    Toyota Racing – Austin Hill
NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Quotes

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (April 29, 2021) – Hattori Racing Enterprises driver Austin Hill was made available to media via videoconference prior to the Kansas race earlier today:

AUSTIN HILL, No. 16 Gunma Toyopet Toyota Tundra, Hattori Racing Enterprises

What is your comfort level with Kansas Speedway?

“Kansas is just one of those racetracks from the first time that I was there I just found myself getting around the place pretty good. I had really good speed and ever since I’ve been with Hattori Racing out Toyota Tundras have been really fast there. I feel like setup-wise; Scott (Zipadelli, crew chief) and the guys have a really good setup there and it works for me and other than that, I always love tracks that are worn out, that you can move around, you can run the bottom, you can run the middle, you can run the top. I’m more of a bottom-feeder, but at the same time, I’m able to move around the racetrack, make things happen and actually, the first race at Kansas that we won I actually was running the top, so it just makes it so it’s in the driver’s hands. You can move around, a lot of maneuverability. It’s just a really fun racetrack to race at. You can race each other really hard. Tire wear is big, so really don’t want to kill the right front or the right rear. It’s just something that I’ve done really well at and if you look at my stats at all of the racetracks where the race surface is worn out, we always to have really good long-run Tundras, so I think it goes back to the guys in the shop giving me some really fast Toyota Tundras to drive.”

How are the restarts like at Kansas Speedway?

“The restarts there are crucial. Track position is key in the Truck Series and especially at a place like Kansas. If you can get out front and get in the clean air, I feel like you have the advantage. Restarts are really big. It seems like Kansas is one of those places where a guy will kind of give you the bottom sometimes and if they do give you the bottom, sometimes you don’t always want to take it just because you could possibly get bound up on the bottom and the grip is not as much there, especially on late race restarts when you have laps on your tires. It seems like tire spin is really big. It seems like if you can, you want to get to the outside of somebody and get on their right rear corner and kind of suck them back and get that top lane rolling. It seems like that’s been best for me and what has worked for me in the past. There are still things that I can do better on restarts, but that is kind of something that has worked for me in the past and has kind of gotten us to finish up at the front like we have at all of these Kansas races.”

What did you have to learn about Kansas?

“I just think that something about that racetrack clicked for me from the first time I went on the track to practice. It seemed like I found pretty good speed. It just seemed like I could get around the place pretty well. The biggest thing for me that I had to learn was I had to learn different lines throughout a run. It seemed like I would stay on the bottom a lot and really want to wrap the bottom and stay on that white line. I had to kind of learn to move up the racetrack and when to move up the racetrack. I don’t want to move up to early, but at the same time you don’t want to move up too late. I kind of think that is something that I’ve done fairly decent at, especially last year with all of the times that we went to Kansas. If the truck is not really working for us, just be able to move around, find different lines, find different things that work for our Tundra, and then when we come down pit road, we can adjust on it and make it better. That way we can start running the bottom again or the middle or the top or whatever. Kansas is just one of those places that you need a truck that can move all over the racetrack and run different lines and for whatever reason, I’ve been able to do that, especially this last couple years.”

What has made Toyota so good in the Truck Series season?

“One of the things is we have more Toyota Tundras on the racetrack this year, that obviously helps. I just think that Toyota Racing, TRD (Toyota Racing Development), everybody back at Toyota – they are putting a lot of work into this season. They’ve put in a lot of work in years’ past, but this season it seems like there is a lot going on with things that I’ve been doing this year. We just have a lot of stuff going on this season it seems like. They are really trying to take Toyota to the next level. I’m glad to be a Toyota driver and us being undefeated is cool and all, but at the same time, I want to win too. Hopefully, we can put our name on that list of being a Toyota driver that gets another win and hopefully it happens at Kansas. Kansas is one of my best racetracks statistically, so hopefully we can go there and keep that momentum rolling with Toyota and we can finally get a win and get in that win column with all of the other Toyota drivers.”

Kyle Busch Motorsports has won the last four races. What’s the main key on trying to beat them?

“Just throughout the race being a little bit better. Just maybe being a little more aggressive with what I say on the radio to give Scott (Zipadelli, crew chief) the information he needs to make the adjustments that we need to be that much better. I feel like Tundra to Tundra wise, truck to truck, I feel like we are just as good as KBM (Kyle Busch Motorsports). It’s just fine tuning it a little bit at the end of the race to be that much better. There are things that we’ve been wanting to be a little bit better at and there’s things that we’ve touched up on that we want to improve on to give us a little more drive ability in the Tundras. I think that’s the biggest thing for us. When it comes down to the end of the race, just being able to make that extra little adjustment that makes us that much better that way we can go out there and outrun them.”

Looking ahead to Darlington, have you thought about a Playoff race could go there if the race in Canada gets cancelled?

“I don’t think it’s really going to change how we look at Darlington. We are still going to go there with the setup that we feel like we are confident that we can win with. Maybe after the race, if we feel like there is something that we needed to be better at, that we could improve on, we will obviously look at that. If it’s a track that we could possibly go back to, then the debriefing might be a little more in depth.- like if we come back here later in the year, what is the track going to look like, what are the track conditions possibly going to look like, stuff like that – just see what we can do to maybe be a little bit better. Darlington was a track that we were pretty good at last year. We needed to be a little bit better to win the race, but we felt like we were really good on the long run, we just needed to be a little bit better on the short run, so that is one of the key things we are going to work on this Darlington and see where it goes. I’d love to run Darlington again if we can. It’s one of those fun racetracks that we get to go to.”

Do you have any plans to run any Xfinity races this season?

“We are planning on running a few Xfinity races. I don’t know the number yet. I don’t really know exactly when the first one is going to be. We are going to run here, hopefully, in the next couple of months. We are planning on running a handful of them. I don’t know the number yet. It is probably going to be out of the HRE (Hattori Racing Enterprises) stable, which is awesome. I think I’m going to end up having Scott (Zipadelli, crew chief) and a lot of the guys from the truck side of it coming over to the Xfinity side to help with that, which is going to be cool. Just to be able to work with the same guys, we know the lingo we have with each other, we know what we need to say on the radio to make the right changes. I think we can run up front in the Xfinity Series. I think we can really compete and run inside the top-10 and potentially top-five. We actually did it last year I think it was at Kansas actually, running up front. We are capable of doing it, and hopefully, whenever we go out there for our first weekend, we can run up front and have a good showing.”

    Neme’chek’ The Facts:

    • After a week off, John Hunter Nemechek and the No. 4 Mobil 1 team roll into Kansas Speedway coming off their second win of the weekend at Richmond Raceway, where Nemechek was able to hold off a late-race charge from Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) driver-owner Kyle Busch. After six races, Nemechek continues to sit at the top of the Camping World Trucks championship standings, 20 tallies ahead of Ben Rhodes.
    • In NCWTS competition, Nemechek has three starts at the 1.5-mile track, where his best finish of third came in 2017. In 2020, Nemechek made two NASCAR Cup Series starts at Kansas with a best finish of 17th, which came in the October event. In 2018, Nemechek captured his first career win in the NASCAR Xfinity Series at Kansas.
    • KBM enters Saturday’s event having won the last four Camping World Truck Series races. Nemechek started the streak at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway in March and captured KBM’s most recent triumph at Richmond (Va.) Raceway. Busch was victorious at Atlanta and Martin Truex Jr. captured his first Truck Series victory at the Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway Dirt Track. It’s the fifth time in the organization’s history that they’ve collected four straight victories but have yet to make it more than four straight.
    • Nemechek is an eight-time winner in Camping World Truck Series action, winning at least one race each season from 2015 to 2018 for his family-owned team, NEMCO Motorsports, and returning to victory lane this year with KBM. Across 108 career starts in NASCAR’s third division, the second-generation driver has compiled two poles, 866 laps led, 32 top-five and 55 top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 12.9. The North Carolina native qualified for the Camping World Truck Series playoffs in each of his two full-time seasons, finishing eighth in the championship standings in both 2016 and 2017. He was voted the series most popular driver in 2015.
    • The 23-year-old driver produced three top-10 finishes and an average result of 22.4 while competing for rookie of the year honors in the NASCAR Cup Series in 2020. He recorded a career-best eighth-place finish twice, both coming at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, earned the Sunoco Rookie of the Race award four times and finished 23rd in the championship standings.
    • Eric Phillips returns to KBM to lead the No. 4 team this season. Phillips led the No. 18 team at KBM in its debut season in 2010 and helped build the organization into one of the premier teams in all of NASCAR before departing at the end of the 2014 season. Under his guidance, the No. 18 team won eight races in its inaugural campaign and became the first team in Truck Series history to capture an owner’s championship in its first season of competition. In 2014, the Illinois native led the No. 51 team to an owner’s championship and his team’s 10 wins spearheaded KBM to a single-season Truck Series record of 14 wins. His 39 career Truck Series victories make him the winningest crew chief in Truck Series history, with 29 of those coming while at KBM. At Kansas, Phillips has 10 starts with two wins coming with Mike Skinner (2009) and Kyle Busch (2014).

    John Hunter Nemechek, Driver Q&A:

Kansas was the site of your first NASCAR Xfinity Series win. Is it a place that’s special to you each time you go back?

“Going back to Kansas this weekend. It’s where I got my first NASCAR Xfinity Series win there in 2018. It’s a very special place for me and our family. My dad (Joe Nemechek) swept the weekend there in 2004, and I was able to be in victory lane as well as getting my first Xfinity win there. It’s a special place. It’s a really unique racetrack. I like going there. It’s one of my favorite racetracks to go to. I’m looking forward to this weekend.”

You haven’t raced a truck at Kansas since 2018, but the truck series had three races there last year. How much will you look at KBM’s notes from those races at Kansas last year?

“The trucks raced at Kansas three times last year. They have a lot of notes compiled from those three races. I haven’t been in a truck at Kansas since 2018. It’s unique circumstances. I don’t think it will slow us down. I am confident in my Mobil 1 team. I look forward to getting on track to see what we have. We just have to be consistent and go out and beat the boss.”

At the beginning of the season, Marcus Lemonis from Camping World announced that the team leading the point standings after Kansas would receive a $50,000 team bonus. You have a 20-point lead heading into this race. Are you looking forward to having that extra incentive on the line for your team Saturday?
“I’m definitely looking forward to having the incentive for the extra bonus for our team this weekend. We have to go and just hold the points lead. I hope that we can do so. We have a really strong team. I’m proud of all my guys. They’ve put in a lot of effort and work alongside everyone at KBM. Hopefully we can go out there and get it done!”

    • Gray on Kansas:

“Kansas is one of the few tracks on the Truck Series schedule where I actually have a good amount of experience heading into it. With racing there three times last season, I feel like we have a good notebook and I know what I need out of the truck to run well. It was cool to get a top-five there last year and I think we have a really good chance of breaking into the top-five or top-10 this weekend.”

    Date/Broadcast: May 1, 2021 at 7:30 p.m. ET on FS1, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR 90

Mr. Smith Goes to the Sunflower State:

    • Chandler Smith and the No. 18 Safelite AutoGlass team head to Kansas Speedway for Saturday’s Wise Power 200. The 18-year-old rookie is coming off his best finish of the season, a fourth-place result at Richmond (Va.) Raceway. Smith was out front for 24 laps before giving way to teammate and eventual race winner John Hunter Nemechek with 17 laps remaining and eventually sliding back two more spots in the closing laps with older tires on his Tundra.
    • The Georgia native will be making his second career Camping World Truck Series start at Kansas. He led one lap and finished fifth last October at the 1.5-mile track. During last year’s race, he posted an average running position of 6.0 and a driver rating of 111.3. Smith also has one ARCA Menards Series start in The Sunflower State, a 13th-place finish in 2020.
    • Smith comes into Saturday’s race 12th in the Camping World Truck Series championship standings. He currently sits 12 points behind Johnny Sauter for the 10th and final spot in the playoffs. In the Rookie of the Year standings, Smith sits second, 10 points behind Carson Hocevar. Smith’s fourth-place result at Richmond earned him the rookie of the race award, his third of the season.
    • The Toyota Racing Development driver has finished inside the top five in nine of his 22 career Camping World Truck Series starts, including a career-best runner-up finish at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway in 2019.
    • The talented teenager recorded nine wins, 10 poles and an average finish of 5.3 across 33 ARCA Menards Series starts the last three seasons. He captured the pole in his series debut at Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville (Tenn.) in April of 2018 and set an ARCA Menards Series record by winning four consecutive poles to start his career. He earned his first victory at Madison (Wis.) International Speedway in just his fourth series start in June of 2018. Despite running a part-time schedule, he led the series in laps led in both 2018 and 2019.
    • Veteran crew chief Danny Stockman will call the shots for Smith and the No. 18 team this season. Stockman led the No. 51 team to four wins in his first season atop the pit box at KBM in 2020. He came to the organization with experience as a crew chief in all three national series, including a Truck Series championship with Austin Dillon in 2011 and an Xfinity Series championship with Dillon in 2013. Stockman’s Camping World Truck Series drivers have totaled one top-five and three top-10 finishes across five starts at Kansas. Smith’s fifth-place result last October was his best result. In Xfinity Series action, his drivers recorded three top-five and four top-10 finishes across five starts, including runner-up finishes with Austin Dillon (2012) and Daniel Hemric (2018).
    • Safelite AutoGlass – the nation’s largest provider of vehicle glass repair, replacement, and recalibration services – will be the primary sponsor of Smith’s Tundra this weekend at Kansas and for 15 races total this season. Smith General Contracting and Katerra will be associate partners on the bedtop of the No. 18 Toyota for Saturday’s 134-lap event.

    Chandler Smith, Driver Q&A:

After some tough luck earlier in the year, how important was it for you and your team to have a top-5 finish at Richmond?
“It was definitely big getting that top five at Richmond. We’ve definitely had some horrible luck at the beginning of this season. I feel like things are starting to turn around and work in our favor. We’re going to start chipping away at it.”

As a young driver with no practice or qualifying, how much does it help going back to tracks you’ve already raced at?
“Considering I’ve already been to Kansas once in a Truck and that there is no practice here again, it’s going to be a big help that I was there last year. We were really strong. We are coming back with the same setup, so I’m really excited to get my Safelite AutoGlass Toyota Tundra out there and park it in victory lane!”

How does Kansas compare to the other 1.5-mile tracks you’ve raced at?
“Kansas is just different. Each mile-and-a-half track varies. It’s just a completely different track. The characteristics are that there is a lot of grip to where you can run the top or the bottom just depending on how your truck is. Last year, I was able to make the bottom work all race where everyone else was running the top and I ran the same speed. It’s a really cool track. I’m excited to go back. It’s one that I’ve had circled.”

    Chandler Smith Career Highlights:

    • Across 22 career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts has recorded 139 laps led, nine top-five and 11 top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 14.1.
    • Posted an average finish of 7.7 across his final seven of 12 total Truck Series starts in 2020, including third-place finishes in the series finale at Phoenix (Ariz.) Raceway and his first career superspeedway start at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway in October.
    • Produced three top-five and four top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 4.2 across his first four career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts in 2019. He led 55 laps and finished eighth in his Gander Trucks debut at Iowa Speedway last July and then posted top-five finishes in his final three starts, including a runner-up finish at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway.
    • Has collected nine wins, 10 poles, 1761 laps led, 22 top-five and 29 top-10 finishes en route to an average finish of 5.2 across 33 career ARCA Menards Series starts. Set an ARCA Racing Series record by winning four consecutive poles to start his career and earned his first victory after leading a race-high 102 laps at Madison (Wis.) International Speedway in his fourth series start.

    The Report on ‘Rowdy’:

    • Owner-driver Kyle Busch gets behind the wheel of the No. 51 Cessna Tundra Saturday for his fourth of five NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts in 2021. ‘Rowdy’ picked up his 60th career victory at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Ga., in March and in his other two starts, Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway and Richmond (Va.) Raceway, finished runner-up to Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) driver John Nemechek.
    • KBM enters Saturday’s event having won the last four Camping World Truck Series races. John Hunter Nemechek started the streak at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway in March and captured KBM’s most recent triumph at Richmond (Va.) Raceway.
    • Busch, the winningest driver in series history, enters Saturday’s event having won 37.9% (60/158) of the Truck Series races he has entered and finished first or second in 56.3% (89/158). Since the start of the 2018 season, ‘Rowdy’ has finished first (11) or second (five) in 16 of 18 Truck Series starts, resulting in average finish of 3.5 over that span.
    • The 35-year-old driver has two wins (2014 and 2017), three top-five and four top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 7.4 across five Camping World Trucks starts at Kansas. In addition to his pair of truck wins, Busch has one NASCAR Cup Series victory (2016, May) and four NASCAR Xfinity Series triumphs (2007, 2014, 2015 and 2016).
    • Mardy Lindley has guided the No. 51 Tundra team to two wins across six starts in his first season as a crew chief at Kyle Busch Motorsports. Before arriving at KBM, Lindley guided his drivers to 32 wins and four ARCA Menards Series East championships since 2013, including back-to-back titles with Sam Mayer the last two seasons. Additionally, he earned the ARCA Menards Series Sioux Chief Showdown championship with Mayer in 2020. Behind the wheel, the second-generation driver won 11 races on the Pro Cup Series from 2000 to 2006 and was crowned the series champion in 2001. Lindley’s lone race atop the pit box at Kansas resulted in a 17th-place finish with Zane Smith in the 2018 ARCA Menards Series.
    • After six events, the No. 51 ranks second in the Camping World Trucks owner standings, 10 tallies behind KBM’s No. 4 team. The No. 51 team has two wins, with Martin Truex Jr. at the Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway Dirt Track and Busch at Atlanta. The team also leads the series with 249 laps led. As an organization, KBM drivers have combined to lead 67.6% (552/816) of the total laps this season.
    • ‘Rowdy’ will pilot the No. 51 for the final time this season June 26 at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pa. Kyle Busch, Driver Q&A:
How do you balance new ideas Mardy (Lindley, crew chief) has versus the notebook KBM has already built?
“Myself with Mardy, we’ve been trying some things that he is used to and that can sometimes get you off a little bit on what setups might be or what the company’s direction might be. I think it’s on me to kind of bring that back in and say, ok we’ve tried those things and we do have a good overall baseline here at KBM that we can fall upon. Mardy is very receptive to that too, and I feel like it’s a good working relationship that he and I have. I’m the guinea pig, I’m the test dummy, they give me all the stuff that everyone wants to try and do, that they think would be more beneficial, and then we put it on my truck because I’m able to give back the most information. I’m able to tell you what is good and what is bad, and we can work on it from there. I feel like John Hunter is excelling with the stuff that they are doing, and I feel like we’re learning with the things that we are doing. It’s everyone at KBM working together to make the organization stronger.”

Corey Heim to Make Camping World Truck Series Debut at Darlington

Toyota Racing Development Driver Slated for Two Starts in the No. 51 Tundra in 2021

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (April 21, 2021) – Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) announced today that Corey Heim will make two starts behind the wheel of the organization’s No. 51 Tundra in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series this season. The 18-year-old driver will make his series debut May 7 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway with primary sponsorship from JBL, the authority in engineering superior sound. He will also compete in the Truck Series event Oct. 30 at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway with a yet to be named sponsor.

The Toyota Racing Development driver has won two of the last three ARCA Menards Series events: the 2020 season finale at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City and the 2021 season opener at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. Heim also produced a runner-up finish at Phoenix (Ariz.) Raceway this year and after two events leads fellow Toyota driver Ty Gibbs by two points in the championship standings. Across 18 career ARCA Menards starts, he has produced two wins, 136 laps led, 12 top-five and 17 top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 5.2.

In addition to his two ARCA Menards Series triumphs, Heim has found his way to victory lane in the Late Model Ranks the last few seasons. Most recently, the Georgia driver brought home a victory March 27 in the Super Late Model Georgia Spring Nationals at Crip Motorsports Park in Cordele, Ga. It was his second Super Late Model win at his home state track, where he also won CRA SpeedFest at the 3/8-mile track in 2020. On the CARS Tour, Heim has one Super Late Model win at South Boston (Va.) Speedway in 2018 and one Late Model Stock victory at Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway in 2020.

“I’m thankful to everyone at Kyle Busch Motorsports and Toyota for giving me the opportunity to make two starts in the Camping World Truck Series this year,” Heim said. “Not having any practice is going to make it exciting driving off into Turn 1 at Darlington with 39 other drivers for my first lap in a truck, but I’ve been able to make a lot of laps on the simulator at TRD and develop a relationship with Mardy (Lindley, crew chief), so I feel that I’m well prepared. The 51 team has had fast trucks everywhere they’ve been this season, and I’m confident that they’ll have a strong JBL Tundra at Darlington. I just need to learn throughout the race and be there at the end.”

“Corey is another driver in the Toyota Racing Development program that has proven that he can win in the ARCA Menards Series and earned this opportunity to drive for us in the Camping World Truck Series,” Busch said. “With no practice or qualifying, Darlington is going to be a tough place for his first start, but he’s been on the simulator at TRD working with Mardy (Lindley, crew chief) and our engineers and they’ve been very pleased with how it’s going.”

The No. 51 team led by first-year crew chief Mardy Lindley has scored two wins across six races this season. Owner-driver Kyle Busch led a race-high 102 laps en route to the victory at Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway and Martin Truex Jr. led 105 laps in the inaugural Truck Series event at the Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway Dirt Track.

NASCAR Driver Spencer Boyd Welcomes Highly Caffeinated Angry Brew Coffee as Sponsor

Mooresville, NC (April 20, 2021) – Spencer Boyd announced today that Angry Brew will be a 2021 sponsor of the No. 20 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series team highlighted with a primary paint scheme at Kansas Raceway. Angry Brew Coffee is a highly caffeinated coffee brand roasted by Michigan-based Five Lakes Coffee Company.

“My day starts early,” said Spencer Boyd. “I’m up at 6am to work out before I start my work day. I need to be clear-headed quickly so I was searching for a coffee that would kick-start my day even before the first cup finished. Angry Brew is the coffee for me because it wakes me up quickly without feeling weird. It just so happens that they have a cool brand that looks amazing on a race truck.”

Five Lakes Coffee co-founders and brothers Paul & Jared have been asked for ‘coffee with a punch’ many times over the years. If you’re getting a cup of coffee at one of their cafes, the quick fix is to add a shot of espresso to your coffee but what about brewing highly caffeinated coffee at home? Angry Brew is the solution! Angry Brew is a dark roast, started with Fair Trade Certified Organically Grown green coffee beans and blended with Robusta coffee beans to achieve a high caffeine content naturally, then roasted in a custom blend to produce a well-balanced and delicious coffee.

Co-Owner of Five Lakes Coffee, Paul Smith, commented on the partnership with Spencer Boyd, “We love NASCAR and know the fans will love Angry Brew right back. We have developed a ‘Coffee with a Punch’ for the men and women that provide for their families day in and day out. Spencer embodies the hard-working mentality of our customers and has the authentic social media that we were looking for in a partner. There is a quote from a movie… ‘Don’t Drive Angry’, well in this case we want Spencer to drive Angry!”

Having grown up outside of St. Louis, Spencer Boyd calls Kansas Speedway his second home track. The No. 20 Angry Brew Chevrolet Silverado out of the Youngs Motorsports stable will be ready to do battle when the trucks head to the Midwest on May 1.
