  • Dylan Lupton Returns to DGR-Crosley Starting at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Dylan Lupton Returns to DGR-Crosley Starting at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

MOORESVILLE, N.C.: DGR-Crosley announced today that Wilton, Calif., native Dylan Lupton (@LuptonDylan) will return to the team for a minimum of three NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series (NGROTS) races this season beginning with Friday night’s World of Westgate 200 at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway.

In addition to Las Vegas, Lupton will drive the No. 17 Ford F-150 at Texas Motor Speedway on Sun., Oct. 25 and the season finale at Phoenix (Ariz.) Raceway on Fri., Nov. 6.

Ten-time NGROTS veteran winning crew chief Marcus Richmond will lead Lupton’s efforts.

Additionally, Lupton will return to the ARCA Menards Series and compete in its season finale at Kansas Speedway for DGR-Crosley on Fri., Oct. 16.

“I am excited to return to DGR-Crosley for a few races this season,” said Lupton. “We had success together last season and I’m confident that we can build on that starting at Las Vegas and hopefully contend for wins throughout my schedule.”

DGR-Crosley co-owner David Gilliland is looking forward to Lupton’s return.

“We are happy to have Dylan back with us at DGR-Crosley for a few NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series races this year,” offered Gilliland. “We had some good races with him last year, especially at the mile-and-a-half tracks, so we’re looking forward to seeing what he can do with Marcus (Richmond, crew chief). I think they will be a solid combination and have great potential.”
Lupton is no stranger to NASCAR.

A NASCAR Next alumnus, Lupton has experience in all three of NASCAR’s national series levels, including four starts in the NASCAR Cup Series. The Californian also has 35 NASCAR Xfinity Series starts under his belt.

A two-time winner in the ARCA Menards Series West division, Lupton had a six-race Truck Series opportunity with DGR-Crosley last year and earned one top-five and three top-10 finishes, including a career-best fifth at Kentucky Speedway and additional top-10 efforts at Chicagoland (Ill.) Speedway and Las Vegas.

His sixth race of the season at Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway last November was cut short after inclement weather canceled qualifying and left Lupton on the sidelines despite practicing inside the top five.

“I feel like we still have some unfinished business from Homestead last year,” added Lupton. “DGR-Crosley brought me a fast truck, but unfortunately rain kept us from making the race. Hopefully, we can go to Las Vegas and finish what we started and have a successful race.”

While juggling an aggressive racing schedule, Lupton, 26, also graduated in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Finance from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

A partnership announcement for Lupton at Las Vegas is forthcoming.

2020 GMS Racing Gander Trucks Bristol Recap

Sheldon Creed, No. 2 Chevy Accessories Chevrolet Silverado

    START: 8th
    FINISH: 12th
    POINTS: 2nd

    Notes & Quotes:—

    – Sheldon Creed lined up eighth for Thursday night’s event and worked his way up third by the conclusion of Stage One. The team elected to stay out to during the stage break to keep track position. Creed pitted during the Lap 83 caution, but was forced to start at the tail end of the field due to a speeding penalty. The team was forced to pit again during the Lap 157 caution to fix damage to the back bumper of Creed’s Silverado. Creed rebounded in the limited laps remaining in the race to finish 11th.

    – Creed is currently second in the playoff standings, eight points behind the leader and 28 points above the Round of 8 cutoff line.

“This wasn’t the night we wanted, that’s for sure. We had some speed early on and scored some points there in the first stage, but got shuffled back in the pack a few times and had to come back through the field. My guys work every single week and we’ll put tonight behind us and go to Vegas next week and go after a win there.”

Zane Smith, No. 21 Chevy Accessories Chevrolet Silverado

    START: 6th
    FINISH: 16th
    POINTS: 3rd

    Notes & Quotes:—

    – Zane Smith started sixth at Bristol Motor Speedway and ran inside the top five for most of the first stage, finishing fourth in Stage One. The team elected to pit during the break for four tires and fuel. Smith was consistent during Stage Two and the team did not pit during the Stage Two break to keep their fourth place position on track.Smith was running inside the top five with 15 laps to go when the handling on his Silverado went away and he fell through the field to finish 16th.

    – Smith is currently third in the playoff standings, 11 points behind the leader and 25 points above the cutoff line for the Round of 8.

“I can’t give you an honest answer as to why we fell back. All of a sudden with 15 to go I just wasn’t able to turn in both ends. It was really bad in one and two, with the same feeling as a right front going down. I was just waiting to knock down the fence. I couldn’t turn at all and we were fading quick, I was just doing everything I could to hold them off. I appreciate Chevrolet for all they do and the whole Gallagher family. GMS has been working really hard, we ran really good tonight. It just sucks to bring home a 16th-place finish when we ran top five all night.”

Brett Moffitt, No. 23 GMS Racing Chevrolet Silverado

    START: 2nd
    FINISH: 2nd
    POINTS: 1st

    Notes & Quotes:—

    – Brett Moffitt started second at Bristol Motor Speedway, but took over the lead on the opening lap of the race and would hold the lead for the entire first stage, claiming his sixth stage win of the season. The team elected to pit during the stage break for four tires, fuel and a trackbar adjustment to help a tight condition. Moffitt raced within the top five for most of the next stage, finishing third in Stage Two. Moffitt regained the lead on Lap 114, but fell to second with 30 laps to go in the race and ultimately finished second.

    – Moffitt led twice for 117 laps, the most laps he has led in a single race in his career. Moffitt was part of a trio of GMS Racing drivers that combined to lead every lap of the race.

    – This is Moffitt’s seventh consecutive top-10 finish. Thisis Moffitt’s fourth second-place finish this season.

    – Moffitt currently leads the playoff standings with an eight point lead over second place, 36 points above the Round of 8 cutoff line.

“Last year having fifty lap older tires probably wouldn’t have been a problem, but this year they just were wearing out more. We corded the left front on the first stage. Tires got us again for sure, but we had a super fast Chevy Silverado. We need some sponsors on it, as you can see! I’m proud of everyone at GMS for bringing, not just mine, but Sam and Sheldon and Zane. We all have fast trucks in the playoffs here and that’s what we need. We need to have four trucks at Phoenix racing for a championship and this is a good start for us.”

Sam Mayer, No. 24 All Weather Armour Chevrolet Silverado

    START: 17th
    FINISH: 1st

    Notes & Quotes:—

    – Sam Mayer started 17th for Thursday night’s Gander Trucks event and had worked his way into the top 10 early on, finishing seventh in Stage One. The team pitted during the break to take tape off the grill and go one round down on the trackbar. Mayer battled inside the top 10 during the second stage, finish fifth in Stage Two. Mayer reported he was a little free and the team pitted for tires and an air pressure adjustment during the stage two break. Mayer took the lead with 30 to go and would go on to win the race.

    – This is Mayer’s first career Gander Trucks win.

    – Mayer becomes the second youngest winner in Gander Trucks history at the age of 17 years, 2 months, 22 days. Mayer becomes the youngest Gander Trucks winner at Bristol Motor Speedway.

    – Mayer led once for 30 laps. Mayer was part of a trio of GMS Racing drivers that combined to lead every lap of the race.

    – Mayer will return to the No 24 Silverado at Martinsville Speedway in October.

“Bristol dude! I love this place. This is win number three for me here. I don’t what to say. I can’t thank all the guys at the shop enough. They work their tails off. We fired off so good. We only made one trackbar adjustment all day. That feels so good! I knew the team was capable, everyone that was part of this 24 Armour Guard team. I knew they could do it, I just had to come here and perform. That last pit stop put us in a perfect place and we were able to drive right by all of them. That is such a good feeling. We have two more truck races this year and the momentum is awesome.”

Tyler Ankrum, No. 26 LiUNA! Chevrolet Silverado

    START: 7TH
    FINISH: 7TH
    POINTS: 5TH

    Notes & Quotes:—

    – Tyler Ankrum started seventh for Thursday night’s Gander Trucks race. Ankrum was quick out of the gate and finished Stage One in the second position. Ankrum inherited the lead by staying out during the first stage break. Ankrum led every single lap in Stage Two and claimed his first stage win of his Gander Trucks career. The team had a miscue under caution and pitted late, putting Ankrum back in traffic on the restart. Ankrum battled back to earn his first top-10 finish at Bristol Motor Speedway.

    – This is Ankrum’s eighth top-10 finish of the 2020 season.

    – Ankrum led once for 53 laps. Ankrum is part of a trio of GMS Racing drivers that combined to win every lap of the race.

    – Ankrum climbed to fifth in the playoff standings, 19 points above the cutoff line for the Round of 8.

“We had a really fast LiUNA Silverado tonight. I’m proud of my guys for all the work they put in. We got a lot of a stage points, but I feel like we gave the win away with that one mistake getting to pit road. We earned a lot of points and improved our standing heading into Vegas.”

    TOYOTA QUOTES

CHRISTIAN ECKES, No. 18 Safelite Auto Glass Toyota Tundra, Kyle Busch Motorsports
    Finishing Position: 13th

Solid stage points, but not the finish you wanted. How was your race as a whole tonight?

“We tried hard. We just didn’t make it happen I guess. Had an okay Safelite Tundra at times, just fought track position all night and really wasn’t good enough to pass. I’m ready for Vegas. Thankfully, we don’t have to come to Bristol next week.”

You ran really strong at Las Vegas in the spring. What is your focus for that race?

“Just building on our last race. We ran really well there. Of course, we got in a crash, but I thought we had a Tundra to at least run second to Kyle (Busch), if not, win. We will try to hit it hard this week and try to figure it out, because we definitely missed it this week. On to the next one.” .”

AUSTIN HILL, No. 16 United Rentals Toyota Tundra, Hattori Racing Enterprises
    Finishing Position: 26th

Obviously a disappointing race filled with issues from the early laps, but how do you and your team rebound and head to Vegas for next week’s race?

“I think we could have run in the top-10 tonight with our United Rentals Toyota Tundra, but we had a brake issue all race long. We’re not sure if it was from the damage early in the race or if we had another issue. We’ll go back and evaluate what happened and be ready to try to get a win at Las Vegas. We have a good history at Vegas so I’m ready to get there and see if we can get to victory lane.”

NGROTS Advance: Tanner Gray – Bristol Motor Speedway

Track: Bristol Motor Speedway, 0.533-mile oval
    Race: 17 of 23
    Event: UNOH 200 (106.6 miles, 200 laps)

    Schedule:
    Thursday, Sept. 17
    7:30 p.m…………..Race (FS1)
    (all times ET)

Tanner Gray, No. 15 Ford Performace F-150

Tanner Gray has never raced at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway in the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series (NGROTS) until this week, but he does have a few races under his firesuit belt at the half-mile oval. Gray has two prior starts in what was the NASCAR K&N East Series (now ARCA East) last year, resulting in two top-10 finishes. He was 10th in the spring race and improved to sixth in the fall race.

In 16 Truck Series races this season, Gray has two top-five, five top-10 finishes, has led four laps and sits 14th in the driver point standings. He finished 16th last week at Richmond (Va.) Raceway after using the same pit strategy as a majority of the field, waiting for a late-race caution that never came to take his last set of tires.

Although Gray does have experience at Bristol, he will have to make the transition from what it was like driving a car versus a truck. Being a short track, aerodynamics should not be as big of a factor as at other tracks, but he will likely spend the early laps adjusting his line and braking points.

The UNOH 200 from Bristol Motor Speedway will be run on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 7:30 p.m. ET. The race will be broadcast live on FS1. The 200-lap race will be broken into three segments with stage-ending cautions on laps 55 and 110.

Gray on Bristol: “I’m looking forward to going back to Bristol. I had fun racing there in the K&N race last year. I’ve spent time watching film of recent Truck Series races at Bristol and talking to my spotter, Kevin Hamlin, about different lines to try. Things happen really fast there, so you have to be on your toes every lap. The only time you get a chance to catch your breath is under caution, and the goal at Bristol is to not be the caution.”

Todd Gilliland, No. 38 Speedco Ford F-150

Thursday night’s NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series (NGROTS) race at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway kicks off the 2020 Playoffs Round of 10. For the first time in his Truck Series career, Todd Gilliland is one of the 10 drivers qualified to compete for the championship. He is seeded ninth, 23 points behind first place and one point above 10th. Making the playoffs is also special since Front Row Motorsports (FRM) is new to the Truck Series and made the Round of 10 in its first attempt with Gilliland in the No. 38 Ford F-150.

Gilliland is happy to have Bristol as the first race of the playoffs. He used to not enjoy racing there, but since winning a NASCAR K&N East (now ARCA East) race there in 2018, it pumped up his confidence at the half-mile oval. Since then has has one top-five and two top-10 finishes in his two NGROTS starts there.

In 16 starts this season, Gilliland has four top-five, nine top-10 finishes and has led 92 laps in the No. 38 Ford F-150 for FRM. This Thursday, Speedco will be back as the primary sponsor for Gilliland.

Speedco, part of the Love’s family of companies, will be back on Gilliland’s No. 38 Ford F-150 at Bristol. Love’s provides professional truck drivers and motorists with 24-hour access to clean and safe places to purchase gasoline, diesel fuel, fresh coffee, restaurant offerings and more. The UNOH 200 from Bristol Motor Speedway will be run on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 7:30 p.m. ET. The race will be broadcast live on FS1. The 200-lap race will be broken into three segments with stage-ending cautions on laps 55 and 110.

    Quick Facts:
Number of Truck Series Starts at Bristol: 2
    Best Start: 8th (2018)
    Best Finish: 5th (2018)
2020 Driver Point Standings: 9th in the Round of 10 Playoffs

Gilliland on Bristol: “I’m really excited about going back to Bristol. I won a K&N race there a couple years back. I never really had good runs there before that, so it gave me a lot of confidence walking into the gate there. It’s a very intimidating race track. You are going super fast on the banking and things feel like they happen twice as fast. You really have to be on top of things all night long and if you lose focus for one second, which is really easy there, you can get yourself in a lot of trouble. We’re looking for a solid night there to gain maximum points.”
