    Toyota Racing – Austin Hill

NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series Quotes

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida (August 14, 2020) – Hattori Racing Enterprises driver Austin Hill was made available to media via videoconference in advance of the race at the Daytona International Speedway Road Course:

AUSTIN HILL, No. 16 TRD Toyota Tundra, Hattori Racing Enterprises

Can you talk us through your preparation for the Daytona Road Course?

“I’m very excited to get out there and hit the race track. It’s going to be interesting with really nobody ever being around that place and having no practice. That’s going to be pretty wild. I’ve went back and watched a lot of YouTube videos, a lot of IMSA races, stuff like that, just trying to look at, basically, the race track and how it’s laid out and just try to figure out how I want to enter each corner. I really looked at the map a lot. I’ve done some stuff on iRacing and some Toyota sim stuff. I’m doing basically all I can do without us having practice, just really trying to focus on the map and just trying to put in my mind how each turn is so I know exactly how to approach each turn.”

It looks like there is seven-to-eight guys who have never driven a road course in anything. What do you think that’s going to do to the dynamic?

“It’s going to be wild. I think in the Truck race, hopefully, the first lap or two, everyone takes it easy. If you look at year’s past at just road course races in general, a lot of people are really aggressive, just trying to get to a good spot. I wouldn’t be so sure that we won’t have a caution on the first lap. It’s going to be a big unknown. It’s nice that I’ve ran some road course races. I ran Canada last year and the year before that, so I do have some road course experience, and have ran fairly decent, so I think that’s going to play a little bit of advantage just because I’ve been around road courses and the downshifting and how to approach corner with your braking and everything else. The guys that have never done it, I definitely feel for them, especially without practice or anything to go off of. That’s definitely going to be a tall order and a task for them.”

Have you had time to assess where you are at heading into the postseason?

“I think we are in a really good spot. We’ve shown speed each and every week. Our goal was to be able to compete and to be a top-five truck each and every week, and I feel like everybody at HRE (Hattori Racing Enterprises), Scott (Zipadelli, crew chief) and all of the guys, have done that basically every weekend. We might start out and be in the back half of the top-10, but me and Scott, we’ve been really good working together, making the right calls and adjustments, that way at least by the end of the race, we are fighting for a top-five, and fighting for the win. I really feel like we are in a good spot. If you take away where we finished last weekend, and if you take away the Texas deal, where we had the engine issue, we’ve been competitive, we’ve been a top-five truck basically every week. We’re just showing the consistency that we have. I think that we are actually in a really good spot. We have a really good chance at these Playoffs. It’s going to be all about staying consistent. If you can win a race, that’s great, but the biggest thing is just staying consistent, get stage points. That’s really the only thing that we haven’t done this year is getting stage wins that we would like. I think we only have like one stage win this season. That’s really the only thing that we’ve been talking about, and trying to check off that box a little bit better is trying to be a little bit better earlier in the race, so we can at least get one or two stage wins throughout a race to help us when the Playoffs start.

Where would you stack up the Daytona Road Course on the most challenging things you have done in your career?

“It’s got to be right up there at the top. It’s going to probably be the most challenging thing I’ve ever done just because we’re not going to have any practice. If you would have told me that we would have had five laps of practice, then I would have said it wouldn’t have been that bad just because you can at least see the race track, shake your truck down a little bit for five laps and be okay. But the fact that we are not going to have any practice, and just line them up, and take one or two pace laps around the truck to kind of get familiarized with it, and then drop the green flag off into turn one, not knowing what is to be expected, that’s a really tall order. We feel like the things and the preparations that I’ve done in the sim and everything else with Toyota that I kind of know where my shift points are going to be and what gear I’m going to be in in certain corners, but you don’t know until you get to the race track for certain. A lot of big unknowns. It’s going to be exciting, but it’s definitely going to be challenging. It’s nice that we are starting up front. Hopefully, we can just stay up there. The biggest thing is just getting single-filed out and just trying to stay in that top-five and feel your truck out the first five or so laps and see where you are at with things and start making a plan with your crew chief on what adjustments you need to make or if the splitter is too high or too low, things like that. A lot of big unknowns and the biggest thing is going to be you and the crew chief being able to diagnose what the truck is doing to make it that much better throughout the race. If you can do that better than everybody else and just stay on track, you are going to have a good day.”

Could you provide us an update on what you are working towards for next year?

“As of right now, we don’t have anything in the works. We’ve been talking with a lot of our partners and sponsors, United Rentals, is a big sponsor for us, and one of the biggest sponsors I’ve ever had, so we’ve been talking with those guys and trying to figure out what the plan looks like for next year. We are still working at it. We’re at a point in the season where we are trying to slowly just figure it out. I’m just happy to be in the position I’m at. We will see what next year looks like. I don’t know what the future holds as far as Truck racing, Xfinity racing or anything like that, I’m not real sure there. It’s still kind of a big unknown, but everything is looking okay. I think next year’s going to be a good year. We just have to figure out what we are doing.”

  • Codie Rohrbaugh, CR7 Motorsports embrace Daytona Road Course challenge

Codie Rohrbaugh, CR7 Motorsports embrace Daytona Road Course challenge

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.: Returning to Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway this weekend is certainly going to bring back flashbacks of Codie Rohrbaugh and his CR7 Motorsports team performance in the season-opening race at the “World Center of Racing.”

But this weekend, the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series won’t be putting on a hold your breath type superspeedway spectacle. Instead, Rohrbaugh and his Doug George-led team will make left and right turns and join the series’ in the inaugural running of the Sunoco 159 on the Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway Road Course.

The 14-turn, 3.56-mile course is certainly bringing a lot of unknowns for the teams and drivers but Rohrbaugh and his Statesville, N.C.-based team are approaching the race much like they do with a superspeedway race – with an open mind and a positive attitude.

“I’ve never been on a road course, so I have no idea what to expect,” offered Rohrbaugh. “I mean this is going to be first laps of doing any type of road course racing or turning left and right. I’m not sure what to expect other than to expect the unexpected and try to have a positive attitude and approach.”

Thankfully for Rohrbaugh and his family-owned team, they’ll be in the same boat as almost all of their competitors who approach the Daytona International Speedway Road Course with a blank sheet of paper.

No practice or qualifying will send the drivers right into battle with 44 laps to master the course and step into the spotlight with the opportunity to steal one of the coveted Playoff positions as the end of the regular season nears.

“While I have zero laps on any type of road course, much of the drivers in the field won’t have any laps on the Daytona Road Course, so that puts us all on a relatively level playing field,” added Rohrbaugh.

“For me, the goal is to stay on the track during the first stage and then make gains during the second stage that puts us in a position for the third and final stage. You can bet on some action, some tempers and probably a late race caution or two.

“Who knows what is going to happen honestly. Maybe it will be the exact opposite and we’ll have a fuel-mileage type race. You just never know, and I think that’s part of the excitement going into the race this weekend is that no one knows what to expect.”

After a rough stretch of races which saw Rohrbaugh dip outside the top-20 for seven consecutive races, Rohrbaugh and his CR7 team rebounded in Michigan last weekend and left the Motor City with a solid top-20 finish and a much-needed boost heading into Daytona.

“We came out of Michigan with some much welcome positive energy,” added Rohrbaugh. “I felt real good about our performance and hopefully even though the racing is different this weekend, we need another good run to try and make this second half better than much of the first half.”

For the seventh consecutive race, CR7 Motorsports and their partner Grant County Mulch has again given up their space this weekend race for Joshua Shirk.

The No. 9 Chevrolet Silverado has been designed with a western-theme scheme, personally selected by Shirk.

The hood carries a special touch with Shirk displaying a message of his own that he wrote before the accident, “I am a child of God. He saves me. I talk to he.”

On May 17, 2020, eight-year-old Joshua Shirk was kayaking with family in rural West Virginia.

While on the water, the kayak capsized and Shirk became trapped under the water in debris.

When family was finally able to pull him to safety, the young boy had no pulse. Quick work by medical workers at a local hospital were able to revive him but he remained in critical condition.

Shirk was later transported to WVU hospital in Morganton, West Virginia where he has made vast improvements but still needs the love, prayer and support of many.

Over the last six weeks, Shirk has been able to come off a breathing machine and has started intense physical rehabilitations with a focus on working his muscles and standing up with assistance. His progress lately has been exceptional, as his muscles continue to strengthen.

With prayer, love and support working, Rohrbaugh hopes others will now pledge their support alongside his CR7 Motorsports team uniting strength in numbers and the power of prayer.

“Our mission continues to be really important to me,” said Rohrbaugh. “The prayers from everyone are working and I’m so happy that Joshua is making huge strides towards his recovery. I continue to plead when asking the NASCAR community to please support him by offering their thoughts and prayers to Josh and his family. It really means a lot to me.”
After 11 races, Rohrbaugh is 19th in the championship standings.

CR7 Motorsports has 22 NGOTS starts to their credit with a career-best finish of third at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway (February 2020). Additionally, the team owns another top-10 finish at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway in October 2019. An 11th place qualifying effort at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway (Oct. 2019) is the team’s best time trials effort to date.

In 20 career ARCA starts, Rohrbaugh has a best finish of seventh twice at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway (July 2018 and Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway (February 2019). He has qualified a career-best fourth on four different occasions most recently at Kansas Speedway (Oct. 2018).

Marketing partnership(s) opportunities are available for the No. 97 Grant County Mulch Chevrolet and No. 9 Grant County Mulch Chevrolet for the 2020 ARCA Menards Series and NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series seasons and beyond. Interested inquiries are encouraged to contact at tonya@gcmulch.com or 304.257.8783.

The Sunoco 159 (44 laps| 158.85 miles) is the 12th of 23 NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series races on the 2020 schedule. The 39-truck field will take the green flag on Sun. Aug. 16, 2020 shortly after 12:00 p.m. with live coverage on FOX Sports 1 (FS1), the Motor Racing Network (Radio) and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Satellite Radio, Channel 90). All times are local (Eastern).

    12:00 p.m…………..Race (FS1)
    (all times ET)

Tanner Gray, No. 15 Place of Hope Ford F-150

Tanner Gray will be making his second road course start Sunday, but his first at the 3.61-mile track of Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway and his first in the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series (NGROTS). His previous road racing experience came at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International last year in the K&N East Series when he started second, but finished 11th after a mechanical issue.

Gray is coming off his best-career NGROTS finish last week at Michigan International Speedway. He finished third for his second consecutive top-five finish. In 11 Truck Series races this season, Gray has two top-five, four top-10 finishes and has led three laps.

Gray will race a special paint scheme at Daytona showcasing Place of Hope. Place of Hope is a faith-based, state licensed organization focused on providing programs and services to end the cycles of abuse, neglect, homelessness and human trafficking. They offer support to children, youth and families in need. They are the largest, most diverse, residential children and families organization in Palm Beach County (Fla.) and the Treasure Coast. Gray on Daytona: “I have limited road racing experience, but I really had fun doing it last year at Watkins Glen. We were fast until we broke, so I’m hoping we can have a good run this weekend. It will be challenging for sure without any practice. Being on a new track for me and having never raced a truck on a road course, the early laps will be a big learning curve. I’ll be in good company though, since not many, if any Truck Series drivers have run this course.

“It’s also great to have Place of Hope on my Ford F-150 for this race. They are an outstanding organization in Florida which my family has helped support since 2014.”

Dan-O’s Seasoning Expands Sponsorship of Spencer Boyd with Daytona Primary

Concord, NC (August 11, 2020) – Spencer Boyd, driver of the No. 20 Young’s Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado in the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Series, is proud to announce Dan-O’s Seasoning has signed on to be the primary sponsor at the series’ first-ever running of Daytona International Speedway’s Road Course.

Boyd and Dan Oliver first came together when Dan-O, the seasoning’s inventor, was an associate sponsor at the Kansas and Michigan races. But Dan-O wanted to go bigger. “When the Daytona Road Course opportunity came up, they jumped on the chance to get a green truck out there,” Boyd said.

“They have an amazing product and Dan-O is super entertaining to watch on TikTok so it’s an all-around ‘Dan-Good’ partnership,” Boyd said.

Dan-O, who always had a passion for cooking, discovered his master blend of herbs and spices experimenting with a roasted chicken recipe. He started sharing his seasoning blend with people, who all said he should share the blend with the world, and Dan-O’s Seasoning was born. Since its creation, Dan-O’s has built a reputation as one of the best-tasting seasonings in the world.

“Spencer [Boyd] is a grilling machine,” Dan-O said. “Florida is a great place to get fresh fish, and what’s better than grilled fish seasoned with Dan-O’s on race day? Sounds like the perfect combination to me.”

Boyd is no stranger to road course racing. His experience in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, coupled with his roots in karting, makes Boyd a contender in the upcoming race. “There are a lot of firsts this year in NASCAR,” Boyd said. “Running the RC at Daytona is one of the better ‘firsts’ and I’m proud to bring another new sponsor into the sport for their first primary race.”

The all-green Dan-O’s No. 20 Chevrolet Silverado will head south to Daytona International Speedway for a double-header with the NASCAR Cup Series on Sunday, August 16. Tune in to FS1 at 12:00pm ET for the Sunoco 159 or listen to the Motor Racing Network or Sirius XM Radio Channel 90.

Jennifer Jo Cobb Set for 200th NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series Start

CHARLOTTE, NC (August 11, 2020) – On Sunday, August 16, the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Series will make its debut on the historic Daytona International Speedway Road Course. The day carries even more significance for Jennifer Jo Cobb, driver of the No. 10 Fastener Supply Company Chevrolet Silverado, as she makes her 200th series start.

Cobb made her series debut in 2008 at her home track of Kansas Speedway before forming her own team in 2010. She has entered every race since 2010 as a team owner, also fielding trucks for other drivers as a teammate. Cobb has also made 31 NASCAR XFINITY Series starts.

Fastener Supply Company will also launch a rebranded logo, after more than 60 years, placing it on the prestigious hood location of the No. 10 Truck as part of this special event. The new logo design is by Paradigm Multimedia Marketing, the parent company of Paradigm Racing, also a partner with JJCR.

“We are very excited to be aligning with Jennifer Jo Cobb Racing for the rest of this year, and hopefully to continue doing so in the future,” said Donnie Shrum, President of Fastener Supply Company. “This partnership adds value to both of our organizations, and we have the ultimate respect for Jen and her team. Her accomplishments in the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Series would be impressive for any driver, but especially so for a woman who helped set the stage for other females to enter the profession. We are so proud to have her represent our company.” Stacy Mears, Director of Marketing, added “We are also very thankful to Aaron Farrier and Paradigm Multimedia Marketing for the work that he has done on our rebranding project. We think that our new logo helps us better define our brand, which is to provide innovative fastener solutions to our customers. We adapt and change with the times in order to best support their requirements.”

“To have our partners working together and pledging more support to JJCR during this very special year is amazing,” Cobb said. “This year we have this great new sponsor in Fastener Supply Company, a new Crew Chief (Brian Keselowski) and spotter (Clayton Hughes) and it just seems like there is a renewed effort and positive momentum taking place for our team.”

What does making 200 starts mean to you?

“I feel gratitude. Through the past 10 years, we have outlasted many teams, big and small. I’ve learned so much from both a driver and a business standpoint and I am constantly looking for ways to improve. Before I moved up to the big leagues in NASCAR, I won races. Now the teams with the budget and capabilities of winning at this level make up less than 20 percent of the entire field. When I look at the past 10 years, I feel like we have paid our dues. Looking forward, it’s time to dig deeper and have the sponsors and performance that I know we are capable of at JJCR.”

“For a woman without money or a huge sponsor backing to have survived this long as a driver and a team owner, is just unheard of today. We have defied so many odds and it has been all because of the great people who support me. I could not do this — from a financial perspective but also a mental perspective — if it weren’t for the team, my family and friends, the fans and of course the sponsors.”

“I love the line from the old Smokey and the Bandit song that says ‘We gonna do what they say can’t be done’ I think that kind of sums up the attitude of this team no matter who has worked on it.”

What are some of your favorite memories as you think about all the races you have run?

“Forming Driven2Honor is one of the best things I’ve done. Earning the respect of my competitors has been pretty important to me and I think we have the respect of those that I care about. The legends and long-standing drivers, owners and teams really look out for us. Giving so many crew members their first opportunity in racing has been an important purpose for JJCR. Sometimes they just need a start – a chance – and then they propel forward and we kick them out of our nest so they can thrive.”

“But losing my mom in 2018 was a really dark time. She gave up so much for racing over my dad’s local career and mine. I am just so happy with the memories we were able to make with her and the way my racing friends all over the country have embraced my parents.”

How much longer do you plan on racing in NASCAR?

“As I get older, people ask this all the time. Morgan Shepherd is my inspiration as he is 78-years old and still fully capable of wheeling that thing. I don’t put arbitrary numbers on my life so I’ll race as long as I am physically capable, having fun and as long as God provides the financial means through the great partners he sends me.”
