Kaden Honeycutt on Friday’s Race at Martinsville Speedway: “I enjoy short track racing, so I’m looking forward to getting to Martinsville with this Niece Motorsports group in our Chevy Accessories Silverado,” said Honeycutt. “Hoping I can carry some momentum from the Orange Krush 200 win at Orange County Speedway last week, over to this weekend. I know Phil [Gould] and the team are working hard to bring us a fast truck. We’ll do our best to run a clean race and be up front at the end when it counts.”

By The Numbers: Friday’s race marks Honeycutt’s 23rd NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series start, and his third at Martinsville Speedway.

Honeycutt also has one NASCAR Xfinity Series start at Martinsville Speedway, coming in 2023.

On the Truck: Honeycutt’s No. 45 Chevrolet Silverado will race with support from Chevy Accessories. Visit chevy.com/accessories to browse the latest accessories to personalize and enhance your vehicle.

Recapping the Last Race: Ross Chastain and the No. 45 team showed speed in Friday’s practice and qualifying session, earning a fifth-place starting spot for Saturday afternoon’s XPEL 225. Chastain battled a loose-handling race truck for the majority the race. A speeding penalty during green flag pit stops and a spin after contact to the bumper of the No. 45 made it tough for Chastain to work his way back through the field. Phil Gould and team made adjustments throughout the race, with Chastain battling in the top-five during the closing laps, ultimately crossing the line in fifth.

Ross Chastain on Last Race at Circuit of the Americas: “It’s bucket-list stuff to come back and race with Al Niece and the whole Niece team here at Circuit of the Americas,” said Chastain. “Another fifth-place finish, but not the speed we wanted for sure. We struggled with rear grip the whole weekend and Phil Gould and the guys took some big swings at the truck and got it dialed in by the end. I couldn’t be prouder to work with the entire Niece organization and help wherever I can. This weekend was good to get back in the truck and there are some things we can look at to get better. Thank you to TXAPA and MG Machinery for joining us again this weekend and everyone that makes these Chevrolets fast.”

Thad Moffitt and Team Ready to Race Under the Lights Friday Night

SALISBURY, N.C. (April 3, 2024) — It will be a homecoming for Thad Moffitt this Friday night at the Martinsville (Va.) Speedway. Growing up in Trinity, N.C., Moffitt, and the Petty family have always thought of Martinsville Speedway as their home away from home. Moffitt grew up going to the paperclip-shaped oval since he can remember and is now ready to make his NASCAR debut at the track.

“It’s crazy that I’ve grown up so close to Martinsville and have been going there since I was really a baby, but have never raced there,” said Moffitt. “So, it’s going to be a pretty special day on Friday to join the family legacy at the track.”

Returning as the primary partner to the Faction46 Chevrolet is Induction Innovations. Induction Innovations is a manufacturer of high-performance induction heaters for the automotive industry. The company is the producer of the Mini-Ductor®.

Induction Innovations tools are designed to solve problems such as removing stuck or corroded parts and adhesives in a faster, safer, and more precise way than using an open flame torch.

“It’s great to have Induction Innovations back on the truck,” commented Moffitt. “We didn’t give them the finish we wanted at COTA, and we want to do that on Friday night.”

Moffitt and the team are hoping to have a weekend with no issues to optimize their performance and result.

“We just really need to have no issues on Friday,” continued Moffitt. “We have had small things happen to our truck and we just want to be out there racing. That is what Friday is all about because when we are out there gaining experience, we have really shown a lot of progress and speed. That is what is really showing our potential. So, a good solid finish will help us right now.”

Faction46 and Moffitt will race the Long John Silver’s 200 Friday night at 7:30 p.m. ET on FS1.

  • Standout Sammy Smith to Pilot Spire Motorsports No. 7 Chevy Silverado in Four NCTS Races

Standout Sammy Smith to Pilot Spire Motorsports No. 7 Chevy Silverado in Four NCTS Races

Iowa Native named to Spire Motorsports All-Star Lineup

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (March 27, 2024) – Sammy Smith will steer Spire Motorsports’ No. 7 Chevrolet Silverado in four NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series (NCTS) races in 2024, beginning with the April 5 Long John Silver’s 200 at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway.

In addition to the Martinsville Friday-night-under-the lights 200-lap tilt, Smith will be in the cockpit of the No. 7 Chevy Silverado May 18 at North Wilkesboro (N.C.) Speedway, July 19 at Indianapolis Raceway Park (IRP) and August 25 at the Milwaukee Mile.

Smith, 19, is the full-time driver of the No. 8 Chevrolet Camaro for JR Motorsports in the NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS). He has logged three top-10 finishes in five races this season and earned a season-best eighth-place effort earlier this month at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

In 2023, the talented prospect scored his first NASCAR Xfinity Series win at Phoenix Raceway in just his 13th start and went on to score the division’s rookie-of-the year honors.

The Johnston, Iowa native has three previous NXS starts at the legendary Virginia speedway where he finished second and third, respectively last season. Smith, a two-time ARCA Menards East Series Champion, is also a previous Milwaukee race winner in ARCA Menards Series competition.

TMC Transportation will serve as Smith’s primary sponsor at Martinsville. Pilot Flying J will assume the same role at North Wilkesboro and Golden Harvest will round out Smith’s time behind the wheel of the No. 7 Chevy Silverado at IRP and Milwaukee.

“I am looking forward to these four races with Spire Motorsports,” said Smith. “These tracks are good tracks for me, and I know that Spire knows how to bring fast trucks, capable of winning. I am thankful for the support of TMC Transportation, Pilot Flying J, Golden Harvest, and all of my partners. We hope to make them proud of our results.”

Smith made his lone NCTS start in last year’s season opener at Daytona International Speedway where he started 20th and raced his way to a respectable 14th-place finish.

Smith is a six-time ARCA Menards Series national tour race winner, who has won eight times in the ARCA Menards Series East and once in the ARCA Menards Series West. The talented teenager earned a CARS Pro Late Model Tour victory in 2021 at Jennerstown (Pa.) Speedway and four pavement super late model wins that same season. A year later, he picked up another super late model victory in a combination ARCA CRA Super Series/Southern Super Series race at North Wilkesboro.

He has also earned wins in some of the United States’ most notable late model races including the Winchester 400, Red Bud 400 and Florida Governor’s Cup.

“Sammy Smith is a versatile talent who is a great addition to our all-star driver lineup for Spire Motorsports’ No. 7 Chevy Silverado,” said Spire Motorsports president Doug Duchardt. “He’s a remarkably talented short-track racer who has already won at the Milwaukee Mile and North Wilkesboro, so he’s a perfect fit for this four-race schedule. We’re excited to see him in the seat in a couple weeks at Martinsville.”

The Long John Silver’s 200 from Martinsville Speedway will be televised live on FS1 Friday April 5, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The sixth of 23 NCTS races on the 2024 schedule will be broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90.

Matt Mills on Saturday’s Race at Circuit of the Americas: “It was for sure a learning day,” said Mills. “We didn’t feel like we had the exact speed we needed, but each lap we were getting faster and that’s on me learning the track and picking up on some of the situational things you don’t see as you do at ovals. Overall, it was a good day. We got what we could, and we were competing for the top-15 there at the end. I felt like I got a bump off the track through the esses at the end and ultimately got a penalty from that.”

Race Recap: Mills turned his first laps at Circuit of the Americas during Friday afternoon’s practice and qualifying session. Mills ended the afternoon with a 24th-place starting spot for Saturday’s race. Mills ran a clean race, learning the course and ticking off laps. As the laps wound down, Mills found himself competing for position inside the top-15, before a 30-second penalty at the end of the race left him with a 24th-place finish in the No. 42 J.F. Bayley Currey on Saturday’s Race at Circuit of the Americas: “It was a disappointing day,” said Currey. “We had a brake issue yesterday and got that fixed, and then about lap five today we lost power steering. It was just a rough day afterwards. The truck had speed and I hate coming to my home track and to not have a good day. Everyone on my No. 41 team worked so hard all day to keep me in the fight and to finish in 16th after all that. We’ll take it and move along to Martinsville.”

Race Recap: Currey and the No. 41 team diagnosed a brake issue after Friday’s practice and qualifying session. The repairs forced Currey to start Saturday’s race at the tail-end of the field. Currey quickly began working his way through the pack when he lost power steering early in the race. Currey and the No. 41 team worked hard to maintain position in the top-20, battling a fuel pressure issue as well.
