Bayley Currey on Friday’s Race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway: “I made too aggressive of a move too early,” said Currey. “I thought it would work. We were rolling forward from the jump and made that move and put myself in a bad spot. We lost the air on the right side, spun around, and hit the wall. From there, I had to maintain all night being three laps down. I’m really Proud of Niece for bringing me a great truck. I hate the fact I ruined the night, but I will learn from it, come back, and be stronger for Bristol.

Race Recap: Currey qualified the No. 41 Niece Chevrolet in 17th-place to start Friday night’s race. Even with a mid-pack starting spot, Currey felt confident about the speed in his truck. Unfortunately, an early accident caused severe damage to the back of the No. 41 truck, forcing Currey down pit road for repairs. Currey would finish the night in 28th-place.

THREE TUNDRAS IN THE TOP-FIVE AT VEGAS
Corey Heim, Taylor Gray continue strong start to the season

LAS VEGAS (March 1, 2024) – Corey Heim added to the stellar early part of the season with his third consecutive podium finish to begin the 2024 racing year at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Friday evening. Heim, who finished second in Daytona and third at Atlanta, brought home his Tundra in third position, once again, to lead three TRICON Garage Toyotas in the top-five. The Toyota Development Driver has now finished inside the top-five in eight of the last nine races, and in the top 10 in 24 of his last 27 Truck Series starts.

Taylor Gray had a strong run all night and delivered his second straight fourth-place finish. The 18-year-old has now earned consecutive top-five finishes for the second time in his career. Former Truck Series champion Christopher Bell made his first Truck Series start and battled back from an early pit road penalty to join Heim and Gray inside the top-five.

    TOYOTA QUOTES

COREY HEIM, No. 11 Safelite Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, TRICON Garage

    Finishing Position: 3rd

A strong night overall, what needed to change there at the end for you?

“Yeah, there was just a bunch we could’ve cleaned up overall, including myself. I was slow coming out (of the pits) on the green flag cycle, and when I came out, I was racing the 18 (Tyler Ankrum) for three or four laps, and he slowed us down a bunch. But, huge congratulations to Rajah (Caruth). He earned every bit of that tonight. He drove his butt off and was really clean all night, put himself in position and won the race. So, big congrats to Rajah. With our TRICON Garage camp, I think we just got to clean it up a bit overall, including myself. I made some mistakes tonight. But, we put ourselves in a good position. Another top three for us, just got to close it out. Huge thanks to Toyota Racing and Safelite.”

What was the deciding factor in tonight’s race?

“I think there were a lot of variables. I made some mistakes on the cycle there. I could have executed a lot better there on pit road, and when I got back out there, I was messing with the 18 (Tyler Ankrum) too much. Just want to say a huge congratulations to Rajah (Caruth). He’s the first guy to come and congratulate you when you win, and he’s such a humble dude. Congrats to Rajah, and a huge thank you to TRICON Garage and Toyota Racing for everything they do. We had a rocketship tonight, and I feel like if we executed as a whole team, including me, I feel like we would have been in victory lane tonight. It happens, and we will use it as motivation for the team. Huge thank you to them, Toyota and Safelite.”

TAYLOR GRAY, No. 17 Mobil 1 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, TRICON Garage

    Finishing Position: 4th

What are the emotions that you are feeling?

“It just sucks. We came out two seconds, or I don’t know what the exact number is, in the lead and it just sucks. I can’t thank everyone at TRICON Garage for bringing me a really good Mobil 1 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. I can’t hang my head too bad. We ran in the top-five and had a pretty good points day. Gotta keep working hard, and we will go get them in Bristol.”

CHRISTOPHER BELL, No. 1 Mobil 1 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, TRICON Garage

    Finishing Position: 5th

What were your biggest takeaways from the race?

“Just that this Mobil 1 Tundra was super, super fast. The guys did a really good job making me comfortable in it. At the beginning of practice, I was extremely uncomfortable, but by the end of the race, and really all race long, I felt really good. It felt like I had what I needed to win, and we didn’t win.”

How badly did you want a caution there at the end?

“I mean, I did want a yellow as I knew that’d be my only shot at winning. But at the same time, whenever the yellow comes out at these Truck races, you know how that goes. It was nice getting a green flag run in, and it was cool to see the cream rise to the top. Awesome for Rajah (Caruth) to get his first Truck win. Happy and proud to drive for TRICON Garage. The Mobil 1 Tundra was everything I needed from it. We didn’t win today, but we’ll try again some other time.”

    • The Tyson Foods history with North Wilkesboro Speedway began when the company sponsored a NASCAR Cup Series race, the Tyson® Holly Farms 400, from 1990-96, and continued with sponsorship of the 2023 Tyson 250 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series race; North Wilkesboro’s Tyson Brand manual leaderboard will also return this year
    • Tyson Foods remains actively involved in the Wilkes County community, employing approximately 2,200 team members in the area with nearby operations in Monroe, North Carolina and Danville, Virginia

Last year, Tyson Foods invested $300 million in an innovative, fully-cooked food production facility in Danville, Virginia, which created nearly 400 jobs in the area.

“We’re thrilled for Wright Brand to serve as this year’s entitlement sponsor of the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series at North Wilkesboro Speedway, paying homage to Tyson Foods’ storied history with the beloved track,” said Brock White, vice president, Tyson Foods. “As the #1 thick-cut bacon brand, we take pride in helping to energize and bring families together across America. We look forward to lending a hand in powering some of the best racing talent as they compete on this iconic track.”

The return of the timeless Tyson Brand red-and-yellow manual leaderboard was met with rave reviews last year. The leaderboard will return this May again outside Turn 3.

    • The 38-year-old driver opened his 2024 CRAFTSMAN Truck Series campaign last weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway by picking up his series-record extending 65th career victory in his Spire Motorsports debut. It was his first NCTS victory for a team other than his own since Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) originated in 2010.
    • KBM collected a series’ record 100 wins, seven owner’s championships and two driver’s championships (Erik Jones 2015 and Christopher Bell 2017), before selling its assets to Spire Motorsports at the end of the 2023 season.
    • Busch will get behind the wheel of the No. 7 Chevrolet for three additional races in 2024: Bristol Motor Speedway (3/16), Texas Motor Speedway (4/12) and Darlington Raceway (5/10).
    • Group 1001 will serve as the primary sponsor on Busch’s Chevy this weekend. Group 1001 is a collective that empowers companies to create positive growth. Our insurance and annuities are easy to understand and accessible to all. Our online investing platform gives individuals control over their savings. It comprises the following brands: Delaware Life, Gainbridge®, Clear Spring Health, Clear Spring Property and Casualty Group, Clear Spring Life and Annuity Company, and RVI Group.
    • In addition to being the winningest driver in NCTS history, Busch also leads the series all-time with an average finish of 6.4 and ranks second in laps led (7,820).
    • “Rowdy” has won 38 percent (65/171) of the Truck Series races he has entered going into the 2024 season and has finished first or second in 57.3 percent (98/171). Over his last 32 NCTS starts, he has posted an average finish of 3.03, while registering 17 wins and nine runner-up finishes.
    • With his win at Atlanta, he extended his series-best streak of winning at least one race to 12 consecutive seasons (2013-2024).
    • Busch will be pulling double duty this weekend, as he heads into his second season behind the wheel of the No. 8 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 in the NASCAR Cup Series.
    • The No. 7 Silverado, which competed in 11 NCTS events in 2023, graduated to a full time-effort in 2024 with multiple drivers competing for an owner’s championship. Veteran crew chief Brian Pattie leads the team. Details regarding the rest of the No. 7 team’s driver lineup are forthcoming.
    • All three of Spire’s NCTS wins have been registered by the No. 7 team. In addition to Busch’s win last weekend, William Byron collected the organization’s first-ever Truck Series win at Martinsville Speedway in April of 2022 and Kyle Larson was victorious last May at North Wilkesboro Speedway.

    Kyle Busch Quotes
Coming off a win last weekend at Atlanta, what’s your outlook heading into Friday night’s race at Las Vegas?
“It’s always cool to be able to run in multiple series going back to my hometown track and having multiple shots to get to Victory Lane. Last year at KBM, the Las Vegas race was probably the best truck, handling-wise, that we had all year, so I’m confident that (Brian) Pattie and my team will be unloading another really fast Group 1001 Chevy Silverado Friday night. It’ll be a brand-new truck, so I’m sure after having a year of being in the Truck Series under his belt he has observed and learned a lot that he’s put into making this newest piece even faster than what we had last year. Obviously, my goal every year in the Truck Series is to go five-for-five with the races that I can run. You can’t be perfect if you don’t win the first one, so we’ve got that one under our belts, now it’s on to the next one,”

Rajah Caruth – Driver, No. 71 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado

    • Rajah Caruth will make his second NCTS start at LVMS in Friday’s Victoria’s Voice Foundation 200 where HENDRICKCARS.COM will be featured as the No. 71 team’s primary sponsor for the third consecutive week.
    • HENDRICKCARS.COM has extended its partnership of Caruth and Spire Motorsports’ No. 71 NCTS team to include the entire calendar of races on the 2024 schedule.
    • HENDRICKCARS.COM is the online home for everything Hendrick Automotive Group. Visitors can shop thousands of new or pre-owned vehicles, locate centers for service and collision repair, receive a value to sell or trade their car, chat online with customer service, discover career opportunities, learn more about vehicle protections programs, and explore how the company gives back to the community.
    • The Washington D.C. native opened the season with a third-place finish at Daytona International Speedway and backed it up with an eighth-place showing last weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
    • Caruth will be answering questions about his season in the LVMS Media Center Friday, March 1, at 1 p.m. local time.
    • Race fans can meet the 21-year-old on Friday at 3:30 p.m. while he signs autographs in the LVMS neon garage.
    • The rising star has one prior NCTS start and three NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at the 1.5-mile Las Vegas oval and looks to better his venue-best 20th-place effort in Friday night’s 200-miler.

    Rajah Caruth Quotes
A top five and a top 10 to start the year. How do you keep the momentum going into Las Vegas?
“I don’t think we will do anything different, necessarily. I think we’ve had a solid start and we’ve got good chemistry flowing so we won’t change any of the ingredients. We’ll just adjust the process to a different racetrack but otherwise we keep doing the same things the same way and adjust accordingly. So, there’s no reason why we can’t go to Vegas and do a little bit better than what we’ve done so far this year.”
You mentioned how it’s a different racetrack, and you’ve had two superspeedways to begin the year. How do you feel heading into Vegas with a different track setup?
“I feel prepared. I know there’s a lot of things out of my control but honestly, I’m relieved to get out of two of the wildcard races so far with having a solid amount of points and being in a good position. Going into Vegas, the Spire Motorsports equipment is really good. You’ll see it on the racetrack this weekend.”
As the season progresses, are there any upcoming tracks that you’re particularly excited about or anticipate will be especially challenging?
“I think each one probably for different reasons. I think about the tracks where I had speed last year and then I think about the tracks where I needed to be a little bit better. Overall, I’m just excited to go racing with my team every week. I know we’re going to elevate each other.”

Chase Purdy – Driver, No.77 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado

    • Chase Purdy will pilot Spire Motorsports’ No. 77 Bama Buggies Chevrolet Silverado in Saturday’s NCTS Victoria’s Voice Foundation 200.
    • Purdy comes into Round 3 of the 2024 NCTS campaign 21st in points.
    • In five NCTS starts at LVMS, Purdy has earned an average starting position of 15.6 and a 17th-place average finish. The Meridian, Miss., driver has completed a total of 667 of 670 laps (99.6 percent) contested over that stretch.
    • Purdy started third and finished eighth in last season’s Victoria’s Voice Foundation 200.
    • Last weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Purdy started ninth, raced inside the top-10 for most of the event, but ultimately came home 15th after battling an ill-handling Chevrolet Silverado in the late stages of the race.
    • Purdy’s crew chief Jason Trinchere is looking to capitalize on his previous NASCAR Xfinity Series success at LVMS. In six previous Xfinity Series races, leading the effort for Kaulig Racing, Trinchere has called one win and six top-10 finishes with four different drivers. The Penn State University graduate led A.J. Allmendinger to the checkered flag in the 2021 Alsco Uniforms 300.

    Chase Purdy Quotes
Las Vegas Motor Speedway presents a very different style of racing than Daytona and Atlanta. How do you prepare differently for a more traditional intermediate track?
“Going to Vegas is going to be a test for everyone. It’s the first non-speedway track, so I’m excited to get there and see how everything plays out. I love this track and have run well there in the past, so hopefully we can have a solid showing on Friday night.”
You’ve run well during the races but haven’t had the finishes to show it. How do you stay confident knowing that you can run well?
“I think the biggest thing is focusing on what I can control. I know that I have the ability, tools, and the right people around me. I will just stay working at it, doing the best I can. The stars will align for our team soon if we keep putting in the work.”
How do you rate your Atlanta race?
“I’d say my race at Atlanta was eventful. We started the weekend on a positive note with our qualifying effort, but we struggled during the race. My team really worked hard to fix the balance, so we’ll take the positives and use those to our advantage in Las Vegas.”

From the Top of the Box

Brian Pattie – Crew Chief, No. 7 Chevrolet Silverado

    • Brian Pattie comes to Spire Motorsports from Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM), where he earned two victories last year, both with team owner-driver Kyle Busch. The duo started off the 2024 campaign with a victory at Atlanta last weekend.

    • Notable accomplishments include Daytona 500 and Brickyard 400 wins with both Ganassi Racing and Penske Racing. He was a key member of the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series Championship team with driver Joey Logano.
    • He comes to Spire Motorsports from Kaulig Racing where he began as an engineer before being promoted to crew chief in 2021, ultimately serving in that capacity for all three of the organization’s NXS teams.

Matt Mills on Friday’s Race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway: “We’ve started the year with two really fast J.F. Electric/Utilitra Silverados, so I’m excited to get back to the track this week,” said Mills. “We don’t have the finishes yet to show that speed, but we are looking to turn our luck around this weekend. I really like racing at Las Vegas and have a lot of laps on this track in the Truck Series and Xfinity Series. We’re going to do our best to run a clean race and put our truck in contention at the end.”

By The Numbers: Friday’s race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway marks Mills’ fourth NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series start at the track. His best finish of 15th came in 2022.

Mills also has nine NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at the 1.5-mile track.

On the Truck: Mills’ No. 42 Chevrolet Silverado will race with support from longtime partners J.F. Electric and Utilitra.

Public Appearances: Mills will participate in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series autograph session on Friday, March 1 at 3:30 pm, located in the Neon Garage.

Recapping the Last Race: With no practice before qualifying Matt Mills and the No. 42 J.F. Electric/Utilitra team turned the first laps of the weekend during qualifying on Friday. With trucks impounded after qualifying, the team opted for a setup that would race well, ending up with a 21st-place starting spot. Mills and team showed speed in the race, battling to the front of the pack by the beginning of the final stage. A pit road penalty late in the race forced the No. 42 to restart at the tail end of the field. Contact with the wall ultimately left the team with a 27th-place finish.

Mills on Last Race at Atlanta Motor Speedway: “We knew our J.F. Electric/Utilitra Chevrolet was fast and am looking forward to Vegas,” said Mills. “Everything was going well. We were trying to have a smart race and that’s what we did in the first two stages. In the final stage we got to lead a few laps. Ultimately, we had to serve a pit road penalty and from there I made a mistake trying to get back to the front when I shouldn’t have pushed for a position.”

With varying pit strategies playing out in the second stage, Currey once again earned stage points before entering the final stage. As the laps wound down, Currey was battling for position in the top-five before damage to the No. 41 ended his day.

Currey on Last Race at Atlanta Motor Speedway: “We had another really, really good truck this weekend,” said Currey. “Our AutoVentive/DealBadger Chevrolet, I think, was a race winning truck. It was an unfortunate end to our day, but I’m looking forward to Vegas. We brought two fast trucks to both Daytona, and Atlanta and hope we can get it done next week.”

HendrickCars.com Extends Partnership with Rajah Caruth, Spire Motorsports for Full NCTS Season

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (February 28, 2024) – HENDRICKCARS.COM has extended its partnership of driver Rajah Caruth and Spire Motorsports’ No. 71 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series (NCTS) team to include the entire calendar of races on the 2024 schedule.

It was previously announced HENDRICKCARS.COM would serve as Caruth’s primary sponsor for 10 races this year. The 21-year-old Washington D.C. native opened the season with a third-place finish at Daytona International Speedway and backed it up with an eighth-place showing last weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

“Rajah has had a tremendous start to 2024,” said Gary Davis, executive vice president, Hendrick Automotive Group. “When you combine his on-track potential, how he represents himself and HENDRICKCARS.COM, his impressive social media presence, and the incredible fan support he receives, we couldn’t pass on supporting him for the entire season.”

Visitors can shop thousands of new or pre-owned vehicles, locate centers for service and collision repair, receive a value to sell or trade their car, chat online with customer service, discover career opportunities, learn more about vehicle protection programs, and explore how the company gives back to the community.

“It’s pretty special to have HENDRICKCARS.COM on my chest,” said Caruth. “I think about Phoenix last year when I drove the Xfinity car for Hendrick Motorsports that, within itself, was an incredible moment. Knowing that HENDRICKCARS.COM has extended their relationship with Spire Motorsports and my No. 71 team kind of leaves me speechless. I’m super-grateful because they don’t do that for just anyone. For me to be affiliated with that group and have their support is an honor. I’m excited to get on with the rest of the season. We’ve gotten off to a good start and I think the race in Las Vegas on Friday night is going to show our potential for the rest of the season.”

Caruth is currently fifth in the NCTS championship point standings and heads into Las Vegas Motor Speedway with an impressive 5.5 finishing average to open his 2024 NCTS campaign. Caruth has one prior NCTS start and three NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at the 1.5-mile Las Vegas oval and looks to better his venue-best 20th-place effort in Friday night’s 200-miler.

“After a strong start to the season, Rajah Caruth and the No 71 team have a lot of positive momentum heading into Las Vegas,” said Spire Motorsports president Doug Duchardt. “This is great news and we’re really proud HENDRICKCARS.COM has decided to extend its support to fill out the entire season. Rajah is one NASCAR’s brightest young driving talents he’s been very impressive in the first two races of 2024. He has tremendous potential, and we expect to see him racing for wins on a regular basis. We’re confident we’ll see Rajah and the HENDRICKCARS.COM Chevrolet Silverado in Victory Lane before long.”

The Victoria’s Voice 200 from Las Vegas Motor Speedway will be televised live on FS1 Friday, March 1, beginning at 9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The third of 23 NCTS races on the 2024 schedule will be broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90.
