NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Press Release

  • Codie Rohrbaugh, CR7 Motorsports optimistic for Truck Series superspeedway debut at Talladega

Codie Rohrbaugh, CR7 Motorsports optimistic for Truck Series superspeedway debut at Talladega

TALLADEGA, Ala.: With one of his best finishes of the 2019 NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series season in the books in the most recent race at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway, Codie Rohrbaugh and his CR7 Motorsports head to Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway hoping for a strong superspeedway debut in Saturday afternoon’s Sugarlands Shine 250.

Increased Gander Truck Series schedule this season has certainly been full of ups and downs, but Rohrbaugh has continued to gain attention with the speed of his No. 9 Grant County Mulch Chevrolet Silverado and hopes to continue that path with just three races remaining in their season.

Following Talladega, the Mooresville, N.C.-based team plans to compete at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway on Oct. 26 and the season-finale at Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway on Nov. 15.

After missing the season-opener at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in February,

Rohrbaugh and his team have worked vigorously on their superspeedway program over the past eight months and feel they are in a much better position with their Grant County Mulch Racing team than before.

“We’ve made a lot of improvements to our team since February,” said Rohrbaugh. “We’ve made our trucks better and enhanced our personnel. With the strength of my crew chief Dough George – who has a lot of experience at Talladega and confidence from our team manager Mark Huff, I feel pretty good about going to Talladega this weekend and having a good performance.”

While a rookie at Talladega in trucks, the 2.66-mile superspeedway is no stranger to Rohrbaugh.

In 2017 and 2018, the Petersburg, West Virginia native made two ARCA Menards Series starts at the famed Alabama track earning a best finish of 14th in his track debut in 2017.
He returned a year later and was in contention to contend for his first ARCA win but was eliminated in what should have been the last lap of the race.

This time around, the 25-year-old is focused out the windshield and bringing his team their best Truck Series finish in their seventh race of the year.

“There are a lot of factors when it comes to Talladega, everyone knows that,” added Rohrbaugh. “A lot of it is luck, but I’m confident in my guys bringing me a fast No. 9 Grant County Mulch Chevrolet Silverado and the advice of my spotter Tim (Fedewa) for his guidance up above.

“Our season is slowly coming to an end – but we still have a lot of work to do. We want to get ourselves a top-10 finish by the end of the year. That’s our main goal before we get focused on 2020.

“Talladega is a great opportunity to accomplish that goal and carry some momentum into the short track race at Martinsville. Just thankful for my guys, teams and our partners.”
CR7 Motorsports has eight NGOTS starts to their credit with a career-best finish of 14th at Kentucky Speedway (July 2019). A 14th place qualifying effort at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway (May 2019) is the team’s best time trials effort to date.

In 20 career ARCA starts, Rohrbaugh has a best finish of seventh twice at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway (July 2018 and Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway (February 2019). He has qualified a career-best fourth on four different occasions most recently at Kansas Speedway (Oct. 2018).

Marketing partnership(s) opportunities are available for the No. 7 Grant County Mulch Chevrolet and No. 9 Grant County Mulch Chevrolet for the 2019 ARCA Menards Series and NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series seasons and beyond. Interested inquiries are encouraged to contact at tonya@gcmulch.com or 304.257.8783.

Following Talladega, CR7 Motorsports plans to return to the Gander Truck Series scene at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway for the NASCAR Hall of Fame 200 on Sat., Oct. 26, 2019.

The Sugarlands Shine 250 (94 laps | 250.04 miles) is the 20th of 23 races on the 2019 NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series schedule. Practice begins on Fri., Oct. 11 from 11:35 a.m. – 12:25 p.m. A final practice has been etched in from 2:35 p.m. – 3:25 p.m. Qualifying is set for race day, Sat., Oct. 12 beginning at 9:35 a.m. The 32-truck field will take the green flag shortly after 12:30 p.m. with live coverage on FOX, the Motor Racing Network (Radio) and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Satellite Radio, Channel 90). All times are local (Central).

Anthony Alfredo, No. 15 Mavis Discount Tire Toyota Tundra
Anthony Alfredo will return to action in the seat of his No. 15 Toyota Tundra as the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series heads to Talladega Superspeedway. Alfredo is excited to have Mavis Discount Tire adorn the sides of his Tundra for the Sugarlands Shine 250.
The Sugarlands Shine 250 at Talladega Superspeedway will mark Alfredo’s first career race at a Superspeedway. Although the 20-year-old rookie does not have experience at this type of racing, Alfredo understands patience is the key to success at these plate races. In ten career Gander Outdoors Truck starts this season, Alfredo has accumulated two top-ten finishes.
The No. 15 Toyota Team will come into Talladega this weekend led by crew chief Chris Lawson calling the shots from the pit box and veteran spotter Eddie D’Hondt.
The 94 lap Sugarlands Shine 250 will be broadcast live on FS1 beginning at 1:30 p.m., ET on Saturday, Oct. 12.
Alfredo on Talladega: “I am very excited for my first plate racing experience at Talladega. It is such a historic race track and an iconic part of the sport. I expect it to be a learning experience for me, but with the way those races play out and the speed of our DGR-Crosley Toyota Tundra’s at Daytona, I am confident we will have as good a shot to win as anyone. We just need to stay out of trouble and be in position at the end when it matters most to capitalize. I’m very thankful for all of my partners who make this possible for me and everyone who supports me. I’m ready to go put our #15 Toyota Tundra out front on the big stage!”
Tyler Ankrum, No. 17 May’s Hawaii Toyota Tundra
After advancing to the round of six in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series Playoffs, Tyler Ankrum and his No. 17 team will be full of confidence as the Series makes its next stop at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. Ankrum will sport the May’s Hawaii colors on board his Toyota Tundra.
The Sugarlands Shine 250 will mark Ankrum’s Superspeedway debut in the NASCAR Gander Outdoor Truck Series. The 18-year-old Sunoco Rookie of the Year did not compete in the season opener at Daytona International Speedway due to age restrictions. Ankrum will enter the new round of the playoffs nine points below the cut line. In sixteen career Gander Outdoor Truck Series races, Ankrum has accumulated a win, three top-five, and seven top-ten finishes.
The No. 17 team will be led by veteran crew chief Kevin ‘Bono’ Manion from atop the pit box. The 94 lap Sugarlands Shine 250 will be broadcast live on FS1 beginning at 1:30 p.m., ET on Saturday, Oct. 12.
Natalie Decker, No. 54 N29 Technologies Toyota Tundra
Natalie Decker is full of both excitement and determination as her No. 54 Toyota Tundra team prepares for one of the most unpredictable races of the season at Talladega Superspeedway. Decker will once again sport blue colors on the sides of her Tundra with N29 Technologies back on board as her primary sponsor. The No. 54 team will welcome a new associate sponsor to the team as Double D Express Towing and Transport joins them for the race at Talladega.
The Sugarlands Shine 250 will be Decker’s second career Superspeedway start in the Gander Outdoors Truck Series. Her first Superspeedway start came in February at the season opening Daytona race; however, Decker only made a few laps before her No. 54 went up in flames early in the race. Although she has limited experience, Decker has competed at the 2.66-mile oval twice in the ARCA Menards Series.
The No. 54 Team will come into Talladega this weekend led by veteran crew chief Frank Kerr calling the shots atop the pit box.

The 94 lap Sugarlands Shine 250 will be broadcast live on FS1 beginning at 1:30 p.m., ET on Saturday, Oct. 12.

Decker on Talladega: “I love Superspeedways. Talledega was the first Superspeedway I ever raced in an ARCA car a few years ago. I just knew then I was going to love plate racing and love Talledega! We started on fire on the first lap at Daytona so I haven’t even really gotten a chance to compete in the truck at a Superspeedway yet, so I’ve been looking forward to Talledega all year since then.”

Garrett at Las Vegas: Garrett looks to make his first start in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series on Friday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

About Garrett: Unlike most race car drivers who have been racing karts since early childhood, Garrett did not begin racing until he was 14 years old. His very first year of racing was 2015, when he ran a Pure Stock car and finished 8th in points at South Boston Speedway.

In his second season of racing in 2016, Garrett successfully transitioned to a NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Limited Late Model Stock Car and finished 4th in points at South Boston Speedway.

In just his third racing season, Garrett was South Boston Speedway’s 2017 Limited Sportsman Division Champion and broke the track’s qualifying record twice during the season.

In 2018, Garrett raced in both the K&N Pro Series East and the Late Model Division.

The 2019 season has seen Garrett compete in the K&N Pro Series, in addition to making his first NASCAR XFINITY Series start at Richmond Raceway.

On the Truck: The No. 38 Chevrolet Silverado will carry the Wide Open Entrepreneurs colors this week at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The inaugural Wide Open Entrepreneurs Conference, with keynote speaker Steve D. Sims, looks to help struggling businesses find success or give new entrepreneurs the tools they need to finally start their dream business.

  • Gus Dean returns to Las Vegas hoping to hit jackpot with LG Air Conditioning Technologies

Gus Dean returns to Las Vegas hoping to hit jackpot with LG Air Conditioning Technologies

LAS VEGAS, Nev.: Feeling refreshed following a brief break from NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series (NGOTS) competition, rookie Gus Dean (@GusDean) returns to Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway for Friday night’s World of Westgate 200 looking to continue a consistent surge in performance aboard his No. 12 Chevrolet Silverado for Young’s Motorsports.

While Dean, a two-time winner in the ARCA Menards Series has certainly endured some rookie bumps this season, the Bluffton, S.C.-native has increased his presence inside the top-10 over the past month and hopes to continue that trend as LG Air Conditioning Technologies returns for their fifth sponsored race of the 2019 season.

“I’m eager to get back to Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend,” said Dean. “We had a good truck there in the spring, but I made a mistake and it cost us a good opportunity for a good finish.

“Luckily, we were able to salvage the race and I learned a lot. Hopefully that experience will pay some dividends in my return on Friday night.”

Returning to Las Vegas, the 25-year-old Dean says working with crew chief Ryan Loudon has been beneficial over the past month and a half and feels like this week’s race offers the opportunity to continue to showcase their improving strength.

“I know we don’t have a lot of races left this season, but we’re determined to make some noise and end the year on a high note,” added Dean. “Pickle (Ryan) and I are really starting to gel, and I think our uptick in performance is giving everyone at Young’s Motorsports something to be proud of.

“Las Vegas is a fast race track and drafting will be key to success on Friday night. The guys are really upbeat about the No. 12 LG Air Conditioning Technologies Chevrolet Silverado that we are bringing to the race track and hopefully we can carry that enthusiasm to the checkered flag.”

Dean who also participated in this past weekend’s Speed51 Super Select Late Model race at Lucas Oil Raceway Park in Indianapolis says he is thrilled to have LG Air Conditioning Technologies and Baker Distributing back on his truck for his 19th career Truck Series start.

“It’s cool to have LG on the truck for two of the last three races and they will finish out a majority of the rest of the year me at Young’s Motorsports,” added Dean.

“I feel like we have done a good job getting LG Air Conditioning Technologies and Baker the exposure we were hoping for in their first foray into NASCAR and I’m committed to keeping ourselves as close to the front as possible – so we can continue to bring them good exposure but bring home some good finishes to go along with the consistency. Hopefully, we can double down on Friday night before focusing on Talladega next month.”

Codie Rohrbaugh; CR7 Motorsports ”all in” at Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev.: Shaking off the disappointment of Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway last month, NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series (NGOTS) rookie Codie Rohrbaugh and his CR7 Motorsports are refocused and reenergized heading to Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway for Friday night’s World of Westgate 200.

After skipping the spring Las Vegas Truck Series race, Rohrbaugh and his Doug George led team head to the 1.5-mile speedway ready to place their bets and give an “all in” performance in hopes of the team’s first career top-10 finish.

“Excited to go to Las Vegas,” said Rohrbaugh. “It’s a neat place from a tourist standpoint, but Las Vegas Motor Speedway is also a great place to race. It’s fast speeds, tight corners and intense action. Hopefully, all our bad luck is behind us this season and we can surge ahead for our remaining races this season.”

Running a limited schedule this season, Mooresville, N.C.-based CR7 Motorsports is focused on running four of the remaining five races this year. After skipping the penultimate race of the year at ISM (Ariz.) Raceway, the team will take the checkered flag at Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway in November.
“We’re not running for points, so we’re trying some things to improve on our-track performance and deliverance,” added Rohrbaugh.

“Qualifying certainly has been our achilles heel. We’ve been so used to group qualifying and now you have just one or two laps to get it done and if you have a bobble like we did at Bristol, it’s the difference from making the race or sitting on the sidelines.

“We know where we need to improve, and we’re determined to show everyone how we’re going to improve between Las Vegas and Homestead and give us a boost heading into the off-season and prepare for 2020.”

While the 25-year-old Rohrbaugh has never been to Las Vegas, he’s relying not on his prior experience at the other intermediate race tracks to help with his learning curve, but the advice and guidance from crew chief George.

“There’s always some apprehensive when you visit a track for the first time,” explained Rohrbaugh. “We’ll probably take it easy for the first couple of runs just to make sure I’m comfortable and then we’ll get aggressive.

“I think Las Vegas has shown again and again how dependent the race is on drafting and I expect no different on Friday night. Hopefully, we can keep our nose clean and leave Las Vegas accomplishing our goal of earning a top-10 finish.”

CR7 Motorsports has seven NGOTS starts to their credit with a career-best finish of 14th at Kentucky Speedway (July 2019). A 14th place qualifying effort at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor
Speedway (May 2019) is the team’s best time trials effort to date.

Following Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway, CR7 Motorsports plans to return to the Gander Truck Series scene at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway on Oct. 12, 2019.

The World of Westgate 200 (134 laps | 201 miles) is the 19th of 23 races on the 2019 NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series schedule. Practice begins on Fri., Sept. 13 from 8:05 a.m. – 9:55 a.m. Qualifying is set for later in the day beginning at 2:35 p.m. The 32-truck field will take the green flag shortly after 6:00 p.m. with live coverage on FOX Sports 1 (FS1), the Motor Racing Network (Radio) and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Satellite Radio, Channel 90). All times are local (Pacific).
