John Hunter Nemechek – No. 4 ROMCO Equipment Co. Camping World Trucks COTA Preview

John Hunter Nemechek: Driver, No. 4 ROMCO Equipment Co. Toyota

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Overview:
    Event: Toyota Tundra 225, Race 9 of 22, 41 Laps – 12/14/15; 139.81 Miles
Location: Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas (3.426-mile, 20-turn road course)
    Date/Broadcast: May 22, 2021 at 1 p.m. ET on FS1, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR 90

    Neme’chek’ The Facts:

    • John Hunter Nemechek and the No. 4 ROMCO Equipment Co. team roll into Circuit of the Americas (COTA) for the inaugural Toyota Tundra 225 at the 3.426-mile, 20-turn road course in Austin, Texas. ROMCO Equipment Co. serves the earth moving, ground engaging and materials handling markets by providing superior quality construction and mining equipment. ROMCO has supported customer’s purchase decisions with outstanding parts and service for over 52 years. ROMCO will also serve as the primary sponsor on the No. 4 Tundra June 12 at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth.
    • While he hasn’t competed in a race at COTA, Nemechek made a few laps around the 3.41-mile facility in a No. 4 Mobil 1 show truck in April. Nemechek has six road course starts in the Camping World Trucks. He has one win (Canadian Tire Motorsports Park 2016), three top fives, four top 10s, and 34 laps led. Earlier this season on the road course at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, Nemechek led 14 laps and despite going a lap down when he ran out of fuel near the end of the second stage was able to recover and get back on the lead lap and work his way back through the field to a third-place finish.
    • Nemechek currently sits at the top of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series points standings leading Ben Rhodes by 46 points. The second-generation driver also leads the series with seven stage victories, five top-five finishes and 338 laps led, and is tied for the series lead with two wins and seven top-10 finishes. In the previous event at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway, Nemechek rebounded to an eighth-place finish after being involved in a late-race restart incident.
    • While the Camping World Trucks were off last weekend, Nemechek spent his off-weekend racing for fellow Toyota team Sam Hunt Racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series at Dover (Del.) International Speedway. Nemechek was credited with a 32nd-place finish after a trackbar bolt broke on his Toyota Supra while running inside the top 10 in the race’s final stage.
    • The Triple Truck Challenge presented by Womply in the Camping World Truck Series continues this weekend. This year’s program will consist of the events at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway, Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, and concludes at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway. An extra $50,000 is on the line for each of those events. If Shelden Creed, the Darlington winner, can win at COTA and Charlotte, he will get a $500,000 bonus.
    • Nemechek is an eight-time winner in Camping World Truck Series action, winning at least one race each season from 2015 to 2018 for his family-owned team, NEMCO Motorsports, and returning to victory lane this year with KBM. Across 110 career starts in NASCAR’s third division, the second-generation driver has compiled two poles, 947 laps led, 33 top-five and 57 top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 12.8. The North Carolina native qualified for the Camping World Truck Series playoffs in each of his two full-time seasons, finishing eighth in the championship standings in both 2016 and 2017. He was voted the series most popular driver in 2015.
    • Eric Phillips returns to KBM to lead the No. 4 team this season. Phillips led the No. 18 team at KBM in its debut season in 2010 and helped build the organization into one of the premier teams in all of NASCAR before departing at the end of the 2014 season. Under his guidance, the No. 18 team won eight races in its inaugural campaign and became the first team in Truck Series history to capture an owner’s championship in its first season of competition. In 2014, the Illinois native led the No. 51 team to an owner’s championship and his team’s 10 wins spearheaded KBM to a single-season Truck Series record of 14 wins. His 39 career Truck Series victories make him the winningest crew chief in Truck Series history, with 29 of those coming while at KBM. On road courses, Phillips’ drivers have scored third-place finishes in both of their road course starts. Erik Jones finished third at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in 2014 and most recently Nemechek finished third at the Daytona Road Course in February.

    John Hunter Nemechek, Driver Q&A:
John Hunter Nemechek | Circuit of the Americas Preview
You had a strong run on the road course at Daytona. What is your outlook on the KBM road course program?
“I’m excited to get back to a road course. I feel like we had a really strong Tundra at the Daytona road course. As long as Eric (Phillips) doesn’t run me out of gas this time, I think we will be ok. Overall, it’s a solid program in the rain and in the dry. Who knows what the weather will do this weekend at COTA. It looks like we are going to be rain racing right now. I’m excited to be behind one of these KBM Toyota Tundras.”

You had a chance to go to COTA for a media event. What did you think about the facility? How will trucks race there?
“The facility is pretty amazing being able to kind of see the difference of elevation and how many corners there are. Each corner is unique in its own way. I feel like it puts a whole racetrack together. It’s going to be mentally taxing for sure trying to figure out how your truck will handle in every corner and put everything together to put a perfect lap together in qualifying. Overall, COTA is going to be a really fun race. A lot of different strategies are going to be coming into effect. Hopefully we can come out on top holding a trophy.”

What does it mean to have ROMCO on board your Tundra this weekend at COTA?
“Being able to go to COTA for the first time with them on board, they have a location in Austin, Texas, is really neat. Being able to represent ROMCO Equipment has been a pleasure of mine. I’ve been grateful to have them on board from the truck series when I was at NEMCO all the way up to the Cup Series and now back to the trucks. It’s really neat to support their colors. I know the paint scheme looks awesome. I’m excited to get ROMCO Equipment and all their partners that helped us put this deal together into victory lane. I know that is something I haven’t done with them yet. We need to knock the first one off the list this weekend.”

    John Hunter Nemechek Career Highlights:

    • Parker Chase will make his second career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start behind the wheel of the No. 51 Vertical Bridge Tundra in Saturday’s 41-lap event at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas. The 20-year-old driver resides just over 40 miles from the 3.426-mile, 20-turn road course in New Braunfels, Texas. While many drivers will be tackling the circuit for the first time, the up-and-coming sports car driver already has a victory at COTA. • In his maiden NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start at the Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway Road Course in February, Chase had a fast Vertical Bridge Tundra and spent most of the event running inside the top 10. He was running 10th with nine laps remaining when he spun trying to avoid an accident in front of him. With damage to the right side of his Tundra and being stuck in the middle of the pack for each of the three attempts at NASCAR overtime, he was unable to recover and ended with a disappointing 23rd-place finish.
    • In addition to his two Camping World Truck Series starts, Chase will get the behind the wheel of a Venturini Motorsports Camry for a five-race schedule in the ARCA Menards Series. He will make his 2021 debut May 29 at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway and will also compete at Winchester (Ind.) Speedway (July 31), Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway (Sept. 16), Kansas Speedway (Oct. 23) and Phoenix (Ariz.) Raceway (Nov. 6). He has one prior ARCA Menards Series start, a 10th-place result at the Daytona International Speedway Road Course in 2020.
    • Chase is competing full-time in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge this season. On May 15, he and co-driver Ryan Norman were victorious in the Touring Car Class at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. The win was Chase’s first IMSA victory. • After eight events, the No. 51 sits second in the Camping World Truck Series owner standings, 22 tallies behind KBM’s No. 4 team. The No. 51 team leads the series with three victories, with owner-driver Kyle Busch collecting victories at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Ga., and Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, while Martin Truex Jr. picked up first-ever Truck Series victory at the Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway Dirt Track. The No. 51 team ranks second to the No. 4 team with 310 laps led. As an organization, KBM drivers have combined to lead 62.9% (694/1103) of the total laps this season. KBM has also combined to win 12 of the 16 stages this season, including five by the No. 51 team.
    • Mardy Lindley has guided the No. 51 team to three victories across eight races is in his first season as a crew chief at KBM. Before arriving at KBM, Lindley guided his drivers to 32 wins and four ARCA Menards Series East championships since 2013, including back-to-back titles with Sam Mayer the last two seasons. Additionally, he earned the ARCA Menards Series Sioux Chief Showdown championship with Mayer in 2020. Behind the wheel, the second-generation driver won 11 races on the Pro Cup Series from 2000 to 2006 and was crowned the series champion in 2001.

    Parker Chase, Driver Q&A:

Parker Chase | Circuit of the Americas Preview
What does it mean to you to be making a Truck Series start at COTA?
“I grew up 45 minutes from there. I’ve raced there a lot of times and had family there. It’s exciting to be making a NASCAR Truck Series start there. It’s close to my house, so it means a lot to me, especially so close with all my family there. It’s going to be fun.”

How do you think a Truck Series race at COTA will go?
“It’s going to be interesting. It’s going to be hot. The tire falloff is going to be big. I think the key role in winning the race is going to be keeping the tires underneath you as long as you can because you have some high speeds through the essess, it’s going to destroy the tires if you don’t look after them.”

Do you think having some experience racing at COTA will give you a leg up on the Truck Series?
“I think so. I was out there last September and won with my teammate. It was a good weekend. I probably have six or seven weekends there. I know it well compared to 90% of the field.”

    Parker Chase Career Highlights:

    • Competing full time in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge in 2021. Picked up his first series victory May 15 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course with teammate Ryan Norman.

    • Earned a top-10 finish in his ARCA Menards Series debut on the Daytona Road Course in 2020
    • Recorded top-10 finishes in both of his Late Model Stock races at Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway last year.
    • In 2018, captured the Pirelli World Challenge GT SprintX Pro/Am Championship with co-driver Ryan Dalziel.
    • In 2016, earned the Pirelli World Challenge Rookie of the Year award.

Parker Chase’s No. 51 Vertical Bridge Tundra:
KBM-X134: The No. 51 Vertical Bridge team will unload X134 for Friday’s race at COTA. This is the same chassis that Chase piloted at the Daytona International Speedway Road Course earlier this year. Erik Jones won with the Tundra at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in 2015. • Camden Murphy to drive for Spencer Davis Motorsports at Circuit of the Americas

Camden Murphy to drive for Spencer Davis Motorsports at Circuit of the Americas

MOORESVILLE, N.C.: Spencer Davis Motorsports (SDM) announced today that Camden Murphy will pilot the team’s No. 11 truck for Saturday afternoon’s Toyota Tundra 225 at Circuit of the Americas (COTA).

A native of Itasca, Ill., Murphy is poised to make his second NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) start of the season after posting a solid and career-best 13th place finish in the second race of the year at the Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway Road Course driving for NEMCO Motorsports.

Launching his NASCAR career in 2014, Murphy, 24, has gained notoriety as being the only driver to compete in both NASCAR and Monster Jam driving a Monster Truck.

While continuing a part-time presence in NASCAR in 2017, he was crowned Monster Jam Rookie of the Year and two years later 2019 Monster Jam Rising Star.

Continuing to broaden his racing resume, Murphy is looking forward to returning to the NASCAR world behind the wheel of the No. 11 INOX Supreme Lubricants truck for team owner and mainstay driver Spencer Davis.

“I can’t wait to get back behind the wheel of the No. 11 INOX Supreme Lubricants truck for Spencer Davis Motorsports for NASCAR’s first stop at the Circuit of the Americas,” said Murphy. “I have been turning wrenches for Spencer (Davis) ever since the last time I was behind the wheel at the Daytona Road Course back in February and it has been a blast.

“The entire SDM team works hard to bring the best trucks they can to the track every week and being that I have laps at COTA, I know that we will have a great run and make all of our partners and fans proud!”

With much of the field expected to have little to no track time around the 3.4-mile road course, Murphy is hoping his previous experience at COTA in a road racing coaching role will pay dividends throughout the weekend.

“I am very thankful to have practice and qualifying on the schedule this weekend,” added Murphy. “If the weather doesn’t get in the way, the extra track time at COTA with the Spencer Davis Motorsports team will put us in a good spot for the actual race on Saturday afternoon.

“All things considered, I think we have the opportunity to contend for a top-10 finish this weekend and that would be a huge blessing not only to me but for this team and all of our partners.”

In February, SDM announced that INOX Supreme Lubricants will serve as the team’s primary partner this season.
