    Driver Quotes

“Taylor (Moyer, crew chief) and this entire Accelerate Professional Talent Solutions team have put together really fast cars the last few weeks and especially at these speedway races. We’ve run towards the front in almost all of them and if we can stay out of the mess this weekend, there’s no reason we can’t fight for the first win of the season for this team. I can’t wait to see what this No. 1 can do.” – Sam Mayer

“JR Motorsports has always brought extremely strong Chevrolets to the superspeedways of Daytona and Talladega and I see no reason why that won’t be the case again this weekend. Last week Watkins Glen didn’t go how we hoped it would, so I can’t think of a better place to go to than Daytona with our hellowater Camaro to get that momentum back in the right direction, especially as the playoffs get closer. Hopefully we can keep our car in one piece all night long and work well with our JRM teammates to be in contention for the win. We’re ready to go.” – Justin Allgaier

“Daytona is the track we go to where we know all four of these JRM cars are going to have a lot of speed. I know Bummy (Mike Bumgarner, crew chief) and the team have been working really hard to make sure we have that same speed this weekend and I know that we will when we qualify Friday afternoon. Hopefully we can stay clean and be contending for the win at the end of the day with this Tire Pros team.” – Josh Berry

“We have been really consistent this season, and have had really good runs at both Daytona and Talladega. I’m really looking forward to getting back to Daytona. We led the race in the spring and were in contention all day long. That’s what it’s going to take for this Bass Pro Shops/TrueTimber® Camo/Black Rifle Coffee Chevrolet to get back in Victory Lane. Luke (Lambert, crew chief) and this team have been building great cars all season long.” – Noah Gragson

  • Keen Parts Partners with The Laughlin Family Foundation to Help Raise Awareness and Support Rare Cancers

Keen Parts Partners with The Laughlin Family Foundation to Help Raise Awareness and Support Rare Cancers

MOORESVILLE, N.C(August 22nd, 2022)Keen Parts / CorvetteParts.net, NASCAR Driver Ryan Ellis, and Alpha Prime Racing are proud to announce today that Keen Parts / CorvetteParts.net will be utilizing their sponsorship of the No.44 Chevy to support the Laughlin Family Foundation, which raises money to help those affected by rare cancer through education, awareness, and research.  This fundraising campaign will run through the NASCAR Xfinity Series Race, the Food City 300, at Bristol Motor Speedway on Friday, September 16th, 2022. The No.44 CorvetteParts.net / Keen Parts team will also be running a pink, white, and lavender color scheme at the race – the lavender color representing all of those affected by cancer, and as a tribute to The Laughlin Family Foundation.

During the duration of the campaign, fans who donate $100.00 or more will be able to get their name, or name of choice, on Ellis’ No.44 CorvetteParts.net Chevy as part of their “300 Laps Against Cancer” campaign – 300 names will be available, representative of the 300 laps of the race. Names will be spread from the trunk of the racecar down the side, integrated into the scheme. Fans can also show their support by recognizing someone who has been affected by cancer through the $100.00 donation. The deadline for name purchasing/submission is September 7th. Special event crew shirts will also be available for preorder for $75 beginning Monday, August 22nd until Friday, August 26th.  Donations and crew shirt pre-orders can be made here: https://www.thelaughlinfamilyfoundation.org. In addition, VIP pit passes for the September 16th race will be available for auction, as well as other one-of-a-kind sports memorabilia.

Limited corporate/individual on-car sponsorships are also available through donations starting at $2500 – please email courtney@thelaughlinfoundation.org or ryanellisracing@gmail.com to inquire about pricing/locations. All proceeds will benefit The Laughlin Family Foundation’s fight against rare cancers.

As part of this initiative, Keen Parts is also a proud sponsor of the 2nd Annual Laughlin Family Foundation Celebrity Golf Tournament on Monday, September 12th, 2022 at the Crofton Country Club in Crofton, Md. Two VIP pit passes to the September 16th race with meet and greets with Ellis and Craig Laughlin, as well as a sponsorship on Ellis’ CorvetteParts.net racecar will be available for auction exclusively at this event. Ellis will also be participating as a celebrity golfer at the tournament.

This will be the second year in a row that Tom and TJ Keen have chosen to raise money for the Laughlin Family Foundation. Last year, they raised over $20,000, which was split between the Laughlin Family Foundation and Susan G Komen. They’re hoping to raise over $100,000 this year.

CorvetteParts.net, a family-owned business owned by Tom and TJ Keen, sells parts and accessories for Corvette-lovers of all generations. They have been loyal NASCAR sponsors and friends of many within the industry since 2011, supporting drivers of all levels since then. The Keen’s elected to donate much of their sponsorship space to these foundations to raise money for these great causes. Just a few weeks ago, the Keen’s ran a special Autism Awareness / Autism Acceptance scheme at Michigan International Speedway with a colorful hand-drawn car, created by the family of former NHL Player Chris Thorburn and his wife Sara. Their three children, Bennett, Mary, and Oscar, sketched out the car’s design at home.

The Laughlin Family Foundation’s mission is to help spread awareness, education, and research for rare cancers. Craig Laughlin, former NHL player, and current NBC Sports Washington analyst, started the foundation when his wife Linda was diagnosed with a rare gynecological cancer in 2018. To date, the foundation has raised over $300,000 and awarded Johns Hopkins School Of Medicine a $100,000 grant in 2021, which funded the first-ever endometrial cancer symposium. This symposium brought together many of the best health experts and doctors in the world to educate the community, doctors, nurses, and patient advocates on the best practices and treatment options for endometrial cancers, with a goal to help save women’s lives.

“I’m really excited that we are doing this event together again this year. It’s so great that Tom and TJ Keen have chosen to help raise money and awareness with their sponsorship. We had a lot of working together last year and we raised a lot of money with a short turnaround. Now that we have a little more time to get creative with the fundraising, and the ability to combine our race’s efforts with the golf event, we’re hoping we can raise even more money for this great cause,” said Ellis, driver of the No.44 Keen Parts Chevy.

“Tom and I are honored to be a small part of the Laughlin Family Foundation’s mission to bring awareness once again to a disease that is devastating to families everywhere,” said TJ Keen. “We hope that this race week is successful in raising money to help however we can for the fight against cancer.”

“We are thrilled that Tom and TJ  Keen at CorvetteParts.net and Ryan Ellis chose to collaborate with us for a second year in a row to help support and raise awareness for rare cancers. Last year was a great success as we raised over $20,000, and we hope to build on that in 2022. All rare cancer diagnoses combined account for 40% of cancer deaths in the United States, so we are grateful and honored to work with Tom, TJ,  and Ryan again to help create awareness and save the lives of those affected by rare cancers,” said Craig Laughlin of The Laughlin Family Foundation.

Tune in information: The Keen Parts’ special Laughlin Family Foundation No.44 Chevy scheme will make its on-track debut at 2:35pm ET on Friday, September 16th for a short practice session. Two-lap qualifying follows practice at 3:10pm ET leading into Friday night’s Food City 300, with coverage beginning at 7:30 pm ET on FS1. Stay tuned to Ryan’s and Keen Parts’ social media for giveaways and more information!

  • Kyle Larson’s late-race luck earns him Xfinity Series win at Watkins Glen

Kyle Larson’s late-race luck earns him Xfinity Series win at Watkins Glen

    August 20th, 2022
    By HOLLY CAIN
    NASCAR Wire Service

In the moments after claiming the checkered flag for the Sunoco Go Rewards 200 at the Glen Saturday afternoon, Kyle Larson smiled and conceded he was a bit fortunate.

“I got lucky,’’ he told the USA Network television audience.

Or perhaps more accurately, he was in the right place at the right time. Running third on a restart with five laps remaining in the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at historic Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International, he shot to the front when his Hendrick Motorsports teammate – and race polesitter – William Byron and Joe Gibbs Racing’s Ty Gibbs spun out at the front of the field while dicing it up for the race lead.

Byron, who set a track record in qualifying earlier in the day and led a race best 36 of the 82 laps, and Gibbs, who led the second most laps (25) collided in a door-to-door battle in the famed “bus stop” portion of the 3.366-mile road course. And Larson bolted through to take the lead.

Still, the reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion had to hold off the sport’s all-time best on road courses, A.J. Allmendinger in the remaining laps to claim the day’s trophy – ultimately taking his 11th series win by a slight .273-seconds in the No. 88 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet.

“I think my only shot was if the 17 and 54 – Willy and Ty got really racing,’’ conceded Larson, who spent much of the race just behind his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Byron and Gibbs.

“The seas parted and I was able to get through but then I had A.J. (Allmendinger) behind me so just trying to hit my marks best I could. He definitely made me nervous with me being out in front of him.

“So cool to get a win here and Rick Hendrick is here too. Wish William and I could have fought for the win there though.’’

Rookie Sammy Smith, an 18-year old from Iowa in only his fourth NASCAR Xfinity Series start finished a career best third place in the No. 18 JGR Toyota and led an impressive – also career high – seven laps midway through the race.

JR Motorsports’ driver Noah Gragson finished fourth, followed by Kaz Grala. Sam Mayer, Riley Herbst, Sheldon Creed, who was the highest finishing rookie, Josh Berry and Jeremy Clements rounded out the top 10.

Byron and Gibbs, who had contact again farther back in the field during the final laps, ultimately finished 25th and 27th, respectively.

On the cool down lap after the race Byron told his crew, “Sorry guys, I wish we could have won that one. We were in position and got wrecked.’’

Allmendinger’s runner-up showing, combined with Gibbs rough day and an early exit by Justin Allgaier – who wrecked only four laps into the race – really boosted Allmendinger’s lead atop the Xfinity Series standings. With four races remaining to set the 12-driver 2022 Playoff field, he now holds a 61-point advantage over five-race winner Gibbs and is 70-points up on fellow three-race winner Allgaier.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series returns to action next week at Daytona International Speedway with the WaWa 250 Powered by Coca-Cola on Friday (7:30 p.m. ET, USA Network, MRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio). Kaulig Racing’s Justin Haley is the defending race winner.

    Riley Herbst Notes of Interest

    • The boys are back in town. After a rare off-weekend, the NASCAR Xfinity Series is back in action this Saturday at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International. Riley Herbst, driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR), expects to maintain his front-running ways despite the break. Herbst finished sixth in his last road-course race July 30 on the infield layout inside Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He then delivered a solid ninth-place result the following weekend on the ultra-fast, 2-mile oval that is Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn. It was Herbst’s 14th top-10 in the 21 races run this season, eclipsing his top-10 mark from all of last year with 12 races still remaining in 2022.

    • When it comes to road-course racing this year, Herbst has proven resilient, bouncing back from two tough runs at the start of the year to nab top-10 finishes in his last two road-course starts. Herbst finished 26th March 16 at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, and then 35th June 4 at Portland (Ore.) International Raceway. But in the next road-course race July 2 at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, Herbst dusted himself off to earn a fine seventh-place effort before securing another top-10 in the series’ most recent road-course race at Indianapolis.

    • Herbst had to work for his sixth-place finish at Indianapolis. He qualified an impressive third and stayed among the top-five through the first stage. He restarted in third for the second stage, and while battling for position, was spun on lap 25 after contact with the No. 8 machine of driver Josh Berry. This sent Herbst to the back of the back, but the 23-year-old racer put on a tenacious display of driving, powering his way through the field in the race’s final 37 laps to finish sixth, his best result in 15 career road-course starts.

    • The 2022 season is shaping up to be Herbst’s best in the Xfinity Series. Two-thirds of the way through his third fulltime season, he has equaled or bettered his best finishes at nine tracks on the schedule. In fact, he has already matched his season-best tally of five top-five finishes, set in 2021. In total, Herbst has 14 top-fives and 48 top-10s dating back to his first career Xfinity Series start on June 17, 2018, at Iowa Speedway in Newton, where he finished an impressive sixth as a 19-year-old.

    • The Watkins Glen 200 will mark Herbst’s 98th career Xfinity Series start and his second at Watkins Glen. He earned a 13th-place result in his first start at the 2.45-mile, seven-turn road course last August.

    • Herbst has two starts outside of the Xfinity Series at Watkins Glen. He pulled double duty last year at the track, finishing sixth in the ARCA Menards Series race on Friday before competing in the Xfinity Series race on Saturday. In addition, he has one start at The Glen in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, netting a 12th-place finish in 2019.

    • With only five races remaining before the playoffs begin Sept. 24 at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Herbst is solidly among the 12-driver playoff field. He is currently ninth in the driver standings with 583 points, 136 ahead of Sheldon Creed, the first driver below the playoff cutoff line. A win at The Glen would clinch a playoff spot for Herbst, but he can also secure his playoff position by pointing his way into the post-season with more top-10 finishes through the regular-season finale Sept. 16 at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway.

Riley Herbst, Driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang

What did you do during the off-weekend?

“I ended up going on a vacation with some friends for the off week, so I got a chance to relax for this final stretch to the playoffs. With that said, I was still at the shop working prior to that vacation. There’s always work to be done and we’re always trying to better ourselves. I’m glad that the guys got somewhat of a break and I think we’re refreshed and ready to go for some wins. This team deserves to be in victory lane and I hope we can get it done soon.”

You were strong in your last road-course race at Indianapolis. Does that give you added confidence this weekend at The Glen?

“Our Monster Energy Ford Mustang was fast at Indianapolis. It was a shame that we got spun at the start of the second stage. We had our work cut out for us, but we were able to battle back and get sixth. Obviously, we were encouraged by the speed we had to be able to do that, but we also were discouraged because we’re here to win. We thought we were strong enough to win, or at least run third. All in all, we were happy to show off the speed and people took notice of it.”

What’s been the key to finding that speed?

“We’re definitely more confident, both myself and the team. I’m going to tracks that I’ve been to several times now, which helps me, but we’re also putting in the work. We set goals for ourselves each week and improve. In the end, we have to do the small things right and keep building on the previous weekends. I think things are going well and we’re building in the right direction. People are noticing. I’m confident in my guys and my Monster Energy Ford Mustang, and I think that’s starting to show on the racetrack.”

Watkins Glen has always been a place that I have enjoyed going to and we have been really strong there over the last few years. Hopefully we can keep that going again this weekend and be in contention for the win when it counts. We’re ready to get there and see what we can do.” – Justin Allgaier

“Watkins Glen is one of a couple tracks on the schedule that I’ve never been to in these Xfinity cars, so we’ve been working really hard to make sure I am ready for this weekend. Having raced here in the trucks last year, I at least have some laps but these cars are so different. This Tire Pros team is ready and hopefully we can have anothergood run on a road course.” – Josh Berry

“Watkins Glen is fast for a road course, and we’ve been able to be in the top 10 in both our starts there with the Bass Pro Shops/TrueTimber/Black Rifle Coffee Chevrolet. I like road course racing, and Luke (Lambert, crew chief) and the team have given me great cars this year. We have been on a roll lately, and getting a win at Watkins Glen would be good for the playoff run.” –

    • Chevrolet Stage: JRM drivers Sam Mayer and Josh Berry will be at the Team Chevy display in the Watkins Glen International fan zone on Saturday, Aug. 20, from 1 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.
    • Souvenir Rig: JRM drivers Justin Allgaier and Noah Gragson will be signing autographs at the JR Motorsports/Hendrick Motorsports souvenir rig on Saturday, Aug. 20, starting at 12:15 p.m. “Racing on Saturday obviously gets you extra laps, but I also think getting into a rhythm with those laps in the Xfinity car really helps going to the Cup car. We had a really good weekend (doing double duty) at Road America with qualifying and the race. My goal with Xfinity is to get into a rhythm quickly, hopefully battle for the win on Saturday and have those additional laps benefit us on Sunday.” – Kyle Larson
