Moffitt, 30, arrives on the scene at AM Racing after a stint at Our Motorsports.

In his previous six efforts, he has delivered one top-five, two top-10s and four top-20 finishes. His track-best result occurred during the 2020 spring edition of the Unhinged 300 when Moffitt steered to a fifth-place finish after starting 20th for Our Motorsports.

In addition to Xfinity, Moffitt also has three NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series starts at Talladega.

Brett Moffitt Xfinity Series Speedway Stats: At NASCAR Xfinity Series tracks classified as a speedway 2.0-mile or larger in length, Moffitt has made 19 starts throughout his career earning two top-five and six top-10 finishes. He also holds an average finishing position of 16.4.

In addition to 90 Xfinity Series starts, he has achieved 45 NASCAR Cup Series and 92 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series starts to his credit.

Martinsville (Va.) Speedway | Call811.com 250 Race Recap: In the most recent NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, Brett Moffitt and the AM Racing team tackled the legendary Virginia short track for the first of two trips this season.

Dodging Mother Nature during practice and qualifying on Friday, Moffitt was able to establish the 16th fastest lap during NASCAR Xfinity Series qualifying on Friday afternoon.

Starting mid-pack, Moffitt began crawling through the field until he was spun out in Turn 4 and lost a lap in the process. Just before the end of Stage 2, Moffitt was able to earn his lost lap back and utilize the entirety of Stage 3 to climb his No. 25 AM Technical Solutions Ford Mustang through the field.

Mounting some of the quickest lap times in the field, Moffitt returned to the top-10 in the closing laps of the race to finish ninth and mount his third top-10 finish of the 2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series season.

In eight races this season, Moffit has delivered three top-10s, four top-15s and an average finish of 18.0.

He will be crew chief for his 107th NASCAR Xfinity Series race on Saturday and his seventh race at Talladega Superspeedway.

    Brett Moffitt Quoteboard:

On Talladega Superspeedway: “Talladega is definitely a crapshoot, but it is a perfect opportunity for our AM Racing team to pick up some stage points and put ourselves in a position to win on Saturday afternoon.

“I know we did not have the fastest car in qualifying at Daytona, but our No. 25 AM Technical Solutions Ford Mustang was handling very well during the race and we were able to spend a lot of time inside the top five before we ran into an issue late in the race.

“We have some momentum on our side right now given how well we were able to turn around our night at Martinsville last weekend. I’d love nothing more than to leave Talladega with another strong finish and earning as many points as we possibly can.”

On 2023 Season Outlook: “There has been so much effort put into the 2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series season and honestly, I am so excited about it. I cannot thank everyone on the AM Racing team enough for the opportunity and for taking a chance on me to lead them in the inaugural year.

“I feel like in the first three months or so we have definitely proved ourselves in the series, but we realize there is more work to be done.

“I believe we will exceed everyone’s expectations and not only will we challenge for race wins, but we will earn them and contend for the 2023 Xfinity Series championship.”

    Talladega NASCAR Xfinity Series Advance
    NASCAR Xfinity Series Overview

    • Event: Ag-Pro 300 (Round 9 of 33)
    • Date: Saturday, April 22
    • Location: Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway
    • Layout: 2.66-mile oval
    • Time/TV/Radio: 4 p.m. EDT on FS1/MRN/SiriusXM NASCAR Radio

    Cole Custer Notes of Interest

    • Cole Custer seems to be hitting his stride. His streak of good runs couldn’t have come at a better time as the NASCAR Xfinity Series heads to the behemoth 2.66-mile oval of Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway for Saturday’s Ag-Pro 300. Last Saturday at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, Custer earned his second pole of the 2023 season and led the opening laps of the race. He finished third in the both of the opening two stages to earn 16 bonus points, and ultimately finished third when the checkered flag flew. This strong run comes after a top-five finish on April 1 at Richmond (Va.) Raceway, his first of two consecutive top-fives. His race finishes, combined with the bonus points he’s accumulated, have elevated the No. 00 Haas Automation driver to eighth in the driver standings, up four spots from the 12th position he occupied prior to Richmond.
    • By virtue of his third-place finish at Martinsville, Custer earned one of four spots in this weekend’s third round of the annual Xfinity Dash 4 Cash program at Talladega, where he will look to finish ahead of fellow Xfinity Series regulars John Hunter Nemechek, Sammy Smith and Josh Berry to win the $100,000 Dash 4 Cash prize. This year’s program started April 1 at Richmond, continued last weekend at Martinsville, and will conclude April 29 at Dover (Del.) Motor Speedway. Custer previously won the $100,000 Dash 4 Cash check after his April 2019 victory at Richmond.
    • Saturday’s Ag-Pro 300 will mark Custer’s fourth career Xfinity Series start at Talladega. In his three prior starts, he earned a best finish of ninth in April 2018. In this year’s previous two superspeedway-style races, Custer qualified third and posted a ninth-place finish in February’s season opener at Talladega’s sister track, Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, and a 12th-place finish last month at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
    • In addition to his three prior Xfinity Series starts at Talladega, Custer has seven starts outside the series – six in the NASCAR Cup Series with a best finish of 10th in April 2021, and one in the NASCAR Truck Series in October 2016, when he started on the pole and led two laps before a midrace accident ended his day. He’s led 10 laps in his six Cup Series starts at the track.

    Riley Herbst Notes of Interest

    • Riley Herbst hopes to turn his luck from bad to good once again as he heads into one of the most unpredictable races of the season, Saturday’s Ag-Pro 300 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. Herbst saw a potential top-five run come to an early end when an accident not of his doing relegated him to a 30th-place finish last Saturday night at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway. Prior to the race-ending incident 28 laps from the finish, his first DNF (did not finish) of the season, the No. 98 Monster Energy driver ran consistently at the front of the field and earned a total of nine bonus points with his finishes fifth and eighth in the opening two stages, respectively. He arrives at Talladega fourth in the driver standings, 38 points behind leader John Hunter Nemechek.
    • Despite last weekend’s result at Martinsville, Herbst is still off to his best career start to a season. He reeled off six consecutive top-10 finishes in the opening six races and to date has led 38 laps, more than three times as many as he led all of last season (12). In this year’s previous two superspeedway-style races, Herbst posted a sixth-place finish in February’s season opener at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway after running in the top-three all day, and a fifth-place finish last month at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
    • Saturday’s race at Talladega will mark Herbst’s seventh career Xfinity Series start at the track. He earned a best finish of fourth in the April 2021 race, and returned that October to lead his first laps at the track, 26 in total, before an accident ended his bid six laps from the finish. Herbst has an additional five Talladega starts outside the Xfinity Series – four in the ARCA Menards Series and one in the NASCAR Truck Series. He drove to a runner-up finish in the April 2019 ARCA race, then followed that up with a fourth-place finish after 36 laps led in his most recent Talladega ARCA outing in April 2020.
    • In addition to the Xfinity Series race this weekend, Herbst will pull double duty and make his second career Cup Series start in Sunday’s GEICO 500 in the No. 15 Mechanix Wear / Monster Energy Ford Mustang. His Cup Series debut in the No. 15 Ford Mustang during February’s 65th running of the Daytona 500 resulted in a 10th-place finish. He navigated his way around multiple accidents en route to becoming only the second driver in NASCAR history to record a top-10 in his Cup Series debut in the Daytona 500, joining Terry Ryan, who made his debut in the 1976 edition of The Great American Race and finished sixth.

Cole Custer, Driver of the No. 00 Haas Automation Ford Mustang

Not only are you coming into Talladega off a strong, top-three finish, you also have a chance to win the $100,000 Dash4Cash prize. How excited are you to be a part of the program again after winning it during your last fulltime Xfinity Series season?

“The Dash 4 Cash is one of the coolest things that the Xfinity Series does. They give the drivers and teams an opportunity to race for some big money and kind of leave it all out there and take some risks for it. You know it’s going to be a crazy one at Talladega, in general, and now you add this factor in. I think some guys are going to do some crazy stuff to go for not only the win, but the money, so you better bring yous ‘A’ game this Saturday. Hopefully, we can be the ones who come out on top in the end.”

Superspeedway racing is a game requiring a good bit of luck. How do you approach this race, which is so unpredictable?

“Honestly, superspeedway racing is always challenging. There are things that you can control in the race, like having a fast car and being able to make those aggressive moves that you need to. You also need to know how well you can work the draft. That’s something that we focused on heading into this race. I feel like we were solid at Daytona, but it’s just a matter of controlling the race a little better. You always have that luck factor in these races and, in the end, you just hope it’s your lucky day.”

Riley Herbst, Driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang

After two weeks of bad luck, you’re heading into a race that seems to be all about luck. How do you prepare for Talladega?

“You have to expect the unexpected and plan to survive. We’ve been fast at superspeedway races this year, so we’re working on perfecting that package. These races tend to come down to who will work with you to get up front. In the past, we’ve struggled because there haven’t been many Fords in the field, but adding Cole Custer to the team this year will really help. We still don’t have as many guys as the other manufacturers, but this is also where you have to make friends. I feel like we’ve done well with that in the past, so hopefully we’ll see that again this weekend and end up in victory lane.”

Not only are you running the Xfinity Series race, you’ll also get seat time in the No. 15 Mechanix Wear/Monster Energy Ford Mustang in Sunday’s Cup Series race. What does getting extra seat time in any series mean to you as a driver?

“Any seat time is a learning experience at these tracks. I’m excited to get another opportunity behind the wheel of the No. 15 Ford Mustang on Sunday. I learned so much in the Daytona 500, so Talladega is going to be all about expanding on that knowledge. Just like Daytona, though, Talladega is unpredictable. You can only control so much. Hopefully, we can stay out of trouble and have another solid run similar to Daytona. It’s every racer’s dream to get an opportunity in a NASCAR Cup Series car, and I’m grateful to get the opportunity to do just that.”

    • In 40 combined superspeedway starts at Daytona and Talladega, Allgaier has amassed 11 top fives and 18 top 10s. The Illinois native finished third at Daytona earlier this season.
    • This weekend at Talladega, Allgaier will be sporting the colors of Walmart’s Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign.

    Driver Quotes

“I am super excited to get back to Talladega and to have a brand new partner on the No. 1 Chevrolet with First Bank of Alabama. Last time we raced here we came so close and ended up just one spot short, but I have a lot of faith in my team to bring us a fast racecar and hopefully end up one spot better this time around. It would be great to celebrate in Victory Lane with this First Bank of Alabama group.” – Sam Mayer

“Anything can happen at Talladega. One minute you can be out front, and the next you are shuffled to the back of the pack. It’s definitely a place where you need to be on your toes at all times. Hopefully we can avoid any potential trouble out there and keep our Walmart Fight Hunger. Spark Change. Chevrolet clean all race long. We had a phenomenal speedway car earlier this season at Daytona and I know that Jim (Pohlman, crew chief) and all the guys on this No. 7 team will give me a car just as strong this weekend.” – Justin Allgaier

“We’ve been on a good run these past seven races, and Talladega is a place where you can finish well if you stay out of trouble. Our Tire Pros Chevrolet has certainly been last all season, and JR Motorsports builds really fast speedway cars. It’s another chance to earn the Dash 4 Cash bonus, and Taylor (Moyer) and our team are going to do whatever we can to win the race and the $100,000.” – Josh Berry

“Heading to Talladega this weekend and really anything can happen at any point. JR Motorsports always has fast speedway cars and this entire Menards/Turtle Wax team has been working hard to ensure that is true again this weekend. We had a great run last weekend and hopefully we can stay out of the mess this weekend and come out with another strong finish.” – Brandon Jones

RAISING CANE’S JOINS ALPHA PRIME RACING AND RYAN ELLIS FOR TALLADEGA

Ryan Ellis and Alpha Prime Racing are proud to announce that Raising Cane’s will debut as the primary sponsor of the No. 43 Chevrolet Camaro in the Ag-Pro 300 at Talladega Superspeedway on Saturday, April 22nd.

This will mark the Raising Cane’s first sponsorship in NASCAR, as they team up with Ellis and Alpha Prime Racing to take on the 2.6-mile tri-oval located in Lincoln, Alabama. Raising Cane’s has been on a “fast track” to growth, recently opening its 700th Restaurant and plans to open 100 Restaurants across several key markets in 2023.

“Honestly, it’s pretty surreal talking about this,” said Ryan Ellis, driver of the No.43 Raising Cane’s No.43 Chevy Camaro. “I’ve been a huge fan of Raising Cane’s since I first tried it a long time ago. They offer craveable chicken finger meals, and I’ve always been impressed by their speed and service. I listened to Todd Graves’ (Founder and CEO of Raising Cane’s) podcast with Theo Von, and it was so cool hearing his story and how Cane’s got its start. I know that NASCAR fans are customers of Raising Cane’s, and I hope that their love of the brand will continue to grow with Raising Cane’s entry into the sport.”

Raising Cane’s has ONE LOVE® – craveable chicken finger meals – which includes the iconic “Cane’s Sauce” – named the #1 sauce in the quick-service industry. They serve a focused menu of marinated, hand-battered, and cooked-to-order chicken fingers, Texas Toast, crinkle-cut fries, coleslaw, sweet tea, and fresh-squeezed lemonade.

Cane’s commitment to this concept will not allow them to compromise quality, cut corners or clutter their menu with new products that do not fit core menu offerings.

Their company values are rooted in appreciation – appreciation for their Crewmembers and for the Communities they serve. Raising Cane’s strives to be active members of their communities, and they’re always looking for ways to give back and lend a helping hand to those in need.

“Raising Cane’s is excited to make its NASCAR debut by sponsoring Ryan and the Alpha Prime Race Racing team at Talladega this season,” said Raising Cane’s Founder and CEO Todd Graves. “We look forward to cheering Ryan on and seeing the Raising Cane’s ONE LOVE #43 racecar compete in front of thousands of fans at the iconic Talladega Superspeedway.”

David Schildhouse, Vice President of Alpha Prime Racing, echoed the enthusiasm for the partnership stating, “Raising Cane’s is a beloved brand, and it is so exciting to see them on Ryan’s racecar. Lunch at Raising Cane’s was a weekly tradition for me when I lived in Scottsdale and Las Vegas. We’re going to be hungry at Talladega, both for a victory and for some delicious Raising Cane’s chicken fingers.”

“This is such a great opportunity to partner with First Bank of Alabama this weekend,” Mayer said. “They’ve had such a positive impact on the Talladega community, and I’m pumped to have a local business aboard our No. 1 Chevrolet Camaro. We came so close to winning here last year and I know we’ve got a good chance of getting them in the winner’s circle on Saturday.”

In addition to its partnership with JRM, FBAL will continue to work alongside Talladega as a presenting sponsor of Kids Day, a program which provides over 400 students the opportunity to attend a race and experience a free, curriculum-enriched educational opportunity focused on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

“We have a strong relationship with Talladega Superspeedway and partnering with JR Motorsports seemed like a natural fit,” said Chad Jones, president and CEO of First Bank of Alabama. “With the NASCAR history behind JR Motorsports and the history of our bank, seeing Sam Mayer’s No. 1 on the track allows us to reach more fans. It will be very productive for Kids Day at the track. Our company remains committed to the communities we serve and being a part of the racing community for years to come.”

    NOCO 400

AJ Allmendinger, No. 16 Action Industries Camaro ZL1

    • AJ Allmendinger qualified 14th for the NOCO 400 at Martinsville Speedway.
    • Allmendinger fought an extremely loose-handling No. 16 Action Industries Chevy throughout the opening stage but was able to finish stage one in 16th place.
    • During the second stage, Allmendinger’s No. 16 Chevy began building freer as the stage went on but gained three spots to finish the second stage in 15th place.
    • Starting the final stage in 16th, Allmendinger continued to battle a loose-handling Chevrolet, as the right rear faded. During a green-flag pit stop, Allmendinger sped on pit road and was forced to serve a pass-through penalty. He was unable to get back on the lead lap and went on to finish 27th.

“I thought we’d be ok for a while there running about 15th. We fired off so free and the rears just went away fast. We were able to hang onto it until I sped on pit road. Unfortunately, we just could never get back on the lead lap to get our track position back.” – AJ Allmendinger

Justin Haley, No. 31 LeafFilter Gutter Protection Camaro ZL1

    • Justin Haley qualified 26th for the NOCO 400 at Martinsville Speedway.
    • Throughout the opening stage, Haley lacked rear drive and fought a loose-handling No. 31 LeafFilter Chevy. He was able to gain one position and finished stage one in 25th.
    • Fighting freer and freer during the second stage, Haley pit under caution for adjustments. Following the adjustment, Haley’s No. 31 Chevrolet began coming to him, and he finished the stage in 18th.
    • Haley ran in the top 20 at the beginning of the final stage, but lost rear drive and fell down a lap to leader with 112 laps to go. Unable to wave around to get back on the lead lap, Haley went on to finish 28th.

“It was a tough race, and physically challenging, just as it always is at Martinsville. We just fought free all day and lost rear grip in our No. 31 LeafFilter Gutter Protection Chevrolet. Our rear tires faded quickly, because we were so mechanically free. We were never able to take the wave around to get back on the lead lap, so unfortunately, we were just kind of stuck not able to get our track position back.” – Justin Haley

    Call811.com Before You Dig. 250

Daniel Hemric, No. 11 AG1 Chevrolet

    • Daniel Hemric qualified 13th for the Call811.com Before You Dig. 250 at Martinsville Speedway.
    • Hemric showed speed throughout the opening stage before the No. 11 AG1 Chevy began handling tight later in the run. He went on to finish stage one in seventh place.
    • As a result of a fast pit stop and solid strategy, Hemric was in position to earn stage points. Despite receiving some left front nose damage later in the run, the team elected not to make repairs, and Hemric stayed out to finish the stage in fifth.
    • In the final stage, Hemric continued to show speed and went on to finish the race in seventh place.

“It was a solid day for us, and we needed that after not having the best showing the last couple weeks as a race team. It was fun today to move forward and drive towards the front of the field. I wish we could have ended on a long green flag run there, just got used up there on the last few restarts and made a couple bad choices on my end on lane selections. That’s the way it goes and we are not going to be upset about it. We will take the strengths from what we learned here and carry on to Talladega.” – Daniel Hemric

Derek Kraus, No. 10 International Order of T. Roosevelt Chevrolet

    • Derek Kraus qualified 12th for the Call811.com Before you Dig. 250 at Martinsville Speedway.
    • In the opening stage of the race, Kraus told crew chief, Alex Yontz, he lacked drive off, making it hard to pass and run the bottom. Kraus was happy with the stability he had in his No. 10 Chevy when entering the corner and felt confident with how he was running. He finished 13th in stage one.
    • After a pit stop during the stage break for an air pressure adjustment, Kraus restarted 12th. Kraus was happy with the adjustment Yontz made to help with drive off and went on to finish 10th in stage two.
    • Working well with his spotter on timing his passes and protecting the bottom line on the track, Kraus went on to finish eighth, earning his second top-10 finish in his second NXS start.

“We started off pretty good, but as the rubber built up, we started to get tight. As the restarts got going, I started to get used to it and how everything goes on these restarts. Throughout the race, Alex (Yontz) made good adjustments to make our No. 10 Chevy better, and we were able to make our way up through the field. The guys made a good pit call there at the end to put tires on, and I felt like we really came alive. There were a couple restarts that went our way, and were were able to end up eighth. I can’t thank Matt (Kaulig), Chris (Rice), and everyone at Kaulig Racing for all their hard work.” – Derek Kraus

Chandler Smith, No. 16 Quick Tie Products Chevrolet

    • Chandler Smith qualified 11th for the Call811.com Before You Dig. 250 at Martinsville Speedway.
    • Smith moved into the top 10 quickly but lacked left front grip and drive off in his No. 16 Quick Tie Chevy. Smith finished stage one in eighth place, and the team brought him down pit road to make a handling adjustment.
    • Smith started the second stage in eighth. As the stage went on, Smith radioed to crew chief, Bruce Schlicker, that his No. 16 Chevrolet was tight rolling into the corner and still lacked drive off. Smith was able to find speed by changing up the line he was running near the end of the stage, finishing stage two in ninth place.
    • Restarting stage three in eighth, Smith’s handling issues continued until a late-race adjustment would free the No. 16 Chevy up and help him in the middle of the corners. Smith went on to finish 10th.

“We had a solid No. 16 Quick Tie Products Chevy Camaro today. We maintained top 10 all day, staying between sixth and 10th. Didn’t really go anywhere other than that. I’m really happy with the consistency our No. 16 crew keeps showing each week. I can’t thank these guys enough.” – Chandler Smith

    Sound Bites:

“We just needed a little bit more. I felt like we could turn the center better, but everyone else had a better drive off. My No. 00 Haas Automation Ford Mustang had really good speed all day. Man, it’s just frustrating to get third here. You want that grandfather clock so bad. It’s tough. I think we have a good package to bring back here later this year though. We just need to keep working on it. I feel like we’re starting to hit our stride, and I’m excited for the next few races.” – Cole Custer, driver of the No. 00 Haas Automation Ford Mustang

“That’s just racing at Martinsville. We were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I hate it for the No. 98 Monster Energy team. We had a good run going, and it just went away like that. Hopefully, we can put this bad luck behind us and get back on track at Talladega.” – Riley Herbst, driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang

    TOYOTA QUOTES

JOHN HUNTER NEMECHEK, No. 20 Pye Barker Toyota GR Supra, Joe Gibbs Racing

    Finishing Position: 1st

    How good was this car?

“It was amazing. This car wasn’t very good in practice yesterday – I thought we were like a 10th-to-12th place car. I’ll tell you what – everyone went to work on this 20 team for qualifying and this race today. So huge shoutout to the guys on this 20 team. Thankful for the opportunity from Joe Gibbs Racing and TRD, Coy (Gibbs), wish he was here with us. Thank you to Pye Barker Fire & Safety – they actually carry Pye Barker fire extinguishers here in Martinsville. It was fitting – after we caught on fire, they put it out. This car was as fast as Xfinity 10G today – dominate, that’s all I can say.”

What can you say about the battles with your teammate, Sammy Smith today?

“It was good hard short track racing. We didn’t wreck each other and we put on a show. I’m thankful for Sammy (Smith). Happy to be racing with him. We race each other hard but we race each other clean. Just happy to get this thing to victory lane today. I’m super pumped.”

What are you going to do with that Dash 4 Cash money?

“Guys, what do you say? I think we should get some clocks with that Dash 4 Cash money.”

SAMMY SMITH, No. 18 Pilot Flying J Toyota GR Supra, Joe Gibbs Racing

    Finishing Position: 2nd

How do you assess the racing tonight?

“I think it was really good. I tried to race John Hunter (Nemechek) with a lot of respect to try to make sure one of us got the win, but at the end, I think the 00 (Cole Custer) was kind of beating my bumper off, so I thought it was fair to move him back. It was good tonight for us. Just thank you to Pilot Flying J, Toyota, TMC, Allstate Peterbuilt Group, Golden Harvest – everybody that helps. We will get it done next week.”
