  • Chase Purdy- No. 4 Bama Buggies Silverado Craftsman Trucks Bristol Dirt Preview

Chase Purdy- No. 4 Bama Buggies Silverado Craftsman Trucks Bristol Dirt Preview

Chase Purdy: Driver, No. 4 Bama Buggies Chevrolet

    NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Overview:
Event: Weather Guard Truck Race on Dirt, Race 6 of 23, 150 Laps – 40/50/60; 75 Miles
Location: Bristol Motor Speedway (half-mile, dirt oval)
    Date/Broadcast: April 8, 2023, at 8 p.m. ET on FS1, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR 90

    ‘Chase’n Checkers:

Chase Purdy slides into the truck race on dirt at Bristol Motor Speedway riding the momentum of a career-best runner-up finish in last week’s race at Texas Motor Speedway. For Purdy, it marked the first time that he finished inside the top five of a Truck Series event. Prior to Texas, his best finish across his first 56 starts was a sixth-place result at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway in 2021. Despite being only five races into the season, the 23-year-old driver has already produced a career-high three top-10 finishes. He currently ranks seventh in the series point standings, 58 tallies behind points leader Ty Majeski. He ranks sixth among series regulars in average finish (12.2), seventh in fastest laps run (12) eighth in average running position (13.086) and ninth in driver rating (78.8).

In his two prior Truck Series starts on the dirt at Bristol, Purdy has recorded an average finish of 15.5. His best result was a 13th-place finish in last year’s race. The 4 team will be unloading KBM-35, which is the chassis that John Hunter Nemechek raced in both dirt events last year, finishing third at Bristol and second at Knoxville Raceway.

The Mississippi native is in his third full-time season in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and first with KBM. He enters Saturday’s race having totaled one top-five, eight top-10 finishes, and 18 laps led across his 57 career Truck Series starts. Purdy finished 16th in the Truck Series final standings in 2022 after competing in 22 of the 23 events. He posted two top-10 finishes and nine laps led, with a season-best finish of seventh coming at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway in October.

Purdy will be trying to etch his mark in the KBM historical archives this weekend at Bristol as he looks to collect the organization’s 100th NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series victory. KBM-owner driver Kyle Busch collected KBM’s record-extending 99th-career victory with his dominant victory at Las Vegas Motor Speedway leaving his organization one shy of the century mark. William Byron collected KBM’s record-breaking 51st Truck Series victory in July of 2016. Overall, 18 different drivers have won at least one race behind the wheel of a KBM truck, led by Busch’s 47. Four drivers rank second on the list with seven victories: Byron, Christopher Bell, Erik Jones and John Hunter Nemechek. KBM has collected three of those victories on dirt, most recently with Martin Truex Jr. at Bristol in 2021. Bubba Wallace (2014) and Bell (2015) each scored victories at Eldora Speedway when that was a stop on the Truck Series schedule.

Jimmy Villeneuve is atop the pit box for Purdy and the No. 4 Chevrolet team this season. Prior to being promoted to crew chief for the 2023 season, Villeneuve served as a Truck Chief at KBM since the 2017 season and in that role was a part of 18 wins, a driver’s championship with Christopher Bell in 2017 and the 2019 owner’s championship with the No. 51 team. Prior to joining KBM the New Hampshire native served as a truck chief at Athenian Motorsports in 2015 when the team won with John Wes Townley at Las Vegas. He was promoted to crew chief five races into the 2016 season. Saturday’s race will be Villeneuve’s second race atop the pit box for a dirt race. He finished 21st with Brady Boswell at Eldora Speedway in 2016.

Bama Buggies, your one-stop shop for all the biggest names in powersports and utility vehicles, will be the primary sponsor on Purdy’s No. 4 Chevrolet Saturday and for the majority of the events on the 2023 schedule. They are Central Alabama’s powersports experts, serving as an authorized dealer of Polaris, Slingshot, and Seadoo.
    Chase Purdy, Driver Q&A:

What are your thoughts on racing on the dirt at Bristol?
“It’s interesting to say the least. I’m not exactly sure what to expect this year because I don’t think there has been as many races that have been run on it since the dirt has been put down as there was the last two years. I think that will make it interesting to see how the track is run in and takes rubber and what lines we can use. I’m not really sure what to expect with our Bama Buggies team but coming off a great weekend at Texas I’m really excited to get back to the track.”

Do you anything different in your preparation for a race on dirt?
“Yeah, I think you kind of just throw a lot of the things you would tend to do on asphalt tracks out the window here. There are some guys in the series you can talk to that are dirt guys like Stewart Friesen or anyone else that has run in dirt. Stewart is a good one because he’s run a truck a lot on dirt and he races dirt cars all the time when the trucks aren’t racing. I just think you have to go back and watch the previous years races to study because that’s all you have.”

    Chase Purdy Career Highlights:

    • Across 57 career Truck Series starts, has produced 18 laps led, one top-five and seven top-10 finishes. Posted a career-best runner-up finish at Texas Motor Speedway in April of 2023.
    • Finished 16th in Truck Series championship standings in 2022.
    • Finished fourth in the 2018 ARCA Menard’s Series championship standings after recording 84 laps led, 10 top-five and 14 top-10 finishes.
    • Earned the 2017 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East rookie of the year honors and finished fourth in the championship standings after posting four poles, 200 laps led, five top-five and eight top-10 finishes across 14 starts.
    • Won the prestigious Snowflake 100 Pro Late Model race at 5 Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Fla., in Dec. of 2018.

Chase Purdy’s No. 4 Chevrolet Silverado RST:

KBM-35: The No. 4 Bama Buggies team will unload KBM-35 for Saturday’s race on the dirt at Bristol. This is the same truck that John Hunter Nemechek finished inside the top five at both dirt events last year, including a third-place finish at Bristol. Before being converted to a dirt truck last year, KBM-35 had one win across 17 pavement starts, which came with Daniel Suarez at Phoenix Raceway in November of 2016.

    KBM-35 Performance Profile:
    KBM Notes of Interest:

    • KBM drivers has scored three wins, one pole, 495 laps led, 10 top-five and 17 top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 12.7 across 32 career starts on dirt tracks. Martin Truex Jr. won the inaugural race on the dirt at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2021, while Bubba Wallace (2014) and Christopher Bell (2015) each scored victories at Eldora Speedway.
    • KBM holds the Craftsman Truck Series records for most career wins (99) and most wins in a single season (14 in 2014). With his victory at Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway last year, Corey Heim became the 18th different driver to win a Truck Series event for KBM. In addition to collecting a series-record seven Owner’s Championships, the organization has produced two championship-winning drivers: Erik Jones (2015) and Christopher Bell (2017).
    • The No. 4 has 18 career victories at KBM and was the number for both of the organization’s driver championships.
  • Zane Smith and the No. 38 Speedco Ford F-150 Team Bristol Dirt Competition Notes

Zane Smith and the No. 38 Speedco Ford F-150 Team Bristol Dirt Competition Notes

Zane Smith and the No. 38 Speedco Ford Team

    Bristol Motor Speedway Competition Notes

    TEAM AND RACE NOTES:

Zane Smith and the No. 38 Speedco Ford F-150 team head to Tennessee to take on the dirt covered Bristol Motor Speedway (BMS) this weekend.

Action starts on Friday with two practice sessions followed by four, 15-lap heat races to determine the starting lineup on Saturday afternoon.

The Weather Guard Truck Race on Dirt will take place Saturday at 8:00 p.m. ET on FS1.

Smith is taking the Speedco colors with him again this weekend. He has two wins and a second-place result this year with the Love’s Travel Stops/Speedco branding.

    COMPETITION NOTES:

After being wrecked while taking the lead at the Texas Motor Speedway in the SpeedyCash.com 250 this past weekend, the team is ready to rebound.

With two wins and a second-place finish in the first five races, Smith and crew have the speed they need to race up front. This weekend, however, is a curveball with the clay dirt covering the high-banked oval.

Smith has run two races on dirt at BMS with two top-10 results- a seventh and 10th.

    CREW CHIEF CHRIS LAWSON:

“We approach the race just like any other, but we have to prepare the truck differently. You are preparing for dirt and trying to get the truck to roll through the turns.

“It’s just tough to predict what the track conditions will be like. It’s a challenging race.”

    DRIVER ZANE SMITH:

“We’ve had good results, but not great. I’m still learning every time I get on the dirt at Bristol. It’s not something that we do each week. I’m just trying to get the best speed that I can. Chris (Lawson) and the guys have always had a good truck for me. I just want get a good finish and move onto other races where we know we are really strong at.”

Hensley and I have been solid on the dirt in the past and My No. 23 Champion Power Equipment team has put in a lot of effort these past few weeks. • Chassis History/Info: Rajah Caruth and the No. 24 team will compete with GMS Racing chassis no. 136 at Bristol Motor Speedway. This Chevrolet Silverado RST has two dirt races on its resume, both coming in 2021 with Zane Smith as its driver. At Bristol that year, Smith drove it to a seventh place finish, and followed it up with a 14th place run at Knoxville Raceway later that season. It was not used for competition in 2022.
    • Dirt Modified Seat Time: A couple of weeks ago, Rajah Caruth had the opportunity to hop behind the wheel of a Dirt Modified at Friendship Motor Speedway to get some laps under his belt before heading to Bristol Motor Speedway. Caruth turned several laps throughout the day with fellow teammate, Daniel Dye, along with LEGACY MOTOR CLUB drivers Erik Jones and Noah Gragson in preparation for this weekend’s event.
    • Sunoco Rookie Battle: A mid-race issue at Texas Motor Speedway set Rajah Caruth back slightly in the Sunoco Rookie of the Year points battle. Caruth had to make a green flag pitstop due to a cut tire which led him to have contact with the outside wall, forcing Rajah to settle for a 19th place result in Fort Worth. Entering this weekend’s event at Bristol Motor Speedway, Caruth is third in the standings, 59 points behind rookie leader, Nick Sanchez, and 17 points behind second place, Jake Garcia.

“I’m really excited, honestly, to give Bristol Dirt a shot this weekend. I’ve done a handful of dirt races over the past year, with some starts at Millbridge, and both of the ARCA Menards Series races at Springfield and DuQuoin last summer were a lot of fun. I know we will have a lot of pace with our Wendell Scott Foundation Chevy Silverado, and I’m going to use lessons that Lightning McQueen and Doc Hudson have taught me – ‘Turn right to go left’. I’ve gotta look up some more quotes from that movie for this weekend, but definitely will rely on some of those lessons for sure.”

    • From the Driver’s Seat: What experiences from racing an ARCA car on dirt do you think will translate to racing a truck on dirt?

“The ARCA races on dirt were pretty crazy last year, taking a heavy stock car and racing it around a couple of horse racing tracks was a unique experience, but I don’t think that experience is going to hurt us on Friday and Saturday for what we have going on at Bristol. It’s going to be a weird experience for me; I’ve raced on the concrete at Bristol a couple of times before in a Late Model and in an ARCA car, but it’s going to be completely different on the dirt. I’m looking forward to competing there in the CRAFTSMAN Truck Series with our No. 43 Chevrolet, it’ll be a new challenge for sure.”

  • Chase Briscoe Joins AM Racing for NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series Race on Dirt at Bristol

Chase Briscoe Joins AM Racing for NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series Race on Dirt at Bristol

STATESVILLE, N.C.: Officials from AM Racing confirmed today that NASCAR Cup Series driver Chase Briscoe will pilot the team’s No. 22 Ford F-150 in Saturday night’s WEATHER GUARD Truck Race on Dirt at the famed Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway.

Briscoe, a native of Mitchell, Ind. will return to the Truck Series for the first time since the 2021 season while also returning to competition on the dirt in an F-150 at the historic half-mile since finishing fifth in the inaugural Pinty’s Truck Race On Dirt in March 2021.

“I’m really excited for this opportunity with AM Racing and Production Alliance Group,” said Briscoe, driver of the No. 14 Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series.

“I always look forward to the Bristol dirt weekend and to be able to get on track twice as much and feel things out will be a lot of fun and, I hope, really beneficial. I know everyone at AM Racing has worked hard to get the truck ready and I think it’s anyone’s race when it comes to the dirt events.

“I got the chance to run Bristol a few years ago, and I’ve run the truck race at Knoxville, so I’ve got a good idea of how the truck itself will act on dirt. It’ll really just come down to how the track surface changes and whether things can stay green for long enough to make a move.

“I love going back to the truck series so hopefully I’ll be able to pick up my second dirt win in a truck this weekend.”

Longtime Briscoe partner and Tustin, Calif.-based Production Alliance Group (PAG) will serve as the primary marketing partner for the seventh NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series race of the season.

Production Alliance Group (PAG) is a premium live event and creative development company that works with the top names and brands in both the corporate and entertainment industries. PAG brings creative excellence and relevant execution to every opportunity, big or small. PAG engages and collaborates with its customers and industry partners and together create experiences that move and impressions that last.

In addition to PAG, Elliott’s Custom Trailers & Carts will serve as a major associate marketing partner on Briscoe’s No. 22 Production Alliance Group Ford F-150.

Elliott’s Custom Trailers & Carts, a woman-owned business headquartered in Warsaw, Ind., is the leading retailer of Alumitech, ATC, Featherlite, Haulmark, inTech, United Trailers, Bolt Custom Motorcoachs and E-Z-Go Golf Carts.

They serve and ship to locations in the United States and Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Their team can have your brand-new trailer or golf cart delivered right to your front door, anywhere in the United States!

“Providing racing families and fans with the best trailer and custom cart options is the core of our business,” offered Cindy Elliott, owner of Elliott’s Custom Trailers and Carts. “As NASCAR returns to dirt at Bristol Motor Speedway, we’re excited to partner with AM Racing and Chase Briscoe for the opportunity to showcase Elliott’s Custom Trailers and Carts in NASCAR.

“The foundation of Elliott’s Custom Trailers & Carts was built on a passion for short track racing, by a racing family. This partnership is the perfect fit. We can’t wait to see Chase Briscoe behind the wheel of the AM racing No. 22 truck on the track and his custom Elliott’s golf cart around the track.”

Briscoe cut his teeth racing on the dirt tracks of Southern Indiana, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. The third-generation racer’s first time behind the wheel of a racecar came in 2001 driving a quarter midget. He won his first heat race and the feature event later that evening. Briscoe moved on to mini sprints and, when he was 13, stepped into a 410 sprint car. In his first race, he finished 10th in a 40-car field.

Briscoe made the transition from dirt to stock car racing at the age of 19 but has since stuck to his roots by competing in a handful of dirt racing events each year, and he consistently added to the win column.

In addition to his experience at the Bristol Motor Speedway Dirt Track, the 28-year-old has made three Truck Series starts on the dirt track at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio.

He finished no worse than seventh in each and earned the win in the 2018 event, starting from third and leading a total of 54 laps en route to capturing the event’s Golden Shovel trophy in his only Truck Series start of the season in the No. 27 Ford.

“AM Racing is thrilled to have Chase Briscoe behind the wheel of our No. 22 Production Alliance Group | Elliott’s Custom Trailers & Carts Ford F-150 at Bristol,” said AM Racing president Wade Moore. “We started putting the wheels in motion about having Chase drive for us at Bristol right around Daytona and once we knew he was interested, we have been steadily preparing for this race.

“Chase is a talented race car driver but his experience and feedback on dirt will be a huge asset to our organization as we chase our first career win in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series. Without a doubt, we believe Chase will not only put our team in contention, but he will have an opportunity to also win his third career Truck Series race.”

  • Jonathan Davenport to Wheel Spire Motorsports No. 7 Chevy Silverado at Bristol Motor Speedway

Jonathan Davenport to Wheel Spire Motorsports No. 7 Chevy Silverado at Bristol Motor Speedway

CONCORD, N.C. (April 3, 2023) – Spire Motorsports announced today dirt late model racing standout Jonathan Davenport will pilot the team’s No. 7 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS) Chevrolet Silverado in Saturday night’s WEATHER GUARD Truck Race on Dirt at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Nutrien Ag Solutions is the primary sponsor for Davenport’s NCTS effort. He is also scheduled to make his first NASCAR Cup Series start in Sunday’s Food City Dirt Race at the famed half-mile oval for Kaulig Racing.

Davenport, widely known as “Superman” on the dirt late model racing scene, further cemented his legacy as one of the sport’s all-time greats by collecting a $1 million dollar payday last June when he captured the checkered flag at the Eldora Million at Eldora (Ohio) Speedway.

“I’m really excited to run for Spire Motorsports in the truck race and make one of the biggest weekends of my racing career even bigger,” said Davenport. “Being able to get in a truck for a team that has proven they can get it done will only boost my confidence for the weekend. With the added track time in the Nutrien Ag Solutions No. 7 Silverado, hopefully it’ll shorten my learning curve for both races.”

The Blairsville, Ga., native is a three-time Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series Champion (2015,2018,2019) and the 2022 XR Super Series titlist. Last season, Davenport made 81 starts and surpassed the $2 million mark in season earnings. He is a two-time Bristol winner in dirt late model competition.

“We’re thrilled to have Jonathan Davenport in our truck at Bristol,” said crew chief Kevin “Bono” Manion. “To be able to prepare our truck and work with a someone as accomplished as JD is a tremendous opportunity for Spire Motorsports. We expect to race for wins every time we unload and having JD in the seat Saturday night at Bristol raises the bar a little bit higher.”

The WEATHER GUARD Truck Race on Dirt will be televised live on FS1 Saturday, April 8 beginning at 8 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). The race will be broadcast live on the Performance Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90. Heat races will be televised live on FS1 beginning at 4:30 p.m. EDT.

On Saturday’s Race at Texas Motor Speedway: “We were able to show speed, battle back from adversity, and run a clean race for the most part until the end. A mostly-smooth day was what this team needed and we’ll see how that helps the mindset going into Bristol Dirt next week.”

Coming so close to a career-best finish a week ago in COTA had Lawless Alan’s confidence at a high moving into Texas. Alan qualified 18th on Saturday morning allowing him to run inside the top-20 for a majority of the 250-mile race.

Unfortunately, Alan battled a poor-handling truck for most of the event, forcing him to fall back on long green flag runs. But, the No. 45 team was able to make changes all-day with air pressure and wedge adjustments to work himself inside the top-15 late in the running. Ultimately, Alan finished Stage One and Stage Two in 22nd and 23rd, respectively.

As the race neared the end, chaos ensued as many of the leader would find trouble, allowing Alan to pass them with ease. Through these cautions, Alan was able to receive the free pass to regain lead-lap positioning. But, as the race continued to wind down, Alan lost control of his Silverado, hitting the inside wall with less than five laps remaining. In the end, Alan would finish 18th and moved to 23rd in the Driver’s Championship standings.

Chastain on Saturday’s Race at Texas Motor Speedway: “Obviously days like today aren’t ideal. But, I’m glad one of our Worldwide Express trucks were able to park it in victory lane. I’m so thankful for the support from GlobalTranz to give me this opportunity and I can’t wait for the next one.”

With a lack of practice time due to frequent cautions in the 30-minute session, Chastain had just few laps under his belt before strapping for a qualifying run. Ultimately, the watermelon farmer would line up 22nd in his first CRAFTSMAN Truck Series start of the season.

Unfortunately for Chastain, his race was over before it truly began as a turn-two incident on the opening lap would create heavy damage, forcing him behind the wall just a few laps into the SpeedyCash.com 250.

Though Saturday’s race for Chad Chastain drew an early end after a lap one incident, it didn’t dampen the spirits of the Florida driver. Rather, it gives him more motivation than ever to make the most of his next opportunity.

Carson Hocevar Earns his First NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Victory at Texas Motor Speedway

FORT WORTH, Texas (April 1, 2023) – Carson Hocevar earned his first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series victory Saturday evening at Texas Motor Speedway in a wild overtime finish at the 1.5-mile track.

“I’m so thankful to everyone at Niece Motorsports for all of their hard work on this Worldwide Express Chevrolet,” said Hocevar. “This is such a huge race for our team owner Al [Niece] and our partners at WWEX Racing.

To punch our ticket to the playoffs this early in the season is a huge deal, and it means a lot that so many of our partners were here to see it. I’m so appreciative to everyone that’s supported me along the way. I feel like this win was a long time coming. We’ve lost a lot of races with the fastest truck, and today we were able to hang around and capitalize at the end.”

The win comes in Hocevar’s 59th NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series start. His previous best finish was second, coming at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Bristol Motor Speedway (dirt), Darlington Raceway and Kansas Speedway. It is the fifth win for Niece Motorsports in only its seventh full-time season.

“Our whole organization has been working so hard to elevate our program across the board,” said Niece Motorsports General Manager Cody Efaw. “We have a lot of great people in place this season. We feel like as an organization we are the strongest we’ve ever been. Our expectation was to go out and compete for wins this year. I’m so happy to win in Texas for Al [Niece] and Worldwide Express.”

Hocevar qualified the No. 42 Worldwide Express Chevrolet in fifth for the Speedycash.com 250. Hocevar was shuffled back on an early restart, and with track position at a premium he struggled to make his way through the pack for much of the race.

A strong restart late in the race propelled Hocevar and the No. 42 Chevrolet into the top-10. For the remainder of the caution-plagued race, Hocevar hung strong in the top-five.

A wild battle at the finish saw Hocevar take the lead as the caution-flag flew and ended the race. Hocevar led just one lap on the day.

The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will return to action on Saturday at the dirt track at Bristol Motor Speedway. Hocevar led 55 laps last season in that event, before finishing second.

The Weather Guard Truck Race on Dirt will air live on FS1, The Motor Racing Network (MRN) and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio on April 8 at 8 p.m. ET.
