Marks on making his first NASCAR start since 2018 and returning to Mid-Ohio: “I’m glad I can help support Niece Motorsports and thrilled to be in the Worldwide Express colors. Their Silverados have been fast this year so we are going to Mid-Ohio this weekend with the mindset of not only having fun, but believing we will run welI. I know how fast Carson Hocevar was at the road course in Sonoma before he had to turn over the truck to Daniel [Suárez]. I expect he’ll be just as good on the road course at Mid-Ohio.”

Marks at Mid-Ohio: Marks makes his first-career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) start at Mid-Ohio Saturday and his first NASCAR national series start since September 2018. Saturday marks his 39th NCWTS start.

Marks won the NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) event at Mid-Ohio on Aug. 13, 2016 after leading a race-high 43 laps. Additionally, Marks has 35 NXS starts and six NASCAR Cup Series (NCS) starts to his credit.

On the Truck: Marks will pilot the No. 41 Worldwide Express Chevrolet Silverado Saturday at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

  • Ford Performance NASCAR: Zane Smith Looks To Extend Truck Series Points Lead

Ford Performance NASCAR: Zane Smith Looks To Extend Truck Series Points Lead

    Ford Performance Notes and Quotes
    NASCAR Camping World Truck Series
    Mid-Ohio Advance | Wednesday, July 6, 2022

Zane Smith, driver of the No. 38 Boot Barn F-150 for Front Row Motorsports, goes into this weekend’s inaugural NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Mid-Ohio with a 21-point lead in the standings. Smith was a guest earlier today on the weekly Ford Performance media Zoom call with motorsports reporters and spoke about his goals with two races remaining in the regular season.

ZANE SMITH, No. 38 Boot Barn F-150 – HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT YOUR POSITION AND IS IT A TIME TO BE MORE AGGRESSIVE AND GO AFTER THOSE PLAYOFF BONUS POINTS? “I think our main focus right now is this regular season championship, just with how valuable it is to win it, especially in a case like ourselves where we’ve already had a strong start to the year with three wins. If I don’t get anymore wins in between now and two races left, and I do win the regular season championship, it’s equivalent to three more wins and those points carry you a long way, so we’ve had a really strong start to the season. I feel like it says a lot about our team even after our Las Vegas incident with the lugnut, and I feel like if it wasn’t for that I’d have a huge buffer, so to bounce back from that I feel like it says a lot about our team and we’re ready to attack these next two races.”

HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR MID-OHIO THIS WEEKEND? “I feel like I’ve put in a lot of hours on the Ford sim and I feel like my engineer and I have worked closely and getting our truck better. The simulator is one thing and real deal is a whole other, but you typically get a general read for it and, as of right now, I’m really happy with how everything has been going and I’m excited to get to Mid-Ohio. I’ve never been there. I’ve never seen the place. I’ve heard mixed opinions on it, but I have enjoyed it so far. I feel like it should be fun and obviously hoping for another good points day and to leave there hopefully with the trophy and an even bigger points cushion.”

DO YOU FEEL WINNING THE REGULAR SEASON CHAMPIONSHIP MAKES MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE IN GETTING TO PHOENIX FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP RACE? “Yeah, it makes a huge difference. I’ve been in way worse situations than I am now. I feel like if you get those extra bonus points it just goes such a long way, but I’ve been in way way worse situation before and having to win in my last possible chance, so I’m happy where we’re at as a team. We have a new truck being built for the playoffs and obviously some good tracks coming up for us as well, but I feel like we’ve had the speed. The hard part of the eight-week stretch is over, so the fine detail kind of gets to be put into our trucks as it always is, but even more detail now. I feel like that’s what really separates people, so I’m super excited to get these playoffs rolling and hopefully we end up in Phoenix again. How championships are won now is just whoever is the best in Phoenix, so obviously we want to get ourselves locked in as soon as possible and put our biggest preparation into Phoenix if that day comes.”

IS THERE A TRACK THAT HELPS BEST PREPARE FOR PHOENIX OR ARE YOU TAKING IT RACE BY RACE? “I want to take it race by race, but it’s hard for me not to look forward to Kansas in the playoffs just with how our first Kansas went. I feel like the Fords in general have been really strong and I feel like we’ve done a pretty good job of executing races and staying consistent. That’s what it takes to get to Phoenix.”

YOU WERE FIRST AT COTA AND SECOND AT SONOMA, SO IS THIS WEEKEND ONE YOU’RE LOOKING FORWARD TO? “Absolutely. I feel like road courses, I said in COTA, I think it was to Jamie Little but road courses in my opinion is almost, I don’t want to say an off weekend but a fun weekend because if you’re off a little bit I feel like the driver can make the difference in a way, so I like that part of it and I grew up road course racing. I’ve never seen MId-Ohio, but what I know of it so far on the simulator and watching it, it seems like a lot of fun, so I’m super excited about it.”

IT’S A LONG WAY UNTIL THE END OF THE PLAYOFFS IN NOVEMBER. HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH SUCH A LONG PLAYOFF SEASON? “I feel like the most difficult part is if you have a bad weekend we have a huge break, I want to say it’s in August, and that part is the hardest part. I feel like the Xfinity and the Cup, obviously the Cup level is the Cup level, but for Xfinity to compare apples to apples, you could have a bad race to start the beginning of your year and be all right because I think Xfinity still has close to eight or nine races and, for us, if you have one bad race it hurts and so I feel like it’s really tough to make the playoffs in general for the Truck Series and then, like I said about the breaks once the playoffs get going, is really difficult. The past two years have worked out for me and I enjoy when the playoffs come around just because of the win you’re in mindset. Executing on peoples’ bad days is a big key to it. It takes everything to get to Phoenix. It’s almost a championship in itself getting there and then running the best out of everyone else is a whole other thing, so hopefully that’s the case this year.”

WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS FOR MID-OHIO? “I’m a huge fan of road course racing. Our track record so far this year on the road courses has been really good with a first at COTA and a second at Sonoma, so a first and a second is a good start. I feel like at Sonoma I had a shot at the end, but I just wasn’t close enough to Kyle. I feel like Mid-Ohio from what I hear, talking to Michael McDowell and Joey Hand, it seems like it’s my style of a rhythm type road course and I like that. I actually feel like a place like COTA, where it’s really heavy braking ares isn’t quite my strong suit, but rhythm places and keeping your momentum up I would say is my strong suit road course-wise, so I can’t wait to get down there.”

WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE SPORTS MOMENT? “It was pretty cool watching Jimmie Johnson win his seventh championship. Racing is all I’ve ever known. Besides racing, I’m a huge Tom Brady fan. I really enjoy seeing his success at such a high level and all the people that talk crap about him and how he shuts them up. That’s just really cool to see, whether he played football, golf or baseball it don’t matter for me. Other than that, Jimmie Johnson winning a seventh championship was pretty cool. Anything racing involved is always cool to watch, especially when the odds really are in their favor.”

HOW DID YOU ENJOY YOUR CUP DEBUT AT GATEWAY SUBBING FOR CHRIS BUESCHER? “When I ran the 17 Cup car it was an experience I’ll never forget. It was about as last-minute as it could possible get, but I had a ton of fun getting to, I don’t know, I guess to see that and be a part of it. That was what was so cool. Ever since you’re a little kid in any professional sport you always want to get to the top level and it’s crazy once you get to do that, especially for your first time, so that was pretty crazy. Just the atmosphere difference was so much different than anything I’ve ever experienced and obviously the competition level taught me so much. It was cool to race against those guys that I’d grown up watching, a lot of them, and so hopefully there will be more in the near future.”

ARE YOU DOING ANYTHING DIFFERENT THIS YEAR THAN PREVIOUS YEARS? ALL OF YOUR STATS ARE BETTER. “I wouldn’t say there’s anything I’m doing different. I just feel like everything is clicking well. The communication between myself, crew chief, engineer, our whole team is just really good right now. I feel like just race car drivers in general, once you have a few years under your belt it just really shows once you’ve been to the places and you’ve gotten to experience so many different things and I feel like that’s the case for me. A lot of times I feel like I’ve experienced so much, so I can’t imagine 10-plus years racing. I’m having a ton of fun this year. It’s been cool to collect some trophies and be in contention to win races pretty much week in and week out and we’ll try to keep it up in these playoffs and see if we can end up in Phoenix.”

ANY ADVICE FOR KIDS OUT THERE WHO LOOK UP TO YOU? “It’s obviously been super cool to see, especially last year and this year all of the support I’ve gotten from the fan’s side. I feel like that’s super cool to see. I try to be as relatable as possible, but as far as advice I’m still figuring myself out. But as far as racing advice, if you’re trying to make it professionally, I would try to race anything and everything you get your hands on and take advantage of every opportunity you’re given and just roll with the punches and see what it gives you and have fun with it.”

CAN YOU TALK MORE ABOUT WHAT JOEY HAND IS HELPING YOU WITH? “Joey helped some at COTA and I’m not sure if he helped at Sonoma, but I’ve been really impressed with Joey and super thankful for his help that he and Ford have provided us. I obviously haven’t been able to apply it yet at Mid-Ohio, but his COTA help was tremendous and I just feel like little things he’s showed me at Mid-Ohio has helped me a ton. I feel like it’s really easy for people that come in, I don’t want to sound bad here, but people who think they’re helping but they don’t understand the stock cars that we race and the things that they say don’t make sense or isn’t necessarily true, but that is not the case with Joey. With him he is spot on and I feel like the communication between him and I has been great. As soon as he talks about something, I don’t know if it’s because we come from a karting background or he just has so much road course experience he just knows, but as soon as he talks about something I pick it up right away with him and that’s been really cool. He’s a super cool guy. Obviously a freaking wheel man, and hopefully I get to use him some more whenever I get the chance.”

IS IT JUST CONVERSATION WHERE HE HELPS OR DO YOU LOOK AT VIDEO? “What he did for COTA and Mid-Ohio is Ford will send him down to North Carolina for at least a day and he’ll work with me for a couple hours. I’ll pretty much run for 20 minutes and he’ll have a track map and mark down all these notes of his thoughts and opinions and I feel like that’s what makes him good is because he makes it clear these are his thoughts and his opinion, you don’t have to do it and you can take what you want from it. I feel like that’s how you should go about things and with Joey I’ve taken about 99 percent of them just because I feel like they’ve all really applied well with what I’m trying to do. His help in the simulator has been tremendous and hopefully we can apply it on Saturday.”

WILL THE REGULAR SEASON TITLE AND 15-POINT BONUS THAT COMES WITH IT MAKE YOU MORE HESITANT TO STICK YOUR NOSE INTO A TIGHT SITUATION WITH THAT THOUGHT IN THE BACK OF YOUR MIND? “For sure, especially when you take those away from guys they’re gonna be racing in the playoffs a lot more conservative, so you’ve got to take advantage of those situations. That’s where my head is at. I’m sure that’s where the other guys’ heads are at that also have pretty good playoff points, so we need to get there first, but a great first step would be winning on Saturday.”

IS THERE A PARTICULAR AREA YOU FEEL YOU NEED TO IMPROVE ON AS A TEAM OR IS IT JUST REFINING WHERE YOU ARE? “I feel like pit road needs to be better.”

SO THE MODIFIED PIT STOPS MIGHT PLAY INTO YOUR HAND? “I feel like it’s not that it’s been completely horrible, it just needs to be more consistent, especially when these playoffs come around just because mistakes don’t get you to Phoenix. I’ve gotten to experience that and fortunately we’ve been able to execute as late as you could possibly get it done, but I do not want to be a part of that again. I would like to be able to breathe going into, I think it’s Homestead this year, so that’s our goal. To be in the playoffs you need to be perfect. I don’t want it to seem like we’re bashing anyone, but I feel like our pit road needs to be more consistent.”

WITH THE MODIFIED PIT STOPS THIS WEEK HOW MUCH EASIER IS IT TO KNOW YOU DON’T HAVE TO MAKE A DECISION ON WHETHER OR NOT TO COME IN BEFORE THE STAGE BREAK? “I like that. I feel like it’ll make for an exciting Pocono because we’re all gonna be racing for these stage wins because all the stages are pretty cut and dried. There’s good and bad to it. There’s good that way, but if you have a mistake early in the race, typically bad things on a road course you can short pit and still have a good day if you do something or make a mistake. There is none of that anymore and I’ve heard Mid-Ohio is pretty tough to pass, so minimizing your mistakes are gonna be crucial and just being around at the end and not getting into anyone else’s mess is the key.”

John Hunter Nemechek – No. 4 Mobil 1 Tundra TRD Pro Camping World Trucks Mid-Ohio Preview

John Hunter Nemechek: Driver, No. 4 Mobil 1 Toyota

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Overview:
    Event: O’Reilly Auto Parts 150, Race 15 of 23, 67 Laps – 20/20/27; 151.28 Miles
Location: Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio (2.258-mile 13-turn road course)
    Date/Broadcast: July 9, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. ET on FS1, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR 90

    Neme’chek’ the Facts:
John Hunter Nemechek and the No. 4 Mobil 1 team head into Mid-Ohio with their sights set on closing the gap in the Camping World Truck Series regular season championship standings. After a ninth-place finish at Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway, Nemechek dropped one spot in the standings and finds himself 21 tallies behind points leader Zane Smith with just two races remaining in the regular season.

Nemechek will be pulling double-duty this weekend at Mid-Ohio, making his first career ARCA Menards Series start behind the wheel of the No. 55 Toyota Camry for Venturini Motorsports. He has previously made just one start at Mid-Ohio in the Xfinity Series, where a mid-race incident relegated him to a 31st-place finish.

The second-generation driver has finished inside the top-10 in 10 out of the last 11 events and leads NASCAR Truck Series regulars in poles (four) and average starting position (6.9). He also ranks second in driver rating (102.3) top-10 finishes (10) and average running position (9.027) and sits fourth in laps led (188).

The Toyota Racing driver spent his off weekend from the Truck Series making his sixth Xfinity Series start of the season piloting the No. 26 GR Supra for Sam Hunt Racing at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin where he brought home an 18th-place finish.

Nemechek is a 12-time winner in Camping World Truck Series action, winning at least one race each season from 2015 to 2018 for his family-owned team, NEMCO Motorsports, and returning to victory lane in 2021 and 2022 with KBM. Across 138 career starts in NASCAR’s third division, he has compiled six poles, 1,369 laps led, 46 top-five and 76 top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 12.4.

Eric Phillips returned to lead the No. 4 team in 2022. His 42 career Truck Series victories make him the winningest crew chief in Truck Series history, with 33 of those coming while at KBM including five last year. Phillips led the No. 18 team at KBM in its debut season in 2010 and helped build the organization into one of the premier teams in all of NASCAR before departing at the end of the 2014 season. Under his guidance, the No. 18 team won eight races in its inaugural campaign and became the Series history to capture an owner’s championship in its first season of competition. In 2014, the Illinois native led the first team in Truck No. 51 team to an owner’s championship and his team’s 10 wins spearheaded KBM to a single-season Truck Series record of 14 wins. Phillips has been atop the box for four Xfinity Series starts at Mid-Ohio with a best finish of 11th in 2015 with Daniel Suarez. Across six Camping World Truck Series starts on road courses, his drivers have tallied 17 laps led, four top-five and 10 top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 5.0. His best finish came with John Hunter Nemechek in 2021 at Watkins Glen International where they finished second.

The world’s leading synthetic motor oil, Mobil 1, will adorn the hood of the No. 4 Tundra TRD Pro this Saturday at Mid-Ohio. Mobil 1 returns as the primary sponsor of Nemechek’s Toyota for two more races in 2022 on Oct. 1 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway and Sept. 9 at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City.

    John Hunter Nemechek, Driver Q&A:
How beneficial will it be running the ARCA race before the Truck Series race this weekend?
“I think running laps this weekend is going to help with the limited track time. I’ve been able to at least run a Xfinity Series race at Mid-Ohio and it’s one of my favorite racetracks to go to. It’s an awesome race and I think reps are huge for this weekend.”

You’ve raced at Mid-Ohio in the Xfinity Series; how does it compare to the other road courses we’ve raced at in the Truck Series this year?
“Mid-Ohio is different than the other road courses we’ve been to this year in the Truck Series to me. There’s some tight roller sections and a couple long straightaways but a unique track in itself.”

In addition to your experience at Mid-Ohio, Eric Phillips (crew chief) has been on the box for four Xfinity Series races there. How beneficial will the experience he has a crew chief there be this weekend?
“I think having experience on the pit box from Eric calling a race there and knowing what the factors are and being there for rain races and dry races depending on the conditions will help. Knowing some of the backstory on Mid-Ohio and just having experience there is going to be very beneficial to go against those who have never been there before.”

    • Chassis History/Info: Grant Enfinger will race GMS Racing chassis no. 138 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. This Silverado RST has been the No. 23 team’s road course workhorse this season, racing in events at Circuit Of The Americas, where it finished 10th, and Sonoma Raceway, where it finished 11th. Sheldon Creed drove this chassis to two top-five finishes in 2021, when it was originally built.
    • Crew Chief Change: Over the off weekend, GMS Racing officials announced that they would be making a crew chief change for the No. 23 truck. Jeff Hensley, a 35-year veteran of the sport, has rejoined the team to call the shots for Grant Enfinger for the remainder of the season. The duo have previous success from years past, earning a total of five wins during their tenure, including four wins and a Championship 4 appearance in 2020.
    • Playoffs Outlook: Heading into this weekend’s race at Mid-Ohio, Grant Enfinger remains above the playoffs cutline in ninth position. A late race crash in Nashville set the driver back a little ways, but Enfinger still has a 39 point gap to the final position with only two races left in the regular season. The No. 23 team is currently one spot out of the owners’ points playoffs in eleventh position.
    • Driver Appearances: Grant will be signing autographs along with several other NCWTS drivers on race day at Mid-Ohio near the Championship Row Super Pavilion area in the infield from 11:00 AM – 11:45 AM local time. Fans are encouraged to stop by, take a photo, and get some autographs before the race! – Grant Enfinger Quote: “Racing at Mid-Ohio will provide us drivers with some new challenges, as most of us have never even seen the place before. I expect whoever can adapt the fastest will have a great shot at performing on Saturday. We have been working hard at our road course program on the No. 23 team, so hopefully we will be able to capitalize on that. These next two races at the end of the regular season are crucial for us, so Jeff and I have our heads down and are ready to give it our all with our Champion Power Equipment team.” – Jeff Hensley Quote: “I’m excited to kick off and restart my relationship working with Grant and the GMS Racing team this weekend. Going into Mid-Ohio, we will have controlled pit stops, which will eliminate some of our traditional road course strategy opportunities, so we will be chasing after stage points to help build a cushion to that playoffs cutline. We look to have a strong Champion Power Equipment Chevrolet under us throughout the weekend so we can capitalize on gaining as many points as possible.”

This Chevrolet was built for road course competition in 2021, and earned two top-10 finishes with Zane Smith at the wheel.
    • Double Duty Once Again: Wood will be able to get some additional seat time ahead of this weekend’s NCWTS race, as he is scheduled to compete in the ARCA Menards Series event on Friday. The ARCA race can be viewed live on FS1 or streamed on the FOX Sports App at 5:30 PM ET on July 8th.
    • Sunoco ROTY Update: A promising night at Nashville came to an abrupt stop early on for Jack Wood and the No. 24 team, setting them back in the chase for Sunoco Rookie Of The Year honors. Wood has since dropped to fourth place in the running order, but is only 20 points behind rookie leader Lawless Alan heading into Mid-Ohio. In the tight rookie battle, Jack trails third place by ten points, and second place by twelve.
    • Driver Appearances: Jack will be signing autographs along with several other NCWTS drivers on race day at Mid-Ohio near the Championship Row Super Pavilion area in the infield from 11:00 AM – 11:45 AM local time. Fans are encouraged to stop by, take a photo, and get some autographs before the race!
    • Jack Wood Quote: “I’m looking forward to getting the opportunity to race at a new venue in Mid-Ohio this weekend. Road courses have been some of my favorite tracks to drive on, and earlier in the year, I was able to test a TransAm TA2 car at the facility and really enjoyed it. Running a double duty schedule this weekend is going to be a challenge no doubt, but I believe that having some extra track time will be a huge benefit heading into Saturday. I’m hopeful that we will have a good run and turn our No. 24 team’s luck around.”

Corey Heim – No. 51 JBL Tundra TRD Pro Camping World Trucks Mid-Ohio Preview

Corey Heim: Driver, No. 51 JBL® Toyota

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Overview:
    Event: O’Reilly Auto Parts 150, Race 15 of 23, 67 Laps – 20/20/27; 151.28 Miles
Location: Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington (2.258-mile, 13-turn road course)
    Date/Broadcast: July 9, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. ET on FS1, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR 90

    The Story on Corey:

Corey Heim heads to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course Saturday for his first road course start in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series this season. Heim, who turned 20 on Tuesday, will be looking to bring home a little birthday week bonus at the 2.258-mile road course with it being the final race of the Triple Truck Challenge. The Georgia native cashed in on an extra $50,000 with his win at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway for the first leg of the Triple Truck Challenge. If he is able to get to victory lane on Saturday and win two of the three events, his bonus would increase to $150,000.

Saturday’s event will mark the first time that the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series has raced at the 2.258-mile, 13-turn road course, but will be Heim’s third trip to the track. The Toyota Racing Development driver captured the pole and went on to finish seventh in last year’s ARCA Menards Series event at Mid-Ohio. To get more track time before Saturday’s Truck Series race, Heim raced in the Trans Am Series TA2 division at Mid-Ohio on June 26. He started 16th and finished eighth in the 38-lap event. He has one road course start in Truck Series action, an 18th-place finish at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International last year.

Across seven Truck Series starts this season, Heim has produced two wins, 61 laps led, two top-five and three top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 18.6. The Georgia native picked up his first career Truck Series victory in just his fifth start earlier this season at Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway and was also victorious at Gateway. He has led at least one lap in four of his seven starts this season and qualified inside the top five for each of his last five starts.

With two victories across his first 10 Truck Series starts, the 19-year-old driver is one of just 12 drivers in series history to net multiple victories in their first 10 starts. Kasey Kahne and Mike Skinner each produced five victories, Mark Martin collected four wins, Ron Hornaday Jr., Ted Musgrave and William Byron brought home three checkered flags and Heim, Kyle Busch, Erik Jones, Rich Bickle, Clint Bowyer and Tony Stewart all delivered two wins.

Heim is competing for the 2022 Truck Series Sunoco Rookie of the Year award. Despite only having competed in seven of the 14 events so far this season, he sits second in the standings, eight points behind Lawless Alan. Heim will look to join three other KBM drivers that have won the award, reigning winner Chandler Smith, William Byron (2016) and Erik Jones (2015).

In addition to his part-time Truck Series schedule Heim is competing in a six-race schedule for Venturini Motorsports in the ARCA Menards Series. Heim led 74 of 90 laps en route to the victory at Daytona in February to pick up his eighth career ARCA Menards Series victory. Across 40 career ARCA Menards Series starts he has produced 659 laps led, 29 top-five and 38 top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 4.4. Heim finished second to Ty Gibbs in the 2021 ARCA Menards Series championship standings.

Mardy Lindley returned to KBM for his second season atop the pit box of the No. 51 team. Lindley has led his team to six wins since coming to KBM at the start of the 2021 season, including two with Heim and one with Kyle Busch this year. In 2021, his drivers produced three victories, two with Busch and one with Martin Truex Jr. Before arriving at KBM, Lindley guided his drivers to 32 wins and four ARCA Menards Series East championships since 2013, including back-to-back titles with Sam Mayer the last two seasons. Additionally, he earned the ARCA Menards Series Sioux Chief Showdown championship with Mayer in 2020. Lindley has called the shots for five races on road courses in Truck Series action recording one win, two top-five and two top-10 finishes. Kyle Busch collected the victory last month at Sonoma Raceway.

JBL, the authority in engineering superior sound, returns to KBM for an eighth season and will be the primary sponsor on Heim’s Toyota for 11 races this season including Saturday’s race at Mid-Ohio.

    Corey Heim, Driver Q&A:
Corey Heim | Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course Preview
What are your expectations heading into your first road course start of the season?
“I feel like our expectations are really high for this weekend. I’ve really made it a point to improve with these style of races – made a couple TA2 starts in the past year, including recently at Mid-Ohio. I’ve been there in a TA2 car and an ARCA car just getting laps and it’s the same course, so I’m hoping it’ll translate well. Really looking forward to it.”

You had a pole and a top-10 finish at Mid-Ohio in the ARCA Menards Series last year. Do you feel that the trucks will drive similar?
“I think it will be pretty similar based on all the sim work I’ve done in the last couple of months with my KBM team. Our JBL Tundra TRD Pro has been really good in sim and I feel like that has been a point of emphasis this year, as far as when we are really good in sim and I feel good about it, it translates very well to the real world as well. So, if it all translates well again, I think we’ll be really good.”

The 51 team had a near-win at COTA and a win with Kyle at Sonoma. Does that give you confidence heading into this weekend?
“For sure, Kyle (Busch) should’ve won COTA and did win Sonoma and think he led the most laps in both those races and had a lot of success. It’s definitely a privilege to be able to race a road course race with these guys with how fast they’ve been this year and hopefully that translates over for me as well.”

    Corey Heim Career Highlights:

    • Picked up first career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victory at Atlanta Motor Speedway March 19, 2022 in just his fifth start. Across 10 career starts has two wins, 63 laps led, two top-five and three top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 18.2.
    • Made three Truck Series starts in 2021 with a best result of 11th coming at Martinsville Speedway in October.
    • Finished runner-up in the ARCA Menards Series championship standings in 2021 after collecting six wins, three poles, 406 laps led, 16 top-five and 20 top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 3.1 across 20 starts.
    • Across 40 career ARCA Menards Series starts has eight wins, 659 laps led, 29 top-five and 38 top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 4.4. Picked up his first career ARCA Menards Series victory at Kansas Speedway Oct. 16, 2020.

Corey Heim’s No. 51 JBL Tundra TRD Pro:
KBM-71: The No. 51 JBL team will unload KBM-71 for Saturday’s race at Mid-Ohio. This is the same Tundra TRD Pro that KBM owner-driver Kyle Busch led 45 of 75 laps with en route to victory at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway last month. Busch also led a race-high 31 laps with it earlier this year at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Tex., but was relegated to a third-place finish after getting run over the course on the first lap of the second NASCAR overtime. John Hunter Nemechek finished second with KBM-71 in its maiden start last year at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International.

    KBM Notes of Interest:

    • Across 38 starts on road courses, KBM drivers have earned two wins, 15 top-five and 18 top-10 finishes, with an average starting position of 9.3 and an average finish of 11.7.
    • Owner-driver Kyle Busch earned his organization’s most recent road course win in June at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway. Erik Jones picked up KBM’s first road course victory in 2015 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Ont.
    • KBM holds the Camping World Truck Series records for most career wins (95) and most wins in a single season (14 in 2014). With his victory at Atlanta Motor Speedway Heim became the 18th different driver to win a Truck Series event for KBM. In addition to collecting a series-record seven Owner’s Championships, the organization has produced two championship-winning drivers: Erik Jones (2015) and Christopher Bell (2017).
    • With 40 victories, the No. 51 is the winningest number in KBM’s Truck Series fleet

Chandler Smith – No. 18 Safelite Tundra TRD Pro Camping World Trucks Mid-Ohio Preview

Chandler Smith: Driver, No. 18 Safelite® Toyota

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Overview:
    Event: O’Reilly Auto Parts 150, Race 15 of 23, 67 Laps – 20/20/27; 151.28 Miles
Location: Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington (2.258-mile, 13-turn road course)
    Date/Broadcast: July 9, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. ET on FS1, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR 90

    Chandler Chatter:
Chandler Smith and the No. 18 team head to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for Saturday’s O’Reilly Auto Parts 150. Smith will be looking to have a strong performance in front of over 200 guests that his primary sponsor Safelite will be hosting at the event. Safelite – the nation’s largest provider of vehicle glass repair, replacement and recalibration services – is headquartered about 60 miles southwest of the track in Columbus, Ohio. Safelite has been a primary sponsor at KBM since 2017 and has adorned the hood of Smith’s Toyota for all three of his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victories.

Saturday’s event will mark the first time that the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series has raced at the 2.258-mile, 13-turn road course. To prepare for Saturday’s event, Smith raced in the Trans Am Series TA2 division at Mid-Ohio on June 26. He was involved in an incident late in the race and finished 25th.

Smith has been solid on road courses this season in Truck Series action. He finished fifth at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Tex. in March and followed it up with another fifth-place finish last month at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway. He will be piloting the same Tundra TRD Pro, KBM-72, in Saturday’s race that he did in both of those events.

With two races remaining before the playoffs start, the 20-year-old driver finds himself fourth in the Truck Series point standings, 35 points behind Zane Smith. Smith is locked into the playoffs via his win earlier this season at Las Vegs (Nev.) Motor Speedway. Through the first 14 events of the season Smith ranks first among Truck Series regulars in laps completed (1885) and quality passes (527), second in average finish (9.1), third in driver rating (99.1) and average starting position (7.9), and fourth in average running position (9.281). He has produced one win, 96 laps led, six top-five and nine top-10 finishes in his sophomore campaign. With nine races remaining this season, Smith has already matched the number of top-five and top-10 finishes he had in 2021.

The Georgia driver earned NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Rookie of the Year honors in 2021 and finished eighth in the championship standings after producing two victories, one pole, 213 laps led, six top-five and nine top-10 finishes in his first full-time season. He earned his first career Truck Series victory at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway in September and in the series finale at Phoenix (Ariz.) Raceway earned his first career pole and swept all three stages en route to his second victory.

Across 52 career Truck Series starts, the Toyota Racing Development driver had recorded three wins, one pole, 402 laps led, 20 top-five and 27 top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 13.5.

In addition to his Truck Series schedule in 2022, Smith is competing in a three-race schedule with Sam Hunt Racing (SHR). Smith finished 38th in his series debut at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway after a mid-race wreck and finished 21st at Dover (Del.) Motor Speedway. His final race with SHR will come Oct. 22 at Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway.

Veteran crew chief Danny Stockman will once again call the shots for Smith and the No. 18 team in 2022. Stockman’s drivers have produced six victories at KBM across his first two seasons, including two with Smith behind the wheel in 2021. The veteran crew chief captured a Truck Series championship with Austin Dillon in 2011 and also won an Xfinity Series championship with Dillon in 2013. Stockman’s drivers have collected two top-five and two top-10 finishes in Xfinity Series action at Mid-Ohio. His best result was a runner-up finish with Daniel Hemric in the 2017 event.

    Chandler Smith, Driver Q&A:
You’ve finished fifth at both road courses this season. What do you contribute your success to?
“I’m no road course ace by any means, so I guess in past races it just had to be the lack of experience. Now that I’m getting laps under my belt, I’m getting better and better at it, and I’ve been trying a lot harder to master my craft on the road courses. I’ve still got a long way to go for sure, but after having a couple top fives now hopefully we can keep improving and work towards getting the Safelite Tundra TRD Pro in victory lane this weekend at Mid-Ohio.”

You recently competed in a TA2 race at Mid-Ohio. How beneficial will that be in getting you ready to race a truck there?
“Running the TA2 race at Mid-Ohio definitely helped a lot because I know how much grip the track actually has in it. I’ve been there before myself, so before that race all I had to go off was the TRD simulator. Now I actually have laps there in real life and that will be a big help with hopefully me being able to be up to speed quicker in practice and help Danny (Stockman, crew chief) and the guys get our Safelite Tundra TRD Pro dialed in for qualifying and the race.”

How cool will it be to have over 200 Safelite guests at the track this weekend cheering you on?
“It’s always cool to see as the Safelite associated at the race track having a good time. I’ve seen a lot of associates last year that were back again this year and a lot of them that are at the track for the first time. Having over 200 people come support me in their Safelite colors this week is going to be really cool. I can’t wait to see them all and hopefully we put on a good show for them.”

(ABC).
