    • As the green flag waved and the cars raced towards Turn-1, No. 9 would get pushed off the track at the green flag damaging his car and would come to a stop on track bringing out the first caution of the race. Berry would navigate the dodging and braking cars to successfully gain eight spots moving into the 23rd position.
    • The Lap-5 restart would see Berry advance into a multi-lap battle with No. 8 the pair would trade positions for several laps before Berry would seize the spot.
    • The second caution would fall on Lap-8 with the No. 31 Bommarito Automotive Group Chevrolet sitting in the 23rd position.

After fueling complete Berry would leave pit lane and would make another lap around the 2.258-mile track and return to pit lane for his four-tire change.
    • With the leaders pitting off sequence to remain out front Berry would get shuffled back to 20th on the restart as no positions can be gained or lost on pit road under the revised pit rules. Berry would gain two additional positions as the No. 51 and No. 8 would encounter pit penalties and be forced to start at the tail.
    • Lap-32 would see the No. 7 car go to the garage with drive train problems. Berry would advance another position to the 19th spot.
    • With the possible help from another car and misjudging the braking zone Berry would go off track on Lap-34 successfully avoiding the gravel trap but would lose significant amount of track position fading back to 32nd.
    • The fourth caution would fall on Lap-42 as the No. 51 would stall on track. Berry would remain on track and restart in 30th.
    • With nothing to lose Crew Chief Arthur (Artie) Haire would call Berry to pit lane on Lap-45 for a fuel only stop under green flag conditions in search of gaining track position once pit stops cycle back around after the stage break.
    • Rejoining the field in the 29th position after the fuel stop, Berry would advance one position in the final two laps to finish Stage 2 in 28th position.

    Final Stage:

    • Under the stage break, Berry would come to pit lane for his four tires only stop after previously completing his Fuel only stop. The gamble to come to pit road early would pay off as pit stops would cycle thru. Berry would restart the final Stage in the 13th position.
    • When the green flag flew Berry would hit his braking marks in each corner still trying to get the hang of racing a road course.
    • Dropping back a few positions to 17th the sixth caution would come out on Lap-68 as the No. 10 would spin into the gravel trap and would become stuck.
    • As the field would restart the Stage on Lap-72 No. 22 at the front of the field would get punted into the grass and out of contention, and just a lap later the seventh caution would come out for a multi-car accident with lead cars with some of the front-runners inquiring heavy damage.
    • With cars in front having to go to pit road for repairs Berry would restart in the 7th position.
    • Coming to the restart the No. 02 would stop on track forcing NASCAR to remain under caution for another lap forcing NASCAR overtime.
    • As the race restarted on Lap-77 Berry sitting in the 7th position would drop back a few spots coming to the white flag, but the No. 8 would spin out of fourth spot in turn 3 and the No. 98 would slow considerably after making contact with No. 23. Berry would navigate thru the dirt and tire smoke to slip back into the 8thposition.
    • When the checkered flag flew on Lap-78, Berry would cross the line in the 8th position. Giving JAR its third top-ten finish in NXS in three weeks.
    • Josh Berry Quote Box:

I’m tickled to death and happy for this group. They’re working hard, trying to build something and this should get them enough points where they can keep on keeping on. It’ a good day for all of us.”
    • “It’s just difficult,” Berry said of road course racing. “I didn’t know the limit of the brakes and the car. I didn’t want to make a mistake early on and lose a lot of time. I wanted to make it to the end, that was the number one goal.”

Our Motorsports Post Race Report – Mid-Ohio

LEXINGTON, Ohio (June 5, 2021) – The Our Motorsports team had two cars running for top five finishes at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course when the No. 02 car of Brett Moffitt had an equipment malfunction that led to fuel loss. At the time Moffit was in 2nd place and preparing for the green flag in an overtime shootout. The No. 23 car of Andy Lally battled to a 5th place finish. This results in Lally’s best career finish in the NASCAR Xfinity series.

The 75 lap, 170 mile race began with Moffitt starting in 18th and Lally in 27th. Shortly after the drop of the green flag, Lally had moved up to 15th, with Moffitt right behind in 16th. Within a few laps of the green Lally started having issues with radio communication and felt the car was loose. At lap 15, the Our Motorsport Chevys continued to be running neck and neck in the 15th and 16th positions. When the first green and white checkered was waived, Moffitt ended the stage in 12th with Lally in 30th after a green flag pit stop.

At the start of stage two, Moffitt rolled off 17th with Lally behind him in 19th. Lally battled with several previous Xfinity Series Champions throughout the stage and by lap 33 Lally fought his way to the 5th position. Lally’s No. 23 Chevy continued to show tremendous speed throughout the rest of the stage. Coming in for green flag pit stops resulted in a 21st and 22nd finish for the stage.

When the green flag came back out, Moffitt started 10th before battling his way into the top five. Lally started the stage in the 30th position due to an uncontrolled tire during his green flag stop. With under 5 laps to go both Our Motorsports teammates were running within the top ten. Moffitt found himself in the perfect position with 2 laps to go and in 2nd. Heartbreak set in when the green flag was about to fly for the 2 lap shoot out. Moffitt found himself unable to move his No. 02 Chevy. Due to unfortunate circumstances, Moffitt had an equipment malfunction that led to fuel loss resulting in a 31st finish for the team. Although Moffitt felt heartbreak, teammate Lally was able to cross the finish line in 5th. After a hard day, the Our Motorsports team learned a lot and are hopeful to find themselves in victory lane in the weeks to come.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series returns to action next weekend at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas. The Alsco Uniforms 250 is set for Saturday, June 12 at 4 p.m. ET on FS1.

Myatt Snider and the Louisiana Hot Sauce Chevrolet Fight to the Finish at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course

    Finish: 29th
    Start: 14th
    Points: 12th

“I love road course racing, so I had a blast in my career-first appearance at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in the No. 2 Louisiana Hot Sauce Chevrolet. The results just don’t show how well we ran. It was a really chaotic start and end to the race. At the green flag, the car right in front of me drove off the track and created such a dust cloud that I ended up following him over the curb and getting a little bit of damage to the right-front of the splitter. Luckily, the damage wasn’t bad enough to pit. Handling-wise, the Louisiana Hot Sauce Chevy felt pretty good throughout Stage 1, but we struggled with a really tight condition later in the race. Still, we finished Stage 2 in seventh to earn some stage points. Even though we started Stage 3 in the top five, there was a lot of excitement at the end of the race and we ended up being involved in two separate incidents, including one on the last lap. This isn’t the finish we hoped for, but I have to thank this RCR team for never giving up.” -Myatt Snider

    Finishing Position: 3rd

What else did you need today?

“I felt like we lacked a little bit of overall grip. It took us a little bit to fire off, but my guys did a good job. We kept fighting there. It kind of sucks. The 16 (AJ Allmendinger) did us a little dirty there. I feel like there is a point, you know, we are racing in Xfinity cars at road courses. It’s always going to be rough, but he took it to the next level. I guess I was a little torpedoed. I got the 22 (Austin Cindric) knocked him out, but yeah, I didn’t really have anywhere to go. That’s just part of it – part of the end of these races, things get rough. Next time, going forward. I know what I need to do and my guys are going to work hard. Overall, good day. I will take third place. We were in the top-three I felt like all day and we led some laps. That was good. Going out of here positively. Thanks to everybody that was watching.”

What was missing at the end of the race to keep you from victory?

“We just lacked a little grip and then 16 (AJ Allmendinger) took us three-wide there, but it’s just frustrating. I really feel like there’s not too much respect going on here, and I could care less about respect at all but it’s just sort of like a point where there’s sportsmen-like and after that, it’s just dirty and that was dirty, but I mean, they dork around at Daytona. So I guess that’s what they want to do, but moving forward I’m definitely going to be way more aggressive and use the bumper, maybe spin people out, but overall, just a good day. Kind of frustrating being first and second, third, just couldn’t get it done. Kind of sucks.”

BRANDON JONES, No. 19 Menards/Swiffer Toyota Supra, Joe Gibbs Racing
    Finishing Position: 4th

How pleased are you with this fourth-place finish?

“This was awesome. I mean, I know it’s not a win, but it’s almost a win for me. Road courses just aren’t our strong suit, but we put a lot of time into it, go to a lot of different schools to learn how to do it. So this is big. I said I want to finish top-six, that would have been a big day for me and so top-five is even better. Thanks to Menards, Swiffer, everyone that did so much for us this weekend. I had the ARCA race yesterday with Menards, I think truthfully, that prepared me for the day as well. So, I guess I’m becoming a road racer. I guess we’ll see if we can get a win soon.”

LEXINGTON, Ohio — Preston Pardus has had his dad, Dan, calling the shots on his SCCA Spec Miatas for the past eight years, which included two national championships.

Saturday, though, for the first time, Dan will serve as his son’s crew chief in the NASCAR Xfinity competition in the B&L Transport 170 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Preston will drive the No. 90 Danus Utilities/Chinchor Electric Chevrolet owned by fellow Floridian Mario Gosselin.

The 75-lap race wasn’t originally on Preston Pardus’ schedule for 2021, but Gosselin offered the seat to the 24-year-old driver late last week.

“He does a good job, and he’s a good kid from a good family,” said Gosselin, who fields three cars in Xfinity competition. “We’re excited to have him onboard for the weekend. He has the ability to road race and get himself up near the front when it counts.”

The race on the 15-turn, 2.258-mile layout will be Preston’s third NASCAR start of the season. He finished 33rd in the road-course event at Daytona International Speedway when a top-10 run was ended by a broken rear end. He came home 14th on May 22 in NASCAR’s debut at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.

“Mario called us and said, ‘Hey, I’d love to have Preston in the car. I need to get a decent finish with that 90 car to keep it up there in points,’ ” Dan Pardus said. “It’s a good opportunity. Mario’s got some good equipment and runs a real good show as far as I’m concerned.”

Pardus has two top-10 finishes in eight career Xfinity starts. Both of those came last year, when he was 10th at Indianapolis and eighth at Road America. Despite his extensive road-course experience across the country in SCCA competition, Pardus has not competed at Mid-Ohio, which opened in 1962. The course’s 2020 Xfinity race was cancelled by the COVID-19 pandemic, but its previous seven Xfinity shows produced seven different winners.

“It’s a road course that races like a short track,” Preston said. “Super narrow. It’s a sports-car course, so it has very tight turns, and is kind of single file through most of the sections. There are only two or three really good passing opportunities, and because of that, track position is huge.

“You’ve got to stay patient and stay precise on how you set up a pass. If you try to rush it, you’ll make mistakes. You’ve got to be in line with them coming to the passing zones because if you get off line, you end up losing spots. Having a good race strategy will be a benefit.”

Conceiving a strategy for Mid-Ohio will fall to Dan Pardus and Gosselin, who said they “will collaborate and talk strategy beforehand.”

Dan Pardus has served as an Xfinity crew chief once, that coming in late February when he called the shots for driver Dexter Bean, who finished 17th at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Gosselin’s No. 90.

“It was nerve-wracking, to say the least, trying to make the right calls,” Pardus said. “If the caution comes out, do we come in? Do we short pit? Do we not short pit? Do I leave him out there and try and make a fuel run? That kind of thing.

“It was just a lot of pressure that you don’t realize. You’re responsible for the crew, you’re telling them what to do — two tires, four tires, a round of wedge in the right rear, take air pressure in or out — that as a driver you never have to make. This will be a little easier, I think, with Preston being my son. We communicate pretty well, but we don’t have live pit stops in SCCA racing, and NASCAR’s a whole different deal with three opportunities to make some adjustments. Hopefully it’ll be a good weekend.”

Dan’s voice will be a familiar one for Preston, who said, “He’s always been on the radio with me.”

The elder Pardus, who competed in NASCAR Cup and Xfinity races, as well as ARCA events, said he expects his son to pick up Mid-Ohio’s intricacies in short order.

“I think it’s going to take him 10 laps and I think then he’ll take off. … He adapts really quick, and I think that’s a real talent of his,” Dan said. “He doesn’t get spooked. I think after that first stage, by the middle of it, I look for him to be in the top 20, and hopefully by the end we can get him up there in the top 10.”

Mid-Ohio’s action includes the 1,500th race in ARCA history on Friday afternoon. Racers in the Yokohoma Drivers Cup series will race Friday and Saturday, and dashes for the Stadium Super Trucks competitors will precede and follow the Xfinity race.

    Driver Quotes

“Our Pilot Flying J Chevrolet was pretty good in the rain at COTA, and we were solid at Daytona on the road course, so this weekend’s race at Mid-Ohio is a good chance for our No. 1 team to post a solid finish. We have had good pace and the finishes will come. Bummy (crew chief Mike Bumgarner) and the team has been giving me really good cars. We just need to get the finishes from here on out.” – Michael Annett

“I’ve always really enjoyed racing at Mid-Ohio. It’s a challenging, but fun road course. We had a strong run just a couple weeks ago on the road course at COTA and I feel extremely confident that we will have that same kind of speed with our BRANDT Professional Agriculture Chevrolet on Saturday. It’s a big weekend for BRANDT with Miguel (Paludo) back in the No. 8, so hopefully we can both have a strong day and battle it out for the win in the end.”– Justin Allgaier

“I can’t wait to get to Mid-Ohio this weekend with our No. 8 BRANDT Professional Agriculture Chevrolet. Taylor (Moyer, crew chief) and all the guys on this team have given me great cars during our first two races and I know we will be just as fast this weekend. I can’t thank everyone at JR Motorsports enough for this opportunity and hopefully we can go out there and race for the victory with our BRANDT teammate Justin (Allgaier) on Saturday. I’m ready to go.” – Miguel Paludo

“I’m really looking forward to Mid-Ohio this weekend. We’ve always had fast cars here and this track really suits my driving style as you have to be aggressive with the car. We didn’t get a chance to race here last year but in 2019 we raced to a fifthplace finish after suffering a lot of damage part of the way through. This entire team is really putting in the work to make sure this Bass Pro Shops/TrueTimber/Black Rifle Coffee Camaro is fast enough to secure our way into the playoffs and there’s no better weekend to do it than this one.” – Noah Gragson
