Spencer Boyd Returns To Young’s Motorsports

Mooresville, N.C. (January 31, 2020) Driver Spencer Boyd and Team Principal Tyler Young are proud to jointly announce the return of Boyd to the No. 20 Chevrolet Silverado. In their second season together, the team plans to build on the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series win at Talladega Superspeedway in 2019.

Spencer Boyd remarked on his return to Young’s Motorsports, “We have so much more to do together. It’s a family team that has done amazing things since coming into the sport in 2012; I’m honored to still be a part of this family. Last season marked a huge first for me as a driver and Young’s as an organization with our win at Talladega so we want to build on that. Tyler and I spent a lot of time in the offseason working on how we can get better as a team and now it’s time to put those ideas together on and off the track.”

This is Spencer Boyd’s fifth season in NASCAR competition amassing 68 national touring series starts with one win and two top ten finishes. In addition to his first win, Boyd made his NASCAR Cup Series debut in 2019.

“What can I say about Spencer Boyd?” asked Team Principal Tyler Young. “I’m reminded every day what he means to our team because I walk by that confetti covered truck and get motivated to further develop our program. We have much more to accomplish together.”

Young’s Motorsports has 231 races to their credit with 23 top ten finishes all in the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series.

“I’m motivated by the recent announcement of our playoffs expanding to ten drivers,” said Boyd. “We grew so much last year so there is a new set of goals this year. Plain and simple, I’m eager to get the season started and I’m not going to lie, I like that I won’t have those yellow stripes on the rear bumper for the first time in my career.”

The crew chief and partnership lineup for the No. 20 truck will be announced soon.

  • Carson Hocevar joins Niece Motorsports for partial schedule in 2020

Carson Hocevar joins Niece Motorsports for partial schedule in 2020

TATESVILLE, N.C. (Dec. 20, 2019) – Carson Hocevar will compete in nine races for Niece Motorsports in the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series (NGROTS) in 2020.

“I’m really looking forward to this opportunity,” said Hocevar. “Niece Motorsports has invested a lot in their program in the last few years, and the results are really showing. I’m excited to be able to work with and learn from drivers like Ty Majeski and Ross Chastain. I’m thrilled to get in race-winning equipment and hopefully learn a lot and compete at a high level.”

Hocevar ran two NGROTS races in 2019, at Eldora Speedway and ISM Raceway. He qualified inside the top-20 and finished in the top-25 in both events.

In addition to the pair of NGROTS starts in 2019, Hocevar competed in 12 ARCA Racing Series events, earning one pole – never starting lower than 12th – along with four top-five and 10 top-10 finishes.

In 2018, Hocevar made three ARCA Racing Series starts, earning one pole and two top-five finishes.

“Carson has proven to be a very talented young racer, and we are looking forward to him continuing that with our team,” said team owner Al Niece. “We are excited to prove that last season wasn’t a fluke and are looking to run strong again in 2020.”

Niece Motorsports is coming off a strong junior season in 2019. Together Ross Chastain and Niece Motorsports earned one pole, three wins and 10 top-five finishes. In addition, Chastain captured the most stage wins and led the most laps. Chastain and the No. 45 team finished second in both the driver and owner point standings.

Hocevar began racing Quarter Midgets when he was just six years old. He won 15 United States Auto Club championships and 79 Quarter Midget National races.

Under the guidance of 2008 NGROTS champion Johnny Benson, Jr., Hocevar graduated to full-sized stock cars in 2015, and immediately made an impact by winning an Outlaw Late Model feature at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Michigan as a 12-year-old.

Later that summer, he earned his first Super Late Model victory at Berlin at the age of 13, becoming the youngest winner in both Late Model divisions with his victories that season.

In 2016, Hocevar had a breakout season, winning the Berlin track championship as a 14-year-old — the youngest in NASCAR Whelen All-American Series history — and added three other victories on the regional JEGS/CRA All-Stars Pro Late Model Tour.

The remainder of Niece Motorsports’ driver lineup is forthcoming.

  • Ross Chastain wins Most Popular Driver Award in Gander Trucks

Ross Chastain wins Most Popular Driver Award in Gander Trucks

    By Staff Report | NASCAR.com

Ross Chastain, the breakout star of the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series season, has claimed one final honor: 2019 NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series Most Popular Driver.

Chastain didn’t even plan to even be a full-time Gander Trucks driver in 2019, but he quickly became the busiest driver in NASCAR after his 2018 plans fell through, driving as many races as he could in all three NASCAR national series.

The fans took notice as Chastain won the award for the first time, with the news coming on his 27th birthday.

In June, Niece Motorsports – which supplies the No. 45 Chevrolet for Chastain – announced Chastain would change his points declaration from the Xfinity Series to Gander Trucks, allowing the driver to compete for the series championship … and the Most Popular Driver in this series.

While Chastain fell short of lifting the big trophy, he provided a summer stretch for the ages that saw him grow into one of NASCAR’s most successful drivers on any level, and introduced a new celebration in the process – smashing a watermelon to smithereens.

Chastain won three Gander Trucks races this season (plus one for good measure in the Xfinity Series) while logging 10 top-five finishes and 19 top 10s in 23 starts. He advanced to the Championship 4, finishing second on the season to champion Matt Crafton.

    TOYOTA QUOTES

AUSTIN HILL, No. 16 Chiba Toyopet Toyota Tundra, Hattori Racing Enterprises

    Finishing Position: 1st

    How special is this win?

“I just have to give it all to my guys. This is probably the best truck that I’ve had. I know we were really good at Vegas, but man, this thing was good. At Vegas we were on a different tire strategy than other guys, but we weren’t this time and we just showed then how good we actually were. I’m excited for the win, but at the same time it stings a little bit because I know if we would have been a little better in the Round of 6, we could be celebrating a win and a championship. I can’t thank everybody on this team enough. Can’t thank Chiba Toyopet, Toyota, TRD enough. With this win we locked up the manufacturer’s championship for Toyota so I’m really glad that I could be a part of that and help that out. Awesome way to end the season.”

How strong was your truck in tonight’s race?

“This truck was on rails all night. Just a little on the tight side. Scott (Zipadelli, crew chief) made some awesome adjustments there and got the truck a little bit better. We were good all night. That pit stop, I kind of took it a little too easy coming down the pit road and I think that kind of hurt us a little bit on coming out third. I had to work extra hard to get back up there and get back to the lead. Can’t thank Toyota enough. Chiba Toyotapet – this Toyota Tundra was really good all night long. TRD and United Rentals – can’t thank those guys enough. To be able to win this race and lock down the Toyota manufacturer championship means a lot to me so I’m glad I could help Toyota out with that.”

What is it like to have a truck so strong that no one can get around you?

“That’s what we focused on all practice long. Last year they were pretty good running the bottom with Brett (Moffitt). That’s all we focused on. We moved up to the top a few times throughout practice just to see what it would do up there, but it didn’t fire off the best for like five laps and then all of the sudden whenever the tire wear started coming in, everybody else was dropping like flies and we could just keep wrapping that bottom. Anytime I wanted to roll the bottom or roll the very top, I could and make speed. And run the same times on the top or bottom. This truck was really good tonight, that’s all I can say.”

CHRISTIAN ECKES, No. 51 Mobil 1 Toyota Tundra, Kyle Busch Motorsports

    Finishing Position: 3rd

You locked up the owner’s championship for Kyle Busch with a third-place finish. Talk about your run.

“I struggled for most of the race honestly. This place is really tough. It got a little better there out front. Rudy (Fugle, crew chief) made a great call. We were able to lead some laps and come home third. It’s awesome to get another championship for these guys. I’m just ready for 2020.

2020. You will be full-time with Kyle Busch Motorsports. Talk about what you are most looking forward to.

“Hopefully this. It is a lot of fun with these guys. It’s always fun when you have fast trucks. I’m just looking forward to being able to celebrate with my guys.”

TYLER ANKRUM, No. 17 RAILBLAZA Toyota Tundra, DGR-Crosley

    Finishing Position: 26th

Congrats on the Rookie of the Year season. Talk about your season as a whole.

“It was an up-and-down season. We had a lot of great success. We ran top five a handful of times, and we won at Kentucky, which was huge for DGR-Crosley. Huge for Toyota and huge for myself.”

MATT CRAFTON, No. 88 Menards Ford F-150 – POST-RACE INTERVIEW

YOU ARE A 3-TIME CHAMPION. HOW DOES IT FEEL? “It feels amazing. It’s one step closer to what Hornaday has done, and they called us the underdog. I heard Bodine and everybody say I was the underdog and I didn’t have it. We fought harder. I guarantee you every one of these guys worked harder and this Menard Ford F-150 was fast tonight. The first run I was like, ‘Oh, boy we’re in trouble.’ But we just made air-pressure adjustments from there. We made a few adjustments to tighten it up because we thought the track was gonna be green it was gonna go away, but this thing ran flawless all night and the motor was very good as well and everything just went our way. I was praying there, ‘I do not want a yellow right here at the end of this thing.’”

AT PHOENIX ALL THE THINGS YOU GUYS STRUGGLED WITH STARTED TO TURN AROUND AND YOU DID THE SAME THING TONIGHT. WHAT MADE THE DIFFERENCE? “I guess I finally got out of the wheelchair and got up on the wheel and got it done. Like I said, I took a lot of criticism over the restarts and it was time to get it done now.”

    Toyota Racing – Christian Eckes
NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series Quotes

HOMESTEAD, Fla. (November 15, 2019) – Tundra driver Christian Eckes was made available to media at Homestead-Miami Speedway:

CHRISTIAN ECKES, No. 51 Mobil 1 Toyota Tundra, Kyle Busch Motorsports

What does it mean to be driving for Kyle Busch Motorsports in 2020?

“Obviously, I’m really excited for it. I’ve been with Kyle Busch Motorsports and Toyota Racing for a lot of years now. Finally, the opportunity to run full time with Safelite and Toyota is huge for me. Just something I’ve been waiting for, for a really long time. It’s great to take advantage of it.”

What is the Kyle Busch driver tryout format like and how does it make you feel to know, ‘only the strong survive?’

“Certainly, I’ve been involved with Toyota Racing now since the (Snowball) Derby so for four years now maybe. It’s kind of been a slow progression and this is what they had setup from the beginning. It’s been awesome to have been a part of and just glad I finally have the opportunity to go and run full time.”

What’s your progression level that you would like as far as a goal?

“Next year we’ll have the championship in site. First, I have one to go win today with the owner’s championship. That’s obviously the ultimate goal is to win races and get a championship. We’re definitely going to be looking forward to that next year. It’s going to be a lot of fun with Safelite and getting to know all their employees and everybody in there. It’s going to be fun, just looking forward to it.”

What was the timeline of when you found out you would be full time with KBM in the Truck Series?

“It was in the works for a long time now. I really didn’t know for sure until Monday of this week. I was actually surprised they announced it this early. It’s so cool to finally be able to know and have that pressure off. It definitely would have sucked if I wasn’t racing this year or next year. I’m just looking forward to it and honored to have the opportunity.”

Is this opportunuty beyond anything you could have imagined in your career?

“Absolutely. Like I said, I was completely content with just running Legends cars on the weekends when I was younger. As I’ve progressed and gotten better and better and moved up the ranks and just kind of elevated everything a lot more. My mindset on that is definitely a lot different now. Hopefully, we can get on a path like Christopher (Bell) and everybody that’s been in the Toyota program and kind of go through that and make it to the ultimate goal.”

Do you see this as the beginning for you?

“Absolutely. This is definitely a huge step for me. Running ARCA is cool and all, but finally getting in the top three national series is huge. Just going to take advantage of this opportunity and not let everybody down.”

How big of a push will you make you get Rudy Fugle as your crew chief next season?

“Just going to have to see what happens. The crew chiefs really havne’t been aligned yet. Obviously, I’ve worked with Rudy for a year and I’d like to be back with him because we just built that relationship. But I’ll get what I get and go from there. KBM has so many great crew chiefs and any one of them I feel like I can win with. We’re just going to have to see what happens.”

How did the call come about that you would be full time in 2020?

“I got a text that they were annoucing it so I was like, ‘okay, I guess it’s mine.’ It was a little informal to be honest, but at the same time it was still an awesome text to receive and one that I’ll remember for awhile.”

How cool is it to have Kyle Busch’s support in all this?

“It’s been super cool to get to know Kyle (Busch) and to have him help me along the way. He’s been crucial in us getting better. Whether it’s him driving our trucks or just help outside the race track. If you have a question, you just shoot him a text. As a whole, it’s been cool to have him around so far and looking forward to building on the relationship next year.”

How much does it help to have a similar experience from Venturini to KBM?

“Both of them have so many resources along with Toyota Racing to help us out along the way. It’s kind of been a slow progression. I started out part-time with Venturini and then started part-time with KBM. Had two part-time seasons for both and then it kind of led into a full-time season. It’s progressed like that and just honored to be a part of it.”

Are there nerves associated with this opportunity?

“Obviously there’s pressure. There’s a lot of excitement too. I’ve been kind of waiting for this opportunity for a really long time. Being in really great trucks and I’ve had great opportunities along the way, but finally to get a full-time ride in the top-three series is huge for me. It’s definitely a lot of excitement, but at the same time I have to perform. There’s no way around it. I have to go out there and I have to compete for wins. I’ve done an okay job at that this year, but I need to be better next year. Just looking forward to that progression and seeing what happens.”

Do you feel you should be able to immediately perform?

“Yeah, for sure. I’ve been able to not really build up a resume, but build up a schedule pretty much over the past few years running on mile-and-a-halves with KBM, running the trucks on both the mile-and-a-halves and the short tracks. To be able to do that definitely gets me more prepared than I would have been if I just went in last year or something like that. I definitely agree with that.”

How are you going to turn KBM around from the challenges of this season?

“I’m not really sure honestly. We’re just going to have to go and do our jobs. Kyle (Busch) puts a lot of pressure on us, that’s for sure. It’s deserved. This is an organization with such a reputation for winning themes. We definitely need to go out and we need to perform. I think the biggest thing is that we just need to go do our jobs and see what happens.’

Do you think you can get them back into the championship picture?

“I think so. I feel like I’ve kind of proven that this year with winning the ARCA championship and competing for wins. We haven’t been able to put it together yet, but I feel once I’m able to put it together, it’s kind of like ARCA and how it went for me. I feel like the wins will come and then a championship at the end of the year will come as well.”

Are you happen with your performance this season?

“We’ve sat on four poles in seven races. It’s been impressive to say the least. We have the speed, I just have to learn how to put them all togther.”

Team: No. 45 CarShield Chevrolet Silverado
    Driver: Ross Chastain
    Follow the Team: @NieceMotorsport; @RossChastain

Ross Chastain on Racing at Homestead: “This is the week we’ve been waiting for. I love coming home to race in Florida, and I love racing at Homestead. As a race car driver, this week is a dream come true. All you can ask for is a chance to compete for wins and championships, and we’ve accomplished that together this year at Niece Motorsports. I’m so grateful for everyone at Niece Motorsports and CarShield for getting us here. We’re ready to get on track this week, press the attack, and give it all we’ve got.”

Championship 4: Chastain enters Friday’s race as one of four drivers eligible to win the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series (NGOTS) championship. The top-four drivers’ points were reset following last week’s race at ISM Raceway, with all four entering Friday night’s race tied with 4,000 points.

Chastain, who started the season declaring points in the NASCAR XFINITY Series, changed his points declaration to the NGOTS following the seventh race of the season. In order to make the playoffs, Chastain would need to win at least one race and move into the top-20 in points to be eligible to compete.

It took Chastain and the No. 45 CarShield team just four races to win a race and move into the top-20 in points.

Entering the season finale, Chastain has led the most laps; over 100 more than the next closest competitor. In addition, Chastain has the most stage wins with seven; two more than the next closest competitor.

Chastain at Homestead: Friday’s race will mark Chastain’s sixth NGOTS start at Homestead-Miami Speedway. In his five previous starts, Chastain has two top-10 and three top-15 finishes.

Chastain has five NASCAR XFINITY Series starts at Homestead, with four top-20 finishes.

In addition, Chastain has one Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series start at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

On the Truck: CarShield continues to support Chastain and the No. 45 Chevrolet in its championship bid.

Spencer Davis, Rette Jones Racing return to Truck Series competition for season finale

HOMESTEAD, Fla.: With their NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (NKNPSE) season complete, Rette Jones Racing will compete in Friday’s Ford EcoBoost 200 at Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway looking to propel driver Spencer Davis to his second top-10 of the season.

Poised to make his fifth NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series (NGOTS) start of the year and fourth with Rette Jones Racing, the duo looks to recover from another strong effort that was derailed in the closing laps at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway where a flat tire relegated the team to an 18th-place finish.

With their No. 11 truck repaired and ready for the race track, the Mooresville, N.C.-based team led by crew chief and team owner Mark Rette are optimistic about the final 134 laps of the 2019 season.

“I’m thankful for the opportunity to race at Homestead-Miami Speedway this weekend,” said Davis.

“Anytime I can hop in a truck and gain some additional on-track experience is a good thing. A blessing really.

“We’ve been working hard on this truck since Las Vegas and the K&N East finale at Dover to get it ready for Homestead. I’ve never been there, but I’m upbeat about the opportunity to go and conquer another race track.”

For Homestead, Hearn Industrial Services which specializes in transportation, warehousing, quality containment and inspection services and assembly sequencing operations to support the automotive and other industries will serve as the team’s primary partner in Miami.

Season-long partners ALLPRO Corporation and Tower Sealants will serve as associate partners for the 2019 finale.

ALLPRO Corporation is a business-to-business purchasing cooperative comprised of a network of independently owned paint and decorating product retailers. They serve over 280 such member retailers who represent approximately 1,400 storefronts located throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and parts of Europe.

Tower Sealants is a manufacturer of top-quality caulks and sealants. With the strong financial backing of M-D Building Products, Tower Sealants started construction of its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in September of 2005 and opened for business March 1, 2006.

“I’m very humbled to represent Hearn Industrial Services this weekend at Homestead,” added Davis.

“They have a huge presence in Canada and have begun expanding their services to the United States.

“It’s important for me to go to Homestead and leave nothing on the table and bring our partners and everyone on this Rette Jones Racing team a strong finish that we can proud about going into the offseason while looking ahead to 2020.”

For Rette, he is optimistic about Homestead but believes he has one of the best drivers in the field to negotiate the tough 1.5-mile speedway and raise the clout of Rette Jones Racing.

“No matter what happens on Friday, it’s been a heck of a season for Rette Jones Racing and our driver Spencer Davis,” said Rette.

“We won a race in the K&N East Series, led laps, got a top-10 in trucks and more. When you sit back and think about it, it’s really a lot to be proud of.

“To see the maturity in Spencer throughout the year has been equally fun to watch. A devoted worker by day, a fierce racer by night – his determination to succeed is parallel with some of the big names in stock car racing.

“We’ll go to Homestead and leave nothing on the table and try to bring Hearn Industrial Services a great finish.”

RJR is co-owned by Canadian entrepreneur and former race car driver Terry Jones.

This season in K&N East Series competition, RJR earned one win, six top-five and 11 top-10 finishes in 12 races and finished fourth in the driver and owner championship standings respectively, a career-high.

In 44 career NASCAR K&N Pro Series East starts, Davis has earned two victories (Dominion (Va.) Raceway 2016, Gateway 2019), two poles, achieved 20 top-five and 33 top-10 finishes. He has also 364 laps led in event competition.

Davis also has nine NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series (NGOTS) starts to his credit – four in 2018 driving for Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM), three in 2019 for Rette Jones Racing and one for Niece Motorsports. He earned three top-10 finishes including a career-best of seventh in his series’ debut at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.
