    Neme’chek’ the Facts:

John Hunter Nemechek and the No. 4 Pye-Barker Fire & Safety team head to Phoenix (Ariz.) Raceway for the final race of the 2022 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series campaign. Nemechek’s bid for a spot in the Championship 4 for the second consecutive year came up short as the No. 4 team experienced multiple flat-tire issues in the Round of 8 finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The tire issues set back the 25-year-old driver multiple laps early in the race and ultimately took the checkered flag in 35th.

The second-generation driver heads to Phoenix Raceway this Friday for his ninth start in Camping World Truck Series action. In his first eight starts, he has posted 31 laps led, two top-five and five top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 12.9. Nemechek has also made three NASCAR Cup Series start at the one-mile oval, earning a best finish of 25th in the Spring 2020 event. Earlier this season, Nemechek notched a fifth-place finish for Sam Hunt Racing piloting the No. 26 GR Supra in the Xfinity Series back in March. Across five Xfinity starts, he has two top-five and five top-five finishes.

With one race left in the Camping World Truck Series season, Nemechek leads Truck Series regulars in poles (seven) and is second in driver rating (101.9) and average starting position (7.8). He also sits third in laps led (372).

Pye-Barker Fire & Safety, an industry leader in commercial fire protection since 1946, will serve as the primary sponsor for Nemechek at Phoenix. Pye-Barker, who acquired Nemechek’s long-term partner Fire Alarm Services in 2021, has served as the primary sponsor on the No. 4 Tundra five times this season.

Nemechek is a 13-time winner in Camping World Truck Series action, winning at least one race each season from 2015 to 2018 for his family-owned team, NEMCO Motorsports, and returning to victory lane in 2021 and 2022 with KBM. Across 146 career starts in NASCAR’s third division, he has compiled nine poles, 1,553 laps led, 49 top-five and 80 top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 12.5.

Eric Phillips returned to lead the No. 4 team in 2022. His 43 career Truck Series victories make him the winningest crew chief in Truck Series history, with 34 of those coming while at KBM including five last year. Phillips led the No. 18 team at KBM in its debut season in 2010 and helped build the organization into one of the premier teams in all of NASCAR before departing at the end of the 2014 season. Under his guidance, the No. 18 team won eight races in its inaugural campaign and became the Series history to capture an owner’s championship in its first season of competition. In 2014, the Illinois native led the first team in Truck No. 51 team to an owner’s championship and his team’s 10 wins spearheaded KBM to a single-season Truck Series record of 14 wins. At Phoenix, Phillip’s drivers have collected three wins, one pole, five top-five and seven top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 10.2 across 11 starts. He was victorious at the one-mile oval with KBM owner-driver Kyle Busch (2011), Brian Scott (2012), and Erik Jones (2014).

    John Hunter Nemechek, Driver Q&A:
Reflect on your two seasons with Kyle Busch Motorsports.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity that Kyle, Toyota, TRD and everyone has given me to be a part of KBM. I’m proud to be a part of the KBM family and winning races over the last two years with a regular season championship and a final four appearance. The goal was to step back and be able to win races and I’ve been able to do that with the support and personnel at KBM.”

What would it mean to end your tenure at KBM going out with a win at Phoenix on Friday?
“It would mean a lot to end with a win and getting the final win with KBM and Toyota. Eric, all of the No. 4 guys, Kyle, the KBM employees in the machine shop (Rowdy Manufacturing), the fab shop, and all of our partners.”

Corey Heim: Driver, No. 51 Crescent Tools Toyota
NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Overview:

    45/45/60; 150 Miles

    The Story on Corey:

Corey Heim and the No. 51 Crescent Tools team head to Phoenix Raceway for the final race of the 2022 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season. Despite a fifth-place finish by Heim in the final race of the Round of 8 at Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway, the No. 51 team was eliminated from the owner’s playoffs after finishing seventh on the playoff grid, 42 points below the cutoff for advancing to the Championship 4.

Heim will be making his 16th start of the Truck Series season Friday night. He proved himself capable of winning Truck Series races early in the season picking up wins in his second start of the season at Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway and his sixth start of the year at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway, but also had several tough results. Despite the two wins, he posted an average finish of 19.5 across his first eight Truck Series starts of the 2022 season. Since taking over the wheel of the No. 51 for the remainder of the season in the last race of the regular season, Heim has produced consistent results, with four top-five and six top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 8.9 across the last seven events.

Across 15 total Truck Series starts this season, Heim has produced two wins, two poles, 64 laps led, six top-five and nine top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 14.5. The 19-year-old driver leads the Truck Series rookie of the year standings by 184 points over Lawless Alan and has been named the rookie of the race eight times. Heim will look to join three other KBM drivers that have won the award, reigning winner Chandler Smith, William Byron (2016) and Erik Jones (2015). Overall, Heim sits 14th in the driver point standings, despite only starting 15 of the 22 events, and is ahead of seven competitors that have started all 22 races.

Friday’s 150-lap event will mark Heim’s first Truck Series start at Phoenix, but he has three starts in other series. He finished second in the 2021 ARCA Menards Series event at the one-mile track and eighth in the 2020 ARCA Menards West Series event. He also made one start in the NASCAR K&N West Series at the Arizona track, which resulted in a 25th-place finish.

The Georgia driver picked up his first career Truck Series victory in just his fifth start earlier this season at Atlanta and won again at Gateway in is ninth start. With two victories across his first 10 Truck Series starts; Heim became one of just 12 drivers in series history to net multiple victories in their first 10 starts. Kasey Kahne and Mike Skinner each produced five victories, Mark Martin collected four wins, Ron Hornaday Jr., Ted Musgrave and William Byron brought home three checkered flags and Heim, Kyle Busch, Erik Jones, Rich Bickle, Clint Bowyer and Tony Stewart all delivered two wins.

Heim picked up his ninth career ARCA Menards Series victory Sept. 10 at Kansas Speedway. Across 43 career ARCA Menards Series starts he has produced 814 laps led, 31 top-five and 41 top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 4.3. Heim finished second to Ty Gibbs in the 2021 ARCA Menards Series championship standings.

Mardy Lindley returned to KBM for his second season atop the pit box of the No. 51 team. Lindley has led his team to six wins since coming to KBM at the start of the 2021 season, including two with Heim and one with Kyle Busch this year. In 2021, his drivers produced three victories, two with Busch and one with Martin Truex Jr. Before arriving at KBM, Lindley guided his drivers to 32 wins and four ARCA Menards Series East championships since 2013, including back-to-back titles with Sam Mayer the last two seasons. Additionally, he earned the ARCA Menards Series Sioux Chief Showdown championship with Mayer in 2020. Behind the wheel, the second-generation driver won 11 races on the Pro Cup Series from 2000 to 2006 and was crowned the series champion in 2001. Lindley’s drivers have an average finish of 18.5 across two Truck Series starts at Phoenix.

Crescent Tools, a premier hand tool brand from Apex Tool Group, will be the primary sponsor on Heim’s No. 51 Tundra TRD Friday night at Phoenix.

    Corey Heim, Driver Q&A:

Reflect on your two seasons racing for KBM.
“I’m super grateful for my experience at KBM. From my first start to my last, I feel like I have learned so much racing for Kyle and being a part of a top-notch organization.”

You’re set to win the Rookie of the Year despite not running the full season. Talk about that accomplishment.
“It certainly means a lot. It wasn’t something I came into the year setting my sights on, considering if any of the full time rookies make the playoffs, I wouldn’t have a chance. But I take every race one week at a time and try to perform to the best of my ability, and throughout my career it’s always given me the best results at the end of the season. So, I’m very grateful when it’s all said and done that I get to take Rookie of the Year home.”

What would it mean to close out the season with your third win on Friday night?
“It would definitely mean a lot for me. I feel like we have had the pace in a lot of races this year to contend for wins. Tw0 race wins has been great for me this year, but I’m definitely not satisfied, and my sights are set on the trophy Friday night.”

Chandler Smith – No. 18 Safelite Tundra TRD Pro Camping World Trucks Championship 4 at Phoenix Preview

Chandler Smith: Driver, No. 18 Safelite® Toyota

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Overview:
Event: Lucas Oil 150, Race 23 of 23 (Championship 4)
    150 Laps – 45/45/60; 150 Miles
Location: Phoenix (Ariz.) Raceway (one-mile oval)
    Date/Broadcast: Nov. 4, 2022, at 10 p.m. ET on FS1, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR 90

    Chandler Championship Chatter:

Chandler Smith and the No. 18 Safelite team head to the Championship 4 at Phoenix (Ariz.) Raceway looking to bring home the eighth overall championship and third driver title to KBM. The 20-year-old driver advanced to the Championship 4 by finishing the Round of 8 third on the playoff grid, 13 points above the cutoff line.

Smith is the defending winner of the Phoenix truck race. After narrowly missing out on a bid to compete for last year’s championship, the Georgia driver stole the show in the championship race. He captured the pole and all three stages en route to the second win of his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series career. Across three Truck Series starts at the Arizona track, he has compiled an average finish of 2.3, with his win last year and a pair of third-place finishes (2019 and 2020). He also went to victory lane in his lone ARCA Menards Series start at the one-mile oval in 2020.

The Toyota Racing Development product has produced three wins in 2022, tying him with Zane Smith for the series lead. He won the second race of the season at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the regular season finale at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway and in the Round of 8 at Richmond. Across 22 Truck Series starts this season Smith has recorded eight top-five and 15 top-10 finishes. He ranks first among Truck Series regulars in laps led (440), average running position (8.784) and laps completed (3032), is second in average finish (9.0), third in driver rating (101.8) and quality passes (715), and fourth in fastest laps run (205).

The No. 18 Safelite team will be unloading the same Tundra TRD Pro that Smith won with at Phoenix last season, KBM-70. The chassis has totaled three victories, last year at Phoenix, earlier this year at Las Vegas and in this year’s Round of 8 at Richmond.

In addition to having a truck with a winning history, Smith will have Danny Stockman calling the shots for him, a crew chief with championship pedigree. The veteran crew chief captured a Truck Series championship with Austin Dillon in 2011 and also won an Xfinity Series championship with Dillon in 2013. Stockman’s drivers have produced one win, two top-five and three top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 4.3 across three Truck Series starts at Phoenix. In the series most recent visit he picked up the win with Smith last year. Across 12 Xfinity Series starts at the one-mile track his drivers have registered four top-five and 11 top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 6.3. Stockman has captured nine wins as a crew chief since joining KBM, including five with Smith.

Smith earned NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Rookie of the Year honors in 2021 after producing two victories, one pole, 213 laps led, six top-five and nine top-10 finishes in his first full-time season. He earned his first career Truck Series victory at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway in September of 2021. Across 60 career Truck Series starts, the Toyota Racing Development driver had recorded five wins, one pole, 746 laps led, 22 top-five and 33 top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 12.8.

Safelite, the nation’s largest provider of vehicle glass repair, replacement and recalibration services, returned to KBM for a fifth season in 2022 and will be the primary sponsor on Smith’s Tundra TRD Pro Tundra for Friday night’s championship race.

    Chandler Smith, Driver Q&A:
You finished last season strong. How do that help propel you to the Championship 4 this year?
“I feel like last year, the last three quarters of last year we showed what we were going to have in store for this year. We were really good at the end of last year – started getting wins and running up front every single week and were the truck to beat almost every other week – where the year before we were hit or miss. We ended up getting our stuff together, we were more consistent, winning races and I told the guys next year we are out for blood – we’re going to go get them next year. And look, we’re sitting here talking about running for a championship and it has just been an amazing experience.”

Does your performance at Phoenix last year give you confidence heading into Friday night?
“It gives us a lot of data; we know what works and doesn’t work at Phoenix. Looking back at last year, we were really good, got the pole and won both the stages and the race. And if you look to the year before, we ran at the back but salvaged a good finish. We’ve been on both sides of the totem pole – we were absolutely horrible and then we went and stomped their butts. We have a lot of notes, I think obviously it would be dumb of us not to go back with what we had, and I think that is what we are going to do. We just can’t beat ourselves. We know how to win there, and we know how to qualify good there and track position is definitely big because the race is really short. Qualifying good, staying up front and staying out of trouble and racing the race track. We’ve produced fast Toyota Tundras all year, so there is no reason we stop now.”

    Danny Stockman, Crew Chief Q&A:
You’ve won two NASCAR National Series championships. Does that help you prepare your team for Friday?
“It all starts throughout the season, and you work on your driver, and you work on your team to be able to perform in this moment. The moment is huge, and you don’t get these opportunities every year and you don’t get Chandler Smith’s every year and when you have these opportunities and these moments you have to excel. We’ve been preparing ourselves throughout the season to be able to do that and there is no other team in this garage that I would rather take then who I have and no other driver. I truthfully feel in my heart that win can go there and win the race and the championship at the same time.”

    Chandler Smith Career Highlights:

Raceway earned his first career pole and swept all three stages en route to his second victory.

Hailie Deegan, No. 1 Wastequip Ford F-150

    • Hailie Deegan will make her final start of the 2022 season in her second NCWTS appearance at Phoenix Raceway this Friday.
    • In the series’ last outing at Homestead-Miami Speedway, the Ford development driver started in seventh before handling issues rendered her to a 17th-place finish.
    • Deegan finished 17th in last year’s Phoenix contest. She has also added finishes of fourth in the ARCA Menards Series West in 2019 and a seventh-place ARCA National performance in 2020.
    • The 21-year-old will head into the season finale with a career-high two top-tens, including her best-ever finish of sixth at Talladega Superspeedway.
    • Veteran Crew Chief Jerry Baxter has eight starts at the one-mile oval under his belt, boasting an average finish of 9.1 to go along with a career-best result of fourth with Daniel Suarez in 2015

Tanner Gray, No. 15 Ford Performance F-150

    • Tanner Gray will make his 71st career NCWTS start on Friday night when the series enters the final race of the year at Phoenix Raceway.
    • At Homestead-Miami two weeks ago, Gray was on his way to a hard-earned top-15 result. However, an improper fueling penalty sullied his strong run, rendering the Artesia, NM native to a 25th-place finish.
    • Crew Chief Mike Hillman Jr. has one victory at the unique oval, winning in 2005 with driver Todd Bodine. Guiding his drivers to an average finish of 7.3, Phoenix remains one of the veteran signal-callers most successful tracks on the NCWTS schedule.
    • After three seasons of partnership, Ford Performance will don the hood of the No. 15 Ford F-150 for the final time this weekend. Starting in 2023, the newly rebranded TRICON Garage will realign with Toyota, making Gray one of the pilots of the team’s flagship lineup.

Taylor Gray, No. 17 Ford Performance F-150

    • Taylor Gray will make his eighth and final start of 2022 as the NCWTS season comes to an end at Phoenix Raceway.
    • The 17-year-old made his only NCWTS appearance at Phoenix in 2021, bringing home a 29th-place finish after a flat right-rear tire cost him an opportunity for a lead lap finish. Gray claimed his first-career ARCA Menards Series win at Phoenix Raceway earlier this season, securing a victory by way of a clutch overtime restart.
    • Gray is gearing up for his first full-time run in the Truck Series, starting at Circuit of the Americas for the newly branded TRICON Garage in 2023. The 17-year-old will miss the first three races of the season due to NASCAR’s age restriction policy.
    • Chad Johnston will sit atop the pit box this weekend for the No. 17 team. He guided Gray to an ARCA Menards Series victory at the one-mile oval in March, adding to the five top-fives and eight top-tens he amassed at the facility over his NASCAR Cup Series career.

“From there, we can make gains throughout the race and keep up with the expected track changes and hopefully contend for a top-20 finish when the checkered flag waves on the season.”

  • Daniel Dye Signed to Compete Full-Time in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series for GMS Racing in 2023

Daniel Dye Signed to Compete Full-Time in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series for GMS Racing in 2023

Dye will compete for Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors driving the No. 43 Chevrolet

DAYTONA BEACH, FL (Oct. 25, 2022) – This afternoon at Daytona International Speedway, GMS Racing officials announced a new addition to the team’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver lineup for the 2023 racing season. There will be a familiar face in a new place, as the two-time series championship winning team promotes Daniel Dye to drive the new No. 43 Chevrolet Silverado RST entry for a full-time effort next year.

Dye, who joined GMS Racing in 2021 initially for a part-time ARCA Menards Series East and National schedule, made the transition to a full-time campaign in 2022, where he competed for the championship in his rookie year. In 20 starts, Dye earned one pole, a series-high 13 top-fives and 17 top-10 results; and finished second in the drivers’ points standings.

Additionally, Daniel won the ARCA CGS Imaging Four Crown championship, and secured the Bounty Rookie of the Year award by virtue of being one of the most consistent drivers on the tour. Dye has one ARCA Menards Series win on his resumé, conquering Berlin Raceway with the GMS Racing team in 2021.

Off the track, the eighteen-year-old showcases his philanthropic character by working closely with the family-formed Race to Stop Suicide non-profit. Race to Stop Suicide works to normalize the conversation and stigma surrounding mental health, as well as providing resources and education to professionals in the Daytona Beach community and across the country in regions in which Daniel and the GMS Racing team compete.

The rookie looks forward to next season, noting “I am really thankful for the opportunity to drive the No. 43 Chevrolet Silverado RST for GMS Racing in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in 2023. GMS Racing, their partners and staff, are the best in the business, and to drive their Chevy trucks next season is something that I’ve dreamed of for a long time. I’m counting down the days to coming back here at Daytona to race under the lights.”

Team President, Mike Beam, echoed Dye’s remarks ahead of the announcement, stating “It has truly been a pleasure watching Daniel progress so far in his relatively short time spent with the team. Since we signed him to our program, his dedication to learning the ins and outs of the sport has been top-notch. Early on, it was made clear to everyone that he has the talent to move up to the next level of competition. Now, with a full year of ARCA racing under his belt, the time has come to make that move. We are excited to be a part of his journey along with our partners at GM and Chevrolet, and look forward to seeing what he can do during his rookie year competing in the Craftsman Truck Series.”

A young, up-and-coming prospect of Chevrolet, Dye will continue to play an integral role in the Drivers Edge Development program, which was formed in a joint effort between GMS Racing and JR Motorsports in 2019. The Drivers Edge Development program aims at bolstering young talent’s careers by providing competition & marketing resources from the winningest OEM in NASCAR history.

“We look forward to seeing Daniel take his driving talent full-time to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in 2023,” said Dayne Pierantoni, GM Racing Program Manager for the NASCAR Truck Series. “In only his second year in the Drivers Edge Development program, Daniel’s dedication to putting in the work on and off the track made him a championship contender in his ARCA Menards Series rookie season. We are excited to see him continue his growth behind the wheel with GMS Racing at the NASCAR national level.”

Further announcements, including partners and key personnel on Dye’s No. 43 team, will be made at a later date. Additional driver announcements are also forthcoming, as the team plans to expand upon its Craftsman Truck Series program moving forward. Partnership opportunities for Dye’s rookie campaign are still available; more information can be found by contacting sara@gmsracing.net.

Toyota claims 13th Truck Series Manufacturer Championship

HOMESTEAD, Fla. (October 22, 2022) – For the eighth time in the last 10 seasons, Toyota has won the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Manufacturer’s title. It is Toyota’s 13th title overall in 19 seasons competing with the Tundra in the Truck Series.

“It has been another exceptional season for our Truck Series organizations,” said Paul Doleshal, Group Manager, Motorsports, Toyota Motor North America (TMNA). “The efforts by all of our drivers, teams and TRD has allowed us to have another consistent season with record-breaking success for the Tundra. We are excited to celebrate this accomplishment and remain focused on earning a driver’s title in Phoenix.”

Toyota teams – Halmar Friesen Racing (HFR), Hattori Racing Enterprises (HRE), Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) and ThorSport Racing (TSR) – have all had strong performances this season as Toyota set a series record with seven of the 10 Truck Series Playoff drivers. Four KBM drivers – Chandler Smith, John Hunter Nemechek, Kyle Busch and rookie Corey Heim – have all driven to the winner’s circle. Heim, despite only starting 15 of the 22 events this season, has also locked up the Rookie of the Year title. Stewart Friesen scored his first victory since joining Toyota at its home race in Texas, while Ben Rhodes and Ty Majeski earned victories for TSR, which was the only multi-car team to place all of their drivers in the Playoffs.

    Since joining the series in 2004, Toyota has won 225 Truck Series races and captured 169 poles in 448 races. In addition to this year’s title, Toyota also claimed manufacturer championships in 2006 (12 wins); 2007 (13 wins); 2008 (13 wins); 2009 (14 wins); 2010 (15 wins); 2013 (13 wins); 2014 (18 wins), 2015 (14 wins), 2016 (14 wins), 2017 (12 wins), 2019 (12 wins) and 2021 (15 wins).

    TOYOTA QUOTES

TY MAJESKI, No. 66 Road Ranger Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, ThorSport Racing

    Finishing Position: 1st

    How about that race today?

“We were just letting it all hang out there. This place is so much fun. This race track is just badass, so much fun to race on. Obviously, it makes it more fun when you have a truck like that. I’m so proud of Joe (Shear, Jr., crew chief), everybody at ThorSport – Duke, Rhonda, Allison (Thorson, team owners) to let us go and live our dreams. We all make a living racing and that is pretty dang cool. I love doing this. I’m so happy to be here and so proud to making the most of this opportunity.”

Did you have to do much on this truck?
“No, we didn’t make many changes on our Road Ranger Tundra at all. Just a little air pressure. This Tundra was really, really good off of the truck. We made minimal changes. Joe (Shear, Jr., crew chief) did a great job. This is cool. I can’t for much more momentum going into Phoenix chasing a championship. That is our goal. We are plenty capable of doing it. We proved it two of the last three races, and we are going to go give it our best shot.”

BEN RHODES, No. 99 Kubota Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, ThorSport Racing

    Finishing Position: 6th

What were the closing laps like for you as you battled for the final position to contend for the championship?

“Fighting with my teammate there for the last few laps and every spot matters. We got in by one point from what I understand. I’m just really, really happy that we had a good showing for this Kubota Toyota Tundra. The folks came out for this race, and they were able to stand on the pit box and see all of it. Really happy that they can have an intense race for them, give them some excitement, but man, I wish it was easier. Seemed harder than it should have. And just really glad I can defend the title. It’s been an up and down season and we aren’t the best at mile-and-a-halves, but we’ve made leaps and bounds here. We were able to get the first stage win and finish fifth in the second. Then when we had that bad pit stop and went back to 15th, I was sweating bullets like I knew I had a lot of work to do. I just didn’t know it was going to be that tough.”

What will it take for you to defend your championship?

“I think it’s going to be tough. I think Ty Majeski is going to be the guy to beat. Him and Joe Shear (crew chief) have it figured out on these smooth tracks. Phoenix I would categorize as a place that’s in their wheelhouse. So, we’re going to take some notes from them maybe and we’re going to work on our own program. We just have to be consistent, and we have to work on that. So far, so good. I’m thrilled with the last two races, and we’ve really turned everything around and made it back in.”

CHANDLER SMITH, No. 18 Safelite AutoGlass Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, Kyle Busch Motorsports

    Finishing Position: 10th

What does it mean to know that you’ll get to compete for the championship in Phoenix?

“That’s what we’ve been working on since we had a cushion after Talladega. Just starting to work on Phoenix stuff. We did work on things for this race. We knew we had to have a solid truck and not just completely bank on pointing our way in and we wanted to come here and try to win. But we just missed it here today. But that being said, we are all focused on going to run for a championship and I’m happy for that. Just being here with my Safelite KBM group, this is awesome to have the opportunity to go and run for a championship. I don’t know if I’ll ever get to do this again in my career. So really, really thankful for the opportunity. Just super blessed right now and feeling humbled.”

Are you one of the favorites along with Ty Majeski for the championship?

“I’ll let that be up to you guys. I think we should be okay at Phoenix. We were good there last year, good the year before and the year before that. So, I feel that’s a track that I do like. I feel like we have a really good package there obviously with how we did last year. At the end of the day, we’re racing for a championship. We made it this far and there’s a lot for us to be proud of this season no matter how you look at it.”

JOHN HUNTER NEMECHEK, No. 4 GEARWRENCH Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, Kyle Busch Motorsports

    Finishing Position: 35th

What happened that took you out of contention to be able to make the final four to contend for the championship in Phoenix?

“Just made a mistake on my end. I got dirtied up behind the 52 (Stewart Friesen) early on in stage on and hit the fence and just trying to make up time and was pushing the issue probably a little too hard. Ultimately pushed it a little too hard, hit the fence again and had the right front go flat. Came in, pitted and ended up not clearing tires good enough and had another tire go down and had to pit again. Then had to play pit strategy and after that it was just damage control. It’s on me. It’s just frustrating for myself for sure to not advance to the final four, but still have a couple races left to go out and try to win.”

Myatt Snider – No. 31 Tax Slayer Chevrolet Camaro SS Preview-
    Homestead-Miami Speedway

    News and Notes:

    • Practice; After the completion of technical inspection on Friday afternoon teams would take to the 1.502-mile Homestead-Miami Speedway (HMS) for a reduced 10-minute practice session after a delay for rain. Running 10 laps during his practice session, Myatt Snider would record a fast lap of 33.734 at 160.076 mph on Lap-1 placing the No. 31 TaxSlayer Chevrolet 22nd fastest of the 40 cars entered for the NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) Contender Boats 300 at HMS.

    – Starting Position; Directly after the conclusion of the rain shortened NXS 10-minute practice session teams would have ten minutes to change tires and add fuel before moving into single-lap qualifying to determine the starting order for Saturday’s Contender Boats 300. The 25th competitor to make his qualifying effort, Snider would record a lap of 33.203 at 162.636 placing the 27-year-old Charlotte, N.C. native in the 19th position. Snider will line up inside row 10 for Saturday’s Contender Boats 300.

    – Homestead-Miami Speedway Stats; Saturday’s NXS Contender Boats 300 will mark Snider’s fourth start at HMS in NXS competition. In his debut at HMS in the June of 2020 apart of the Covid-19 NASCAR reopening schedule, Snider would start in the 26th position and work his way forward throughout the race to earn a respectable 15th place finish. The very next day the teams would line up based on a 15-car inversion from Saturday’s race finish. Lining up 1st Snider would have a very fast car the entire day and would remain in contention at the end of the 177-laps. Slipping back on the final restart Snider would end up being credited with a seventh-place finish.

Returning in the Spring of 2021, Snider would start in the tenth position and put himself in a position throughout the race to contend for the victory at the end of the scheduled 179-laps. Running in the fourth spot with three to go the caution would come out forcing all the leaders to head to pit lane for fresh tires. The pit crew would have an ultra-quick stop gaining Snider two positions on pit road. Restarting as the leader at the first attempt at NASCAR overtime, Snider. would spin the tires and fall back a position as the caution would come out as they exited Turn-2. Reverting back to the last completed lap the second attempt at NASCAR overtime would see Snider get a much better restart and launch out into the lead where he would remain for the final lap and half on the way to capturing his first NXS victory.

Saturday’s Contender Boats 300 will be the debut in the NXS at HMS for JAR Bommarito Autosport. Last season’s Contender Boats 300 in February JAR Bommarito Autosport was not able to compete in due to no qualifying and the line up being set by Top-40 in 2020 owner points.
