Tohatsu to Help Spencer Boyd Feel the Wind with Sponsorship at Texas

Mooresville, NC (April 9, 2023) – Spencer Boyd and Freedom Racing Enterprises announced today that Tohatsu Corporation will be the primary sponsor for the team’s No. 76 Chevrolet Silverado when the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races at Texas Motor Speedway on April 12, 2024. This will be Tohatsu Corporation’s first time on the hood of a NASCAR vehicle promoting their award-winning outboard motors.

Spencer Boyd, co-owner of Freedom Racing Enterprises expounded on the partnership, “We have some very exciting things planned with Tohatsu, but I can’t reveal them all just yet. What I can say is that my BFT200D sure does purr like a kitten when gliding across Lake Norman and allows me to get to my favorite fishing holes quickly. It’s a pleasure to work with such professionals and can’t wait to race in their backyard this week.”

Tohatsu America Corporation is headquartered in Coppell, Texas.

“We’ve had a great kickoff to our partnership already this year,” noted Vice President Kuniharu Maki. “After the partnership launch at COTA and now with our very own paint scheme at Texas Motor Speedway, we are excited to incorporate our brand with one of the most enthusiastic fan bases. We strive to produce the best outboard motors, and it’s all thanks to our dedicated employees and our 100+ years of history.”

Tohatsu recently announced a partnership with Ilmor, the supplier of the NT1 engine for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. This strategic collaboration marks a historic partnership between two industry leaders, combining the rich heritage of Tohatsu’s expertise in marine outboard propulsion and Ilmor’s cutting-edge engineering prowess.

Boyd talked more about the connection, “I think it is so awesome that they (Ilmor and Tohatsu) have aligned. You’ve got two very trusted engine manufacturers collaborating to do transformative things together. That’s how great teams are made and that’s how great fishing happens. Let’s be honest though, my race truck engine would scare fish as well as most others on the lake so I’m glad they didn’t take my advice!”

The SpeedyCash.com 250 at Texas Motor Speedway marks NASCAR’s second trip to the Lone Star State in the past four weeks. You can catch all the action on FS1 Friday, April 12 at 8:30pm ET.

Kaden Honeycutt on Friday’s Race at Martinsville Speedway: “Ninth-place tonight in our No. 45 Chevy Accessories Silverado, in a wild, chaotic race. Our truck was great all night scoring stage points in both stages. Then, making our way through the field, I made a mistake on the 43 after I saw it and spun. Thank you, Niece Motorsports, for a fast truck.”

Race Recap: Kaden Honeycutt and the No. 45 team showed speed in Friday afternoon’s lone practice session, putting up the 10th quickest lap of the session. Bayley Currey on Friday’s Race at Martinsville Speedway: “The team at Niece brought me a solid truck,” said Currey. “It was hard to pass, but I do think we were a lot faster than other trucks; we just could not get by them. I felt like we made good strategy decisions and were running towards the top-10 there towards the end, and unfortunately got into a little bit of a scuffle on the backstretch and that set us back. I’m really thankful to have Sparco on board with us this week and am looking forward to Texas with the team.”

    2nd – Ty Majeski
    12th – Matt Crafton
    14th – Ben Rhodes
    15th – Layne Riggs
    21st – Jake Garcia
    28th – Stephen Mallozzi
    30th – Cam Waters
    31st – Lawless Alan

TY MAJESKI, No. 98 Soda Sense/Curb Records Ford F-150 (Finished 2nd)

THOSE LAST TWO RESTARTS SEEMED TO GET AWAY FROM YOU, WHAT HAPPENED? “Yeah, I think we had a good strategy. If it goes green one of those first two yellows we probably win the race. I am super proud of our Soda Sense team. I just couldn’t launch on restarts all night. We think we know what it was. We can fix it. I need to be better too at figuring out what to do differently there. I tried switching up gears and speeds and couldn’t get anything to work. Overall, I think the 19 was a little better than us and he had better tires at the end. If we could have kept the lead there I don’t know that he would have been able to get by us. I am obviously disappointed. I wanted that grandfather clock but all you can ask for is a shot at the end.”

CAM WATERS, No. 66 Tradie Ford F-150 (Retired due to accident on lap 176)

WHAT DO YOU TAKE AWAY FROM YOUR FIRST NASCAR EXPERIENCE? “I had so much fun tonight and all day today. It is totally different racing from what I usually do and I just wanted to learn. I learned so much. There at the end I just had nowhere to go and knocked the radiator out of it. It is a shame but I was having fun and learning and had some awesome battles too.”

WHAT DID YOU LEARN THE MOST? “Just the racing is so robust. Everyone is into each other. There is still a bit of respect there. It’s totally different from what we do in Australia. I love it. You can bump a little and give some back a little without putting someone in. That was probably the biggest thing.”

IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE GOING TO RUN AT KANSAS: “At the moment, it is only tonight. I have a pretty busy schedule with Supercars and I just wanted to get through tonight and see where we were at. We will look at a calendar and see what we can do from here.”

YOU ASKED ON THE RADIO IF THIS WAS WHEN EVERYONE WAS GOING TO START TO LOSE THEIR MINDS, IS THIS WHAT YOU WERE EXPECTING TONIGHT? “I didn’t really have any expectations. I have watched a lot of races and knew it was going to be pretty crazy. Shane and Marcos Ambrose told me it was going to be wild out there and even all the drivers when I got here said the same thing. It was definitely wild, but I loved it. It was a lot of fun. Everyone was kind of into each other a bit and the racing is pretty hard.”

YOU SAID YOU WANTED TO DO THIS FULL-TIME AND THAT THIS WAS A DREAM FOR YOU. DID THIS WEEKEND CONFIRM THAT DREAM FOR YOU? “Yeah, I love oval racing and do a lot of dirt stuff at home. I always watch NASCAR and this is my first proper taste of it to see if I like it or not, and honestly I love it. I still have unfinished business back in Australia and I have an amazing team there that I have been trying to win a championship with so I will go back home and win some races in Aussie and see if we can get back here again.”

HOW WAS YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH PIT STOPS? “The pit stops are cool. They are a lot different than Australia. The pit road speed was probably the biggest thing just trying to stay in the white and the guys coming over the wall was new to me as well, but it was good.”

DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOU WILL BE MORE AGGRESSIVE AT KANSAS? “Well, I don’t even know if I am doing Kansas. Literally, tonight is the first and only race that we have planned to be honest. I just wanted to get through tonight. I have stuff to focus on in Supercars. We will look at the schedule and see if there are any other things we can do but we will have to wait and see.”

    TOYOTA QUOTES

TAYLOR GRAY, No. 17 JBL Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, TRICON Garage

    Finishing Position: 6th

Fifth top-10 in a row for you. How was your race?

“Not exactly where we want to be with our JBL Tundra. We want to be contending for wins, but solid points day. I don’t think we got many stage points, but overall – good finish. From where we started practice, and where we qualified. I will take it. I will move on and hopefully have a solid finish tomorrow.”

DEAN THOMPSON, No. 5 Thompson Pipe Group Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, TRICON Garage

    Finishing Position: 33rd

    What happened?

“Someone packed the 9 (Grant Enfinger) into the fence and I just got stuck behind him. I got outside of him, and I think (Ben) Rhodes shoved him into me. Just hard racing.”

How has the racing been out there? It is typical Martinsville?

“Just typical Martinsville truck racing. Just aggressive. I’m just blessed that I’m safe. Good Lord kept me safe today. I’ve just got to thank Thompson Pipe Group, TRICON Garage, Toyota and Assured Partners.”

Last year, he debuted in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series at Martinsville Speedway in Virginia. But Blake’s passion for all things fast started at a much younger age. He first jumped behind the wheel of a go-kart at age five. By age 10, he was karting competitively at F1 Boston, racking up multiple championships. At 15, he was competing and winning against adults in high-performance go-karting at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

There, he ran away with a regional New Hampshire Championship. That caught the eye of NASCAR, and at 17, he was invited to compete in a national competition for a spot on the prestigious NASCAR Drive for Diversity Driver Development team.

After beating out hundreds of applicants, Lothian secured a spot on the team in 2019 and was the only driver to win a top-five Championship for the team in 2020 in Legends Racing at the Charlotte Summer Shootout at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

In 2021, at age 19, Blake stepped up to full-size stock car racing with Mike Darne Racing and, after only four stock car racing events, won a coveted victory at the famed Hickory Motor Speedway.

In 2022, Lothian made numerous podiums and scored top-five finishes in the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Series.

Today, he continues to race Late-Model Stock cars, competing in the highly competitive CARS TOUR Series. He also looks forward to more starts this season in the nationally televised NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series.

Mills on Last Race at Circuit of the Americas: “It was for sure a learning day,” said Mills. “We didn’t feel like we had the exact speed we needed, but each lap we were getting faster and that’s on me learning the track and picking up on some of the situational things you don’t see as you do at ovals. Overall, it was a good day. We got what we could, and we were competing for the top-15 there at the end.
