HEIM, FRIESEN AND TAYLOR GRAY GET TOP-10 FINISHES AT HOMESTEAD
Heim extends buffer to cutline heading to cutoff race

HOMESTEAD, Fla. (October 26, 2024) – After starting from pole and leading the most laps Saturday afternoon, Corey Heim finished fourth in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Leading a total of 68 laps, 54 of the first 60, and winning the first stage and finishing second in Stage 2, Heim was the truck to beat for most of the 134-lap race. An early caution in Stage 3 flipped the strategy for teams up and down the pitlane, with a handful taking the chance to pit early under the caution, which put Heim in the mid-pack after his last pit stop under green. The 22-year-old driver of the No. 11 Tundra TRD Pro fought his way back up the field with fresh tires but was unable to get all the way back to the front, ending in fourth position once the checkered flag flew.

Taylor Gray joined his TRICON Garage teammate on the front row Saturday and finished fourth and sixth in the first two stages as he also had a strong Tundra TRD Pro. Like Heim, the varying strategies in the final stage put him behind but was also able to gain some spots in the closing laps to finish 10th, securing his 12th top-10 finish this season and fifth in the last seven races. Stewart Friesen used the alternate strategy to his advantage to come home in sixth position for his sixth top-10 finish this season after starting the day 12th.

With the Stage 1 win and his 13th top-five finish this season, Heim now holds a 49-point cushion to the Playoff cutline heading to Martinsville. Gray enters next weekend 24 points below the cutline.

The final Round of 8 race for the Truck Series takes place at Martinsville Speedway next Friday, November 1. Coverage can be seen on FS1 at 6 p.m. ET, along with radio coverage on MRN and SiriusXM Radio Channel 90.

    TOYOTA QUOTES

COREY HEIM, No. 11 Safelite Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, TRICON Garage

    Finishing Position: 4th

Take us through your day today.

“Yeah, I mean overall, a good day for points and what not. Obviously, the main goal is to get to Phoenix, so yeah, disappointing. We were so fast last year (here) and wanted to come back and redeem ourselves and win the race, of course. But, have no complaints as far as points go. Makes Martinsville a little bit easier, but still have to put together a decent day. Proud of all my TRICON Garage Toyota Racing Safelite guys for their efforts. Yeah, just oddly enough, we struggled with long-run speed which typically isn’t our forté. We definitely fired off better than we ended the run, so with that, once we got through the cycle and had a lap better on the 98 (Ty Majeski), as far as tires, and then we had the gap (behind the leaders after his pit stop) and able to drive away, (maybe) see those guys run out of gas, but it just never fell our way.”

STEWART FRIESEN, No. 52 Halmar International Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, Halmar Friesen Racing

    Finishing Position: 6th

How was your race today, coming home in sixth position?

“Yeah, we could fire off on the race start and the restarts really good, but were just too draggy on the our runs. But on the really long run there, we didn’t fall off and had a really good package underneath it. We’ll take a sixth(-place finish).”

TAYLOR GRAY, No. 17 A Place of Hope Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, TRICON Garage

    Finishing Position: 10th

How was your race today and what’s your mindset heading to Martinsville next weekend?

“Obviously, didn’t really get the points day we wanted. And then, just, strategy got us there at the end. Still came out with a top-10. Can’t thank my TRICON Garage guys enough for working their butts off all week long and preparing our Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. Just have to go to Martinsville, (pause), we’re in a must-win position, so try to go to Martinsville and be aggressive.”

    Toyota Racing – Corey Heim
    NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series Quotes

HOMESTEAD, Fla. (October 25, 2024) – TRICON Garage driver Corey Heim was made available to the media on Friday after winning the pole position for the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

COREY HEIM, No. 11 Safelite Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, TRICON Garage

Can you take us through your pole-winning lap?

“Yeah, it was a good day for us. We’ve been so successful on these intermediate tracks in this 2024 campaign for TRICON Garage. (I’m) Always excited to get back to Homestead. It’s a driver’s favorite (track), including me and many others. So, (I) have high hopes coming into this race with our intermediate program being so good with TRICON and Homestead being another of those. It’s obviously paid off so far, just need to follow up with a win tomorrow. That’s the goal, but always satisfied with our TRICON Garage guys. Our Safelite Tundra TRD Pro was good today.”

What have you learned about yourself over the course of this season?

“Yeah, it’s been a year of ups and downs, but I’ve been fortunate to be a part of a great organization in TRICON (Garage) and having a career year for myself. We’ve doubled our win total from last year and quite frankly, just been the Truck to beat for most weeks and (throughout) the year. Being with those guys and learning from them and what makes them so good and just appreciating being a part of a winning race team is the first thing. But you mentioned the lows. I’ve definitely had my fair share of bad races this year. Last year, we prided ourselves on consistency, and this year has been more of a rocky road. But, at the end of the day, it’s going to come down to one race if we can make the Championship 4 in Phoenix. To answer your question on what I’ve learned about myself, it’s just to keep my head held high and take it one week at a time as you know. Certainly, can’t take these opportunities for granted and keep moving forward.”

How did you make up so much ground from practice to qualifying?

“Yeah, that’s a good question. We fired off not exactly where we wanted to be but last year, we were really good on the long runs here. So, just wanted to run the practice out and (we) progressively got better and better. I feel like we were in the top-five in 20-to-30-lap averages, I don’t know if we ran up to 30, but I assume we were pretty far up there the longer you go. So, just kept my head up and had faith the truck would come in, which it did, and we made some really good qualifying adjustments. Last year, I didn’t qualify as well as I had hoped to for this race, so (we) worked on it a lot the past couple weeks to prepare for it and it paid off.”

    Ford Performance Notes and Quotes
    NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series
Baptist Health 200 Media Availability | Homestead-Miami Speedway
    Friday, October 25, 2024

Frankie Muniz announced earlier this week that he will be driving full-time in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series next season with Reaume Brothers Racing. He visited the infield media center at Homestead-Miami Speedway before today’s practice and qualifying session to talk about the move with reporters.

FRANKIE MUNIZ, No. 33 Reaume Brothers Ford F-150 – CAN YOU TALK ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY AND WHAT THAT MEANS TO YOU? “I’m absolutely thrilled, obviously, that we got to make the announcement to be driving for Reaume Brothers next year full-time. I mean, my plans for this year definitely changed from what we thought it was gonna be and being part-time is not easy. It’s hard to watch, but it’s also hard knowing that I just need experience to play catch-up to all of the people I’m competing against, and to be out of the car or truck as much as I was this year was tough. So, I was super excited to get my deal done early. We’ve known that I was gonna sign with them for a while now and be able to announce it to where I’m literally starting today is prepping for next year. Even for my wife and my life and my son to know, here is where we’re gonna be when, it just makes it so nice to plan ahead.”

DO YOU LIVE IN THE CHARLOTTE AREA NOW? “I live in Scottsdale, Arizona. I will be based out of Charlotte during the season next year. That’s the plan. I want to put myself into every situation I can to be better as a race car driver, so if that’s spending more time with the team, if that’s going over stuff with engineers and watching past races and with my spotter and being in the simulator that I’m lucky enough that Ford really gives me a lot of access to, great, but let’s do it. Going back and forth is not easy and I just want to fully immerse myself in being a NASCAR driver and the best way to do that is to really be by the team in Charlotte.”

WHAT KEPT YOU GOING THIS YEAR WITHOUT HAVING AS MANY OPPORTUNITIES AS YOU HAD HOPED? “It was definitely hard, especially the races that we did do weren’t great. We had either bad luck or I just wasn’t good. Like in Phoenix this year I was awful, so I take it to heart because I want to be out there. I want to prove that I can do it, but how can I even prove it to myself if I’m not out there doing it. It’s hard on my family because this year we thought was gonna be one thing and it wasn’t, so there’s a lot of me having down days of just thinking like, ‘Man, I was gonna do this or I thought I was gonna be here.’ The plan changing so much to where my wife went to Italy by herself this year because I couldn’t commit to going with her because I needed to be available for something that we thought was gonna happen and didn’t happen. I want to be a better husband for her. One reason I said I went racing in general was to be an inspiration for my son, but if I’m not doing that, then what am I doing? So, that’s why it was really important for me to start focusing on 2025 and kind of get everything shored up. I don’t want to be thinking about where I’m gonna be next week because it takes away from focusing on where you are right then. Fortunately, I don’t have to do that next year.”

DID YOU EVER THINK THIS MIGHT NOT WORK OUT? “I’m definitely not a quitter. I jumped into stock cars for the first time last year and I wanted to look back at this experience, good or bad, whatever it is, and feel like I tried my best. I gave it a fair shot. I don’t want to do it and go, ‘I wonder if I did one more season’ or ‘I wonder if I kept going what could we have done?’ If you asked me what my plan is for 2026, I couldn’t tell you. I really want to give next year a full blown effort and see where we stack up and make the decision based on what we see we do.”

YOU GOT SICK OVER THE SUMMER. DID THAT AFFECT WHAT YOU WERE PLANNING TO DO ON THE TRACK? “Not necessarily. I got really sick. I was sick for almost six weeks, like literally in bed. I lost 30 pounds. It was bad. I got some crazy parasite in Mexico, so I’m not going there anytime soon, but it didn’t – to be honest. I was supposed to be full-time this year and then when that happened I was gonna do 10 races in Xfinity and a bunch of Truck races and it just kept evolving. With the situation I had it’s tough because I’m so grateful to be a Ford driver, but there’s not a ton of seats and obviously at midseason they’re full, so where do you go? What do you do? So, trying to figure that out but still doing at least enough races to keep used to it so that if the opportunity does come up I can do it. It’s hard to watch. It’s really hard to watch on TV as a driver. You want to be out there competing and especially for me. I want to keep learning. I know I’ve said that for two years. I said it last year in ARCA, but I still have so much that I need to experience for the first time and that’s really the goal for these last two races. I’m doing Miami. I’m doing Phoenix. Not that we’re using it as a test session, but we’re using it to gel as a team and then figure out what I need or me figure out what I need, put myself in situations for the first time with these drivers and just be better prepares so when we show up at Daytona we’re head down and trying to be as competitive as possible.”

DO YOU HAVE ANY GOALS SET FOR NEXT SEASON? “I think a realistic goal, obviously as a race car driver I say I want to win. I want to be the best, but realistically the series is tough. There are a lot of good drivers and a lot of good teams, but I think if we could consistently be in the top 20 that would be a huge achievement for us. I know that Josh Reaume is ultra motivated. That’s what I really love about him. There are some teams that you talk to that they’re kind of not stuck in their ways, but just accept where they are and he is not that at all. He wants to bring the team to be the highest level it can possibly be, and I think what I can bring to that is my relationship with Ford. They’re now gonna be an actual Ford team and get the support from Ford as a manufacturer, which in itself is gonna help the performance, and the access that we get to all that stuff. So, I’m excited to help build the team with them and I know they’re excited to have me, so I think we’re gonna work really well together.”

WHAT DO YOU FEEL PROUD OF THIS YEAR, SOMETHING THAT WAS A LEARNING MOMENT? “As a driver, I don’t want to sound negative, but I’ve tried to forget most of what I did this year, to be honest. I’m just being 100 percent honest. There’s nothing I can say, ‘Well, that was good’ or ‘That built my confidence.’ The Truck races that I did, I feel really good with even though we didn’t have the result we wanted. We had a puncture behind the pace car in Kansas. We literally went down two laps before the race even started, so I haven’t felt like I’ve gotten the opportunity to even try to race with people. I’m like, ‘I’m on my own. Just try not to wreck anybody.’ It’s a weird mindset to be in, but at the same time I take those experiences and the speed that we did have when we were running and go, ‘OK, I can do this. I can compete with these guys.’ I obviously need to get better at our qualifying – the single lap qualifying thing. I’ve never been so nervous in my life – the fact that you have to perform in that one moment. In ARCA, you had a 20-minute session, but we’d always go out and do two laps. I know in my mind you have another try, so getting better at that and pit stops – weird things like that that I just haven’t experienced much to be ready for next season. I guess the positive to bring is that I did go to Josh and get that first try in the truck at Nashville and realized I love it and now I know what I’m doing next year, so I guess that’s the positive.”

ARE YOU 100 PERCENT FROM THE SUMMER? “I’m 100 percent. There’s no effects from being sick anymore. I’m ready to put my head down and go fast.”

DOES THIS CLOSE THE WINDOW ON ACTING BECAUSE DURING YOUR ARCA SEASON THERE WAS A MOVIE YOU DID? “Yeah, I think that movie is coming out the week before Daytona. That’s what I heard, so that’s gonna be interesting. But, no, my focus is 100 percent being a race car driver. There are gaps, but I’m not trying to fill them with other things. Obviously, you don’t know what’s gonna happen. As an actor, you don’t know what opportunity may come up where you go, ‘Hey, it’s a week. We have three weeks off. Yeah, let me do it.’ So, I’m not closing the door 100 percent to it, but I don’t want people to think I’m just doing this part-time or I’m just doing this as a hobby. I’m kind of doing it on the side. No, those three weeks are gonna be used to prep for the next six races in a row or whatever it may be, so that’s the focus.”

YOU WANT TO BE THE RACE CAR DRIVER THAT ACTS SOMETIMES VERSUS THE OTHER WAY AROUND? “Yeah. When you are competing – everyone out there this is their lives. Everyone in the Truck Series, they’re trying to make it to the Xfinity Series or they’re trying to make it to the Cup Series. They are dedicating every waking moment to being the best driver they can be, so how could I think that I could come in and do it halfway? You can’t, especially I think this weekend is my 25th oval race of my life. I didn’t grow up racing late models or have tons of experience, so I have to focus even more on learning and improving just to catch up. That’s my focus. That’s my goal. I don’t want people just to hear that I’m a race car driver or me to just say that I’m a race car driver, I want people to believe it and the only way to get them to believe it is to go out there and do it and impress. Racing is not subjective. You’re either at the top of the leaderboard or you’re not, so you kind of see where you stand and what you need to work on and that’s what I’m gonna do.”

IS IT HARDER THAN YOU THOUGHT TO LAND SPONSORSHIP FOR RACING? “I think what’s surprising is there are a lot of big brands on race cars. One thing, and this is nothing against it, but a lot of companies you see on a lot of cars are family members or dads or friends companies and stuff like that. I would say that it has surprised me, like even this week with the announcement. I didn’t know how well it would be received, but it kind of went everywhere. I was watching Sportscenter and they were talking about me joining the Truck Series, so it’s great in the sense that maybe it’s getting eyeballs to the series that don’t watch, and I hope so. But, at that same time I go, my phone isn’t ringing off the hook with potential sponsors. That’s part of the job. You’re constantly searching for funds. I would say 90 percent of being a race car driver is finding funding to continue to do it, so that said we’re great for next year. Obviously, we would love to add more partners because then I could do more races. I could add ARCA races. We can do other things just to keep getting as much experience as possible and that’s our goal as a team.”

THERE HAS TO BE A BIG MALCOLM FAN OUT THERE, RIGHT? “I’m sure Elon Musk watched. I bet that SpaceX truck would look really good. A lot of it is relationships and finding someone who believes in what you’re trying to do and that’s what we’re trying to tell the story of what we’re trying to achieve and what we can offer to them. It’s got to be a win-win for everybody and that’s what we try to do as a team and me as a driver to make sure that they’re not just writing a check and it’s having me go racing. They’re actually benefiting from what we’re doing on the racetrack.”

    Connor Mosack Quotes
All of your starts with Spire thus far have been on intermediate tracks. Despite running a limited schedule, does this help you when preparing for this weekend’s race at Homestead?
“I think the similar style of tracks definitely helps in getting comfortable with the truck. When you are in and out of the seat, you have to relearn how the truck drives in traffic and how to feel the air. With all of my starts coming at similar venues, I’m able to retain some of that information and draw comparisons from weekend to weekend.”

You have a lot experience, and success, at Kansas Speedway. Do you believe Homestead is a track that will race similar to Kansas?
“Kansas has been a really good place for me in everything I’ve ran there. I have plenty of experience running against the fence and that will definitely transition to Homestead. It takes a certain level of experience to be comfortable putting your equipment up there. Otherwise, the tracks are pretty different. The surface at Homestead is a lot more worn out, the seams between the grooves are difficult to maneuver and the tire falloff is far more drastic.”

Rajah Caruth – Driver, No. 71 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado

    • Rajah Caruth will pilot Spire Motorsports’ No. 71 HENDRICKCARS.COM Chevrolet Silverado in Saturday’s Baptist Health 200 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

    • The 2024 season has marked a career year for Caruth. He’s totaled one win, a pair of Cometic Gasket Pole Awards and five top-five finishes, all of which are the first of his young career. • Caruth will pilot Spire Manufacturing chassis SMT-085, a brand new Chevrolet Silverado.

    Rajah Caruth Quotes
Homestead is a beast of its own. What characteristics make it a good track for you and your team?
“Homestead is a good track because of the nature of the race track. You have an abrasive, multi-groove surface where you can run along the white line, against the fence or anywhere in between. I feel like it is right in my wheelhouse. From the team perspective, the mile-and-a-half tracks are our strengths. That kind of racetrack is the strong suit of the trucks built in this shop. Top fives are the team expectation when racing at places like Homestead.”

Chase Purdy – Driver, No.77 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado

    • Chase Purdy will drive Spire Motorsports’ No. 77 Bama Buggies Chevrolet Silverado in Saturday’s Baptist Health 200 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
    • In last season’s visit to Homestead, the Meridian, Miss., native rolled off 14th and converted the second-most quality passes in the field (50) en route to a 10th-place finish. The result marked his 10th top 10 of the season, doubling his career total prior to 2023.

    • While racing for Kyle Busch Motorsports in 2023, Purdy had the best statistical season of his career. He earned three top-five, 11 top-10 and 14 top-15 finishes while notching a career-best finish of second at Texas Motor Speedway (April 1) and claiming his first career Truck Series pole at Kansas Speedway (Sept. 8). He would snag his second career pole two races later at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway (Sept. 30), a race in which he led a career-high 11 laps.
    • Crew chief Jason Trinchere has called the shots for three NASCAR Xfinity Series events at the 1.5-mile oval, highlighted by a fourth-place effort with Daniel Hemric at Kaulig Racing in 2022.
    • Purdy will be behind the wheel of Spire Manufacturing chassis SMT-073 on Saturday. He piloted the truck to a sixth-place finish at Darlington in May.

    Chase Purdy Quotes

The whole team is giving max effort as the year comes to a close because we all want to get the job done in the last three outings. We have one goal. Win.”

“I’m excited for Homestead. Our mile-and-a-half program has really improved, and we showed that with our second-place finish at Kansas. Dylan (Cappello), the road crew, and the whole shop have been putting in overtime on this truck, so I have a good feeling about this weekend regardless of it being my first time at Homestead.”

    CREW CHIEF DYLAN CAPPELLO:

“I have a good feeling about Homestead. We have really amped up our mile-and-a-half program, so I’m excited to see what speed we bring this weekend. We want to play “playoff spoiler”, and I know Layne (Riggs) does too. Hopefully we can do it at Homestead.”

Ford Performance NASCAR – 2024 Homestead-Miami Playoff Advance

    HOMESTEAD-MIAMI

    Saturday, October 26 — NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, 12 p.m. ET (FS1)
Saturday, October 26 — NASCAR Xfinity Series, 4 p.m. ET (CW)
Sunday, October 27 — NASCAR Cup Series, 2:30 p.m. ET (NBC)

All three of NASCAR”s top touring series are in the same spot going into this weekend’s action at Homestead-Miami Speedway as each prepares for the middle race in the Round of 8. The action kicks off with a Saturday doubleheader featuring the NASCAR Craftsman Truck and NASCAR Xfinity Series while the NASCAR Cup Series closes out the weekend on Sunday afternoon.

LOGANO CLINCHES SPOT IN CHAMPIONSHIP 4

Joey Logano led only six laps on Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, but they were the final six and that vaulted him into the Championship 4 for the sixth time since the format was introduced in 2014. Coincidentally, all of Logano’s appearances have come in even years (2014, ‘16, ‘18, ‘20, ‘22 and ‘24). The two-time Cup Series champion will look to become the 10th driver to win at least three titles and join the likes of three-time winners Tony Stewart, Cale Yarborough, Darrell Waltrip, David Pearson and Lee Petty; four-time champion Jeff Gordon; and seven-time titleholders Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty.

    BLANEY LOOKING FOR BOUNCE BACK

Ryan Blaney’s Round of 8 got off to a rough start and it started on the second lap of practice when he ran over something on the track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and punctured his left-rear tire. That resulted in him hitting the wall and being forced to a backup. He was working his way through the field, but on lap 90 he got rear end damage in a multi-car accident and lost multiple laps while his crew made repairs. The result was a 32nd-place finish that has the defending champ seventh in the standings, 47 points below the cut line. Blaney has nine career series starts at Homestead-Miami Speedway and is still looking for his first win, but he finished runner-up a year ago after leading 53 laps.

CLIMBING THE ALL-TIME FORD WIN LIST

Logano’s victory was the 35th of his NASCAR Cup Series career and 33rd with Ford, which is fourth on the all-time Blue Oval win list. The only three drivers ahead of him are Ned Jarrett (43), Bill Elliott (40) and Mark Martin (35).

ALL-TIME FORD WIN LIST (TOP 5)

    43 – Ned Jarrett
    40 – Bill Elliott
    35 – Mark Martin
    33 – Joey Logano
    30 – Dale Jarrett

PENSKE SITTING ON 99 FORD CUP WINS

In addition to being fourth on Ford’s all-time win list, Logano has also won more races for Team Penske with Ford than any other driver. His win on Sunday marked the organization’s 99th with the manufacturer. Rusty Wallace scored the first win when he won at North Carolina Motor Speedway in Rockingham, NC, in 1994. Team Penske won 27 races from 1994-2002 and then returned to Ford in 2013 with Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano. Since then, they’ve added a third car with Ryan Blaney and have won 72 times. Seven different drivers have won at least one race with Team Penske and Ford with Logano leading the way (33).

    TEAM PENSKE ALL-TIME FORD WINNERS

    33 – Joey Logano
    26 – Brad Keselowski
    23 – Rusty Wallace
    11 – Ryan Blaney
    3 – Jeremy Mayfield
    2 – Austin Cindric
    1 – Ryan Newman

RYAN BLANEY: “I love going to Homestead-Miami and I feel like if you ask any driver they love that racetrack just because it’s so unique in its shape, the surface that it has. We put a great run together there last year and had a great shot to win that race, so I really enjoy it. To me, that’s one of the more risk-reward racetracks that we go to. The closer you get to the fence, the faster you can go if you can run properly, but it’s one of those things where you inch closer and closer to it and you might hit it. I feel like the tire fall off there is a huge factor, too. You’re running inches away from the wall with no wiggle room and your tires get worse every lap, so how do you judge that as a driver going into the corner fully committed, but you can’t just do the same thing every lap. You’re always continuing to understand tire wear and things like that, so I feel like that is a huge driver racetrack. I think everyone really enjoys that part of it and I’m excited to get back to that.”

JOEY LOGANO: “Homestead has been a good track. I think every driver loves Homestead because the racing is pretty cool. As a driver you can run right up next to the wall. You can run right on the bottom. There’s a ton of tire fall off. The strategy is pretty interesting as it goes along with the long green flag runs depending on if you short pit and try to jump some cars, but then you’re gonna lose them on the back end of the run. It’s fun to watch all of that play out, so I think if you’re a purist race fan, Homestead is your racetrack because it doesn’t have any of that gimmicky stuff. It’s just old-school racing when you go there.”

HOMESTEAD FEELS LIKE HOME FOR ROUSH

Car owner Jack Roush has had his share of success on intermediate speedways, but his streak of winning seven times in nine years at Homestead-Miami is arguably one of the best. Kurt Busch won the organization’s first Cup race at the track in 2002 before Greg Biffle won three straight from 2004-06. That was part of a five-year winning streak that saw Matt Kenseth and Carl Edwards go to Victory Lane in ’07 and ’08, respectively. Edwards capped the run by winning for a second time in 2010. Since then, Roush has celebrated NASCAR Xfinity Series championships at the track, twice with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (2011 and 2012) and once with Chris Buescher (2015).

CUSTER OFF TO GOOD START IN ROUND OF 8

Cole Custer had a solid weekend in the Round of 8 opener at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, qualifying second and finishing eighth. In between, he won the first stage and scored 15 stage points, so the California native finds himself third in the playoff point standings with two races remaining. Custer, who is 16 points above the cut line going into Saturday’s race, captured his first series victory at Homestead-Miami Speedway in 2017 and also has a pair of runner-up finishes in five career series starts.

    MAJESKI ABOVE THE CUT LINE

ThorSport’s Ty Majeski has one series victory at Homestead-Miami Speedway with that coming in 2022 and another one this weekend would automatically put him in the Championship 4. The Wisconsin native goes into the race fourth in the playoff standings, five points above the cut line. Majeski has finished in the top 10 in all three of his career series starts on the mile-and-a-half track, adding a 10th-place finish in 2020 and ninth-place result last year to his victory two years ago.

I documented the entire creative process, and you can check it out on our Instagram,” said Hans Dose, the inventor of Tenikle. This collaboration has already opened up so many opportunities, and I can’t wait to see where it leads next!”

Daymond John, CEO of the brand FUBU and founder of the Shark Group will join Hans, Spencer, and the Freedom Racing Enterprises team at the race in Miami. Daymond’s investment in Tenikle on Shark Tank has helped propel the brand to record-breaking sales and a loyal following among creators.

Driver: Bayley Currey | Crew Chief: Wally Rogers
    Bayley Currey
    @BayleyCurrey
    @BayleyCurrey05

    • Currey’s Homestead Stats: Bayley Currey has started two NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series races at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Currey earned his track-best finish in last year’s event with an impressive fifth-place result. In four Xfinity Series starts here, Currey’s best finish is 13th (2022).
    • Niece Motorsports’ Homestead Stats: Niece Motorsports drivers have combined to make a total of 16 NCTS starts at Homestead-Miami. The organization is the defending race winner following a late charge by Carson Hocevar in last year’s 200-mile event. Four top-fives and five top-10s have been scored by Niece at this track since 2017.
    • Rogers’ Homestead Stats: Wally Rogers has called seven NCTS races at Homestead-Miami with a stat sheet of one top-five and two top-10 finishes. Rogers earned his series-best track finish (fifth) in his first start with Matt Crafton in 2004 and finished 19th with Lawless Alan last year. Rogers has competed in five Xfinity Series races at Homestead, with highlights including one top-10 (Randy LaJoie; sixth in 2002) and one pole with Greg Biffle in ’03. He’s also made a handful of Cup starts at the 1.5-mile track.
    • On the Truck: Currey’s No. 41 Chevrolet Silverado RST will race with support from Masked Owl Technologies and DQS Solutions & Staffing.
    • Recapping Talladega: Bayley Currey and the No. 41 team had to overcome several issues throughout the day at Talladega. After qualifying 32nd, the DQS crew changed an engine before the start of the race. Having to start shotgun on the field, Currey began to pass trucks early in stage one before he ran over debris with a cut right front tire. While on pit road, his truck suffered terminal damage to the rear gear, dropping him out of the race with a 36th-place finish.
    • Points Rundown: Following Currey’s 36th-place result in Talladega, the driver of the No. 41 Chevy dropped one spot in the championship points standings. Heading into Homestead-Miami, Currey sits 19th overall, just eleven points behind Bret Holmes in 18th. Currey has a 15-point gap over Ty Dillon who is currently scored 20th.
    • Quoting Currey: Since you’re taking the same truck that you raced with in Kansas to Homestead, does that raise your expectations this week?

“I think it does. We had a bad fast piece last time we raced this truck in Kansas and I think both tracks are similar in a sense that we have so many options in which lanes we want to run. I’m hoping that we can unload similarly and keep up with the adjustments throughout the day. It’s going to be a lot hotter this weekend, so we should be slipping around a little more and I think that will be even better for me. Last year we had another great truck and got out of there with a top-five, so hopefully we can do it again with our Masked Owl / DQS Chevy.”

    • Quoting Rogers: Thoughts on competing at Homestead-Miami Speedway:

“I’m looking forward to Homestead especially since we are taking the same truck that we ran at Kansas. As a company, we have ran well there in the past so hopefully we can continue that this week. Tire strategy and track position will be key to having a good finish. If your truck handles well and with multiple grooves, that opens up some passing opportunities. Hopefully we can repeat what we did in Kansas and get our Masked Owl / DQS Silverado a good finish.”
DQS Solutions & Staffing Mission Statement: The core mission of DQS Solutions & Staffing is to attain unparalleled excellence in our specialized domains, specifically staffing and security. Simultaneously, we maintain the flexibility required to collaborate closely with our clients in the creation of innovative products and services within the framework of DQS.

No. 42 Utilitra / J.F. Electric Chevrolet Silverado RST
Driver: Matt Mills | Crew Chief: Mike Shiplett
    Matt Mills Racing
    @MattMillsRacing
    @MattMillsRacing

    • Competition Changes: Beginning this week at Homestead-Miami Speedway, the No. 42 team will be led by a new crew chief. Mike Shiplett, an industry veteran with 26 national series wins to his credit, has assumed this new role after departing Bret Holmes Racing. Shiplett has won several NASCAR Xfinity Series races with Evernham Motorsports, Chip Ganassi Racing, and most recently, Stewart-Haas Racing. He has also won races in the Cup & Truck Series atop the box in his career of 15-plus years.

Conversely, Jon Leonard remains with the organization to take on the crew chief role for the No. 44 team. Leonard called the first 20 races of the season for Mills and the No. 42 team which resulted in one top-five and two top-10 finishes.

    • Mills’ Homestead Stats: Matt Mills will make his first Truck Series start at Homestead-Miami Speedway this weekend. Mills has competed in five Xfinity Series races here, finishing as high as 24th in the second part of the double-header event in 2020.
    • Shiplett’s Homestead Stats: Mike Shiplett will call his first Truck Series race at Homestead on Saturday but has plenty of experience at this 1.5-mile track. Shiplett has made eight NXS starts here and owns one win (Kyle Larson, 2015) and one pole (Tyler Reddick, 2017). In total, Shiplett’s drivers picked up four top-fives and five top-10s in the Xfinity Series. He has also called four Cup Series races here, posting one top-five with AJ Allmendinger in 2010.
    • On the Truck: Mills’ No. 42 Chevrolet Silverado RST will race with support from longtime partners Utilitra and J.F. Electric. This will be the second race of the 2024 season which sees Utilitra showcased as his primary partner on the hood.
    • Breast Cancer Awareness: There’s a new look to the No. 42 Silverado this week as the traditional red color swatches have been replaced with bright pink in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness month. Utilitra, the woman-owned company who will serve as Mills’ primary sponsor, has been a large supporter of the American Cancer Society for several years.
    • Recapping Talladega: Matt Mills and the No. 42 team had a great showing at Talladega, but were involved in ‘the big one’. Mills qualified highest of all Niece Motorsports trucks in eighth, and jumped to the lead of the outside lane. The No. 42 held onto the lead to win stage one, marking his first-career stage victory. In stage two, Mills had a masterful save, but dropped to 16th. After a round of green flag pitstops, chaos ensued entering turn one and he was collected. With too much damage to continue, Mills was forced out in 31st.
    • Points Rundown: Leaving Talladega with a stage win in the bag, Matt Mills remains 23rd in the championship standings for another week. Mills gained ground on his nearest competitor, Timmy Hill in 22nd, with the deficit now only nine points between the two heading into Homestead-Miami. The driver of the No. 42 leads 24th-place’s Lawless Alan by a 26-point gap.
    • Quoting Mills: How much of a confidence boost did you get from winning your first stage last race in Talladega?

“That was pretty cool. We’ve had speed all year, but to finally get a result out of it – regardless of the finish of the race, was great. It was my first stage win, and I feel like that can add to our momentum going out there with a fast truck. That was a confidence builder for me, knowing that we had the speed and what our team is capable at Niece Motorsports was definitely pretty cool.”

    • Quoting Shiplett: On his midseason transition to Niece Motorsports:

“I’m looking forward to the opportunity to work at Niece Motorsports with Matt Mills. I see a lot of talent in Matt, and I’m mainly trying to help him showcase that talent and get some better finishes to end the year here strong. We want to focus heavily on these next three races to understand what we need to work on to be stronger heading into 2025.”

    • Daly Homestead Stats: Conor Daly will make his first start in any series at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Saturday’s Baptist Health 200.
    • Leonard’s Homestead Stats: Jon Leonard has called one prior Truck Series race at Homestead which resulted in an impressive third-place finish by Stewart Friesen in 2022. Leonard has also called two Cup Series races at this track, posting a best result of 24th with Michael McDowell in 2017.
    • On the Truck: Daly’s No. 44 Chevrolet Silverado RST will race with support from Polkadot. • Owner Points Outlook: The part-time No. 44 truck out of the Niece Motorsports stable remains 34th in the owner’s points standings after making its fifth start of the year at Talladega. Daly, along with Danny Bohn, Bayley Currey, and Matt Gould have all shared time behind the wheel of the No. 44 entry. Currey is earmarked as the driver with the best result having finished 15th at Bristol Motor Speedway last month.
    • Quoting Daly: Do you think your experience of running up near the wall in Kansas will help you in Homestead?

“I’m excited to get to Homestead only because I’ve watched this race so many years and it’s always been an exciting product, no matter what rank of the NASCAR ladder it is – whether its the Cup Series, Xfinity Series, or the CRAFTSMAN Truck Series. It’s my last race of the 2024 season as well, so I want to finish on a strong note. I thought I learned a lot at Kansas for sure, and learned a lot about the rules as well which I can use in the future.

We just want to try and take advantage of the practice session as quick as possible. It’s a new track for me, somewhere I’ve never driven before, but definitely ran the wall a lot at Kansas so hopefully that helps me. We want to obviously continue to try to better my best truck finish in my career and then hopefully we can slide into the top-10 this weekend.”

    • Quoting Leonard: What will be your biggest advantage in working with different drivers to end the year?

“I’d say that opportunity will help improve my repertoire so to say. Everyone drives a bit different and uses their own set of terms, so learning those different characteristics will be useful. Whether it’s in-house at the shop, different drivers, spotters, or crew members, I’d say working with different people is a good thing. We’ll see what we can put together with the No. 44 team to close the year out on a high note.”

    • Honeycutt’s Homestead Stats: Kaden Honeycutt has made one prior NCTS start at Homestead-Miami Speedway, where he finished 27th after qualifying in the top-15 in 2022.
    • Gould’s Homestead Stats: Phil Gould is the defending race-winning crew chief at Homestead and has made a total of four NCTS starts atop the pit box here. Including last year’s win with Carson Hocevar, Gould has two top-fives and three top-10 results in the Truck Series. In six Xfinity Series races, Gould’s best result was a 10th-place run with Brian Scott in 2014.
    • CARS Tour PLM Champion: Over the course of the final two CARS Tour Pro Late Model Series season, Kaden Honeycutt made up a sizable points deficit to propel him into the championship spotlight. Honeycutt drove to victory lane in the final two races at Tri-County and North Wilkesboro, making it three wins total on the year. He entered the finale six points behind the series leader, but put together a perfect race that enabled him to win the title in thrilling fashion.
    • On the Truck: Honeycutt’s No. 45 Chevrolet Silverado RST will race with support from Moore’s Venture Foods, a family-owned grocery store chain located in Oklahoma. 2024 marks the company’s 50th anniversary of the first store opening, and has been operated by the Moore family for three generations.
    • Recapping Talladega: Kaden Honeycutt and the No. 45 team played a great strategy game in Talladega, but were struck with heavy front end damage on a green flag pit stop cycle. Honeycutt qualified 18th and finished there in stage one. In stage two, the No. 45 cycled to 13th, and following pit stops, they were leading the race. Unfortunately, when the race restarted after a large crash, the damage hindered his ability to stay in the lead pack. He was credited with 19th.
    • Owner Points Outlook: Heading into the 21st race of the season, the No. 45 team is slotted ninth in the owner points standings. Honeycutt’s 19th-place finish in Talladega was good enough to gain the team a spot in points, where they now are six markers ahead of Spire Motorsports’ No. 7 team in 10th.
    • Quoting Honeycutt: How much of a boost does winning the CARS Tour championship help your Truck Series efforts?

“I am extremely confident in what we have going to Homestead for this weekend with our Moore’s Venture Foods Chevrolet. After winning the CARS Tour Pro Late Model championship, I have even more confidence in myself for the rest of the year going with this No. 45 Niece group to win races. It’s been a couple years since I’ve gone to Homestead, but I know we will have a really solid truck to start off with for me to adapt quickly and practice and qualify up front to give us a chance to win. That’s all we were wanting to do for the rest of the year. This is a building year so we can have a lot of good notes going into 2025. I look forward to Friday and Saturday.”

    • Quoting Gould: Is there anything specifically that you can do setup-wise that help minimize your tire wear here?

“I think the biggest thing we can do is make sure that the truck is as balanced as possible. We want to try and have all four tires get to wear evenly here to get the most use out of them. Typically, we run less camber at Homestead to help with our longevity and speed throughout a full run.”

Kevin Harvick Inc. and Rackley W.A.R. Announce Partnership for 2025 Season

Kevin and Keelan Harvick Join Driver Line-up for Rackley W.A.R.

Harrisburg, N.C. (October 18, 2024) – Forging a new path, Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) and Rackley W.A.R. announced today a partnership for 2025 that will focus on continuing to build and elevate Rackley W.A.R.’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and Late Model programs. The partnership will bring together Rackley W.A.R. co-owners, Willie Allen and Curtis Sutton, with NASCAR Champion driver and owner, Kevin Harvick.

Through the partnership, both Kevin and Keelan Harvick will join the driver line up for Rackley W.A.R.’s Super Late Model and Pro Late Model programs. In addition, Harvick will serve as a consultant to Rackley W.A.R.’s Truck Series program where development driver Dawson Sutton will transition to full-time Truck Series competition in 2025.

“Although KHI had some success this year in the Late Model Stock world, the Pros and Supers are different animals,” Kevin Harvick said. “We still plan to have a presence in the CARS Tour next year, but Rackley W.A.R. has a solid and proven track record that will drastically improve the learning curve for Keelan and I in the Super and Pro Late Models. In return, I hope that my years of owning and operating a championship winning truck program will help shorten Dawson’s learning curve in his rookie truck season and positively impact their truck program. We look forward to working with Willie and the Sutton family in 2025.”

Led by co-owner and 2007 Truck Series Rookie of the Year and Nashville Fairgrounds 2015 Pro Late Model Track Champion Willie Allen, the Rackley W.A.R. driver development program has helped mold some of today’s biggest names in NASCAR and continues to provide a winning seat for the next generation of racers. Most recently, Dawson Sutton took over the driving duties of the No. 25 truck and earned his best finish in the series with a fifth-place finish at Kansas Speedway, while continuing to compete and win in Late Model competition. With a roster that has included 2024 Daytona 500 winner William Byron, Ross Chastain, Josh Berry, Timothy Peters and Connor Zilisch, the future of Rackley W.A.R.’s driver development and Late Model programs will only continue to grow as the organization adds both Kevin and Keelan Harvick to the list.

“Teaming up with Kevin Harvick is a game-changer for us at Rackley W.A.R.,” said Rackley W.A.R. co-owner Willie Allen. “His experience as a champion driver and owner brings an incredible amount of knowledge that will help elevate our truck program to the next level. Having Keelan and Kevin join our Late Model team next season is just as exciting. We’re not just building a partnership—we’re building a future. There’s no doubt this collaboration will drive success, and I couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead.”

Through the partnership, Harvick will bring decades of championship winning experience on and off the track to elevate Rackley W.A.R. to the next level of competition. Harvick’s knowledge of team ownership, his competitive nature, valuable racing knowledge and desire to win is unparalleled.

“It’s exciting to have this opportunity present itself,” said Curtis Sutton, co-owner of Rackley W.A.R. “In our fifth year as an organization, Rackley W.A.R. is taking strategic steps for a successful 2025 and beyond. Kevin is the first link of many more to come. He will help Willie and I guide the Late Model and NASCAR Truck Series team for long term success.

“As you strive to grow any business, you have to surround yourself with exceptional people and winners,” continued Sutton. “Kevin and his family have both traits. Kevin has been a winner in everything he has done. I know this is going to be a great partnership for Rackley W.A.R. and KHI’s employees, drivers, vendors, sponsor’s and all of our fans.”

The 2025 NASCAR Truck Series season kicks off at Daytona International Speedway on Friday, February 14, with Dawson Sutton starting his rookie campaign and first season of full-time NASCAR competition.

Kevin and Keelan Harvick’s Late Model schedule will be announced at a later date.

    Start: 32nd
    Stage 1: 36th
    Stage 2: 36th
    Finish: 36th
    Driver Points: 19th
    Owner Points: 24th

    • Key Takeaway: Bayley Currey and the No.
    • Bayley Currey’s Post-Race Thoughts: “The DQS / Masked Owl Silverado was really good today. We had all kinds of issues unfortunately. The guys had to change the engine out after qualifying, started dead last, but made our way into the top-15 in like five laps. We were moving forward on the top line, but ran over something and got a flat right front tire. Came down pit road, and when I went to leave, it snapped the pinion out of the gear. Unfortunate for sure. I really hate it for everyone on the No. 41 team. They busted their butts all week and today especially, and brought me a really good piece. I couldn’t be more proud of them. That’s racing, and we’ll go onto Miami.”
DQS Solutions & Staffing Mission Statement: The core mission of DQS Solutions & Staffing is to attain unparalleled excellence in our specialized domains, specifically staffing and security. Start: 8th
    Stage 1: 1st
    Stage 2: 16th
    Finish: 31st
    Driver Points: 23rd
    Owner Points: 26th

    • Key Takeaway: Matt Mills and the No.
    • Matt Mills’ Post-Race Thoughts: Interviewer: Matt, you led some laps early, what happened in that one?

“I got a quick replay right there, but I don’t know. I thought we were just going to kind of ride there, and then all the sudden someone threw a late block or whatever. The No. 75 truck kept acting like he had a problem or something. He kept jumping out of line there and maybe he had something going on with it. We kept stacking the top lane, and that wasn’t on him right there. That was just a block gone wrong there. Way too aggressive to just be riding. I don’t know what happened there, that was weird.

I just hate it for J.F. Electric and Utilitra. We were finally going to have a good day there. It’s been a lot of ups and down this year. The past five weeks have been nothing but down. I was hoping to pull something good out there. It was cool to get a stage win, so I can mark that off the bucket list. I was waiting to talk to Phil (Parsons) and Mikey (Waltrip) in the booth, but they didn’t want to talk to me. We’ll get ready for Homestead and try to find some momentum to put into next year.”

    Stage 1: 30th
    Stage 2: 23rd
    Finish: 17th
    Driver Points: 53rd
    Owner Points: 34th

    • Key Takeaway: Danny Bohn and the No. 44 Rust-Oleum team held in tough and survived as the lead Niece Motorsports entry after a hectic race at Talladega. Bohn qualified his truck in 28th and decided to hang back through most of the race. He finished 30th in stage one and moved up to 23rd in stage two. On the final restart when it was time to go, Bohn’s line fell back and lost the draft. The team was scored with a 17th-place finish for a second consecutive week.
    • Danny Bohn’s Post-Race Thoughts: “We played a smart race and I think we had a decent truck today. Ran outside the top-10 there for a while, and those last few restarts killed us. We restarted on the bottom in 11th and dropped back because the outside got a good run. I figured on that last restart, the outside would go, but the No. 88 didn’t get going. We ended up losing the draft, and were done for. We passed some trucks there at the end, but it stinks. You spend the whole race trying to put yourself into position at the end, and one bad restart by someone shuffles you out. Maybe something broke on his truck, I don’t know. They wrecked a bunch there at the end, so at least we can roll it in the trailer clean. Thanks to Rust-Oleum, AmeriFast Supply, and everyone on the No. 44 team. Good day for us.”

About Rust-Oleum: Rust-Oleum was founded on the principle of creating innovative products. In 1921, sea captain Robert Fergusson noticed that fish oil prevented rust from forming on his ship’s metal deck. Working with a chemist, Fergusson developed one of the world’s first rust-preventive paints and Rust-Oleum was born. Starting with just 24 colors of paint, Rust-Oleum has grown to be a global leader in manufacturing innovative coatings that empower do-it-yourselfers and professionals alike.

    Owner Points: 9th

    • Key Takeaway: Kaden Honeycutt and the No.
    • Kaden Honeycutt’s Post-Race Thoughts: “I decided to run in the back early because people were moving all over the place. Ran there for the most part of both stages, but the strategy was perfect in the third stage. We got cycled to the lead, but ended up getting nose damage from pitting. Unfortunately, we got hung out on the next restart, and on the last restart, we lost the draft because the nose was punched in. Everything kind of fell apart. We executed great in the last stage, but it just didn’t end up working out for us. Thank you to Al (Niece), Cody (Efaw), Lane (Moore) and Moore’s Venture Foods for the opportunity.”
