Dylan Lupton, No. 5 DGR-Crosley Toyota Tundra
Dylan Lupton will return to DGR-Crosley’s No. 5 Toyota Tundra entry this weekend as the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series heads west to Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway. Friday’s World of Westgate 200 will mark Lupton’s fourth race of the season for the team.
While it will be the 25-year-olds first attempt at the 1.5-mile track in the Truck Series, Lupton has one previous start at the track in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. He also has two starts at tracks 1.5-miles or larger in the Truck Series this season where he earned a fifth and 10th-place finish at Kentucky Motor Speedway and Chicagoland Speedway. While Lupton averages a 14th-place starting position and a 14th-place finish with DGR-Crosley, he has one top-five and two top-10 finishes. His only finish outside of the top-10 occurred at Bristol Motor Speedway where he was caught up in an accident. With three races remaining on his schedule this season, Lupton is looking to capture his first Truck Series win this weekend in Las Vegas.
Lupton will have his regular team at Las Vegas in crew chief Blake Bainbridge leading the charge and Chris Monez guiding him from the spotter stand.
The World of Westgate 200 will broadcast live at 9:00 p.m., ET on FS1.
Lupton on Las Vegas: “It’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve been in a truck, but I’m looking forward to getting back in action with the DGR-Crosley guys this week. Obviously, Bristol didn’t go as we had hoped, but we have an opportunity to recover in a big way on Friday night. I’ve got three races left with DGR-Crosley, and I’m determined to put us in Victory Lane by the end of the season. I’ve never been to Las Vegas in a Truck, but I have some laps in an Xfinity car. I’m hoping the transition will be seamless, and we can carry a lot of speed for not only qualifying but the race.”

Anthony Alfredo, No. 15 Sim Seats Toyota Tundra

After a month hiatus, Anthony Alfredo will return to the seat of the No. 15 as the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series heads to Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway. Alfredo will have a different look this weekend as Sim Seats will adorn the sides of his Tundra for the World of Westgate 200.

The 20-year-old Ridgefield, Conn. native has one previous start at Las Vegas Motor Speedway which occurred earlier this season. In his lone start at the 1.5-mile track, Alfredo started 14th and finished 18th. However, the result doesn’t show the impressive efforts of the No. 15 team. Alfredo was forced to rebound from several issues in the spring race, working himself inside the top-10 multiple times. A loose wheel ultimately relegated him to an 18th-place finish.

With six starts at 1.5-mile tracks this season, Alfredo has an average starting position of 14th and an average finish of 18th. His best finish of the season occurred at Charlotte Motor Speedway where he collected his first Truck Series top-10. Alfredo will have his regular team with him in Las Vegas with crew chief Chris Lawson and veteran Cup spotter Eddie D’Hondt.

The 134 lap World of Westgate 200 will be broadcast live on FS1 on Friday, Sept. 13 beginning at 8:30 p.m., ET.

Alfredo on Las Vegas: “I am really excited to head to Vegas since it is only the second track this year that I get to go to again for a second time. That helps us as a team because we already have a few notes from the first time we went there. We’ve also been improving every week, so we have some momentum to carry into the race. I’m also excited to have a new partner on board this weekend, Sim Seats Driving Simulators, and I’m determined to do my best to put them in Victory Lane. We’ve had some tough luck most of this year, so if it turns around anywhere it should be Las Vegas.”

Tyler Ankrum, No. 17 B/X Custom Designs Toyota Tundra
After a two week hiatus, the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series will be back in action this weekend as the series travels to the 1.5-mile track of Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway. Tyler Ankrum and his No. 17 May’s Hawaii team head into the NASCAR Playoff cutoff race in a must-win situation.

Ankrum will be taking on the 1.5-mile track in Las Vegas for the first time in his young career after being forced to miss the first three races of the 2019 season due to age restrictions. However, the 18-year-old Sunoco Rookie of the Year has six speedway starts so far this season. In those six starts, Ankrum has a win, two top-five, and three top-10 finishes. Ankrum’s first career Truck Series victory occurred at the 1.5-mile track of Kentucky Speedway. The No. 17 team has shown great speed and consistency at 1.5-mile tracks so far this season where they have an average starting position of 6th and finish of 10th.

The 2019 Playoffs got off to a rough start for Ankrum at Bristol Motor Speedway when an electrical issues put the No. 17 team in a big hole. The team rebounded at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park where Ankrum earned a ninth-place finish in his first road course race at the Truck Series. Now the team shifts their focus to Las Vegas where they are looking to win and advance to the Round of 6 in the NASCAR Playoffs.

The World of Westgate 200 will all take place on Friday, September 13th with live coverage on Fox Sports 1 beginning at 8:30 p.m., ET.

Ankrum on Canadian Tire: “I feel good headed to Las Vegas. I think the mile-and-a-half tracks have been our strong suit all year compared to other teams. DGR-Crosley was pretty solid in the spring at Vegas, with the notes that they gained from that race and what we have been building on all year, I think we can go out and win. We essentially have to win, but there are a few guys close on the playoff bubble that if they have a bad day, we can steal that spot. All things considered, it’s been a fantastic ride so far, and I’ve been thankful for the opportunity.”

Natalie Decker, No. 54 Ruedebusch Development and Construction Toyota Tundra
Natalie Decker will rejoin the No. 54 team this weekend as the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series travels to Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway. Decker will have new colors on the sides of her Tundra as she welcomes Ruedebusch Development and Construction to the team.

The World of Westgate 200 will be Decker’s second start at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Earlier this season, she earned a career-best 13th-place finish in her debut on the 1.5-mile track. Decker also scored her best qualifying effort in Vegas when she rolled off from the 12th position. This season Decker and her No. 54 team have six 1.5-mile speedway starts together where they average a 16th-place starting position, and 21st place finish. Decker heads into the weekend with confidence, looking to earn her first Truck Series top-10 finish.

Decker will have her regular team working on her No. 54 Tundra this weekend with veteran crew chief Frank Kerr calling the shots from the pit box. She will have a new voice guiding her from the spotter stand with Cup spotter, Coleman Presley.

The 134 lap World of Westgate 200 will be broadcast live on FS1 beginning at 9:00 p.m., ET on Friday, Sept. 13.

Decker on Las Vegas: “I’m looking forward to going to Vegas this week. We have some fun things leading up to the race going on with the Thunderbirds that I’m really excited about and then I’m confident going into this race weekend because we had a really good run there in the spring race. We qualified well and put together a solid race from start to finish. I think we can do the same thing this weekend.”

  • Spencer Davis; Rette Jones Racing ride momentum to Truck Series return at Las Vegas

Spencer Davis; Rette Jones Racing ride momentum to Truck Series return at Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev.: One of the hottest duos in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East is headed back to the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series (NGOTS).

On the heels of winning their first K&N East race together last month at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway, Rette Jones Racing and driver Spencer Davis trek to Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway with momentum on their side for Friday night’s World of Westgate 200.

Of course, RJR or the 20-year-old Davis didn’t need the momentum of their K&N East triumph at Gateway to carry them to Sin City. After all, the team performed magnificently in their most recent Truck Series race at Kentucky Speedway in July – where the team finished eighth in their second Truck Series event of the season.
With tons of confidence on their side, the pair heads to Las Vegas looking to double down and deliver back-to-back top-10 performances.

“I’m really proud of my Rette Jones Racing team,” said Davis. “We had a great finish at Kentucky Speedway in the Truck Series and were able to build on that confidence over to our K&N program, especially at Bristol Motor Speedway and then at Gateway where we brought home the checkered flag.

“Of course, it’s important for us not to get overconfident. These Truck Series races are though, especially in the Playoffs. I expect a competitive field on Friday night and we just need to take the same approach as Kentucky and hope it delivers us another good finish.”

The biggest benefit of the team’s approach at Kentucky was not beating themselves on the race track. Knowing Las Vegas is expected to be an intense race, Davis says their strategy throughout the day will be identical.

“We’re expecting a lot of trucks, so we need to make sure we have a good balance during practice and lay down a good lap in qualifying to make sure we’re in the show. From there, it’s just making laps – making sure we’re keeping up the adjustments and being around for the end to fight.

“I don’t get a lot of opportunities to run these Truck Series races, so I appreciate Mark (Rette), the guys and all our sponsors for allowing Las Vegas to happen.”

Davis, a native of Dawsonville, Ga. efforts behind the wheel of the No. 11 truck for Las Vegas will be supported by ALLPRO Corporation and Tower Sealants.

ALLPRO Corporation is a business-to-business purchasing cooperative comprised of a network of independently owned paint and decorating product retailers. They serve over 280 such member retailers who represent approximately 1,400 storefronts located throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and parts of Europe.

Tower Sealants is a manufacturer of top-quality caulks and sealants. With the strong financial backing of M-D Building Products, Tower Sealants started construction of its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in September of 2005 and opened for business March 1, 2006.

Rette is just as enthusiastic about returning to the Truck Series tour this weekend.

“The morale is really good lately at Rette Jones Racing,” offered Rette. “Everyone’s been working really hard because we want more checkered flags. We’re going to Las Vegas poised to win, but if we can’t – we hope to come out of there with a good finish that will allow us to build our program for the next truck race before the end of the season.

“Spencer is doing a really good job right behind the wheel and I don’t expect anything different on Friday night.”

Following Las Vegas, Rette Jones Racing shifts their attention for the penultimate NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race of the year in a return trip to New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS) for the running of the Apple Barrel 125 on Sat. Sep. 21, 2019.

RJR is co-owned by Canadian entrepreneur and former race car driver Terry Jones.

In 42 career NASCAR K&N Pro Series East starts, Davis has earned two victories (Dominion (Va.) Raceway 2016, Gateway 2019), two poles, achieved 19 top-five and 31 top-10 finishes. He has also 364 laps led in event competition.

Davis also has eight NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series (NGOTS) starts to his credit – four in 2018 driving for Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM), two in 2019 for Rette Jones Racing and one for Niece Motorsports. He earned three top-10 finishes including a career-best of seventh in his series’ debut at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.

The World of Westgate 200 (134 laps | 201 miles) is the 19th of 23 races on the 2019 NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series schedule. Practice begins on Fri., Sept. 13 from 8:05 a.m. – 9:55 a.m. Qualifying is set for later in the day beginning at 2:35 p.m. The 32-truck field will take the green flag shortly after 6:00 p.m. with live coverage on FOX Sports 1 (FS1), the Motor Racing Network (Radio) and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Satellite Radio, Channel 90). All times are local (Pacific).

Gary Klutt on Racing at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park: “This has been my favorite race weekend of the year, since the Truck Series started coming up and running here,” said Klutt. “The trucks have taken a couple of outings for me to really get the hang of, the differences being, radial tires, truck arm suspension, and better aero. These trucks feel quite a bit different than our Pinty’s cars, so I’m anxious to get out for the first practice session and get up to speed. I’m excited to be working with Niece Motorsports and crew chief Kevin Eagle. I think that we have a good shot at this race. I feel that as I mature, I just keep learning this track and how to extract speed from it. I think that really showed this spring here at CTMP.”

Tyler Ankrum, No. 17 May’s Hawaii Toyota Tundra

Tyler Ankrum will take on the 2.5-mile road course of Canadian Tire Motorsports Park this weekend as the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series travels internationally for the second Playoff race of the season. Sunday’s 64 lap race will make the first time that 18-year-old Ankrum has raced on the road course in Bowmanville, Ontario.

Although Ankrum has never been to the track in Canada, he does have limited experience racing on road courses. In the 2018 season, Ankrum started from the Pole position at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. He then went on to earn a top-10 finish that race. Ankrum also has a start at the 2.25-mile track of New Jersey Motorsports Park where he started fourth and finished inside the top-10. In preparation for this weekend’s event, the San Bernardino, Calif. native has taken road course training classes for the experience.

Last week at Bristol Motor Speedway, Ankrum was eliminated from the race early because of an electrical issue. He was forced to settle with a 20th-place finish in what was building up to be a solid top-10 night. The Sunoco Rookie of the Year now sits eighth in the Playoff standings, making the next two races very critical.

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series taking the weekend off, the NGOTS 250 will take place on Sunday, Aug. 25. The green flag will fly at 2:30 p.m., ET with live coverage on FS1.

Ankrum on Canadian Tire: “I really don’t have much road course experience, so I know that this weekend will be somewhat challenging. I think that if I can keep it clean and avoid all the chaos that always happens at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, we will have a solid finish and be in a good position going into Las Vegas. The thing about my DGR-Crosley guys is that they always bring me such great equipment; they coach me and help me learn every lap. We are going to learn as much as possible in Saturday’s two practice session and be ready to go on Sunday.”

Raphael Lessard, No. 54 FRL Express, Inc Toyota Tundra

Raphael Lessard will return to DGR-Crosley for the second time this season as the team travels to Canadian Tire Motorsports Park (CTMP) for the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series 250. With only two entries in the event, Lessard will drive the No. 54 FRL Express Tundra in his first Truck Series race at the 2.5-mile track in Bowmanville, Ontario.

The St. Joseph de Beauce, Quebec native, will be taking on CTMP for the first time in his young career. He has one previous road course race which occurred in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series at Circuit de Trois-Rivieres. Lessard started 15th and finished 7th in his first-career road course race. So far this season, Lessard has four Truck Series starts under his belt; one with DGR-Crosley and three with Kyle Busch Motorsports. In those four starts, the 18-year-old one top-10, and four top-15 finishes. His best finish of ninth-place occurred with DGR-Crosley at Iowa Speedway. He has an average starting position of 10th and an 11.5 place average finish.

The NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series will be broadcast live on FS1 on Sunday, Aug. 25.

Lessard on Canadian Tire: “I’m really looking forward to this weekend. It’s going to be a great race and another opportunity for me to learn. Sunday’s race will be my second road course race. I’ve never raced at MoSport [CTMP] or even watched a race here. I’ll have a completely new race track to learn. I do have one road course race in the Pinty’s Series, and it went way better than what I expected, so hopefully, I can take what I learned there and use it this weekend. My DGR-Crosley truck will be fast. It’s going to be all about me learning every lap, getting better, and getting comfortable with the course.”

    Quote:

“I’m excited to go to Canada this week. It’s my first time racing there, but we’ve gotten some time on the simulator with Chevy and they’ve done a good job of making the simulator translate to the racetrack so I would expect the same for this weekend. I enjoy road racing and I feel like this team has really been getting in a nice groove the last few weeks. It would be awesome to take that momentum and come back with my first win.”

    Quote:

“Road courses are always a lot of fun, but Canadian Tire in particular brings it’s own challenges and the finishes have been wild the last few years. I had a strong run there last year and I’ve been on the simulator a bit so hopefully that will help this weekend. Being locked into the next round of the playoffs takes a lot of stress off these next couple of races. Winning would be great obviously, but we need to go out there and put together a solid finish and try to increase our lead in the championship.”

    Toyota Racing – Tyler Ankrum
NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series Quotes

Bristol, Tenn. (August 15, 2019) – DGR-Crosley driver Tyler Ankrum was made available to media at Bristol Motor Speedway:

TYLER ANKRUM, No. 17 May’s Hawaii Toyota Tundra, DGR-Crosley

What’s it been like working with crew chief Kevin “Bono” Manion?

“Having Bono as a crew chief is awesome because of his knowledge. I love having Bono as a crew chief, especially right now with the championship coming and us being in the Playoffs. He’s won championships before, so he knows what it’s like to have the pressure and he knows – in a way he’s kind of been in situations that we might be heading into. He has all this knowledge and all this experience. He knows how to make the right calls. With us having him have that knowledge, we work better together in that way. We’ve been getting along really well. I love Bono. Bono is an awesome guy who works really hard. He’s set in his ways, which is awesome because – I can appreciate that because he never slouches off. Everything he does is to the pinnacle. He takes a lot of pride in what he does. He wants to win as much as everyone else.”

What’s been the one thing that you’ve had as a main takeaway so far this season?

“Really the main takeaway, just in truck racing in general, is just learning how to race because racing in the trucks on these bigger tracks is so much more different than short track racing, which I’ve been used to. Short track racing, there’s a lot less air involved. There’s a lot less strategy. Really it’s getting from the start of the race to the end of the race. It’s pretty much go all you can and give it everything you’ve got. Here, there’s lots of strategy and there’s lots of thinking that has to get done. Like this past weekend at Michigan, I tried driving up through the field after having a black flag with two laps in. I tried driving through the field by myself and it’s like, well you can’t because it’s Michigan, you’re drafting. I picked up like eight positions on a restart and I’d go try and pass a guy because I thought I could because I’m superman back here, you know, racing with the squirrels and trying to make my way forward and boom, I lost 10 (positions), so you’re right back where you were. Stuff like that, you have to learn patience, which is really hard because these races are so short. It’s not like we’re about to go race 500 miles and we have all this time. Races are relatively short compared to what we’ve usually been doing, especially even this race. I said before you can almost race this whole race and make it on fuel. You don’t have to pit. I mean you should because the tires are just going to be worn out and you’re going to be wagging your tail around. That’s just one of those things that comes with the strategy where it just really comes down to tires. You saw last year with John Hunter Nemechek, I think he skipped three pit stops to stay out front and with stage points meaning everything, I think you’ll see a lot of us Playoff guys maybe just hanging out until the end of the stage, taking four (tires), taking two. It’ll vary. Really, the things I’ve learned the most is how much thinking and patience goes into these races.”

What do you expect tonight in the race?

“Honestly, I just expect what happened last year. I think what the K&N cars racing before us – I don’t think they’ll see the groove work in until really late because the K&N cars, they have no power, so they’re bottom feeders. They won’t hardly ever race in the top groove. Pretty much from the get-go, they’re going to be putting those marbles up on the second and third grooves, which preferably we would like to be at, especially on restarts. It’ll definitely take us a really long time for us to get up top.”

Do you feel like you’re the underdog in the Playoffs because you’re the only rookie?

“I will for sure. I think we’re just needed as the underdog team. I think with me being the rookie and the levels of experience I have, people aren’t expecting us to go far. I think we can go pretty far. I think if we make it through this race with stage points and unscathed from accidents, I think maybe, knock on wood, that hopefully none of us get caught up in a wreck, but if we do, I don’t want it to be me. I would much rather have one of the Playoff cars, especially in Canada. With Canada and then even Talladega onwards, those are two race tracks from here on out that you really don’t want to be caught up in because it’s really hard to dig yourself out of a hole.”

What’s your opinion of this first round in the Playoffs?

“I think this first round is really good because honestly, every single round of the Playoffs will be shaken up in some sort of way. Starting off with a short track and then a road course and then an intermediate track and then in the second round you go from a superspeedway to a short track to an intermediate and then you go to Homestead. I think it’s a really good start here at Bristol because Bristol makes such a big story and brings such a big crowd, I think it’s better than starting at a place like Las Vegas. I think it’s better at ending at a place like Las Vegas because Vegas is so racy. It makes for really good racing. A really fun place to be.”
