Inaugural Journey: After spending the past several seasons as a full-time team in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series, AM Racing will embark on its inaugural journey in the NASCAR Xfinity Series this season with driver Brett Moffitt for the entire 33-race tour continuing with Saturday afternoon’s Production Alliance Group 300 at Auto Club (Calif.) Speedway.

Future Focused: With AM’s inaugural Xfinity journey set to continue at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif., the team has chosen veteran driver Brett Moffitt to lead the team’s campaign from the driver’s seat aboard the No. 25 Ford Mustang.

Moffitt, a native of Grimes, Iowa hails numerous starts across all three of NASCAR’s National Series, including the 2018 Truck Series championship with Hattori Racing Enterprises.

Moffitt, 30, arrives on the scene at AM Racing after a stint at Our Motorsports.

Back For More: The Statesville, N.C.-based team will sport the signage of AM Technical Solutions on the No. 25 Ford Mustang for the second of 33 NASCAR Xfinity Series races this season.

Headquartered in Austin, TX, AM Technical Solutions (AMTS) was founded in 1994.

AM Technical Solutions is a Global Architecture, Engineering & Construction firm specializing in the high-tech markets. AMTS has managed over $20B of global capital projects for over 170 different customers in 24 countries and across five continents.

Thanks For Your Support: With the start of the 2023 season underway, AM Racing and Brett Moffitt would like to thank their associate marketing partners for their support: AIRBOX Air Purifier, CForce Bottling Company, Concrete Supply, Destiny Homes, Flying Circle, Kreuz Market, Lane Frost Brand, Mechanix Wear and Mobil 1.

Congratulations Team: Earlier this week, AM Racing went to Victory Lane at Fayetteville Motor Speedway during Carolina Speedweek in their No. 23 AM Racing 602 Dirt Modified.

The recent expansion of the organization to dirt is part of the team’s vision for their Future Focused initiative with additional details to be unveiled soon.

Brett Moffitt Xfinity Auto Club Speedway Stats: Saturday afternoon’s Production Alliance Group 300 will mark Moffitt’s third start at the 2.0-mile speedway.

In his previous two efforts, he has delivered two top-20 finishes. His track-best result occurred during the 2020 spring edition of the Production Alliance Group 300 when Moffitt steered to a

Track best of 14th after starting 29th for Our Motorsports.

In addition to his previous two Xfinity Series races, the popular driver also has a lone NASCAR Cup Series start at the Southern California race track in 2015 driving for Michael Waltrip Racing.

After starting 30th, Moffitt earned a lead-lap 22nd place finish.

Brett Moffitt NASCAR Xfinity Series Career Stats: In 85 career Xfinity Series starts, Moffitt has earned two top-five and 23 top-10 finishes, including a second-place outing at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in February 2021.

In addition to 84 Xfinity Series starts, he has achieved 45 NASCAR Cup Series and 92 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series starts to his credit.

Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway | Beef. It’s What’s For Dinner. 300 Race Recap: In the most recent NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, AM Racing successfully made their series’ debut with Moffitt at the “World Center of Racing”

After qualifying on speed in the 32nd position, Moffitt maneuvered his No. 25 AM Technical Solutions Ford Mustang through the field and drafted inside the top five where he hovered for a majority of the race until late-race contact from another driver caused a flat tire sending Moffitt to pit road for an unscheduled stop.

The setback left few laps for the Statesville, N.C.-based team to recover leaving the team with a 29th-place finish.

From the Pit Box: Industry veteran Joe Williams is Brett Moffit’s crew chief.

He will crew chief his 100th NASCAR Xfinity Series race as crew chief on Saturday afternoon and his third race at the 2.0-mile speedway.

Williams is the defending race-winning crew chief after steering Cole Custer to victory last February for SS GreenLight Racing with Jeff Lefcourt first career victory in the sport.

In his previous 99 NASCAR Xfinity Series starts, he has collected one win (Auto Club Speedway | February 2022), seven top-five and 21 top-10 finishes.

    Brett Moffitt Quoteboard:

On Auto Club Speedway: “Auto Club has been a decent track for me over the years but I have high hopes for this weekend’s race. Joe (Williams Jr.) has been working hard on our No. 25 AM Technical Solutions Ford Mustang and knowing he won that race last year brings some excitement to our AM Racing team.

“We ran strong at Daytona but did not get the finish we deserved. I hope we are able to earn the finish I know our team deserves.”

On 2023 Season Outlook: “There has been so much effort put into the 2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series season and honestly, I am so excited about it. I cannot thank everyone on the AM Racing team enough for the opportunity and for taking a chance on me to lead them in the inaugural year.

“I believe we will exceed everyone’s expectations and not only will we challenge for race wins, but we will achieve them and contend for the 2023 Xfinity Series championship.”

    • Kaulig Racing has made two starts at Auto Club Speedway in the NCS, both in 2022 with Justin Haley and Daniel Hemric
    • Hemric currently holds the best finish at Auto Club Speedway for the team, after earning a top-10 finish in the 2022 Wise Power 400

AJ Allmendinger, No. 16 Nutrien Ag Solutions FARMSMART Camaro ZL1

    • Sunday will be AJ Allmendinger’s first start with Kaulig Racing at Auto Club Speedway in the NCS
    • In Allmendinger’s only NXS start at Auto Club Speedway with Kaulig Racing in 2022, he earned the team’s first pole award at the track and recorded a seventh-place finish

“Auto Club is a fun race track that always allows a lot of passing. It’s the last race there on this configuration; it’s very bumpy and very line-sensitive at times, but it’s also a race track that when you’re hooked up, it can be a lot of fun to drive. I felt like the cars last year in the Cup race were really quick. Hopefully we can unload, be really fast, and I can get comfortable with the race track really quickly and try to carry the momentum that we have from last week.” – AJ Allmendinger on Auto Club Speedway

Justin Haley, No. 31 LeafFilter Gutter Protection Camaro ZL1

    • Justin Haley made his first start at Auto Club Speedway in the NCS in 2022 with Kaulig Racing, where he finished 23rd.
    • Haley and Kaulig Racing had previous success together at Auto Club Speedway in the NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS), when Haley earned one top five and a top-10 finish in two starts with the team

“Auto Club is a track we actually kind of struggled at last year, as well as the other two-mile racetracks. We have definitely put some time into figuring out what we need arrow-wise to be faster, so I feel like we got a good grasp of it going into the weekend. Multi-groove racetracks are extremely fun to race on and have a lot of character to them, so this a fun one I’m looking forward to.” – Justin Haley on

Austin Dillon, No. 10 LA Golf Chevrolet

    • Austin Dillon has made six starts at Auto Club Speedway in the NXS
    • Out of those six starts, Dillon recorded one win and five top-five finishes
    • The Production Alliance Group 300 will mark Dillon’s sixth start with Kaulig Racing in the NXS since 2018

“Auto Club Speedway is one of my favorite tracks, and I’ve been successful there before in the NASCAR Xfinity Series so I can’t wait to get there this weekend with Kaulig Racing. Those guys have such a strong program. It’s a bigger track, and the bigger tracks suit me well because you can really move around and find speed. Restarts are going to be very important. You have to have speed at the beginning of a run and then hold it for a long run. If you can’t take off you get beat on the restarts and if you can’t hold on they’re going to lap you at the end of a run. You have to have a good balance between the short and the long run. If you can do that, you’ll be pretty good.” – Austin Dillon on Auto Club Speedway

Daniel Hemric, No. 11 Poppy Bank Chevrolet

    • Daniel Hemric has made four starts at Auto Club Speedway in the NXS
    • Out of those four starts, Hemric has led 20 laps, recorded one top five, two top-10 finishes, and has an average start of fourth and average finish of 8.8

“I’m proud of everyone at Kaulig Racing and their efforts to kick the West Coast swing off. I’m excited to go to a track that everyone loves and enjoys visiting. With this being the final time that we race on the two-mile configuration at Auto Club, we are going there treating it like it could be the last time we walk out of there. The possibility of winning would be ideal, and that’s just what everyone on the No.11 Poppy Bank Chevrolet is trying to do. I’m looking forward to that chance.” – Daniel Hemric on Auto Club Speedway

Chandler Smith, No. 16 Quick Tie Chevrolet

    • Smith has no prior experience at Auto Club Speedway.
    • Smith will make his first NXS start at Auto Club Speedway in the Production Alliance Group 300

“I’ve never raced at Auto Club Speedway before, so this will be a new experience altogether for me. I’m looking forward to taking the Quick Tie Chevy Camaro away from the superspeedway and to a track that relies on more throttle control and driver input. Hopefully, we will build off our 12th-place finish at Daytona and grab our first top-ten of the season.” – Chandler Smith on Auto Club Speedway

In 2019, he qualified his No. 00 Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) Ford third, then beat runner-up Kyle Busch by 1.927 seconds, leading 29 laps along the way. Last year, Custer piloted in the No. 07 Ford Mustang for SS GreenLight Racing to the victory by a .565-of-a-second margin over runner-up Noah Gragson.

    • Returning to Custer’s No. 00 SHR Mustang this weekend is Production Alliance Group (PAG). Tustin, California-based PAG is a premium live-event and creative development company. Its creative works can been seen at concerts, award shows, sporting events, and corporate events. From the lights to the sound and everything in-between, PAG is the creativity and execution behind it all. Coincidentally, it was in victory lane after the 2019 Xfinity Series race that the PAG-SHR relationship began. Custer first met company president and CEO Dale Sahlin. The two kept in touch, and PAG ultimately decided to increase its presence within NASCAR via SHR’s Xfinity Series program.

    • The Production Alliance Group 300 will be Custer’s fifth Xfinity Series start at Fontana and his seventh overall. He has two NASCAR Cup Series starts at the track. Prior to his back-to-back wins in the Xfinity Series, Custer had a sixth-place finish in the March 2018 race after an accident ended his Fontana Xfinity Series debut in 2017. He’s got his eye on victory lane once again after a strong ninth-place outing in last Saturday’s season opener at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.

    • On Friday night at Fontana, Custer will participate in the track’s annual Pedal Party. The event kicks off the race weekend with a bike ride around the track, during which fans get a chance to take their wheels onto the asphalt joined by drivers. Custer will ride on the Burgeon’s Heating & A/C party trailer that will roam the infield to signal the beginning of the bike ride and the race weekend. The party starts at 5 p.m. PT.

    Riley Herbst Notes of Interest

    • Riley Herbst will be a newly minted 24-year-old when he rolls into Auto Club Speedway for Saturday’s Production Alliance Group 300. His birthday is Friday (Feb. 24) and he’s hoping to celebrate by parking his No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang for SHR in victory lane. Last Saturday, Herbst picked up right where he left off in 2022 by scoring a sixth-place finish in the season opener at Daytona, where the No. 98 team showcased its speed and fortitude by running in the top-three for a majority of the race. It was the first race with Herbst’s new teammate, the ninth-place-finishing Custer.

    • Herbst also made his first NASCAR Cup Series start in last Sunday’s Daytona 500, driving the No. 15 Ford Mustang for Rick Ware Racing. While the Las Vegas native struggled in the initial laps, he rebounded by avoiding mayhem on his way to a 10th-place finish, his second of the weekend. Herbst became only the second driver in NASCAR history to record a top-10 in his Cup Series debut in the Daytona 500, joining Terry Ryan, who made his debut in the 1976 edition of The Great American Race and finished sixth. He is also the fourth driver in NASCAR history to score a top-10 in his first career start in the Cup Series, Xfinity Series, and Truck Series.

    • Herbst’s strong run at Daytona sets the stage for his arrival at one of his stronger tracks. Fontana is the site of his career-best Xfinity Series finish of second, earned in his first start at the track in 2020. He equaled that result a little less than five months later with another runner-up finish at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta. Herbst’s next Xfinity Series outing at Fontana also resulted in a top-10 finish. After a one-year hiatus in 2021, the series returned to the track for last year’s race, which he finished ninth.

    • Monster Energy has supported Herbst throughout a majority of his career and continues its support of him in the No. 98 Ford Mustang. Fontana will be a hometown race for the brand as its headquarters are located in Corona, California. On Friday, Herbst will visit the facility to meet and thank employees for their support of his career. Monster Energy is the leading marketer of energy drinks and alternative beverages. Refusing to acknowledge the traditional, the company supports the scene and sport. Monster Energy is a brand that believes in authenticity and the core of what its sports partnerships, athletes and musicians represent. More than a drink, it’s the way of life lived by athletes, sports, bands, believers and fans.

Cole Custer, Driver of the No. 00 Production Alliance Group Ford Mustang

You’re returning to Fontana, where you’ve won in your past two Xfinity Series starts. What is it about the track that appeals to your driving style?

“I love Fontana. It’s probably my favorite racetrack on the circuit. It’s a great track because you’re moving around so much, slipping and sliding, and there are so many different racing lines you can use depending on what your car wants. We’ve won there in the Xfinity Series twice and it’s where we first met our sponsors from PAG, so that was all very cool. I’d love to bring them another win there this weekend.”

After a strong outing last weekend at Daytona that ended in a top-10 finish, what are your expectations for the No. 00 team this season?

“I think some people could look at it and assume that I’m thinking, ‘Poor me, I’ve gone back to the Xfinity Series.’ For me, there’s not really any ‘poor me’ in it. I’m excited to go out and compete for wins. There’s always some emotion but, at the end of the day, once you really think about it, I’m excited about the thought of going to win races in the Xfinity Series this season. It’s no secret that we want to go out and win races and compete for a championship. If we’re not, it’s a disappointment. We can talk as much as we want about it, but now we have to go and do it.”

Riley Herbst, Driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang

Back to Fontana – you scored top-10 finishes in your previous two visits to the track with the Xfinity Series. Talk about your expectations for the weekend.

“I’m excited to go back to Fontana. It’s one of my favorite tracks. I think we have shown that we have the speed to compete, so now we just need to perform. We have a secret weapon with Cole Custer on our team. He’s really good there and I’m hoping to learn from him as we go through the weekend. The goal is to put an SHR car in victory lane and I’m hoping we can turn that second from 2020 to a first this weekend. It would mean the world to get a win in Monster’s hometown.”

One race into this NASCAR Xfinity Series season, how competitive do you think the series is this year?

“The Xfinity Series is as competitive as it’s ever been in its history. In 2023, we have a lot of good drivers in the series and that makes it more special when you do well and win races. There are also a lot of drivers from last year that have moved up to Cup and it’s a new playing field. I think you saw it last week at Daytona, but people seem to be more patient and willing to work together. I’m excited to race this group of drivers and, hopefully, we can make it to victory lane.”

Professional Agriculture Chevrolet has scored a best finish of
second, coming in this event in 2018.
    • To accompany the runner-up result, Allgaier has amassed seven top 10s, including in five of the last six races at the Southern California oval.
    • In his NXS career on tracks 2 miles or larger, the Illinois native has recorded one win (Indianapolis – 2018), 21 top fives and 40 top 10s in 78 career starts.

    Driver Quotes

“I have really been looking forward to getting back to Auto Club. We had a super fast Chevrolet there last year that allowed us to run up front and ended with a sixth-place finish. Coming off of Daytona, Mardy (Lindley, crew chief)and the No. 1 team gave me an awesome race car and we were really shooting for the win. Unfortunately, landing on our lid on the final lap was not in our plans but we’re learning from it and ready to get to California. “ – Sam Mayer

“Fontana is such a fun track to race on. With its worn out surface and multi-grooves, you can really race anywhere around the track. I can’t wait to get there this weekend and see what we can do with our BRANDT Professional Agriculture Chevrolet. Jim (Pohlman, crew chief) and all the guys on this No. 7 team have done a great job to start the year. We’re sure to have the same speed we showed last week in Daytona when we hit the track Saturday morning.” – Justin Allgaier

“We had a really fast Bass Pro Shops/TRACKER Boats & ATVs Chevrolet last week at Daytona and I’ve been pretty comfortable at 2-mile tracks, so I’m ready to see how we do at Auto Club this weekend. We had a real shot at winning Daytona, and Taylor (Moyer, crew chief) and our No. 8 team are prepped and ready to get it done this weekend in California.” – Josh Berry

“We had a lot of speed last week at Daytona, which gives this Menards/Patriot Lighting team confidence as we head to Auto Club. JR Motorsports was fast here last year and I’ve had speed here in the past, so hopefully, we can get momentum moving our way and be battling for the win at the end of the race.” – Brandon Jones

    AUTO CLUB SPEEDWAY NOTES
    Saturday, February 25 – NASCAR Xfinity Series, 5 p.m. ET (FS1)
Sunday, February 26 – NASCAR Cup Series, 3:30 p.m. ET (FOX)

The annual West Coast swing begins this weekend as Auto Club Speedway hosts the NASCAR Cup and NASCAR Xfinity Series. This will mark the final event on the two-mile oval, which made its NASCAR Cup Series debut on June 22, 1997, as plans for a new short track configuration continue to take shape.

LOGANO AND BUESCHER 1-2 IN CUP STANDINGS

Two Ford drivers lead the NASCAR Cup Series standings after the first week as Team Penske’s Joey Logano and Roush Fenway Keselowski’s Chris Buescher hold down the first and second spots, respectively. Logano finished second to race-winner Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in Sunday’s Daytona 500 while Buescher scored points in all three stages before ultimately finishing fourth. Ryan Blaney is seventh in the point standings with Kevin Harvick one spot behind as Ford features four drivers in the top 10.

CHASE BRISCOE ON THE FINAL CUP RACE AROUND THE 2-MILE AUTO CLUB OVAL

“Auto Club is just so fun from a driver’s standpoint because it’s so slick. It’s wore out. It’s rough. You just bounce around. You literally run wherever on the racetrack, especially with the Next Gen car. I thought that it was just a really well put together racetrack for those cars, so I’m bummed. It’s one of my favorite tracks for sure to go to just because I feel like that’s one of the tracks where you as a driver can make quite a bit of a difference.”

RYAN BLANEY ON WHY DRIVERS ENJOY RACING AT AUTO CLUB SPEEDWAY

“It is a big, slick, multiple lane groove race track. It is bumpy and rough and drivers love that stuff. The reason why all of us loved Atlanta before they repaved it. Why all of us loved Texas before they repaved it. Chicago, we don’t even go there anymore but all of us loved that place. Old worn out tracks with a bunch of grooves and lanes are what drivers like. It is challenging and you are sliding around and there is room to race. Drivers enjoy that.”

    KEVIN HARVICK

Bakersfield native Kevin Harvick goes into this weekend with 60 career NASCAR Cup Series victories and two of those have come on tracks in his home state. Harvick has one career NASCAR Cup Series win at Auto Club Speedway (2011) and another one at Sonoma Raceway, which happened to be his first win with Ford in 2017.

    COLE CUSTER

Cole Custer grew up in Ladera Ranch, which is about 70 miles north of San Diego, and has enjoyed success at NASCAR’s top levels. He’s won two of the last three NASCAR Xfinity Series events at Auto Club Speedway (2019, 2022) and in four starts has an average starting position of 3.3. In addition to his two victories, Custer also has a sixth-place finish in 2018.

    FOUR TIRES PROPELS KESELOWSKI

Thanks to a pair of cautions that resulted in two green-white-checker restarts, and a gamble by crew chief Paul Wolfe in the closing laps, Brad Keselowski came out of nowhere to win the Auto Club 400 in 2015. Kurt Busch looked ticketed for victory as he led the field coming to the white flag, but caution for debris came out before he crossed the start-finish line, resulting in a green-white-checker finish and a flurry of action on pit road. The decision for crew chiefs was whether to take two or four tires, and most of the leaders decided on two. Wolfe saw that and felt the only way his team could win was if they did something different, so he ordered four. Even though it put them back in 17th on the ensuing restart, the fresh tires enabled him to charge up to sixth on the restart. When the rear bumper of Kyle Larson’s Chevrolet flew off and brought out another caution, it set up Keselowski who had the freshest tires and made all the right moves on the restart to get past Harvick and Busch to win for the 17th time in his career.

KENSETH GOES 2-FOR-2 TO START 2009

Matt Kenseth followed up his first Daytona 500 victory by taking the checkered flag in the Auto Club 500 one week later on Feb. 22, 2009. Kenseth became the fifth driver in NASCAR Cup Series history to follow a Daytona 500 victory with another win the following week. On this day, he and Jeff Gordon had the two best cars on the track, but Kenseth’s advantage came on pit road, where his crew continually got him out first. Kenseth led a race-high 84 laps as he went on to post his third all-time win at the two-mile track.

BIFFLE RALLIES FROM ONE LAP DOWN

Despite falling a lap down, Greg Biffle found a way to not only get back to the front, but hold off a charging Jimmie Johnson to win the Auto Club 500 on Feb. 27, 2005. Biffle led a parade of four Roush Fords in the Top 10 as Kurt Busch finished third, Carl Edwards fifth and Mark Martin seventh. Biffle put himself in position to win when he stayed out on what proved to be the final caution of the day. Busch had the lead on the restart with 29 laps to go, but Biffle was able to pass him six circuits later.

    ON THE MARK

Ford got its first checkered flag at Auto Club Speedway in the track’s second year of existence when Mark Martin won the NASCAR Cup Series race on May 3, 1998. Martin was in a class by himself that afternoon as he led 165 of the 200 laps en route to what was his 25th career victory. In all, six Fords finished in the top-10 as Jeremy Mayfield finished second, Chad Little, Geoffrey Bodine, and Johnny Benson were sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively, while Jeff Burton ended up 10th.

HERBST BECOMES FIRST FORD DRIVER SINCE…

Riley Herbst will likely never forget his NASCAR Cup Series debut. That’s because after being involved in a 13-car accident on lap 204 of Sunday’s Daytona 500, Herbst recovered to finish 10th driving the No. 15 Mustang for Rick Ware Racing. That came on the heels of a sixth-place effort in Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series event with Stewart-Haas Racing. As a result, Herbst became the first full-time NXS driver since Austin Cindric in 2021 to have a top-10 run in both of NASCAR’s top two series in the same weekend. Cindric won the Indianapolis Road Course NXS event on Saturday and followed that up with a ninth-place Cup effort the following day.

    IN THEIR WORDS:
QUOTES FROM RYAN ELLIS, BRANDON CORNELIUS, AND DAVID SCHILDHOUSE

“I’m so thankful that Costa returned to our team in 2023. I met him at the beginning of the 2022 season, and he was a motorsports fan but hadn’t been involved in racing with his brand. Working with Costa, his franchisees, and other partners has been an absolute pleasure. He’s become a friend above all else, and his support of my career means a lot to my family and me. To have him come back and increase his amount of races shows his commitment to supporting motorsports, and I hope that fans support COSTA OIL™ so we can continue to work together for years to come,” said Ellis, driver of the No.43 COSTA OIL™ Chevy.

“Being a part of Ryan Ellis’s career and the No.43 car from Alpha Prime Racing has been such an honor for us. The automotive industry and NASCAR go hand in hand, and we believe Ryan is not only a great driver but also a great steward of our brand. His passion for racing and the partnerships with sponsors make every race feel like we are family. It’s a great feeling watching him drive with the Costa Oil logo around the track,” said Brandon Cornelius, Head of Franchise Development at COSTA OIL™.

“We are really pleased to have Costa Oil back with us this season,” said David Schildhouse, Vice President of Alpha Prime Racing. “Seeing a company return for more races as a primary sponsor on our racecars speaks volumes about the progress we’ve made as a team but, more importantly, the value a business can find in supporting motorsports. Costa has stepped up to support Ryan Ellis’ journey towards competing full-time in 2023, and we’re proud to be a part of it.”
