UNFORGETTABLE WEEKEND AHEAD FOR GORDON IN SONOMA

SONOMA, Calif. (June 21, 2011) – No matter the result of Sunday’s Toyota/Save Mart 350, this will be a memorable weekend for five-time Infineon Raceway winner Jeff Gorvette. Er, Jeff Gordon. Gordon, a native of Vallejo, Calif., has a busy weekend planned.

On Friday, he will practice and qualify the No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet at Infineon while also traveling the world as Jeff Gorvette — assisting buddies Lightning McQueen and Mater — in Disney- Pixar’s new release Cars2. On Saturday after practice, Gordon and family will celebrate daughter Ella’s birthday (she turned four years old on June 20). On Sunday, the all-time leader in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series road course victories will attempt to reach double-digit wins at Infineon and Watkins Glen International combined.

“There’s no doubt this is probably my favorite weekend of racing, regardless of what happens on the track,” said Gordon. “It’s just a magical time for me with my daughter’s birthday party, seeing my biological father and other family members, and seeing friends I went to elementary school with and raced with out here.

“It’s just a special weekend and it puts me in an incredibly positive frame of mind going into the race on Sunday.”

Along with five wins here, Gordon has five poles, 11 top-fives and 14 top-10’s in 18 starts. He has led 437 laps, which is 276 more laps than the nearest active competitor, Mark Martin. To put that in perspective, Martin could lead wire-to-wire in the next two events here and he would still trail Gordon by 56 laps in that category.

But the four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion has not led a lap here in four years, and the No. 24 team has worked hard to correct that.

“We’ve struggled on the road courses recently, and that’s not something we’re accustomed to,” said Gordon, who is 12th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point standings.

“It’s not something we like, so we tested at Mid-Ohio and have been working really hard to make improvements. “I’m hoping that test will get us closer to being more competitive this weekend.

“This is a very challenging track. On a road course, you typically want to attack the braking zones. Here, with the elevation changes and the off-cambered corners, you have to be very careful not to over-attack or drive too hard. “Hopefully we find the right balance with speed this weekend.”

But before Gordon battles the NASCAR Sprint Cup regulars in northern California on Sunday, Gorvette will race into theaters beginning Friday.

“My role is fairly small,” said Gorvette.

“Lightning McQueen and Mater and some of his buddies are in the movie, and I’m one of their new buddies. It’s an international spy thriller, so they go all over the world. “It was a blast.” A blast — like every race weekend at Infineon for Gordon.

    THE QUOTES

Ricky Stenhouse Jr., No. 6 RickyvsTrevor.com Ford Mustang: “Road America is a fun racetrack. I drove there last year and a couple years before that so I’m pretty familiar with the racetrack, which is a good thing. I felt like we had speed there last year but had a transmission problem. We’re looking for a good showing. It’s a fun race and a fun weekend.”

YOU GREW UP RACING ON SHORT TRACKS AND IN SPRINT CARS. HOW DIFFICULT WAS THE TRANSITION TO THE HEAVIER STOCK CARS AND THE ROAD COURSES? “It’s huge. Going from dirt to asphalt to heavier cars has been a huge learning experience for me. I’m still learning each and every time I go out on the track and then when you transfer that over to a road course where you’ve got all different types of corners and things you have to do, shifting and things like that, it throws another element in there. It’s a big learning experience.”

Mike Kelley, Crew Chief, No. 6 RickyvsTrevor.com Ford Mustang: “Road America is a really long course. It’s really weird. The driver takes off and you don’t see him again for a long time. It takes a lot of spotters. It’s a beautiful road course. It’s through the woods and it’s kind of like a fair atmosphere. It’s a short race, 50 laps, so you can’t get behind and the race, in laps, will be over before you know it.”

HOW DO YOU SET THE CAR UP AT ROAD AMERICA? “You go with a neutral setup. We go with something that’s comfortable for Ricky that he can get in and off the slow corners but not be too free on the high speed corners. He’s a decent road course racer. Our goal is to go there and maintain a good points day, not let anything crazy happen, make sure the race car stays on the track and the motor keeps running all day. I almost look at the road course races as a prevent defense. We’re going there to not lose points.”

    THE FACTS

Stenhouse Jr. leads the NASCAR Nationwide Series championship standings by two points over second-place Elliott Sadler and is four ahead of third-place Reed Sorenson. He leads fourth-place Justin Allgaier by 17 and fifth-place Aric Almirola by 54 points…This is the third time in 2011 that Stenhouse has led the series championship standings…His best finish in two previous road course races was 24th last year at Montreal…Has racked up four top-five finishes in the five races…Stenhouse has more top-10 finishes (11) and more bonus points (13) than any other NNS regular…Has led at least one lap in each of the last five consecutive races and 12 times in 10 races this season for 176 total laps…Average starting position for Stenhouse this season is 6.6 while his average finish is 9.9…Has completed 97.9 percent of total possible laps this season (2,839 of a possible 2,901).

TEAM CHEVY IN THE GARAGE AT INFINEON RACEWAY – PAT SUHY, GM RACING NASCAR GROUP MANAGER: “The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads west, to Infineon Raceway, for the first of two road course events on the Cup schedule this season. It’s always fun to watch the drivers muscle these big cars around the challenging 10-turn, 1.99-mile track.

“The turns are combinations of varying radii with significant elevation changes, which makes find an optimum chassis setup a study in tradeoff management for drivers and crew chiefs. Track position is everything here, since comfortable passing locations are few and far between. So there is normally a significant emphasis put on qualifying. A good qualifying run takes the immediate pressure off a crew chief to come up with a pit strategy to gain positions that way, and allows them to focus on staying in or near the lead while fine tuning the car to suit the driver and the track conditions.

“Road racing also means a lot of rowing through the gears and dependence on great brake systems that will go the distance. As we saw in Pocono, shifting even a time or two a lap can lead to failures, so it’s a safe bet that the transmission suppliers and transmission specialists will be losing sleep until this race is over. Brake packages are well-developed and will be similar to the packages seen at short tracks like Martinsville. With 10 turns in a 110-lap race at Infineon, the number of brake applications will be similar to what’s seen in a 500-lap race at Martinsville.

“Team Chevy drivers have collected 10 wins in 22 Sprint Cup races at Infineon Raceway, more than any other manufacturer. If things go as planned this weekend, there’s no reason to believe that we won’t be celebrating victory number 11 on Sunday afternoon.”

TEAM CHEVY FROM THE DRIVER’S SEAT AT INFINEON RACEWAY:

KEVIN HARVICK, NO. 29 BUDWEISER CHEVROLET – 2ND IN STANDINGS: “Oh, we definitely have a lot of friends and people that come to support us at the (Infineon) race track so it’s fun to see that. Road racing to me is a lot of fun. I think I ran my first race at Sonoma in the SouthWest Tour car in 1995. So it’s always fun to go back to a race track where you’ve had those experiences so early in your career. It’s a fun place to race and I really enjoy going out there. There’s really no where good to pass. That’s the problem. That’s why it becomes so rough, because (the track’s) so narrow and the small amount of areas where there are decent passing zones lead into really, really slow corners and that’s why you see as much contact as you do. It is way more like a short-track race than anywhere else and probably as rough a race as you’ll see anywhere on the circuit. The whole key is just getting the right track position at the end of the race. You have to fight all day to put yourself in position to be in those top couple of spots as the race comes down to the end. Sometimes it comes down to fuel mileage and sometimes it comes down to having the best handling car, but in the end track position will be key.”

DALE EARNHARDT JR., NO. 88 AMP ENERGY/NATIONAL GUARD CHEVROLET – 3RD IN STANDINGS: “We ran really good there last year and finished 11th. I like Sonoma but it’s tough. Steve (Letarte) and Jeff (Gordon), there is a lot of talent there on road courses to lean on. I’m pretty confident with the setup we’ve got for this weekend. I’ve got some of the best road course racers as teammates, so we should be pretty good.”

JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 LOWE’S/JIMMIE JOHNSON FOUNDATION CHEVROLET – 5TH IN STANDINGS: “I’m in the window that I want to be in (regarding his road racing skills). In my eyes, I am kind of on the bottom side of the window in the middle portion of it. We had a great race in Sonoma – at the Glen we had a flat tire early and I was able to carve my way through traffic and I think something else crazy happened. Running well I got turned around by 18 (Kyle Busch) or I can’t remember off of turn 11. Long story short, I’m very confident now on road courses and move forward and am a threat. I still think I can be better though. Still choose to run Grand Am races when it works and anything I can for that matter on a road course to get more experience. I didn’t work with anyone directly. The closest thing to working with someone would have been at the Grand Am races I have competed in and looking at the data from the other drivers who have been Mark Goossens when I drove for Riley – Butch Leitzinger if you go all the way back when I first drove a DP car. Elliott Forbes-Robinson and then most currently with John Fogarty and Alex Guerny. In that environment you can and with the other stuff it’s really just been laps and seat time. I’ve been to the Bondurant School to learn – we’ve tested like crazy and I’ve run some Nationwide races just all trying to get reps and trying to let me search around and see what I need to do.”

RYAN NEWMAN, NO. 39 HAAS AUTOMATION CHEVROLET – 8TH IN STANDINGS: “I’ve always said it’s much more physical going to the road courses inside the race car and I guess at times much more risk of having that driver control and not getting out of control and getting off the race track. Here, you get off the race track and you’re in the fence. There, you get off the race track and you’re in sand r you’re in the sticks, I guess you could say and that can totally change your day. Something as simple as getting a tire off course in qualifying can change your entire weekend. I look forward to going out there (Sonoma) – I love the challenge, I love the road course. To me, there’s two good passing zones and 11 corners so you’re falling behind on the guy in front of the guy in front of you in nine of the 11 if you don’t get around the guy in front of you. Keep up with me here. I like it, its fun to hustle the race cars. That’s what really as drivers we like.”

CLINT BOWYER, NO. 33 CHEERIOS/HAMBURGER HELPER CHEVROLET – 10TH IN STANDINGS: “Yeah, I won’t let them put a camera on my feet (while road racing) because it looks like I am break-dancing down there. I am out of control. You know it’s a lot of fun to do that and its very technical race track. A lot of fun, it really is with a lot of hills and blind corners and the dive bombs getting into the last corner over there and there are just so many things that go into getting a good finish there. Running good there is one thing, but getting a good finish there is a whole different ballgame.”

TONY STEWART, NO. 14 OFFICE DEPOT/MOBIL 1 CHEVROLET – 11TH IN STANDINGS: “I always like it (racing at Infineon). There is just something about Sonoma there that is awesome. It is a NASCAR weekend, but it gets us out of our box and it is almost half a vacation and half a race weekend for us. All the teams and the crew guys, the drivers, the girlfriends and wives, everybody has a good time out there. I enjoy it and I am proud of it (seven road course wins). It is nice. I have always taken a lot of pride in hopefully trying to be good at a lot of different things. A road course is definitely something different for sure. Even if is in a stock car so having seven wins on a road course is something I am pretty proud of.”

JEFF GORDON, NO. 24 DUPONT CHEVROLET – 12TH IN STANDINGS: “No matter what is happening for us on road courses, I love going out there (Sonoma) and this is certainly no exception. We’re going to go out a little bit early. We’re going to spend some time as a family with other family and friends that are out there. We’re going to be celebrating my daughter’s birthday, which we didn’t get a chance to do last year because Eva (wife) was pregnant and she didn’t travel to that race and neither did Ella (daughter). We’re looking forward to doing that again, which is always fun and exciting and motivating for me to go win the race just because of the party that my wife puts together. It still blows me away that I’m trying to figure out how we’re going to get her to 16. It’s a lot of fun regardless and it’s just a spectacular weekend. The wine country is beautiful; the race track is such a fun and challenging race track. You know, I’ll say this and I really mean it, I mean we have struggled on the road courses in recent years and it’s not something that we’ve been accustomed to and it’s not something we like, so we’ve been working really hard at making improvements there and we actually tested at a road course back East, Mid-Ohio, and I’m hoping that that test will definitely get us closer to where we need to be to be more competitive out in Sonoma. Just haven’t been able to get the balance right there and find the speed that we need, so hopefully we have that this time. It’s a very challenging race track. It’s one that you really struggle between being aggressive and being patient. On a road course, you typically really want to attack the breaking zones. But Sonoma, with the elevation changes and the off cambered turns, it’s one of those tracks where you have to be very careful at over attacking and you can drive it too hard. And plus setting up the car, there’s some fast sections as well as some very technical sections, so getting the car right for that track is extremely challenging as well as driving it.”

MARK MARTIN, NO. 5 FARMERS INSURANCE/GODADDDY. COM CHEVROLET – 14TH IN STANDINGS: “Road course races are taken more and more seriously every year. I mean, look at the race teams who have tested on a road course the past month or so? You can’t just say ‘It’s only two races, so we won’t concentrate on these.’ With how competitive this sport is, there are no races you can pay less attention to than any others. I remember when I started, no one took road course races seriously. There were only a handful of cars back then that were competitive on a road course. It’s just not that way today. Every team out there can win. It’s a tough, tough weekend. Infineon is a very demanding course and a demanding race. I think it’s difficult for all oval racers. I know, when I took a few years off from road course races, it was really hard for me to get back into it when I came back in 2009. It’s tough mentally, and it’s a tough adjustment to get used to these tracks again. Hendrick Motorsports has put a lot of emphasis on its road course program. I know I haven’t performed the way I wanted to the past couple of years in Sonoma and Watkins Glen, but I’m hoping that changes this week.”

JUAN PABLO MONTOYA, NO. 42 COTTONELLE CHEVROLET – 15TH IN STANDINGS: “It’s weird because we run really good at Watkins Glen and have struggled at Sonoma lately. To tell you the truth, I had my first win at Sonoma, so that’s always pretty encouraging. Just never had a really good car there. We can finish top-10, top-five pretty easy there, but I think last year at Watkins we learned a lot and made the car a lot better, so going into Sonoma it is going to be exciting. We know where to go with the Cottonelle Chevrolet and we are in a really good position right now, so a good finish is important.”

PAUL MENARD, NO. 27 DURACELL/MENARDS CHEVROLET – 16TH IN STANDINGS: “I feel pretty comfortable on a road course, but all these guys are so damn good; they’re all good on road courses. It’s no different than an oval race really. We’ll just put our best foot forward. And if things go good on Friday, that makes Saturday and Sunday a lot easier. Sonoma is a whole different animal. But we’ve got another top 10, another top five; and going to a road course next week is totally different. But I’m confident that we’ll have a good car out there and it’ll be a little bit of fuel mileage this week too.”

JEFF BURTON, NO. 31 CATERPILLAR CHEVROLET – 25TH IN STANDINGS: “I’m a driver who tries not to run into people. I do, from time to time, but I try not to. And I’ll bet you the last five or six races at Infineon I’ve gotten wrecked late in the race running top 10 and got wrecked by people who just didn’t care. It makes you want to just say you know what? I’m going to take care of myself and whoever gets wrecked gets wrecked. I don’t like to race like that and I’m certainly not saying I’m going to race like that, but it’s certainly tempting. I think it’s been ridiculous. I think that some of these wrecks have been just unbelievably ridiculous. So many cars are running the same speed that in order to pass somebody, you’re forced to get really aggressive and there’s only two places to pass. So in those two places you have to be aggressive. And then you get down close to the race and you start trying to protect your position and the guy behind you is trying to take the position and it just gets ugly. There’s been a lot of contact the last few years; a lot.

JAMIE MCMURRAY, NO. 1 MCDONALD’S CHEVROLET – 28TH IN STANDINGS: “I really like going to Sonoma. Infineon Raceway is one of my favorite places to race. I have had some really good cars there, I sat on the pole once and finished second there once in addition to leading some laps. I just feel really comfortable at that track, so that always makes it easier to go there with a good mind-set. I hope that we can build some momentum from our top-20 finish last weekend at Michigan and get solid finishes to our credit.”

REGAN SMITH, NO. 78 FURNITURE ROW CHEVROLET – 29TH IN STANDINGS: “I like the road course races, but I am not sure if the road circuits like me. The Sonoma race will be my fifth career start on a road course and I haven’t had that much success so far. But I know that will change, it’s a matter of getting more experience. We tested the Furniture Row Chevrolet at Virginia International Raceway road course last week and we were really pleased with the results. Now we have to transfer what we learned to this weekend’s race at Infineon Raceway. When you race on ovals nearly every week, this is a nice change of pace to make both left-and-right-hand turns. I really want to improve on the road circuits. Our next road race at Watkins Glen is the closest track to where I grew up in Cato, New York. You always want to do well for your hometown fans and family. Our expectations might not be high this weekend, but I am also hoping for a road-course breakthrough.”

“This is going to be my first trip to Road America and I’m excited to see what it has in store for our TaxSlayer team. I’ll be honest, road racing certainly isn’t my specialty. But I think it’s going to be a good learning experience for me. Plus, I’ve got one of the most talented road racers as a teammate in Ron Fellows. He’s a great guy, and he’s always willing to help out and share techniques with me.

“The three road races on our schedule could become game changers when it comes to the Nationwide Series championship. It may be a feast or famine type scenario with the Nationwide regulars. Most of us don’t have a lot of experience road racing, so it could get interesting. My goal is to start by keeping our TaxSlayer.com Chevrolet on the course. It sounds easy enough, but it can be extremely difficult. It’s important to get your braking done in a straight line before you enter the corner and be able to roll through the corners with enough speed. It’s easy to overdrive the corner and just as easy to underdrive it, too. It’s a delicate balance.”

    Ron Fellows

    No. 7 AER Manufacturing Chevrolet

“Road America is one of my favorite road courses. It’s long and fast, and great for racers. And the setting, in amongst lots of trees and rolling hills, is typical of a few great tracks built in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. Watkins Glen (International) and Mosport (International Raceway) come to mind as similar tracks.

“I have really enjoyed driving for JR Motorsports. It’s a privilege to be back with AER Manufacturing as well. They’ve been a phenomenal supporter of my racing over the years. There are great people on this 7 team and there has always been a strong sense of family at JRM. I like that. Although this is my fourth season with the organization and we’ve only done six races together, I think we have some pretty good results to show for it.

“When we finished second at Road America last year, we all felt pretty fortunate to have finished with clean fenders. It was all about survival in the closing laps. We had a strong car, but needed a little something extra to have a chance to win. We’ve talked about what we need to better this time around and will give it our best shot come Saturday.”

    JR MOTORSPORTS NOTEBOOK –

FELLOWS REUNITES WITH TEAM JRM – Ron Fellows, a native of Windsor, Ontario, Canada, reunites with JR Motorsports for this weekend’s Bucyrus 200 at Road America. JACK-OF-ALL-TRADES – A longtime sports car and road-racing veteran, Fellows is credited with three class championships in the American Le Mans Series, two class wins in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and 19 overall victories in the Sports Car Club of America’s Trans-Am Series as a member of the Corvette Racing Team. His NASCAR credentials include six overall wins (two in the Camping World Truck Series), and two runner-up finishes in Sprint Cup competition.

JRM AUTOGRAPH SIGNING – Almirola and Fellows will attend an autograph signing at the JR Nation merchandise hauler in the fan concourse area on Saturday, June 25, from 11:30 a.m. – 12 noon CST.

    NOTES

Jamie McMurray and No. 1 McDonald’s Team

Road Course Racing in Sonoma: McMurray has eight career NSCS starts at the road course in the wine country of Northern California. He has an average starting position of 15.4 including two front row starts, a second-place start in 2006 and a pole in 2007. His best finish came in 2004 when he crossed the finish-line in second. He has zero DNF’s and has completed all but one lap (884 of 885; 99.9%) at Infineon Raceway.

Michigan Review: The No. 1 McDonald’s team began the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 from the 14th-position and battled with a tight race car most of the event. With solid pit stops throughout the race the team worked to find the right balance on the car and managed to keep McMurray running among the top 25 all afternoon to bring home a 19th-place finish.

In the Points: McMurray and the No. 1 team jumped up two positions in the NSCS point standings after the Michigan race and are currently tied for 27th, 112 points out of 12th and 129 points out of 10th.

Going Back to Cali: Sammy Gonzales; mechanic on the McDonalds Chevrolet is a native of Southern California. Gonzales hails from Mission Hills, California approximately 400 miles to the south of this weekend’s race in Sonoma

Visit McDonald’s: Attention Race Fans – Stop at one of two McDonald’s locations within 10 miles of the Infineon Raceway to satisfy your breakfast, lunch or dinner tastes. The McDonald’s locations can be found at 18988 Sonoma Highway, Sonoma CA 95476 and 7340 Redwood Boulevard, Novato CA 94945.

Juan Pablo Montoya and No. 42 Cottonelle Team

Montoya will be doing a media Q&A session outside of the No. 42 hauler on Friday, June 24th at 10:15 a.m. PT

Scene of the Crime: Juan Pablo Montoya returns to the site of his historic first NSCS win. In 2007, Montoya beat Kevin Harvick by 4.097 seconds to take the checkered flag at Infineon Raceway. It was Montoya’s first Cup victory in just his 17th start. In his four starts at Infineon, Montoya has never finished outside of the top-10 and has completed all 335 laps at the 1.99-mile road course.

Consistency is Key: Juan Pablo Montoya has the best average finish of any driver in the history of NSCS events at Infineon Raceway (5.8). Also, Montoya’s 108.6 driver rating puts him in second among active Sprint Cup Drivers at Infineon (Tony Stewart 110.4).

Road Course Ringer: Juan Pablo Montoya has eight career road course starts in the NSCS. In those races, he has posted two wins, three top-five’s, seven top-10’s and has an average finish of 9.1.

Coming from the Back: When Juan Pablo Montoya won at Sonoma in 2007, he started in the 32nd position. It is the deepest a race winner has ever started in the history of a Sprint Cup race at Infineon Raceway.

In the Rear View: Last week, the No. 42 team headed to the ‘Irish Hills’ of Michigan for the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400. During Saturday afternoon’s qualifying session, Montoya was able to place the No. 42 Cars 2 Chevrolet in the 25th position for Sunday’s race. When the green flag waved the next day, Montoya immediately had concerns with the car’s handling. He came down pit road at every opportunity for fuel, tires and adjustments. As the laps continued, the Cars 2 Chevrolet continued to be a handful, especially during long green flag runs, and eventually finished out the race in the 30th-position.

Cottonelle Makes an Appearance: Kimberly-Clark’s CottonelleR brand toilet paper will make their first appearance as the primary sponsor on the No. 42 Chevrolet this weekend at Infineon. Kimberly Clark has partnered with Disney/Pixar’s Cars 2 for a new campaign where consumers can win Cars 2-themed prizes by collecting codes found on specially marked Kimberly-Clark products. For more information, please visit

Juan Pablo Motor-ya: Juan Pablo Montoya was invited to be one of the translating voices in the Latin American version of Cars 2, specially voicing one of the cars participating in the World Grand Prix. Juan Pablo Motor-ya will race against Rayo McQueen as a contender to determine who the best car in the world is. Cars 2 will premiere this Friday, June 24 at theaters around the world.

No. 42 Cottonelle Chevrolet (NSCS): Chassis #1014. The No. 42 team will bring chassis #1014 to Infineon Raceway this weekend. This same chassis was run at both road courses last season when Montoya finished 10th at Infineon and went to Victory Lane at Watkins Glen International in August.

Team: No. 99 Scotts Ortho Ford Fusion

    Crew Chief: Bob Osborne

Chassis: RK-758 This is a new car

Carl Edwards on racing at Infineon Raceway:

“The most demanding weekend of the year is this one. We compete on two tough road courses that are thousands of miles apart. Billy Johnson will practice and set up the Fastenal Mustang in Wisconsin Friday while I practice and qualify the Ortho Fusion in California, then we will travel to Road America to race Saturday, then back to Infineon for Sunday’s race. I feel that Saturday’s race will help me prepare for Sunday and will make up for the lost practice in the Sprint Cup car. There’s a lot of pride in winning on a road course, and a win at either event would be huge.”

Crew chief Bob Osborne on racing at Infineon Raceway:

“Our road course program has come a long way since 2004. Carl is coming into his own as a driver and our ability to lead laps and get strong finishes is evidence of that. His two wins in the Nationwide Series in Montreal and Road America are a credit to his road racing skills. We are bringing a new car that tested well at Road Atlanta, so I feel confident that we’ll be competitive at Sonoma.”

    FAST FACTS

    * CARL EDWARDS enters Infineon with a 20-point lead in the NASCAR Sprint Cup point standings. In 15 Cup Series starts in 2011, he has accumulated one win, eight top-five and 11 top-10 finishes.

    * FOR THE RECORD…Edwards will make his seventh Cup start at Infineon this weekend. In his previous six starts, Edwards has two top-10 finishes and has led 14 laps.

    * ON THE TRACK…The Aflac team will be bringing chassis RK-758 this weekend to Sonoma. It is a new car that the team tested at Road Atlanta. The car will also carry a new Scotts Ortho paint scheme.

    * DOUBLE DUTY…Edwards will split time between Infineon Raceway and Road America. This week’s trip will be the most extensive of his double-duty trips this season with a distance of 2,180 miles between tracks.

    * REWIND, INFINEON 2010… Edwards could never quite get the track position he needed throughout the race and was 14th in the closing laps. With only a few laps to go, Edwards was spun by another car and although there was no caution and he did not have to pit, he fell back to 32nd place. He gained a few spots on the final lap to finish 29th.

    Matt Kenseth – NSCS ADVANCE

Team: No. 17 Crown Royal Ford Fusion

    Crew Chief: Jimmy Fennig

Chassis: Primary: RK-757 (brand new chassis)

Kenseth on racing at Infineon Raceway:

“Track position is really important when we go to road courses like Sonoma this weekend. Qualifying becomes a really big focus for the team since passing is a lot more difficult due to the limited space on the track. Sonoma is kind of a difficult track with the two-wide restarts and how narrow it is. It has gotten to be one of the more exciting races to watch when you see the two-wide restarts and all the crazy stuff happening as drivers are fighting for space on the track. There are a lot of people two and three-wide at a track that is really just a single groove everywhere. A lot of stuff can happen, which can be exciting for the fans.”

Crew chief Jimmy Fennig on racing at Infineon Raceway:

“We’re bringing a brand new car this weekend with us to Sonoma. We took it to Road Atlanta last month just to shake the car down on a road course. The keys to this weekend are going to be staying on the track and fuel mileage. Drivers that race smart at the road courses usually tend to stay out of trouble all day, and quick pit stops seem to matter a little more at a road course where it’s difficult to pass and advance your way through the field.”

    FAST FACTS:

    • Kenseth has an average starting position of 19.1 and an average finishing position of 22.2 at Sonoma

    • Kenseth’s best finish at Sonoma came in 2008 when he earned his first top-10 finish at the road course

    • Infineon Raceway is the only track on the NASCAR Cup circuit where Kenseth has yet to lead a lap

    • Kenseth has completed 1,196 of 1,219 (98.1 percent) laps at Sonoma

    • This weekend at Sonoma, Kenseth will pilot the No. 17 Crown Royal Ford Fusion

    • Entering this weekend, Kenseth is currently sixth in the Sprint Cup Series driver point standings

Roush Fenway Ready for Right Turns Across the Country

This weekend Roush Fenway and NASCAR take their first ‘right-turns’ of the season with road course action split across the country. The Sprint Cup series will travel to the wine country of northern California for a showdown at Infineon Raceway, while the Nationwide Series heads to Road America in Wisconsin.

    Roush Fenway’s Road Racing History

Roush Fenway has made 236 road course starts in combined NASCAR action, having collected 12 wins and almost 100 top 10s. Roush Fenway boasts four wins in the Sprint Cup series at the road courses and two victories in the NNS. Roush Fenway won three straight Cup races on the road course at Watkins Glen from 1993-95. All-in-all, five different drivers have won NASCAR road races for Roush Fenway.

    Roush Fenway at Infineon Raceway

Roush Fenway has one win at Infineon Raceway in Cup racing, via Mark Martin’s 1997 win at the track. They also have one win at Infineon in the truck series, with Joe Ruttman doing the honors in the same season.

    On the Roster

Greg Biffle and Carl Edwards each have won on road courses in NASCAR action. Biffle has wins at Portland (1999) and Watkins Glen (2000) in the truck series, while Edwards has two wins in Nationwide, including last year’s inaugural race at Road America and two years ago in Montreal.

    The Big Double

Carl Edwards will again pull double duty this weekend, splitting time between Road America and Infineon Raceway, while competing in both series. This week’s trip will be the most extensive double duty of the season with Road America (in Elkhart Lake, Wis.) located 2,180 miles from Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif. Edwards is running full-time in each division.

    Last week…

Roush Fenway dominated the weekend at Michigan, winning the Nationwide race on Saturday, reclaiming the NNS point lead and leading over half of the Sprint Cup race on Sunday. For the weekend Roush Feneway led 216 laps, with six cars leading in two races.

    In the Lead

Roush Fenway once again leads both of NASCAR’s top two divisions, with Ricky Stenhouse Jr., leading the points in the Nationwide Series and Carl Edwards on top in the Sprint Cup Series. In addition, Roush Fenway’s No. 60 Ford Mustang sits atop the owner standing in the NNS.
