    Joe Graf Jr. Pre-Race Quotes:

On Talladega Superspeedway: “I’m really proud of Patrick (Donahue) and the entire SS GreenLight Racing team. They brought me a fast No. 08 Bucked Up Energy Chevrolet Camaro and unfortunately, we found ourselves at the wrong place at the wrong time – while waiting to make our charge. That’s how it goes at superspeedways sometimes.”

On Bucked Up Energy’s Opening Races: “Our No. 08 Bucked Up Energy Chevrolet has looked great on track and they’ve been happy with our performance and the exposure they have received in a short amount of time.

“Our goal is to continue to put them in the spotlight and have them be a recognizable household name by the end of the year.”

On Pocono Raceway: “I’m optimistic about going to Pocono this weekend. I have several races there in the ARCA Menards Series with some good finishes. I’m hoping that my experience will pay some dividends on Sunday and we can have a good rebound from Talladega.”

    Ford Performance Notes and Quotes
    NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS)
    Thursday, June 25, 2020

Austin Cindric, driver of the No. 22 MoneyLion Ford Mustang in the NASCAR XFINITY Series, is third in the point standings and is coming off a fourth-place finish last weekend at Talladega Superspeedway. He was part of a Q&A session this afternoon that looked ahead to Sunday’s action at Pocono Raceway.

AUSTIN CINDRIC, No. 22 MoneyLion Ford Mustang – YOU ARE ONE OF FOUR DRIVERS IN THE DASH 4 CASH SUNDAY. HOW EXCITING IS THAT? “I think being able to run for Dash 4 Cash is awesome. My last two years in the XFINITY Series I’ve been able to qualify for it, but I’ve qualified for it at Talladega, so this is the first time I feel like I’ve got somewhat of a control of my destiny as far as being able to be there at the end of the race for it. Overally, obviously, great positioning for us. We’ve had a lot of great runs the last couple weeks, so hopefully being able to carry that momentum into Pocono with Dash 4 Cash is great for our team.”

IS THERE ANY EXTRA PRESSURE TO WIN AT INDIANAPOLIS NEXT WEEK? “I think it’s an awesome opportunity for us and for the series. Obviously, it’s a big weekend not just for our team, but racing a doubleheader day with Indy Car there, you’ve got the Brickyard 400 on the Fourth of July Weekend. There’s a lot of stuff going on, but, for me, there is an expectation to run well on those types of tracks, but my job is the same that weekend as it is every weekend, so I try not to put too much pressure on myself. Indianapolis means a lot to me personally and a lot to my family personally, so going to that place and being a driver instead of a spectator, I feel like is always weird, but I’m really looking forward to it and I wouldn’t want anything more than to be able to bring that first race win back home for Roger now at his racetrack.”

WILL YOU BE ABLE TO GET ANY INFORMATION FROM YOUR PENSKE INDY CAR TEAMMATES THAT WILL BE OF ANY VALUE? “I wouldn’t say no, but I feel like their race will definitely play a role for us so far as we don’t have any experience of what our tires and what our cars do to Indy Car rubber. I feel like most of the guys that I’ve talked to I feel like that’s the biggest question mark that looms over that weekend is how that’s gonna change our race and how that’s gonna affect our race. Hopefully, we can make the right adjustments or at least have the right versatility in our car to deal with that.”

WHAT DOES IT SAY ABOUT THE FACT THERE ARE ONLY TWO FORDS IN THE SERIES AND BOTH OF THEM ARE UP AT THE TOP OF THE STANDINGS? “Obviously, Chase and I drive for two great teams and I think that’s where it first starts. Most opportunities Chase and I have to work together. We have a working relationship because we’ve been teammates in the past and we’re friends off the track, but I think that contributes to running well. We’re later on in our XFINITY careers, so the experience and having the right teams and having the right backing from Ford. They provide great resources for us with the simulators along with others, so I’m proud of that effort. At the same time, you want to beat everyone that’s out there, so I feel like we’ll have to beat him and his team and everybody else to try to win the championship. It’s great that we’re able to have that kind of success in small numbers, but I’d love to have plenty more out there, especially during the superspeedway races.”

HOW DO YOU VIEW YOUR DEVELOPMENT ON THE OVAL TRACKS AND A UNIQUE TRACK LIKE POCONO THIS WEEKEND? “It’s funny because I feel like more people put an emphasis on my first oval win or whenever that will be than I do myself. Personally, I know that I’m capable of it. I’ve proven it to myself enough times. I feel like as far as when it’s gonna happen, I think when it’s your day, it’s your day. For me, if we win this weekend at Pocono, then it will be my first triangle win and I’ll still be looking for my first oval win. You’re never satisfied, but, overall, it’s been a great year for us. Really, the way we ended last year I feel like that carries over. We’ve made changes to our cars and made changes to my driving and I’ve been able to really hone in on the last couple percent as far as what it takes to be the best in this series and I feel like that’s carried straight over. I don’t feel like it’s a year-to-year thing. I feel like there’s a lot of things in my career building up to this year and being able to use the resources that I have and obviously being able to execute well I think that’s important. I’ve got the same core group of guys that I’ve had the last couple of years and I feel like that’s important as well as far as being able to run for a championship and I’m proud of that effort. It’s been frustrating a little bit the last couple of weeks not being able to win, especially having such fast cars. You probably saw the peak of that frustration in the second race at Homestead, but, for me, I’m pretty motivated to put us at the front of that field.”

WHAT’S THE MOST IMPORTANT LESSON YOU’VE LEARNED FROM YOUR PREVIOUS RACES AT POCONO THAT WILL HELP YOU THIS WEEKEND? “I feel like you’re always driving your own strategy there. You’re driving your own car. You’re driving your own strategy. I re-watched the race today with my team and understanding how we’re gonna play that race, but, for me, it’s a fun track because it almost reminds me of Fontana in the fact that you have to have a fast car to be able to win the race because it is such a big track, such a long straightaway on both ends. But, at the same time, there are a lot of driving characteristics that you have to understand and that you have to be able to manipulate throughout the race to be able to be good there. I think that plays into our hands. I’ve always liked that place. I like anywhere you can use the brake pedal and depending on how your car is you can downshift, so I’m excited for it. I think it’s another great opportunity for us to run well.”

THERE’S BEEN A LOT OF TALK ABOUT DIVERSITY IN NASCAR. YOUR GRANDFATHER WAS A TRAILBLAZER WHEN IT CAME TO THAT. WHAT HAVE YOUR PARENTS TOLD YOU ABOUT THAT? “I think I got most of your question there. If you look over my shoulder, that’s his helmet. I appreciate you asking the question. I learned honestly a lot about his involvement as far as diversity watching the Willy T. Ribbs documentary. Last night at dinner, as a family, we were talking about like, ‘Man, I would love to meet him.’ It’s something that I’ve never done. Obviously, my dad knows him. He used to come to the family dinner table at the Truman household when my mom was growing up, so she knows him. That’s something I’m quite proud of, at least as far as my family in many regards. I couldn’t have said it any better. He was a trailblazer in many regards as far as his career in NASCAR as well as his career in sports car racing, meaning Willy T. I think he’s a figure that had an involvement in my family’s racing that I’ve never met before, so I’d love the opportunity to meet him.”

    Justin Haley Quote
“We finally got that LeafFilter Gutter Protection Chevrolet into victory lane! We’re going to Pocono this weekend racing for the Dash 4 Cash with Ross Chastain, who won the Dash 4 Cash last weekend at Talladega. We’ve got two cars — both of our Kaulig cars are in the Dash 4 Cash at Pocono. I cannot wait! Pocono is a tricky triangle, as they say. It’s a really tough race track. Having no practice is going to be difficult at a track that is so different from the others. I can’t wait to get there though. We’re coming off some momentum at Talladega, and hopefully we will have some speed and get that 100 grand at the end of the weekend.”

    Driver Quotes

“Our Pilot Flying J Chevrolet has been so good this year, and at Talladega we were as good as any car out there. We’ve been leading laps, running at the front and following our strategy, and that’s going to get us to the front every week. Pocono presents a unique challenge for our teams, but with (crew chief) Travis Mack and our No. 1 team, we’re up for it and looking forward to Sunday.” – Michael Annett

“I love racing at Pocono. It’s just such a unique, fun track and this No. 7 team has been very strong there even though some of our finishes may not show it. Hopefully we draw a good starting position this week and start near the front and stay there in our Hellmann’s Drizzle Sauce Chevrolet. We’ve had fast cars this season, but these last three races haven’t quite ended the way we’ve wanted them to and it’s time to turn that around. ” – Justin Allgaier

“I’m really happy to get back behind the wheel of this No. 8 Chevrolet this weekend in Pocono. This place is such a unique, challenging track that is actually a lot of fun to race on. Hopefully we can have a solid run on Sunday and be in contention when it counts in the end, especially since this will be OnDeck Capital’s first race onboard our No. 8. I have all the confidence in Taylor (Moyer, crew chief) and all the guys on this JR Motorsports team that we will be right where we need to be come race time.” – Daniel Hemric

“Pocono Raceway is a tough track to get ahold of because all three turns are completely different from each other. You can get the setup perfect for one turn but be way off through another and that is what makes it so exciting. The fact that we don’t get any practice should provide even more entertainment throughout the race. This No. 9 team has been bringing a great car for me each week and I hope we can continue to ride this wave of momentum into Pocono.” – Noah Gragson

JUSTIN HALEY PULLS AWAY ON FINAL LAP TO WIN NASCAR XFINITY SERIES UNHINGED 300 AT TALLADEGA SUPERSPEEDWAY

Chastain Second & Wins Xfinity Dash 4 Cash Bonus as Kaulig Racing Takes Top Two Spots

Talladega, Ala. – Justin Haley, driver of the No. 11 Chevrolet for Kaulig Racing, is uncertain of his status for a ride in 2021. His win in Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series UNHINGED 300 at TALLADEGA will help his cause.

Haley broke away from Jeb Burton on the final lap to take the checkered flag, his first career win in the NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS), becoming the third NXS driver to record his initial victory in the series in 2020.

Haley led a total of 17 laps in the 113-lap race, and was running second behind Burton on the final restart, with three laps to go following an 11-car incident which brought out the red flag. Haley pulled away from the pack on the final lap to notch his first NASCAR national series victory since taking the rain-shortened NASCAR Cup Series Coke Zero Sugar 400 on July 7, 2019 at Daytona International Speedway.

An emotional Haley climbed from the right-side window of his car after the race, with more than one reason to be choked up by the maiden win. Haley’s crew chief during his rookie season, Nick Harrison, passed away unexpectedly on July 21 last year, and Haley celebrated his bond with his former crew chief.

“First of all I want to thank Nick Harrison and the Harrison family,” Haley said. “He started this journey with me last year in my rookie year. Losing him was pretty big. It’s just an incredible day, emotionally. I’m fighting for a ride and to get into a race car next year. Any time you can win it helps. Big hats off to the No. 11 crew and everyone at Kaulig Racing. Matt Kaulig (owner), we love you; thank you so much. I’ve got to thank my whole family. It’s pretty special for me.”

Kaulig Racing teammate Ross Chastain (2nd) fended off AJ Allmendinger to win the Xfinity Dash 4 Cash and come away with the $100,000 bonus.

“I’m so proud of this Kaulig Racing team,” Chastain said. “We came to pit road under green and it worked out perfect. That’s how you draw it up. The caution came out and set us up for track position. The car was fast. When I saw Justin get free of the No. 8 car (Jeb Burton) I knew it was his race. I honestly have never been so happy to finish second.”

Burton finished third, with the remainder of the top-5 consisting of Austin Cindric (4th) and Brett Moffitt (5th).

Haley also won Stage 1 of the race, his second career stage win. Chase Briscoe took Stage 2, his second stage win of 2020.

Rookie Harrison Burton, who had registered a top-10 finish in each of the first 10 races this year, finished 31st after being involved in a six-car incident with 18 laps remaining, ending that impressive streak.

The Dash 4 Cash series will run the final of its four 2020 races next Sunday, June 28 at Pocono Raceway. The four drivers with a chance at the $100,000 bonus, based on their finish in today’s race, will be Haley, Chastain, Jeb Burton and Cindric.

Talladega Superspeedway, NASCAR’s biggest and Most Competitive track, will be one of the first sports venues to have a return of fans – up to 5,000 – in attendance for Sunday’s GEICO 500 NASCAR Cup Series race. Set for a 2:00 PM CDT start, it will be broadcast LIVE on FOX, MRN Radio and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90. Chase Elliott is the race’s defending champion. Finish: 4th
    Status: Running
    Laps Completed: 113/113
    Laps Led: 8
Point Standings (behind first): 3rd (-43)

    Notes:

Austin Cindric led eight laps and finished fourth Saturday afternoon in the Unhinged 300 at Talladega Superspeedway. With the result, the driver of the No. 22 MoneyLion Ford Mustang moves from fourth to third in the NASCAR Xfinity Series driver standings, 43 markers behind leader Noah Gragson.

Cindric started the 113-lap, 300-mile race in the seventh position after the field was set by random draw. Cindric was scored in the 13th position when the competition caution flag flew on lap 10. The 21-year-old sliced his way through traffic to finish Stage 1 in sixth place. Crew chief Brian Wilson called the No. 22 MoneyLion Ford to pit road during the stage caution for two tires, fuel and slight adjustments and Cindric restarted the stage in the 10th position.

The second stage ran caution free and over the long run Cindric raced his way to the second position but crossed the line in third at the conclusion of Stage 2. A fast pit stop by the No. 22 crew helped the Mooresville, N.C. native to start the final stage from the race lead.
Eventually, Cindric was shuffled out of the top spot and fell to 10th before the fourth caution of the race on lap 76. Wilson called Cindric to pit road during the caution for fuel only and the MoneyLion Mustang restarted eighth.

Cindric once again captured the race lead with 13 laps remaining. Over the balance of the event, Cindric fell to the seventh position and a series of caution periods and two red flags paused the race. Racing resumed with less than five laps remaining and Cindric crossed the line fourth for his sixth top-five result of the season.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series is back in action next Sunday, June 28 at Pocono Raceway, with live coverage starting at 12:30 p.m. ET on FS1, MRN and Sirius XM NASCAR Radio.

Quote: “Yeah, it’s tough to decipher. Obviously, I think the inside row was more broken up than the top lane. You had three teammates when we came to two to go, so that was gonna be hard to beat from the start, but it was a solid day for us. We got stage points and we led some laps and we had a say in things at the end, I just wish I would have been able to have some more help behind me to be able to push the 8 to the lead and maybe try to race with him for the win. It didn’t work out that way, but not a scratch on the car, so happy with that and happy to be able to have a good race with MoneyLion on the car. Obviously, Joey will try to do a few spots better than we did today and it’ll be fun to watch that tomorrow.”

    FORD FINISHING RESULTS:
    4th — Austin Cindric
    17th — Chase Briscoe

AUSTIN CINDRIC, No. 22 MoneyLion Ford Mustang — YOU WERE IN POSITION ON THE LAST RESTART. WERE YOU LOOKING FOR SOME HELP THAT DIDN’T COME? “Yeah, it’s tough to decipher.

YOU’RE IN POSITION EVERY WEEK. DO YOU FEEL THAT WIN IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER? “Yeah, that’s what it takes. It takes a great team to be able to pull off that consistency and we sure put in the work to do that. I don’t really expect any less at this point in the year out of us, so I’m proud that we’re able to keep up that kind of a consistent effort. Obviously, we had a fast car and a great motor from Roush Yates, so I’m proud of that, proud that we were able to contend all day with some good resources. We didn’t have a perfect day, but it was a good day.

YOU HAVE BEEN CONSISTENT AT ALL KINDS OF TRACKS THIS YEAR. “That’s what you have to be. It’s all about Phoenix at the end of the year to be able to position yourself for that, but being able to get points and contend for that regular-season championship. We’re clawing our way back up after getting wiped out from Bristol. That probalby hurt us more than anything else this year so far, so we’re knocking on the door, but should be fun to be contending for Dash 4 Cash for the next race.”

CHASE BRISCOE, No. 98 Ford Performance Racing School Ford Mustang — “It’s typical Talladega. You come here and you know what can happen. There’s so much out of your control and we were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Fortunately, we were able to get a stage win, so that’s really the big positive to take away from today. Stage wins will be big come playoff time and this is a place where you could leave here with nothing to show for it, so to be able to at least get a stage win was good. Obviously, we didn’t get the finish we wanted, but we still had a really good Ford Mustang and it’s part of Talladega and superspeedway racing.”

YOU WERE AT THE FRONT AND THEN GOT HUNG OUT ON THE INSIDE LANE AND SHUFFLED BACK. THAT’S WHEN THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED. “Yeah, for sure. We weren’t able to get up and for whatever reason everybody wants to single-file out on the top and typically one of the few guys that just keeps trying to try to make the bottom work and I just couldn’t get up. I could never get a hole and we got back there with some slower cars and almost lost the draft, but was able to catch back up. As soon as we caught back up and we were looking good in that top 10 area, that’s when that guy spun right in front of me and I had nowhere to go. I clipped him with the left-front and tore the left-front off the thing and was surprisingly still decent for the amount of damage we had. I thought we were gonna be able to maybe salvage something and then at the end, when you have that much damage, nobody wants to work with you so we just couldn’t get anything going on that last restart.”

HARRISON BURTON, No. 20 Morton Buildings/DEX Imaging Toyota Supra, Joe Gibbs Racing

    Finishing Position: 31st

    What happened in the accident?

“It’s hard to say, I haven’t really seen it yet. It looks like we were all running the top and we were single file and they checked up really hard. I don’t know if I didn’t get checked up in time. It looks like one of them got sideways and then it was just all over. It’s so hard to tell what’s going on. There’s so much going on, even when you’re running single file. Just a tough day for us. We had a fast race car and trying to make moves work on the bottom. Just kind of got shuffled to the back and from then on, that’s just kind of how it went down. Proud of our guys. We always have fast Supras and I have no doubt that next week won’t be any different and we’ll hopefully go out and get a win.”

Was Josh Williams upset with you after the accident or what was that conversation?

“He asked me if I was alright and then I asked him if he was alright. He was upset about how the racing was going I guess. Me and him are fine, there’s no problems there. First thing he said was, ‘are you alright?’ That’s how you know it’s a big one is when your competitors ask if you’re okay when you get out. Just part of plate racing unfortunately, and we’ll learn from it and be better.”
