Myatt Snider and the No. 2 Crosley Brands Team Earn Solid Top-10 Finish at Darlington Raceway

    Finish: 9th
    Start: 9th
    Points: 12th

“Today was a solid ninth-place finish for our Crosley Brands Chevrolet team. I thought our Camaro had really good speed, but I lacked the stability in the center of the corners to keep the momentum going. We consistently ran inside the top-10 and if the last cautions would have fallen a little differently, I think we would have had a shot at a top-five. A consistent finish like this is exactly what our Richard Childress Racing team needs to keep doing leading up to the Playoffs. I’m proud of this group for battling all day, in the heat, and we will continue to chip away at building a solid foundation over the next two weeks.”

BURTON OH SO CLOSE AT DARLINGTON WITH RUNNER-UP RESULT
Harrison Burton Claims Second-Place Finish in Overtime Finish

DARLINGTON, SC. (September 4, 2021) – Harrison Burton (second) was the top Toyota in Saturday afternoon’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Darlington Raceway in South Carolina. Burton battled race winner, Noah Gragson, in the final laps, but came up just shy of the victory when the checkered flag waved. Fellow Toyota driver Denny Hamlin led 43 laps (of 147), but a late race pit road penalty forced him to start at the rear with three laps remaining.

    TOYOTA QUOTES

HARRISON BURTON, No. 20 DEX Imaging Toyota Supra, Joe Gibbs Racing

    Finishing Position: 2nd

Can you describe how the race unfolded for you?

“I’m just upset. I really wanted to win here. This place means a lot to me. It’s fun to run well here, but it sucks to not win here. We’ll keep digging at it. This is a really resiliant race team. We were without our crew chief, Jason Ratcliff who was at home today. Everyone stepped up on the race team and prepared the car well. Obviously, we were really fast today. Good job everybody at the shop and we’ll keep plugging away at it. These next few races are really good for us. This was one that I thought would be good for us as well. Our DEX Imaging Supra was good and just needed a better launch there at the end to stay close. Just frustrated.”

What did you need on the final restart to get the win?

“I don’t know. I did a bad job the launch beforehand, which I guess didn’t really affect us on the last one. If I couldn’t be leading, I wanted to be second row inside and we got that. Gosh, I don’t know. We needed some more speed in one and two. I don’t really know how to get it. Three and four was phenomenal all day, that was our strong suit. Just fought really hard today. Our crew chief, Jason Ratcliff is at home and we wanted to win for him at home. Our engineer normally was our crew chief today and did a great job. Our whole team really rallied together. Good result, but sad. I just love this place and I wanted to win here really bad.”

When you’re that close, does it make it worse to finish second?

“Oh yeah, definitely. I was trying to do Texas part two with Noah (Gragson) and try to get him on the last corner and just fell short. Hats off to them, they’ve been fast here all year really. They were fast earlier and now they’ve won. Just wanted this one really bad and frustrated to not get it, but our DEX Imaging Supra team will keep digging.”

Have you noticed changes in your team leading to the consistent runs in recent weeks?

“We’re a team with a bunch of winners. Everyone on this team has either won together or won some other place at different levels. A lot of guys have Cup experience. I feel like we just have that experience when it comes time to get to The Playoffs, we’re going to be really dangerous and run more like we have recently. Mentally, I’ve been treating these last few races as if they’re the first round of the Playoffs because the situation we’ve kind of put ourselves in without winning throughout the season has kind of made it to where it’s going to be a long road and I have to be perfect. Matching that intensity now is the whole deal and trying to continue that.”

What did you think of the new ‘grip strip’ pavement in turn two?

“It was really fun to drive. It presented some challenges because normally your whole corner through there is setup to make that part of the race track where you can just get through it more or less. It’s such an awkward angle and now it’s like, ‘Oh, I just need to get through this and get to the grip strip and I’m good.’ It sorts you out. It shifted the focus from the place where they paved it to now through the center of that corner. This place entering the center through one and two has always been wild. That was kind of my weak spot today balance-wise in the car, but I think it’s going to be fun to watch tomorrow and I’m excited to stay and watch the Cup race tomorrow. Watch those guys get through it, it will be a good show.”

    FORD FINISHING RESULTS
    3rd — Austin Cindric
    11th — Ryan Sieg
    38th — Riley Herbst

AUSTIN CINDRIC, No. 22 Snap-On Ford Mustang — WHAT HAPPENED ON THE LAST RESTART? “I feel like the bottom was definitely the place to be for just the launch, especially for the front row. I feel like Noah went two or three car lengths too early. I’d have to watch the replay to be 100 percent certain, but perhaps I could have seen that coming and then the other side of me is like, ‘I don’t want to get a penalty because that’s spots in points.’ I knew the outside was the safe play. From there, I thought we had a really good long run car. We struggled to gain track position all day. We did a solid job all day trying to execute but we weren’t perfect. I’m proud of what we gained today with the Snap-On Ford Mustang. It’s definitely the best race I feel like I”ve had at Darlington, just having the strength and not having too many weaknesses. As a team, that takes a lot of conversations throughout the week to try to get that right, so we righted a lot of wrongs for me at this racetrack today. I feel good about that.”

YOU FINISHED 3RD WHILE AJ HAD SOME ISSUES WITH A LOOSE WHEEL. HOW BIG IS THAT AS YOU GUYS BATTLE FOR THE REGULAR SEASON TITLE? “It’s gonna be a fun two weeks.”

CAN YOU TALK ABOUT THE NEW GRIP STRIP IN TURN TWO AND IF IT WAS WHAT YOU EXPECTED? “Today when we showed up it was a construction site and now it’s a racetrack. That’s the way I see it. It’s dirty. It’s new asphalt. We’re the first cars to run on it. It gained grip throughout the day. It got cleaned throughout the day. It got more raceable throughout the day. I don’t think it will be much of a story line tomorrow. You can make the argument that it can make it harder to pass, but you can also make the argument that it helps the bottom lane hang in on restarts off of two. There are pros and cons, but it seems like something the track needed to do and I see no problem with it.”

WHAT ABOUT THE TRANSITION FROM THAT NEW ASPHALT TO THE OLD? “There was a little bit of bump on transition and exit, but I think they did a good job of making that transition smooth. We’ll see how that plays out over time as the asphalt settles, but they did a good job for the weekend.”

HOW IMPORTANT IS THE REGULAR SEASON TITLE FOR YOU AND TEAM PENSKE? “It’s the equivalent of three wins. I see those playoff points invaluable.”

RILEY HERBST, No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang — “I’m fine. I really want to see the replay before I comment any further, but I don’t know why they were stopping in the center of the straightaway at Darlington. That’s kind of crazy, but I think we’re 443points or so and hopefully we can go to Richmond with that cushion. Hopefully, we can gain a few more points there and then we’ll be a little bit more comfortable for Bristol.”

HOW WAS YOUR DAY TO THAT POINT? “It was up-and-down, for sure. We definitely got it better there at the end and we had decent pace. It’s just frustrating why somebody is stopping on the back straightaway.”

    Brown on Darlington:

“Darlington Raceway is one of my favorite race tracks on the NASCAR circuit. It’s such a driver’s track where skill and experience really come into play. You want to race hard every lap, but you also need to know when to save your equipment and try not to use up your tires too early in a run. I get really excited every time we come here.

“What makes this weekend even more special is the fact that we have a brand new partner coming on board our No. 68 Chevrolet Camaro. Today, you’ll see the green, white and black colors of TradeTheChain.com and SENT on our race car. The crypto market has been steadily growing within the racing industry and I’m extremely proud to welcome Alex, Ryan and the entire TradeTheChain.com and SENT organizations to the team.

“This week, I’ve done a lot of reflecting over the past few races where things haven’t quite gone our way. It’s certainly been a difficult month and I’ve had to try and accept that the struggles in racing will come and go, so hopefully today we can turn our luck around and find success; especially for TradeTheChain.com and SENT. No. 07 SS GreenLight Racing Team:
    Driver: Joe Graf Jr. (@JoeGrafJr)
    Primary Partner(s): Bucked Up Energy
    Manufacturer: Chevrolet Camaro
    Crew Chief: Joe Williams
Sport Clips Haircuts Help A Hero 200 Starting Position: 32nd (Event Formula)
Driver Points Position: 32nd | Owner Points Position: 38th
    Engine: Earnhardt-Childress Racing Engines (ECR)

    Notes of Interest:

Full of Energy: Bucked Up Energy and its sister products will continue their role as the primary partner of Graf’s No. 07 Chevrolet Camaro this weekend.

Darlington Raceway is the seventh race of 2021 but is the 29th race overall in a multi-year, multi-race deal with the former ARCA Menards Series winner.

Bucked Up is the everyman (or woman) energy drink. We don’t care about the color of your collar; whether blue or white, we all require energy to power our days. We want something that tastes like success, enhances mood and focus, and most of all delivers long-lasting energy.

Bucked Up Energy New Flavors: Bucked Up Energy is now available in 10 different flavors including four recently released new flavors.

Gym n’ Juice pays homage to those classic west coast vibes with a citrusy, smooth flavor that is sure to drive you back to the early-coastal ‘90s.

Bucked Up Energy Strawberry-Kiwi features two delicious flavors fused to form one. The result — a zero sugar, solar-sweet source of energy so abundant the world might actually start revolving around you.
Pink lemonade prodigies innovate, fusing an otherwise basic beverage with refreshing cranberry, and thinly sliced lemons, for garnish — earning its sweet, refreshing, and jubilant. And yet, miraculously sugar-free taste.

Mango Tango tastes like a well-placed double entendre — two meanings, up to your interpretation. Perhaps, it’s a melodic, upbeat fiesta of juicy goodness pulling sultry-sweet dance moves on your tongue. Or we could be using Tango as code, letting you decide the most fitting “T” descriptive word.

Seal Covered: Last week, Joe Graf Jr. welcomed new partner CoverSeal® to the SS GreenLight Racing team.

CoverSeal® —the standout cover option keeping vehicles and other outdoor investments safe from rodents and the weather will serve as associate marketing on the No. 07 Chevrolet Camaro for upcoming events at Richmond (Va.) Raceway next weekend and at Kansas Speedway in October.

At Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, however, on Sat., Oct. 30, 2021 — CoverSeal® will increase their commitment and serve as the primary marketing partner for the penultimate NASCAR Xfinity Series race of the season.

Races for Faces: Joe Graf Jr. announced in mid-August that for the second consecutive year, Graf will be virtually participating in myFace’s Races for Faces, an event to raise awareness for myFace, an organization that helps kids and families living with craniofacial differences.

Graf is encouraging in the industry along with race fans to join “Team Graf” and show your support of his mission.

While the virtual event will be held on Sept. 19., donations to “Team Graf” will be accepted through Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021.

Saving You Some Money: As summer slowly starts to transition into fall, Joe Graf Jr.’s other marketing partner Z Grills wants to help the NASCAR community save money – but also enjoy the perfect barbecue.

In support of their recent partnership at Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway in July, Z Grills Racing (ZGrillsRacing.com) is offering a 10 percent discount off your TOTAL purchase, using the code NASCAR at checkout.

Joe Graf Jr. Xfinity Series Darlington Raceway Starts: Joe Graf Jr. will make his fourth career start at the “Lady in Black” in Saturday afternoon’s race.

Last year, Graf Jr. impressed in the spring race climbing from his 36th place starting position to earn a lead lap 19th place finish without practice or qualifying.

In the fall, he finished as respectable 23rd after starting 28th in a throwback paint scheme to retired Xfinity Series driver Elliott Sadler.

In May, Graf contended for a top-20 finish again but hiccups on pit road put him at the rear of the field where he eventually was collected in a late-race accident and finished a disappointing 37th.

Joe Graf Jr. Xfinity Series Career Intermediate Nuggets: At tracks greater than 1.0-mile in size, Graf has competed in 28 NASCAR Xfinity Series races. He holds an average starting position of 25.5 and an average result of 24.2.

Put Me In Coach: To strengthen his physique, Joe Graf Jr. began working with new trainer and former NASCAR Cup Series Josh Wise during the 2020 offseason.

In addition to Wise, Graf has also been working with former NASCAR driver and open-wheel driver Scott Speed on being more discipline behind the wheel of his No. 07 G-Coin Chevrolet Camaro.

Sneaker Mania: Along with the adrenaline of the Motorsports competition, Joe Graf Jr. also has a vogue for hype sneakers. In his current collection, he owns and wears at least 85 limited edition sneakers – and his collection continues to grow every month.

The current estimated value of his collection tops $90,000.

From the Pit Box: Industry veteran Joe Williams is Joe Graf Jr.’s crew chief.

He will crew chief his 56th NASCAR Xfinity Series race as crew chief on Saturday afternoon and his fourth at the 1.366-mile oval.

In his previous 55 NASCAR Xfinity Series starts, he has collected four top-five and 14 top-10 finishes.

Hello From The Other Side: Graf Jr. has a teammate at SS GreenLight Racing.
Georgia native Mason Masey will drive the No. 17 Anderson Power | Gerber Collision and Glass Chevrolet on Saturday afternoon.

Massey is poised to make his 17th career Xfinity Series start and eighth of the 2021 season. The 24-year-old will make his second start at the track dubbed Too Tough To Tame and hopes to improve on an 30th place finish in May 2020.

    Joe Graf Jr. Pre-Race Quotes:

On Darlington: “I’m looking for some redemption this weekend at Darlington. We really had a good car in the spring, but we had a series of setbacks late in the race that haunted us and took us from an opportunity to finish inside the top-20.

“Joe (Williams, crew chief) has a pretty good record at Darlington and I’m hoping he can escalate our No. 07 Bucked Up Energy Chevrolet Camaro on-track performance and we can get a solid finish to carry to Richmond next weekend.”

On Bouncing Back: “There’s no hiding around that this season has been a huge bummer. We’ve had more than our fair share of bad luck and being at the wrong place at the wrong time, but there’s no quit in myself or this race team.

“We have to keep going and keep fighting knowing we have a good team surrounded by great people and great partners. We will make the best of the rest of the 2021 season and surge ahead for 2022.”

    • Event: Sport Clips Haircuts VFW Help A Hero 200 (Round 24 of 33)
    • Date: Saturday, Sept. 4
    • Location: Darlington (S.C.) Raceway
    • Layout: 1.366-mile oval
    • Time/TV/Radio: 3:30 p.m. EDT on NBCSN/MRN/SiriusXM NASCAR Radio

    Riley Herbst Notes of Interest

    • With only three races to go in the NASCAR Xfinity Series regular season, Riley Herbst is riding a wave of consistency heading into the Sport Clips Haircuts VFW Help A Hero 200 Saturday at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway. After playing catch-up in the race for the playoffs for the majority of the season, the No. 98 Monster Energy team for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) has a solid hold of the 12th and final playoff spot thanks to three consecutive top-10s. Herbst and Co. look to keep the momentum rolling at a track where SHR has won in the past. The team co-owned by NASCAR Hall of Famer Tony Stewart and Haas Automation founder Gene Haas has two Xfinity Series wins at Darlington – Cole Custer in August 2019 and Chase Briscoe in May 2020.
    • The past five races have propelled Herbst from being outside of the playoff bubble to inside the top-12 cutoff to make the seven-race playoffs, which start Sept. 25 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. After a 19th-place finish July 10 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Herbst was 13th in the standings, 54 points outside of the top-12 cutline. But after finishing 10th July 17 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, 13th Aug. 7 at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International, eighth Aug. 14 on the road course at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, seventh Aug. 21 at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, and 10th last Friday at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, Herbst gained a total of 122 points, erasing that 54-point deficit and replacing it with a 68-point margin over the top-12 cutoff. A win in these final three races of the regular season would lock Herbst into the playoffs, but the 22-year-old racer from Las Vegas can also point his way into championship contention by continuing his string of strong finishes through the regular-season finale Sept. 17 at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway.
    • Saturday’s race will mark Herbst’s fourth Xfinity Series start at Darlington. In his three previous Xfinity Series starts at the 1.366-mile oval, Herbst scored a top-10 and two top-20s. He earned a best finish of fourth in last year’s Labor Day weekend race.
    • Darlington has proven to be “Too Tough To Tame” for many drivers as they navigate its tight confines, but the odds might be in Herbst’s favor this weekend as he takes on the “The Lady In Black.” In addition to his front-running consistency in the past five races, Herbst has both youth and history on his side. Xfinity Series regulars have been favored by the track as they have won the past four races there, and three of the past four winners have been under the age of 26.

Riley Herbst, Driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang

Darlington is a tough track, but you had a good run in the Labor Day weekend race last year with a strong fourth-place drive. What are your thoughts heading into Saturday’s race?

“Darlington has definitely been a rollercoaster of a track for me. I’ve always brought a fast car, but it definitely lives up to its ‘Too Tough To Tame’ nickname. I was never able to practice at Darlington, so everything I’ve learned about the track has been through the three races there. The No. 98 Monster Energy team had a good run going at this year’s race in May, but an incident on the last lap ruined our chance of a good finish. We’re riding a wave of top-10s right now, and I hope to keep it going this Saturday and run up front all day.”

The playoffs are only three races away and you’re currently sitting 68 points to the good in the standings. Talk about your journey these past five races that got you back into playoff contention.

“This whole season has been a wild ride. We’ve worked hard to prove that we’re better than where we were running and we’re showing that we’re a strong team that can run up front. I think we’ve made up over 120 points in the past five races by just being consistent and using strategy to get those much-needed stage points. The battle isn’t over yet, but this team deserves to be in the playoffs come Vegas. We’re in a good spot, but we just have to stay out of trouble and keep on putting together good runs.”

What are your expectations heading into Darlington and these last remaining races of the regular season?

“The No. 98 team has worked hard all season long to get to a point where we’re running up front and staying out of trouble. Last weekend, we led nine laps and put together a solid day. We had a car that should’ve been in victory lane. This weekend, we hope to end up there. Our cars have been fast all season, but now we’re in a spot where we’re staying out of trouble, getting good finishes and contending for wins. The plan is to continue that this weekend.”

    • A seventh-place run last week at Daytona pushed Gragson’s streak of top-seven finishes to four races, including a pair of top fives. He was fourth earlier this season at Darlington.
    • Gragson has shown speed over that span, leading 16 laps at Daytona last week. In the first Darlington race this year, Gragson paced 40 circuits on the way to a fourth-place finish.

    • In that event, Allgaier led for 10 laps and dueled with JRM teammate Josh Berry before securing his first win at “The Track too Tough to Tame.”
    • Overall, in 12 starts in the NXS at Darlington, Allgaier has amassed one win, four top fives and eight top 10s.
    • With just three races remaining in the regular season, Allgaier currently sits third in the championship standings and third in the projected playoff grid.

    Driver Quotes

“We have three weeks, three races to get into the playoffs with our No. 1 Pilot Flying J Thank A Trucker Chevrolet. We had a good run going at Daytona until we got caught up in someone else’s accident. Bummy (crew chief Mike Bumgarner) and the No. 1 team give me great cars every week, and this is go-time for us. We’ve been good the last three times out at Darlington, and we need to be good on Saturday.” – Michael Annett

“I’m really looking forward to getting back to Darlington this weekend with our Breyers Chevrolet. It was really special to end up in Victory Lane here back in May and I feel extremely confident that we can do it again on Saturday. Darlington is such a special and unique place and to have my name added to this track’s historic list of winners means a lot. Hopefully we can have that same kind of fortune this weekend. Jason (Burdett, crew chief) and all of the guys on this No. 7 team have prepared some really fast cars throughout the summer and I can’t wait to see what we can do.” – Justin Allgaier

“Darlington is going to be tough this weekend. It’s one of the hardest tracks on the schedule because of the surface and how quickly tires wear out. It’s my first time here this weekend so the first few laps will be all about learning how the car and track drive. Once I figure that out, hopefully we can get this QPS Employment Group Chevrolet to the front. This No. 8 team ran second here earlier this season so I know we will be fast when we unload.” – Sam Mayer

“Darlington has been a great track for this No. 9 Bass Pro Shops/TrueTimber/Black Rifle Coffee team in the past. Our worst finish is eighth and we have continually gotten better since that finish in 2019. We led laps here in the spring and finished fourth so now we are looking to be a few spots better to hopefully get some more playoff points as we close in on that part of the season.” – Noah Gragson

JRM’s most recent win came this season when Justin Allgaier drove the No. 7 to Victory Lane to secure his second NXS victory of 2021.
    • Pilot Flying J Driver Appreciation Month: Michael Annett’s No. 1 Pilot Flying J Chevrolet will have a signature paint scheme for the next four races as part of Pilot Flying J’s Driver Appreciation Month. Austin Dillon to Join Jordan Anderson Racing & Swann Security at Darlington

STATESVILLE, N.C. (August 31, 2021) – Jordan Anderson Racing (JAR) announced today Austin Dillon will drive the team’s No. 31 Swann Security Chevrolet Camaro SS in the Sport Clips Haircuts VFW Help a Hero 200 at Darlington (S.C) Raceway on September 4.

“It’s always fun when I get to race in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, especially at a track as historic and difficult as Darlington Raceway, so I’m looking forward to putting some laps around the Lady In Black in the No. 31 Chevy.” Stated Dillon.

“I really want to thank Jordan Anderson and everyone at Jordan Anderson Racing for this opportunity. They’ve worked so hard to establish a competitive team and I’m going to do my best to represent them and Swann Security this weekend with a competitive on-track performance.”

Now in his eighth full-season of competing in the NASCAR Cup Series (NCS), the Welcome, North Carolina native holds 290 NCS starts to his credit with three victories; 2018 Daytona 500 at the Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, 2017 Coca Cola 600 at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway, and 2020 O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. In those starts Dillon has collected 16 top-five’s and 55 top-10 finishes.

Starting Dillon’s ladder progression to NASCAR’s top-level the now 31-year-old claimed the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) Sunoco ROY title in 2010 with two wins, and an impressive seven Top-5’s and 16 Top-10 finishes. Dillon backed up his first year by claiming two wins, 10 Top-5’s and 16 Top-10’s the next season on the way to being crowned 2011 NCWTS Champion.

Prior to moving to the NCS full-time Dillon much like his two years in the NCWTS captured the NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) Sunoco Rookie of the Year (ROY) honors in 2012, followed by claiming the NXS championship the very next year. In 149 career NXS races, Dillon has raced to nine wins with 65 top-five finishes, and 106 top-10’s.

In 10 starts at Darlington Raceway in NCS competition, Dillon holds an average finish of 12.4 with a best of second in 2020, while holding an average finish of 8.7 with a best of fifth in three starts in NXS.

“Austin is a driver with a lot of laps around Darlington. I’ve got confidence he’ll be able to earn us a great finish and represent our whole team and Swann Security well in front of my home state of South Carolina. With Austin’s experience, strong motors from ECR, and great cars from RCR – we’re all looking forward to Saturday’s race.” stated JAR President Jordan Anderson.

“After the mis-fortune at Daytona to open the season I could’ve never imaged to work with the drivers we’ve had compete for JAR this season. From Tyler Reddick, Josh Berry, Kaz Grala, Sage Karam, Erik Jones, and now Austin Dillon it has been a blessing to have so many great supporters believe in our vision of building this organization. It has been a true team effort of many great people to get where we are today in such a short amount of time.”

Partnering with JAR for the second time in 2021, Swann Security; a veteran in the security camera industry will adorn the hood and sides of Dillon’s blue, yellow, and white No. 31 Chevrolet Camaro SS featuring their partnership with Best Buy, who carries the entire line of Swann Security products online and in-store.

Blink-of-an-Eye Finish Sees Haley Edge Teammate Allmendinger to Win Wawa 250 Powered by Coca-Cola at Daytona International Speedway

Breaks Away from Three-Wide Battle for Lead to go Back-to-Back in Daytona Summer Classic and Punch His Ticket to 2021 NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoffs

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Aug. 28, 2021) – Coming to the checkered flag, Justin Haley nudged his No. 11 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet just ahead of his teammates A.J. Allmendinger and Jeb Burton in a thrilling three-wide finish in the Wawa 250 NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday afternoon.

The blink-of-an-eye .023-second victory marked the fourth superspeedway victory for the 22-year-old Haley but his first win of the 2021 season. The race was halted due to inclement weather Friday after only 19 laps but resumed at 12:30 p.m. ET Saturday. Haley has three wins on the Daytona high banks, also including one in a rain-shortened NASCAR Cup Series race here two years ago.

Allmendinger, who took the white flag in front of the field, may have just missed the race trophy, but he led the most laps on the day (30) and his runner-up effort was good enough to take the season driver standings lead by 17 points over defending series champion Austin Cindric, who was sidelined after a Lap 27 incident.

Although Haley and Allmendinger’s third Kaulig Racing teammate Jeb Burton made it a three-wide photo at the line, JR Motorsports driver Justin Allgaier actually nudged just ahead in the middle to officially take third place. Burton was credited with fourth place, followed by Joe Gibbs Racing’s Daniel Hemric, whose fifth-place finish was a massive comeback after his No. 18 was involved in the same early-race incident that took Cindric out.

NASCAR Cup Series regular Christopher Bell was sixth with Noah Gragson, Myatt Snider, Harrison Burton and Riley Herbst rounding out the top 10. Hemric, Harrison Burton and Haley all clinched spots in the NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoffs with their finishes today.

“This has just not been the best season, it’s been really, really hard on this No. 11 LeafFilter team all year,” said an emotional Haley, who teared up in car congratulating his crew after the checkered flag. “We’ve had a lot of bad luck.

“I was trying to formulate a plan there and obviously there were team orders. Hats off to Kaulig Racing. I think we’ve got the teammate thing down. It’s just so special to win here at Daytona.”

“I’ve won twice here and neither time did I get to see anyone [fans] on the frontstretch, so thank you guys for being here,” he told the cheering crowd. “I love you”

The first 19 laps of the 100-lapper ran on Friday night, but Florida rain showers forced the Saturday matinee. The competition resumed, however, in the kind of typically flat-out, thrilling superspeedway storyline that NASCAR fans have become accustomed to.

“That was like the perfect photo shoot right there coming across the line for all the Kaulig Racing Chevys,” Allmendinger said with a huge grin. “Proud of my ‘son’ Justin Haley. He might be one of the best we’ve ever seen on superspeedways and Jeb did a fantastic job.

“I was just hanging on in the middle there. I thought we might get it [1-2-3 finish] but proud of everyone at Kaulig Racing.”

Haley and Burton won the opening two stages in an action-packed afternoon that had great impact on the championship chase.

Cindric, the defending Xfinity Series champion and a series best five-race winner in 2021, has led the series standings all season. But he was involved in a five-car accident toward the front of the field on Lap 26 that eliminated him from the race less than a half hour after it re-started.

Cindric’s No. 22 Team Penske Ford was hit from behind by Snider’s No. 2 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet entering Turn 1 sending a handful of cars into save-mode, with several – including top-10 finishers Hemric and Snider – suffering damage but returning to the race.

The hard hit into the inside retaining wall did enough damage to Cindric’s Ford, however, it could not continue. It marked the second straight race the 22-year-old was sidelined before the second stage even began. He finished 37th at Michigan last week after being collected in a seven-car accident only 12 laps into the race.

“Pretty upset for our Ford Mustang, two weekends in a row we’ve had race winning capable cars and I’ve had probably a total of 40 laps in the last two weeks,” Cindric said. “Really frustrating to have that situation play out so early. It only takes one, sometimes.”

Coming into the Daytona race, Cindric held a 35-point advantage over Allmendinger. Now he trails by 17 with only three races remaining to set the 12-driver Playoff field.

The top-10 work by Riley Herbst was significant in terms of the Playoffs. He came into the race ranked 12th, but was able to extend his lead ahead of Michael Annett (30th) and Brandon Brown (34th) who both had bad luck days at Daytona.

    Herbst Finishes 10th at Daytona
Monster Energy Driver’s Top-10 Streak Continues as Playoffs Loom

    Date: Aug. 27-28, 2021
    Event: Wawa 250 (Round 23 of 33)
    Series: NASCAR Xfinity Series
Location: Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway (2.5-mile oval)
Format: 100 laps, broken into three stages (30 laps/30 laps/40 laps)
    Start/Finish: 6th / 10th (Running, completed 100 of 100 laps)
Point Standing: 11th (554 points, 371 out of first)
Race Winner: Justin Haley of Kaulig Racing (Chevrolet)
Stage 1 Winner: Jeb Burton of Kaulig Racing (Chevrolet)
Stage 2 Winner: Justin Haley of Kaulig Racing (Chevrolet)

    Overview:

After two days of racing at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, Riley Herbst and the No. 98 Monster Energy team kept its top-10 streak rolling for a third straight week. Herbst finished 10th in the Wawa 250 NASCAR Xfinity Series, which began on Friday night and ran only 19 laps before rain and lightning forced a stoppage, postponing the remainder of the race until 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Herbst resumed the 250-mile race around the 2.5-mile oval in 37th, whereupon he drove his Monster Energy Ford Mustang up to 17th within five laps of the restart. The first stage ended under caution and Herbst was 13th. At the beginning of the second stage, the 22-year-old was second. He took the lead on the restart and held the point for nine laps before Brandon Brown took the top spot. Herbst stayed in the top-10 for the remainder of the stage and rallied to finish fourth, earning seven valuable bonus points. Herbst remained in the top-10 for the final stage and ran as high as fifth while jockeying for position among the draft. Two caution periods with subsequent restarts left Herbst 14th as he worked to make the bottom lane the preferred line to the front. It didn’t materialize quickly enough, but it did allow Herbst to break back into the top-10 to score his ninth top-10 of the season. The result, combined with Michael Annett’s 30th-place finish, allowed Herbst to expand his advantage over the top-12 cutoff to make the NASCAR Playoffs. While on the bubble in 12th, Herbst now has a 68-point margin over 13th-place Annett with three races remaining in the regular season before the NASCAR Playoffs begin Sept. 25 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Riley Herbst, driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing:

“To be honest, we’re happy with a 10th-place finish, but it kind of sucks when we had a car capable of winning, but that’s just the racer in me. Overall, it was a really, really good day for our year and our points situation. We’ll take it, but, man, finishing 10th with a first-place car is always a gut punch. I think we had to play it safe, but I don’t know. I just want to win a race and show people that I can win a race in this series. We’ll go to Darlington.”

    Notes:

    ● Herbst increased his laps led total at Daytona to 25.
    ● Justin Haley won the Wawa 250 to score his fourth career Xfinity Series victory, his first of the season and his second at Daytona. His margin over second-place AJ Allmendinger was .023 of a second.
    ● There were seven caution periods for a total of 29 laps.
    ● Thirty-one of the 40 drivers in the Wawa 250 finished on the lead lap.
    ● Allmendinger leaves Daytona as the new championship leader by just a single point over second-place Austin Cindric.

    Next Up:

The next event on the Xfinity Series schedule is the Sport Clips Haircuts VFW Help A Hero 200 on Saturday, Sept. 4 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway. The race starts at 3:30 p.m. EDT with live coverage provided by NBCSN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
