    Race: 12 of 23
    Event: Sunoco 159 (158.85 miles, 44 laps)

Todd Gilliland, No. 38 Frontline Enterprises Ford F-150

Todd Gilliland has had this Sunday’s race at the Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway road course marked on his calendar since NASCAR announced it. Although the 20-year-old has not won on a road course yet, he has come close several times and feels this weekend is another shot at Victory Lane in the No. 38 Frontline Enterprises Ford F-150.

Gilliland has made nine road course starts in various series resulting in four second-place finishes. He finished second in both doubleheader races at Utah Motorsports Campus in the K&N West Series and led 21 laps in 2106. He also scored second twice in 2017 in the K&N East Series at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International and New Jersey Motorsports Park.

His most heartbreaking road race came in the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series in Canada in 2018. He led the final 11 laps of the race and thought he had his first Truck Series win in sight, until the final corner when then teammate, Noah Gragson, tried to make a pass resulting in both trucks spinning off course. Gilliland finished 11th.

The Sunoco 159 from Daytona International Speedway will be run on Sunday, Aug. 16 at 12 p.m. ET. The race will be broadcast live on FS1. The 44-lap race will be broken into three segments with stage-ending cautions on laps 12 and 25.

    Quick Facts:
Number of Truck Series Road Course Starts: 3 (Bowmanville, Ontario)
    Best Start: 2nd (2019)
    Best Finish: 11th (2017 & 2018)
2020 Driver Point Standings: 10th (+29 above playoff cut line)

Gilliland on Daytona: “I feel like we’ve always run well at road courses, so I’m super excited. I’ve come so close to winning on road courses before, and this would be the perfect time for that to happen and lock us into the playoffs. All of these races coming up are very important so we need to run well. We’re only 29 points above the cut line for the playoffs, so we don’t have room for any bad races. Frontline Enterprises has been a big supporter of mine for several years and we got them to Victory Lane at Talladega in the ARCA race last year, so hopefully we can do it again Sunday.”

    Toyota Racing – Christian Eckes
NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series Quotes

BROOKLYN, Michigan (August 6, 2020) – Kyle Busch Motorsports driver Christian Eckes was made available to media via videoconference in advance of the race at Michigan International Speedway:

CHRISTIAN ECKES, No. 18 Safelite Auto Glass Toyota Tundra, Kyle Busch Motorsports

Your fellow Truck Series driver Spencer Davis tested positive for COVID. How does that make you feel?

“COVID is a scary thing. I think this proves that anyone can get it, with Jimmie (Johnson) getting it about a month ago. It’s a serious thing. I feel like we are taking all the necessary precautions to kind of contain it, but obviously, it’s a scary thing that is bound to happen. I didn’t know about that till now, so hopefully he does better and gets better, and hopefully we can get him back soon.”

The 2020 schedule has been finalized for the Truck Series. Have you seen the schedule?

“Yeah, I saw the schedule this morning when it was announced. There’s a lot of race tracks on there that I like a lot and a lot of race tracks we just went to, so it will be really good as far as being a rookie and going back to a race track we just raced at and having the setup from this year and everything in that aspect. I’m looking forward to a lot of those race tracks.”

Are you looking forward to Michigan?

“I feel like I need one spot. That’s kind of the thing I’ve needed for the last two weeks. I raced there last year in both the Trucks and ARCA, so it’s probably one of my most experienced tracks as far as the bigger race tracks. I feel pretty comfortable going in there. I liked it a lot last year, but we had a lot of struggles. I think I blew probably 15 right rear tires throughout the race. Overall, I feel pretty comfortable and confident going into this one.”

What extra precautions are you taking with the Pandemic?

“I’m taking all the necessary precautions. I haven’t eaten out in who knows when. It’s been nice because I’ve been healthy, but at the same aspect, I would like to eat out a little bit here and there. As much as I can. It’s hard every once in a while, but at the same aspect, I feel like I’ve taken the necessary precautions, not only me, but everybody at KBM (Kyle Busch Motorsports) to do a good job with that. I feel pretty comfortable with that.”

What do you like about Michigan?

“It’s an interesting track for sure. It kind of races different than anything. It still has that mile-and-a-half characteristic to the Truck Series, where you have to draft and you have to utilize that draft, but in the same aspect, it’s different because it’s almost like a superspeedway, in that aspect. It’s just more advanced. It’s a fun race track for sure, and I feel like it’s a fun race. I feel like you can take chances, and still have plenty of time to get back through the field if you mess up or make a bad move and fall out of the draft, it’s kind of like Daytona or Talladega, where if you just stay patient, and get through the field, you will have a shot at it. It’s a fun race, and I always like going to Michigan.”

Darlington has been added to the Truck Series schedule.

“Yeah, I’m looking forward to it. Darlington is always a place I watched growing up. I have always loved watching the Southern 500, and all the Xfinity races and everything that has happened there. It’s a track with a lot of history, and one that I haven’t been to before or even seen in person, but in the same aspect, I feel like our Safelite Toyota team will be really strong there as well.”

What are you doing to get ready for the Daytona Road Course?

“I don’t know yet, man. I’ve never road raced before in my life. A lot of simulator time and hopes and prayers, I guess. It’s going to be a rough one, but it’s going to be a long race of learning, and hopefully by the end we will be in contention. But yeah, I’ve never road raced in my entire life, and it’s probably going to be interesting.”

What are you early impressions of the Daytona Road Course from your time in the simulator?

“It’s fun for sure. It’s really fun. There’s a lot of aspects to it – I guess it’s all four corners, so I will be really good at those four corners, but the other, I don’t know how many, it will a little rough probably. It’s a fun road course. I’ve been on some others on the sim, and I feel like, honestly, it’s the most fun one I’ve had so far. I’m definitely looking forward to running laps. How good I’m going to do? I haven’t really determined yet, but we are going to try our best and see what happens.”

There has been a lot of races this year with no practice or qualifying. How much have you leaned on Kyle (Busch)?

“A lot. Thankfully, there has been a few Cup races that have been before the Truck race. I think the Xfinity race at Texas, I talked to him before – he talked to me and Raphael (Lessard) right after the Xfinity race to help us out with that. He called us after Pocono. He called us before Kansas. He’s just been really hands on this year and really done a good job of trying to get us up to speed and trying to get us better. I’ve really relied on him more than ever because it’s needed. Not going to these places, not having any practice. You need to be 100% off the trailer. I’ve got a decent amount of truck starts, but still, I definitely don’t feel as comfortable as I’d like without practice. Leaning on him has been a huge help, and something that I definitely appreciate.”

    Todd Gilliland, No. 38 Speedco/Love’s Ford F-150

Todd Gilliland is hoping to turn his NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series (NGROTS) season around this weekend at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn. Coming off 10th and 20th-place finishes in the doubleheader at Kansas Speedway two weeks ago, Gilliland is looking for a strong run to keep him safely above the cut line for the Truck Series playoffs.

Gilliland has two prior NGROTS starts at the fast two-mile track. He had his best run in 2018 when he started second and finished fifth. Last year he was running around the top five when he was ironically caught up in an accident with the three DGR-Crosley trucks and finished 24th.

The Front Row Motorsports team will be taking the same Speedco Ford F-150 it raced at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May where Gilliland finished 37th after being involved in an accident.

Speedco, part of the Love’s family of companies, will be back on Gilliland’s No. 38 Ford F-150 at Michigan. Love’s provides professional truck drivers and motorists with 24-hour access to clean and safe places to purchase gasoline, diesel fuel, fresh coffee, restaurant offerings and more. Love’s has more than 380 truck service centers, which include on-site and stand-alone Speedco and Love’s Truck Care locations. Love’s and Speedco combined is the largest oil change, preventive maintenance and total truck care nationwide network. Love’s is committed to providing customers with “Clean Places, Friendly Faces” at every stop. To learn more, visit loves.com.

The NGROTS 200 from Michigan International Speedway will be run on Friday, Aug. 7 at 6 p.m. ET. The race will be broadcast live on FS1. The 100-lap race will be broken into three segments with stage-ending cautions on laps 20 and 40.

    Quick Facts:
Number of Starts at Michigan: 2
    Best Start: 2nd (2018)
    Best Finish: 5th (2018)
2020 Driver Point Standings: 10th (+22 above playoff cut line)

Gilliland on Michigan: “I’m really looking forward to going back to Michigan. It’s a fun track because it’s very fast and there are several lines you can run since it’s so wide. I had a great run there in 2018 and had a good run going last year until I got caught up in a wreck in the last few laps. We’re 10th in the points right now, so hopefully all of our bad luck is behind us. We need some good runs to stay above the cut line for the playoffs. A win this Friday would be a good way to do that and lock ourselves into the playoffs.”

    Race: 11 of 23
    Event: NGROTS 200 (200 miles, 100 laps)

    Schedule:
    Friday, August 7
    6:00 p.m…………..Race (FS1)
    (all times ET)

Tanner Gray, No. 15 Ford Performance F-150

Tanner Gray will be making his first NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series (NGROTS) start at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn on Friday, but he does have one previous start in the Irish Hills in the ARCA Menards Series last year for DGR-Crosley. He started third and finished fifth in his debut there.

Gray is coming off his best-career NGROTS finish two weeks ago at Kansas Speedway. In the second race of the doubleheader weekend, he led three laps (his first laps led) and brought his No. 15 Ford Performance F-150 home in fourth place. He is definitely hoping to continue that momentum this weekend at Michigan. In 10 Truck Series races this season, Gray has one top-five and three top-10 finishes.

The DGR-Crosley team is taking the same No. 15 Ford Performance F-150 to Michigan which Gray raced at Kentucky last month and finished ninth.

The NGROTS 200 from Michigan International Speedway will be run on Friday, Aug. 7 at 6 p.m. ET. The race will be broadcast live on FS1. The 100-lap race will be broken into three segments with stage-ending cautions on laps 20 and 40.

Gray on Michigan: “I’m looking forward to going back to Michigan this weekend. I had a lot of fun racing the ARCA car there last year. It’s a fast track. I know you could hold the ARCA car wide open until you got in traffic, so it will be interesting to see how the trucks race there. The race is only 100 laps, so your setup needs to be pretty close right off the hauler since we don’t have practice, or qualifying. The first stage break is only 20 laps into the race, so you need to have a good idea of what your truck needs right off the bat.”

  • Plan B Sales and Brett Moffitt to Run Tribute Paint Scheme at Phoenix Raceway

Plan B Sales and Brett Moffitt to Run Tribute Paint Scheme at Phoenix Raceway

Statesville, N.C. (Aug. 3, 2020) – Plan B Sales and GMS Racing are excited to announce the design of the No. 23 Chevy Silverado Brett Moffitt will pilot for Championship Weekend at Phoenix Raceway in November. The paint scheme will be a tribute to retiring seven-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion, Jimmie Johnson, and a throwback to the infamous No. 48 Chevrolet he piloted in 2007, for his second Cup title.

Plan B Sales felt the most fitting way to show their appreciation for Johnson’s contributions to the sport would be racing this throwback scheme as Moffitt pursues his second NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series title this season.

“Brett has been a part of the Plan B family and a great ambassador for our company over the years,” said Brent Powell, owner of Plan B Sales. “Last year we partnered with Brett and GMS for the Phoenix race, but this year is different with it being the season finale and Jimmie’s final weekend. It truly is an honor for us to showcase this throwback for Jimmie and hopefully see Brett clinch his second championship in our truck.”

Moffitt, who has raced as part of the Championship Four the past two seasons, has been anxiously awaiting this announcement as well. “In my mind, Jimmie is the G.O.A.T.” said Moffitt.

“I have looked up to him, leaned on him and had the utmost respect for everything he has done for our sport,” Moffitt continued. “This is the coolest paint scheme I’ve had in my career because of how much respect and admiration I have for Jimmie. I’m rooting for him to go out on top, and maybe we’ll both get the chance to celebrate a championship in Phoenix later this year.”

Additional details and promotions for this truck design will be announced over the coming weeks. The preorders for the 1:24’s and 1:64’s diecasts are now live and only available at PlanBSales.com.

When COVID hit and changed up the schedule resulting in Eldora being cancelled, they didn’t skip a beat and came on board for Michigan. Their flexibility shows what amazing leadership they have running their company.”

Founded in 1964, M&D Blacktop’s #1 goal has always been complete customer satisfaction. Over the years they have grown to become a full service asphalt maintenance company. With a fleet of custom made equipment and highly trained work crews, M&D Blacktop does asphalt paving, repairs, seal coating, line striping, and sport courts. Commercial businesses should visit www.mdblacktop.com to check out their award-winning work.

“It’s a natural relationship for an asphalt company to be involved with NASCAR,” said M&D Sales Manager Mark Nance Jr. “Between that and Spencer’s hardworking values, we are proud to be in a position to help get him to the track. We were going to talk to Tony Stewart about paving Eldora but I guess we’ll have to wait until next year to do that.”

Returning to the track after a historic double header in Kansas, the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Series heads north to the Irish Hills for Michigan International Speedway’s 2 mile D-shaped Speedway. Boyd made his NASCAR Cup Series debut at this track in 2019 making MIS the only NASCAR race track at which he has raced all three series. “Michigan is fast,” commented Boyd. “We’ve got the draft there and you’re in the gas a lot. I’ve got some asphalt experts in my corner so we’re gunning for a great finish.”

The Young’s Motorsports No. 20 Chevrolet Silverado will adorn asphalt on the sides of the truck as their 25 year old driver straps in for the 11th race of the season. Tune in to FS1 on Friday, August 7 at 6:00pm ET for the 200 mile truck race or listen to the Motor Racing Network or Sirius XM Radio Channel 90.

    TOYOTA QUOTES

CHRISTIAN ECKES, No. 18 Safelite Auto Glass Toyota Tundra, Kyle Busch Motorsports

    Finishing Position: 2nd

What all were you trying on Matt Crafton in the closing laps to go for the win?

“I tried moving around and we sucked yesterday. We were so damn bad, but Rudy (Fugle, crew chief) and the guys, I can’t say enough about them. They made some really good adjustments today and we got it way better last night. P2 is still good, but of course we wish we still won. In the same aspect, from where we even started today, finishing second is still pretty close. Just have to go back and figure out what we can do better. Overall, proud of my Safelite Tundra guys.”

What was the battle like with Matt Crafton in the closing laps?

“I thought I got a little tight, but I got a hole in the nose and just got tight behind him (Matt Crafton). Overall, just what a comeback for our Safelite Tundra team. We sucked yesterday. I can’t sugar coat it, we were terrible. Rudy (Fugle, crew chief) and the guys worked really, really hard last night and this morning to get it better. We still started the race a little bit off, but the truck came to us and was perfect at the end. I just got a little tight behind him. I was good in one corner and not the other. Just need to get back to the lab and get a little better I guess.”

Rudy said he wants you angry when you finish second, is that anger there today?

“Yeah, it’s not as much anger as last week. At the same time, it’s definitely a little disappointing. It’s hard to be disappointed after how we ran yesterday. Just ready for Michigan.”

How redeeming is it to have a performance like this after yesterday?

“I won’t sugar coat it, we were absolutely terrible yesterday. 13th is not representative of how good this team is or how good I am. We talked a lot about it last night. Rudy (Fugle, crew chief) made some really good changes. We started okay today. We weren’t perfect yet and that last run, actually after that pit stop, we got pretty good. I just got a little bit tight, which was the opposite of what we were fighting all day. Definitely feels good. Obviously, I wish we could have won there and I have a little bit of work to do to get through traffic. Struggled with the same thing last week. Have a little work to do, but at the same time, really proud of my team to rebound the way we did.”

Is there anything you learned or would do differently after chasing Matt Crafton in the closing laps?

“Just trying to find air. We had a hole in the nose and that didn’t really help the aero situation, but at the same time, just have to figure out how to get around him. When they go to aero-block me and take away my lane, I just have to rip top or do something different. Got close a few times and even had a shot there coming to the checkers, but just needed a couple more feet.”

Do you feel your team is improving at the right time to get ready for the Playoffs?

“Yeah, absolutely. The first three races back were circumstantial. Charlotte we were just bad, we were about as bad as last night. The first two races we ran good, but we wrecked. I feel like we’ve had the speed, we’ve had the promise to show results, we just haven’t been following through. The last seven races, we’ve been able to minimize mistakes and have done a good job to get in good position and get points.”

How much improvement did you see from the truck today compared to yesterday?

“You can’t put it into words. We were just absolutely terrible yesterday and we talked about it a lot, me and Rudy (Fugle, crew chief) after the race and kind of came up with a game plan and changed just about everything on the truck. We got it significantly better and it had a lot more grip today. I feel a lot more confident coming back here later in the year. In the same aspect, wish we could have won, but second is still okay for what we fought this weekend and honestly, fought at the beginning of the race still.”

What do you like about racing at Michigan?

“I ran Michigan twice last year, once in the ARCA race and once in the truck race. The truck race, I felt like we had a really good Tundra. In the same aspect, I think we blew like five or six right-rears. Just have to minimize mistakes there as well and hopefully get a win there.”

    Does this off-weekend help you?

“The off-weekend should kind of help. I kind of wish I had an off-weekend last week to study more of what to do behind Kyle (Busch) there at the end. I’m going to use this time to do that.”

How has your relationship with Rudy Fugle evolved through some of this adversity?

“Me and Rudy (Fugle, crew chief) deal with adversity pretty well. We’re getting stronger, we’re building chemistry and we’re building better trucks. We’re doing everything right, we just need to get one spot better.”

AUSTIN HILL, No. 16 United Rentals Toyota Tundra, Hattori Racing Enterprises

    Finishing Position: 6th

Another solid finish today, how was today’s race compared to last night?

“Yesterday went really well for us with us getting the win. That was awesome to get that checked off and be able to get locked in. Today, was a dogfight for us, to say the least. We started off way, way too loose. I could not attack my entry and center off. I was so loose; I could not touch the throttle. Scott (Zipadelli, crew chief) and the guys, they worked so hard. Every caution we threw everything we can at it to tighten this truck up. We got it better throughout each run. We just kept slowly working at it, and we made some big enough adjustments that on the short run we could really fire off good, get some track position. All-in-all in the long run, we were just missing something today. I don’t know what it was compared to yesterday. I don’t know if it was the heat or just how the track was or what. We definitely missed it today on just having the long-run speed compared to yesterday. All-in-all, our United Rentals Toyota Tundra was good. Comparing yesterday to today, it was crazy that the track changed that much and that our Tundra changed that much. We did make some changes going into today, but all of the changes that we made going into today should have tightened us up, and for whatever reason, we were just way too loose. I know that a lot of other guys fought the same thing. We just get in, we would lose the rear, lose the front, almost have a four wheel slide and like I said, it was a battle all day, but days like today – if we end up sixth with a truck that we didn’t feel like was good at all, we will go on with that. We had a decent points day, and we will get out of here with a sixth and go on to the next one. It was just crazy to me that it changed that much, but we will go back and look at the notes and talk it over and see what we could do differently, if we come back here.”

DEREK KRAUS, No. 19 ENEOS Toyota Tundra, McAnally-Hilgemann Racing

    Finishing Position: 7th

How was your race today and how do you feel after the doubleheader?

“It’s a really good weekend – having a doubleheader. We had a really good first race with our ENEOS Toyota Tundra and we were able to adjust a little bit. Today, we were a little bit too free. But overall, it was a really great weekend. We moved into the top-10 of the point, so that’s really good for our MHR (McAnally-Hilgemann Racing) team. We are really looking forward to Michigan here in a couple weeks.”
