    Driver Quotes
“It’s good to be back at Darlington with this No. 1 Pilot Flying J/Baby Ruth Chevrolet. It’s a great paint scheme for a great race track, and I want to keep being consistent with good finishes on the way to the playoffs. We were good through the road courses and Bristol, but here we are just a few races away from the start of the postseason, and we need to gain momentum. I’m looking for a good run this weekend at Darlington.”– Michael Annett

“I’m really looking forward to running this Ricky Rudd throwback with Armour this weekend. The throwback atmosphere at Darlington each year is so cool and it’s awesome that our No. 7 team gets to be a part of it. I can’t wait to get on the track and see what we can do. Hopefully it’s as fast on Saturday as it looks sitting in the shop.”– Justin Allgaier

“We’ve been working toward this race with the Hellmann’s throwback for months and it’s great to have it all come together. The throwback weekend Darlington puts on is really entertaining and it’s cool to see how involved the teams get. Running this paint scheme and carrying the No. 8 is going to be special. I’ve been looking forward to it for a while. The Xfinity Series has been competitive this year with the young talent that is in the series right now. We’ll see how things go during practice and hope to be running with those guys on Saturday.” – Dale Earnhardt Jr.

“Darlington is so much fun. It’s a place where the groove that is the fastest is the complete opposite of what you would think it is. We tested here earlier this year and I just immediately understood what makes this place so awesome. Now hopefully we can have a nice, smooth day on Saturday and be there at the end. I can’t wait to see what we can do running up by the wall, especially since we have a new partner this weekend with Far Out Toys and Adventure Force. I really appreciate them coming on board our No. 9 Chevrolet and I hope they have a great time.” – Noah Gragson

  • Richard Childress Racing & blu to Honor Kyle Petty’s 7-Eleven Scheme at Darlington

Richard Childress Racing & blu to Honor Kyle Petty’s 7-Eleven Scheme at Darlington

No. 2 myblu Chevrolet as Part of NASCAR’s Throwback Weekend at Darlington Raceway

WELCOME, N.C. (August 27, 2019) – Richard Childress Racing’s Tyler Reddick will celebrate NASCAR’s history at Darlington Raceway with a throwback design honoring Kyle Petty’s 1980s 7-Eleven scheme. The design scheme will prominently feature both 7-Eleven and blu, a leader in the electronic cigarette industry, that retails at 7-Eleven.

“We’re excited to enter the sport of NASCAR and partner with Richard Childress Racing, one of the most iconic teams in the sport,” said Greg Moser, VP of Marketing at blu. “Naturally, we did a lot of homework before taking this step and in the end, it was a natural fit. NASCAR is a passion point of our existing blu consumers and the sport has a well-documented adult audience, where the incidence of smoking is higher than the national average. This was a perfect opportunity to connect adult smokers with our myblu product and recognize one of our top retail partners, 7-Eleven, with an iconic scheme for the No. 2 myblu Chevrolet.”

“The Throwback weekend at Darlington Raceway is always one of my favorite races of the year because I love NASCAR history and it’s so fun to celebrate the heritage of our sport at one of NASCAR’s oldest and most exciting tracks,” said Reddick. “I grew up watching Kyle Petty race, so being able to celebrate his career and impact on the sport is special to me. I’m so thankful to be able to participate in NASCAR’s Throwback weekend and honor an icon of the sport this year.”

Petty’s 7-Eleven machine was an iconic scheme for much of his career in the 1980s, including his 1986 win at Richmond Raceway that came after Dale Earnhardt and Darrell Waltrip wrecked hard on the final lap. The No. 2 myblu Chevrolet Camaro pays homage to the scheme with its layered lines and 7-Eleven orange stripe.

blu is one of the original e-vapor brands, celebrating 10 years of providing adult smokers with a high-quality alternative to traditional cigarettes. The Throwback weekend at Darlington Raceway marks the first primary sponsorship secured by blu in NASCAR. myblu is the latest product from blu, delivering a simple and satisfying nicotine experience for adult smokers.

Reddick is currently first in the NASCAR Xfinity Series point standings, with four wins, three pole awards, 18 top-five and 20 top-10 finishes. The defending Xfinity Series champion has already clinched his 2019 playoff berth and is currently in the hunt to secure the regular season championship.

No. 22 Menards/Richmond Ford Mustang – Austin Cindric
    Start: 3rd
    Stage 1: 1st
    Stage 2: 26th
    Finish: 2nd
    Status: Running
    Laps Completed: 45/45
    Laps Led: 4
Driver Point Standings (behind first): 5th (-180)

    Notes:

Austin Cindric and the No. 22 Menards/Richmond Ford Mustang didn’t win Saturday afternoon’s CTECH Manufacturing 180 at Road America, but he put on a show at the end of the race, driving his way from 25th to second in just two laps to pick up his third-straight top-two finish in NASCAR Xfinity Series road course action.

The Menards/Richmond Ford Mustang started the race from the third position and settled into the same spot on the opening lap. Despite having a brief off in turn five, Cindric stuck to a pre-race plan with crew chief Brian Wilson. While some of the other lead cars pitted before the stage break, Cindric stayed on track and finished second at the end of the first stage.

Cindric reported that the Menards/Richmond Mustang was good, but experiencing wheel hop in the heavy braking zones. While the rest of the field pitted for fresh tires, Wilson kept the 20-year-old driver on the track to restart stage 2.

On much older tires, Cindric tried to hold on while falling through the field. Sticking to the original strategy, Wilson called Cindric to pit road for the first time on lap 16. He ran slow and cautious laps the rest of stage 2 to keep his tires as fresh as possible, coming home 26th at the end of 20 laps.

Once again, the No. 22 Mustang restarted near the front of the field as stage 3 took the green. Cindric ran inside the top-five having completed only one pit stop to the rest of the fields’ two. However, after contact with the No. 10 of AJ Allmendinger caused a tire rub, Cindric came to pit road once again for four fresh Goodyear tires.
After another caution and the rest of the field taking their final stops, Cindric restarted the race from second with just 10 laps to go and took the lead from Christopher Bell. Unfortunately, the fresher tires behind him saw him slip back to fourth, before another caution set up a green-white-checkered finish.

With a set of tires still in the pits, the No. 22 came to pit road once again for tires. With just two laps remaining, Cindric restarted the race from the 25th position and drove all the way to second at the checkers.

The runner up finish, to go along with wins in the first two NASCAR Xfinity Series road course events this season, kept Cindric fifth in the point standings.

Quote: “It was chaos there at the end of the race. I ended up passing a lot of cars coming up through there that were just over driving or missing corners. It was insane. But that is why all these people show up to Road America and road course races, because you never know what you are going to get. It always comes down to those last-lap finishes. I’m really proud of my Menards/Richmond team. We didn’t get the win, but it was fun to drive up there at the end and pass everyone cleanly. We will try and continue this momentum we have in Darlington next week. It’s been a good month of August for sure.”

Tyler Reddick Rounds Out Road Course Swing with Top-Five Finish at Road America

    Finish: 3rd
    Start: 6th
    Points: 1st

“I wish we had that last restart back in our No. 2 Roland Chevrolet Camaro. We had a great balance on our car and ran inside the top five pretty much all day, which is a huge improvement for me on road courses. We were just chasing a little more front turn to roll through the corners better. With the strategy we had going of pitting early in Stage 2, we were in contention to potentially steal this one away if Christopher Bell made a mistake on the final lap. Unfortunately, he didn’t make any, and I missed a shift for the first time all day, which caused us to fall back one spot to third. I’ve struggled here in the past a lot, and on road courses as a whole, so I’m glad to see an overall improvement in my finishes not only from last year, but from the start of this year’s swing as well.” -Tyler Reddick

Kaz Grala Delivers a Gutsy Top-Five Finish in the HotScream Chevrolet at Road America

    Finish: 5th
    Start: 11th
    Points: N/A

“I’m really excited about the day we had here at Road America. We came home with a top-five finish, and for me, that’s pretty good considering mid-race we had to make an unscheduled pit stop. A miscue on pit road unfortunately cost us some track position when we had to come back down to put on more lug nuts. To come from the tail end of the lead lap there, all the way back up to a top-five finish, is really good. It says a lot about my crew chief, Justin Alexander, and our HotScream team. We don’t give up. RCR builds some fast race cars, and we showed that today. The only bittersweet thing is in the middle of the race, we had a really good battle with the 20 car and I think we were as good as he was. Depending on who hit their last adjustment just right, I think we would have had a shot at beating him. I know that we had speed to contend up front, but a top-five finish is still a really good day for us. I can’t thank everyone at RCR for the opportunity to race for them this year. I learned a lot and gained a ton of experience.” -Kaz Grala

    TOYOTA QUOTES

CHRISTOPHER BELL, No. 20 Ruud Toyota Supra, Joe Gibbs Racing

    Finishing Position: 1st

What a finish! You got a road course win!

“Yeah, how about that! I’m honestly in shock. I really butchered qualifying and tore the crap out of that left front. I felt like once we got in the race there we would be able to drive by those guys. Then they dropped the green flag and they were driving by me. That wasn’t very much fun. I told Jason (Ratcliff, crew chief) that I’m really, really tight. We got those tires off, and he said the left front was hurt pretty bad. Then we got pretty good there when we put our fresh tires on it. The strategy worked pretty good for us with us pitting and then the yellow coming out. This Ruud Supra was really, really fast. We’ve had a great road course season. I’m really honored to be a part of Joe Gibbs Racing. To get my first road course win is really special.”

Talk about your road course journey.

“I guess I get lucky on these things. I’m really heartbroken for Matt DiBenedetto. He was really, really fast. We knew from practice that both of our cars were going to be really good and that we would be right there racing each other. I don’t know exactly what happened, but I saw him go flying off of (turn) 14. That sucks. He’s in a tough spot right now. He needed a good run there.”

Is this the last bit of your driving arsenal that you needed to check off?

“Speedway racing is a struggle for me, but I’ll take that if I can go road course racing. I have to give a really big thank you to Ruud, Rheem, all of our partners at Toyota and Toyota Racing Development and all the fans that tuned in today. It’s an honor to be racing in the Xfinity Series. These cars are so much fun to drive. Luckily I get to drive one of the best one’s in the field.”

    Driver Quotes

“We’ve been consistent these last 15 races or so, earning a lot of top-10 finishes and adding to our notebook for the playoffs. Road America is a place where we’ve run well, and we’ve been solid on the road courses so far this season. There’s a road course in the playoffs too, and this will give us a pretty good idea where we need to go when we get to the Roval next month. I am glad to have Allstate Parts and Service on our No. 1 Chevrolet again at Road America.”– Michael Annett

“Last weekend in Bristol was a tough one for sure, but it has this BRANDT Professional Agriculture team even more determined to get to Road America and battle for a win.  We’ve proven ourselves to be fast on road courses and I think we can get it done this weekend. We’re ready to go.”– Justin Allgaier

“I’m really happy to get back behind the wheel again of this No. 8 Fire Alarm Services Chevy for JR Motorsports. We had a fast Camaro at Mid-Ohio and I feel like we will have a shot again this weekend at Road America. I love racing on the road courses and hopefully we can have a solid weekend for everyone on this No. 8 team.” – Regan Smith

“I’m really looking forward to getting back on a road course this weekend at Road America. Even though I haven’t had a chance to race there before in a Xfinity car, I am extremely confident that we will unload with a fast Switch Chevrolet, especially since we are coming off of a really strong run at the last road course in Mid-Ohio. Hopefully we can back up the speed we had there this weekend without running into any trouble. If we can do that, I feel like we will be in contention all day long on Saturday.” – Noah Gragson

“What up, everyone. Pumped to be back with Kaulig Racing. Going to Road America, one of my favorite racetracks – historic, it’s fast. It’s long, 4-miles – wears out the tires, cars will be sliding around. (We) definitely have some momentum coming off of Mid-Ohio (Sports Car Course). (Kaulig Racing is) making our racecars better. We’re ready to go out there, and get that victory and have fun after. We’ll party. We’ll save the party from Mid-Ohio bring it to Road America, Matt Kaulig, let’s go.”

    Notes:

    – John Hunter Nemechek and GMS Racing will utilize chassis no. 214 this weekend at Road America. This chassis has been run once this year by Nemechek at Watkins Glen International (start: 20th/finish: 12th). This chassis was also ran three times in 2018, once at Watkins Glen International by AJ Almendinger (start: 4th/finish: 2nd), another at Road America by NASCAR Hall of Famer, Bill Elliott (start: 23rd/finish: 20th) and lastly by Spencer Gallagher at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval but had to go to a back up after an incident in practice.

    Quotes:

“Road course racing has not been our friend this year. We had a decent finish at Watkins Glen and then had a suspension issue at Mid-Ohio that ended our day early. We have some momentum after last weekend’s third-place finish at Bristol Motor Speedway. It boosted everyone’s confidence to show what this small team is capable of achieving. It’s great to have Fire Alarm Services back on board, and the new scheme looks great and will look even better parked in Victory Lane.”
