    Driver Quotes

“I can’t wait to get to Nashville this weekend in our brand new Huck’s Market Chevrolet. It’s my first time at this race track so having a normal practice and being able to get seat time is going to be a huge help. This team had a really good run with Josh (Berry) last year, so hopefully we can match that, but be a few spots better so we can show everyone at Huck’s a great time.” – Sam Mayer

“I’m really looking forward to getting back to Nashville this weekend. We had a fast car here last season and I feel extremely confident that we can be just as quick when we unload for practice on Friday with our Hellmann’s Chevrolet. It was great to have these two weekends off to recharge and I know that Jason (Burdett, crew chief) and everyone on this JR Motorsports team is ready to get back to the track and see what we can do.” – Justin Allgaier

“Being back home in Nashville this weekend and seeing some family and friends is great. I thought I had a car capable of winning last year but a late caution caught us a lap down after green-flag stops and halted our progress back towards the front. We still came away with a top five but it would be really nice to get a win in front of the home crowd like we did a few weeks ago in Charlotte.” – Josh Berry

“The break was good for our Bass Pro Shops/TrueTimber/Black Rifle Coffee team, and we’re ready to get back after it this weekend at Nashville. We had a solid race last year, just battled some handling issues, and we earned a top-10 finish in our first time there. Luke (Lambert, crew chief) and our team are pumped to get back going this weekend.” – Noah Gragson

Jeremy Clements Racing going retro at Pocono, Fly and Form Concrete Structures to revive the Gray Ghost

Spartanburg, SC – JCR is excited to reveal that the Gray Ghost will make its return to the track at Pocono Raceway.

It was made famous by Buddy Baker when he won the 1980 Daytona 500, Bobby Allison in the 1981 season and Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the 2008 All-Star race.  Fly and Form Concrete Structures will revive this historic livery at the Tricky Triangle Saturday, July 23rd in the Pocono 225. This will be the second of three races that Fly and Form will be the primary sponsor on the No. 51 machine in2022.

“This is one bad-ass looking rocket ship we will have for Pocono. Ray said he wanted to do something a little different with this scheme for this race and he definitely came through!” Clements said. “We finished third here in 2020 with Fly and Formand I don’t see any reason we can’t put the Gray Ghost back in victory lane!” Clements went on to say.

“Being historians of the sport and appreciating the Clements winning pedigree starting with Jeremy’s grandfather Crawford, we wanted to throw back to the roots of NASCAR and what better way to honor Buddy Baker and Dale Earnhardt Jr. than to run the iconic Gray Ghost!” stated Ray Stevens from Fly and Form.

Joining Fly and Form as associate sponsors: Whitetail Smokeless, Elite Towing & Recovery, E3 Spark Plugs, Chalew, Upstate Body & Detail, Mechanix Wear, Wix Filters, Carolina Driveline and ZMAX.

Past Sonoma Truck Series Winners Named Grand Marshals & FaZe Faxuty Named Honorary Starter Of DoorDash 250 At Sonoma Raceway

SONOMA, Calif. (June 8, 2022) – It’s been 24 years since the last command to start engines has been roared through these hills for a truck series race, and on Saturday, June 11 we will be honored by all four of the past truck series winners for the DoorDash 250 when they give the command to start engines to the drivers.

The group will include Ron Hornaday Jr, who won the Subway 100 in 1995, Dave Rezendes, who won the Kragen 151 in 1996, Joe Ruttman, who won the Kragen/Exide 151 in 1997, and Boris Said, who won the most recent Kragen/Exide 151 race in 1998. The four former winners will also take part in an autograph session and a fan Q&A prior to the start of the DoorDash 250.

“NASCAR Trucks are back, and what better way to start the race than with the drivers that won it all here first,” said Sonoma Raceway EVP and General Manager Jill Gregory. “We know fans have been waiting for this day since we announced the truck race, and we’re all excited to see this new set of drivers take on this challenging course.”

In addition to all four past winners giving the command, Sonoma Raceway will have Mohammed Eid, better known as FaZe Faxuty by all 206k of his Twitch followers wave the green flag as the Honorary Starter for the inaugural DoorDash 250.

Faxuty is a content creator and live streamer on Twitch and YouTube who joined FaZe Clan after his fiery personality caught the organization’s eye during the #FaZe5 recruitment challenge. Born in Los Angeles and raised in Sacramento, Faxuty has had aspirations to be a renowned gamer since he was a kid. He started as a Call of Duty player and has since expanded into several other games and genres.

In September 2020, FaZe Clan, the lifestyle and media platform rooted in gaming and youth culture, held the #FaZe5 recruitment challenge which resulted in six new recruits each winning a spot in FaZe Clan. Among the hundreds that entered the competition was Faxuty, a streamer who had only begun seriously streaming six months prior.

While the pandemic proved to be a difficult time for many, it did result in some remarkable stories of growth for the 23-year-old who in less than a year went from pulling 10-hour shifts to support his family, to becoming part of an organization he once dreamed of joining. In December 2020, Faxuty was introduced as the latest member of the FaZe’s Fortnite clan, and now we have the pleasure of introducing him as an honorary starter to our race.

The DoorDash 250 will serve as the 12th race on the Truck Series schedule. Two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion and the Truck Series’ all-time winningest driver Kyle Busch will be among the entrants in this year’s race. The event will be part of a tripleheader weekend that includes the Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Cup Series race and General Tire 200 ARCA Menards Series West event.

For tickets or more information on the DoorDash 250, visit https://www.sonomaraceway.com/events/doordash-250-and-general-tire-200-doubleheader/ or call 800-870-RACE. Weekend and single-day tickets are available; race-day tickets for kids 12 and under are just free with the advance purchase of an adult ticket.

AJ Allmendinger Wins Inaugural NASCAR Xfinity Series Race at Portland
    Pacific Office Automation 147

AJ Allmendinger, No. 16 Nutrien Ag Solutions Chevrolet

    Start: 10th (To the Rear)
    Stage 1 Finish: 21st
    Stage 2 Finish: 8th
    Finish: 1st

“The men and women of Kaulig Racing deserve that. I was off the racetrack multiple times, made all kinds of mistakes and was all over the place. I’m so proud of everybody on this Nutrien Ag Solutions team. I put so much pressure on myself at these races, because I know what everybody expects, and I know what I expect out on myself. It might be one of the craziest wins I’ve ever had with the most mistakes ever to win. I won here 16 years ago this month for my first Champ Car race, so It’s surreal that I still get to do this, thanks to Matt Kaulig and Chris Rice. I’m thankful to all of our other partners for allowing us to do this. What a cool race.” – AJ Allmendinger

Daniel Hemric, No. 11 Cirkul Chevrolet

    Start: 3rd
    Stage 1 Finish: 4th
    Stage 2 Finish: 26th
    Finish: 6th

“It wasn’t the result we strive for, but with as many mistakes as I made during the weekend and the amount of attrition that went on during the race, I’m proud of how our group battled back to end up where we did. Overall it was a solid points day, and we will take the two off weekends coming up to regroup.” – Daniel Hemric

Landon Cassill, No. 10 StormX Chevrolet

    Start: 13th
    Stage 1 Finish: 8th
    Stage 2 Finish: 4th
    Finish: 15th

“Portland was a wild race for everyone. Overall, it was a well-executed race until the final ten laps. I’m really proud of my whole team and our effort all day to get me into the top five for some stage points. We just had some tough misfortune on the late restarts that set us back. To come out with a top 15 and stage points is not as bad as it could have been.” – Landon Cassill

Enjoy Illinois 300 presented by TicketSmarter

AJ Allmendinger, No. 16 Gold Fish Casino Slots Camaro ZL1

    Start: 35th
    Stage 1 Finish: 28th
    Stage 2 Finish: 21st
    Finish: 10th

“I’m really happy with today. I didn’t know what to expect with no practice or qualifying and the car having to be fixed. The team made the car better all day. Ultimately, we needed a little bit of track position, but we were really good at the end there. I’m proud of the effort from start to finish to get a top 10 to cap off a great weekend.” – AJ Allmendinger

Justin Haley, No. 31 LeafFilter Gutter Protection Camaro ZL1

    Start: 28th
    Stage 1 Finish: 31st
    Stage 2 Finish: 28th
    Finish: 14th

“We weren’t the best all day, but we had a good strategy at the end to recover for a good points day. I’m proud of everyone for the hard work to put us back into the top 15” – Justin Haley

    TOYOTA QUOTES

BRANDON JONES, No. 19 Menards Toyota GR Supra, Joe Gibbs Racing

    Finishing Position: 11th

    How was your race?

“All-in-all, pretty crazy day. We started out wet, kind of went dry toward the end of that and then it started raining again. We had two spins with our Menards Supra. All-in-all, I would say if you stay on the race track at this place when it rains, typically you are going to be in a really good position. We had to keep our speed up so much and a lot of people went off there towards the end. I will take P11. This was definitely a tough day. I think everybody at TRD did a good job preparing this week at the simulator and we will move forward here. I’ve got some good notes at road courses now.”

CONNOR MOSACK, No. 18 Open Eyes Toyota GR Supra, Joe Gibbs Racing

    Finishing Position: 28th

What is your takeaway from your Xfinity debut?

“I feel like we were having a good race. I knew I was leaving some speed out there, but we were just trying to make it to the end. Guys kept going off, so that just kept confirming to me that I don’t need to go any harder and we ran top-three for a lot of the race. One of the restarts I got in the water on the left side and started wheel-hopping really bad and I had to go in the chicane. I talked to Jason from NASCAR before when we ran around here the other day, and he said if you miss the chicane but still go over that inside curb, you would be okay, but they still made me to the drive through. I wasn’t real happy about that – telling me one thing, and doing something else. Then we got in the back and they started wrecking left and right and we kept getting in the middle of it and finally they just checked up right in front of me in the straightaway. I had nowhere to go, but our Open Eyes Supra was really good most of the race, and I felt like we would have had a shot in the end especially with a lot of the cars having damage.”

Do you feel like your background helped you this weekend?

“Just the length of the race is the main difference. I was racing the 9 (Noah Gragson) pretty hard early. I don’t think he was real happy, so I was going to let him go. I’m just used to racing hard all race – that was really the only thing that I felt like I needed to be aware of, but other than that, road racing has taught me how to approach a road course and it paid off.”

    Driver: Joe Graf Jr. (@JoeGrafJr)
Primary Partner(s): Bucked Up Buck Shot Energy
    Manufacturer: Ford Mustang
    Crew Chief: Joe Williams
    Spotter: TJ Bell
    2022 Driver Points Position: 26th | 2022 Owner Points Position: 22nd
    Engine: Roush Yates Engines (RYE)

    Notes of Interest:

Full of Energy: Bucked Up Energy Drink and its sister products will continue their role as the primary partner of Graf’s No. 07 Ford Mustang this weekend.

Portland International Raceway is the 11th race of 2022 but is the 42nd race overall in a multi-year, multi-race deal with the former ARCA Menards Series winner.

For the second time this year, the team will promote Bucked Up’s Buck Shot Energy

You don’t give up. Neither should your energy shot. Buck Shot is built from the ground up with one frame in mind. Building an energy shot that can hammer out as many hours of work as you already have to punch in. An energy shot that delivers quality, focused, clean energy.

    Dependable energy.

Buck Shot Energy. Because five is barely enough time to clip the red wire. You have too much to conquer to worry about zeroing out on energy—crashing. When your sights are set on energy, one good shot is all it takes. Buck Shot.

About Bucked Up Energy: Bucked Up started in 2013 when twin brothers Ryan and Jeff Gardner started marketing a product called Deer Antler Spray. After selling thousands of bottles to GNCs nationwide, the company morphed into what is now Bucked Up, a full-fledged vitamins and supplements manufacturer.

The company has gone from its humble beginnings to becoming the No. 1 best-selling pre-workout brand that’s available in over 10,000 stores worldwide.

Plenty Of Other Bucked Up Products Available Too: Don’t forget that Bucked Up Energy now offers more than 10 quenching options, but several of their popular flavors include Rocket Pop, Gym ‘N’ Juice, Mango Tango and Pink Lemonade now include low-stim options.

Low-stim has the same innovative ingredients that make their OG formula so powerful for focus, mood, motivation and energy. Bucked Up made just one small change and they have been surprised by the resulting epicness.

Boasting a modest of 100mg of caffeine, Bucked Up Low-Stim delivers the same energy, focus, mood, motivation – while reducing the common side effects that come from too-much caffeine, jitters, sleeplessness and anxiety.

Inaugural Xfinity Series Event: The thrills of NASCAR Xfinity Series racing will stop at Portland International Raceway (PIR) this weekend. The June 4, 2022, race event will mark the first appearance of a NASCAR national series in the Pacific Northwest since 2000.

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series visited both Portland International Raceway and Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Wash. that year.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series stop at PIR is not only a major victory for race fans throughout the Pacific Northwest, but also a major boost for the local economy.

The event has a projected total estimated economic impact of nearly $15 million.

Thanks For Your Support: With more than 42 percent of the 2022 Xfinity Series season complete, Joe Graf Jr. and SS GreenLight Racing with Jeff Lefcourt would like to thank their associate marketing partners AVOID, Bass Reaper Bait Company, CoverSeal, EAT SLEEP RACE Apparel, fgrACCEL, G-Coin, Gtechniq, HazHeart, Model Electronics and ShopRite for their continued support.

Settling In: Portland International Raceway marks the 14th race that the SS GreenLight Racing with Jeff Lefcourt (SSGLRwJL) team embraces their manufacturer switch from Chevrolet to Ford while incorporating its technical alliance with Stewart-Haas Racing.

SHR will supply the organization with race cars while Roush Yates Engines will provide the legendary Ford horsepower. In addition to providing race cars to SSGLRwJL, SHR will also provide technical support for the entire 33-race season.

Additionally, Graf will have NASCAR Cup Series and Stewart-Haas Racing drivers Cole Custer and Chase Briscoe as teammates for select events throughout the 2022 season.

Don’t Forget The New Partner Too: SS GreenLight Racing has added Jeff Lefcourt as a new co-owner of the Mooresville, N.C.-based team, as well as director of business development for the organization.

Lefcourt, a native of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. joins SS GreenLight Racing with Jeff Lefcourt (SSGLRwJL) with a long history of racing endeavors including owning Bethel (N.Y.) Motor Speedway in upstate New York, a current-NASCAR sanctioned race track.

The noted philanthropist, entrepreneur and real estate developer has deep ties to grassroots racing and was instrumental in helping secure the Stewart-Haas Racing alliance with SSGLRwJL in 2022.

Joe Graf Jr. Xfinity Series Portland International Raceway Stats: Joe Graf Jr. will make his inaugural NASCAR Xfinity Series debut at the 12-turn, 1.967-mile road course on Saturday afternoon.

Joe Graf Jr. Xfinity Series Career Road Course Stats: At tracks classified as a road course, Graf has competed in nine NASCAR Xfinity Series races. He holds an average starting position of 27.0 and an average result of 26.0.

Ready To Get Wet, If Needed: Traveling the West Coast, particularly in the regions of Oregon where the area is prone to wet weather, the NASCAR Xfinity Series race teams are prepared to race in the rain on Saturday afternoon if needed.

Goodyear will bring its 15-inch wet weather radials to Portland for use by Xfinity Series teams, should NASCAR decide that conditions warrant, teams will have five sets of wets available for the event, with a maximum of four sets for the race . . .

Goodyear is bringing the same wet tire that the series competed with at Circuit of the Americas in May 2021.

In addition to the obvious difference of a tread pattern versus Goodyear’s dry weather “slick” tires, the “Goodyear” and “Eagle” lettering on the sidewalls of the wet weather tires is white, not the standard yellow.

Graf has competed in one prior Xfinity Series race in the wet at the Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway ROVAL in October 2020, where he earned a strong top-15 finish in the No. 08 Watchonista Chevrolet Camaro.

Charlotte Motor Speedway | Alsco 300 Race Recap: In the most recent NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway, Graf and the SSGLRwJL team showcased the No. 07 Bucked Up Rocket Pop Energy Drink Ford Mustang in the highly anticipated Memorial Day weekend event.

After qualifying his car on time, Graf started the race in the 24th position and utilized the race to methodically move his race car inside the top-20, where he maintained his presence early in Stage 3.

Unfortunately, Graf was one of several drivers involved in a restart accident on Lap 109 that regulated the team to a disappointing 34th place finish.

Sneaker Mania: Along with the adrenaline of the Motorsports competition, Joe Graf Jr. also has a vogue for hype sneakers. In his current collection, he owns and wears at least 90 limited edition sneakers – and his collection continues to grow every month.

The current estimated value of his collection tops $100,000.

From the Pit Box: Industry veteran Joe Williams is Joe Graf Jr.’s crew chief.

He will crew chief his 79th NASCAR Xfinity Series race as crew chief on Saturday afternoon and his first at the track nestled in “Rose City.”

In his previous 78 NASCAR Xfinity Series starts, he has collected one win (Auto Club Speedway | February 2022), six top-five and 18 top-10 finishes.

Hello From The Other Side: Graf Jr. has a teammate at SS GreenLight Racing with Jeff Lefcourt. Veteran road racer Spencer Pumpelly will drive the No. 08 TicketSmarter Ford Mustang on Saturday afternoon for his first Xfinity Series start of the 2022 season.

Pumpelly, a veteran in the Sports Car World and has prior experience at Portland International Raceway will make his fourth Xfinity Series start of his career.

Last year, Pumpelly, 46, competed in three Xfinity Series races for JD Motorsports with Gary Keller earning a season-high 19th place finish at Circuit of the Americas (COTA).

    Joe Graf Jr. Pre-Race Quotes:

On Portland International Raceway: “I am sure I feel like most everyone else in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, I am not sure what to expect this weekend at Portland International Raceway. I’ve been doing what I can to prepare for this race, but it’s going to be a challenge for at least the first couple of laps in practice to find a rhythm and get in a comfort zone.

“The goal for the weekend is to keep getting faster from the start of practice to the checkered flag on Saturday afternoon.

“If we can do that and stay on the track, hopefully, we will leave Portland satisfied and ready to focus on Nashville later this month.”

On 2022 Season: “We’ve had some ups and downs in 2022, but the last three races, in particular, I really think we’ve made some headway with our SS GreenLight Racing with Jeff Lefcourt team.

“I know the finish does not reflect it, but we had a fast car at Charlotte Motor Speedway last weekend with our No. 07 Bucked Up Rocket Pop Energy Drink Ford Mustang. Circumstances beyond our control dictated the finish, not our hard work.

“It may not seem like a lot on the track, but to us, we’re seeing the vast improvements as we continue to adapt to our new technical alliance and I work harder on my craft with more aggressive setups.

“Portland is going to be a little different because of the style of racing we are set to embrace on Saturday, but I’m eager to get back to an oval and cement our presence in a good way for the upcoming summer stretch and second half of the 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series season.”

Hendrick Motorsports to enter three Xfinity Series races in 2022

HENDRICKCARS.COM TO SPONSOR NO. 17 ON ROAD COURSES

CONCORD, N.C. (June 2, 2022) – With primary sponsorship from HendrickCars.com, Hendrick Motorsports will enter three NASCAR Xfinity Series road-course races in 2022. The limited schedule will mark the first time in more than a decade that the 14-time NASCAR Cup Series championship-winning team has competed on the circuit.

Hendrick Motorsports will field its No. 17 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Camaro on July 2 at Road America with Kyle Larson, July 30 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course with Alex Bowman, and Aug. 20 at Watkins Glen International with William Byron. The three drivers have a combined 17 wins at the Xfinity Series level.

“Our drivers are always looking for more opportunities to compete,” said Jeff Andrews, president and general manager of Hendrick Motorsports. “We believe the additional road-course experience on Saturdays (in the Xfinity Series) will translate well to Sundays (in the Cup Series). It will be exciting to see the No. 17 return to the racetrack for Hendrick Motorsports, and we’ll do everything we can to take it back to victory lane.”

HendrickCars.com is Hendrick Automotive Group’s online destination for new and pre-owned vehicle shopping, locating centers for service and collision repair, exploring career opportunities, and learning about vehicle investment protection. It also sponsors Larson’s No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports team, NHRA champion Greg Anderson and other racing efforts at the grassroots level.

“It will be special to see the No. 17 back in action for Hendrick Motorsports,” said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports and chairman and CEO of Hendrick Automotive Group. “It’s a great chance for Kyle, Alex and William to gain more time on the road courses and to do even more with our HendrickCars.com sponsorship. I’m looking forward to running the Xfinity Series again.”

The three-race effort is headed by crew chief Kevin Meendering, who has three wins, 39 top-five finishes and 77 top-10s in the Xfinity Series. As a crew chief with JR Motorsports, he led driver Elliott Sadler to top-five results in the series standings from 2016-2018, including two second-place showings. Meendering and Sadler won the Xfinity Series regular season championship in 2017.

The No. 17 car number has a rich history with Hendrick Motorsports. NASCAR Hall of Famer Darrell Waltrip drove it to nine wins for the team from 1987 to 1990, including in the 1989 DAYTONA 500. The car number was also driven by Ricky Hendrick in various races, including in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2000 and 2001. The HendrickCars.com paint scheme will be based on the No. 17 truck driven by Hendrick during his 2001 rookie season.

Hendrick Motorsports most recently entered a race in the Xfinity Series on Feb. 14, 2009, at Daytona International Speedway, where driver Tony Stewart went to victory lane in a HendrickCars.com-sponsored Chevrolet. The organization has 26 wins and one driver’s championship (2003) in the series.

PORTLAND, Ore. (June 1, 2022) – Busch Light has been named the official beer of the Pacific Office Automation 147, the upcoming NASCAR Xfinity Series event at Portland International Raceway (PIR) on June 3-4, 2022.

The partnership between the inaugural NASCAR Xfinity Series race in Portland and Busch Light is a natural fit as Busch Light currently serves as the official beer of NASCAR. The light beer will be available to patrons at PIR during the race weekend, which marks the first NASCAR national series event in the Pacific Northwest in 22 years.

“As a local Portland operation, we are proud to be a part of this historic event,” said Robbie Maletis Jr., general manager of sales for Maletis Beverage, the local beverage distributor of Busch Light at the event. “It’s an exciting weekend ahead for us all as NASCAR racing returns to the Pacific Northwest. I look forward to seeing all the fans at PIR for some great stock car racing action.”

Busch Beer has a long history as a valued NASCAR partner. Highlights of the relationship that has extended over four decades include the introduction of the Busch Pole Award in 1978 and the creation of the Busch Light Clash in 1979. More recently, in February of 2022, the beverage company announced the launch of the Busch Light Accelerate Her program, a sponsorship initiative that takes aim at the inequity of resources available to women drivers in NASCAR.

“We are very excited to showcase an official partner of NASCAR like Busch Light at our event as we bring a NASCAR national series back to Portland,” said Jerry Jensen, general manager of Green Savoree Portland, which owns and operates the event at PIR. “Busch Light will be another great offering for race fans at a great racing weekend in the Pacific Northwest.”

The NASCAR Xfinity Series and ARCA Menards Series West will take to PIR the weekend of June 3-4. The Xfinity Series will get on track twice on Friday, June 3, for a late morning practice session and then qualifying happening late afternoon during “happy hour” to set the next day’s starting grid. On Saturday, June 4, the Pacific Office Automation 147, a 75-lap race covering 147.75 miles, will get underway at 1:30 p.m. PDT, followed by an ARCA Menards Series West 57-lap feature to cap off the two-day event.

Tickets to the 2022 Pacific Office Automation 147 are on sale now at nascarportland.com. Friday general admission is just $20, and Saturday’s price is $45. A 2-Day General Admission for both days provides the best value at $55. Children 12 and under are admitted free with a ticketed adult. Single Day Grandstand seats are also available at three different price levels securing the best vantage points at PIR.

For overnight visitors to the area, Travel Portland has organized a variety of local hotel accommodations and packages at special rates incorporating some of the most well known brands to unique boutique properties. The official host hotel of the weekend is the recently updated Holiday Inn Portland-Columbia Riverfront sitting in close proximity to PIR along the scenic Columbia River. Visit the “Travel Options” page of nascarportland.com to find out more on the accommodations and offers available.

Race fans are encouraged to discover all the natural wonders and events Portland has to offer by checking out TravelPortland.com. No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing

    NASCAR Xfinity Series Overview

    • Event: Pacific Office Automation 147 (Round 14 of 33)
    • Date: Saturday, June 4
    • Location: Portland (Ore.) International Raceway

    Riley Herbst Notes of Interest

    • Riley Herbst and his fellow NASCAR Xfinity Series drivers head to the Pacific Northwest this weekend for the inaugural Pacific Office Automation 147 at Portland (Ore.) International Raceway. The 75-lap race on Saturday around the 1.967-mile, 12-turn road course marks the first NASCAR national touring series race at Portland since the Camping World Truck Series competed there in 1999-2000. While the track hosts the Xfinity Series for the first time, it serves as the second of six road-course races on the 2022 schedule. In late March, the Xfinity Series made its first road-course stop of the year, competing at the 3.426-mile, 20-turn Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas. Herbst finished 26th in that race, one of only four finishes outside of the top-10 for him this season.

    • In the Xfinity Series’ last race at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway, Herbst saw his run of top-10 finishes come to an end. Prior to Charlotte, the driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing had tallied six straight top-10s, a run highlighted by a season-high third-place finish May 7 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway. Herbst appeared to be heading to increase his streak of top-10s to seven at Charlotte until a cut tire on lap 104 sent him into the turn three wall. Forced to pit for repairs, Herbst went four laps down. Nonetheless, he was able to return to the track and finish the race, coming home 25th and avoiding a dreaded DNF (Did Not Finish).

    • The Pacific Office Automation 147 will be Herbst’s milestone 90th career Xfinity Series start and his 13th on a road course. In his 12 previous road-course starts, Herbst has finished among the top-10 three times. His best result is seventh, earned twice – August 2020 on the Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway road course and July 2021 at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

    • In his entire Xfinity Series career, Herbst has earned 13 top-fives and 42 top-10s. His best career finish is second, earned twice – in February 2020 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California, and July 2020 at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta.

Riley Herbst, Driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang

A new week, a new track. Charlotte didn’t turn out how you would’ve liked, but you were still able to avoid a DNF. How do you bounce back after a tough race weekend?

“You have to learn what you can from the past weekend and move on, to be honest. There’s no use in dwelling on what went wrong and you just have to keep moving forward. There’s still a lot of racing left in the 2022 season and you can’t get caught up on one bad race. That’s been the biggest lesson I’ve had to learn. We’ve been performing well so far and we can continue to do so. You have good days and bad. It’s all about how you learn from it.”

We’re heading to Portland, a new track for the Xfinity Series. What are your thoughts heading into the race weekend?

“I’m excited to head to Portland. It’s a brand new track for the Xfinity Series and road courses are always fun. While I struggled at COTA (Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas) earlier this year, I’ve been in the simulator and working with my Monster Energy team on how I can get better. I scored some top-10 finishes last season on road courses, so I know this team can get the job done.”

While your top-10 streak ended, this season has been a big improvement from your first two seasons in the series. Talk about your season so far.

“We’re improving and we’re finishing races. That’s the most important thing. We want to win, but there’s also the points battle that we have to keep our eye on. If we can have another run like we had before the incident at Charlotte, we can keep climbing in the point standings and compete for wins. We have some things to work on, but I have confidence in this team.”
