    TOYOTA QUOTES

JOHN HUNTER NEMECHEK, No. 20 Mobil 1 Toyota GR Supra, Joe Gibbs Racing

    Finishing Position: 1st

What a burnout and what a race. Can you take us through that last restart?

“I got a huge push from the 11 (Daniel Hemric), so thanks to Daniel for giving me that huge push. Hats off to this entire 20 team. Early on in the race, if you would have said that we were going to win the race, I would have told you that wasn’t going to be the case. We didn’t have the fastest car tonight. It wasn’t quite as fast as Xfinity 10G, but I’m really proud of this whole 20 team. First win for Mobil 1 with me at JGR (Joe Gibbs Racing) – won with them in the Truck Series. This is special. Glad Aspen (daughter) and Taylor (wife) are here, we get to go celebrate. Thank you to all of the fans that came out tonight. I appreciate you guys.”

How much did the track change?

“I don’t know if the track changed a ton. We just had to keep making our car better all night. We just had to keep making our Mobil 1 Toyota GR Supra better all night. Ben (Beshore, crew chief) and the guys did awesome. They made the right adjustments all night and got us where we needed to be. It came down to an overtime finish and luckily we were able to execute on that restart. Thank you to all of the men and women at Joe Gibbs Racing – proud to be the one holding the wheel of this 20 car. Man, Truck win for Toyota, Xfinity win for Toyota – the Toyota boys have some work to do tomorrow.”

Can you take me through this final restart today?

“I got a huge push from the 11 (Daniel Hemric), so thank you to Daniel. We definitely didn’t have the best car tonight, but we had the most perseverance. This team never gives up. Even when we are down, we continue to fight from the back to get to the front to go and win races. I feel like we have given a few away this year, but to come home with a win without the fastest car here means a lot. We were almost as fast as Xfinity 10 G, but we just needed to be a little bit faster. Thank you to Mobil 1, Toyota, TRD – all of these guys and girls at Joe Gibbs Racing. I’m so proud of this team.”

How satisfying is it to pick up a win like this?

“It is super satisfying. The never give up attitude is with this team – we’ve been through a lot this year. We’ve had to overcome a lot, but we are a really strong race team. We are consistent each week and we will get more wins and hopefully go race for the championship come Phoenix.”

During that tenure, he also holds an average finishing position of 25.7.

Chicago Street Course | The Loop 121 Race Recap: In the most recent NASCAR Xfinity Series race at the Chicago Street Course, Joe Graf Jr. and the RSS Racing team were a part of history.

Graf was one of 38 starters in the inaugural The Loop 121 at the Chicago Street Course. Aboard his No. 38 Gtechniq EXOv5 Ford Mustang, he started 35th and quickly raced into the top 30.

Unfortunately, an early pit stop put him 33rd for a restart which was then thwarted by lightning and because of adverse weather conditions Saturday and into Sunday morning, the race was never restarted and was deemed concluded after just 25 laps leaving the driver and team trapped.

Sneaker Mania: Along with the adrenaline of the Motorsports competition, Joe Graf Jr. also has a vogue for hype sneakers. In his current collection, he owns and wears at least 90 limited edition sneakers – and his collection continues to grow monthly.

The current estimated value of his collection tops $100,000.

From the Pit Box: Industry veteran Steve Addington is Joe Graf Jr.’s crew chief.

He will be crew chief for his 280th NASCAR Xfinity Series race as crew chief on Saturday and his 12th from the track nestled in the Peach State.

In his previous 279 NASCAR Xfinity Series starts, he has collected 11 wins, 10 poles, 68 top-five and 118 top-10 finishes.

Hello From The Other Side: Graf Jr. has two teammates at RSS Racing.

Veteran Ryan Sieg will drive the No. 39 CMRroofing.com Ford Mustang and Xfinity Series rookie Kyle Sieg will make his return in the No. 28 Cedar Ridge Landscaping Ford Mustang.

Kyle Sieg is poised to make his 34th career Xfinity Series start and his fourth at Atlanta.

    Joe Graf Jr. Quoteboard:

On Atlanta Motor Speedway: “I am looking for some redemption for RSS Racing this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Honestly, because we had a better car than what we finished last weekend at Chicago and because we should have easily finished inside the top-15 or better in the spring at Atlanta if not for some contact with another competitor on the final restart.

“I liked Atlanta before the repave and I like it now too. Obviously, it’s two different styles of racing and the cars react differently from the spring race to the summer race because of the track temperatures.

“I learned a lot last July and hope to apply that to our No. 38 CoverSeal® Ford Mustang on Saturday night. We’ve been steady but as we approach the second half of the Xfinity Series season, we definitely want to make some improvements and be running consistently as close to the top-20 as possible and throw some top-10 finishes in there too.

“We are resilient and we will continue to fight, including Saturday night at Atlanta.”

On The 2023 Season: “We started the year off really strong between RSS Racing and Joe Gibbs Racing, but unfortunately we’ve been on a rollercoaster throughout the season.

“I know we just have to survive this stretch of unique races which includes a street course, a hybrid superspeedway, a flat track, a fast track and another road course. Hopefully in-between all the different types of tracks we’ll find a rhythm that will allow us to continue to accelerate in a positive direction.

“I just need to continue to stay focused, communicate with my team and utilize the knowledge that I’ve gained over the past three years to recover and have my best Xfinity Series season yet.”

On 2023 Season Outlook: “Through the first 16 races, we have definitely showcased speed, but we know we have to turn that speed into better performances.

“Chicago was a great accomplishment of that. We are at the point of the season where we need to press the attack if we are going to make the Xfinity Series Playoffs. We certainly have made gains over the last few weeks and we just need to keep going in the right direction.”

  • NASCAR Xfinity Series Debut on Deck for Greg Van Alst at Atlanta Motor Speedway

NASCAR Xfinity Series Debut on Deck for Greg Van Alst at Atlanta Motor Speedway

HAMPTON, Ga.: The wait is almost over.

The 2023 ARCA Menards Series Daytona race winner Greg Van Alst will make his highly awaited NASCAR Xfinity Series debut for Alpha Prime Racing in Saturday night’s Alsco Uniforms 250 at Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway.

The Anderson, Ind. native has dreamt of this moment ever since he was a child and now more than nearly three decades into his racing career – the most important start in his racing career is on deck this weekend at the Hampton, Ga. track.

“I cannot believe it’s almost here,” said Van Alst with a smile. “I literally have been counting down the days. I am so excited. I can’t even begin to tell you.

“While I have this overwhelming excitement, I know that when I climb aboard that car for qualifying on Saturday afternoon I have a job to do.

“And believe me, I plan to do my job well.”

Van Alst knows that his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut at a track that is now being classified as a hybrid superspeedway will present plenty of learning opportunities, but Van Alst, the former CRA | ARCA Late Model champion is poised to digest the learning curve this weekend but still mount his Alpha Prime Racing team a competitive finish.

“There isn’t one thought in my mind that says this is going to be easy,” continued Van Alst. “I know that. This series provides some of the most exhilarating racing in the sport and it is full of talented drivers and powerful teams.

“I am hoping that my years of racing – and having to do most of it as an owner and driver will earn me the respect of my competitors and we can go out and have a successful Xfinity Series debut at Atlanta

and build for our future together.”

Van Alst said he is aiming for a top-20 finish in his Xfinity Series debut and anything beyond that is a small victory for himself as a driver.

“I’ve never been thrown into a race with just qualifying and racing but that’s what is going to happen at Atlanta and that’s OK by me,” sounded Van Alst. “I know that my Alpha Prime Racing guys are bringing me a competitive car and believe me I plan to go out there and get us the best starting position possible and then let the dominoes fall for the race.

“I’d love a top-20 finish on Saturday night. Anything above that is a small victory knowing the competition we are facing and just how close the series is as a whole. I am hoping that some of my superspeedway success will transition in some capacity at Atlanta on Saturday, but we’ll just see how it happens.

“I’m looking forward to racing with my Alpha Prime Racing teammates Jeffrey Earnhardt and Ryan Ellis. It is going to be an emotional weekend for sure, but one of the most memorable days of my life. I can’t wait for Saturday.”

Van Alst has brought longtime marketing partner CB Fabricating with him as the primary partner on his No. 44 Chevrolet Camaro for the July 8 race.

Headquartered in Anderson, Ind., CB Fabricating offers a complete list of fabricating from design, laser cutting, CNC punching, forming, welding, powder coating and assembly.

Their 40,000-square-foot facility allows them to service the needs of many different industries. Everything from the Automotive, agricultural, aquatic, medical, transportation, electrical enclosures and much more.

CB Fabricating has been a backbone partner for Van Alst dating back to his ARCA | CRA championship in 2019, then his ARCA Menards Series tenure which relaunched in 2021 and continues on a part-time schedule this season.

With the recent passing of Bruce Van Alst (Greg’s father), racing at Atlanta will mean even more to me,” said CB Fabricating founder Chris Barkdull. “Bruce would tell me about taking Greg and his other son Matt to the Cup race at Atlanta when they were younger.

“It was one of their favorite tracks so when the opportunity to race there came up I thought it would be awesome for Bruce to watch Greg race there. Little did we know at that time how sick Bruce was.

“I can only say how blessed I have been as well as my company to be able to be a part of the racing community. I know we should not be prideful, but I think I will be for a moment. I’m looking forward to Atlanta this weekend.”

Van Alst says having CB Fabricating and Barkdull continue their relationship and expand to the NASCAR Xfinity Series means more to him than words could ever express.

“None of this would be possible without Chris,” added Van Alst. “He has been a partner within my racing team for many years now, but to have his support for one of the biggest races of my life is priceless. I wish my Dad could be around to watch in person, but I know he’ll be supporting us spiritually.

“I am proud to represent CB Fabricating in my NASCAR Xfinity Series debut and look forward to bringing home a strong result not only for Chris but the entire Alpha Prime Racing team.”

Additional details on the remainder of Van Alst’s racing schedule will be released in due course.

Since 2002, Van Alst has 36 ARCA Menards Series starts to his credit with a career-best finish of first (win) at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway (Feb. 2023). Overall, he has earned one win, three top-five and 17 top-10 finishes and holds an average series finish of 14.0. He finished a career-high fifth in the championship standings in 2022.

    • After a rain-shortened but triumphant weekend at NASCAR’s inaugural Chicago Street Race, Cole Custer and the No. 00 Haas Automation team are ready to keep the momentum rolling in Saturday’s Alsco Uniforms 250 Xfinity Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Custer scored his second victory of the 2023 season last weekend on the downtown streets of Chicago after rain and standing water forced NASCAR to call the race 30 laps before its scheduled 55-lap distance. Before the unprecedented call on Sunday to declare the race official before it reached its halfway point, Custer had already shown his dominance from the outset of the race on Saturday, leading all 25 laps run until the red flag flew for lightning. After winning the opening 15-lap stage, Custer had a commanding lead of more than two seconds over fellow Xfinity Series regular John Hunter Nemechek and looked to be well on his way to winning the 15-lap Stage 2. He became the third SHR driver to win an inaugural NASCAR Xfinity Series race since 2020. SHR’s Chase Briscoe won the inaugural Xfinity Series race on the road course at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in July 2020, and Aric Almirola won the first-ever Xfinity Series race at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway on June 10.
    • Despite a challenging start to the season, Custer has certainly found his stride. His two wins and counting have put him in a strong position for the 2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoffs, and he’s jumped to third in the driver standings from the 10th position he held prior to the April 1 race at Richmond (Va.) Raceway, now 44 points behind Nemechek, the regular-season championship leader. Custer also has now earned 10 top-10 finishes in a row, a streak that began with his fifth-place result at Richmond. With 10 races left before the playoffs begin Sept. 15 at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway, Custer is looking to close the points gap and take home not only more wins, but that regular-season championship trophy.
    • Saturday’s race will be Custer’s fifth in the Xfinity Series at Atlanta and second since the track was reconfigured in time for the 2022 season. He started eighth and finished 12th on the newly configured track in March, and his best of three outings on the old configuration was a runner-up finish from the pole position in February 2019, when he crossed the finish line .191 of a second behind winner Christopher Bell. Custer has six Atlanta starts outside of the Xfinity Series – five in the NASCAR Cup Series and one in the NASCAR Truck Series. Best of his Cup Series outings was a ninth-place finish last July, and his lone Truck Series outing in February 2016 resulted in a 17th-place finish from the sixth starting position.
    • Custer will be pulling double duty this weekend as he’ll also be behind the wheel of the No. 51 Jacob Companies Ford Mustang for Rick Ware Racing for Sunday’s Atlanta 400 Cup Series race.

    Riley Herbst Notes of Interest

    • While last weekend’s race on the Chicago street course didn’t end like Riley Herbst and the No. 98 Monster Energy team had hoped, they’re ready to show their resilience in Saturday’s Alsco Uniforms 250 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Herbst started 15th at Chicago and worked his way into the top-10 before he was forced to pit to repair damage sustained after a car spun in front of him. After working his way back toward the front, the No. 98 Monster Energy team opted to pit when the caution flag flew on lap 24. It put Herbst further back in the pack and, when the race was about to be restarted, lightning was reported in the area to bring out the red flag. The race never resumed due to rain and standing water, and when it was declared official on Sunday, Herbst was credited with a 24th-place finish.
    • Despite the unpredictablility that Atlanta’s 1.54-mile oval now brings with its racing style being more akin to a superspeedway, Herbst has proven his ability to persevere and survive at the track. In his three starts since the reconfiguration, he has not finished outside the top-10 with a best of fourth earned in the March race last year. His three starts on the old configuration netted a best result of sixth in March 2021.
    • In the most recent race at Atlanta this past March, Herbst looked to be having his strongest run there. He finished in the top-10 in the opening two stages to earn 15 stage points and, thanks to quick work by his No. 98 Monster Energy pit crew, he came off pit road first to start the final stage of the race. Herbst led 11 laps in the final stage and stayed in the top-five while trying to avoid mayhem and go for the win in the closing laps. Herbst held his position through multiple attempts at NASCAR overtime and took the checkered flag fifth. It was his second top-five and fifth top-10 through this year’s opening five races.

Cole Custer, Driver of the No. 00 Haas Automation Ford Mustang

You’re coming off your second win of the 2023 season and your 10th consecutive top-10. Does that give you a boost of confidence heading into this weekend at Atlanta?

“I mean, it definitely does. This whole summer stretch here, we just need to stay on a roll and stay on it. You want to try to collect as many playoff points as you can as the regular season winds down. The race wins and stage wins help with that, so we just have to keep moving in that direction. This next month, we just have to keep rolling and heading in the right direction.”

Atlanta is more akin to a superspeedway now. What are your expectations heading into the weekend after your 12th-place finish there earlier this year?

“It’s always going to be crazy, especially at the end of the race. People are going to try to push and shove their way to a win, just like at Talladega or Daytona. There’s also the factor of handling involved, so that can lead to some wrecks as the laps go down. Overall, this reconfiguration has put on some exciting racing, so hopefully it does the same this weekend and we can come out on top.”

Riley Herbst, Driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang

Atlanta has been kind to you since the reconfiguration was introduced last year. You haven’t finished worse than ninth in your three starts since 2022. How does the reconfiguration suit your driving style?

“The No. 98 Monster Energy team has done well at Atlanta since the reconfiguration. Even when we had a bad race, we’ve been able to recover for a top-10 finish with how they’ve changed the track. Honestly, I think the track changing to have more superspeedway-style racing has helped me as a driver. In the past few seasons, the No. 98 Ford Mustang has been fast at the superspeedway races, but we just maybe haven’t had enough Fords in the field to help us capitalize on it. We just have to have a little bit of luck and speed when we roll off on Saturday night. I’m excited to head back there.”

You’ve experienced two races with your new crew chief Davin Restivo. How is that going?

“I think we’re off to a good start. The key right now is working on our communication, but we’re getting there. He’s brought fast cars both weekends, and I honestly think we would’ve gotten a solid finish on the Chicago Street Course had the rain not come in. We were on a good pit strategy and that was all Davin’s call. We’re in a good place, and I’m excited to get to these upcoming tracks with him and the entire No. 98 crew.”

    • So far in the 2023 NCS season, Allmendinger has led one lap and earned three top 10 and six top-15 finishes.

“Our superspeedway program has been pretty good. There’s just a different way you race at Atlanta now with the aero package that we run. Track position is really critical; it’s really tight so it’s hard to maneuver around. It’s very important to stay up front and I think handling will be a key because it’ll be hot and the track will be really slick. I felt like we learned some stuff at the first race there this year so we can come back and be better for this race.” – AJ Allmendinger on Atlanta Motor Speedway

Justin Haley, No. 31 LeafFilter Gutter Protection Camaro ZL1

    • Justin Haley has made five NCS starts at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

    • After completing the 2023 Coca-Cola 600 and Alsco Uniforms 300, Haley now holds the record for the most NASCAR National Series miles completed in a single day by any driver in NASCAR history.

“We’re going into Atlanta with some confidence as a team after having an opportunity to go for a win on Sunday in Chicago. Atlanta has always been one of my favorites in both the Xfinity and the Cup Series. With it being a speedway track, it has been one we have adapted well to at Kaulig Racing. It’s such a fun and unique track with high speeds and shorter distance. I’m super excited to log some more laps in the Xfinity Series as well this weekend!” – Justin Haley on Atlanta Motor Speedway

    • Hemric secured his career-best finish at Atlanta Motor Speedway in the spring race earlier this year where he finished second.
    • Hemric currently sits ninth in the 2023 NXS standings and has earned one top five and eight top-10 finishes.

“The pre-race preparation for Atlanta is no different than how we prepared earlier this year. The place has continued to evolve, and the grip of the race track has continued to change. It’s going to be really important for myself, Daniel and Justin to work together this weekend, so hopefully we get hooked up and stay together.” – Chandler Smith on Atlanta Motor Speedway

Mason Massey to Honor Fallen Mentor at Atlanta Motor Speedway

Mason Massey is excited to return to his home track, Atlanta Motor Speedway, for Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race running the Alsco Uniforms 250. He is returning to the site of his best career NASCAR finish, a 6th place finish in the Spring 2022 Xfinity Series race, and honoring his former mentor Beau Slocumb.

Slocumb was an up and coming racer that started his career on the ¼ mile bullring at Atlanta Motor Speedway and progressed up to the ARCA Racing Series. While chasing his dreams, Beau also mentored young drivers in Bandolero and Legend car racing. Slocumb had an impressive resume’ that led him to 131 feature wins as a racecar driver before he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2009. After fighting the disease for two years, he lost his life at the young age of 26, coincidentally the same age of Massey as he continues to chase his dreams of racing in NASCAR’s highest levels as a full time driver.

Massey will have his number 08 Chevrolet Camaro designed to match Slocumb’s popular bright orange and camouflage look that he raced for years around the Southeast. “It’s really cool to be able to honor Beau at both of our home track. He was a heck of a racecar driver and definitely someone that I always looked up to. I am looking forward to representing Beau Saturday night at Atlanta in the 08 orange and camouflage hot rod, “ said Massey

Buster Slocumb, father of Beau added, “Our family is excited to see Beau’s old paint scheme represented on Mason’s car this weekend in Atlanta. Beau loved racing Thursday Thunder at Atlanta and mentoring many kids over the years, including Mason. We are honored that his life and racing career are still impacting the younger generation today. Thank you to Bryan Hill, Joey Clanton, Tony Gresham and the Massey family for making this happen. Thank you especially to Mason for honoring Beau in this way.”

Massey will be driving the #08 Chevrolet Camaro for SS Greenlight Racing with support from Special Olympics Georgia, John Thornton Chevrolet, A-Z Companies, Live Oak Plantation, Bryan Hill, Joey Clanton Motorsports, and HUMBL.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series race will be at Atlanta Motor Speedway this Saturday, July 8th at 8PM EST. Live coverage of the Alsco Uniforms 250 will be broadcasted on the USA Network, PRN and Sirius XM. In 2008 Burton began his professional racing career at 16 in what was known as the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at South Boston Speedway. Close to his hometown of Halifax, Virginia, Burton continued to progress in competition at South Boston Speedway to drive in the Late Model Series, where he earned Rookie of the Year honors. The following year he competed in his first full season and earned his first win at Texas Motor Speedway as well as seven pole awards, five top-five finishes and 11 top-10 finishes. Burton recorded only two starts in the NASCAR Xfinity Series before making his NASCAR Cup Series debut in 2015 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. He went on to make 33 NASCAR Cup Series starts and 109 NASCAR Xfinity Series starts between 2013 and 2022, with his first Xfinity win coming in the spring race at Talladega in 2021. The year 2023 marks Burton’s third full season in the NASCAR Xfinity Series as he competes for the championship with Jordan Anderson Racing Bommarito AutoSport. Driver Quotes

“With Atlanta racing more like a superspeedway now, it makes it fun and exciting, but also pretty challenging. I am excited to have Accelerate back on the No. 1 Chevy and I am confident that we can put ourselves in a position this weekend to contend for a good finish. The Chicago Street Course was fun but I am looking forward to getting back to circle-track racing.” – Sam Mayer

“Atlanta has definitely been a unique challenge since the repave, but thankfully JR Motorsports has always had an extremely strong superspeedway program, so I know that we will be strong when we get to the track Saturday morning. Anything can happen, but if we can keep our Hellmann’s Chevrolet clean all night long and avoid any potential trouble, I feel like we will have a great shot to fight for the win. I know everyone on this No. 7 team is ready to go. We just need to execute the same way we have all season and we will be right where we want to be at the end.” – Justin Allgaier

“Atlanta races like a restrictor-plate track, and we have been good there but haven’t gotten the victory we want. We were pretty good here in the spring, finishing seventh, but we’re looking for more. It’s time for us to get a victory, and we’ve been close, but the Playoffs are coming soon. I’m looking forward to having Jarrett back on the car as we’ve had really good finishes with them this year.” – Josh Berry

“It’s always great to head back to my home track in Atlanta. We only have a couple of races on this new pavement and style of racing, but it’s been exciting every time. Hopefully we can keep the nose clean on our Menards/Atlas Roofing Chevrolet and be in contention to battle for the win under the lights Saturday night.” – Brandon Jones

“It’s been a few years since I’ve raced at NHMS, and I’m so ready to get back there in front of my home crowd,” said Grala. “It’s always nice to see the New England race fans and how passionate they are about our sport in addition to having more of my friends and family at the track than anywhere else. The track is just over an hour from where I grew up in Massachusetts, so that makes it by far the closest track to home for me. I’m definitely going to make the most of my trip home and hopefully cap it off by finishing up front on Saturday.”

At the young age of four, Grala strapped in to a go-kart for the first time at the former F1 Boston in Massachusetts, unknowingly on his way to multiple karting championships as he continued to grow his skills behind the wheel. By the age of nine, Grala had started his journey to and from short tracks throughout the east coast, grabbing wins and championships in Bandoleros and Legend Cars, which catapulted the young talent to stock car racing at the age of 14.

Grala’s career at the grassroots level of stock car racing provided him the platform to gain experience, make a name for himself and move up the ranks from NASCAR’s local and regional levels to the NXS today. Throughout those groundbreaking years, Grala set records that still stand today including his first NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series win. At 18 years, one month and 26 days old, Grala became the youngest winner at Daytona International Speedway in NASCAR’s national series history.

In 2023, the 24-year-old Grala became Sam Hunt Racing’s first full-time driver in the organization’s history, piloting the No. 26 entry for all 33 races on the NXS schedule. The 2023 season also marks Grala’s first full-time season in the series. Out of 15 races, Grala has collected one top-five finish and two top-10 finishes, and he’s on the hunt for his first career NXS win and a playoff berth.
