers with lead lap finishes and 34 trucks running at the end were both track records.

Nashville Superspeedway’s NASCAR tripleheader weekend continues on Saturday with the “Tennessee Lottery 250” NASCAR Xfinity Series race (2:30 p.m. NBCSN), followed by the inaugural, sold out “Ally 400” NASCAR Cup Series race on Sunday (2:30 p.m., NBCSN).

Toyota Racing – NCWTS Nashville Quotes – Chandler Smith – 06.18.21

    Toyota Racing – Chandler Smith
NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Quotes

NASHVILLE (June 19, 2021) – Kyle Busch Motorsports driver Chandler Smith was made available to media after running the fastest lap in Truck Series practice at Nashville Superspeedway:

CHANDLER SMITH, No. 18 Safelite Auto Glass Toyota Tundra, Kyle Busch Motorsports

How was your run today at Nashville Superspeedway?

“It was honestly unbelievable honestly. I’ve never been here or seen the track in my life. I have a lot of experience at the fairgrounds up the road here a little bit and I’ve always wondered as a kid what this place was like because I don’t remember when NASCAR raced here much, but it’s awesome. I love this racetrack. I feel like it’s a driver’s racetrack. It’s close to a mile-and-a-half. It’s got the same speed as a mile-and-a-half to it at least, but it drives so much like a short track, which I love to death. It should be a fun race tonight.”

Did you have anything else in the truck and what was it like as far as being the fastest guy in practice?

“I’m not going to lie. It didn’t really set in till I set down in this chair just a second ago. I was like ‘Wow, this is a really cool deal.’ Looking at the trophies and the guitar, I thought it was a really cool deal to come off p.1 in practice at the first time back in 10 years, so it’s definitely good for myself, KBM (Kyle Busch Motorsports) and everybody over Safelite.”

I’m assuming you got simulator time.

    “Yep.”

How did the simulator translate to the track, and did you notice anything as far as tire wear?

“Tire wear I think I was actually really solid, especially for the pace that we with-standed. I did a few long runs and I’m pretty sure that tire wear came out to be pretty solid to be honest with you. The simulator, everything translated pretty good. The only thing that I felt versus the simulator was there is a bump right on the bottom, right at the apex of three. I didn’t really feel that much in the simulator, but overall, it hit that on the nail.”

What exactly causes tires to cord?

“I think it’s a lot of combinations of what Goodyear brings to the track, and what the teams are running for setup. That’s a big difference as far as the whole tire wear situation. Like for us, for instance, we never really had a problem. As far as the other teams through the garage as far as practice, if they had problems, I’m not sure, but as far as our 18 team, it was pretty solid as far as tire wear goes.”

“I’m really thankful to have the opportunity to drive for a winning team like GMS Racing at Bristol,” said Coby. “My racing career has been filled with chance meetings where I come across someone who ends up opening another door for me, and last weekend’s SRX event at Stafford withy Mike (Beam) was another one of those cases. For Mike to leave the event and speak with Maury Gallagher about putting me in one of their trucks at Bristol is phenomenal and I’m grateful for the opportunity to prove myself in the Camping World Truck Series. I’m really looking forward to working with all the guys on the 24 team at one of my favorite tracks. It doesn’t get any better than Bristol!”

    QUOTE WORTHY

Josh Berry, driver of the No. 25 Rackley Roofing Chevrolet Silverado for Rackley W.A.R.

“This weekend at the Nashville Superspeedway is going to be exciting for Rackley W.A.R. and Rackley Roofing, racing in their hometown. We had a great run at the Texas Motor Speedway, and we are going to do our best to continue to build on that momentum and bring home another solid finish in the Rackley Roofing 200.”

William Byron, driver of the No. 27 Cruisin Sports / Rackley Roofing Chevrolet Silverado for Rackley W.A.R.

“I am excited to get back in a truck this weekend at Nashville Superspeedway. It’s been a while since I have been in one, but thankfully there is practice to get readjusted, especially at a track I don’t know. That’s going to be the biggest thing about racing at Nashville – no one knows what to expect. Even those that have raced there before, it has been so long since then, and so many things have changed. I think that while it’s labeled a ‘superspeedway,’ it’s going to race closer to running Dover (International Speedway) because of the tight corners and the concrete surface. There are still a lot of unknowns though.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to race with Rackley W.A.R. This weekend, I am looking to win two guitars and that starts
with the Rackley Roofing 200 on Friday night.”

Spencer Davis Motorsports returns to competition at Nashville Superspeedway

NASHVILLE, Tenn.: After sitting idle for the last two NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) races at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway respectively, Spencer Davis Motorsports (SDM) with driver Spencer Davis return to competition for Friday night’s Rackley Roofing 200 at Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway.

Sitting on the sidelines wasn’t an easy decision, but personal matters off the race track kept the family-owned team from partaking in races over the last three weeks.

The brief sabbatical, however, also allowed the Mooresville, N.C.-based team to dive into their equipment and inspect it with a fine-tooth comb hoping their diligent work will pay dividends in the highly anticipated return to Trucks at the fast 1.333-mile superspeedway.

“We’re glad to be back this weekend at Nashville,” said Spencer Davis. “As we mentioned at Charlotte, we had a private family matter that we had to deal with. Thankfully, that is behind us and we’re focusing forward beginning with Nashville on Friday night.”

Davis, 22, has never been to Nashville Superspeedway, but he’ll be joined by much of the Truck Series field who haven’t turned a single lap at the Lebanon, Tenn.-based track either.

The Dawsonville, Ga. native thinks the inexperience of the field at the concrete facility will pay dividends for both the drivers and fans on Friday.

“You think of Nashville a little like COTA,” added Davis. “I think all but five drivers entered for this weekend have competed in previous races at Nashville and even those that have raced at Nashville haven’t in almost a decade so I feel like the playing field should be level for at least practice.

“We need to have a strong practice session with our No. 11 INOX Lubricants Toyota. It’s going to be extremely hot during the day in practice and qualifying and cool off significantly when the sun sets heading into the race, so keeping our truck adjusted for the conditions will be pivotal. It should be a great race for the fans too.

“My last race was Darlington and that seems like forever ago, so I just want to get ourselves in a good place and be working at a steady pace for qualifying. It’s one of the biggest fields of the season and we are going to have to qualify in – so there’s that pressure too.”

Davis didn’t hide around the fact that he expects to deliver even while dealing with volatile circumstances.

“I have to nail that lap in qualifying, but I’m used to being put in a position like that,” sounded Davis. “My guys have built a great truck for Nashville and I’m confident we can go out there and perform from start to finish.”

In February, SDM announced that INOX Supreme Lubricants will serve as the team’s primary partner this season.

INOX product range was first released in 1989 with the Original INOX MX3 Lubricant. The original MX3 product was in development stages for two years prior to release with testing and focus on creating the right product for the
    market.

The INOX product range continues to grow with 12 products on the market, each with their own many specialized qualities used in all different industries. All their products are tested and trialed before hitting the market to ensure the best of quality is maintained in the INOX name. INOX products are available at all major industrial, electrical, automotive, hardware, bearing and mining, marine, fishing and tackle outlets, plus many more locations.

A wholly owned Australian company Candan Industries is now exporting to over 25 countries including the United States of America, Canada, France, South Africa, New Zealand, Indonesia and Malaysia.

“Excited to have a long-time friendship turn into a season-long partnership with INOX Supreme Lubricants,” said Davis. “I can’t thank Angel and James at INOX enough for their continued support and partnership with our small team and working through all the positives and negatives that go into any race season.

“We use their products day to day on our race team and in our machines at our business. A quality product and amazing people helped bring this all together.”

Entering Nashville, Davis, 22, has 27 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts to his credit with a career-best finish of seventh at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in Feb. 2018, with additional top-10s at Texas Motor Speedway (June 2018) and Kentucky Speedway (July 2019).
