NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Press Release

Codie Rohrbaugh – CR7 Motorsports set for Bristol return

BRISTOL, Tenn.: From the high-speeds of Michigan International Speedway to the thunderous applause of the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series (NGOTS) at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway, Codie Rohrbaugh and his CR7 Motorsports invade the Volunteer State eyeing a top-10 finish in Thursday night’s UNOH 200.

Following their eventful 17th place effort at Michigan, Rohrbaugh returns to “Thunder Valley” eager to build on his NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series debut at the 0.533-mile concrete oval, where the Petersburg, West Virginia native earned a solid 16th place finish last August.

“I’ve been amped up about going to Bristol for a couple of months now,” said Rohrbaugh who married longtime girlfriend Brooklyn Swick on Aug. 3.

“Bristol is the site of CR7 Motorsports Truck Series debut last summer and we overcame the pressure of no points to make a competitive field and hung on to a competitive finish.

“We’ve raised the bar though this week. We feel like our team has grown since last summer and I think we’re really on the verge of finishing inside the top-10.”

Armed with the boldness and the experience of crew chief Doug George and team manager Mark Huff, Rohrbaugh says as the team plans to increase their Gander Truck Series presence this fall, they will take gambles if it means contending for race wins.

“We’re not running for a championship, so we can take risks,” added Rohrbaugh. “We don’t need to put ourselves in a position to tear up our truck our hinder those running for the championship, but if we find ourselves in a position to make up some ground with strategy or a move on the track, we’re going to go for it.

“With the addition of Doug earlier this year, I think we’ve shown that we’re coming to the track a lot faster even if we don’t have all the finishes to show for it. Two races ago at Kentucky, we earned our career-best finish as a team with a 14th and with our on-track performance there and at Michigan, I think we can continue to build on that and execute at places like Bristol and Las Vegas coming up.”

When it comes to competing at the “World’s Fastest-Half Mile”, the 25-year-old is comfortable with the track, considering he has additional starts in K&N Pro Series East competition from 2015 through 2016.

“At the end of the day, the atmosphere is electrifying at Bristol,” noted Rohrbaugh. I have a lot of laps there and at the end of the day, I think all that makes a difference. As a team, we’re just looking to continue to build our road and be positive about the future.”

CR7 Motorsports has seven NGOTS starts to their credit with a career-best finish of 14th at Kentucky Speedway (July 2019). A 14th place qualifying effort at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway (May 2019) is the team’s best time trials effort to date.

In 20 career ARCA starts, Rohrbaugh has a best finish of seventh twice at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway (July 2018 and Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway (February 2019). He has qualified a career-best fourth on four different occasions most recently at Kansas Speedway (Oct. 2018).

Marketing partnership(s) opportunities are available for the No. 7 Grant County Mulch Chevrolet and No. 9 Grant County Mulch Chevrolet for the 2019 ARCA Menards Series and NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series seasons and beyond. Interested inquiries are encouraged to contact at tonya@gcmulch.com or 304.257.8783.

Following Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway, CR7 Motorsports plans to return to the Gander Truck Series scene at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway on Sept. 13, 2019.

The UNOH 200 (200 laps | 100.6 miles) is the 17th of 23 races on the 2019 NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series schedule. Practice begins on Thurs., Aug. 15 from 9:05 a.m. – 9:55 a.m., while final practice is set for 11:05 a.m. – 11:55 a.m. Qualifying races are set for later in the day beginning at 4:35 p.m. The 32-truck field will take the green flag shortly after 8:30 p.m. with live coverage on FOX Sports 1 (FS1), the Motor Racing Network (Radio) and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Satellite Radio, Channel 90). All times are local (Eastern).

    – The No. 2 team will utilize chassis No. 310 this week in Bristol. Creed competed with this truck earlier this year at Gateway and Martinsville.

    – Darren Fraley will serve as interim crew chief for Sheldon Creed again this week in Bristol as crew chief Jeff Stankiewicz serves a three-race suspension due to a penalty at Eldora.

    – Creed has scored two consecutive second-place finishes at Eldora and Michigan.

    Quote:

“This team has been on a roll the last few weeks. We’ve had things that haven’t gone our way and we’ve still come out with two second-place finishes so that’s awesome. Hopefully we can carry that momentum into Bristol this week and end the night in victory lane.”

Sam Mayer, No. 21 Manpower U.S. Chevrolet Silverado

    Bristol Stats

    – Mayer has one NASCAR K&N Pro Series East start at Bristol.

    2019 NGOTS Stats

    – No prior NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series starts

    Notes:

    – This will be Mayer’s NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series debut. He won the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race at Bristol in April from the pole, leading all 150 laps.

    – Mayer will do double duty on Thursday at Bristol, competing in both the K&N race and then making his first NGOTS start. Mayer’s K&N crew chief, Mardy Lindley, will do double duty as well with both entries.

    – Mayer will race chassis No. 309, which is a Silverado borrowed from Brett Moffitt’s fleet. This is the same truck Moffitt won with in Iowa in June.

    – Mayer tested a Silverado at Bristol a few weeks ago to prepare for his first start.

    – Manpower U.S. will sponsor Mayer in his three NGOTS starts this season. ManpowerGroup(R), the parent company of Manpower and headquartered in Milwaukee, Wis., is the leading global workforce solutions company which helps organizations transform in a fast-changing world of work by sourcing, assessing, developing and managing talent that enables them to succeed.

    Quote:

“I’ve been working really hard with everyone over at GMS, Chevrolet and Drivers Edge Development to get ready for this race. I have no goals other than to get as much experience as possible. Moving up to the next level does mean a lot to me, and I hope to make the best of the opportunity GMS and Chevy have given me. It’s incredible to have a company like Manpower come on board to sponsor me for my truck races this season. I appreciate everyone’s support to help me get to this level.”

Brett Moffitt, No. 24 Midnight Moon Moonshine Chevrolet Silverado

    Bristol NGOTS Stats

    – Starts: 2, Best start: 8, Best finish: 2

    2019 NGOTS Stats

    Notes:

    – Brett Moffitt has qualified for the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series playoffs for the second time in his career. The reigning champ returns to the playoffs as the number one seed going into Bristol with two victories and 22 playoff points.

    – The No. 24 team will utilize chassis No. 304 this week in Bristol. This is the same truck that Moffitt took to victory lane at Chicagoland in June. Moffitt has led total of 153 laps in the five events he has competed with in this truck this season.

    – Midnight Moon rejoins Moffitt this week in Bristol after partnering at Charlotte earlier in the year. This partnership helps promote Midnight Moon’s introduction of a limited-edition, augmented reality label which literally comes to life to tell the story of Junior Johnson’s moonshine bust and arrest through the “Midnight Moon AR Experience” app, available from the App Store or Google Play.

    Quote:

“Heading into the playoffs in first place is huge. I feel like our team has done a good job all year of just running our own race and getting strong finishes, even when we don’t start off as strong as we would like. We’ll need to continue that at Bristol. Obviously, running up front and winning would be great, but we need to be strong and don’t do anything to take us out of the playoffs early. The field is really competitive and it’s a close race right off the bat.

“It’s great to have Midnight Moon Moonshine back on board with us. They were great to work with at Charlotte earlier in the season and it’s a really cool promotion they’ve got with the limited edition Busted jars and I hope to be sipping some in victory lane.”

CarShield Looks to Make Championship Run with Ross Chastain, Niece Motorsports

CarShield Looks to Make Championship Run with Ross Chastain, Niece Motorsports

STATESVILLE, N.C. (August 13, 2019) – CarShield will rejoin Ross Chastain and the No. 45 Niece Motorsports team for the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series (NGOTS) playoffs, starting this week at Bristol Motor Speedway.

“I’m so pumped to have the folks at CarShield back on board the No. 45 Truck again, especially as we look to make a championship run,” said Chastain. “They brought us good luck at Gateway, and I’m hopeful we can make that magic happen again. It means the world to me to have their support.”

CarShield, who visited victory lane with Chastain and the No. 45 team earlier this year at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway, will again serve as Chastain’s primary sponsor for the final seven races of the season, starting at Bristol Motor Speedway.

“Watching Ross win this season has been great,” said Nick Hamilton, Co-Founder and Principal at CarShield. “Seeing him pull into victory lane with the CarShield truck was the best. Ross knows how to have fun while always competing at the highest level. We do the same thing at CarShield. That’s why we made the decision to become the primary sponsor for the rest of this season. Hopefully, our partnership will help push him to keep smashing those watermelons and win the Championship this season.”

Headquartered in Saint Peters, Mo., CarShield offers vehicle service contracts designed to pick up where automobile owners’ existing warranty drops off and to fill gaps in coverage. CarShield was founded in 2005 by principals Nick Hamilton, Mark Travis, and Rick Brettelle and specializes in shielding its members from the high cost of automobile repairs by offering a wide range of flexible vehicle service plans.

“We are proud and honored to have CarShield join the team again,” said team owner Al Niece. “I think Ross and this team have really shown what they are capable of, and we are excited that CarShield has recognized that potential and wants to help this team chase a championship.”

Chastain earned his first win of the season at Kansas Speedway in May. In June, Chastain changed his points declaration, looking to make the playoffs in the NGOTS.

After spotting the competition eight races, Chastain would have to win a race and enter the top-20 in driver points to be eligible to compete for the championship.

Just two races after changing his points declaration, Chastain found victory lane in the No. 45 CarShield Chevrolet at Gateway. Two races later, Chastain found himself in the top-20 in driver points on the strength of one top-five and two top-10 finishes.

Chastain and team were not satisfied yet, visiting the winner’s circle again at Pocono Raceway after a dominating performance; giving him the most wins of any series regular.

The NGOTS will take the green flag in the UNOH 200 at Bristol Motor Speedway, on Thursday, August 15 at 8:30 p.m. ET ON FS1 and MRN.

Dylan Lupton, No. 15 DGR-Crosley Toyota Tundra
Dylan Lupton will return to the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series this week as DGR-Crosley travels to Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway for the UNOH 200. Lupton will pilot the team’s No. 15 Crosley Brands Tundra in his third Truck Series race this season.
Thursday’s race will be the first time that Lupton has competed on the half-mile track in a Tundra. He does have one previous start at Bristol Motor Speedway which occurred last season in the NASCAR XFINITY Series. Lupton has over 30 career short-track starts across the NASCAR K&N Pro Series, NASCAR XFINITY Series, and Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. He’s picked up two wins on tracks less than 0.5-mile in length in the K&N Pro Series West.
On a part-time schedule with DGR-Crosley, Lupton has raced for the team at Chicagoland (Ill.) Speedway and Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Kentucky so far this season. The Wilton, Calif. native was able to race his way to a top-10 finish in his first race with the team. He then followed that with a top-five finish after driving up from his 20th place starting position.
The UNOH 200 will be broadcast live on FS1 beginning at 8:30 p.m., ET on Thursday, Aug. 15.
Lupton on Bristol: “I can’t wait to get back to the track this week with my DGR-Crosley team. I’ve been eager to get back racing since our top-five finish at Kentucky Speedway last month. I’m excited to go to Bristol and see if we can put ourselves in Victory Lane. I don’t have a lot of experience at Bristol, so I’m not sure what to really expect, especially in a truck, but I know these DGR-Crosley guys are going to bring me a fast truck and I look forward to the opportunity to make some more noise for our team on Thursday night. I’m having a blast in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series right now and can’t thank DGR-Crosley enough for the opportunity.”
Tyler Ankrum, No. 17 May’s Hawaii Toyota Tundra
It’s a quick turn-around for the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series as teams head to Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway on Wednesday for the UNOH 200. Tyler Ankrum and his No. 17 May’s Hawaii team are looking to have a strong run to kick-off the 2019 Playoffs.
While Ankrum is only 18-years-old, he has competed at Bristol Motor Speedway four times in his career. Three of those starts were in a Super Late Model, and the fourth start was in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. Last year, Ankrum competed for DGR-Crosley at Bristol, earning a fourth-place finish.
Ankrum, who most recently won Sunoco Rookie of the Year for the Gander Truck Series, will be making his 12th start for DGR-Crosley this season. Ankrum currently has three top-five finishes among his six top-10 finishes. He is most proud of his first Gander Trucks victory at Kentucky Speedway. Just last week at Michigan International Speedway, Ankrum led three laps before getting collected in a late-race incident causing his day to end early.
Ankrum and his No. 17 team look to carry the positive momentum into Bristol this weekend. You can watch all the action unfold live on FS1 on Thursday, Aug. 15.
Ankrum on Bristol: “Heading into the first Playoff race, I feel pretty good. I have experience at Bristol before in both a Super Late Model and in a K&N car. Each time we’ve ran pretty well there. I’m not too worried about what our performance is going to look like this week. I think we will have a fast truck, DGR-Crosley was pretty good there last year. I want to focus on being consistent and getting the most amount of Playoff points possible and of course, getting the best finish. I think consistency is going to be key in heading into the Playoffs. I think we can make it further than everyone thinks we can. So far, it’s been an awesome year, and I look forward to continuing it that way.”
Natalie Decker, No. 54 N29 Technologies Toyota Tundra
Natalie Decker will head to Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway this Thursday for the UNOH 200. The 200-lap race will mark Decker’s 14th NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series start with DGR-Crosley this season.
The UNOH 200 will mark Decker’s first time at the 0.5-mile track in the Truck Series. However, the Eagle River, Wisc. native does have one start at the speedway under her belt. Earlier this season she made her NASCAR K&N Pro Series East debut for DGR-Crosley at Bristol Motor Speedway. For her first time in a K&N Pro Series Camry, Decker qualified to start the race from the seventh position. She was involved in an incident on lap one resulting her to finish 19th, but the practice time she received from the race will be beneficial as she takes to the track in her Tundra for the first time.
Decker has 13 Gander Trucks starts this season; three of those starts are at speedways less than 1.5-miles. In those three short track starts, she has an average starting position of 21st. Her average finish at these same tracks is 20th-place. Decker will have her regular crew chief Frank Kerr atop the pit box and Cup spotter Kevin Hamlin as her eyes in the sky looking to secure the No. 54 team’s first top-10 finish.
Decker on Bristol: “We went to Bristol earlier in the year with the K&N car and I loved it! I’m excited to get back there and be in a Toyota Tundra. My DGR-Crosley guys work hard to bring the best trucks to the track for me. We had such a good run at Michigan, I hope to continue that momentum into this week.”

This is Hattori Racing Enterprises’ second consecutive victory at MIS.
Toyota has won five of the last six races at MIS and nine of the 16 NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series (NGOTS) races this season.

Hill and DGR-Crosley’s Tyler Ankrum have clinched their spot in the eight-driver NGOTS playoffs. The first race of the first round of playoffs is at Bristol Motor Speedway on Thursday.

    TOYOTA QUOTES

AUSTIN HILL, No. 16 Hino/AISIN Group Toyota Tundra, Hattori Racing Enterprises

    Finishing Position: 1st

How big of a win is this for your team?

“It’s huge. We have had a struggle these last few races. We just keep having issues and just can’t finish these races. These guys just worked their tails off, day and night, just trying to put these trucks together. This is actually a brand-new truck. First time it had seen the race track was yesterday. When we unloaded, we had to work out some bugs. We got it driving really good. I was really happy with the speed of it. Man, this race was crazy. I had to come from the back a few times. I had a speeding penalty one time, and I kind of thought our race was done, buy man we came back through the field. This Toyota Tundra was really good today. I need to thank Hino, AISIN for coming on board, TRD, just everyone that makes it happen.”

Talk us through that final restart.

“Man, I definitely did not want to do a green-white-checkered. I was cutting it kind of close on fuel. I got a really good push out back by the 18 (Harrison Burton) that kind of propelled us and cleared us out front. I just had to start throwing blocks. Luckily, they started racing two and three-wide out the back. They gave us a gap out front and we were able to keep that gap. I thought the 2 (Sheldon Creed) was going to have a shot at it going into three, he had a really big run, but I was able to protect the bottom. Our Toyota Tundra was really fast today.”

Playoffs are kicking off in Bristol. What does that mean for you guys?
“Man, I am ready for it. Especially what we did today. We are still one of the top teams. We are really fast. We just had to get this monkey off our back. It has been bad, so to get it off our back is awesome. Can’t thank TRD enough for all those guys for what they do for me.”

HARRISON BURTON, No. 22 Fields/Sports Force Parks Toyota Tundra, Kyle Busch Motorsports

    Finishing Position: 11th

    Talk about your race.

“It’s kind like our season; it was up and down. We ran really bad at the beginning; we weren’t very fast. Towards the end, we made good adjustments on the truck and we got better. Led a couple laps, and then we lost the lead. The 16 (Austin Hill) got a good run from behind me and took the lead. He was really fast and hard to catch. Everyone did a good job.”

  • Toyota Racing NGOTS Michigan Quotes – Todd Gilliland

Toyota Racing NGOTS Michigan Quotes – Todd Gilliland

    Toyota Racing – Todd Gilliland
NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series (NGOTS)
    Michigan International Speedway – August 9, 2019

Kyle Busch Motorsports driver Todd Gilliland was made available to the media in Michigan:

TODD GILLILAND, No. 4 JBL Toyota Tundra, Kyle Busch Motorsports

How are you mentally going into tomorrow’s race?

“Pretty much the same pressure as I have had all year. We show up to the racetrack every week to win. Along those lines, nothing has really changed. I feel like there is other people that maybe will be driving a little farther over their heads, probably me included at some points. It’s the last chance. That part is a little bit tough, but I feel like my team has brought better and faster equipment every week to the racetrack, and this is no different. I’m really excited to get out there.”

How would you sum up the first 15 races? Why are you in the position that you are in right now?

“That’s the main thing. Why does it come down to this one race? It shouldn’t. We’ve had a lot of opportunities. I think just a lot of up and downs. Communication problems. I feel like we’ve run a lot better after we’ve made some changes with the crew chief. It’s made me think about it. Marcus (Richmond) is still working at KBM (Kyle Busch Motorsports). I still talk to him, probably now more than we did before. We communicate better now. I feel like after that switch, it made everyone a little better. We just pushed ourselves to the next level. I think since then we’ve been more competitive. To get to that next level that we are competing week in and week out for a win like we should be, I don’t really know. I think when you get there, you will realize what it took and how to stay there. But it’s just about getting there that first time.”

Top-five here a year ago. What is the big takeaway that you can bring to this race?
“You learn a lot here. People say it’s going to be wide open, but once you get into the race, it’s a lot more technical than that. It’s about timing your runs. I would get up beside people on exit and then you don’t go anywhere, just the people behind you catch you and blow by you. I think it’s all about the places you pass, the times you slow down and the times you don’t. Sometimes it’s a little smarter at a certain point to slow down and stay in line. I think I could have done a better job of that last year instead of getting on the bottom and just losing a ton of spots. Overall, just a lot of experience coming back here to Michigan. We ran really good, led some laps, and I think we can contend this weekend.”

They have laid the traction compound down this weekend. What are your thoughts on that?
“It’s pretty far up the racetrack. I don’t know if the trucks, or even the Cup cars, will get up there. Last year, in the race, if you got right behind someone, you’d slide up there anyway. I feel like in the Truck race you will see someone slip up and get up there on accident. Who knows? Maybe just enough people do that it will get enough heat in it and that stuffs always got more grip. It’s more dominate in the race than you think it will be. We will have to see.”

Does this year make a good case for expanding the Truck Series playoff field?

“I don’t know. It’s kind of weird to see only two guys are in on points. I think Grant Enfinger is the regular season champion, so he’d get in anyway and then just (Matt) Crafton. That’s kind of crazy to think about. I think the Truck fields are tough competition. Even Austin Hill, who won earlier this year, has had some bad luck. He’s been out front but he still only has that one win from early on in the season. Like you said, it’s tough. But at the same time if you could be one of those eight, its less people to get out. It can go both ways.”

Bayley Currey on Racing at Michigan: “I’m really looking forward to this weekend with this Niece Motorsports team,” said Currey. “We had such a strong truck in Pocono, but bad luck on a restart ended our day. I can’t wait to get back on track, I know our truck will be fast. I’m thankful to Al Niece for the opportunity.”

Currey at Michigan: Saturday’s race at Michigan International Speedway marks Currey’s second start at the track in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series. His previous start came in 2018.

Currey has one NASCAR XFINITY Series start at Michigan International Speedway, coming earlier this season.

About Currey: Currey is a 22-year-old mechanical engineering student, at the University of North Carolina Charlotte. He transferred from Texas State University to UNCC in 2018, to pursue his lifelong dream of driving race cars.

Currey began racing go Karts when he was only seven years old. Currey’s father always stressed the importance of being able to work on his own race cars. Currey feels being a big part of the maintenance and setup of the race cars gives him a better understanding of the mechanics, which helps him on the track.

While moving through the ranks, Currey amassed over 165 wins and 18 championships.
