    TOYOTA QUOTES

JOHN HUNTER NEMECHEK, No. 20 Mobil 1 Toyota GR Supra, Joe Gibbs Racing

    Finishing Position: 6th

How was your race overall and what did you struggle with after showing dominance early in the race?

“Probably one of the fastest cars. Just didn’t execute. It’s frustrating, but to come home sixth after a loose wheel, going to the back and driving back up through. Then pitting and going to the back. Just shows the speed and we’ll have to go to Phoenix and put it on them.”

How strong was the car early and did the team make it better for the final green flag run?

“I definitely think we made it even better there at the end. Good notebook race for when we come back here in the fall when it’s a Playoff race so that will be important.”

SAMMY SMITH, No. 18 Pilot Flying J Toyota GR Supra, Joe Gibbs Racing

    Finishing Position: 17th

How was your race car during the race?

“We got better as we went, but we struggled early and still struggled compared to a lot of cars, but we got better and that’s all that matters. We’ll come back for the Playoff race in the fall. We just have to get better and we’ll go get them in Phoenix.”

“I am so happy to have Brand South Africa on board my Macc Door Systems Chevrolet,” says Brennan Poole, No. 6 JDM Driver. “I know they had a successful campaign with the 6-car last year and I hope to bring them that same success on and off the race track!”

    About Brand South Africa

Brand South Africa was established in August 2002 to help create a positive and compelling brand image for South Africa. At that time, the world was unsure about what to think of South Africa, with many different messages being sent out by various sources. This did very little to build the country’s brand and it was evident that to attract tourism and investment there was a need to coordinate marketing initiatives to make them more effective. This led to the creation of Brand South Africa, whose main objective is the marketing of South Africa through the Brand South Africa campaign. There are many benefits to having a consolidated brand image, with the most important being that a consistent Brand South Africa message creates strategic advantages in terms of trade and tourism for the country in an increasingly competitive marketplace.

    JD Motorsports

Team Owner, Johnny Davis, first began fielding the No. 4 car in what is now the Xfinity Series in 1983 with Joe Henry Thurman as the driver. From 1983-1985, Davis and Thurman competed in 41 races and put the JD Motorsports name on the map. Although JDM has seen a sharp rise in on-track performance in the past few years, success is nothing new to this team. Years of good drivers and excellent runs have paved the way for what JDM is today. www.teamjdmotorsports.com

    Cole Custer Notes of Interest

    • After a heart-breaking weekend at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California, Cole Custer is ready to focus on parking his No. 00 Haas Automation Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) in victory lane after this Saturday’s Alsco Uniforms 300 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Last weekend on the 2-mile Fontana oval, the 25-year-old driver from Ladera Ranch, California, led 46 laps and won the initial two stages before a cut right-front tire stole his chances of earning back-to-back wins at his home track. He ultimately finished 27th, one lap down.

    • While last weekend didn’t go as planned for Custer and the No. 00 team, he’s looking forward to heading to a style of track that has been one of his biggest strengths over the years – intermediate tracks. During his most recent fulltime Xfinity Series campaigns in 2017, 2018 and 2019, Custer scored six of his nine race wins on intermediate tracks – Nov. 18, 2017 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Nov. 3, 2018 at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, June 29, 2019 at Chicagoland Speedway, July 12, 2019 at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Aug. 31, 2019 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway, and Oct. 5, 2019 at Dover (Del.) Motor Speedway.

    • The Alsco Uniforms 300 will be Custer’s sixth Xfinity Series start at Las Vegas and his 14th overall. He has seven NASCAR Cup Series starts at the track and one NASCAR Truck Series start. In his five previous Xfinity Series starts at the track, he’s never finished outside the top-11 at Las Vegas in an Xfinity Series car, and he qualified on the pole at each of his last three Xfinity Series visits to Las Vegas – September 2018, and the March and September races in 2019 – all of which resulted in top-10 finishes. His best finish at Las Vegas is third, earned in September 2018.

    • In Custer’s lone career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series outing at Las Vegas, he started and finished third in the October 2016 race, driving the No. 00 entry for JR Motorsports.

    Riley Herbst Notes of Interest

    • Last weekend marked his teammate’s home race, and this Saturday’s Alsco Uniforms 300 NASCAR Xfinity Series race takes place in Riley Herbst’s hometown. The 24-year-old, grew up in the Entertainment Capital of the World, and the family name is well known in Las Vegas motorsports circles. His grandfather Jerry, uncles Tim and Ed, and father Troy are all Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame inductees as championship-winning off-road racers. Now, the youngest Herbst continues his quest to keep the family’s motorsports legacy alive in the NASCAR world.

    • Saturday’s race will mark Herbst’s eighth career Xfinity Series start at Las Vegas. The Monster Energy driver has a pair of top-10s in his seven previous starts at the 1.5-mile oval, both of which were ninth-place runs in September 2019 and February 2020. In his most recent Las Vegas outings in 2022, he finished 14th in March and 18th in September.

    • With two races complete this season, Herbst is already on a roll. He picked up right where he left off in 2022 with a pair of top-10 finishes at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway and Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California. After running in the top-three for a majority of the race two weekends ago at Daytona, Herbst perserved and avoided mayhem to finish sixth in the season-opening event. When the series rolled into California last weekend, he used strategy and speed to run in the top-10 for most of the day before ultimately finishing seventh. He hopes to build on that momentum in his hometown this weekend.

    • As Herbst seeks victory lane at Las Vegas, his No. 98 team at Stewart-Haas Racing already knows the way. With Chase Briscoe behind the wheel, the No. 98 team swept both races in 2020. Briscoe started second, led a race-high 89 laps, and beat runner-up Austin Cindric by 2.874 seconds in the February race. He then backed up that victory in September by starting on the pole, leading a race-high 164 laps, and beating runner-up Noah Gragson by 1.370 seconds.

Cole Custer, Driver of the No. 00 Haas Automation Ford Mustang

You were on a roll last weekend at Fontana, leading laps and winning the opening two stages before a cut right-front tire ruined your chance for the win. How do you recover from a race like that and bounce back?

“It’s tough, for sure. Our Ford Mustang was super fast and it was a car capable of winning. I think from Fontana, it gives us a lot of confidence that we can go out there and contend for the win in these races. It’s frustrating to get a finish like that, but we have all the tools to make it happen and get to victory lane. Now, we just need everything to fall into place.”

You’re heading to Las Vegas, where you’ve had some solid runs in the past. What’s the expectation heading into this weekend?

“Going into Vegas this weekend, it’s been a solid track for us. It’s been a place that we’ve wanted to improve at from the past with the Xfinity Series program. We’ve really worked on that this season by looking at old notes, working in the Ford simulator, and other forms of preparation. We’re hoping to have a good weekend there. The team has some good ideas on how to improve at Vegas, so we’ll try to do just that.”

Riley Herbst, Driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang

It’s time to head back to your hometown. What’s the feeling as you get ready to race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, where luck hasn’t always been on your side?

“Anytime you head home, it’s exciting. We haven’t always had the best of luck in the No. 98 Ford Mustang at Las Vegas, but in 2022 we were able to persevere through some difficult situations to score decent finishes. I think we’ve learned a lot since then though. We’ve grown as a team, and I’ve grown as a driver. I’m hoping that we can showcase that when we go back this time and earn the finish that we deserve.”

You’re off to a strong start for 2023 and picking up where you left off in 2022 with back-to-back top-10s to start the season at Daytona and Fontana. Does that give you an extra boost of confidence as you start this long season?

“Yes and no. I think you have to take it one race at a time, but I’m obviously happy to start off the season strong like that. We haven’t always had that, and I think it’s a testament to the hard work that we put in together as a team. Having Cole Custer as a teammate has helped me out a lot as far as leaning on him for information or learning from him, but I think the No. 98 team in general has grown from that first season together in 2021. It helps build confidence to get these runs, but the ultimate goal is always victory lane. We’ll always be hungry for that.”

The design will also promote Panini’s NFT Blockchain platform, a top 10 blockchain platform behind other blockchain’s including Ethereum, Solana and Polygon. The paint scheme will still carry the colors of Panini’s traditional paint scheme which has been used in the Xfinity Series since 2019.

To mark, and celebrate the Panini NFT car, Panini will be releasing a free #08 Panini NFT Color Blast Car NFT for all users to claim for 48 hours, starting when the green flag drops in Las Vegas and for those who register for an account on the Panini Blockchain platform at https://www.paniniamerica.net/blockchain prior to the start of the race on Saturday, March 4.  Panini’s Blockchain platform allows sports fans to collect digital trading card NFTs in U.S. dollars across multiple sports and around Panini’s most popular trading card brands.

“When we renewed the partnership with Gray Gaulding and SS Greenlight Racing, we were aligned that we would keep being innovative with the #08 car, like we did with paint scheme that highlighted Panini’s Donruss trading card brand and Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback Patrick Mahomes on the hood in 2019 before he ever was a Super Bowl MVP,” said Jason Howarth, Vice President of Marketing at Panini America.

Gray Gaulding and SS Greenlight Racing kicked off their renewed sponsorship with a strong Top 20 finish at Daytona International Speedway to start the season.

“When I saw the new paint scheme, I loved the look and was excited to share the new Panini NFT Color Blast design with race fans,” said Gray Gaulding. “Color Blast has become such a popular trading card design that fans of all sports identify with it.  To showcase it around Panini’s NFT Blockchain platform in a unique way is really cool.  I can’t wait to get this car on the track!” added Gaulding.

    • On a restart following a caution in stage two, Haley was involved in a multi-car pileup on lap 86, resulting in nose damage to the No. 31 Camaro ZL1. The team assessed the damage and made repairs while on the damage vehicle clock. Haley nursed the car to the end of the stage while still managing to make up spots, finishing 23rd
    • The team continued to make repairs and adjustments throughout the final stage, resulting in a 21st-place finish for Haley and the No. 31 LeafFilter Gutter Protection Camaro ZL1

“Our No. 31 LeafFilter Gutter Protection Camaro ZL1 was so fast. We ran free in comparison to my teammate, AJ (Allmendinger), but we knew we had so much speed and potential. Trent (Owens) made some great calls to help the ride quality of the car, and we knew if we could get some track position we would be in a good spot. Unfortunately, we got caught in a pileup on a restart and sustained heavy nose damage. P21 was a decent finish for the day we had.” – Justin Haley

AJ Allmendinger, No. 16 Nutrien Ag Solutions FARMSMART Camaro ZL1

    • Per the rulebook, AJ Allmendinger started the Pala Casino 400 sixth, after practice and qualifying were canceled due to inclement weather.

    • On lap 75, Allmendinger’s day ended early after a hit in the right-side door resulted in contact with the inside wall and damage the team was not able to repair on pit road.
    • Allmendinger and the No. 16 Nutrien Ag Solutions FARM SMART Camaro ZL1 were scored 36th.

“Disappointing day at Auto Club for sure. We were battling handling all day. We just lacked grip and struggled over the bumps in turns three and four. The team worked to make adjustments to try to give me more grip and confidence in the car, but ultimately our day ended early after contact with the inside wall. Not the day we hoped for by any means, but we’re focused forward on Las Vegas next week.” – AJ Allmendinger

    Production Alliance Group 300

Austin Dillon, No. 10 LA Golf Chevrolet

    • Per the rulebook, Austin Dillon started the Production Alliance Group 300 15th, after practice and qualifying were canceled due to inclement weather.

    • Dillon improved during the second stage, finishing fourth in the No. 10 LA Golf Chevrolet
    • In the final stage, Dillon received right front damage from an incident he could not avoid. The No.10 team was able to make repairs, helping Dillon to an eighth-place finish.

“Man, what a fast Kaulig Chevrolet. Thanks to Matt Kaulig and Chris Rice for the opportunity. Our Chevy was great until it got out into clean air. Then, it was plowing. Just had a little bit of damage that affected the handling of our LA Golf Chevrolet. I love racing at Auto Club Speedway.” – Austin Dillon

Chandler Smith, No. 16 Quick Tie Chevrolet

    • Per the rulebook, Chandler Smith started the Production Alliance Group 300 fifth, after practice and qualifying were canceled due to inclement weather.

    • In the Final Stage, the team made positive adjustments during the pit stops, and Smith closed in on the top five again before leading his first laps with Kaulig Racing, Smith went on to finish fourth, earning his first top five with Kaulig Racing.

“Overall we had a really solid day and earned our first top five of the season. I’m looking forward to hopefully building off this as we head to Las Vegas and hopefully working towards that first win. We had a really fast Quick Tie Chevrolet, and I’m really proud of the effort for the first race of the West Coast Swing and everybody at Kaulig Racing.” – Chandler Smith

Daniel Hemric, No. 11 Poppy Bank Chevrolet

    • Per the rulebook, Daniel Hemric started the Production Alliance Group 300 35th, after practice and qualifying were canceled due to inclement weather.
    • Hemric showed impressive speed, making up sixteen spots early on. The team battled the handling of the car all stage long, making minor adjustments each pit stop to try to help the balance of the car, and Hemric ultimately finished Stage one in fourth.

    • Hemric continued a strong run in the final stage and went on to finish 12th in the No. 11 Poppy Bank Chevrolet.

“Sad to think we just ran our last race here at the incredible two-mile racetrack of Auto Club Speedway. We had wanted to go out and have a better finish in our No.11 Poppy Bank Chevrolet, but we could just not figure out how to move forward when we needed to the most there at the end of the race. Although a disappointing finish, the car is in one piece, which is something to build off. Heading to Vegas we will regroup and be better.” – Daniel Hemric

    TOYOTA QUOTES

JOHN HUNTER NEMECHEK, No. 20 Vons/Albertsons Toyota GR Supra, Joe Gibbs Racing

    Finishing Position: 1st

Can you describe how good the race car was here today?

“My guys gave me one hell of a race car. This Toyota GR Supra was as fast as Xfinity 10G – if not faster. I can thank everyone enough. Vons, Albertsons – all of our great partners, Toyota, TRD, Coach (Joe) Gibbs for the opportunity – everyone that was involved to put this whole deal together. I feel like it’s one of the best opportunities that I’ve had in my career. Two races in – we are executing pretty well. I’m happy to work with this whole group. I’m confident in our team. Can’t thank Coach enough – just wish Coy was here to celebrate with us.”

How big is to get this type of rhythm this early in the season?

“We have momentum on our side right now. I’ve peak too early in years past, so hopefully we can keep the ball rolling all year long. I’m confident in this whole team, confident in all of our guys – everyone at JGR (Joe Gibbs Racing), the motor shop, Toyota, TRD – just can’t thank everyone enough. I’m so grateful for this opportunity and the plan of stepping back to move back up the ranks is paying off so far.”

What does it mean to be the final winner at this race track?

“It’s cool. To write my name in history as the final winner at this two-mile oval – what a great place. You can run all of the lanes. You slip and slide around. The seams are treacherous – but after Kyle (Busch) won – there’s been a lot of doubt, I feel like from fans about Ben (Beshore) coming back to be my crew chief. After Kyle won the race, I texted Ben. He came up to the box and I told him that it was our turn to go get one, and now here we are.”

KAZ GRALA, No. 26 Fire Department Coffee Toyota GR Supra, Sam Hunt Racing

    Finishing Position: 13th

    How was your race?

“I feel like our Fire Department Coffee No. 26 GR Supra was pretty good. I actually think we were a top-10 car. We had some fuel pickup issues that plagued us down the straightaways all night long, but even with the issue, we were a really solid top-15 car all night, and ran there all night. We ended up finishing 13th. I think if that last caution or two had not come out, we were probably going to be p11. All-in-all really solid night for our Sam Hunt Racing team – we salvaged the best finish that we could and got out of here with some good points and a pretty clean car for Vegas. I feel like we checked all of our boxes and we will clean up whatever that issue was and be good going into Vegas knowing that. I definitely think this was very promsing for me for the season as a whole. I feel like we can run with the guys that we need to be running with to make a run at this thing for the Playoffs. I’m really excited about tonight and excited to be coming out of here with a 13th-place finish with all things considered.”

“Our Production Alliance Group Ford Mustang was super fast. We had a car capable of winning, but had one restart not go our way and then in the next one our right front (tire) went down and we got damage and, after that, we just couldn’t get back from there – just too much damage to overcome. It’s frustrating. We had such a fast car and couldn’t capitalize on it.” – Cole Custer, driver of the No. 00 Production Alliance Group Ford Mustang

The next event on the NASCAR Xfinity Series schedule is the Alsco Uniforms 300 on Saturday, March 4 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The race begins at 4:30 p.m. EST with live coverage provided by FS1 and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
