No. 22 MoneyLion Ford Mustang – Austin Cindric
    Start: 3rd
    Stage 1: 4th
    Stage 2: 2nd
    Finish: 1st (Fifth-career NXS Victory)
    Status: Running
    Laps Completed: 201/201
    Laps Led: 44
Point Standings (behind first): 2nd (-24)

    Notes:

Austin Cindric captured his third-straight victory of the 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) season on Saturday afternoon in the My Bariatric Solutions 300 at Texas Motor Speedway. The win came after Cindric initially crossed the finish line in second, but was elevated to the victory when the No. 54 of Kyle Busch was disqualified for failing post-race tech. The driver of the No. 22 MoneyLion Ford currently sits second in NXS driver standings, 24 markers behind leader Chase Briscoe.

Cindric started third and wasted little time taking over the race lead shortly after the drop of the green flag. Over the course of the first 45-lap stage, the MoneyLion Mustang was loose, forcing Cindric to drop to fourth at the conclusion of Stage 1. Crew chief Brian Wilson made the call to pit during the stage caution for four tires, fuel and major adjustments to aid the loose handling Mustang. Solid work on the pit lane by the MoneyLion team moved Cindric up to second for the restart on lap 51.

The second 45-lap stage was slowed by two cautions with the Mooresville, N.C., native holding firm to the second position. The young driver communicated to Wilson that his Ford Mustang took off tight but came to him during the long run en-route to finishing second when Stage 2 concluded on lap 90.

Cindric restarted the final stage in eighth but had climbed up to third when the eighth caution came out on lap 118. He grabbed the lead on lap 153, just before making his final scheduled green flag stop. The No. 22 MoneyLion Ford cycled out to the second position when the final caution waived on lap 196, pushing the event to an overtime finish. Cindric lined up on the inside of race leader Kyle Busch for the final restart but couldn’t find a way around his rival during the two-lap sprint to the finish.

However, once post-race tech concluded, NASCAR declared that the No. 54 did not pass tech, giving Cindric and the No. 22 MoneyLion team the victory for the third time in the last three races.
The victory is Cindric’s fifth-career NXS victory. The 21-year-old led 44 out of 200 laps, marking his ninth-consecutive race to lead at least one or more laps.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series is back in action at Kansas Speedway Saturday, July 25 at 5:00 p.m. ET, with live coverage on NBCSN, MRN, and Sirius XM NASCAR Radio.

Quote: “Yeah, going three in a row in the Penske Eight-Wide Weekend is huge. Roger doesn’t race in any series not to win and to be able to capitalize like that and have three in a row between Simon’s awesome win from the back last night at Iowa, I loved watching that race. Scott McLaughlin got it done last night in Australia down in Sydney and then for us to follow up on our end of the deal is great. I don’t know how the IMSA race is going right now. I know the 7 car is having some sort of trouble, but hopefully the 6 car can pull it off and keep it going because I think Newgarden and our guys down in the Iowa can do it again tonight. It’s exciting. It’s what you expect when you drive for this team. You drive for Roger Penske, you have the tools to do it, so I’m just proud to be able to drive the wheels off the race car every weekend.”

AUSTIN CINDRIC, No. 22 MoneyLion Ford Mustang

    (POST-INSPECTION COMMENTS)

HOW DID YOU FIND OUT AND NOW YOU HAVE A THREE-RACE WINNING STREAK. “Obviously, it’s great to be able to get the MoneyLion Ford Mustang in Victory Lane no matter how it happens. It’s a great points day for that. I just got out of the hauler from getting changed back into my street clothes and saw the 54 and everyone and their brother surrounding the scales, so that’s never a good sign for those guys. I know they race hard and work hard. I want to win it on track. I felt like we had a shot to do that today and maybe didn’t execute as well as we should have and that’s what kept us out, but fast race cars and being in position that’s where it counts.”

WHAT HAS THE LAST WEEK BEEN LIKE? “I guess I’ve got more wins on ovals than road courses, so I’ll take it. I’ll move with it. It’s great to be able to capitalize on fast race cars. I said that last week and I’ll say it again. I didn’t think this weekend we were quite as good as what we had at Kentucky, but, overall, being able to run up front all day and getting great stage points and having a say in things all race was great. We’ve just got to keep going about that.”

DOES THE LEFT-REAR BEING LOW HELP A CAR? “I think that would be a better question for Brian here in a minute. Overall, they give a lot of tolerances and it sounded like they gave them a chance to get it back, but, overall, I think Kyle was just a step better than the rest of us today. I don’t think that played a major factor. It could have. Who knows, but it’s where it counts. Everybody has to play in the same sandbox and we were able to capitalize and be the best of the rest and today it meant a lot more.”

IS IT A HOLLOW TYPE OF WIN? DOES IT FEEL ANY DIFFERENT GETTING IT THIS WAY? “It’s hard to say. A win is a win and it’s great. It’s good for our team. It’s good momentum and obviously it’s great points. If they let me go choose the guns here in a minute I might be a little more excited, but, overall, to get the cowboy hats and do the whole deal here is great. We were a contender all day and I believe we were able to do it, but it wasn’t in the cards in our race. But, you always want to win it on track.”

A BIG WEEKEND FOR TEAM PENSKE. YOU’VE MADE IT 3-FOR-3. “Yeah, going three in a row in the Penske Eight-Wide Weekend is huge.

BRIAN WILSON, Crew Chief, No. 22 MoneyLion Ford Mustang — “At the beginning of the race we weren’t where we needed to be. We were probably a bit too free. We had to work on it the first couple stages of the race. It was kind of a curveball. We expected it to be close to what it was last week, but we definitely had to work on the car. I feel like by the end we definitely had race-winning speed to at least contend with those guys. The 7 car was really good. The 54 obviously was really good, but I feel like we were right there with those guys by the end of it, but it was definitely more work than what the past couple weeks have been.”

WHAT MIGHT A CAR THAT’S LOW IN THE LEFT-REAR BE ABLE TO DO? “They’ve always got fast race cars. I don’t want to take anything away from those guys because they’re really good, but the saying in racing is always low left and light. That helps get your car down and helps lower the CG and there’s a reason why there are rules in place. It’s our job to toe the line and I’m always worried about stuff like that. I definitely feel bad for those guys. That’s not how you want to lose a race. They executed a really good race and they were out ahead of us by a good amount. Maybe on the restart it played a little bit of a difference, but I feel like we’ve got some things that we should work on as far as restarts go, so I’m not gonna say that was the reason why those guys were in Victory Lane earlier, but it definitely doesn’t hurt.”

WHAT HAS THE LAST WEEK BEEN LIKE AND HOW DO YOU KEEP IT GOING? “The playoff points, that’s the biggest thing that we’ve been focused on. We feel like we really need a safety net once we get to the playoffs and I think this is helping us out. But, obviously, you saw guys close the gap from last week. We were really fast last week and we had a lot of competition this week, so we’ve got to keep pushing and keep trying to get better and find every area that we can improve because guys are not gonna rest in this garage. It’s a really strong garage with a lot of good teams. It’s gonna be a heck of a battle by the time we get to the playoffs.”

HOW NERVE-WRACKING IS POST-RACE TECH? “It’s definitely the most nerve-wracking part of my weekend. I would rate that above having to make a pit call from the lead. Until you’re through, you never feel good. You’ve always got nervous energy and you’re wondering if something could have bent or broken or something they don’t happen to like that they just haven’t seen before. We’re always toeing the line — everybody in the garage is to find speed — and anytime that they’re looking at the car you’re nervous.”

ARE THE TOLERANCES ENOUGH OR ARE YOU ALWAYS PUSHING THE LINE? “I feel like the height tolerance they give you a window pre-race that we all work within . We typically toe the line there, but they let you adjust in pre-race tech to make sure that you’re within those windows, so there is definitely room that you can adjust and still work on your setup. And then post-race they give you a pretty good window as well, where if you have to take rounds out of the left-rear for balance you should have enough room for that. So, I personally feel like there’s enough adjustability. There’s a pretty good window that you’ve got to work in.”

THREE STRAIGHT OVAL WINS NOW FOR AUSTIN. WHAT DOES A RUN LIKE THIS DO FOR HIS CONFIDENCE? “I think for the whole group it’s a confidence-builder. I think the first one was the biggest one. That took the pressure off, but after that I feel like today just showed that even if you don’t have the best car or a dominant car, we’re still gonna be able as a group execute and work on the car and get it to the point where we have a shot to contend for the win. So I think that’s a big statement within our group that when we’re not the best car we can still find ways to get up front.”

DO YOU FEEL AT THIS JUNCTURE YOU’RE AT A CHAMPIONSHIP LEVEL? “I definitely feel that way. I’m proud of the fact that both us and the 98 are both pretty high up in the points. I’m guessing that probably moved us up into second or now we’re really close to second. Between us and the 98, I feel like we’ve shown that we’re probably a couple of them that are going to contend, but then there are a lot of really good teams in this garage. Like I said, it’s gonna be hard to sustain this level and stay ahead of everybody because you know everyone is gonna work on their stuff. I believe we’re only one or two races past the halfway point of our regular season, so there’s still a lot that can happen. We’ve got to push hard to stay where we’re at.”

AUSTIN CINDRIC POST-RACE INTERVIEW — “It was a solid points day. I think we had a really great shot, especially if we had clean air on our MoneyLion Ford Mustang of giving him a run for his money. I didn’t do my job cleaning off my tires enough for that restart, so it sucks I spun my tires, but we’ve got some things to clean up today. We didn’t get any help from that side of things, so some things to improve on. I’m proud of my team for bringing more fast Ford Mustangs and I wish we could have seen a Ford in Victory Lane today.”

AUSTIN CINDRIC POST-RACE PRESS CONFERENCE (PRE-INSPECTION COMMENTS)

HOW TOUGH OUT THERE IS IT WITH SO FEW FORDS? “We lucked up for today with the two of us, but, overall, we’re all racing hard and on these tracks it’s not as different or beneficial, but it just is what it is.”

WHY DO YOU THINK THERE IS SO MUCH AGGRESSION, INCLUDING SOME INTENTIONAL WRECKING, GOING ON IN THE SERIES THIS YEAR? “It’s difficult. I feel like you’ve seen it more in the last couple months than normally and you don’t get people to optimize their race cars. You don’t get the opportunity to test out where your stuff is bad and we’re you’re gonna be able to put it in bad spots. You usually only learn that in the race now, so that’s difficult. I feel like most of the on-track incidents have just been guys trying hard and trying to make passes. The last two weeks it’s been really hard to pass and you’ve got to be aggressive and commit to when you’re doing it. I feel like that’s why you’re seeing more of it than not lately.”

CHASE BRISCOE, No. 98 Ford Performance Racing School Mustang — POST-RACE INTERVIEW — YOUR STRATEGY ALMOST PAID OFF IN A WIN TODAY. “We just needed the caution to come about six laps earlier and we would have had them all pinned and would have been in the lead. We were just so tight all day long and finally made a big adjustment there and we were the fastest car on the track until about 40 laps into that run and then we just got too tight again. It was a hard-fought third-place finish for our Ford Performance Racing School Ford, but going to Kansas next week, which I can’t wait to get to, where we’ll be able to move around and run on the fence and hopefully it’s hotter than it is here. That way we’ll be slipping around even more.”

    CHASE BRISCOE PRESS CONFERENCE

“It started off and we were just so tight all day long and we really didn’t in three and four and down in one and two and the guys were talking about whether or not we should make an adjustment that lasted. It took longer, but we still had track position and we finally did that and then I think we were two or three-tenths better than the whole field coming from the back and we just ran so long on tires that I just got tighter and tighter and tighter. Our whole strategy at that point was to try to catch an extra caution and have the field pinned a lap down, so we just caught the caution six laps too late and then we just came down and put four on it, so definitely a hard-fought third-place. I felt like we made gains on it. We were just so far off at the beginning it took us a while to kind of get where it needed to be.”

WE SAW YOU THROW THE WATER BOTTLE AND A LOT WAS MADE THAT MAYBE YOU WERE TRYING TO GET A CAUTION. CAN YOU EXPLAIN THAT SITUATION? “The nozzle kept coming off and I was just trying to get rid of it because I knew we were gonna be pitting and I wanted another one just because I was so hot in the race car. I kept pouring it on me as we would go, so I knew we were gonna be pitting in a couple of laps anyway, so I was trying to get it out so we could get the other one in. It was a two-tire stop. It was gonna be tight on time anyways, so I was trying to do anything I could to not hold those guys up. I didn’t want to be sitting there waiting on pit road waiting for a water bottle, so I just tried to get rid of it so I would be ready for whenever we pitted.”

WHAT HAPPENED WITH YOU AND ROSS MIDWAY THROUGH THE RACE? “We were all on the top and we were going and I felt like I was foot-and-a-half to two-feet off of him and I guess I just dropped the air off of his left-rear and it got him really loose. We were going so fast that as soon as he lost any momentum whatsoever I was already on top of him so I hit him. I wasn’t trying to wreck him or anything. I was just trying to stay in line with him so we could pin the 20 car on the bottom, and I guess I just got close to him and then dropped the air off of his left-rear and got him really loose. I’m sorry to those guys. That was definitely not my intention. Like I said, I was just trying to make sure the 20 couldn’t get in and then I knew if we were in line as we came off of turn four we were gonna be able to clear the guys on the inside, so that was my whole strategy and I just got him loose when I got that close to him, I guess.”

IS THIS THE HOTTEST YOU’VE BEEN IN A RACE CAR? “No, I wouldn’t say the hottest. I would say Chicagoland in 2018 was the hottest and then, truthfully, I felt like Indianapolis was a little bit hotter at times than today just because you’re working a lot harder. It was certainly hot, but I wouldn’t say it was unbearable by any means. I felt like the racetrack, usually every time I’ve been here in XFINITY it’s been 40 degrees outside and the racetrack was a lot racier, I felt like, when it was this hot out. Hopefully, we can get to Kansas next week and it’s even hotter than this and we’ll be slipping and sliding around. That’s kind of where my driving style is kind of the best, so hopefully it will be even hotter next week.”

HOW HARD IS IT WITH ONLY TWO FORDS OUT THERE? “It’s not terrible, I feel like, when you come to places like this. When you go to a Talladega or a Daytona it makes it tough, but at these places everybody is running all they’ve got, so it’s not like you’re really trying to help each other. You try to if you can, but it’s so hard on a place like this, whereas at a place like Daytona or Talladega you can really work together. Here, there’s really not much working together other than restarts where they might be at the bottom or the top so you can push them. On the racetrack it’s really hard to do anything. You’re trying to do the best for your team. I think it hurts us when we go superspeedway racing, but other than that the two Fords have really won more races than anybody, so I think we’ve been okay.”

    Finishing Position: 4th

Talk about your day and bringing home a fifth-place finish?

“It was tough, it’s definitely a single lane race track again, which made it tough on the restarts and things like that. But we were really fast and I was proud of that. I think our team has taken the right steps, the results haven’t shown it the past few weeks, but it’s been going better and better. We fire off faster and we were probably the second-best car to Kyle (Busch) today and our results didn’t show it. We were right there with Kyle and felt like we had a shot at them at the end if we had a good restart. Just a tough day, but really, really proud of our guys, we were down our crew chief Ben (Beshore, crew chief) but we still trudged on through and made it happen. That was good for our team to get a little momentum going and move on to Kansas.”

How did it feel to have a strong run after the past few races?

“It felt good to finally have another good run. It’s not that we haven’t been capable of it. It’s just mistakes I’ve made and things that happen that take us out of the race and mistakes that we’ve made as a team, I feel like we’ve kind of learned from all of those and we’re starting to clean it up and hopefully go on another little run here and win some more races. I’m really excited, I think our whole organization has got speed, just need to put it together more often.”

How was it dealing with the heat in Texas today?

The heat was not as bad as I expected it to be, honestly. Which I was happy about. It was definitely warm in there and it was hard day’s of work for sure, but I feel like we’ve been racing really hot races recently — Homestead, double header in the heat. I think all of our workouts at TPC (Toyota Performance Center) in the heat room are helping us out. So normally, I’m not too too worried about it, because I feel really well prepared for it. This weekend was a really good test being it was 95-degrees or whatever it was and I felt in good shape by the end.”

BRANDON JONES, No. 19 Menards/Bali Toyota Supra, Joe Gibbs Racing

    Finishing Position: 7th

How was your race overall today?

“It started off honestly pretty good, pretty upbeat and I thought the car was really good. I was a little bit tight kind of in traffic and by myself, but nothing crazy. The longer the day went, the worse we got in traffic, the looser we kept getting to fire off. Track position didn’t even matter for me there kind of in the middle of the race. (We) had that green-flag stop and that was the turnaround for us I thought. We eventually got away from everybody and once we did that, we were running times fastest of the race. There was speed in the car, we just missed it in traffic for whatever reason. It was good to get back in a rhythm, good to get back finishing races in the top-10. I think all in all was a pretty positive day.

With a top-10 today, does it feel like things are swinging back in the right direction after the past several weeks?

“That was probably the highlight of the day, I know coming in that’s what we needed to do. We just needed to not do anything too crazy and get back to finishing races. Cause that’s how we learn, that’s how we get better is making all the laps and then we can dissect the car a little bit better and make it better. All that stuff leads to finishing better in these races.”

RILEY HERBST, No. 18 Monster Energy Toyota Supra, Joe Gibbs Racing

    Finishing Position: 36th

What happened between yourself and Noah Gragson that ended your race?

“Yeah, it really sucks honestly. I hate it for my guys we were just learning the track here at Texas, first time at this speedway and got absolutely drove through by the 9 (Noah Gragson) car. Just a little bit of lack of respect. So it’s a real big bummer because we came off two really strong runs at Kentucky and thought we could follow it up here at Texas with another strong run, and we get used up on lap five. So it’s a shame.”

Can you explain the situation between yourself and Noah Gragson?

“Honestly sucks, I hate it for guys at Joe Gibbs Racing. I think it was lap four or five, just kind of learning the racetrack here. First time for me at Texas Motor Speedway and the 9 (Noah Gragson) car decided to run through us, so a real shame and I hate it my guys, Monster Energy everybody. But he’s got a lot more to lose than I do, so we’ll see what happens.”

Anthony Alfredo and the Death Wish Coffee Chevrolet Team Lead Laps and Show Speed in Strong Texas Motor Speedway Showing Despite Early End to the Day

    Finish: 28th
    Start: 10th
    Points: 9th

“We had an extremely fast Death Wish Coffee Chevrolet today at Texas Motor Speedway. We were really good early in the race, but struggled to get track position. My crew chief, Andy Street, made a great strategy call to have us pit prior to the end of stage two. That allowed us to stay out and take the lead for the beginning of the final stage. I battled really hard on older tires to keep the lead and then had to give it up because we started over heating from a piece of debris on our grill. Once we got back in the dirty air, I made a mistake by getting too high in the PJ1, which led to us knocking down the wall. Once that happened, we struggled with a bad vibration for the remainder of the race. With 10 laps to go, something broke and I hit the wall again, which ended our day. I hate it for all my Richard Childress Racing guys and Death Wish Coffee. It’s definitely not how we wanted to finish. However, I’m super proud of the speed we brought again and I know it’s just a matter of time before we can put it all together.” -Anthony Alfredo

    Joe Graf Jr. Pre-Race Quotes:

On Kentucky Speedway: “It was a weekend with mixed emotions. We had a really good No. 08 Bucked Up Energy Chevrolet that helped us capitalize on track position at the end of the race to finish 13th.

“On Friday night, we started third, but were really loose to start the race and could never recover the track position despite our best efforts to get the car handling better. Still, the track time was important, and we brought the car home in one piece and that’s important.”

On Texas Motor Speedway: “Another new track for me this year, but I’m ready to buckle in and get after it. I have been doing what I can to study, whether that is watching old races, studying video and photos and talking to a lot of people, but nothing accounts for actual track time.

“I’ve been told that Texas is a unique mile and a half track. Hopefully, we can make some gains during the race and have a top-15 finish to carry us to Kansas Speedway.”

On Approaching Halfway Point of 2020: “It’s definitely been a whirlwind season so far. Everyone at SS GreenLight Racing has worked hard to bring fast race cars to the race tracks and be patient with my learning curve.

“We’ve made some strides this season, especially since returning from the break, but we still have a lot more work to do and look forward to accomplishing those goals during the second half of the year.”

Ford Performance NASCAR: How Hot is Ford in NASCAR’s Top Two Series?

    FORD PERFORMANCE NASCAR: TEXAS NOTES

No manufacturer is hotter in NASCAR’s top two series than Ford as the Cup and XFINITY Series make their way to Texas Motor Speedway for action this weekend. Just how hot is Ford? The answers and proof are below:

    HOW HOT IS FORD?

This is how hot Ford is in the NASCAR Cup and NASCAR XFINITY Series:
    · Ford has won 8 of last 9 NXS and Cup races combined, including back-to-back weekend sweeps at Kentucky and Indianapolis.
    · Four straight NASCAR XFINITY Series wins (2 each by Chase Briscoe and Austin Cindric).
    · Consecutive NASCAR Cup Series wins and 4 of the last 5 overall.
    · Point leaders in both series: Kevin Harvick (Cup) and Chase Briscoe (NXS).
    · Manufacturer point leader in both series.
    · 17 combined wins in 2020 (10 Cup and 7 NXS).
    · 14 combined wins in 24 starts since NASCAR returned to action on May 17: 8 Cup (13 starts) and 6 NXS (11 starts).

    FORD’S FASTEST TO 10 CUP WINS SINCE…

Cole Custer’s win on Sunday in Kentucky was the first of his NASCAR Cup Series career and 10th of the season for Ford. That not only matches Mustang’s win total from its debut campaign last year but marks the fastest Ford has reached double digits since 1997. Custer’s victory on July 12 bettered the time Jeff Burton won Ford’s 10th race that season at New Hampshire Motor Speedway by one day. Here’s a list of double-digit win seasons and the date No. 10 took place.

FASTEST SEASONS TO 10TH FORD WIN (Modern Era: 1972-Present)

    YEAR DATE TOTAL
    1992 June 14 16
    1994 July 10 20
    2020 July 12 ?
    1997 July 13 19
    1999 Aug. 7 13
    1985 Aug. 11 14
    2018 Aug. 12 18
    1996 Aug. 18 13
    2000 Aug. 20 14
    2005 Aug. 27 16

BRISCOE AND CINDRIC LOOK TO EXTEND WIN STREAK TO FIVE

Chase Briscoe and Austin Cindric have both won twice in the last month to stretch Ford’s NASCAR XFINITY Series win streak to four, marking the first time the manufacturer has done that since 2014. Briscoe, who leads the point standings, has five wins this season while Cindric is coming off a two-night sweep at Kentucky Speedway last week. The last time Ford won five straight NXS races was 2002 when Scott Riggs, Jason Keller and Bobby Hamilton Jr. combined to achieve that feat, which eventually reached six before coming to an end.

HARVICK LOOKS TO CONTINUE TEXAS HOT STREAK

The last time the NASCAR Cup Series came to Texas Motor Speedway was November and for the third straight year Kevin Harvick came away with a playoff victory that automatically sent him into the Championship 4. Harvick, who hadn’t won at the 1.5-mile track in his first 29 starts, has now won three of the last five races at the speedway. In addition, he has a second-place finish in this latest stretch, and 11 consecutive top 10 Cup finishes at TMS. That streak also includes eight top-five efforts.

FORD IN THE NASCAR CUP SERIES AT TMS

    · Ford has the most all-time NASCAR Cup Series wins at TMS with 15.
    · Kevin Harvick won the Playoff race at TMS in November.
    · Jack Roush is tied for the most wins among car owners at TMS with nine.

FORD IN THE NASCAR XFINITY SERIES AT TMS

    · Ford leads all manufacturers with 13 NASCAR XFINITY Series wins at TMS.
    · Ryan Blaney and Cole Custer posted wins last year, giving Ford a series season sweep.
    · Mark Martin won the first NXS race at Texas and leads Ford with three series victories overall.

FORD IN THE NASCAR GANDER OUTDOORS TRUCK SERIES SERIES AT TMS

    · Ford has 3 series wins at TMS.
    · Kenny Irwin Jr. won the first series event held at TMS in 1997.
    · Ford’s last series victory at TMS came by Greg Biffle in 2000.

LAST LAP PASS LEADS LOGANO TO VICTORY

Joey Logano’s first Cup win at TMS came in 2014 in a race that was delayed until Monday because of rain. Logano dominated much of the second half, but a caution with two laps to go forced a green-white-checker finish. He started third on the restart after the leaders stopped on pit road and was able to get past Jeff Gordon on the final lap to claim victory. Logano led 108 of the final 116 laps to claim the first of five wins that season.

    A TEXAS TWO-FIRST

A couple of firsts happened on April 6, 1997 as Texas Motor Speedway hosted its inaugural NASCAR Cup Series event and Jeff Burton took his first checkered flag. Burton, led by crew chief Buddy Parrott, passed Todd Bodine with 58 laps remaining and beat fellow Ford driver Dale Jarrett to the finish line by four seconds. The race was slowed by 10 cautions, which included a multi-car accident in first turn of the first lap. Burton went on to win 21 career series races with 17 of those coming in a Thunderbird or Taurus.

SADLER WINS FIRST RACE WITH RYR

Elliott Sadler passed Jeff Gordon with 27 laps remaining and then held off Kasey Kahne in the closing laps to win the Samsung/Radio Shack 500 on April 4, 2004. Sadler, in his second season with Robert Yates Racing, hugged the inside lane over the final three laps as Kahne worked the outside. When the two cars came off turn four for the final time, Sadler had a lapped car in front of him and that allowed Kahne to make one last charge. Despite gaining crucial ground through the tri-oval, Kahne came up half-a-car length short as Sadler crossed the line first to gain his second of three career series wins.

I’ve won a truck race there, and I’m running both races Saturday evening. Hopefully we can get this No. 11 LeafFilter Gutter Protection Chevrolet in victory lane. It’s been a good track for me, so let’s keep that momentum rolling! We’ve been super fast the past few weeks, and if we keep it up, we’re going to get some more wins.”

“We are headed to Texas this weekend. I can’t wait to get there. We are going to build off our notebook we just learned at Kentucky. Even though these tracks are pretty far apart, they are pretty similar, in my opinion, with one end of the track being relatively flat compared to the other end with a lot more banking. I’m taking a few days to get rested up and get ready for our race in Texas this Saturday. We’re going to have some fresh paint on the car – a fresh wrap. I can’t wait for you guys to see our Titan XC scheme – a product of Nutrien Ag Solutions. We’re changing it up a little bit. Hopefully we will be changing up our luck and going to victory lane. We finished second here last year. For me, being in clean air and being able to run as fast as you can in turns three and four is a big thing. Being able to pass off turn four is going to be key. We definitely struggled a little bit at Kentucky in some areas, and we are looking to make those areas better. We’re going to work to be the best we can. Tune in on Saturday!”

    Driver Quotes

“Coming off a great weekend in Kentucky, I’m looking forward to keeping the momentum rolling this week at Texas. We had fast Chevrolets at Kentucky and had a chance to double up on top fives, and that just shows the strength of this No. 1 team. Over our last four races, we have an average finish of 6.8, and we’re looking to keep that going this weekend at Texas.” – Michael Annett

“Last weekend was definitely an eventful one for our team, but we came through it stronger and with a top-five finish to show for it. This team has proven time and time again that they never give up and they’ve been working their tails off all year long. We’ve had great speed on mile-and-a-half tracks and after how fast we were at Kentucky, that makes me even more excited to get to Texas with our BRANDT/Tracker Technologies Camaro to see what we can do.” – Justin Allgaier

“Texas is a definitely a special place for me and my career having won my first truck race here. It’s a track that I’ve always enjoyed coming to and have always felt really confident at. We had some really good runs here last year and I have no doubt that we can unload with that same speed on Saturday with our State Water Heaters Chevrolet. Taylor (Moyer, crew chief) and all of the guys on this JR Motorsports team have been working really hard and I can’t wait to get to the track and see what we can do.” – Jeb Burton

“Statistically Texas hasn’t been one of my best tracks that we race at. I’ve finished 13th and 30th here the last two races but had never finished outside of 10th when I ran here in the Truck Series. We’ve had speed since coming back in May and I am hopeful that it will continue this weekend in Texas. I’m not sure how I would look wearing a cowboy hat, but there’s no better place to try one on than in Victory Lane this weekend. ” – Noah Gragson
