    Race: Go Bowling 250
    Date: September 11, 2021

No. 22 CarShop Ford Mustang – Austin Cindric
    Start: 1st
    Stage 1: 3rd
    Stage 2: 6th
    Finish: 16th
    Status: Running
    Laps Completed: 250/250
    Laps Led: 50

Driver Point Standings (behind second): 2nd (-5)

    Notes:

    • Austin Cindric and the No. 22 CarShop Ford Mustang team lead 50 laps Saturday afternoon at Richmond Raceway but finished the Go Bowling 250 in 16th position after race strategy did not play out. Cindric remains in contention for the regular season championship, trailing leader AJ Allmendinger by five points with just one race remaining in the NASCAR Xfinity Series regular season.
    • The starting lineup was once again set per the NASCAR rule book, which gave Cindric the first starting position. The driver of the CarShop Ford Mustang showed speed early, maintaining the lead and running the fastest laps on the track. On lap 35, the competition caution was displayed with the team electing to remain on track. Cindric communicated that the CarShop Ford was tight and lacked forward drive. Throughout the remaining laps of the first 75 lap stage Cindric fell to the third position. During the stage caution, crew chief Brian Wilson called for an air pressure adjustment plus four tires and fuel.
    • A fast pitstop by the CarShop crew allowed Cindric to restart as the race leader once again. Over the long run, the CarShop Ford continued to lack drive and he fell to the sixth position. With three laps remaining in the second stage, Cindric avoided disaster when two lapped cars spun in front of him and brought out the caution prematurely to end the second stage, with Cindric still scored in sixth. Wilson once again called his driver to pit road during the stage caution for four tires, fuel, plus major adjustments to fix the tight handling condition on the CarShop Mustang, with the driver restarting sixth on lap 158.
    • Cindric fell to 11th before the sixth caution was displayed allowing the leaders to pit. Cindric received four fresh tires and adjustments on lap 184 and he restarted 18th. As the run continued, Cindric worked his way inside the top-five, running speeds comparable to the race leader.
    • The caution was displayed again on lap 223, putting the team at a tire disadvantage as they’d used their final set of new tires with other competitors having a set remaining. On the restart, Cindric fell to the 14th position before the ninth caution was displayed with the team electing to pit for scuff tires. Cindric restarted from the 24th position with seven laps remaining and gave it his all racing up to 16th at conclusion of the event.

Quote: “It just wasn’t in the cards for us today with our Carshop Ford Mustang. It felt like we had a top five car. We struggled to find an underlying strength and overlying weakness that we could kind of play to throughout the day. We probably just didn’t quite have enough in a few areas and we just kind of got behind there with the correct tire strategy. We did the right thing putting on tires at the end and kind of minimizing our loss at least points wise, so it was obviously the right move, but I thought today was gonna be a little bit better. This racetrack is one of those that it’s easy to have a bad day and not that I think we salvaged everything out of it because, like I said, I thought we were a top five car, but we never gave up.”

    TOYOTA QUOTES

JOHN HUNTER NEMECHEK, No. 26 Safeway Toyota Supra, Sam Hunt Racing

    Finishing Position: 3rd

Can you describe the racing out there today?

“It was overall a really solid day for our Safeway Toyota Supra for Sam Hunt. Just thankful for the opportunity from Sam, Toyota, all of our great partners that help us get to the racetrack. It was an off weekend for me in the Truck side, so good for me to put myself back in the seat. I felt like I learned a lot today for myself. In these Playoffs, it’s more about staying mentally tough. We were able to do so today. Racing was crazy. We were able to take a couple gambles I felt like and I’m glad the two cautions at the end there came out or we probably wouldn’t have finished where we did. Thankful for the opportunity. Looking forward to whatever is next. I don’t have any more with Sam this year, but who knows what the future holds.”

Top-five run, how was your day?

“Solid run. The Safeway Toyota Supra was fast. We were able to drive from the back there to the top-10. We ran top-10 pretty much all day. I don’t think we had enough of a car to win there, but we definitely made the most out of the day. Just validating Sam Hunt Racing’s equipment and it’s definitely fast. I wish we wouldn’t have got off on the first adjustment. I made the wrong call or asked for the wrong thing, thinking that is what I needed and it put us a little bit behind the eight ball, but overall really solid day for our Safeway Toyota Supra.”

How important was it to you to run well knowing you were running for a guy who was from here?

“It feels good. It’s nice to know that this is his hometrack and we were able to run really well. It’s nice for me to be in the seat with the weekend off as well.”

Is it nice to not have to think about points and you could just go for the win?

“Coming into today, if you would have asked Sam (Hunt), myself or any of the guys that we would have been a contender to win the race, we would have told you that we probably wouldn’t have thought so. We came in here hoping to run top-10 all day, and we were able to accomplish that and come home third. That means a lot to me and for this team being able to come on and be able to validate Sam’s equipment. We know the potential that it has now and everything played to our favor today, and that’s hard to do here at Richmond. Just thankful for the opportunity.”

SAM HUNT, Team Owner, Sam Hunt Racing

    Finishing Position: 3rd

What does this finish mean to you?

“I think the emotion stems from years of doing this the unconventional way, the hard way. To finally put it all together and see the product and to just really be a part of this thing and be a competitor is everything I’ve worked for. It’s surreal.”

    FORD FINISHING RESULTS
    5th — Riley Herbst
    13th — Ryan Sieg
    16th — Austin Cindric

RILEY HERBST, No. 98 Go Bowling Ford Mustang — “That was food for sure. I wish we didn’t get the late cautions there because maybe we could have stole a win, but all in all I think that’s what we needed going to Bristol next week. We maintained the points and hopefully we’ll go playoff racing back home.”

THE TIRE STRATEGY WORKED OUT FOR YOU DIDN’T IT? “That was all Richard, honestly. We were just playing defense because we couldn’t afford to have anybody else win, so we had to play defense instead of offense. Luckily, it paid off a little bit and it was a good deal.”

HOW DIFFERENT WAS IT ON FRESH TIRES BEING ABLE TO DRIVE THROUGH THERE? “It’s got a lot more grip, but with that being said it’s disappointing that we couldn’t get further than fifth. Like I said, maybe it would have been a different outcome with the different cautions.”

YOU BEAT THE 1, SO YOUR CUSHION IS A LITTLE BIGGER. HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT BRISTOL? “I feel good. We like Bristol. The 98 team won there last year, so we feel good. I just want to go home and go playoff racing.”

AUSTIN CINDRIC, No. 22 Carshop Ford Mustang — “It just wasn’t in the cards for us today with our Carshop Ford Mustang.

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT BRISTOL NEXT WEEK AND THE BATTLE WITH AJ? “I certainly have unfinished business at Bristol based on the last year, so I’m pretty hungry for that racetrack. Forget about the points, we’ve got to go out there and try and win the race, so if we can do that, I’ll be pretty happy one way or the other.”

Low-stim has the same innovative ingredients that make their OG formula so powerful for focus, mood, motivation and energy. Bucked Up made just one small change and they have been surprised by the resulting epicness. Boasting a modest of 100mg of caffeine, Bucked Up Low-Stim delivers the same energy, focus, mood, motivation – while reducing the common side effects that come from too much caffeine, jitters, sleeplessness and anxiety.

Races for Faces: Joe Graf Jr. announced in mid-August that for the second consecutive year, Graf will be virtually participating in myFace’s Races for Faces, an event to raise awareness for myFace, an organization that helps kids and families living with craniofacial differences.

Graf is encouraging in the industry along with race fans to join “Team Graf” and show your support of his mission.

While the virtual event will be held on Sept. 19., donations to “Team Graf” will be accepted through Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021.

Remembering 9.11 Twenty Years Later: The SS GreenLight Racing team and Joe Graf Jr. will pay tribute to the victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks during Saturday afternoon’s Go Bowling 250 at Richmond Raceway.

Graf’s No. 07 Chevrolet Camaro will carry a decal showcasing the 9/11 Memorial and Museum on a prominent location on their automobile.

Additionally, between Laps 9 – 11 during the race, the SS GreenLight Racing pit crew will unfurl both an American flag and a 9/11 Memorial and Museum flag and stand on the pit road wall.

Following Lap 11, the SSGLR team will display the flags from their pit stall location for the remainder of the race.

Fans in attendance will also be asked to stand in honor of the day during the three-lap tribute.

Seal Covered: Last month, Joe Graf Jr. welcomed new partner CoverSeal® to the SS GreenLight Racing team.

CoverSeal® —the standout cover option keeping vehicles and other outdoor investments safe from rodents and the weather will serve as associate marketing on the No. 07 Chevrolet Camaro for this weekend’s race at Richmond (Va.) Raceway and at Kansas Speedway next month.

At Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, however, on Sat., Oct. 30, 2021 — CoverSeal® will increase their commitment and serve as the primary marketing partner for the penultimate NASCAR Xfinity Series race of the season.

Saving You Some Money: As summer slowly starts to transition into fall, Joe Graf Jr.’s other marketing partner Z Grills wants to help the NASCAR community save money – but also enjoy the perfect barbecue.

In support of their recent partnership at Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway in July, Z Grills Racing (ZGrillsRacing.com) is offering a 10 percent discount off your TOTAL purchase, using the code NASCAR at checkout.

Joe Graf Jr. Xfinity Series Richmond Raceway Starts: Joe Graf Jr. will make his fourth career start at Richmond Raceway in Saturday afternoon’s race.

In his previous three efforts, Graf has delivered a career-best 14th place effort driving for Richard Childress Racing. Last September as part of a doubleheader weekend, Graf finished 19th and 27th respectively.

Joe Graf Jr. Xfinity Series Short Track Nuggets: At tracks classified as short tracks with a track length of under 1.0-mile, Graf has eight previous NASCAR Xfinity Series starts.

He holds an average starting position of 24.3 and an average result of 22.3 and has been running at the conclusion of seven of the eight races.

Darlington (S.C.) Raceway | Sport Clips Haircuts VFW Help A Hero 200 Race Recap: In the most recent NASCAR Xfinity Series race, Graf took advantage of a well-balanced No. 07 Bucked Up Energy Chevrolet Camaro to charge to a top-20 finish in his third career Xfinity Series start at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway.

The effort was a huge boost to Graf and the Joe Williams-led team after the team mounted their first top-20 finish since Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway in March.

Put Me In Coach: To strengthen his physique, Joe Graf Jr. began working with new trainer and former NASCAR Cup Series Josh Wise during the 2020 offseason.

In addition to Wise, Graf has also been working with former NASCAR driver and open-wheel driver Scott Speed on being more discipline behind the wheel of his No. 07 G-Coin Chevrolet Camaro.

Sneaker Mania: Along with the adrenaline of the Motorsports competition, Joe Graf Jr. also has a vogue for hype sneakers. In his current collection, he owns and wears at least 85 limited edition sneakers – and his collection continues to grow every month.

The current estimated value of his collection tops $90,000.

From the Pit Box: Industry veteran Joe Williams is Joe Graf Jr.’s crew chief.

He will crew chief his 57th NASCAR Xfinity Series race as crew chief on Saturday afternoon and his third at the 0.875-mile short track.

In his previous 56 NASCAR Xfinity Series starts, he has collected four top-five and 14 top-10 finishes.

Hello From The Other Side: Graf Jr. has a teammate at SS GreenLight Racing. Veteran JJ Yeley will drive the No. 17 Chevrolet Camaro on Saturday afternoon for his 10th start of the 2021 season.

Yeley is set to make his 345th career NASCAR Xfinity Series start and 24th at Richmond Raceway. His best Xfinity track finish occurred twice, but most recently in the 2016 ToyotaCare 250, where he finished 12th after starting 19th for TriStar Motorsports.

    Joe Graf Jr. Pre-Race Quotes:

On Richmond: “I’m looking forward to Richmond Raceway this weekend. Richmond is a track I’m very comfortable with and earned a solid top-15 finish in my track debut in 2019.

“Last fall, it was a doubleheader
weekend and while the Friday race was kinder to us than Saturday was, I still feel confident we can go and have a strong showing this weekend and propel our team forward as we approach the final stretch to the 2021 NASCAR Xfinity Series season.

“Saturday is also going to be a day of remembrance for us. It will be twenty years since the September 11th attacks and I feel like as a team we are proud to join NASCAR in their initiatives and remember those who lost their lives on that day.”

On Darlington Finish: “I am super proud of our SS GreenLight Racing team. We stayed on the lead lap for most of the race, got ourselves a break when we went a lap down and made our car better for the final run to the checkered flag.

“A top-20 finish felt like a win for us after the crummy season we’ve had and we’re taking this momentum to Richmond and hopeful we can back it up with another top-20 finish or better on Saturday.”

    NASCAR Xfinity Series Overview

    • Event: Go Bowling 250 (Round 25 of 33)
    • Date: Saturday, Sept. 11
    • Location: Richmond (Va.) Raceway
    • Layout: .75-mile oval
    • Time/TV/Radio: 2:30 p.m. EDT on NBCSN/MRN/SiriusXM NASCAR Radio

    Riley Herbst Notes of Interest

    • It’s all Go Bowling all the time, as the consumer-facing brand of the bowling industry will adorn on the hood of Riley Herbst’s No. 98 Ford Mustang in Saturday’s Go Bowling 250 NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Richmond (Va.) Raceway. Go Bowling has been a partner of Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) since 2018, and its entitlement of the Xfinity Series race at Richmond began the same year. SHR has always fielded a Go Bowling Ford Mustang in the Go Bowling 250, and it was Cole Custer who delivered the best result, finishing third in 2019. Go Bowling leverages the partnership to promote its Go Bowling America league program, which provides bowlers of all age groups the opportunity to bowl in a fun, non-competitive league and receive a new, entry-level performance bowling ball. For details and to find a participating bowling center, visit www.GoBowling.com.
    • The Go Bowling 250 will mark Herbst’s fourth career Xfinity Series start at Richmond. In his three previous Xfinity Series starts at the .75-mile oval, Herbst has scored two top-10s. He earned a best finish of ninth in his first start at the track in September 2019 and followed it up with a 10th-place drive in the first race of the Richmond doubleheader last September. Herbst was on his way to another good finish in the second race of the doubleheader when an accident took him out of the race just 23 laps shy of the finish.
    • Heading into the Xfinity Series’ prior race last Saturday at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway, Herbst had scored back-to-back top-10 finishes and was charging toward another top-10 at the “Track Too Tough To Tame” until lap 107. That’s when the car of Tommy Joe Martins slowed abruptly on the backstretch and Herbst, with nowhere to go, collided with Martins. Herbst and Martins were both OK, but their racecars were not. For Herbst, that meant a once promising day turned into a dismal 38th-place finish.
    • Despite the result at Darlington, Herbst remained well above the top-12 cutline to make the seven-race playoffs that start Sept. 25 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Thanks to a string of solid finishes beginning with a 10th-place drive July 17 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, Herbst erased a 54-point deficit to not only climb back into the top-12, but secure a 46-point margin over 13th-place Michael Annett. A win Saturday at Richmond would automatically advance Herbst into the playoffs, but the 22-year-old racer from Las Vegas can continue to point his way into championship contention by starting a new top-10 streak through the regular-season finale Sept. 17 at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway.

Riley Herbst, Driver of the No. 98 Go Bowling Ford Mustang

Richmond has been a good track for you in the past as you scored top-10s in your first two starts there. What do you need to do this weekend to get a good finish and compete for the win?

“Richmond’s definitely been good to me in the past, but it’s also a tough short track. I’m hoping we can get back on track there this weekend after a tough weekend at Darlington. We’ll have some work to do, but we need to focus on getting the points we need. A win would be the ideal situation, but I’m hoping to use my experience at Richmond to bring home a top-10 for this team.”

The playoffs are only two races away and, despite being in an accident last weekend at Darlington, you’re still 46 points above the top-12 cutline to make the playoffs. What do you need to do to stay there?

“We definitely didn’t want that finish last weekend, but we’re still above the cutline. The plan now is to stay there and get more of a cushion heading into Bristol next week. We were on a top-10 streak there and I was hoping to keep that up, but Darlington lived up to its nickname of being ‘Too Tough To Tame.’ Now we have to get focused and really go for stage points and get some good finishes in the final two races of the regular season.”

You have a new partner on the car this weekend in Go Bowling, and they’re also the title sponsor of the race. How good would it feel to deliver a win to them?

“I’m excited to have Go Bowling on my car this Saturday. I’m thankful for their support on our Ford Mustang. They’ve been with SHR for a few years now, and it’s awesome that they’re going to be on our car for the Go Bowling 250. I want to get them a good finish but, most of all, I want to put their car in victory lane for their race. That would be the ultimate goal.”

TradeTheChain.com and SENT Extend Partnership with BMS and Brandon Brown, Becoming Second NASCAR Driver and Team to be Paid Entirely in Crypto

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (September 8, 2021) – Brandonbilt Motorsports (BMS) is proud to announce its latest season-long partnership aboard the No. 68 NASCAR Xfinity Series Chevrolet Camaro driven by Brandon Brown.

TradeTheChain.com, a global community of crypto traders and enthusiasts, and SENT first joined the team as a primary sponsor for the last weekend’s race at Darlington Raceway; and since then, have rejoined the team as the primary partner for this weekend’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Richmond Raceway as well as the September 25 race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and the October 23 race at Kansas Motor Speedway.

“I am so excited to formally announce that the rest of our season is sold out and that we’ve brought on two great partners with TradetheChain.com and SENT,” said Brown. ‘This is huge for a team like ours which now allows us the opportunity to upgrade our equipment, increase our staff and make us that much more competitive. Getting to work with Alex Mascioli, Ryan Gorman, and their team has been phenomenal because they have a passion for motorsports and want to be competitive, just like we do.”

TradeTheChain.com and SENT join The Original Larry’s Hard Lemonade, Jabs Construction, GreenTech Energy, Good Sam, Midwest Moving Company, KickinTheTires.net, The Garrett Companies, Sim Seats and Baby Doge Coin, as well as two additional partners that have yet to be announced to complete the 2021 season of primary partnerships as Brown prepares to battle for a spot in the NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoffs with two races remaining in the regular season. TradeTheChain.com will also become a season-long associate partner aboard Brown’s No. 68 Chevrolet Camaro.

“TradeTheChain.com and NASCAR are largely cut from the same fabric – community driven, fan focused, and focused on individual experiences,” said TradeTheChain.com co-founder, Alex Mascioli. “Brandon is up and coming, and the opportunity to grow with him for this season and, hopefully, beyond, was too good to pass up. We couldn’t be happier.”

Brown admits that he is fairly new to the world of crypto currency, however with help from TradeTheChain.com’s community and actionable data sets, including real-time alerts, sentiment analysis, one-hour price predictions, and the SENT team, he looks to quickly become an integral spokesperson for their brands throughout the remainder of the season and beyond.

“I personally feel like this is the beginning of a great partnership as it’s bringing a newer market to the NASCAR fanbase with the growing popularity of cryptocurrencies,” continued Brown. “This partnership was brought together by a culmination of being as active as we are on the racetrack as well as off of it in the social media and marketing realms and I think that TradeTheChain.com and SENT really bring the same level of excitement and passion to the crypto market that we do to the racing industry, so I think that this partnership is going to be a great fit.”

The No. 68 TradeTheChain.com / SENT Chevrolet Camaro will sport a brand-new livery this weekend which plays off of the eye-catching green, black and white colors of their company logos. You can see Brandon Brown on-track at Richmond Raceway this Saturday, September 11 at 3:30 p.m. ET with live race coverage on NBCSN.

    About Brandonbilt Motorsports

Brandonbilt Motorsports is a family-owned, professional stock car team competing full-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS). Owned and operated by Woodbridge, Virginia native, Jerry Brown, Brandonbilt Motorsports has quickly become a household name in the NASCAR Xfinity Series through hard work and determination. As a smaller team in the NXS, Brandonbilt Motorsports’ goal has always been to do the most with less, while also becoming a contending organization in every race that it enters. Brandonbilt Motorsports shocked the racing world in 2020 as driver, Brandon Brown, secured the team’s first playoff berth in only its second, full-time season in the NXS, before going on to finish the year 11th in the overall points standings. On the horizon in 2021, Brandonbilt Motorsports looks to pick up where it left off as a playoff-caliber team at each event it enters. To learn more, visit www.bmsraceteam.com.

    Driver Quotes

“We cut into the point deficit last week at Darlington and it could have been even more. We know we have more work to do, and with the cars that Bummy (crew chief Mike Bumgarner) and the No. 1 team have been giving me, we have that chance. Our No. 1 Pilot Flying J #ThankATrucker Chevrolet was really good last time we were here, hopefully we can unload with that same speed again this weekend.” – Michael Annett

“I’m really looking forward to getting back to Richmond on Saturday with our BRANDT Professional Agriculture Chevrolet. We were really strong here in both races last year, and I feel confident we can repeat that same success this weekend and get back into Victory Lane and come away with maximum points. The playoffs are right around the corner and every point matters. Hopefully we can have a smooth day and be in the right position at the end to fight for the victory.” – Justin Allgaier

“I always have a lot of fun when I come back for my one race a year in this series. Richmond is one of my favorite tracks, and it’s one I’ve had a lot of success at in the past. I know that Taylor (Moyer, crew chief) and the entire No. 8 team will unload a fast Camaro and hopefully we’ll have a shot at it towards the end of the race.” – Dale Earnhardt Jr.

“It felt really good to finally get the first win of the season last weekend and Richmond is another track that has been really good to this No. 9 Bass Pro Shops/TrueTimber/Black Rifle Coffee team. We’ve led some laps and have consistently raced inside of the top 10. We finished eighth and fifth here last year, so hopefully we can continue this strong run and finish a few spots better again this weekend.” – Noah Gragson

    • Standing United: Never forget. That was the vow made by Americans following the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001. JR Motorsports and long-time partner Unilever are standing united in that promise. Dale Earnhardt, Jr.’s 2021 return to the No. 8 Chevrolet will come in the NASCAR Xfinity Series event at Richmond Raceway on Sept. 11 – the 20th Anniversary of the terror attacks – where the NASCAR Hall of Famer will drive a special United for America paint scheme honoring the victims of 9/11.

    Start: 24th
    Stage 1: 7th
    Stage 2: 3rd
    Finish: 3rd
    Status: Running
    Laps Completed: 152/152
    Laps Led: 1
Driver Point Standings (behind second): 2nd (-1)

    Notes:

    • Consistency was key for Austin Cindric and the No. 22 Snap-on Ford team Saturday afternoon at Darlington Raceway. Cindric was rewarded with a third-place finish, his best in six previous starts at the historic, egg-shaped oval. He closed within just one point of championship leader AJ Allmendinger with just two races left in the battle for the NASCAR Xfinity Series regular season championship.
    • The starting lineup was once again set per the NASCAR rule book, which gave Cindric the 24th-place starting position. The driver of the Snap-on Ford showed speed early, steadily working his way through traffic. Cindric was up to 10th position by the competition caution on lap 20. The balance on the No. 22 Mustang was a little tight for Cindric over the remaining laps of the segment and he was credited with a seventh-place finish when Stage 1 concluded on lap 45. During the stage caution, crew chief Brian Wilson called for an air pressure adjustment plus four tires and fuel and Cindric restarted sixth on lap 53.
    • He gained three positions on the restart following the fourth caution on lap 64, moving up to third. Cindric held firm to the position despite the close, side-by-side racing during the remainder of the stage – including a three-wide scramble on the final lap – to finish third in Stage 2. Wilson once again called his driver to pit road during the stage caution for four tires, fuel, plus tape and restarted fourth on lap 97.
    • The sixth caution on lap 110 set up a round of pit stops among the leaders. The Snap-on Mustang received four fresh tires, and fuel and Cindric restarted seventh when the race went green on lap 115. He appeared destined to finish sixth until the seventh yellow in lap 139 changed his fortune. Cindric pitted for four tires and an air pressure adjustment to help his car turn better. He lined up seventh for the restart on lap 142 two laps later was running second behind race leader Noah Gragson.
    • The eighth caution on lap 146 pushed the race in NASCAR Overtime and gave Cindric a chance to win the race. He restarted outside race leader Gragson but was shuffled back to third at the drop of the green flag. Cindric collected his best finish at Darlington and his 15th top-five finish in 24 starts this season.

Quote: “I feel like the bottom was definitely the place to be for just the launch, especially for the front row. I knew the outside was the safe play. From there, I thought we had a really good long run car. I’m proud of what we gained today with the Snap-on Ford Mustang. It’s definitely the best race I feel like I’ve had at Darlington, just having the strength, and not having too many weaknesses. As a team, that takes a lot of conversations throughout the week to try to get that right, so we righted a lot of wrongs for me at this racetrack today. I feel good about that.”

Race Winner: Noah Gragson of JR Motorsports (Chevrolet)
Stage 1 Winner: Daniel Hemric of Joe Gibbs Racing (Toyota)
Stage 2 Winner: Noah Gragson of JR Motorsports (Chevrolet)

    Overview:

Trouble found Riley Herbst and the No. 98 Monster Energy team again in Saturday’s Sports Clips Haircuts VFW Help A Hero 200 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway after an accident ended the team’s day early and led to a 38th-place finish. The Las Vegas native was on a mission for a good finish from the drop of the green flag. He started seventh and, despite reporting an ill-handling racecar, Herbst continued to hold his position in the opening laps. The No. 98 Monster Energy driver ran in the top-10 for a majority of Stage 1 until his loose Ford Mustang caused him to fall back to 12th, where he ended the stage. When the caution came out on lap 45, crew chief Richard Boswell brought his driver down pit road for four tires, fuel and a major air-pressure adjustment to combat the balance issues. The Monster Energy team gained him three spots on pit road to restart seventh for Stage 2 on lap 53. On the restart, Herbst fought to stay in the top-10 but reported that his Ford Mustang needed more front turn. He fell back to 12th but surged forward in the final six laps of the stage as the front end of the car started to come back to him. Ultimately, he would end up 11th in the second stage. During the stage break, Herbst came down pit road for four fresh tires, fuel and another air-pressure adjustment. Unfortunately, Herbst was forced to come down pit road a second time to work on his Ford Mustang. He restarted the final stage 29th and didn’t waste time in his drive back to the front. He broke into the top-20 on lap 106, just eight laps after the start of the final stage. On lap 107, Herbst was continuing his race to the front when the No. 44 of Tommy Joe Martins slowed on the track in front of him. With nowhere to go, the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang collided with the back of the slow car. The team would have to end its day 40 laps short of the scheduled race distance.

Riley Herbst, driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing:

“I’m fine. I really wanted to see the replay before I comment any further, but I didn’t know why they were stopping in the center of the straightaway at Darlington. That’s kind of crazy, but I think we’re still good on points and hopefully we can go to Richmond with that cushion. Hopefully, we can gain a few more points there and then we’ll be a little bit more comfortable for Bristol. It was up-and-down, for sure. We definitely got better there at the end and we had decent pace. It’s just frustrating why somebody is stopping on the back straightaway.”

    Notes:

    ● Noah Gragson won the Sport Clips Haircuts VFW Help A Hero 200 to score his third career Xfinity Series victory, his first of the season and his first at Darlington. His margin over second-place Harrison Burton was .219 of a second.
    ● There were eight caution periods for a total of 41 laps.
    ● Twenty-seven of the 40 drivers in the Sport Clips Haircuts VFW Help A Hero 200 finished on the lead lap.
    ● AJ Allmendinger remains the championship leader after Darlington with a one-point advantage over second-place Austin Cindric

    Next Up:

The next event on the Xfinity Series schedule is the Go Bowling 250 on Saturday, Sept. 11 at Richmond (Va.) Raceway. The race starts at 2:30 p.m. EDT with live coverage provided by NBCSN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
