Currey on Thursday’s Race at Bristol: “I’m proud of the way this team rebounded tonight,” said Bayley Currey. “Track position was so important because of how hard it was to pass, so starting at the rear of the field definitely left our work cut out for us. This whole Unishippers team never gave up and fought all race long. I think we had a better truck than 13th-place, but I’m proud of everyone’s effort.”

Race Recap: Curry and the No. 41 Unishippers team were forced to start shotgun on the field after a brake issue in practice forced the team to the garage for repairs. Unable to turn a qualifying lap due to the ongoing repairs, Currey started the 200-lap race at Bristol Motor Speedway in 36th-place. On a night where passing was tough and track position was king, Currey and the No. 41 team worked their way up to 13th before the night’s end.

Post-Race Quote: Grant Enfinger is opening up round two of the playoffs with his third place finish; you said that you wanted to come into this one aggressive, is that what we saw displayed from the No. 23 tonight?

“Yeah, I feel like overall, we executed almost to the best of our ability. I feel like maybe I gave up one point coming to the end of that first stage, but overall, Jeff made some really great adjustments. We weren’t really all that great in practice, but he made it better towards the end of practice. When we fired off for the start of the race I thought we were pretty good. The last, the only set of tires didn’t really like it quite as much there. I wish we could have contended for the win, but overall I feel like we got all we could get out of our Champion Power Equipment Chevrolet. Lacking a little bit to contend for a win, we always want to fight for a win and we couldn’t do that, but I think overall we executed well on pit road. Tyler Monn made some great calls. Overall, I’m not happy, but I’m satisfied.”

So it was a rough way to finish a promising race for us, but I am thankful to all of the guys on my No. 43 team and to Champion Container and all of our partners for their support of our team. I had fun tonight but it was really hard to pass, so hopefully we won’t have to worry about that much next race at Talladega.”

ZANE SMITH, No. 38 Speedco/Delo Ford F-150 – “It’s really a cool racetrack, but a terrible race. It’s just wherever you are is where you are. They said I was pitted outside my box by a little bit and I had to start at the tail end. I mean, we definitely had a rough night. You saw it, wherever you were gonna restart is where you’re gonna run. My truck was terrible in the second stage, but I had clean air. You just can’t pass. It just sucks.”

HOW DO YOU LOOK AT THE NEXT TWO? “I’m not trying to be a negative Nellie, but it’s just an odd round for the final four. This is exactly how I raced last year and then Talladega to get in the final four is a little odd, so who know on that one. We’ve obviously won on superspeedways with FRM, but it’s anyone’s battle, and then I feel like the only real place that’s a true tell is Homestead, so hopefully we’ll run well there.”

IS THIS A SHORT TRACK PACKAGE PROBLEM BEING STUCK WHERE YOU ARE? “No. I don’t know. I mean, you just can’t move around and the PJ1 is so dominant. Like I said, you saw how dominant it was. I had 100 laps on tires and almost won the stage somehow. It just is what it is.”

BEN RHODES, No. 99 Kubota Ford F-150 – “A good finish, but we didn’t run where we needed to all night long to maintain our points coming out of here, so that’s a little bit disappointing. That comes from a bad qualifying effort and then ultimately just getting run over by Rajah and the 4 tonight. It doesn’t seem like if they mess up a corner and you get down they just run you over. I don’t know what that’s all about, but us racing the playoffs I think everybody in the playoffs is on edge, so I don’t think many of us will take that much longer.”

TY MAJESKI, No. 98 Road Ranger Ford F-150 – “It just was not our night. We were in a bad position with a lapped truck. He was kind of going and making decent time on the bottom and the 11 pinned me and I just didn’t anticipate how much he was going to lift going in the corner. I got in the brake hard and had to in order to prevent from hitting him and got into the 11. That cut my right-front down and this track is honestly just really terrible. With the PJ1 on the bottom it’s so dominant. I mean, I’m three or four tenths faster than the guys in the back and you just can’t go anywhere. In my opinion, it’s a terrible product on such a great racetrack. I just wish we could pass and move around. You like to have options as a driver and I feel like the way this track is it doesn’t give us options.”

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THESE NEXT TWO RACES IN THE ROUND? “We won Homestead last year. Talladega, anybody can win there, so I don’t know. I’m not a huge fan of the plate races, but at the end of the day we have a chance to win there. If we repeat at Homestead again, we’re in the final four, so a lot to look forward to. We have a lot of good things going on within our race team, so we’ll keep our heads down and keep digging.”

He’s Back!: This week at Bristol Motor Speedway, Young’s Motorsports welcomes back Willow Park, Texas native Kaden Honeycutt, as the driver of the No. 02 RANDCO Industries Inc. Chevrolet Silverado RST for the fourth time in 2023.

Earlier this year, Honeycutt had an impressive showing in his Young’s Motorsports debut at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway in May, where he qualified on speed in 24th position and fought throughout the 158-lap race for a lead-lap 10th-place finish.

The result was a season-best for the Mooresville, N.C.-based team.

A week later, he delivered a solid 17th-place finish after starting 11th in the inaugural Tyson 250.

Most recently, Honeycutt steered the No. 02 RANDCO Industries Inc. Chevrolet Silverado RST in last Friday night’s Kansas Lottery 200.

Bristol will signify his 10th Truck Series start of the 2023 season between three teams.

About Kaden: Kaden Honeycutt is 20 years old and resides in Aledo, TX. Honeycutt started racing in 2012 in the Bandolero Division, compiling multiple wins throughout Alabama and Texas.

In 2016, he moved into the INEX Legend Car Young Lions Division, where he visited victory lane multiple times. In 2017, he advanced to the INEX Pro Series, where he won the Las Vegas Bullring Showdown.

2017 also saw Honeycutt competing in the Pro Truck Series, including the 2017 Pro Truck Snowball Derby event at Five Flags (Fla.) Speedway.

From 2018 to 2020, he graduated to the ARCA Menards Series and competed in select Super Late Model and IMCA Dirt Modified events.

Over the past two seasons, he has participated in the CARS Tours Late Model program, picking up three victories and continuing to compete in select IMCA Dirt Modified events.

Last year, he advanced to the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series, where he amassed one top-10 and three top-15 finishes.

This season, he has continued a limited Truck Series program while also competing in select CARS Tour events.

Back To Familiar Territory: Fan favorite Spencer Boyd invades familiar territory this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway, the 20th race of the 2023 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series season, eyeing his first top-10 of the year but more importantly, hunting his second win of his Truck Series career.

Welcome Back!: Young’s Motorsports welcomes back driver Greg Van Alst as driver of the No. 20 Young’s Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado RST for Thursday night’s UNOH 200 presented by Ohio Logistics and the remainder of the 2023 Truck Series season.

Van Alst invades the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series tour with Young’s Motorsports after a successful Late Model career in the Midwest, which included the 2019 ARCA | CRA championship and runner-up in 2020.

After running a part-time ARCA Menards Series schedule in 2001, he returned 20 years later to make his debut at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. After a successful part-time schedule, which included a runner-up finish at Winchester (Ind.) Speedway, Van Alst increased his presence in 2022, leading to a championship assault.

In 2022, Van Alst returned to the ARCA Menards Series scene, where his family-owned team ran the complete schedule with one top-five and 11 top-10 finishes en route to a fifth-place finish in the championship standings.

He returned to the ARCA tour with a vengeance in 2023 and kicked off the season with a victory in the Brandt 200 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, a triumphant achievement for an underfunded organization.

Following the victory, Van Alst competed in four other races before opting to bow out of the championship race and focus on other driving opportunities outside the series.

Van Alst made his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut at Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway in July for Alpha Prime Racing and will run the remaining seven NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series races in 2023 for Young’s Motorsports.

Outside of racing, Van Alst is a successful entrepreneur, successfully launching Top Choice Fence, one of the premier fence-building companies in east-central Indiana.

Van Alst married his high school sweetheart, Christi, in 2005; they have four children together.

Greg Van Alst Truck Series Bristol Motor Speedway Stats: Thursday night’s UNOH 200 at Bristol Motor Speedway will mark Van Alst’s inaugural Truck Series start at the historic Tennessee short track.

Although he has no NASCAR experience in The Volunteer State, he has two prior starts in the NASCAR-owned ARCA Menards Series. In those starts, he has earned two top-15 finishes, including a track-best of 14th in last September’s Bush’s Beans 200.

The former ARCA | CRA champion also has turned laps at Bristol in a Late Model.

Chassis History/Info
Dye and the No. 43 team will compete with GMS Racing chassis no. 343 at Bristol on Thursday. Daniel has only raced this chassis three times this season, and has finished in 19th both times with it at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Darlington Raceway. Those are the only two races that the chassis has on its build sheet, so it will make its first race in Thunder Valley this weekend.

Bainbridge at Bristol

No. 43 Crew Chief, Blake Bainbridge, has made two NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at Bristol Motor Speedway, finishing a best of sixth place in 2005 with Jeremy Mayfield at the helm. His most recent race held in Thunder Valley was back in 2020, where he coached Taylor Gray to a seventh place finish in the ARCA Menards Series race. Blake also has called two ARCA Menards Series East races, and in 2019, he finished second here with Ty Gibbs as his driver.

You’ve had the chance to race at Bristol a few times in the past, so do you like this track? What do you think is going to be the most important goal for you on Thursday night?

“I like Bristol for the most part, for sure. Having two ARCA races under my belt is going to be helpful, I also ran fourth there in a Super Late Model as well a couple years ago, so I’ve got quite a few laps around that joint. Just looking forward to getting there with Champion Container on board. It’s their last race with us for this year, and it’s been a pleasure having them at the racetrack. I think one of the most important things will be track position. You hear that about a lot of places on our schedule, but Bristol is so tiny and fast, so we have to make sure that we can turn well enough to get under guys and pass them, but we also have to qualify good and maintain our track position.”

Kansas Recap: A mechanical issue in practice left the 45 team making repairs and required Lawless Alan to start shotgun on the field due to the unapproved adjustments. Alan and team worked hard to gain track position, but a lack of cautions left little time to regroup and make adjustments. The No. 45 ultimately ended the day in 22nd.

Kansas Recap: The No. 42 Worldwide Express Chevrolet lined up 17th to start the 134-Lap race. Carson Hocevar and team felt confident in the speed of the No. 42 Chevrolet, and quickly advanced through traffic in the opening stage of Friday night’s race, collecting stage points in Stage One. Those stage points locked Hocevar into the ‘Round of 8’ in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series playoffs. After locking in, the gloves came off and Hocevar made light work of the front of the pack, taking the lead for the first time on Lap 49. Hocevar led a total of 32 laps on the day, before being shuffled back on a late race restart, ultimately finishing sixth.

Hocevar on Last Race at Kansas Speedway: “I can’t thank everyone enough at Niece Motorsports for building such a fast Worldwide Express Chevrolet,” said Hocevar. “That truck was a rocket. It’s definitely disappointing that we didn’t end the day in Victory Lane, because I feel like we had a truck capable of winning. But, I’m so proud of this team for their hard work and advancing into the ‘Round of 8’. We still have a shot at this championship and that’s our ultimate goal as an organization.”

Starting the Playoffs Hot: The ‘Round of 8’ in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series playoffs kicks off on Thursday night. Following races at Bristol Motor Speedway, Talladega Superspeedway and Homestead-Miami Speedway, the field of eight drivers will be cut to four as the Series heads to Phoenix Raceway for the season finale. Heading into the first race of the round, Hocevar is currently fourth in the Playoff standings.

Kansas Recap: Bayley Currey and the No 41 team lined up 22nd to start the 134-lap race at Kansas Speedway on Friday night. A spin in Stage One left Currey with four flat tires and forced him to limp his truck to pit road, losing two laps in the process. The team fought hard the remainder of the race to get back on the lead lap, but the cautions did not fall at the right time. Currey ended the night with a 21st-place result.

Currey on Last Race at Kansas Speedway: “I don’t feel like we ever really got a chance to show what we had tonight,” said Currey. “We lost a couple of laps after that early spin and spent the rest of the race trying to get them back. Not the outcome we were looking for, but I’m proud of the fight of everyone on this team and appreciate Worldwide Express and Unishippers for their support.”
