Motor Speedway ROVAL.

The race signifies the 11th race of the second half of the 2023 Xfinity Series season for the Statesville, N.C.-based organization.

Future Focused: With AM’s inaugural Xfinity journey set to continue just outside the Queen City, the team has chosen veteran driver Brett Moffitt to lead the team’s campaign from the driver’s seat aboard the No. 25 Ford Mustang.

Moffitt, a native of Grimes, Iowa, hails numerous starts across all three of NASCAR’s National Series, including the 2018 Truck Series championship with Hattori Racing Enterprises.

Moffitt, 30, arrived on the scene at AM Racing after a stint at Our Motorsports.

Partner Intel: The Statesville, N.C.-based team welcomes Superior Pools & Spas as the primary marketing partner for the 29th of 33 NASCAR Xfinity Series race this season.

Superior Pools & Spas provides a wealth of hands-on, technical know-how and real-world problem-solving capability on each and every project.

As a third-generation builder with over four decades worth of experience, Superior Pools & Spas has amassed a talented design team and skilled in-house construction crew to ensure the highest quality projects.

Still Staying Technical: AM Technical Solutions will remain a major associate marketing partner for the final road course race of the season.

AM Minute: Last weekend was a quiet but productive fall weekend for AM Racing.

With the NASCAR Xfinity Series enjoying their final off weekend of the 2023 season, the ARCA Menards Series was in action at the famed Salem (Ind.) Speedway in Southern Indiana.

Rookie driver Christian Rose enjoyed a banner weekend after qualifying a career-best fourth and finishing third aboard his No. 32 Ford Mustang.

With his finish, Rose banked his first career top-five and his 12th top-10 finish of the 2023 season.

The 2023 ARCA Menards Series season concludes Saturday afternoon at Toledo Speedway.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner: With the Xfinity Series off from competition at Talladega Superspeedway, Moffitt returned to Front Row Motorsports in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series to serve as a drafting partner for FRM teammate Zane Smith in Love’s RV Stop 250.

After qualifying 31st and Smith enduring mechanical issues during the race, Moffitt’s priorities shifted. He soared his No. 34 Fr8Auctions Ford F-150 to lead five times for 22 laps total and collected his 13th career Truck Series victory.

Looking Ahead: Following the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at the Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway ROVAL, and for the second straight race, AM Racing will showcase another new primary marketing partner at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway, respectively, next weekend.

On The Charlotte Motor Speedway ROVAL: “It feels good to be back with my AM Racing team after such a phenomenal weekend at Talladega Superspeedway. I’m pumped to represent Superior Pools & Spas in a hometown race for them and carry the confidence from Talladega to the Charlotte Motor Speedway ROVAL on Saturday.

“I’ve had zero luck on the ROVAL in my two prior starts, but there’s always an opportunity to change the tune, and that’s exactly what I hope to do on Saturday afternoon. We’ve had a good pace with our road course program at AM Racing this year, and I’m hoping we can continue to showcase that on Saturday afternoon.”

On 2023 Season: “We are about a month away from the conclusion of the NASCAR Xfinity Series season, and I’d love nothing more than to close it out with a slew of top-10 finishes with our AM Racing team.

“It’s officially the homestretch and the final five races of 2023. I’d love to continue building on our recent strong finishes and deliver the best ones possible.

”From the ROVAL to Las Vegas, Homestead, Martinsville, and Phoenix, there is much to be desired over the season’s final race and to end the year on a high note.”

Hailie Deegan Announcement | Thursday, October 5, 2023

AM Racing announced today that Hailie Deegan will be running a full-time schedule in the NASCAR Xfinity Series next season in the No. 15 Ford Mustang. Here is a transcript from today’s program that took place at the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

WADE MOORE, President, AM Racing – YOUR VISION HAS BEEN TO EXPAND IN THE XFINITY SERIES. WHY IS THAT IMPORTANT? “I think anytime you’re able to have that conversation about a commitment to growth it’s an exciting thing, but whether you’re involved in this industry or your personal life, I think it’s a healthy conversation to talk about that too, but it’s really a privilege when you get to act upon it and that’s something that we get to do today. It’s attached directly to a new driver, but with that said, it’s so much more than just about the driver because this is a commitment to the folks back at the shop in Statesville. It’s a commitment to the families of those folks and our existing partners and our new partners, and it’s a commitment to the sport. With that said, it’s also a commitment to the growing relationships with these two gentlemen and who they represent in two historic names in Ford and Roush Yates Engines. Obviously, there’s a lot of work to be done. I like the trajectory of our team, but we’re open to the challenges. We’re very excited.”

HAILIE DEEGAN, Driver, No. 15 Ford Mustang – WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED ABOUT AS A DRIVER GOING FULL-TIME XFINITY RACING NEXT YEAR? “I think this is just an opportunity of a lifetime. I would have probably never been able to race in the Xfinity Series full-time if it wasn’t for Wade and everybody at AM Racing and Ford sticking behind me. I’m really, really excited for these next couple of years.”

PAT DIMARCO, Ford Performance NASCAR Program and Analytics Manager – WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO NOT ONLY CONTINUE THE RELATIONSHIP WITH HAILIE, BUT FOR YOUR COMPETITION EFFORTS WITH AM RACING? “It’s great with AM and Wade. I look at AM as a partner with the potential for a lot of growth. I liken it to what we’ve done with Front Row Motorsports. They started at the bottom and they worked their way up and every year they got better and better. They didn’t expect support, they earned the support from us and that’s what AM has done. Congratulations to Hailie. The first time I met her, I have twin daughters as Doug does, and they were about two years younger than Hailie at the time and I’m sitting there going, ‘Man, I’ve been driving with my daughters learning how to drive. How is this going to go?’ But Hailie’s growth both personally and on the racetrack over the years has been great. The success that she had at Vegas last year was phenomenal, so this is the next step and glad that she’s had this opportunity presented to her.”

DOUG YATES, President/CEO, Roush Yates Engines – “It’s an exciting day. Congratulations, Hailie and Wade. This is really exciting. I first met your dad, Brian, we were building his short course truck engines and now we’re able to power your career and looking forward to working together. It’s been a really solid first year with Wade and his team and we’re looking forward to building onto that and growing our Xfinity presence and looking forward to being a part of Hailie’s career. Everybody at Roush Yates and Ford Performance are excited about it.”

WADE MOORE CONTINUED – WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED ABOUT ADDING HAILIE TO THE TEAM? “I think for Hailie, we didn’t have a close personal relationship prior to COTA of this year, so it’s been a learning experience understanding who she is as a person, which I think is kind of what fast-tracked this deal for us to get it done because when you meet Hailie and you spend time with her, you learn that she’s a very driven person. She’s a very passionate person. Her moral compass really does align not only with our families, but a lot of our partners. Obviously, in this sport anytime you’re talking about growth there are going to be growing pains that come with that. For me, I think we already have a head start in a sense that we’re very aligned on a lot of the way we view things and I think that in itself will help us overcome some of those challenges we’ll face, but it certainly has been exciting just getting to know her and understanding how driven she is and, quite frankly, at AM while we are a very young program, she’s also young as well in her career where it provides an opportunity for us to grow together. I think she’s gonna be a cornerstone of the success of AM when we look back in a couple of years and where we go, so I think being able to do this together and have something to prove as a group is what’s most exciting about it.”

HAILIE DEEGAN CONTINUED – WHAT WILL BE THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE GOING FROM TRUCKS TO XFINITY? “I obviously had the one Xfinity race at Vegas and it went pretty well, but I think overall just learning the dynamics of the car and learning the mechanic side of it, and really just getting used to it. There are a lot of new tracks that I haven’t been to either in a while or going to be going there for the first time, so I think it’s definitely going to be a learning curve and I’m really glad that Wade’s on board of being able to grow together as a team and for me as a driver, so I think we’re going to accomplish a lot of great things together and just take it one step at a time.”

    HAILIE DEEGAN BREAKOUT SESSION

HAILIE DEEGAN – THIS IS A NATURAL PROGRESSION, SO HOW DOES IT FEEL? “Honestly, it’s been such an eye-opening moment. From the start of this deal I thought it was too good to be true. I didn’t know if it was actually gonna happen because opportunities like these are kind of once-in-a-lifetime or once-in-a-career opportunities when it comes to NASCAR racing. Just to see everyone’s support at AM and everyone on the team side and Ford’s side, it’s been unreal. I know all of the assets that Ford is gonna be bringing to the team, plus the team being invested in me it’s gonna be a great opportunity and I see a lot to come out of it.”

DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOU’RE ON TRACK, GOING FROM IMSA TO TRUCKS AND NOW XFINITY? “Yeah, for sure. I’d say that the IMSA stuff I hope I still get to race that at the beginning of the season because I enjoyed it so much and it’s so much fun, especially with all the Ford drivers. Hopefully, me and whoever my teammate is we get to do that and have some fun with it, but, overall, I think the progression has been pretty good. Obviously, I would like to keep going with it and keep learning and developing, and I think the Xfinity car is really gonna suit my style of driving.”

HOW DIFFERENT WILL IT BE GOING FROM TRUCKS TO XFINITY? “I think after talking to a lot of drivers who have been in the same position as me, going to Trucks and Xfinity versus ARCA and all that, I think there has been a lot of drivers say the Xfinity car will be a lot easier than the truck and it relates more to how ARCA was, so I think it should be pretty good because of that.”

THE OBVIOUS GOAL IS TO GET ONE MORE LEVEL UP. HOW DO YOU SEE THIS XFINITY PLAN GOING? “We’re definitely gonna be here for a few years. I think when it comes to the progression of everything and our goals, I’d say we’re very aligned on that – me and the team – and accomplishing what we want to. I think my goal is to obviously make the playoffs in my first year, so everyone is on board with that and we’re gonna try to get really good finishes as we go.”

ARE YOU EXCITED WITH THE SPEED THE TEAM SHOWED IN ITS FIRST YEAR IN XFINITY? “Yeah, for sure and I think with all the assets on the technical side that Ford is bringing to the team, it’s definitely gonna elevate it even more with their investment and everything they’re doing to help out on the technical side. I think there are a lot more aspects coming to the team next year and I’m really excited for that because it will definitely help out a lot.”

HOW WILL IT BE HAVING ROUSH YATES POWER UNDER THE HOOD? “It’s gonna be fun. It’s gonna be a journey. It’s gonna be a learning curve. My first Xfinity race the car drove so different from what I was used to and what I was used to in trucks and it was just a great experience.”

HOW DID THIS DEAL COME TOGETHER? “Honestly, we were at COTA and my boyfriend was walking around. He does all of my filming and video editing and Wade ended up pulling him in the hauler and having a conversation with him. I had already gone to intros, so before driver intros he came up to me and said, ‘Hey, I just had this conversation. It seems to be a too good to be true scenario.’ I was like, ‘Man, that does sound like a really good opportunity. It must be too good to be true.’ So we started the conversations with AM and everything they had to offer from their side and it was truly one of those situations and one of those opportunity of a lifetime deals and opportunity of a career type deal. So, that’s where it all started and we just kept progressing from there.”

Hailie Deegan Signs Multiyear NASCAR Xfinity Series Agreement with AM Racing Beginning in 2024

CHARLOTTE, N.C.: Officials from AM Racing confirmed today that Ford Performance Motorsports development driver Hailie Deegan has inked a multiyear deal with the team to pilot the No. 15 Ford Mustang full-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series beginning with the season-opener at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway on February 17, 2024.

Deegan will join the Statesville, N.C. team following a three-year stint in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series, including running the full 23-race schedule with ThorSport Racing aboard the No. 13 Ford F-150 this season.

With just two races remaining on the Truck Series schedule, Deegan’s season has been highlighted by a career-best sixth-place finish at Texas Motor Speedway in April.

The two-time NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series, Most Popular driver, also made her NASCAR Xfinity Series debut during the 2022 season when she piloted the No. 07 Ford Mustang for SS GreenLight Racing with Jeff Lefcourt at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway, where she impressed with a lead lap 13th-place performance after starting 20th.

Deegan, 22, also competed in the ARCA Menards Series West in 2018 and ’19, earning three victories, respectively.

She also boasts a decorated off-road racing career and has embraced a strong presence in the Camping World SRX Series.

“I am excited about the opportunity to compete full-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, starting next year with AM Racing,” said Deegan. “From the start, the team has been nothing but great to work with, and the vision that Wade has for the team to accomplish align with my values perfectly.

“Through the support of Ford and the AM Racing team, I feel that we will achieve great things together in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, and I can’t wait to see what the next few years have in store for all of us.”

Deegan, a native of Temecula, Calif., joined Ford Performance as part of its driver development program following the 2019 season and drove in a variety of different disciplines in 2020, including the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge and the premier ARCA Menards Series division in 2020, where she recorded seven top-five and 17 top-10s overall earning a third place finish in championship points and the highest position by a female driver in the NASCAR-owned developmental series.

She also claimed ARCA Rookie of the Year honors.

Ford Performance Motorsports is the high-performance division of the Ford Motor Company and the multinational name used for its motorsport and racing activity.

From ARCA, she advanced to the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series for two seasons at David Gilliland Racing (now TRICON Garage) before moving to Ohio’s ThorSport Racing in 2023 as teammate to Truck Series champions Matt Crafton and Ben Rhodes while running a fourth full-time truck alongside multi-time series winner Ty Majeski.

2024 will begin her newest endeavor with Ford Performance Motorsport’s driver development program in AM Racing’s sophomore NASCAR Xfinity Series season.

“We are excited to see Hailie continuing to advance her career by running full-time with AM Racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series in 2024,” said Mark Rushbrook, global director Ford Performance Motorsports.

“Hailie works so hard on and off the track, and AM Racing will surround her with a great team to continue her development. From what we saw from Hailie in her Xfinity Series debut in Las Vegas last year, we look forward to some great results in 2024.”

AM Racing has also renewed its agreement with Roush Yates Engines to continue to provide the legendary Ford horsepower for the No. 15 Ford Mustang for the anticipated 33-race schedule next season.

“Congratulations to Hailie, Wade and Everyone at AM Racing on this new partnership heading into 2024 and beyond,” said Doug Yates President & Chief Executive Officer of Roush Yates Engines. “Our team at Roush Yates Engines looks forward to our continued relationship with AM Racing next season and powering Halie Deegan in partnership with Ford Performance in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.”

AM Racing also announced Thursday the addition of AirBox, Inc. (AirBox) and VIVA Tequila Seltzer, who will serve as primary marketing partners for Deegan throughout her inaugural Xfinity Series season.

In 2017, AirBox was established to focus on building the world’s best air purifiers for indoor occupied spaces. This coincided with people starting to wake up to issues with indoor air quality. With new challenges to air cleanliness, such as COVID-19 and wildfire smoke, people are looking for effective and proven solutions to ensure they receive cleaner air, at last.

Their history in delivering clean air systems gives them an expertise that is unmatched. AirBox uses some of the most effective air filtration technologies that exist with Certified HEPA and Advanced Molecular Adsorption and manufactures products that meet the stringent new ventilation standard, ASHRAE Standard 241.

Today, AirBox filtration systems are used across the country, purifying the air and capturing harmful irritants to create healthier, safer spaces. They’ve become the trusted choice for hospitals, educational centers, offices, warehouses, construction zones, public assembly, sports facilities, and more.

They’re proud to build all products to the highest standards in the USA at their North Carolina production facility. Every day, AirBox is working hard to give the American people the safer learning, working, and living environments they deserve—helping people breathe easy and live better.

“This partnership with Hailie means a lot for our company,” said Adam Smith, president of AirBox. “She is someone who really cares about health and wellbeing. And we do too. Healthy air is important for people, especially athletes. They watch everything they put into their body so closely, but they often don’t think about the quality of the air they are breathing.

“More than ever, indoor air quality is an important topic. Finally, the era of cleaner air is here. With standards like ASHRAE Standard 241 being established, it means we all will finally get the cleaner air we deserve. AirBox plans to lead the way to clean air with Hailie next year, on and off the track.”

Viva Tequila Seltzer, a company that redefines indulgence, was founded in July 2020 in Boston, Massachusetts, by three washed-up college athletes. The shared passion this group had for spending time with friends on the golf course while enjoying a refreshing drink gave rise to the creation of a healthier tequila-based seltzer. These founders have created a product that marries their love for a balanced lifestyle with a refreshing drink.

With its ethos rooted in health and wellness, Viva Tequila Seltzer offers a range of flavors, including Huckleberry, Elderberry, Watermelon, and Grapefruit. Each can contains just 88 calories, zero carbs, and zero sugar, making it the perfect choice for health-conscious consumers.

Gluten-free, keto-friendly, vegan, paleo, non-GMO, and kosher, Viva is truly a ‘better for you’ option without compromising on taste. Viva’s founders, who come from a background in the beer industry, saw their taste preferences and lifestyles evolving.

They desired something more refreshing, drinkable, and aligned with their changing preferences. The result is a premium product that doesn’t make you sacrifice your diet while being awesomely refreshing.

“Viva Tequila Seltzer is excited to join AM Racing in announcing their partnership with their dynamic new driver, Hailie Deegan, as they embark on a thrilling journey to redefine winning in NASCAR,” said Morgan Lockwood, Co-Founder of Viva Tequila Seltzer. “We’re thrilled to raise our Viva cans to the prospect of countless Victory Lane celebrations with Hailie and the entire AM Racing team next season.”

Reflecting on their accomplishments during the 2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series season and looking ahead to 2024 with Deegan, AM Racing president Wade Moore emphasized the continued shared “Future Focused” vision and the strengthening infrastructure for next year and years to come.

“AM Racing is proud to announce the addition of Hailie to the family,” offered AM Racing team president Wade Moore. “We are excited to provide her with a home where she can grow as a cornerstone of our young program.

“It is an exciting time as we continue to strengthen our relationships within the Ford camp, AIRBOX, Viva, and our other partners respectively. There is a great deal of work to be done for all of us, but we are grateful and welcome the challenges ahead.”

Additional details on Deegan’s NASCAR Xfinity Series program with AM Racing will be announced in due course, including crew chief, car chief and additional marketing partners.

NASCAR Announces 2024 National Series Schedules, Start Times, Networks

First-Ever Visit to Iowa Speedway Headlines NASCAR Cup Series Schedule

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 4, 2023) – NASCAR today announced the 2024 schedules, start times and networks for the NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series. NASCAR will etch another first into the record books in 2024 when the Cup Series visits Iowa Speedway in the nation’s Heartland, the latest installment in a trend that has seen Cup Series debuts at the Chicago Street Race, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and World Wide Technology Raceway – among other venues – in recent years.

The 7/8-mile short track in Newton, Iowa hosted the Xfinity Series and CRAFTSMAN Truck Series from 2009 to 2019, but this time the sport’s biggest stars in the Cup Series will head to Iowa on Sunday, June 16, 2024, airing live on USA Network at 7 p.m. ET.

“NASCAR is committed to delivering an annual schedule that continues to be bold and dynamic across all three national series while maintaining the famed destinations that our fans love,” said Ben Kennedy, NASCAR Senior Vice President of Racing Development and Strategy. “The 2024 NASCAR National Series schedules strike a great balance between visiting many of our traditional tracks that continue to put on a great show, and newer locations like our first Cup race in Iowa and our highly anticipated return to the streets of Chicago that create ‘bucket list’ moments and attract new fans to America’s leading motorsport.”

The 2024 Cup Series season will commence with the already announced third installment of the Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum in Los Angeles, Calif. on Sunday, Feb. 4 on FOX and FOX Deportes at 8 p.m. ET. For the first time in Cup Series history, a NASCAR Mexico Series race will precede the main event on Sunday afternoon featuring the most talented drivers from Mexico’s premier motorsports series.

The running of the 66th annual DAYTONA 500 at Daytona International Speedway again marks the start of the Cup Series regular season on Sunday, Feb. 18, airing live on FOX at 2:30 p.m. ET.

Additional highlights to the NASCAR Cup Series schedule include:

    • Both 2024 races at Richmond Raceway will now take place in prime time – the first on Easter Sunday, March 31 (7 p.m. ET, FOX) and also on Sunday, August 11 (6 p.m. ET, USA Network).
    • A return to the concrete high-banks at Bristol Motor Speedway for the spring race (Sunday, March 17, 3:30 p.m. ET, FOX).
    • NASCAR’s annual All-Star Race (Sunday, May 19, 8 p.m. ET, FS1) will return to historic North Wilkesboro Speedway. Kyle Larson took home the $1 million prize this season in NASCAR’s return to the venue for the first time since 1996.

“I’ve always enjoyed the ROVAL. Last year was probably our fastest road course race we have had, leading a lot of laps, and having a top-five finish. I think from the things we are doing and building off the speed we had in Watkins Glen, the ROVAL is a racetrack that if we execute and do everything right, we can have a real shot to win the race. I can’t wait to get there and focus on trying to go steal a win.” – AJ Allmendinger on Charlotte ROVAL

Justin Haley, No. 31 LeafFilter Gutter Protection Camaro ZL1

    • Justin Haley has made two NCS starts at the Charlotte ROVAL and earned a top-five finish in the 2022 Bank of America ROVAL 400 with Kaulig Racing.
    • So far in the 2023 NCS season, Haley has earned one top five and five top-10 finishes, with a best qualifying effort of third.
    • Haley’s best finish of the season came from his runner-up finish in the first-ever race at the Chicago Street Course where he led 23 laps, the most he has led in a single race.
    • After completing the 2023 Coca-Cola 600 and Alsco Uniforms 300, Haley now holds the record for the most NASCAR National Series miles completed in a single day by any driver in NASCAR history.

“I really enjoy racing at the ROVAL. Not only is it a home track, we have had some pretty solid results in the past, both in the Cup Series and the Xfinity Series. Hopefully we can execute and put together another solid road-course race to finish out the season.” – Justin Haley on Charlotte ROVAL

    • Taylor has made one previous NXS start with Kaulig Racing this season at Portland International Raceway, earning a 27th-place finish.

“I’m really excited to be back with Kaulig Racing this weekend at the ROVAL. I feel like we had a great showing in Portland for our first time out; we just didn’t get the result to show it. There will still be challenges to face this weekend. Live pit stops will be the main one, which we didn’t have in Portland. I’ve spent time with the team this week in the simulator and watching a lot of footage. I feel as prepared as I can be going into the weekend.” – Jordan Taylor on Charlotte ROVAL

Chandler Smith, No. 16 Quick Tie Products Chevrolet Camaro

    • Chandler Smith will make his first start at the Charlotte ROVAL in the Drive for the Cure 250 presented by BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina.

    Cole Custer Notes of Interest

    • Cole Custer heads to Saturday’s Drive for the Cure 250 on the Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway Roval with nothing to lose but everything to win. Prior to last weekend’s Xfinity Series open date, the driver of the No. 00 Haas Automation Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) clinched his spot in the Round of 8 of this year’s playoffs on points. With his sixth-place finish Sept. 23 at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Custer found himself third in the playoff standings, 62 points above the top-eight cutline. He finished fourth in the Round of 12 opener Sept. 15 at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway. Custer has now made the Round of 8 in all four of his fulltime seasons in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. He joins Justin Allgaier and John Hunter Nemechek as the only drivers to lock themselves into the next round of playoffs prior to this weekend’s cutoff race at Charlotte. With the weight of playoff points racing off his shoulders for one race, Custer plans to focus on ending the Round of 12 on a high note by parking his Ford Mustang in victory lane at the Charlotte Roval. With top-10 finishes in his two prior starts at the track, Custer is confident as he and his team head to the eighth road-course race of the 2023 season.
    • The Drive for the Cure 250 marks Custer’s third Xfinity Series start at the road course built inside the Charlotte Motor Speedway oval. He made his first start in the inaugural Roval race in September 2018, when he finished seventh and led five laps. He followed that with an eighth-place finish in September 2019 after starting sixth. He has an additional three starts outside of the Xfinity Series on the Roval, all coming in the NASCAR Cup Series from 2020 to 2022 with a best finish of ninth in October 2020.
    • Custer and the No. 00 team have been a force to be reckoned with at the previous seven road-course races this season. He won two of those seven starts and earned top-10 finishes five times. Custer won on June 3 at Portland (Ore.) International Raceway in his first start at the track and on July 1 in the inaugural Chicago Street Race. In his Xfinity Series career, Custer has raced a total of 22 road-course races. Of those, he’s earned 16 10-top finishes. He and the team hope to keep the road-course success going as the Round of 12 comes to a close.
    • In honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Custer’s No. 00 Haas Automation Ford Mustang will pay tribute Diana Falsettti, a double breast cancer survivor, by displaying her name above the passenger side window. Falsetti’s son, Anthony “Pockets” Arnold, works as a front suspension mechanic at Stewart-Haas Racing for both the Cup Series and the Xfinity Series cars.

    Riley Herbst Notes of Interest

    • Riley Herbst and the No. 98 Monster Energy team head into Saturday’s Drive for the Cure 250 on the Charlotte Roval refreshed from a much-needed off weekend for the Xfinity Series competitors. While the team enjoyed the off weekend, Herbst made use of the opportunity to gain more experience by hopping behind the wheel of the No. 36 Beast Unleashed White Haze Ford Mustang for Front Row Motorsports in last Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series YellaWood 500 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. It was his second time driving the No. 36 Ford Mustang after piloting it in the Cup Series regular season-finale at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. Herbst qualified an impressive sixth at Talladega after being the fastest in the first of Saturday’s two rounds of qualifying. On race day, he stayed in the top-10 for the opening laps before dropping back in the pack to try and avoid mayhem. Later, Herbst achieved a career milestone when he led his first laps in the Cup Series – leading five times for a total of 10 laps. After avoiding multiple incidents in the final stage, Herbst was running third on a restart with 13 laps to go. As the field came to the checkered flag, he was pushing SHR’s Kevin Harvick toward the lead, but contact from behind caused Herbst to spin as the field crossed the finish line. He was able to salvage a Cup Series career-best ninth-place finish. He opened the season in February with a 10th-place finish in his Cup Series debut during the 65th running of the Daytona 500. It gave Herbst top-10s in each of his NASCAR national series debuts. He was sixth in his first Xfinity Series appearance in June 2018 at Iowa Speedway in Newton, eighth in his NASCAR Truck Series debut, also in June 2018, at Gateway International Raceway near St. Louis, and seventh in his first ARCA Menards Series start in April 2017 at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway.
    • The Drive for the Cure 250 will be Herbst’s fourth career Xfinity Series start on the Charlotte Roval. Herbst had a strong outing in his first start there in 2020 during a torrential downpour. He ran up front and led seven laps en route to a 12th-place finish, best among that year’s rookie class. In October 2021, Herbst started ninth and was holding his position in the top-10 during the final stage before a suspension issue ended his race seven laps from the finish. Last October, Herbst started 11th and led a lap before an accident ended his bid five laps from the finish.
    • Herbst is driving for the team that knows how to win on the Roval. SHR’s No. 98 team won the inaugural Xfinity Series race there in Sept. 2018 with driver Chase Briscoe. It was Briscoe’s first career Xfinity Series victory. He led twice for 33 laps to beat Justin Marks by 1.478 seconds.

Cole Custer, Driver of the No. 00 Haas Automation Ford Mustang

Your solid finishes in the first two playoff races clinched your spot in the Round of 8 as you head to Saturday’s Round of 12 finale on the unpredictable Charlotte Roval. How are you approaching this weekend, knowing that you don’t have to focus on the points situation?

“We’re going there to win, now. The points are off the table, so we can just focus on winning at Charlotte. I honestly think we’ll have a good shot at parking our No. 00 Haas Automation Ford Mustang in victory lane. The Roval has been good to us in the past. We knew that to make it to the Round of 8, we would have to put together a couple of races with speed and no mistakes. We did exactly that and were able to lock ourselves in early. It takes a lot of the pressure off as we head into this final race of the round. I’m proud of this team and hope we can keep this going into the next round.”

You’ve had solid runs on the Charlotte Roval in your previous starts there, earning back-to-back top-10s in 2018 and 2019. Do you feel like this is a solid track for you and the team, and what are your thoughts heading into the weekend?

“I think the Roval has been a good track for us throughout my career at Stewart-Haas Racing. On top of that, our road-course cars have been really good this year, and we even scored two victories with these cars this season. Hopefully, we keep that going and take that to the Roval this weekend. I think it’ll be a strong race for us, especially since we’re not watching the points. We just need to have a fast car and not make mistakes to keep outselves in the game at the end.”

Riley Herbst, Driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang

You spent your Xfinity Series off weekend behind the wheel of a NASCAR Cup Series car last weekend at Talladega. How does driving in that series help you as a young driver, and is there anything that can translate to the Xfinity Series?

“It helps with overall experience and just showing everyone what we can do. Not much translates over from the Xfinity cars to the Cup cars anymore, so it’s about getting the seat time as a young driver. I came into NASCAR at a time when we didn’t really have a ton of practice because of the pandemic, so it really does help me understand some of these bigger tracks. The superspeedways have always been some of my favorite tracks, so to be able to get extra seat time is a plus, and it helps showcase what I can do in the NextGen car, as well. It’s all positives when you’re able to drive the Cup Series cars.”

The Charlotte Roval has been a wild card for you in the past, but you’ve also never been in this situation where you don’t have to worry about the points situation. How are you approaching this weekend, where you can just focus on bringing a fast racecar and making the moves for a win?

“To be honest, this is one track that I haven’t been able to wrap my head around. It’s not that we haven’t run decent there in the past, but I think I was just at a disadvantage because I never had practice on this track, and I was never able to lay down laps outside of the simulator until it was race time. Then the past two years, we’ve just had such bad luck. It’s nice to know that we’re not watching this playoff bubble this year and we can just focus on getting the car better for the future, but it’s also such a difficult track. It’s unique, but I’ve been leaning on Cole (Custer) a lot to try and see what he’s done differently. Hopefully, we can have a strong weekend as a team.”

Sammy Smith to Bolster JR Motorsports 2024 Driver Lineup

Multi-year deal lands Smith in No. 8 Chevrolet in NXS Competition

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Sept. 26, 2023) – JR Motorsports has tabbed current NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoff contender and two-time ARCA Menards Series East champion Sammy Smith as its newest driver, the team announced today. Beginning in 2024, Smith will command JRM’s iconic No. 8 Chevrolet Camaro in full-time NXS competition with partnership from Pilot Flying J, TMC Transportation and the Allstate Peterbilt Group.

“Sammy is a great fit for our program and will mesh well with our other drivers,” said JRM team owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. “He’s a young, talented racer who’s willing to learn and carries himself with a lot of professionalism. He has a bright future ahead. I’m excited for our team to help him continue his journey.”
Smith, 19, transitions to JRM after spending the past two seasons stockpiling stats that include a win at Phoenix Raceway – which made him the youngest NXS winner in the track’s history – six top-five and 15 top-10 finishes. Smith also clinched a coveted spot in the NXS Playoffs this season. He replaces longtime JRM driver Josh Berry, who is moving to the Cup Series in 2024 to fill the seat vacated by retiring superstar Kevin Harvick.

“I am very appreciative for the support of Pilot Flying J, TMC Transportation and all my partners that helped make this happen,” said Smith, a native of Johnston, Iowa. “The opportunity to race for JR Motorsports is one I am looking forward to and cannot wait to see what we all accomplish together.”

Smith’s been aligned with Pilot Flying J, TMC Transportation and Allstate Peterbilt Group since his career began. As the largest operator of travel centers in North America, Pilot Flying J is a Knoxville, Tenn.-based company with more than 750 retail locations. Based out of Des Moines, Iowa, TMC Transportation is the nation’s largest employee-owned open deck transportation company. The Allstate Peterbilt Group is the largest privately held factory-authorized dealer group in the Upper Midwest.

“It’s special to welcome Pilot Flying J, TMC Transportation and Allstate Peterbilt Group back into the JRM family,” said JRM CEO Kelley Earnhardt Miller. “They were part of our Xfinity program for five years and were instrumental in helping us become a four-car operation in 2017. This reunion shows a lot of promise with a talent like Sammy at the wheel. We can’t wait to go to work with them.”

All three brands spent the 2017-21 NXS seasons in partnership with JRM. The relationship produced Pilot Flying J’s first series victory at Daytona International Speedway in 2019 prior to a second win at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in 2021.

“We have been supporting and cheering on Sammy throughout his journey in the Xfinity Series for the last two seasons,” said Adrienne Ingoldt, vice president of brand and marketing for Pilot Flying J. “We’re excited for the next chapter in his career and seeing the success he‘ll bring behind the wheel of JRM’s No. 8 car.”

Smith, who began racing at the age of 8, carved his path through the ranks by way of go-karts, Legend Cars, Late Models and Super Late Models, winning several crown-jewel events in the latter such as the Winchester 400, Redbud 400 and Governor’s Cup. He has raced in multiple series, including the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and ARCA Menards Series. In addition to two championships, Smith is a 15-time winner at the ARCA Menards Series level.

“We are excited to continue our motorsports partnership with Sammy as he joins the JRM race team,” said Jason Webb, EVP, asset management for TMC Transportation. “Having been a partner with JRM for several years, we know they are a first-class organization. Sammy will be joining a team that will provide him with the resources and tools to dominate on the track and continue to develop to reach his full potential.”
Smith will join Justin Allgaier, Brandon Jones and Sam Mayer in completing JRM’s driver lineup in 2024. Specific partner races and crew duties for Smith and the No. 8 team will be announced at a later date.
