Alan on Last Race at Kansas Speedway: “It was nice to have a drama-free race Saturday night in Kansas. We battled with the balance of the truck for most of the race and in the end, I think we had a truck to battle with. Unfortunately, we had to put scuff tires on at the end of the race which made it a little difficult. But, a 17th-place finish in our AUTOParkit Silverado is a step in the right direction and I hope we can build on this momentum.”

Alan at Darlington Raceway: For the second week in a row, Alan will visit a track that he has more than one start at, a rare occurrence for the second-year full-time driver. In two starts at the Darlington Raceway, Alan has an average finish of 23.5 including a top-20 in 2022.

Alan on Friday’s Race at Darlington Raceway: “Darlington is a fun track with heavy tire fall-off and a true test of driver skill and equipment. I’m excited to go back again this weekend and hope to continue with the momentum we had from last year.”

Public Appearances: Lawless Alan will make an appearance at the Speediatrics Fun Day Festival at the NASCAR Experience activation in the midway at Darlington Raceway on Friday, May 12th from 5:45pm- 6:00pm.

On the Truck: The No. 45 Chevrolet Silverado will sport the AUTOParkit colors this weekend. AUTOParkit™ designs, manufactures, and constructs fully automated parking systems for new and existing buildings. AUTOParkit system structural steel and modular design can provide double the capacity of a traditional parking garage, providing up to 17 LEED points and drastically reducing construction time.

Darlington Throwback: Alan’s No. 45 AUTOParkit Chevrolet Silverado will sport a special throwback scheme on Friday night, with a tribute to the late Adam Petty. The AUTOParkit Chevy will don the same design as Petty’s 1999 Spree Chevrolet.

Kansas Recap: After putting down a practice time inside the top-10, Carson Hocevar qualified 20th, but quickly made up ground as the race progressed. The No. 42 team was able to move inside the top-10 for the majority of the event; even securing stage points in Stage One. Unfortunately, Hocevar’s day ended early as a crash with just over 50 laps to go took him out of contention for his second win of the season. The Michigan-born driver would go on to finish 31st.

Hocevar on Last Race at Kansas Speedway: “It was heartbreaking to show so much speed and end up in a crash, but that’s part of racing. I’m proud of our Worldwide Express team for battling throughout the night and giving me a fast Silverado to work with. We’ll pick up and try to make some noise in Darlington.”

Hocevar at Darlington Raceway: Hocevar has been close to victory in all of his starts at the historic Darlington Raceway. In three starts at the famed track, Hocevar has finished inside the top-three twice, with his worst finish being 11th in Fall 2021. Additionally, Hocevar captured stage points in both stages a year ago, including a Stage Two victory.

Hocevar on Friday’s Race at Darlington Raceway: “Darlington is a historic track and one of the toughest places we go to. Finishing so well the past two years brings me a lot of confidence at a place you need it most. It would be so cool to park this Worldwide Express Dale Jarrett throwback in victory lane at a place we’ve been so close at in the past.”

On the Truck: Hocevar’s No. 42 Worldwide Express Chevrolet Silverado will race with support from the WWEX group of brands, which comprises Worldwide Express, Unishippers and GlobalTranz, and offers full-service logistics expertise to more than 115,000 customers across the country.

We Love This Truck: Hocevar’s No. 42 Worldwide Express Chevrolet Silverado will throw back to Dale Jarrett’s iconic 2001 UPS livery at Darlington Raceway on Friday night.

Vote, Vote, Vote: Fans are encouraged to vote for their favorite throwback paint scheme at the following link: https://www.darlingtonraceway.com/paintschemevote/. Voting ends May 11 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

The No. 41 Truck Last Race at Kansas Speedway: Ross Chastain and the Worldwide Express No. 41 team battled adversity throughout the weekend with a power steering problem Saturday morning. The team was able to repair the truck, but were forced to start at the rear of the field to begin the Heart of America 200 at Kansas Speedway. Chastain was able to climb through the field and made his way into 16th before the halfway point in Stage One. Ultimately, Chastain made a late pass on Nick Sanchez to steal fifth-place and secure his second top-five in four starts this season.

Chastain at Darlington Raceway: In 104 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series starts, Chastain has only made one start at Darlington Raceway. But, in his lone start in 2022 at the 1.366-mile track, he led 46 laps, before a mechanical issue relegated him to a 26th-place finish. In that same race, Chastain finished second in both stages. In NASCAR Cup Series competition, Chastain has led laps in each of the last four visits to the track ‘Too Tough to Tame.

Chastain on Friday’s Race at Darlington Raceway: “I absolutely love coming to Darlington, especially when I get to race all three series. Thanks to Al and the boys and girls at Niece Motorsports – we expect to have the Worldwide Express Lee Petty throwback Silverado up-front all night.”

On the Truck: Chastain’s No. 41 Worldwide Express Chevrolet Silverado will race with support from the WWEX group of brands, which comprises Worldwide Express, Unishippers and GlobalTranz, and offers full-service logistics expertise to more than 115,000 customers across the country. Additionally, Buckle Up South Carolina will be on the door of Chastain’s truck Friday night to share the importance of safe driving and use of seatbelts in a motor vehicle.

SAD DADDY Hunting Blinds will be the Primary Sponsor for Boyd at Darlington

Mooresville, NC (May 9, 2023) – NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Spencer Boyd announced that long-time associate sponsor, SAD DADDY Hunting Blinds will have their own paint scheme for the May 12 race at Darlington Raceway. SAD DADDY Hunting Blinds was on board for Boyd’s first win at Talladega in 2019.

“This one has special meaning,” remarked Boyd. “SAD DADDY has been supporting me for years so I’m excited to see their neon green deer skull finally make it to my truck’s hood. Joey took me and my dad hunting and he has become a trusted friend over the years. Sometimes people think sponsors are just stickers on a race car. There are people behind those stickers and the people behind these SAD DADDY stickers are hardworking, honest, God-fearing, salt of the earth people. I’m honored they choose to support me.”

SAD DADDY prides themselves in building a quality, 100% American made hunting blind. Each of their blinds provides optimal comfort and shelter in some of the harshest hunting conditions. At SAD DADDY Hunting Blinds they strongly believe in God and family values. They are extremely honored to build a product that promotes spending time with family and carrying on the great tradition of hunting.

The term sad daddy is one of the many words to describe a big buck in the hunting world.

The Founder and Owner of SAD DADDY Hunting Blinds, Joey Bruce, commented on the partnership, “I’m very humbled that our company is at a point where we can have our name on the hood of a NASCAR Truck. At SAD DADDY hunting blinds, we are dedicated to quality, affordability, and most of all, customer satisfaction. We know Spencer and his team share similar values and that is why we align so well, outside of similar interests of hunting and racing. I do have to say, ‘sorry not sorry’ that we didn’t want to do a throwback truck. We HAD to have our unique brand out there for our first race!”

SAD DADDY Hunting Blinds & Feeders are now available in over 43 dealer locations throughout the southeast.

The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Darlington Raceway on Friday, May 12, 2023 airs live on FS1 at 7:30pm ET.

Zane Smith and the No. 38 RTA gigFAST INTERNET® Darlington Raceway Competition Notes

    TEAM AND RACE NOTES:

Zane Smith and the No. 38 RTA gigFAST INTERNET® Ford team heads to the Darlington (S.C.) Raceway for the Buckle Up South Carolina 200. Friday night’s race will be the first for the RTA gigFAST INTERNET colors this season.

RTA – Rural Telecommunications of America, Inc. provides gigFAST INTERNET, VOICE and TV to America’s rural communities. The company was founded in 2018 by Jim Edwards and Don Workman to bring gigFAST INTERNET to America’s rural communities to help bridge the “digital divide”. The company is veteran owned as Workman served in the United States Air Force.

While many internet providers mention gig speeds, RTA created the gigometer to measure your internet speed. You can check yours at www.gigometer.net.

RTA now has customers in 22 states and has been involved with NASCAR since 2020 with Smith.

Smith and the RTA gigFAST Ford will take on the “Lady in Black” starting with practice and qualifying on Friday at 3:05 p.m. ET.

The 200-mile race is set for 7:30 p.m. ET that evening.

    COMPETITION NOTES:

After finishing third at the Kansas Speedway, Smith and the No. 38 RTA gigFAST Ford team now lead the regular season championship standings.

Smith has four previous starts at the Darlington Raceway with a best finish of eighth. In fact, Darlington is one of only four active NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series tracks that the 2022 champion does not have a top-five at.

The team is looking to change that this Friday night.

    CREW CHIEF CHRIS LAWSON:

“One of the biggest things for us to focus on this weekend is tire wear. Darlington is brutal when it comes to tires. Our pit strategy and tire management is going to play a huge role this weekend.

“We look at all the tracks that we have raced at with Zane and Darlington is one track where we want to give him a better finish. Really, we can win it if we do the right things on Friday night.”

    DRIVER ZANE SMITH:

“I had a top-10 there last spring, but I know we can win this weekend with the gigometer on the hood. I think it would be cool to have a top-five finish at every track in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series. There are a few we need to check off that list.

“I cannot thank RTA enough for their support. They have been great partners of mine suppling gigFAST INTERNET to our team and we just continue to grow.”

GMS Racing NCTS Race Recap: Kansas Speedway I

Grant Enfinger, No. 23 Chevy Military Appreciation Chevrolet Silverado RST

    START: 11TH
    FINISH: 1ST
    POINTS: 5TH

Post-Race Quote: Grant Enfinger, you have been so close here in the past at Kansas, what was different for you tonight with this dominant win?

“Kansas has been a good track for us, but we haven’t had a dominant truck like this in a long time. Jeff Hensley did this for me a few years ago. But lights out, we had the best Chevy Silverado out here. Thank you to Champion Power Equipment for sticking with me. It’s been a dismal year and a half. I know we came up with a win last year but overall, the season has been a little sluggish. Our first seven races was a little sluggish. I was disappointed in our execution, but Jeff talked to me before the race and gave me some encouragement. He did a heckuva job tonight but the biggest thing was these guys brought me an unbelievable Chevy Silverado. Thank you to GM and their Military Appreciation Initiative. It’s pretty special, we’ve got a red white and blue truck so definitely very very cool. Thank you to Dayne and everyone at Chevrolet, thank you to Dennis Trine, Todd, Marty, everybody at Champion Power Equipment that’s stuck with me. I definitely think this team is capable of doing this each and every week and I’m glad we sealed the deal today.”

Grant, can you break down the pass that you made with about 30 laps to go? You did a two for a pass, passed two guys for the lead. Walk me through that.

“You know Zane helped me out there they side drafted each other a little bit there, but at the end of the day, what made that pass possible was we had the best truck out here so thank you to Jeff Hensley, everyone at the fab shop, Jerry, GMS Fabrication, everybody that’s worked so hard on these things. I don’t think we’ve truly showed it but a few times in the year and a half I’ve been over here, but we’re going to show a lot more of it this year. They got side-by-side, and made it a little bit easier on us, but I feel like we had the best truck anyway.”

Rajah Caruth, No. 24 Wendell Scott Foundation Chevrolet Silverado RST

    START: 13TH
    FINISH: 34TH
    POINTS: 17TH

Post-Race Quote: You told me what you may lack in experience in this field, you more than make up for it in passion and work ethic. Can you assign fault on this one?

“Yeah, I mean it was really close. We had a long way to go. Our No. 24 Wendell Scott Foundation Silverado was really good. I was trying to cover the top and he just kind of hooked me there. Good to know. I didn’t double-move or anything. I picked the top there and he just hooked me.

It really stinks. Our No. 24 Wendell Scott Foundation Silverado was really sporty tonight. We were going to be in a really good spot there. We were one of the first few guys on tires to go and make those guys look like they were sitting still. We had a really fast truck tonight and it sucks to not get a result for GMS Racing, BUTLERBuilt seats, Bell racing, Alpine Stars, Competition Cleaning and Shady Rays.”

Daniel Dye, No. 43 Race To Stop Suicide Chevrolet Silverado RST

    START: 10TH
    FINISH: 13TH
    POINTS: 20TH

Post-Race Quote: “Yeah, it was a good race for sure. Pretty good showing for our Race to Stop Suicide No. 43 GMS Chevy. Pretty cool to see Grant Enfinger the No. 23 team get the win. Looking forward to going to Darlington.”

    NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series
    Heart of America 200 | Saturday, May 6, 2023

    Ford Finishing Results:
    3rd – Zane Smith
    11th – Matt Crafton
    12th – Hailie Deegan
    16th – Ben Rhodes
    19th – Johnny Sauter
    24th – Josh Reaume
    25th – Ty Majeski
    27th – Mason Maggio

ZANE SMITH, No. 38 Love’s/Speedco Ford F-150 (Finished 3rd) – FROM THE FIRST TO LAST STAGE, YOU ENGAGED IN SOME INTENSE BATTLES FOR CONTENTION. WHAT CONTRIBUTING FACTORS HELPED? “There were a lot of people out there who shouldn’t have been out there. But, the pit crew did a fantastic job of always getting us track position. Just couldn’t really choose the right lane there, and that final restart, just probably should have protected the bottom a little bit better. Just didn’t think he was going to be able to clear me while we were wide-open. It is what it is. Fast forward: Kind of gave it to the No. 23 there.”

WHAT WAS THE PIT STRATEGY IN STAGE 1, WHEN YOU STAYED OUT DURING THE PIT CYCLE? “I don’t think we assumed that many people would come down. But, it worked out for us. I hate to see the other Ford have a bad day, Ty [Majeski]’s day. But, we fortunately capitalized on stage points and had a good day at the end of the day. So, it was a good points day.”

MATT CRAFTON, No. 88 Black Label Bacon/Menards Ford F-150 (Finished 11th) – “All-in-all, it was a pathetic day from the start – from practice, to qualifying 21st, to having an oil leak and going the wrong way on adjustments. We were off on the balance all night. It’s the worst we’ve ever been here at Kansas for whatever reason. We know we had a little bit of different stuff than we’ve had in the past. We’ll keep going. Keep fighting.”

HAILIE DEEGAN, No. 13 Dible Dough Ford F-150 (Finished 12th) – WHERE DOES THIS PERFORMANCE STACK-UP IN YOUR SEASON SO FAR? “Kansas has been one of those tracks that I’ve always liked. I’ve always felt pretty confident moving around here, and knowing what I need – how to start and finish it, and how the trucks transition at nighttime. I think it’s just because I’ve done a lot of races here compared to other tracks. Overall, I think we had a pretty solid day. I used up my stuff trying to race down the No. 16 and the No. 88. They were battling with each other, drawing one another back. I saw it as an opportunity for me to jump on it, and I used up my stuff a little bit getting there. Then, I got put behind a lapped car that was on the bottom, got sandwiched there, and lost my momentum. Just from there, I couldn’t get back to them. It wasn’t turning as well – a little worn out. It is what it is. Overall, pretty solid day. There were a lot of guys that weren’t able to finish that were in front of us in points. So, I think it was overall a good points day.”

BEN RHODES, No. 99 Bommarito Ford F-150 (Finished 16th) – WAS YOUR STAGE 1 PERFORMANCE REASSURING, LEADING 17 LAPS AND BATTLING FOR THE WIN? “We had a truck that could have won today. Our Bommarito Auto Group F-150 was phenomenal – one of the best trucks I’ve had all year. One of the best trucks I’ve had in a long time. So, we’re finding innovations with our notebook and this program, getting better and better. We showed a lot of strength tonight. It’s just a shame Kyle Busch knocked the wall down and involved us in… whatever that was. Ruined our night completely. There was nothing we could have done to avoid it. We were on the same strategy as the race winning team tonight, and as we were both coming through the field, he was in a different situation and I was in the wrong spot. When Busch lost control of his truck, it just collected us. What do you do, right? You think you’re following somebody who is going to be good and not wreck their stuff. We just can never seem to finish one of these out. It seems like no matter what, I’m in the wrong place at the wrong time. Focusing on the beginning of the race, we had a lot of strengths and even with the terrible finish, we were still able to explore things under pit-stops with the truck, and we can still notebook off of that. So, that is some good news.”

TY MAJESKI, No. 98 Road Ranger Ford F-150 (Finished 25th) – WHAT HAPPENED IN THE INCIDENT WITH THE NO. 24? “We had a good truck. We got back up front there with a little bit of strategy. Thought we may have made a wrong adjustment when we were racing the No. 24 there. He was ultra aggressive blocking. So, he blocked once, then twice, and I had a run and he was a little late.”

WHAT WAS CLICKING DURING YOUR STAGE 2 VICTORY? “Yeah, we weren’t very good the first run – missed our balance from practice a little bit, and we got a good adjustment and we had two-lap fresher tires than everyone else, which made the truck better. It was a combination of both things – having a little bit fresher tires, but also making those adjustments. Overall, I think we had a good, capable truck to win tonight. It just wasn’t meant to be.”

    TOYOTA QUOTES

COREY HEIM, No. 11 Safelite Auto Glass Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, TRICON Garage

    Finishing Position: 2nd

What more did you need in that last stage?
“I think that last caution put a hole in our strategy a little bit. If we had that last run go green and we had the same tires as the 23 (Grant Enfinger), I thought we could beat him straight up. As soon as we got that last caution and we were on uneven tires, I knew it was going to be all track position. I got hung up trying to block the 38 (Zane Smith) and kind of took a step back from there and lost track position. Huge thank you to TRICON Garage, Toyota Racing, Safelite, everyone who makes it happen. We’ve been working really hard on our mile-and-a-half program and we have already taken a big leap in a short period of time.”

STEWART FRIESEN, No. 52 Halmar International Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, Halmar Friesen Racing

    Finishing Position: 4th

How happy are you with the performance tonight?

“Yeah, this is what we needed. We need a solid run. Just had a little bit of a slow stop there at the end. We lost some track position, but great Tundra TRD Pro. Big thanks to Chris (Larsen, team owner), big thanks to Halmar, big thanks to all of our guys. Just really, really proud of our guys tonight. We have something we can build on. We are back in it. It feels good.”

TONI BREIDINGER, No. 1 Victoria’s Secret Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, TRICON Garage

    Finishing Position: 15th

What did you take away from today?

“There was so much to take away. There was so much thrown on me that I haven’t got to experience before – just the aero, and being in dirty air. I feel like you experience that in ARCA, but in Trucks its amplified a million times. That was a hole new experience. I feel like everyone is really good out here. I could feel everyone side-drafting me. Nobody gives an inch. There’s a massive learning curve, but I finished a clean race and it was pretty solid in my Victoria’s Secret Tundra.”

Did you talk to anyone on what to expect?

“I bugged all of my teammates. I texted Tanner (Gray) last night, I was bugging Corey (Heim) this morning. I was talking to Dean (Thompson) all day today. I definitely asked them as many questions as possible.”

What did you take away from those discussions?

“Everyone just says drive the heck out of it. The harder you drive, the better the truck will feel. I feel like I took that away from them.”

Daniel Dye Gives a Nod to “The King” with Richard Petty Throwback Paint Scheme

STATESVILLE, NC (May 5th, 2023): GMS Racing and Race To Stop Suicide are proud to unveil a fitting NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series throwback paint scheme to be driven by Daniel Dye at Darlington Raceway next weekend.

This paint scheme needs no introduction, as it represents one of the most recognizable and iconic vehicles in NASCAR’s 75-year history, paying tribute to Richard Petty’s STP car. Petty dominated the 1970’s running these colors, winning a combined 50 races from the inception of the STP relationship in 1972 through the end of the decade. This specific version on Dye’s truck is replicating the 1976 iteration, which won three times and finished runner up in the championship.

Those who are familiar with Daniel’s career are used to seeing him carry the iconic No. 43, and there is a good reason for that – the Petty’s have been close family friends with the Dye’s for several years now. His father, Randy Dye, raced with that number in the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series ranks throughout his driving career in the 1990’s and 2000’s at New Smyrna Speedway. Once it became time for Daniel to begin his career, he personally asked for Richard’s blessing to race the number, and it has stuck with him (for the most part) ever since.

Continuing with the theme of Mental Health Awareness Month, Dye will continue to promote the Race To Stop Suicide initiative as the primary sponsor on his No. 43 Chevrolet. The nonprofit was founded by the father-son duo in 2018, and has been one of the pillars of Daniel’s professional and philanthropic career. Fans can learn more about the cause by visiting www.racetostopsuicide.com.

“It’s super cool to run a throwback scheme that honors Richard Petty. I’ve raced the No. 43 ever since I started racing Quarter Midgets, so to honor him on a national scale is a great opportunity. I am very appreciative of what Richard and the entire Petty family have done for me throughout the years, and look forward to showing my respect to all of the greatness that he achieved in our sport in its 75th anniversary.” exclaimed Dye.

The NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series returns to Darlington Raceway for its annual highly anticipated “Throwback” race on Friday, May 12th. Live coverage of the Buckle Up South Carolina 200 will be broadcasted on FOX Sports 1 (TV), the Motor Racing Network (Radio), and Sirius XM NASCAR (Channel 90) at 7:30 PM ET. Follow GMS Racing on social media for more updates and announcements.
