Sheldon Creed and the No. 2 Whelen Chevrolet Team Fight Hard for a Top-Five Finish at Martinsville Speedway

    Finish: 2nd
    Start: 2nd
    Points: 14th

“I had a really fast Whelen Chevrolet today. I put us in a hole early by getting a speeding penalty, but luckily we were able to work as a team to recover and ultimately finish second. Our Chevrolet was tight all day, but our RCR team worked on it every chance we got. Towards the end of the race, it was crazy with guys moving and wrecking each other. I knew to have a shot for the win I needed to be aggressive, and that’s what I did. It feels good to leave Martinsville with second-place finish. I love racing here and RCR brought me a Chevrolet where I could race like i needed to.” -Sheldon Creed

Austin Hill and the No. 21 Global Industrial Team Grab Ninth-Place Finish at Martinsville Speedway

    Finish: 9th
    Start: 36th
    Points: 6th

“Our Global Industrial Chevrolet was good at the start of the race. We got up to 10th by the end of Stage 1 and had a really good car during Stage 2. We kind of started falling off toward the end of the run in that stage. As the race went on, we just lost a little bit of the handle. We were getting too loose on entry and too loose on exit and it was hurting our pace. It was really hard to attack the corners. The No. 51 got into me and that put us in the back with all the mess again. While I was trying to come back through the field the wreck happened between Turns 3 and 4 and I got a ton of damage on our car. I don’t know how we finished ninth. I was doing all I could to get back up there but was just nursing it at the end. Unfortunately, we’re out of the NASCAR Playoffs but will still go to Phoenix with the goal of winning and finishing the year on a strong note.” -Austin Hill

    TOYOTA QUOTES

BRANDON JONES, No. 19 Menards/Tuscany Faucets Toyota GR Supra, Joe Gibbs Racing

    Finishing Position: 15th

What happened between you and Ty Gibbs on the final lap?

“First off I want to say a big thanks to Tuscany faucets and Menards — they’ve stuck with me for a very long time in my career and I had the race won I think, you know, I don’t know I love my guys I love everyone on this 19 team, but I’m excited to make my move JRM next year and be a part of that organization and a little bit more respect over there probably next year so I’m excited for that. We’ve got one race left at Phoenix. I know we can go out there and win that and shake this up a little bit still and try to steal a little thunder there. So I don’t know man, I have no words. You know, I know that we had some fun beating and banging back and forth a little bit but I’ve never, you know, wrecked him or anything for a win. And so it just kind of shows where that level was there.”

Did you think Ty Gibbs would be willing to be that aggressive to win the race knowing the position you were in to have to win to make it to the Championship 4?

“I think it opened up the opportunity to get moved, but I don’t know about dumped and destroyed and finish dead last I mean I guess at the end the day I needed to win the race you know so I think for you know, second to last. It is what it is you know, but just expected to maybe have a little bit more of a shot at it there. You know, I think that to me, that’s what’s fun in this sport is having a duel and not just completely destroying somebody’s day.”

How do you plan to get even?

“I don’t know man, you know I think that he’s made plenty of friends out here on the race track so time will tell. I know he’s going different places and I’m going different places so I’m sure eventually it all will line back up there.”

How would you sum up your race today?

“First off, a really phenomenal day. I mean, I think in the spring race here, we kind of ran around 12th to 10th and worked our way up to the front was able to kind of do the same move that we did similar there to the end. And that kind of went through my mind, you know, a bunch and we just continue to swap between first and second place really, and no way is anybody going to take the top, you know, and I assume that anybody behind me is going to give me a little bit of hack, you know, and I’m going to try to give them as much as I can to but never take anybody on the show. I think I’ve lost more races than I than I have won by just respectfully you know, letting guys when not pulling moves like that but time all time will always bring that back together there and I think that it’ll it always come back around. So I’m looking forward to Phoenix man, you know, I think that we’re going have a shot to win that race. I I felt that way the entire day to day thinking I’m going get to this next round and I’m going to go win Phoenix and it is what it is, man. I’ve got another year to do. So I’m very fortunate to be back and XFINITY next year so I’ll just continue to take everything I’m learning here and bring it to next year.”

    Martinsville Speedway

    News and Notes:

    • Practice; On Friday afternoon the 40-car NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) field would be split into separate groups for two 15-minute practice sessions, partaking in Group A Myatt Snider would record a fast lap of 20.568 at 92.065 mph during his 20-lap session placing the TaxSlayer Chevrolet the 7th fastest car in Group A, and 19th overall of the 40 cars entered for the Dead On Tools 250.

    – Starting Position; Directly after both 15-minute practice sessions teams would move into qualifying to determine the starting order for Saturday afternoon’s Dead On Tools 250. In 2022, short-track qualifying consists of a single round of single car qualifying for two laps. Rolling off 19th to make his qualification laps Snider would put down a quick lap of 20.196 at 93.761 placing the No. 31 TaxSlayer Chevrolet Camaro 14th overall. Snider and the Jordan Anderson Racing (JAR) Bommarito Autosport team will start outside of row 7 for Saturday afternoon’s Dead On Tools 250.

    – Martinsville Speedway Stats; Saturday afternoons NXS Dead On Tools 250 will mark Snider’s fifth NXS start at Martinsville Speedway. In October of 2020, Snider made his NXS debut at the historic 0.526-mile Virginia paperclip earning himself a 23rd place finish after running in the Top-Ten majority of the race, but would get caught up in someone else’s retaliation in the closing laps. 2021 would see the NXS compete at Martinsville twice and once again Snider would put himself him contention to claim victory claiming a 15th place finish in the Spring and a 12th place finish in the Fall.

Moving to JAR Bommarito Autosport for 2022, the Spring Martinsville race would see Snider start in the 19th position and work his way into the 15th spot before getting stuck in the outside lane and get pushed back to the 24th spot before short pitting during a Lap-38 caution to earn track position at the end of Stage-1. Finishing 21st Snider would stay out on track, and restart in 2nd on the restart. Holding steady in the Top-10 for 30-Laps everyone with fresher tires would begin to overtake the No. 31 and push Snider to the outside groove. Getting passed by cars in the bottom groove contact with the No. 2 in Turn-3 would cause Snider to lock up the brakes and drop back to the 21st spot where he would flat spot the tires. Holding onto the car a caution on Lap-117 would allow Snider to short pit once again. Finishing Stage-2 in the 29thspot, Snider would stay on track to restart the final stage in 20th. During the final stage the No. 31 would run as high as 14th before fading back at the end of the race to ultimately finish in the 24th position. In four races at Martinsville Speedway Snider holds an average finish of 18.8.

For the first time this year and in recognition of Halloween, the team will promote Bucked Up’s Pump N’ Grind flavor.

Whether you’re addicted to the pump or the grind, this flavor delivers your daily reminder the work doesn’t stop.

About Bucked Up Energy: Bucked Up started in 2013 when twin brothers Ryan and Jeff Gardner started marketing a product called Deer Antler Spray. After selling thousands of bottles to GNCs nationwide, the company morphed into what is now Bucked Up, a full-fledged vitamins and supplements manufacturer.

The company has gone from its humble beginnings to becoming the No. 1 best-selling pre-workout brand that’s available in over 10,000 stores worldwide.

Plenty Of Other Bucked Up Products Available Too: Don’t forget that Bucked Up Energy now offers more than 10 quenching options, but several of their popular flavors include Rocket Pop, Gym ‘N’ Juice, Mango Tango and Pink Lemonade now include low-stim options.

Low-stim has the same innovative ingredients that make their OG formula so powerful for focus, mood, motivation and energy. Bucked Up made just one small change and they have been surprised by the resulting epicness.

Boasting a modest of 100mg of caffeine, Bucked Up Low-Stim delivers the same energy, focus, mood, motivation – while reducing the common side effects that come from too-much caffeine, jitters, sleeplessness and anxiety.

Stay Tuned: For next weekend’s season finale at Phoenix (Ariz.) Raceway, Joe Graf Jr. and SS GreenLight Racing with Jeff Lefcourt will showcase a new partner for the 200-lap event.

The new partner will utilize the Xfinity Series Championship Race to debut their product to the NASCAR community on November 5, 2022.

After qualifying a solid 17th last Friday afternoon, Graf maintained a solid pace but with the track conditions constantly changing and the lack of yellow flags, it left little opportunity for the SS GreenLight Racing with Jeff Lefcourt team to make the necessary adjustments to vault back into the top-20.

However, a late race caution proved to be beneficial as Graf utilized the final restart of the race to his advantage climbing from 27th to 24th at the checkered flag.

Sneaker Mania: Along with the adrenaline of the Motorsports competition, Joe Graf Jr. also has a vogue for hype sneakers. In his current collection, he owns and wears at least 90 limited edition sneakers – and his collection continues to grow every month.

From the Pit Box: Industry veteran Joe Williams is Joe Graf Jr.’s crew chief.

He will crew chief his 97th NASCAR Xfinity Series race as crew chief on Saturday afternoon and his fifth at the famed paperclip race track.

In his previous 96 NASCAR Xfinity Series starts, he has collected one win (Auto Club Speedway | February 2022), seven top-five and 21 top-10 finishes.

Hello From The Other Side: Graf Jr. has a teammate at SS GreenLight Racing with Jeff Lefcourt. Veteran Brandon Brown will drive the No. 08 Solid Rock Carriers Ford Mustang on Saturday afternoon for his 30th start of the 2022 season.

Brown is set to make his 149th career Xfinity Series start overall and fifth at Martinsville. His best Xfinity Martinsville track finish occurred in the 2020 Draft Top 250, where he finished 18th after starting 12th for his family-owned Brandonbilt Motorsports team.

    Joe Graf Jr. Pre-Race Quote:

On Martinsville Speedway: “It’s hard to imagine that there are just two NASCAR Xfinity Series races left this season. It seems like just yesterday we were all preparing to go to Daytona in February.

“I like Martinsville. It’s one of my favorite short tracks. It is a very demanding race track and certainly one that relies on rhythm and hitting your marks every lap. If you don’t drive the track exactly how you are supposed to, it can make for a long race.

“Our simulator session went very well this week and I feel like we will continue to showcase the speed that we have over the last couple of months in practice and qualifying on Friday.

“Our No. 07 Bucked Up Pump N’ Grind Ford Mustang looks excellent with the Halloween scheme and I’m hoping we are able to spook some of the competition and duplicate our top-15 finish from last October.”

    Race Information:

The Dead On Tools 250 (250 laps | 131.5 miles) is the 32nd of 33 NASCAR Xfinity Series races on the 2022 schedule. Riley Herbst Notes of Interest

    • Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway marks the penultimate race of the season, and even before the green flag waves, Riley Herbst can already call 2022 a career year. With a gritty, eighth-place finish last Saturday at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Herbst scored his 18th top-10 of the season, surpassing his previous season-best tally of 17 top-10s earned during his rookie year in 2020. Earlier this summer, the driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing bested his top-five total too. With a third-place drive June 25 at Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway, Herbst equaled his career best of five top-fives in a season, and he currently stands at seven top-fives after back-to-back fifth-place runs at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway Sept. 16 and Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth on Sept. 24. Herbst’s third-place run at Nashville also equaled his best finish this season, originally earned May 7 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway. At the final two racetracks of 2022 – this weekend at Martinsville and Nov. 5 at Phoenix Raceway – Herbst has posted two top-fives and six top-10s in 10 collective Xfinity Series starts.

    • The Martinsville 250 will be Herbst’s fifth career Xfinity Series start at the .526-mile oval. In his four prior starts at the southern Virginia short track, Herbst has only one finish outside the top-10. His best finish is sixth, earned twice – in the series’ most recent visit to the track in April and in his first visit to the facility in October 2020.

    • Herbst’s history on short tracks has been strong. He has finished sixth or better in all three of his 2022 short-track starts. After finishing an impressive sixth in his first career start in June 2018 at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Herbst has gone on to earn 10 other top-10s on short tracks, including in his last six short-track starts – fifth September 2021 at Richmond (Va.) Raceway, third the following weekend at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway, 10th last October at Martinsville, fifth April 2 at Richmond, sixth April 8 at Martinsville, and fifth Sept. 16 at Bristol.

Riley Herbst, Driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang

You’re coming off a strong top-10 run at Homestead, where you recovered from an early incident to earn your career-best 18th top-10 finish of the year. Talk about this season and what it means to grow as a team.

“To say I’m proud of this Monster Energy team is an understatement. I feel like we’ve been through a lot this year, but we’ve also grown. We’re consistently a top-10 team with the speed to compete for wins. There’s been some bad luck this year, but we’ve been fast. Last year, we had a whole separate task of learning each other and learning what I needed in a car. People are taking notice of our speed and success this year. Ideally, we cap it off with a win in these final two races.”

Martinsville has been one of your best tracks with three top-10s in four career Xfinity Series starts. What is it about the track, and short-track racing in general, that appeals to you?

“I’m excited to head back to Martinsville after our strong run in the spring. We’ve also been super strong on short tracks this season, which helps with my confidence. I think these tracks are good for a lot of the drivers in NASCAR because it’s like the short tracks we grew up racing on. It’s what we’re all used to. There’s a lot of strategy that goes into short tracks, from pit stops to just the racing, in general. We have to qualify well to be able to race for wins, though, and that’s what we’re working on. Our cars are fast, and we need to put it all together.”

What’s the goal heading into these last two races of the season?

“I’ve said from the beginning that we had to survive the first round of the playoffs and then we would be set. Unfortunately, we didn’t do that, but I knew the Round of 8 and the Championship 4 would be our best tracks on the schedule. While we struggled at Las Vegas, we rebounded for a top-10 run at Homestead. We have yet to finish outside the top-10 at a short track this season, and Phoenix has been one of my stronger tracks. It’s sad that we can’t race for a championship, but we’re still racing for wins. That goal has never changed.”

    Driver Quotes

“We have been really fast at Martinsville the couple of times I have raced here with this Accelerate Professional Talent Solutions team. The first race we were able to come back after being three laps down to finish fourth and we were in contention at the end of the spring race this year, so my confidence is high for this weekend. Our goal is simple: we need to go out and win to put ourselves into the Championship 4.”– Sam Mayer

“We know what lies ahead for us this weekend in Martinsville. We are in position to fight for a chance to make it to Phoenix and race for a championship, and that is all that you can ask for. Martinsville has been a strong track for us in the past, and hopefully that can come to fruition again on Saturday. I know that everyone on this No. 7 team is locked in and ready to go out there and do what we need to do to advance. I’m ready to get there and give it all we’ve got.” – Justin Allgaier

“Martinsville is a special place to me. Between winning the Late Model race here in 2019 and following that up with the Xfinity win in 2021, it’s a track that really suits what I’ve done my entire career. I’m really looking forward to getting back to short-track racing and hopefully we can put this Tire Pros Chevrolet into Victory Lane to get us ready for Phoenix.” – Josh Berry

“Martinsville is always fun and we have had a lot of success there. Winning last year’s race was wild and we pulled off the victory we had to have to race for the championship. Luke (Lambert, crew chief) and the Bass Pro Shops/TrueTimber/Black Rifle Coffee team have given me great cars this year and I am stoked to go to Martinsville and hopefully contend for the win again, though it’ll be a lot less stressful this time around since we’re already locked in.” – Noah Gragson

Howie DiSavino III Confident Ahead of Martinsville Speedway Return

MARTINSVILLE, Va: Preparing for his final NASCAR Xfinity Series start of the 2022 season with Alpha Prime Racing, Howie DiSavino III invades Martinsville (Va.) Speedway for Saturday afternoon’s Dead On Tools 250 looking for no tricks but plenty of treats.

The Chesterfield, Va. native returns to the famed Virginia short track determined to rebound from the spring race where an impressive outing was derailed by a mechanical failure.

Since April, the 21-year-old has had the 0.526-mile short track circled on his calendar as an opportunity to save his best performance for last.

“I’m super excited to get back to Martinsville Speedway this weekend,” said DiSavino. “It will be the first track in an Xfinity car that I have prior laps at and I think that will make a huge difference throughout the weekend.

“The Alpha Prime Racing team brought me a really fast Chevrolet Camaro earlier this year, unfortunately, we just had a situation that was beyond our control. Together, we are looking forward at the opportunity to return to Martinsville and finish what we started.”

In the penultimat Xfinity Series race of the season, DiSavino and the Mooresville, N.C.- based team welcome back the Travis Mills Foundation which will adorn its logos on the No. 45 Chevrolet Camaro in the highly-anticipated 250-lap race.

The Travis Mills Foundation supports recalibrated veterans and their families through various programs that help these heroic men and women overcome physical and emotional obstacles, strengthen their families, and provide well-deserved rest and relaxation.

The Foundation was established by U.S. Army SSG (Ret.) Travis Mills.

“Travis and his Foundation are the definitions of what it means to be American,” added DiSavino. “The love, care and inspiration they provide for our wounded soldiers trying to adjust to life back home is a true example of dedication to a cause.

“Being able to showcase the Travis Mills Foundation again might be one of the most special things I’ve done as a race car driver.”

In addition to the Travis Mills Foundation, DiSavino and his Alpha Prime team will also welcome back Richard Green Racing as a major associate partner for the 32nd race of the season.

A native of Enosburg Falls, Vermont, Green is a longtime supporter of the Northeast Racing scene and a friend of the DiSavino family. A former driver himself, Green has now hung up his helmet and focused on being a successful car owner at the famed Thunder Road Speedbowl in Barre, Vermont.

In addition to being a car owner, Green has been notorious for supporting other young drivers in their racing endeavors and will attend Saturday afternoon’s race along with family and friends to support the Chesterfield, Va. driver.

“Richard, Liz and their whole Thunder Road Speedbowl race team from Vermont were guests during the spring race,” explained DiSavino. “It felt like they were part of our family, so when the opportunity arose to continue the partnership for the fall race, we couldn’t wait to make it happen again!”

Since his last race at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway earlier this month, DiSavino can be found daily nestled in Mooresville, N.C.- either working thoroughly through his fitness program, his race preparation guideline or on the telephone with current and potential partners trying to increase his presence in the Xfinity Series in 2023.

His discipline to be able to multitask has given him the continued optimistic vibe that his hard work and relentless efforts will be rewarded not only this weekend but in the future.

“This is what I want to do and I’m going to do everything I can to stay competing in NASCAR for years and years to come,” added DiSavino. “I am a very focused and detailed person and even though I multitask throughout the day, my race preparation has never been more prominent.

“I have been spending countless hours of iRacing either by myself or with others while remaining very focused on my physical regimen to make sure when I climb in the car for practice and qualifying on Friday afternoon, I step up to the plate and continue the strong efforts of the No. 45 car at Martinsville.

“This is my last race of the year and with a little luck and a lot of determination, a top-15 finish should be within our reach.”

Veteran Cup spotter Clayton Hughes will guide DiSavino from above this weekend as his spotter.

Motor Speedway Road Course, Graf and the SSGLRwJL team showcased the No. 07 Bucked Up Pink Lemonade Energy Drink Ford Mustang in the final road course race of the season.

With an array of yellow flags in the closing laps of the race, Graf’s determination put him back on the lead but ran out of laps to recover for a finish better than his 27th-place outing.

On Homestead-Miami Speedway: “It’s a huge weekend for our team at Homestead-Miami Speedway. We have over 100 guests expected to be in attendance and I certainly want to go out and perform and deliver one of our strongest finishes of the season.

“I’m excited to also debut a new Bucked Up energy drink this weekend and I’m hoping as stout as it looks in person, it will be extremely fast on the race track.

“Homestead is one of those tracks that you have to hustle. You have to respect the track though otherwise; you can find yourself in trouble and out of the race.

“Hopefully, we can continue to unload with the raw speed we’ve shown over the past couple of months and build on that for qualifying and the race.

“With just three races left this season, I want to be as close to the front as possible.”

On Goals For Remainder of 2022: “There are about three weeks of racing left and we certainly want to make the best of it for everyone that supports our SS GreenLight Racing with Jeff Lefcourt team.

“Without question, I think it cannot be denied that our team has showcased speed throughout the season but we haven’t been able to execute on getting the finishes we think we deserved for a variety of reasons.

“The bigger picture is that we have continued to grow as a team and we have several race tracks over the couple of weeks that should allow us to have the opportunity to put our best foot forward.

“From now until the end of the season at Phoenix, I am determined to nail the execution so we can carry some momentum into the off-season and to the 2023 season.”
