    Riley Herbst Notes of Interest

    • Saturday’s Contender Boats 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway will serve as Riley Herbst’s fourth career NASCAR Xfinity Series start at the 1.5-mile oval. The driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing has been a model of consistency at the South Florida track with an average finish of 10th. In his two starts at Homestead in 2020, Herbst finished 10th and ninth, respectively. In last year’s race, a potential top-five run was derailed when contact with another car just past the race’s midpoint left Herbst with front-end damage. Nonetheless, Herbst rallied back to finish 11th.

    • While a win is always the goal for Herbst and the No. 98 Monster Energy team, another top-10 finish at Homestead would officially cement 2022 as a career year for the 23-year-old racer from Las Vegas. Herbst has scored 17 top-10s so far this year to tie his season-best top-10 tally, originally earned during his rookie season in 2020. A top-10 at Homestead would put Herbst over the top in this category, allowing him to claim season-highs in top-fives and top-10s, as Herbst long ago surpassed his single-season top-five mark. He has seven top-fives this year, two more than his previous high of five top-fives in 2021. Herbst’s best finish so far this season is third, earned twice – May 7 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway and June 25 at Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway.

    • As Herbst eyes a win at Homestead, Stewart-Haas Racing is looking to snare a third victory at the track. Cole Custer earned the first victory for the team in 2017 before scoring back-to-back second-place finishes in 2018 and 2019. Chase Briscoe won the Sunday race of the June 2020 weekend doubleheader after delivering a seventh-place drive the day before.

    • Prior to the Xfinity Series’ race last Saturday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Herbst used his hometown connections to score a training session with mixed martial artist and former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin at the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas. How’d Herbst do alongside the UFC Hall of Famer? Watch here.

Riley Herbst, Driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang

You’ve been strong at Homestead in each of your three previous Xfinity Series starts at the track, never finishing outside the top-11. What is it about Homestead that suits your driving style?

“I love Homestead. It’s such a fun racetrack to drive and I honestly enjoy it every time we go down to South Florida. You get to run the wall there, which is pretty cool. There’s a lot of tire fall-off, so you have to be aware of that while you’re racing. Last year, we got some damage halfway through the race, but we were still able to recover for an 11th-place finish. I think we can go back and run up front this weekend. We just have to stay focused and continue to work hard. This Monster Energy team never takes its foot off the gas and we’re going to show that our hard work pays off.”

Monster Energy has been a major supporter of yours since the beginning of your racing career. Talk about the partnership and what it means to have the brand’s support in everything you do.

“Monster Energy has become my family. They’ve been involved with me and my family for so long, and I’m so grateful to represent such an awesome brand. There are so many opportunities we get to experience because of their connections to so many athletes. Their reach is so wide, and everyone knows that iconic Monster claw logo. It’s an honor to be one of the few drivers who gets to wheel that classic, matte-black Monster Energy Ford Mustang every week. I want to thank them with a trip to victory lane.”

Last weekend, you had the opportunity to visit the UFC Performance Institute in your hometown of Las Vegas and train with mixed martial artist and former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin. Were you able to take anything from that training session that you can apply to your role as the driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang?

“First off, thank you to UFC for having me out last week. That was such a cool experience to get to train with Forrest Griffin and talk to him about his career. Honestly, I think you see that racecar drivers and fighters have to have a similar mentality when competing. A fighter has to stay calm and focused in the ring to beat their opponent, and I feel like we have to do the same in the racecar to not get yourself into trouble. If you panic, you’ll only make things worse.”

Josh Berry Returns to JR Motorsports’ No. 8 Chevrolet for 2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series Season

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Oct. 18, 2022) – Fresh off a victory at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and a berth in the NASCAR Xfinity Series Championship 4, Josh Berry will return to JR Motorsports as driver of the No. 8 Chevrolet Camaro for 2023, the team announced today.

The soon-to-be 32-year-old Tennessee native has won a career-high three races this season in the No. 8 car, posting victories at Dover Motor Speedway in April, at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May and on Saturday at Las Vegas. In 52 series starts with JR Motorsports, Berry has earned five victories, 17 top-five and 32 top-10 finishes, and claimed a spot in the NXS Playoffs in his first year of eligibility. With the Vegas win, Berry becomes the first of four drivers who will race for a coveted series title in the Championship 4 at Phoenix Raceway next month.

“We’ve been lucky to have Josh spend so much of his career with JR Motorsports. He’s been successful at every level for us,” said team owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. “He’s performed well and won races in our cars, and now he’s contending for NASCAR championships. He established our Late Model team as a championship-caliber program and is now contributing to our Xfinity program. And I couldn’t be more proud to have him back at JRM in 2023.”

Berry began with JR Motorsports in 2010, when he campaigned all across the Southeast with the team’s legacy Late Model team, earning 94 victories. Combined with his NXS victories, Berry is just one win shy of 100 career wins under the JRM banner.

He won at Martinsville Speedway in his sixth NXS start in 2021 and again at Las Vegas in the NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoffs as a substitute driver in the team’s No. 1 car. That win helped propel the No. 1 team into the Round of 8 in the NXS owner’s title battle, and Berry’s success earned him a full-time ride for 2022.

“JR Motorsports has always been my home as a racer, and I’m proud to return to JRM and the No. 8 team for 2023,” Berry said. “When I came here, it was as a Late Model driver and mechanic, and when I got the opportunity to race full-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, it was a dream come true. We’ll race for a series championship next month, and that’s nearly full-circle for me with the team. I can’t thank Dale, Kelley, LW and Mr. Hendrick enough for this opportunity.”

Berry has won three championships for the team, all in Late Models. He was the 2017 CARS Racing Tour driver champion, a year after earning the owner’s championship in the same series. In 2020, Berry earned the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series championship, the first for both himself and for JRM. He remains the only driver in JRM history to have earned multiple championships for the team.

Partners for Berry and the No. 8 team will be announced in the near future.

TY GIBBS, No. 54 Monster Energy Toyota GR Supra, Joe Gibbs Racing

    Finishing Position: 4th

Can you talk about some of the challenges you had to overcome in today’s race?

“I feel like we had a very fast Monster Energy Toyota GR Supra. Thank you to Norm at Interstate Batteries and everybody on my 54 crew. I feel like we were really fast, just didn’t get there at the end. We were a little tight there at the end and that hurt us. First stage, we fired off really good and the second stage, we were decent. We sucked on restarts and that was where people capitalized today with track position and dirty air was very big. I feel like that was the spot we were not as good at as we needed to be to contend for the win, but I feel like we were capable of it, just needed to be in better lines on restarts. I don’t feel like it was because I spun the tires, but there were still people getting runs. We were three-wide at one point, but people were getting runs on the top, so it was possible to move forward.”

What is your outlook going into the next couple of weeks?

“Just race hard and go get a win. Wins take care of this whole situation. If we win, it doesn’t matter when we get to Martinsville, and we can go out there and run last. I’d rather win though.”

TREVOR BAYNE, No. 18 Devotion Nutrition Toyota GR Supra, Joe Gibbs Racing

    Finishing Position: 7th

How are you feeling after having a bit of a moment after you got out of the race car?

“I’m okay. We were talking and after I got done talking, I started to feel out of breath and I’m like, ‘Parker (Kligerman, NBC), you’re getting too close here.’ When I got out of the car, my left ear was ringing, and I knocked one of the crush panels out so I don’t know if I got gassed. All I can say is I guess I was trying as hard as I could there.”

How would you sum up your race today?

“I think it’s been as eventful now as it could ever possibly be. I spun out, got a pit road penalty and drove back to fifth. What I was saying right there when I started feeling light-headed is that when I got to fifth, I felt like I moved the top up better than anybody. You have that grey strip at the top and once the 9 (Noah Gragson) got behind me, he moved up to where I was running it in and my car just got tight as I was taking rubber. The only way I could get it to turn, ironically after spinning out from being loose was to find grey race track and at the end, it just got too rubbered up and I got too tight. In the end, a fifth place finish is good, but my opportunities are winding down here and I’ve got one left at Homestead and I feel like we’ll be good there, but I want to win one of these things so bad. You can’t run the 18 car with Jason Ratcliff (crew chief) and not win, but I feel like we’ve got the speed and Jason’s doing a great job. We just have to get off pit road. That’s been our Achilles heel all year. Probably cost us four races. The guys have good stops when they’re good. We just have some mistakes we have to clean up and today it was somebody falling over the wall. What do you do? You just have to come back and race hard. Thankful to Devotion for giving me this opportunity this year and I’ll try not to ever pass out again.”

BRANDON JONES, No. 19 Menards/NIBCO Toyota GR Supra, Joe Gibbs Racing

    Finishing Position: 9th

You led five laps today, so we know that the No. 19 car could run up front. Why didn’t you finish up there?

“At times we had speed that was as fast as speed as Xfinity internet, but it wasn’t consistent to complete out the day. Yesterday, in practice, there was so many different conditions. I felt like we weren’t that great going into qualifying – we didn’t think we had a great balance after our qualifying lap. It was a much different day with much different weather conditions and sun beating on the track. We took off really well those first two stages, and probably would have run fifth-to-sixth today given the balance and how hard it was to make passes. A lot of guys were making that top work, but I think the guys that could drive through the bump in turn one or could drive the fence ended up being pretty good today. I’ve watched this race so many times go to the top, but it always goes to the bottom for the win, and I think today was maybe a little bit of the opposite. The 8 (Josh Berry) and the 9 (Noah Gragson) cars were really good at getting up against the wall and making good lap time. I know Jeremy (Clements) didn’t mean to take the air off of us, but ultimately, that is what kind of killed our day. We were probably going to finish inside the top-five. I like Jeremy a lot and I will go have a talk with him and we move forward. We’ve got another good mile-and-a-half and a short track coming up for us.”

Myatt Snider – No. 31 Tax Slayer Chevrolet Camaro SS Preview- Las Vegas Motor Speedway

    News and Notes:

    • Practice; After the completion of technical inspection teams would take to the 1.5-mile Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS) for a 20-minute practice session on Friday afternoon. Running 14 laps during his practice session, Myatt Snider would record a fastest lap of 31.425 at 171.838 mph on Lap-4 ranking him 27th fastest of the 38 cars entered for the NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) Alsco Uniforms 302 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

    – Starting Position; Directly after the 20-minute practice session teams would move into single-lap qualifying to determine the starting order for Saturday’s Alsco Uniforms 302. Rolling off 23rd to make his qualifying effort Snider would come to pit lane to cool his engine as the No. 98 during his qualifying lap ahead of Snider would spin on the racetrack bringing out the caution. Once getting up to speed two competitors later Snider would record a lap of 30.886 at 174.836 placing the No. 31 TaxSlayer Chevrolet Camaro in the 23rd position.

    – Las Vegas Motor Stats; Saturday’s NXS Alsco Uniforms 302 will mark Snider’s sixth start at LVMS in NXS competition. In his debut at LVMS in the Spring of 2020, Snider would start in the first position based on the qualifying matrix and would run in the Top-Ten the entire day until getting spun by the No. 9 towards the end of the second stage. Snider would regroup to salvage a 16thplace finish at the conclusion. In the fall of 2020, running for a different team Snider would start in the 32nd spot based on the qualifying matrix and would fight an ill handling car all day and would continue to make change after change. At the end of the 200-laps, Snider would score a Top-20 finish with 19th place.

The Spring of 2021, would see Snider once again start in the first position, but a mid-race stack up entering pit road would cause enough damage the front end of Snider’s car he would have to limp it around the remainder of the race to finish nine laps down in the 32nd spot. The Fall race would see Snider start in the 12th position work his way up to the eighth position in the final stage. Running the high line to gain ground Snider would make slight contact with the wall and would get out of shape finishing in the 15th position at the conclusion of the 200-lap race.

Earlier this year Snider would be required to run the same car the Jordan Anderson Racing (JAR) Bommarito Autosport team fielded the week prior at Auto Club Speedway that was damaged with a late race flat tire. After extensive repairs during the week things were just not quite the same. Starting in the 34th position Snider would salvage a 21st place finish. In five previous starts at LVMS, Snider holds an average finish of 20.6 with a best of 15th coming in the fall of 2021.

Last Fall, JAR Bommarito Autosport would make its debut in the NXS at LVMS fielding the No. 31 for Ty Dillon. Starting in the 28th position, Dillon would quickly make his way thru the field to lead the first ever laps (17) in JAR Bommarito Autosport Xfinity Series history. A late race pit stop error would put Dillon back on the restart and would run out of laps enroute to a eighth place finish.

    Riley Herbst Notes of Interest

    • NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Riley Herbst is heading home. The Alsco Uniforms 302 NASCAR Xfinity Series race Saturday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is a hometown race for the 23-year-old racer as Herbst is a Las Vegas native, having grown up in the Entertainment Capital of the World. The Herbst name is well known in Vegas’ motorsports circles. Riley’s grandfather Jerry, uncles Tim and Ed, and father Troy, are all Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame inductees as championship-winning off-road racers. Now, the younger Herbst intends to keep the family’s motorsports legacy going in the NASCAR world behind the wheel of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR).

    • The Alsco Uniforms 302 will mark Herbst’s seventh career Xfinity Series start at Las Vegas. He has two top-10 finishes at the track – a pair of ninth-place drives in September 2019 and February 2020. If Herbst scores another top-10 at Las Vegas in Saturday’s Alsco Uniforms 302, he will record his 18th top-10 of 2022, which would be a career high. His 17 top-10s have already equaled his season high, first earned in 2020 when he was an Xfinity Series rookie.

    • As Herbst seeks victory lane at Las Vegas, his Monster Energy team already knows the way. The No. 98 team swept both races in 2020 via Chase Briscoe. In February, he beat Austin Cindric by 2.874 seconds. Briscoe then defended that victory with another win just seven months later, beating Noah Gragson by 1.370 seconds.

    • Prior to Saturday’s race, Herbst will stop at the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Performance Institute in Las Vegas where he’ll join a training session led by former UFC champion Forrest Griffin. It’s the start of a full sports weekend for Herbst. After Saturday’s Xfinity Series race, UFC Fight Night will be held at the UFC Apex, where the night’s main fight card features Alexa Grasso and Viviane Araujo at 7 p.m. PDT. It’s just latest collaboration of hometown sports for Herbst. Before the September 2021 Xfinity Series race at Las Vegas, Herbst threw out the first pitch for a Thursday-night game of the Las Vegas Aviators, the Triple-A affiliate of Major League Baseball’s Oakland Athletics. This past March, Herbst cranked the siren and hyped up the crowd at T-Mobile Arena prior to the puck dropping on the Las Vegas Golden Knights’ matchup against the Boston Bruins.

Riley Herbst, Driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang

While you may not be racing for a championship, you still have four races left in the season. What is your mindset heading into these last few races?

“It’s disappointing to be knocked out of the playoffs, there’s no doubt about that. We did everything we could last weekend and were in a good spot to advance when we got into some trouble. With that said, you can’t dwell on the past. There are still four races left this season and four races to perform. This season has been one of growth and improvement, as both a team and driver. I think we can continue to show the field that this Monster Energy team is here to race and win.”

Your background is a little different than most of your competitors. While you come from a racing family, the Herbst name is well-known in off-road racing rather than on the NASCAR circuit. Talk about that transition from off-road racing to NASCAR, and if anything can be transferred between the two.

“I knew when I was young that I wanted to make racing a career. With my background, I loved off-road racing and that’s where I got started. But when I was 9, my dad sat me down and asked if this was what I really wanted to do. To be honest, off-road racing is an expensive hobby and hard to make a career out of, so I knew I had to seek out a different form of motorsports, and that’s when I turned my sights on NASCAR. The racing mindset exists across all motorsports, so there’s stuff that can cross over, but ultimately, they are so different.”

We’re heading to your hometown of Las Vegas, where the UFC headquarters is located. You’ll visit its facilities on Friday to meet some of the fighters and go through a workout. How excited are you?

“First off, I’m excited to be heading home, in general. To add the element of getting a training session with UFC legend Forrest Griffin is an added bonus. It’ll be cool to see how the fighters prepare for their matches versus how I train for a race. I’ve been working on my fitness training this year, so we’ll see if I can keep up with these superstar athletes. In addition, I’m just always excited to collaborate with different sports in Vegas. I’m an avid sports fan, so these experiences are genuinely just cool for me.”

Justin Allgaier, BRANDT to Return for 2023 Xfinity Series Campaign

JRM’s Second-Longest Partnership Set for Eighth Season

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Oct. 13, 2022) – JR Motorsports today announced that BRANDT Professional Agriculture, one of the organization’s cornerstone partners, will return for its eighth season with driver Justin Allgaier. As JRM’s second longest-tenured sponsor, BRANDT will assume its role as the primary partner for Allgaier and the No. 7 team for 20 events during the 2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series season and receive associate placement for the remaining races.

“It’s an honor for us to continue this partnership alongside Rick (Brandt) and everyone at BRANDT Professional Agriculture,” said JR Motorsports CEO Kelley Earnhardt Miller. “BRANDT and Justin have become synonymous with performance and success, and Rick’s enthusiasm for this program is unmatched. Year after year the No. 7 team remains one of the strongest competitors in the garage.”

Founded in central Illinois, BRANDT is a fast-growing, family-owned company and a leader in global agriculture. Specializing in innovative products and services to help growers get maximum crop yield, BRANDT supplies customers in 49 states and more than 80 countries.

“On behalf of Team BRANDT, we are thrilled to extend our partnership with Justin and JR Motorsports,” said Rick Brandt, President and CEO of BRANDT. “Our philosophy is to win in the field and to dominate on the track: JRM and Justin give us the tools to do that. Let’s finish 2022 strong, go get that championship, and be ready for a great 2023!”

BRANDT has a long-standing presence in NASCAR, having first partnered with Allgaier in 2011. The pairing joined JRM for the 2016 NXS season, and Allgaier has been a consistent title contender, advancing to the Championship 4 in four of the last six seasons and finishing a career-best second in the final standings in 2020.

This season the 36-year-old native of Riverton, Ill. extended his title as the winningest driver in team history, adding three victories to bring his overall total to 19. Allgaier has tallied 16 of those wins from behind the wheel of a JRM Chevrolet and has won at least two races in five of the last seven seasons, including a career-high five victories in 2018.

“It’s great to return to JRM next season and to continue our partnership with BRANDT Professional Agriculture,” said Allgaier, who qualified for the NXS Playoffs for the seventh consecutive time in 2022. “Our relationship has continued to grow and expand and I am extremely proud of everything that we have accomplished together. They have become a family to me. The same way that JRM has over the last seven years. I’m honored to have the opportunity to continue to drive this No. 7 Chevrolet for Dale (Earnhardt Jr.) and Kelley and compete for race wins and championships year after year. The goals have remained the same for us, and we feel confident that they will come to fruition.”

Along with the No. 7 team, BRANDT expanded its partnership with JRM in 2021-22, as the company sponsored additional NXS races with the team’s No. 88 Chevrolet for seven-time Porsche Carrera Cup Brasil Champion and BRANDT do Brasil driver Miguel Paludo.

Following last weekend’s strong fifth-place finish at the Charlotte Roval, Allgaier has advanced into the Round of 8 in the NXS Playoffs for the sixth consecutive season. The JRM driver currently sits as the fourth seed, 11 points above the playoff cutline with three races remaining in the round.

The Round of 8 gets underway at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. EST on NBC, PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90.
