  • Garrett Smithley to pull triple duty at Texas Motor Speedway

Garrett Smithley to pull triple duty at Texas Motor Speedway

FORT WORTH, Tex. – Chad Finley Racing (CFR) announced today that NASCAR veteran driver Garrett Smithley will drive the team’s No. 42 Chevrolet Silverado in Friday night’s Vankor 350k at Texas Motor Speedway (TMS).

CFR mainstay driver Robby Lyons was scheduled to drive the team’s truck in the fifth NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series (NGOTS) race of the season, but in an effort to give back, Lyons has agreed to allow Smithley make some of his own history.

Lyons wanted to see Smithley, a close friend have the opportunity to pull off a tripleheader for the first time in his NASCAR career.

The friendship between Smithley and Lyons dials back to nearly a decade when Smithley was instrumental in helping Lyons get established as a professional race car driver.

“Garrett has done so much for me and this was a way of giving back to him and showing how much, I appreciate the sacrifices he made for me,” offered Robby Lyons.

“I know he will do a great job and I’ll be at Texas this weekend supporting the team and Garrett and look forward to seeing him bring home a good finish on Friday night.”

In addition to Chad Finley Racing, Smithley will drive the No. 0 JD Motorsports with Gary Keller Chevrolet Camaro in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and pilot the No. 77 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 on Sunday, March 31st.

“It will be a memorable weekend for me for sure,” added Smithley. “There are so many people that have allowed me the chance to make my own piece of history this weekend at Texas and it’s something I’ll never forget.”

CFR housed in Mooresville, N.C.-had the intentions to run the full NGTOS schedule this season – but two early setbacks at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway and Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway respectively, plus the team’s hauler being damaged upon exit of the Atlanta grounds unexpectedly put the team behind.

With a few weeks off and determination from the crew, the team is recharged and ready to return to battle.

“Bob I (Lyons) and I are very proud of our Chad Finley Racing team,” said CFR owner Jeff Finley.

“We had some tough luck to start 2019, but we have worked very hard to hit the reset button and feel like we can go to Texas this weekend with Garrett and show everyone what we’re capable of.

“From Texas, we’ll take the spring break and work hard to make sure we’re in a strong position come Dover in May.”

Smithley, a native of Ligonier, Pa. will make his first Truck Series appearance since Kentucky Speedway in July 2016 and eye his first top-10 in eight career starts.

His effort on Friday night will be supported by Grand Prairie, Tex.-based Trophy Tractor.

Trophy Tractor offers a cost-effective alternative to the purchase and rental of new equipment with quality low hour used equipment. We specialize in the sale and rental of haul trucks, loaders, dozers, scrapers, excavators, compactors, graders and water equipment.

“I really appreciate this honor to drive for Chad Finley Racing and can’t thank Robby (Lyons), Bob (Lyons) and Jeff (Finley) enough for this opportunity with Trophy Tractor,” sounded Smithley. “I’m excited to go to Texas this weekend and help the team build on their program and have an opportunity to contend for a strong finish.

“Texas is a great race track and despite its still relatively new surface, I think it holds the opportunity to showcase a strong race for the fans and competitors. It sure would be great to kick off the weekend with a top-10 finish.”

Motorsports veteran Bruce Cook will continue to lead the operation as crew chief for the team’s third Truck Series race of 2019.

The Vankor 350k (147 laps| 220.5 miles) is the fifth of 23 NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series races on the 2019 schedule. MOORESVILLE, N.C. (March 27, 2019) – The fifth race of the 2019 NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series race will take place this weekend on the mile-and-a-half track of Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas. DGR-Crosley will have two entries in the Vankor 350: the No. 17 May’s Hawaii Toyota Tundra for Tyler Ankrum and the No. 54 Ceco Building Systems Tundra for NASCAR Next alumni Anthony Alfredo.

For newly turned 18-year-old Ankrum, Friday’s 147 lap race will mark his first start at a speedway 1.5-miles in length. His three previous Truck Series starts all occurred at tracks one mile or less, with his best finish of sixth-placing coming last fall at ISM Raceway in Phoenix, Ariz. In preparation for Friday’s race in Texas, Ankrum and his No. 17 May’s Hawaii team recently tested at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway. Ankrum was able to get comfortable behind the wheel and was laying down impressive lap times by the end of the test session. After missing the first three races of the season due to his age, Ankrum currently sits 36th in driver point standings. He will be paired with Crew Chief Kevin “Bono” Manion and veteran spotter David Keith for the remainder of the 2019 season.

Alfredo will return to the No. 54 Tundra this weekend as he takes on his third Gander Outdoors Truck Series start of the season. Similar to his teammate, Alfredo will also be visiting the 1.5-mile track in Fort Worth, Texas for the first time. His two previous starts with DGR-Crosley this season came at Atlanta and Las Vegas, both 1.5-mile tracks, where he collected 17th and 18th-place finishes respectively. Alfredo also participated in a team test at Charlotte Motor Speedway, where he was able to learn more about the characteristics of 1.5-mile race tracks and get some laps under his belt before heading to The Lone Star State. Alfredo is slated to run 13 races for DGR-Crosley with support from Ceco Building Systems, Friends of Jaclyn Foundation and Oxford Energy Group. Aflredo will work with his regular crew chief Chris Lawson and Cup spotter Kevin Hamlin this weekend in Texas.

The Vankor 350 at Texas Motor Speedway will be broadcast live on FS1 beginning at 9:00 p.m., ET.
    ______________________________________________________________________

Ankrum on Texas: “”I’m really looking forward to my first speedway race this
weekend. We are moving on from Martinsville and shifting our focus to Texas now. I’m going into the weekend knowing that I have a lot to learn, but DGR-Crosley ran really good there in the past, so I’m looking forward to working with Bono [crew chief] and David[Gilliland]. The guys have good notes from last year to work with. I’ve been spending some time on the sim and watching film with David to help prepare. We tested at Charlotte a couple of weeks ago, and even though the tracks are different, it really helped me get comfortable in my Tundra and understand what to expect at these mile-and-a-half tracks. We were able to post some great speeds by the end of the test, so hopefully, that speed will translate to Texas.”

Alfredo on Texas: “I’m excited to head to Texas Motor Speedway this
weekend, especially because we had a successful test at Charlotte Motor Speedway recently. Even though I haven’t been in the truck in a couple of weeks, I’m confident heading into the event because of how our first two outings at Atlanta and Vegas went. We have a lot of positive momentum going that we will keep building on. The team and I have built a lot of confidence in each other as well as our race Trucks. I’m looking forward to having a successful run at Texas. I’m thankful for my family, marketing partners and supporters who make all this possible for me.”

FORT WORTH, Tex. – The start of the 2019 NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series (NGOTS) season for CR7 Motorsports and Codie Rohrbaugh (@RohrbaughRacing) hasn’t gone exactly as planned, but the team heads to Texas Motor Speedway (TMS) determined to hit the reset button.

Armed with new crew chief Doug George and the leadership of team manager Mark Huff, the former NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (NKNPSE) competitor returns to the Lone Star state seeking his first career top-10 finish.

And with an emphasis put towards the team’s mile-and-a-half program, Rohrbaugh hopes to deliver a strong effort in his No. 9 Grant County Mulch Chevrolet Silverado and get his year back on track.

“We head to Texas looking to turn our season around,” said Rohrbaugh. “We’ve had some hardship at Daytona and Martinsville, but the determination in our team is resilient.

“I feel very confident in the truck we’re bringing to the track this weekend and know that a good finish Friday night could give us a much-needed boost.”

Texas Motor Speedway was the last race for Rohrbaugh during the 2018 NGOTS season and while the team started deep in the field in 26th, the team made great strides during the race and finished a respectable 17th.

“I’m hoping what I learned at Texas last year will be a benefit to us this weekend,” added Rohrbaugh. “I know Doug (George) has made some suggestions for our truck and I’m excited to see how that will unfold. The biggest factor for us this week is to make sure we can keep up with the handling of our No. 9 Grant County Mulch Chevrolet since we’ll practice and qualify during the day but race at night.

“We’ll be confident and focused and look for a memorable night in Texas. They say everything is big in Texas.”

Skipping the season-finale at Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway last November to focus on the 2019 season, Rohrbaugh hopes the team’s decision to forgo the season finale will pay off on March 29th.

“The mile-and-a-half tracks will make the bread and butter of our season and we wanted to put a lot of time and effort into our program to make sure we’re as competitive as possible,” added Rohrbaugh.

“While things didn’t go our way at Daytona and Martinsville, we know where we need to improve with those trucks and feel like can show everyone what our CR7 Motorsports team is capable of on Friday night.”

Following Texas, CR7 Motorsports will return to the ARCA Menards Series tour at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway on Apr. 26 before returning to the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series in May at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway.

In 19 career ARCA starts, Rohrbaugh has a best finish of seventh twice at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway (July 2018 and Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway (February 2019). He has qualified a career-best fourth on four different occasions including at Kansas Speedway (Oct. 2018).

Marketing partnership(s) opportunities are available for the No. 7 Grant County Mulch Chevrolet and No. 9 Grant County Mulch Chevrolet for the 2019 ARCA Menards Series and NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series seasons and beyond. • Spencer Davis and Rette Jones Racing poised for Martinsville run

Spencer Davis and Rette Jones Racing poised for Martinsville run

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – Poised to make their first NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series (NGOTS) start of the season, Spencer Davis and Rette Jones Racing (RJR) head to Martinsville (Va.) Speedway focused and determined for Saturday afternoon’s Martinsville 250.

Last month, Davis and RJR attempted to make the season-opening race at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, but a series of obstacles hindered the Mooresville, N.C-based team from making the starting grid.

Excuses aside, failure is not an option for the combination in the fourth Truck Series race of the season and the team feels well prepared to do battle at the historic Virginia short track.

Davis’s efforts for Martinsville will be supported by ALLPRO in the No. 11 Ford F-150.

ALLPRO Corporation is a business-to-business purchasing cooperative comprised of a network of independently owned paint and decorating product retailers. They serve over 280 such member retailers who represent approximately 1,400 storefronts located throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and parts of Europe.

“Can’t thank ALLPRO enough for their continuing support,” added Davis. “We started off the year with a top-10 finish for them in NASCAR K&N competition at New Smyrna and I’d think realistically if we can put ourselves in a good position during Stage 3 – we can come out of Martinsville with a boost of confidence and an opportunity to prove that we belong here.

“I know my crew chief and owner Mark (Rette) is giving us everything we can to get to the job done and in the race, I’m going to do my job to have a smart race so we can have a great finish.”

With 39 trucks pre-entered for Saturday afternoon’s race, Rette knows it’s going to be another race full of fast trucks and talented drivers – but he knows that Davis possesses the same capabilities despite his inexperience.

“We’re coming to Martinsville this weekend and holding nothing back,” added Rette. “Spencer is a gifted short track racer with tons of talent and has a knack for places like Martinsville. We’ve been working hard on our No. 11 ALLPRO Ford and know if the cards fall our way, we can have a satisfying finish.”

For Martinsville, Rette Jones Racing is also thrilled to welcome Priestly Demolition Inc. (PDI) who will serve as a major associate partner in the 250-lap slugfest Saturday afternoon.

PDI is a family owned and operated and is one of the largest and most trusted demolition contractors in Canada. They have the expertise and resources to handle any project while providing the personalized service of a small organization. Their highly trained team of professionals and top-of-the-line fleet equipment will help prepare you to build for a better future.

In addition to ALLPRO and Priestly Demolition Inc. serving as the title marketing partners for Martinsville, Rette Jones Racing also welcomes Horton Ave. Materials, Jones Group Demolition and Abatement, Ford Performance, JRI Shocks, Huntilar Corp. and Goodridge Fluid Transfer Systems as associate marketing partners for Saturday afternoon’s anticipated thriller.

RJR is co-owned by Canadian entrepreneur and former race car driver Terry Jones.

In 33 career NASCAR K&N Pro Series East starts, Davis has earned one victory (Dominion (Va.) Raceway 2016), two poles, achieved 14 top-five and 23 top-10 finishes. He has also 224 laps led in event competition.

Davis, 20, also has five NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series (NGOTS) starts to his credit – all in 2018 driving for Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM). He earned two top-10 finishes including a career-best of seventh in his series’ debut at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.

The Martinsville 250 (250 laps| 131.5 miles) is the fourth of 23 NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series races on the 2019 schedule. Practice begins on Fri., Mar. 22 from 1:05 p.m. – 1:55 p.m. A final practice session is set for 3:05 p.m. – 3:55 p.m. Qualifying is set for race day, Sat., Mar. 23 beginning at 10:40 a.m. The 32-truck field will take the green flag shortly after 2:00 p.m. with live coverage on FOX, the Motor Racing Network (Radio) and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Satellite Radio, Channel 90).
