Plan B Sales Announces Spencer Boyd Partnership and 2020 Diecast

Concord, NC (August 19, 2020) – One of NASCAR’s most fan-friendly drivers, Spencer Boyd, has partnered up with Plan B Sales for primary sponsorship at the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series Championship race in Phoenix. As the race is close to Veteran’s Day, Boyd will run a patriotic paint scheme that fans can have their name or a Veteran’s name printed on the truck bed. The exact scheme with names will also be made into a diecast as a tribute to all that have served.

“I love diecasts,” said Boyd. “For me, I look at the ones I collected growing up then at the ones of cars I’ve actually raced. It’s a bit surreal still honestly. This one with Plan B (Sales) means a lot because we are honoring military Veterans and the fans get to have names on there. We couldn’t race without our freedoms or people watching, so it’s really cool especially after this season where our perspectives got shifted a bit.”

Plan B Sales is a one-stop-shop for the public and a stocking distributor of licensed motorsports products. They are also Lionel’s largest account serving the motorsports market. Collectibles ranging from diecasts, replica helmets, Sam Bass artwork, and much more can be found at their shop in Concord, NC or online at www.planbsales.com. Additionally, a great partner to teams and drivers, Plan B is no stranger to sponsorship at many levels of racing and this is the first partnership with Spencer Boyd.

“Spencer and I have talked for a couple years on putting something together,” mentioned Brent Powell, owner of Plan B Sales. “His first diecast of the Grunt Style No. 76 flew off the shelves and his winning truck from Talladega sold out. We are fellow Missourians as well so we are cut from the same cloth. It’s fulfilling to help such a hard-working driver while being able to put a great business deal around it.”

In his fifth year of NASCAR competition Spencer Boyd is known for supporting our military through the years. Boyd commented, “From the days where active military or Veterans could write their name on my car with a Sharpie to this one, I’d love to see some of the familiar names as well as some new ones be memorialized on this truck.”

Toyota Racing – NGROTS Dover Quotes – Derek Kraus – 08.20.20

    Toyota Racing – Derek Kraus

NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series Quotes

DOVER, Delaware (August 20, 2020) – McAnally-Hilgemann Racing driver Derek Kraus was made available to media via videoconference in advance of the race at the Dover International Speedway:

DEREK KRAUS, No. 19 ENEOS Toyota Tundra, McAnally-Hilgemann Racing

How excited are you to get back to the Monster Mile this weekend?

“I’m really looking forward to it. I know we have had a start there last year, so this is one of the very few tracks that I’ve been to on the circuit without getting any practice. We’ve got a little bit of experience. I feel like that will help me a lot.”

You are a Rookie in the Truck Series. What have you learned the most in your rookie campaign?

“Just to be patient learning all of these new tracks. It’s definitely different because we are not getting any practice or qualifying. Patience and learning on what the truck will do in traffic and being there at the end of the race.”

What has been the most rewarding part of this season thus far?

“Just getting good top-10 finishes. That has been really rewarding. Kansas, we had a really good weekend with it being a doubleheader, racing on Friday and Saturday was really rewarding. We finished fifth and then seventh, which was really cool for our MHR (McAnally-Hilgemann Racing) team. I’m really looking forward to this weekend in Dover and I feel like we have a pretty good truck.”

Take us through a lap at Dover.

“It’s definitely a different race track, it’s kind of like – people say it’s like a rollercoaster and it’s definitely like that just because of how fast it is, how much downforce is on your body when you are going through corners. The g-forces are crazy. It really feels like something is pushing on your back really hard. It’s just a different race track, something that you don’t really experience. The only thing you can really compare it too is a bigger Bristol.”

What are you doing to prepare for Dover?

“You can prepare as much as you want by watching film, going on iRacing, or going on the simulator. I’ve been able to go on the Toyota simulator, so that’s really helpful. iRacing, or watching film, that’s really the only thing that you can do to prepare, and once you are on the race track, I feel like you just have to go out there and take everything you have learned and put it to use.”

Four races to go before the Playoffs start. How much pressure are you putting on yourself to get in?

“There is a lot of pressure, but I feel like if we do everything that we are supposed to do, go out and get stage points and get good finishes, I feel like the points will take care of themselves. If we are in, we are in. If we are not, we are not. I feel like this year we have had a lot of good runs, and we have proved that we can compete with these guys.”

Your team is housed with Hattori Racing Enterprises. How has that been being able to bounce some ideas off of them?
“That’s definitely been very helpful for us. We’ve been able to bounce ideas off each other and just being there because it’s our first season. We can take ideas from them and put them on our track. They are very helpful, and I feel like all of the guys that work on my truck at MHR work really hard on it. They are learning quick and they are really good at what they do.”

The choose rule is back this weekend. What are you doing to prepare for that?

“For me, that wasn’t really anything new to me because I’ve been doing that for quite a few years in the late models back home in Wisconsin. In Wisconsin, they have the choose cone in every single race. You just kind of look and see which lane is shorter and which lane has more of an advantage. Like at Michigan, you saw everyone go to the top, and I believe at Dover, you will probably go to the bottom. There’s definitely a lot more planning. There’s a lot more that goes into the restarts to make sure you pick the right lane.”

With you born in 2001, when Jimmie Johnson started in the Cup Series, what has his impact been on you and your age group?

“I feel like Jimmie, he won so many championships in a row, that was really impressive. I feel like that’s someone that me as a younger driver can always look up to. He always handles himself with all he does off of the track with all of the training and everything that he does on and off the track. He’s really good at what he does and is someone you can look up to. I think it’s really cool what the Hendrick (Motorsports) cars are doing with the 24 (William Byron) and 88 (Alex Bowman) with doing the throwback schemes to Jimmie. I feel like that’s really cool, and really neat to see.”

NGROTS Advance: Todd Gilliland – Dover International Speedway

‌Track: Dover International Speedway, one-mile oval
    Race: 13 of 23
Event: KDI Office Technology 200 (200 miles, 200 laps)

    Schedule:
    Friday, August 21
    5:00 p.m………….Race (FS1)

    (all times ET)

Todd Gilliland, No. 38 The Pete Store Ford F-150

With only four races remaining before the playoffs, Todd Gilliland has his work cut out for him this Friday at Dover (Del.) International Speedway. After an alternator issue left him in 33rd place last weekend at the Daytona road course, he is now only two points above the cut line for the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series (NGROTS) playoffs. A win at Dover would lock him in, but more bad luck could leave him on the outside looking in.

Gilliland has three NGROTS starts at The Monster Mile with a best finish of 10th in 2018. He also has three starts there in K&N East competition with a best finish of third last year.

This Friday the Front Row Motorsports team will be taking the same Ford F-150 Gilliland raced in the doubleheader races at Kansas Speedway in July where he finished 10th and 20th after a flat tire late in the race.

Gilliland will have a new sponsor on his truck this weekend. The Pete Store is a growing network of Peterbilt truck dealerships, with locations spanning the Eastern United States. Through their exclusive Peterbilt dealerships they offer sales of new and pre-owned trucks, truck parts, body shops, and truck service. A recipient of numerous awards, including Peterbilt North American Dealer of the Year (2004, 2016 and 2018), The Pete Store is a respected dealer in the transportation industry with a track record for quality support.

The KDI Office Technology 200 from Dover International Speedway will be run on Friday, Aug. 21 at 5 p.m. ET. The race will be broadcast live on FS1. The 200-lap race will be broken into three segments with stage-ending cautions on laps 45 and 90.

    Quick Facts:
Number of Truck Series Starts at Dover: 3
    Best Start: 3rd (2018)
    Best Finish: 10th (2018)
2020 Driver Point Standings: 10th (+2 above playoff cut line)

Gilliland on Dover: “I’ve run about four, or five races at Dover between K&N and Trucks and I think I’ve finished one race. We’re definitely looking to have a good run this weekend. Every one of these races is super important where we are right now on the bubble for the playoff cut line. I have to clear my memory and go into Dover with a clean slate every time to not be intimidated from past results. I know our Front Row Motorsports team is capable of bringing a truck with winning speed, but it’s about being able to wrap the bottom early and maybe move up if there are opportunities to do that. I’d say just carrying a lot of speed is the number one goal through the turns.”

  • CREED TAKES FIRST NASCAR GANDER RV & OUTDOORS TRUCK SERIES RACE AT STORIED DAYTONA ROAD COURSE

CREED TAKES FIRST NASCAR GANDER RV & OUTDOORS TRUCK SERIES RACE AT STORIED DAYTONA ROAD COURSE

Outduels GMS Racing Teammate Brett Moffitt in Green-White-Checkered Finish

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Aug. 16, 2020) – History was yet again the topic of conversation Sunday early afternoon at Daytona International Raceway as the NASCAR Gander RV and Outdoors Truck Series made its debut on the iconic DAYTONA Road Course. When the checkered flag waved, Sheldon Creed placed his name in the record book, holding off teammate GMS Racing Brett Moffitt in a two-lap dash for glory in overtime.

Creed, who picked up his second triumph of the season, late in the event built up over a six-second lead on the storied 3.61-mile, 14-turn tri-oval/road course made famous by the Rolex 24 At DAYTONA, North America’s most prestigious sports car race. Within the last five laps, however, he had to hold off a furious charge by Moffitt, after two caution flags flew to win high-intensity event.

“It was nerve-wracking,” said Creed of the late-race cautions. “You never want to see those cautions, especially when you have been able to build up a big lead. One came out….and another came out again. I was confident and Brett matched me (on the restarts). Luckily, I was on the bottom going into the first turn (of the infield road course)…he is good and has a lot of experience….I owe a lot to him. He has helped me a lot in the last year and a half. To beat him is really rewarding. The $50 grand –  that is cool, too.”

The “$50 grand” Creed spoke of was part of the Triple Truck Challenge program. If he can win the next two Gander Truck Series races at Dover and World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, IL, he will take home a total bonus of $500,000.

Matt Crafton and Austin Hill Sunday third, followed rookie Raphael Lessard. Rounding out the top 10 were Tyler Ankrum, Grant Enfinger, Parker Kligerman, Scott Lagasse, Jr. and Stewart Friesen.

Creed led twice for 29 laps, including the final 22. Average speed was 81.435 mph and the margin of victory was .743 seconds. There was 10 lead changes among six drivers, and five cautions for seven laps. Time of the race was two hours, two minutes and 21 seconds.

Hill remains atop the title standings and Moffitt, although still winless in ’20, sits second. Wins guarantee a spot in the season-ending NASCAR Gander Trucks Playoffs but he made gains with his finish and sits 84 on the plus side.

The historic weekend of racing on the DAYTONA Road Course concludes Sunday afternoon with the NASCAR Cup Series’ Go Bowling 235, the first time NASCAR’s elite series are competing on a road course in Daytona since 1958. From 1949-58, the Cup Series – then called the Grand National Division – raced on the old Daytona beach-road course. A year later in ’59, Daytona International Speedway opened, and from that point on, the Cup cars competed on the high banks of the 2.5-mile tri-oval.

NASCAR returns to Daytona International Speedway in two weeks with a doubleheader weekend featuring the NASCAR Xfinity Series – Wawa 250 Powered by Coca-Cola on Friday, Aug. 28 – and the Coke Zero Sugar 400 NASCAR Cup Series race on Saturday, Aug. 29. It will be the final race of the regular season to set the 2020 Cup Series Playoffs.

A limited number of fans will get the opportunity to see the Coke Zero Sugar 400. Fans can get tickets, which start at $49 (both races included) for adults and $10 for kids 12 years old and younger, by visiting www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com or calling 1-800-PIT-SHOP.

Daytona International Speedway is the home of “The Great American Race” – the DAYTONA 500. Though the season-opening NASCAR Cup Series event garners most of the attention – as well as the largest audience in motorsports – the approximately 500-acre motorsports complex, also known as the “World Center of Racing,” boasts the most diverse schedule of racing on the globe. In addition to at least nine major event weekends, the Speedway grounds are also used extensively for events that include concerts, civic and social gatherings, car shows, photo shoots, production vehicle testing and police motorcycle training.

    TOYOTA QUOTES

RAPHAEL LESSARD, No. 4 Mobil1 Toyota Tundra, Kyle Busch Motorsports

    Finishing Position: 3rd

Can you describe your race today?

“It was an awesome day for us. My Mobil1 Toyota Tundra was awesome. Can’t thank everyone at Kyle Busch Motorsports enough. That’s what we’ve been working on all year, finishes like this. It hasn’t been easy for a rookie with all that’s going on, but I made a mistake when I was leading – pushed a little too hard. We never gave up and we fought back. It’s a little hotter here than Quebec, I can tell you that.”

What was the race like today overall?

“It was awesome. First of all, I want to thank my team, Kyle Busch Motorsports and my crew chief, Mike Hillman, Jr. We sat down before the race and studied some in-car from yesterday’s Xfinity race and I think it helped a ton. I learned a lot watching videos of on-boards from yestrday. The race was awesome. It was kind of a weird situation because no one has been here before in NASCAR and I felt like that’s what it’s been like for me every race so far this year. Being a rookie with no practice, every time I get into turn one, the first lap is a first for me. I think it was an advantage going into this race for me because I’m used to it and I can’t thank TRD for allowing us to go to the TRD simulator and practice on the road course. All of that made a big difference for me.”

How difficult was it to be racing for the lead and racing on a new circuit for the series?

“It was pretty difficult. I felt like in the lead, you had to push pretty hard to keep up with the guy behind you. One time I went a little bit harder than the lap before and with the heat on the tire and the brakes, I felt like it got a lot slicker there at the end and it kind of surprised me because I thought I was going to be able to make the corner. I stopped really quick, came back and made a couple other mistakes, but we regrouped. We never gave up and just kept pushing hard at the end. Had a good strategy and that’s what it’s all about, just never giving up and keeping on working. I don’t think we could have had a shot at it at the end. The 2 (Sheldon Creed) truck was really fast. I think maybe, but I was trying to be a little bit conservative and trying to bring my Mobil1 Toyota Tundra home.”

How were you able to combat the heat during the race?

“It was really hot. During the caution I asked for a bunch of water. I was just throwing water at myself, but TRD has a gym and I can’t thank everyone, my coach, Caitlyn, we all work really hard during the week in the gym to be good in those situations. Just trying to be ready physically and mentally and that’s what I was. At the end, I think it was the hottest I’ve been in a race car. We pushed through it.”

How much momentum do you have with this team after some strong runs lately?

“I feel like we’re a little bit on a roll now. We had a pretty good week last week in Michigan. I felt like Michigan we had a winning truck there, but we had two flat tires. Came back and now I feel like we had a winning truck again and we finished third. It’s just about working hard. I’ve been wanting those results since the beginning of the season and we just keep on working. I think it’s coming. We’re going to push hard. At Dover, I think with the new rules, we’re going to start pretty close to the front so that’s going to help us and especially that I’ve been there before. Last year was my second truck race there with Kyle Busch Motorsports. I think we’re ready. I love Dover, it’s awesome and track position is super important. It’s going to be good for sure.”

Do you feel you’re close to getting a victory?

“We’re a team capable of winning for sure, I feel like I’m doing everything I can. I’m studying video, I’m asking questions – Kyle Busch is helping a lot. It’s just a matter of time. We’re pushing hard for it. At this point of the season, we’re not going for stage points, we’re going for the win. That’s what we’ve been doing the last few races and we’ve had our best finishes. We’re just going to keep on working and heading the right direction.”

What did you think of the performance by your teammate, Alex Tagliani?

“First of all, I want to apologize to him (Alex Tagliani) for the restart. It was pretty crazy. I don’t know if I spun him out, but I hit him pretty good in turn one because I got hit from behind on the one restart. I’ve been talking to him a lot and he was a good help the last few days. It was fun to speak a little bit of French because I moved to North Carolina and my family can’t come visit me at all this year so it’s been English, English, English. It’s good, it’s helping me. I think he did a good job. I was expecting to see him up front for sure because he is a super good road course racer and he’s got way more experience than me. I don’t know exactly where he finished, but good job to him.”

AUSTIN HILL, No. 16 TRD Toyota Tundra, Hattori Racing Enterprises

    Finishing Position: 5th

How was your race overall today?

“It was a really tough race today. We were fighting the heat and the elements of this race track. Very easy to lock rear brakes up and have some wheel chatter getting into entry of the corners. Whoever could get their braking down straight before they ever entered the corner, that was the guy that was the one to beat. It took me the first full stage to kind of figure out how I wanted to position my truck on entry in each corner. That way I could keep the rears up under me and have a good turn into the corner. It seemed like I kept getting better and better at doing that. We stayed out there at the end of stage two to get some stage points. We thought we were going to have a shot at the stage win. I don’t know if the 2 (Sheldon Creed) had an issues or if he just thought it was the end of the stage. We were able to run him down and race him for that stage win. I know the 2 ended up winning on the same strategy that we were on but we just got into some prediciments that kind of pushed us back on restarts. Restarting on the outside lane getting into one was tough, just to stay there. You would wash out a bit just because of the grip wasn’t as good getting into (turn) one. I think we restarted on the outside lane a lot today. That kind of hurt us and we would fall back. Passing was actually really tough even though this track is a big race track. It was very, very tough to pass in the infield. You really have to set your truck up off of turn six to outbrake them down into the backstretch bus stop. That’s really where our best corner was all day – was getting through that bus sto. We could get through there on entry to center way faster than anyone else and still be able to carry the momentum up off of that corner, but we just had some moments where track position hurt us. We felt like we had a Tundra that could win today. We just kept getting put in predictiments where we couldn’t just quite get up front and race those guys.”

How did you prepare for this race?

“I was able to go and do some simulation with Toyota and TRD, so that was really nice to be able to do that. I learned a lot for the start of the race, so I wasn’t completely blind. When I wasn’t doing that, I was doing a lot of iRacing stuff. I was seeing how my braking could be done. I don’t really come from road racing background, but I’ve always felt like I get around road courses fairly decent. I haven’t got that win on the road courses yet, and that’s probably one biggest things that I want to accomplish, someday soon, is to be able to get that road course win, because I feel like I can do good enough around the road courses with my braking and everything else that I’ve learned over the years to have a shot at winning a road course. The preparation is just a lof of watching videos from IMSA races, and then it helped us watching the Xfinity Series race yesterday. That was a big help, just seeing how they would attack the corners. It just helped us when the race started. Also, we had a really cool retro Tundra today. Maybe next time, we can come race here again and get the W.”

STEWART FRIESEN, No. 52 Halmar ‘Racing To Beat Hunger’ Toyota Tundra, Halmar Friesen Racing

    Finishing Position: 10th

How were you able to make it back to the top-10 after some challenges early in the race?

“It was a lot of fun. I love it. It was a lot of fun. We had an alternator fail right from the get go. Trip (Bruce, crew chief) made a great call to come in and get it changed before too many guys were down a lap. We got our lap back, and then just tried to race the race track. Be cautious, but be aggressive. It was probably one of the most rewarding top-10’s of my life. I’m shocked, but proud of the whole Halmar Toyota team. I’m really happy to get out of there with a top-10.”
