JD Motorsports and Brennan Poole teaming up with athletes from the University of Kansas

July 27, 2023 – Houston, TX – BeONE Sports – developers of a platform where accomplished athletes’ movements are digitized into a phone app with the goal of creating a training paradigm for athletes to learn – today announced the first-of-its-kind collaboration with Mass St. Collective and the University of Kansas to bring a Collegiate NIL NASCAR car to the upcoming NASCAR race on September 9 at Kansas Speedway.

The collaboration also includes JD Motorsports, eleven (11) University of Kansas student-athletes being featured on the race car, and Mass St. Collective – the KU NIL Collective founded in 2021 to help Jayhawk student-athletes build their personal brand and benefit from their name, image and likeness.

“Our goal at Mass St. Collective is to find new and unique instances where we can grow the brand of our KU student-athletes in new and meaningful ways through name, image and likeness.” says Dan Beckler, President of Mass St. Collective. “To partner with BeOne Sports and have 11 Jayhawks on a NASCAR Xfinity Series Race car is something that has never been done before, and it’s an exciting way to bring NIL and college athletes to the racing industry. Brand loyalty is the best among NASCAR fans, and we hope this car only adds to that. What makes this even more special is to debut the car in our home state at Kansas Speedway.”

“I’m so excited to be a part of something that’s never been done before! I love Kansas and it’s going to be so cool to have the college athletes on the car and give them a ride in our fast race car!” said Brennan Poole, driver of the #6 JD Motorsports Chevrolet.

Additionally, BeONE Sports is developing technology to level the racetrack. With the technology available from BeONE Sports, JD Motorsports hopes to become more competitive with the NASCAR Xfinity Series’ top teams and is exploring a variety of applications using comparative training within the team.

”JD Motorsports and Brennan Poole are teaming up with athletes from the University of Kansas for The Kansas Lottery 300 on September 9th at Kansas Speedway. We are happy to have BeONE back, Scott and I have worked very hard to put the NIL deal together to create a first in Nascar.” said Tony Priscaro, VP of Marketing and Sales for JD Motorsports.

“We believe athletes are everywhere, and we are very excited to bring new and interesting NIL opportunities to student-athletes. The KU NIL NASCAR is a great example of collaboration and driving innovation…literally,” says Scott Deans, BeONE Sports Founder and CEO.

BeONE Sports will be on location in Kansas from September 7th-9th. They will be kicking off their collaboration with athletes from the Kansas CIty Chiefs on September 7th, working with University of Kansas athletes on campus on September 8th, and at the NASCAR race on September 9th. Road America NASCAR Xfinity Series Advance
    NASCAR Xfinity Series Overview

    • Event: Henry 180 (Round 20 of 33)
    • Date: Saturday, July 29
    • Location: Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin
    • Layout: 4.048-mile, 14-turn road course
    • Time/TV/Radio: 3 p.m. EDT on NBC/MRN/SiriusXM NASCAR Radio

    Cole Custer Notes of Interest

    • Cole Custer and the No. 00 Haas Automation team head to Saturday’s Henry 180 at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, ready to embrace another NASCAR Xfinity Series road-course weekend. In the team’s four races going left and right this season, Custer has won in two of them – June 3 at Portland (Ore.) International Raceway and July 2 in the Inaugural Chicago Street Race. In the season’s first road-course race March 25 at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas, Custer looked to be on his way to a solid finish until a late-race incident took him out of contention. Saturday’s race marks Custer’s 20th career Xfinity Series road-course starts. In his previous 19, he has earned 14 top-10 finishes and led a total of 41 laps with an average finish of 10.4. Custer’s average road-course finish is identical to his average finish in 21 Xfinity Series starts on short tracks – ovals less than 1 mile in length.
    • Saturday’s Henry 180 will mark Custer’s fifth Xfinity Series start at Road America. In his four prior starts from 2017 to 2022, he only finished outside the top-10 once. He earned a best finish of fourth after starting from the front row in the August 2018 race on the 4.048-mile, 14-turn circuit. In his most recent start last season, in the No. 07 SS Greenlight Racing Ford Mustang, Custer qualified fourth and led six laps before an accident took him out on lap 43. Custer also has three starts outside of the Xfinity Series at Road America – two in the NASCAR Cup Series with a best result of 15th in July 2022, and one in the ARCA Menards Series, which resulted in an 11th-place finish after starting fifth in August 2017.
    • Custer finished in the top-10 in all three of his NASCAR Truck Series outings on road courses, all at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario. His best was his most recent, a second-place run from the pole with a race-high 39 laps led in the No. 00 JR Motorsports entry in 2016.

    Riley Herbst Notes of Interest

    • Riley Herbst and the No. 98 Monster Energy team for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) hope to keep their momentum rolling as they head to Saturday’s Henry 180 at Road America. Last Saturday at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway, Herbst was in prime position to fight for his first career Xfinity Series victory when the team took a gamble and stretched his fuel run in the closing laps of the race. Herbst inherited the lead by staying on track during a lap-81 caution, but on the ensuing restart was unable to hold off his competitors on fresh tires. He held on for a fourth-place finish, his fourth top-five of the season and second with new crew chief Davin Restivo.
    • Saturday’s race at Road America will mark Herbst’s fourth Xfinity Series start at the track. He posted back-to-back seventh-place finishes in his most recent outings at the iconic circuit, both with SHR, in 2021 and 2022. He qualified third for last season’s race and charged from the 34th starting position in the 2021 race. Herbst started fifth and finished 18th in his Road America debut in 2020. Herbst has one start outside of the Xfinity Series at Road America, a lone August 2017 outing during his rookie season in the ARCA Menards Series that resulted in a runner-up finish for the then-18-year-old driver. It was one of six top-fives and 10 top-10s in 19 starts for Herbst that season, which included a victory at Pocono.
    • Only seven races remain before the NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoffs begin Sept. 15 at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway, and Herbst is currently defending his spot in the 12-driver playoff field. Heading into the weekend at Road America, he sits 11th in the driver standings but 12th in the playoff standings. With last weekend’s fourth-place finish at Pocono, Herbst extended his buffer over 13th-place Parker Kligerman from 18 to 26 points. He’s in position to secure his top-12 position on points, but a win, of course, would guarantee Herbst a spot in the playoffs. Meanwhile, he and the team are focused on continuing to string together solid finishes and score stage points through the regular-season finale Sept. 9 at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City.

Cole Custer, Driver of the No. 00 Haas Automation Ford Mustang

You’re headed to the 4.048-mile, 14-turn circuit at Road America after winning your last two road-course starts at Portland and Chicago. What are your expectations heading into the weekend with the No. 00 Haas Automation team?

“Road America is always a really fun place just because it’s a challenging course. There are so many different corners, and you kind of have a little bit of everything there. You have high-speed corners, slow-speed, so your car has to be ready for everything. The new pavement is definitely going to be different, so it’s going to be interesting to see how that changes things and how much the speed picks up. I still think it’ll be one of the best road courses we go to just because it has everything. I’m excited to go there with the No. 00 Haas Automation team this weekend to try to go for the win.”

What do you need to do in order to continue your road-course winning streak this weekend?

“I mean, there’s just so much that plays into these road courses, so you have to be prepared for anything it throws at you. There are so many different factors with the restarts and whether guys make mistakes or not. You just hope that you’re there to fight at the end of it all. So I think as long as we keep ourselves in a good position, have some solid speed in our Ford Mustang, and avoid making any big mistakes, we’ll have a shot to go to victory lane again this weekend.”

Riley Herbst, Driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang

You’ve said Road America is one of your favorite road courses on the schedule, and you’ve had some good runs with seventh-place finishes the past two years. What are your expectations for the weekend?

“Road America is always a fun place to go race. The fans are awesome, and it’s just such a unique road course. There’s a lot of room to move around and try to pass, but it can also get you into some trouble just like any other road course. We’ve been decent on road courses this year, and I’m hoping that we can get a good run this weekend in Wisconsin. If we can have a good qualifying run on Friday, it can really help us out in the race. This No. 98 Monster Energy team can get this Ford Mustang in victory lane, but we just have to put a good weekend together – a fast car, no mistakes, and being there at the end. I’m ready for the challenge.”

With your runner-up finish in the ARCA Menards Series race at Road America in 2017 to go with your back-to-back seventh-place finishes in the Xfinity Series there the past two seasons, do you feel you have some unfinished business there?

“Not really. You never want to finish second as a racecar driver, but we outperformed our car back in 2017 after making some mistakes at the beginning of the race. Two years ago, we had a rough start to the race weekend after wrecking in practice, but we were able to battle all the way from the back to get a top-10 finish. I think if we can make it through the weekend without any mistakes and stay out of trouble, we can be in contention for the win at the end. We have the speed.”

    Driver Quotes

“Going back to your home track is always a fun time and I am excited to see some family and hopefully grab a good run at Road America. I have not had the best luck there in the past but my No. 1 team has been putting together some really fast cars and I am excited to see what we can do this weekend, especially after coming off of a hot run in Pocono.” – Sam Mayer

“Road America is such a fun track to go to. It’s definitely a unique road course, but it’s always been one of my favorites. We’ve had a lot of speed on the road courses throughout this season and were close to getting the win back in Portland. If we can check all the boxes once again this weekend and keep all four wheels on the course, we should be right where we need to be at the end on Saturday with our BRANDT Professional Agriculture Chevrolet to fight for the win.” – Justin Allgaier

“We were really good at Road America last season and that showed with the result we had. We’ve put a lot of work in on these road courses and I’ve been in the sim this week so that I am ready for when we unload on Friday. Hopefully, we can have the same speed we have had the last few weeks and be in contention when it counts.” – Josh Berry’

“I ran pretty well here last year and I’ve spent some time in the sim preparing for Road America. We’re in Menards’ backyard this weekend, so it would be nice to have a good run for them and everyone at Pennington that will be there this weekend. I know Jason (Burdett, crew chief) and this team builds really good road course cars, so hopefully we can put it all together this weekend. ” – Brandon Jones

    • So far in the 2023 NCS season, Allmendinger has led seven laps and earned one top five, four top 10 and seven top-15 finishes.

“In the NextGen car, Richmond has probably been our worst racetrack and a place we still need to figure out. Our short track program has been getting better, and with what we are learning, we should go there and hopefully have a better race. Where that puts us at the end of the day, I’m not sure. Of the tracks left in the regular season, Richmond is definitely the one we have circled that we need to improve at. If we do that, I think that will give us confidence for the rest of them and have a shot to make the playoffs.” – AJ Allmendinger on Richmond Raceway

Justin Haley, No. 31 LeafFilter Gutter Protection Camaro ZL1

    • Justin Haley has made five NCS starts at Richmond Raceway with a best finish of 21st.
    • So far in the 2023 NCS season, Haley has earned one top five and five top-10 finishes with a best qualifying effort of third.
    • Haley’s best finish of the season came from his runner-up finish in the first-ever race at the Chicago Street Course where he led 23 laps, the most he has led in a single race.
    • After completing the 2023 Coca-Cola 600 and Alsco Uniforms 300, Haley now holds the record for the most NASCAR National Series miles completed in a single day by any driver in NASCAR history.

“We struggled quite a bit the last time we raced at Richmond. We have been working hard as a team preparing for this race and improving our short-track program, and I think as long as we control everything we can control and execute like we have been lately, we will be in a good spot going into the race.” – Justin Haley on Richmond Raceway

“Road America has always been one of my favorite racetracks in any form of racing I have done there. It’s a really challenging racetrack with all the corners and different aspects of the track with high speed and low speed. It’ll be different now with the repave, so we’ll have to get an understanding of how that changes the set-up of the racecar. It’s a place that I have always enjoyed and I can’t wait to be back there again.” – AJ Allmendinger on Road America

Daniel Hemric, No. 11 Cirkul Chevrolet Camaro

    • Daniel Hemric has made five NXS starts at Road America, where he has earned two top-five finishes and led 20 laps.
    • Hemric currently sits seventh in the 2023 NXS standings and has earned four top five and 11 top-10 finishes.

“I am excited to get on track at Road America and experience the unknowns of the freshly paved track. Kaulig Racing has a great road course program and builds strong road course cars. My teammate AJ Allmendinger has done a great job of showcasing that over the past couple years and I think we are slowly but surely finding what works for me within the road course program. The race fans are hard to beat here, I look forward to putting on a good show for them.” – Daniel Hemric on Road America

Chandler Smith, No. 16 Quick Tie Products Chevrolet Camaro

Chandler Smith will make his first NXS start at Road America in the Henry 180.
Smith currently sits fifth in the 2023 NXS standings with one win, five top-five and eight top-10 finishes.

“Road America is a challenging track, not only for its length, but its elevation changes throughout. You’ve really got to get a good exit on the last corner, for example, because there’s a huge climb to the line that can punish you if you don’t have good momentum out of turn 14. The carousel is going to be an important corner to get right every single time, not just for the speed you need to carry through the kink down towards turn 12, but to keep it out of the grass on the outside. Our goal is to stay out of trouble and bring home a solid result.” – Chandler Smith on Road America

RICHMOND RACEWAY / ROAD AMERICA NOTES

    Sat., July 29 – NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series @ Richmond, 7:30 p.m. ET (FS1)

Sat., July 29 – NASCAR Xfinity Series @ Road America, 3 p.m. ET (NBC)

Sun., July 30 – NASCAR Cup Series @ Richmond, 3 p.m. ET (USA)

The finale of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series regular season highlights this weekend’s action on Saturday night at Richmond Raceway with five Ford drivers still having a chance to make the postseason field. The NASCAR Cup Series will close out the Richmond portion of the weekend on Sunday while the NASCAR Xfinity Series drivers tackle the course at Road America on Saturday.

Joey Logano: “Richmond is probably one of our best tracks. I feel really good about it. It’s a track that, for whatever reason, Paul really has his head wrapped around and gives me a really strong race car. I assume he’s gonna be able to do that again because he’s done that for years, and it’s also a track that fits into my wheelhouse and we can really work together. It’s a track that’s not a hammer track. It’s not one of those new asphalt tracks where you can drive so hard every lap without penalty. You eventually pay a penalty at Richmond, so that makes it kind of fun for me. You go back to the old school style of racing with a lot of tire fall off and it makes you feel like you have a bunch of horsepower, but you actually can’t put the power down, so all of that type of stuff is pretty fun.”

Michael McDowell: “Our short track program has taken a big step in the right direction and at Richmond we obviously had a little bit of strategy that got up there, but we had a top 10 car, so I feel good about going back there. I feel good about what we learned at New Hampshire and some other short track stuff, too. It’s a daytime race starting in the afternoon, so it’s usually slicker and opens up some strategy. That’s been a strength of ours, so we’ll see how it goes.”

Brad Keselowski: “I like any track that we run well at. I’m entirely selfish. We’ve had some really good runs there. We’ve won some races and led a lot of laps and that always makes a track a lot of fun, and then the last two races there we’ve had some competitive runs as well, so I’m excited to go back there and build off it.”

    HARVICK GOING FOR REPEAT

Kevin Harvick is the defending winner of this weekend’s Cup Series race at Richmond after posting his second straight series win a year ago. Harvick, who won at Michigan the week before to break a 65-race winless streak, went back to victory lane after leading 55 laps and holding off a late charge from Christopher Bell. The win was Harvick’s 60th Cup victory, one of only 10 drivers in NASCAR history to achieve that.

    RICHMOND ONE OF LOGANO’S BEST

It would be easy to look at Joey Logano’s two career wins at Richmond and say it’s got to be one of his best tracks on the circuit, but the statistics provide further proof. In 28 career starts, Logano has 12 top 5 and 17 top 10 finishes, which gives him an average finish of 10.2. That’s his second-best average finish on tracks where he’s run more than five races. The only track where Logano has a better average finish is Las Vegas, where his three wins and 12 top-10 finishes in 20 starts works out to a 9.9 average finish.

HARVICK A CAREER TOP-10 FINISHER AT RICHMOND

Another Ford driver who has experienced consistent success at Richmond is Stewart-Haas Racing driver Kevin Harvick. This weekend will mark his 45th career Cup Series start at the track in which his 9.5 average finish is fourth-best among tracks currently on the circuit in which he has more than five starts. The other three tracks that statistically are Harvick’s best include: Homestead (7.3), Phoenix (8.6), and Indianapolis (8.6).

KESELOWSKI SOLE RICHMOND WINNER IN 2020

Richmond Raceway hosted two NASCAR Cup Series events a year from 1959-2019, but in 2020 the track had only one event due to COVID and Team Penske’s Brad Keselowski took the checkered flag in dominating fashion. Keselowski led 192-of-400 laps in recording his second career Cup win at the Virginia short track, and automatically advanced to the Round of 12. Overall, Ford led 297 laps on the night and had five drivers finish in the top 10, including Joey Logano (3rd), Kevin Harvick (7th), Aric Almirola (8th) and Clint Bowyer (10th).

    EDWARDS WINS ELKHART DEBUT

Carl Edwards, who was named to NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers list earlier this year, added Road America to his extensive list of circuits where he was victorious. The series made its debut there in 2010, when Edwards led 35 of the 50 laps to reach victory lane. A restart with three laps remaining showcased Edwards’ ability to quickly master the 4.048 mile road course as he skyrocketed to a 4.302-second margin of victory.

    A CINCH FOR CINDRIC

Austin Cindric is the most recent Ford winner at Road America from his 2020 championship campaign. After a major weather delay in Stage 1, Cindric powered his Ford Mustang to the front, leading a total of 19 laps for the win. Chase Briscoe also shared the top-three with Cindric, finishing third.

    REGULAR SEASON FINALE

Three Ford drivers have clinched spots in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series playoffs with a fourth or even a fifth hoping to punch their ticket on Saturday night at Richmond Raceway. Zane Smith, Ben Rhodes and Ty Majeski are all assured spots in the 10-driver postseason field while Matt Crafton and Hailie Deegan are still in the mix going into the final race of the regular season. Crafton goes into the event with a nine-point advantage over Stewart Friesen, but trails ninth-place Nick Sanchez by 12, so it’s possible he could move up in the standings and open a potential spot for Deegan, who would make the field with a victory.

Connor Mosack is ‘On the Road Again’

24-Year-Old Racer Ready for Fourth Career Start at Road America, but First in the NASCAR Xfinity Series

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (July 25, 2023) – Connor Mosack just can’t wait to get on the road again.

With a background in road-course racing from 30 career starts in the TA2 division of the Trans Am Series, the 24-year-old racer has had the Henry 180 NASCAR Xfinity Series race Saturday at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, circled on his calendar since before the season began.

Three of those TA2 races have come at Road America, including just three weeks ago when Mosack sampled the newly repaved surface spanning the entire 4.048-mile, 14-turn layout.

“There’s more grip in the low-speed corners, and I feel like you can kind of just hustle through those better. But some of the high-speed corners didn’t seem to have a whole lot more grip, and it seemed like there wasn’t quite as much grip off-line, so you had to be a little more disciplined with your line. Those were really the biggest differences,” Mosack said.

“The track was obviously smoother. There weren’t any bumps, which is nice for the driver, but you also like to have the bumps to be able to familiarize yourself with different parts of the track. I’m looking forward to going back there.”

Mosack heads back to “America’s National Park of Speed” with one of the Xfinity Series’ best teams – Joe Gibbs Racing. In his first Xfinity Series start at the track, Mosack will drive No. 19 Porter Pipe & Supply Toyota GR Supra, the same car he used to qualify fourth during the inaugural Chicago Street Race over the Fourth of July weekend and then competed among the top-five before the race was cut short due to weather.

It was yet another strong road-course outing in the Xfinity Series for Mosack, who finished eighth in just his ninth career Xfinity Series start June 3 at Portland (Ore.) International Raceway.

“Chicago was a place where I feel like I never really used all the speed that I had,” Mosack said. “We were conservative in practice and qualifying and even the first part of the race. We wanted to be there in the top-five and keep the car in one piece so we could race for the win. Unfortunately, we had a carburetor issue that forced us to pit early, and then the race was cut short by weather so we never got the chance to claw our way back. But the speed was there, for sure. To get back on a road course, especially one that I know really well in Road America, with the same car I had at Chicago – that gives us a lot of confidence.”

Mosack’s confidence turning left and right came from Trans Am. He spent two full seasons (2021-2022) in the series’ TA2 class with TeamSLR, never finishing outside of the top-four in the championship standings while scoring two wins and earning five poles.

“I think the most helpful thing I got from Trans Am, aside from laps on road courses, is just that the top guys in that series are really strong and have years of road-racing experience,” Mosack said. “Being around those guys made me a much better racer, and it’s certainly helped this year as I’ve gone up against a lot of really experienced drivers in the Xfinity Series.”

Billed as America’s Road-Racing Series, Trans Am and, particularly, its TA2 division, places drivers in purpose-built, tube-frame racecars with handling characteristics similar to cars in the Xfinity Series and ARCA Menards Series. And with more and more national NASCAR touring series competing on road courses – Road America marks the Xfinity Series’ fifth road-course race of the season – drivers are using TA2 as a platform to sharpen their skills and hone their racecraft.

“The cars do have a different feel to them with the weight and the horsepower differences,” said Mosack about the variations between a TA2 car and an Xfinity Series car. “You can definitely hustle the TA2 car a lot harder, and it’s a little bit more forgiving when you make a mistake. You can attack the brake zones more and you can get off and on the throttle a lot harder. But I’m still able to approach the races the same way because you’re still using the gas and the brake in similar ways, so I feel like being good in the TA2 car definitely helps in the Xfinity car. It all applies.”

That application process begins in earnest on Friday with Xfinity Series practice at 4 p.m. CDT/5 p.m. EDT followed by qualifying at 5 p.m. CDT/6 p.m. EDT. Thanks to Mosack’s familiarity with the track, he already knows where to place his focus, particularly turn 11, better known as The Kink.

“The Kink is one that’s really hard to be consistent through,” said Mosack, referencing the right-hand corner between the Carousel (turns nine and 10) and Canada Corner (turn 12). “It’s a corner you always feel like you can go through faster, but when you try to, you’re on the verge of hitting the wall because it’s so close to the track. So it’s a very high-risk, high-reward corner. A lot of time can be made or lost there, but it’s also one of the easiest places to destroy your car. It’s one of my favorite corners of any track we go to. It’s fun to try to get the most out of it every time.”

The Henry 180 gets underway at 2 p.m. CDT/3 p.m. EDT with live coverage provided by NBC and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. It will be the second race for primary sponsor Porter Pipe & Supply, a partnership Mosack brokered. Porter Pipe & Supply is a third-generation, family-owned and operated wholesale supplier of commercial and industrial pipe, valves, fittings, plumbing supplies, HVAC and refrigeration equipment and mechanical products. They made their NASCAR debut with Mosack at Chicago.

“It was awesome having Porter Pipe & Supply at Chicago,” Mosack said. “They brought a lot of their people out. We actually got to go by their headquarters there outside of Chicago and spend a lot of time with their employees. It was a really cool experience. They had their suite right there above pit road and I actually got to spend Sunday with them there for the Cup race. It’s a great group of people, an awesome family, and I’m really excited to have them back. I felt terrible for them that we didn’t get to complete the race at Chicago, so I’m very happy to have them back on the car at Road America.”

AJ Allmendinger, No. 16 Action Industries Camaro ZL1

    • AJ Allmendinger qualified 16th for the HighPoint.com 400 at Pocono Raceway.
    • Allmendinger drove up to 13th place within the first lap and made it up to 12th by lap three. When the first caution came out on lap five, Allmendinger told the team he was happy with the balance of his car and had better turn than he did in practice. Allmendinger restarted 12th on lap 10 and made his way up to 10th by lap 11. He continued to run 10th until the leaders come down pit road on lap 27, moving him up to fifth where he went on to finish the opening stage earning five stage points.
    • Allmendinger restarted 19th on lap 35. The caution quickly came out on lap 36 and made his way up to 16th where he would restart on lap 41 on the outside lane. He was shuffled back to 19th as the caution came out again on the restart. On lap 45, Allmendinger took the green flag from 19th and drove up to 15th before the caution flew again on the restart. The No. 16 Action Industries Chevy restarted 15th on lap 50, and Allmendinger drove up to 13th by lap 56, telling his team he was tighter on entry this run. He took over 12th on lap 63, where he ran until coming down pit road on lap 64 for a scheduled green flag stop. Allmendinger was scored in 31st place, one lap down, telling his team he was free in clean air. As the leaders came down pit road for green flag stops, Allmendinger made it up to 11th before the caution came out on lap 91 ending the second stage.
    • Allmendinger came down pit road under the stage break for four tires, fuel and an air pressure adjustment and would restart the final stage 20th. Making it up to 18th in the first lap, Allmendinger told the team he was tight in traffic. He continued to earn positions, taking over 16th before the caution came out on lap 105. On lap 110, Allmendinger restarted 14th and took over 12th before the lap was complete, but fell back to 15th by lap 119. Allmendinger came down pit road on lap 120 for a scheduled green flag stop from 12th place for four tires, fuel and an air pressure adjustment. As green flag stops cycled through, Allmendinger was 16th when the caution came out on lap 149. The caution came out again on the restart resulting in NASCAR overtime and the No. 16 went on to finish 17th in Pocono.

“We had a fast No. 16 Action Industries Chevy today in Pocono. Balance was really solid all day, but unfortunately strategy did not play out the way we needed it. I’m disappointed with the end result but overall really happy with the speed we had all weekend.” – AJ Allmendinger

Justin Haley, No. 31 LeafFilter Gutter Protection Camaro ZL1

    • Justin Haley qualified 19th for the HighPoint.com 400 at Pocono Raceway.
    • The first caution of the day came out after just six laps. Haley gained one position, sitting 18th. The green flag came back out on lap 11. While some of the field short pitted the stage, Haley finished out the stage in eighth place, earning valuable stage points.
    • Haley radioed that he lacked grip in the front tires of his No. 31 LeafFilter Gutter Protection Chevy before pitting for tires, fuel and an air pressure adjustment to help with front turn. The second stage began with three back-to-back cautions before finally going back green on lap 51. Haley ran in the top 15 and made it as high as 11th before making a scheduled, green-flag pit stop on lap 70 for four tires and fuel. The final caution of the stage came out with just four laps to go, ending the stage under yellow. Haley finished the second stage in 15th.
    • Haley pitted for four tires and fuel during the second stage break before the start of the final stage before restarting in 22nd place. The caution came out on lap 105, and the No. 31 team elected to stay out. The green flag came back out on lap 110 with Haley restarting from 15th place. Haley made a green-flag stop on lap 121 and would make his final pit stop of the day when the caution came on with 18 laps remaining. The field went back to green for just one lap before the next caution fell with 12 laps to go. Haley sat 23rd on the next restart before making contact with another car that would ultimately end his day a few laps shy of the finish. Haley was scored 33rd.

“We had a tough ending to a really hard-fought day in our No. 31 LeafFilter Gutter Protection Camaro ZL1. We struggled with grip in our front tires all day and just kept getting tighter and tighter. We had some solid pit stops and made some good changes so I thought we would be in a really good spot there with a handful of laps to go. Unfortunately our day ended a couple laps early.” – Justin Haley

    Explore the Pocono Mountains 225

Daniel Hemric, No. 11 Chevy Accessories Chevrolet

    • Daniel Hemric qualified second for the Explore the Pocono Mountains 225 at Pocono Raceway.
    • Hemric fought for the lead in the opening laps but ultimately kept his position. Although he reported lack of right-rear grip, Hemric remained in second place, where he finished the caution-free, opening stage, earning nine stage points.
    • Hemric came down pit road under the stage break for an air pressure and track bar adjustment, four tires and fuel before restarting third for the start of the second stage. Firing off free, Hemric fell back to eighth on lap 36, reporting his No.11 Chevy had not tightened up during the run. Not able to work his way back up front, Hemric finished stage two in ninth place.
    • Hemric pitted during the final stage break on lap 42 for four tires and fuel. He then restarted 11th on lap 46 before a wreck brought out the caution once again. Hemric stayed out restarted 12th on lap 51 before making his scheduled green-flag pit stop on lap 57 for fuel only. He had made his way back up to 12th before the next caution came out with 11 laps to go. Hemric made his final pit stop for four tires and fuel under caution before the field took the green flag with six laps remaining. The caution came back out on the restart, sending the race into overtime. Hemric restarted eighth and went on to finish fifth, as a caution came out on the final lap, making the race official.

“We didn’t have a great practice session to start the weekend, but we were able to qualify well and get ourselves a good starting position. Everyone at Kaulig Racing put their heads together to bring a different package this weekend, and I was surprised by the speed we had in stage one. It validated the direction we were going in. The stack up on the restart in stage two happened, and I could tell we got quite a bit more damage than we thought, because the car never felt the same after that restart. I lost speed after that. After strategy and making the most of a couple restarts, we got another top five for our Chevy Accessories Camaro.” – Daniel Hemric

Daniel Suarez, No. 10 LeafHome Water Solutions Chevrolet

    • Daniel Suarez qualified 23rd for the Explore the Pocono Mountains 225 at Pocono Raceway.
    • Suarez’s No. 10 LeafHome Water Solutions Chevrolet fired off tight but would improve on the long, green flag run for the duration of the entire first stage. During the closing laps of the stage, Suarez began running second-place lap times, ultimately finishing the opening stage in 15th place.
    • During the first stage break, Suarez radioed that he needed more rear security on entry of the corners. He pitted for four tires, fuel, left-rear air pressure and a track bar adjustment. Starting as the sixth car on the inside, Suarez fell back to 19th before the car began coming to him once again on the long run. The team made the call to short pit with three laps remaining in the stage for right-side tires and fuel, putting Suarez in 33rd to end the second stage.
    • Suarez stayed out during the second stage break, which would put hm in second place to start the final stage. As the final stage went green, the first, non-stage caution of the day immediately came out for a wreck behind Suarez. The green flag came back out on lap 51, before Suarez made his scheduled, green-flag pit stop for four tires and fuel on lap 55. Suarez was told to make up as much as he could while the stops cycled through. The next caution came out with 11 laps remaining. Suarez pitted from 13th place for four tires and fuel before restarting behind teammates Chandler Smith and Daniel Hemric. The caution flag came back out just one lap later, sending the field to overtime. Suarez restarted 13th with two laps remaining and worked his way up to 10th place, avoiding a last-lap wreck that would end the race under caution.

“All-in-all, we had a decent day. The car is clean, and we finished in the top 10. I felt like a was a little rusty getting back into a Xfinity car after six years or so, but it was a lot of fun. I’m very thankful to Chris Rice, Matt Kaulig, and everyone at Kaulig Racing for this opportunity. I really enjoyed it, and hopefully we can do it again in the future.” – Daniel Suarez

Chandler Smith, No. 16 Quick Tie Products Chevrolet

    • Chandler Smith qualified 16th for the Explore the Pocono Mountains 225 at Pocono Raceway.
    • Smith made up five positions in the first three laps before dropping back to 12th on lap 11. He told the No. 16 crew that the car felt good through turns one and two, but was snug when applying the throttle on the exit of turn three. Smith took over 11th with five laps to go where he finished the opening stage.
    • The No. 16 Quick Tie Products Chevy came down pit road for a track bar adjustment, fuel and four tires at the stage-break pit stop. Smith restarted sixth on the outside line when the green came back out on lap 26. He moved up to ninth on lap 28 but fell back to 10th where he finished the second stage.
    • Under the second stage caution, the team came down pit road for four tires and fuel. Smith restarted the final stage in 15th on lap 46, but a multi-car wreck brought out another caution. The green flag flew next on lap 51. Smith fought his way to sixth just one lap later but fell to eighth two laps later. After taking sixth back on lap 56, Smith came down pit lane for fuel only. The No. 16 cycled to 33rd on an alternate pit stop strategy. As green flag stops continued, Smith continued to move up in the field. With 11 laps to go, Smith made it up to 10th when the yellow flag flew again. Crew chief, Bruce Schlicker, called Smith to pit road for four fresh tires and a splash of fuel, putting him 10th on the restart with six laps to go. Smith lost six positions on the restart and sat 16th when the final caution flew with four to go in the race, setting up NASCAR Overtime. Smith restarted 16th and made contact with the No. 7 resulting in a 20th-place finish at Pocono Raceway.

“This was a rough day from the very beginning. I felt like we had a car that could improve as the race went on, but we were struggling to get it right on the exit of turn three and weren’t catching many breaks. We got caught up in other people’s problems eventually and limped home because of it. Regardless, I’m happy for both the No. 10 and No. 11 teams for their finishes. Even if we can’t get a top five week-in and week-out, it’s nice to see the hard work of the men and women back at the Kaulig Racing shop pay off.” – Chandler Smith

    Sound Bites:

“This top-five finish was big for the No. 98 Monster Energy team. We started 21st, obviously super deep in the field, and we just continued to work all day on our Ford Mustang. It was a big track position game, and everybody had their team trying to come up with the best strategy. We just had a great car, though. So, we capitalized on that, but I kind of beat myself up a little over the decision on what lane to choose on that final restart. I could’ve chosen bottom, but I just thought our tires were too old to hang with the leaders running on the bottom. We ultimately chose top and finished fourth. I think that’s what we needed after a few months of bad luck. I think we achieved the highest standards today.” – Riley Herbst, driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang

“Overall, I thought we had a solid Ford Mustang today. We were getting a little better with each run, and I guess it was just a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. We got turned on that restart, and sometimes it’s just not your day. But, our guys on the No. 00 Haas Automation team did a great job repairing the car and getting me back out there. We’ve got speed every weekend, so it’s just a matter of everything going right in a race. Today just wasn’t our day.” – Cole Custer, driver of the No. 00 Haas Automation Ford Mustang

Connor Mosack Finishes 34th at Pocono

Pocono Proves Tricky for Driver of IRWIN® TRADE STRONG™ Toyota GR Supra

    Date: Saturday, July 22

Event: Explore the Pocono Mountains 225

    Series: NASCAR Xfinity Series

Location: Pocono (Pa.) Raceway (2.5-mile triangle)

Format: 90 laps, broken into three stages (20 laps/20 laps/50 laps)

    Start/Finish: 4th / 34th (Accident, completed 85 of 92 laps)

Race Winner: Austin Hill of Richard Childress Racing (Chevrolet)

Note: Race extended two laps past its scheduled 90-lap distance due to a green-white-checkered finish.

    Overview:

The “Tricky Triangle” lived up to its name Saturday in the Explore the Pocono Mountains 225 NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway. Connor Mosack qualified his No. 19 IRWIN® TRADE STRONG™ Toyota GR Supra for Joe Gibbs Racing a stout fourth for the 90-lap race around the 2.5-mile triangle, but brake issues combined with a pit road penalty conspired to leave him with a 34th-place finish. Mosack finished ninth in the first stage, despite having his hands full with a loose-handling racecar. A trip to pit road afforded the team a chance to change four tires, add fuel and make adjustments. Quick pit work placed Mosack sixth for the restart, but the loose-handling condition persisted and Mosack noted that he was “snapping loose” at the exit of turn two. The handling issue was compounded when he lost brake power on lap 68. The 24-year-old racer from Charlotte, North Carolina, made a trip to pit road for the team to work on the brakes and wound up two laps down to the race leaders. Despite having his hands full with the car’s handling and its brake issues, Mosack continued to log laps as the race drew to a close. He was deep in the field when he came off turn two on lap 86 and made hard contact with the outside retaining wall. Mosack was able to drive the IRWIN® TRADE STRONG™ Toyota to pit road where the team assessed the damage and determined that they were unable to continue the race.

Connor Mosack driver of the No. 19 IRWIN® TRADE STRONG™ Toyota GR Supra for Joe Gibbs Racing:

“We just started losing the brake pedal pretty bad, so I was trying to manage that. We kind of maintained it and came down to pit to remove tape and cool the brakes off some more, but I made a mistake and went through too many boxes and got a penalty, which put us two laps down. We had a caution toward the end and it felt like the brakes came back to me a little, so I thought we were okay, and then all of a sudden I think the brake rotor exploded going into turn two. I had nothing, so I tried to hold it up into the wall to make the corner. It’s an unfortunate end to the day. I felt like we had a really fast car, especially in clean air. I have some things to work on to keep momentum up in turns one and two, so we have a lot of good notes to walk away with. Overall, it was a good learning day. Appreciate IRWIN TRADE STRONG for coming on board and Joe Gibbs Racing for bringing a great car.”

    Notes:

    ● This was Mosack’s 14th career NASCAR Xfinity Series start and his 12th of the season. It was his second start of 2023 with Joe Gibbs Racing.

    ● Mosack’s fourth-place qualifying effort matched his career best in the Xfinity Series. He toured the 2.5-mile triangle in 53.898 seconds at 166.982 mph. Mosack qualified fourth earlier this month for the inaugural NASCAR Xfinity Series race on the streets of downtown Chicago.

    ● Mosack finished second earlier in the day in the Sunset Hill Shooting Range 150 ARCA Menards Series race, equaling his previous best ARCA result, earned twice beforehand. Mosack finished second in the 2023 ARCA season-opener on Feb. 18 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway and he finished second on June 4, 2022 at Portland (Ore.) International Raceway in an ARCA Menards Series West race.

    Next Up:

Mosack returns to Joe Gibbs Racing next weekend for the Henry 180 NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. He will drive the No. 19 Porter Pipe & Supply Toyota GR Supra on Saturday, July 29 in the 45-lap race around the 4.048-mile, 14-turn circuit. It will be Mosack’s third and final Xfinity Series race of 2023 for Joe Gibbs Racing and it goes live at 3 p.m. EDT on NBC and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. Mosack will return to Sam Hunt Racing for the remainder of his Xfinity Series schedule.
