  • Kenny Wallace Says NASCAR ‘Zapped the Hell Out of Kyle Busch’

Kenny Wallace Says NASCAR ‘Zapped the Hell Out of Kyle Busch’

With news of Kyle Busch being parked by NASCAR Saturday morning for the remainder of the weekend, the garage area has been buzzing. Opinions flying throughout about what’s right and wrong in terms of treating another competitor after one feels they have been done wrong.

[media-credit name=”theautochannel.com” align=”alignright” width=”300″][/media-credit]Kenny Wallace was supposed to talk to the media Saturday before the Nationwide Series race about his 520th start. The record makes him the all-time leader in starts in the series and while he did talk about his piece of history and the memorable moments in his career, he also didn’t shy away from offering his thoughts on Busch.

For Wallace, he knows all about NASCAR parking drivers. In 1997 at Phoenix he disobeyed a black flag and was called him to the NASCAR hauler after the race. Wallace refused and NASCAR fine him $10,000 which he had to write a check for out of his own account. Something he said made his hands shake. They also threatened to sit him for the next event a week later.

“Mike Helton said something to me I’ll never forget — and this goes true for Kyle Busch — but he said these words: ‘I do not want to be the one to ruin your career,’” said Wallace. “So when the NASCAR president tells you ‘I don’t want to be the one to ruin your career’, they’re serious about that.”

In 2002 Wallace was the substitute driver for Kevin Harvick after NASCAR parked him for his actions in a Camping World Truck Series race. Then in 2005 when Roush suspended then driver Kurt Busch, Wallace was again the man that was called upon to drive the car.

He joked that he has the most experience at parking drivers. What wasn’t a joke to Wallace were Busch’s actions. There are rules in NASCAR just like any sport he said, that everyone needs to abide by and if not, they suffer the consequences. It’s not a free enterprise.

Busch and Hornaday got together on lap 15 of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) race on Friday night. After the caution flag had been shown Busch sped up to catch Hornaday and pushed him around turns three and four before he was able to turn him into the wall. He was parked for the remainder of the event and NASCAR informed Busch of the rest of his penalty on Saturday morning.

President Mike Helton said that Busch crossed a line, even in the days of “boys, have at it.” Drivers can go about expressing themselves and reacting how they please but it will be to NASCAR’s discretion. There is a line that Helton said they’ve always believed that they’ll know when they see. Unfortunately for Busch, he showed it to them on Friday night.

While he was driving his own truck on Friday, Joe Gibbs Racing is now filling in the gap that Busch leaves for Saturday and Sunday. Denny Hamlin and Michael McDowell will be the substitutes; even though Wallace joked he was hoping they would put him in the 18 car.

Instead, he hopes that Busch learns from his actions. Just as he did in ’97 when NASCAR laid down the law, forcing him to grow up in a hurry. Drivers need the sport more than the sport needs them, contrary to popular belief.

“I compare this situation to a dog collar,” said Wallace. “They zap you once, they zap you twice. And they zapped the hell out of Kyle Busch. And I think he gets it now, after 90 wins [across all three series]. So, I went through all of this, I’m the king of this situation.”

More importantly says Wallace is that NASCAR doesn’t make idle threats, no matter if it’s Kyle Busch or John Doe. They will put a driver in their place, no matter the cost anyone party involved.

“They will ruin Kyle’s career if he doesn’t straighten up,” Wallace said. “They don’t care if M&M’s is his sponsor. They don’t care if he’s in the Chase. They don’t care that all his employees have just lost their bonus money. They don’t care if he took Ron Hornaday out of the championship chase. There are major, major implications for this situation and I understand them all.”

  • TOYOTA NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) Post-Race Notes & Quotes Texas Motor Speedway

TOYOTA NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) Post-Race Notes & Quotes Texas Motor Speedway

Denny Hamlin (second) was the highest finishing Toyota driver in Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race at Texas Motor Speedway.

Camry driver Joey Logano (eighth) also earned a top-10 finish in the 350-mile event. Kenny Wallace (13th) set a NNS record by making his 520th-career series start in Saturday’s race.

Other Toyota drivers in the field included Brian Scott (12th), Steve Wallace (18th), Michael Annett (20th) and Joe Nemechek (21st).

Four Camry drivers are among the top-10 in the unofficial NNS driver point standings — K. Wallace (seventh), Scott (eighth), S. Wallace (ninth) and Annett (10th).

DENNY HAMLIN, No. 18 Z-Line Designs Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing Finishing Position: 2nd What happened on the final restart? “Yeah, we didn’t get the best restart there and those guys on the outside line really had an advantage and they were able to pull us and just took us that long to get back to them. Took a long time to get this car where I felt like I wanted it and at the end we had a car that could contend for a win and that’s all you can ask for.”

What is it like jumping in a car for the first time on race day? “It was a tough day. It’s very tough to get into someone’s car. Any of these drivers that have been in someone else’s car at one moment or time during testing and it’s just — when things don’t fit, you’re exactly right and we have such a different stature and size and everything like that and driving style, it’s hard to make it work. But, we worked through it and by the end of the day we had a car that was capable of winning. We’ll take that.”

When did you find out you were going to race in today’s event? “This morning, you know last night, this morning it was — we figured something was going on. I just got in the car this morning just in case and got fitted for it and that was it.”

What is your reaction to NASCAR’s actions today? “It’s a tough spot. I think we’ve seen stuff like that. If you read my Twitter account, I think that what happened last night happened a lot last week and it’s happened all year, but obviously the stakes are a little higher when you have a championship contender and speeds are up and it’s under caution. All those things I think formulated into it and I feel like NASCAR felt probably a little pressure from fans and things like that to make a decision and they made what they thought was correct. It’s tough for everyone at Joe Gibbs Racing because I know that the whole No. 18 team works extremely hard to get to the position that they’re in and to have a chance at a good finishing points position kind of taken away at the end, it’s tough for them. It’s tough for everyone at Gibbs.”

Will you think twice before dumping somebody in the future? “I don’t know really where the line is. Like I said, there’s not much different than what happened last week. There was a lot of incidents very, very similar that took guys out and things like that. I’m still — I don’t know where the line is. It’s not going to be a defined line — it’s going to be their judgment call and what they say goes. We’ve got to realize that if we make a decision, a bad decision and decide to retaliate it could be, our future could be in NASCAR’s hands. We have to realize that.”

Would you race more Nationwide Series races this year if asked? “I’ll do whatever I need to do. Obviously running his truck last week and his car this week — I’ll do whatever it takes to fill in the gaps where need be. We’ll just go from here.”

How will not having Kyle Busch in Sunday’s race affect you? “It changes the complexion for us because he’s one of the guys I use every weekend for information and help tune our race car. Obviously Michael (McDowell) is in a tough spot trying to just get in that race car and go racing and be competitive. We obviously rely a lot on the information that we get from our other two crew chiefs and drivers. With one kind of being a big variable now, you kind of have to take it with a grain of salt. We’ll have to figure things out and kind of do it on our own for the most part this week.”

JOEY LOGANO, No. 20 GameStop Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing Finishing Position: 8th How was your race today? “Terrible. It sucked. We ran like crap. We were just sideways all day — really loose no matter what we did. Tried to make it better and as we tightened it up, we just killed the aero platform, which takes overall grip away, so even balanced right we were still slow. It was frustrating.”

BRIAN SCOTT, No. 11 Shore Lodge Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing Finishing Position: 12th How was your race today? “I thought we had just an okay day. We ran just top-10 most the day — a little bit outside of it. We used pit stops to try to make our car better. We kind of went the wrong direction on one of them when we first put stickers on and we learned from it. We made some adjustment and I thought we were going to have a good day. Just so-so. (Elliott) Sadler moved up on us on the last pit stop and caved in our left front fender and we fell back a couple of positions and finished 12th, which should have been a top-10 day. Overall, just kind of nothing spectacular and nothing disastrous. Just had a day.”

KENNY WALLACE, No. 09 G-Oil Camry, RAB Racing Finishing Position: 13th How was your race today? “It was a decent race. It wasn’t a bad race by any means. For my 520th start, you want to have a competitive race. You don’t want to embarrass yourself, so 13th was okay. You know we’re really working hard on staying seventh in the points racing Brian Scott and my nephew, Steven (Wallace). A lot of emotion was put in to that last restart to get my lap back. Took some chances and it worked out and 13th is okay. It’s not great, but it’s okay and move on to Phoenix now and end this year in the next couple of races.”

How do you feel about breaking the NNS starts record with 520 starts? “Well, I’ve been consistent in all of my comments and I haven’t been ‘wishy-washy.’ I still am thankful for my 10 years in the Cup Series with 344 starts. I’m learning all these stats now. To have been able to make a living my whole life has been a dream come true. It’s no different than in the media center I see a lot of you here and I’ve seen y’all come and I’ve seen you go and I’ve very grateful to have come out of Arnold, Missouri and if you would have told me that you can make a living in NASCAR and that’s all you’re ever going to do — I mean, I’ve made a living driving a race car my whole life and it looks like I will retire racing cars for a living. That’s perspective that I can put it into. I’m thrilled to death. I’m grateful to all the car owners that have given me rides and I’m really excited about today’s race. We’ve got a points battle going on for the seventh spot and it’s been like that my whole career, all types of little races.”

STEVE WALLACE, No. 66 5-Hour Energy, Rusty Wallace Racing Finishing Position: 18th

MICHAEL ANNETT, No. 62 Pilot Flying J Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing Finishing Position: 20th

JOE NEMECHEK, No. 87 NEMCO Motorsports Camry, NEMCO Motorsports Finishing Position: 21st

  • Bayne holds off Edwards and Hamlin to win his first NNS race at Texas

Bayne holds off Edwards and Hamlin to win his first NNS race at Texas

Trevor Bayne captured his career NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) victory on Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway. Bayne passed teammate Carl Edwards on the final restart with seven laps remaining and pulled away to win his first NNS race in 76 starts.

[media-credit name=”CIA Stock Photo” align=”alignright” width=”227″][/media-credit]“This is just as surreal as the 500. That’s hard to say, but this has been so long. We’ve worked so hard to get our first Nationwide win and I wasn’t sure if it was ever gonna happen. I was thinking maybe the next Cup win would come first, but these guys worked their butts off to get us here and God pulled us through.” Bayne said.

Bayne’s win was the 13th for Mustang in its inaugural season and is the most among all manufacturers. Bayne also captured Roush Fenway Racing it’s 299th all-time win in the NASCAR Sprint Cup and NASCAR Nationwide Series combined.

This win also secured Ford its third manufacturer championship in the Nationwide Series.

“We’re thrilled to win the NASCAR Nationwide Manufacturers’ Championship. Not only is it our first since 2002, but, more importantly, it’s the first championship for Mustang in NASCAR. Mustang, as it has for 47 years, continues to be a force in all forms of racing. This has been a great year for Ford and Roush Fenway in Nationwide, with Carl, Ricky and Trevor all providing some great moments and 13 victories. Now, it would be great to add the driver’s championship by Ricky to this special year for Mustang and Ford.” said Jamie Allison, Director, Ford Racing.

Edwards dominated most of the race and led 157 of the 200 laps. But Edwards had to settle for third place after Denny Hamlin, while subbing for the suspended Kyle Busch, passed him in the final laps for second place.

“He earned that one. He drove really well. That restart he did a really good job.” Edwards said.

“We didn’t get the best restart there and those guys on the outside line really had an advantage and they were able to pull us and just took us that long to get back to them. Took a long time to get this car where I felt like I wanted it and at the end we had a car that could contend for a win and that’s all you can ask for.” Hamlin said.

Ricky Stenhouse finished sixth and holds a 17-point lead over Elliott Sadler with two races remaining.

“That was fun. We were just a little bit too tight to keep in front of the 22 and run a couple more down, but it was awesome to see Trevor get a win this year in the Nationwide Series. This wraps up a Ford championship for manufacturers, so that’s awesome. It was a good day for the Sam’s Club Members Mark Angus Beef Ford.” Stenhouse said.

  • AdvoCare and RCR Announce Partnership for Austin Dillon’s 2012 NASCAR Nationwide Series No. 3 Chevy

AdvoCare and RCR Announce Partnership for Austin Dillon’s 2012 NASCAR Nationwide Series No. 3 Chevy

WELCOME, N.C. (November 4, 2011) – Richard Childress Racing and AdvoCare, an award-winning premier health and wellness company, have entered into a partnership for the company to be the primary sponsor of the No. 3 AdvoCare Chevrolet Impala driven by Austin Dillon for 20 races in the 2012 NASCAR Nationwide Series season.

Dillon, who currently drives the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, has an 11-point lead in the driver championship point standings with two races remaining. The 21-year-old from Lewisville, N.C., made his NASCAR Nationwide Series debut in 2008 and, in 11 races in the series, has earned two top-five and four top-10 finishes.

“Continuing our solid history with the motorsports community, we are proud to partner with Richard Childress Racing to bring back the No. 3 car in the Nationwide Series with Austin Dillon as the driver. This is the start of an exciting era for both AdvoCare and Richard Childress Racing,” AdvoCare President and CEO Richard Wright said, “This extraordinary opportunity is the next step forward in our strategic efforts to take AdvoCare to new heights.”

RCR returns full time to the NASCAR Nationwide Series in 2012 after a one-year hiatus but with a strong heritage to build from. RCR has earned 56 victories and five series championships since its first season in 2000. Kevin Harvick won overall championships (driver and owner) in 2001 and 2006, Harvick and Johnny Sauter won the owner championship in 2003, Jeff Burton and Scott Wimmer won the owner championship in 2007 and Clint Bowyer won the driver championship in 2008.

“We are excited to have AdvoCare on board as Austin makes the full time step into the NASCAR Nationwide Series in 2012 driving the No. 3 Chevrolet,” said Richard Childress, president and CEO of Richard Childress Racing. “AdvoCare is a company with a great culture that creates a great fit with RCR. We look forward to working closely with them and the other partners on the No. 3 team to build a competitive and successful program.”

AdvoCare was the title sponsor of the AdvoCare 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The Plano, Texas, based company is also a platinum sponsor of Operation Homefront, an organization dedicated to providing emergency assistance to those serving in the military and their families. The AdvoCare National Spokesperson is NFL championship-winning and championship game MVP quarterback Drew Brees.

“It’s great to have a company like AdvoCare on board for the move into the NASCAR Nationwide Series because I already use and benefit from some of their products,” said Dillon. “I believe strongly in their products and quickly became a believer in the strength of their company after the first meeting with them. I’m looking forward to the challenge of moving with Danny Stockman (crew chief) and the guys to the NASCAR Nationwide Series with the No. 3. Our goal next year is to win races and compete for rookie of the year honors.”

Dale Earnhardt, Jr., earned back-to-back NASCAR Nationwide Series championships (1998, ’99) driving the No. 3 Chevrolet for Dale Earnhardt Inc. He also earned two Nationwide Series victories in the No. 3 for RCR, in February 2002 at Daytona International Speedway and July 2010 at Daytona International Speedway.

“Austin is taking the next step in his career by moving to the Nationwide Series,” said Earnhardt. “He has used the 3 predominantly throughout his career, and I for one am excited to know he’ll be running it at the next level. He’s a sharp kid with a lot of potential. The respect he shows the sport and his competitors is a reflection of the family values that has molded him into the person he is today. I wish him luck and can’t wait to compete with him on the track next season.”

    DODGE AT TEXAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY

    • Dodge has two Nationwide Series wins at Texas: Kasey Kahne (2005 spring) and Kurt Busch (2006 spring).

    • Dodge has one pole at TMS: Ryan Newman (2005 fall).

    • Dodge has 10 top-five and 13 top-10 finishes at Texas.

    • Chad Blount scored the first top five for Dodge at Texas, finishing fifth in the 2003 spring race.

DODGE IN THE NASCAR NATIONWIDE SERIES

    • Dodge is fielding two entries in the Nationwide Series this season with Penske Racing.  Sam Hornish Jr. joins Brad Keselowski for a limited schedule.  Hornish will make his 11th Nationwide start of the year at Texas and will compete in the final three Nationwide races this year.

    • Dodge has 39 wins in the Nationwide Series, seven coming in the 2010 season.

BRAD KESELOWSKI ON TEXAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY:  “Texas is an extremely fast track in any kind of car, but no stock car gives you the sensation of speed that the Nationwide Series car does.  It actually feels faster than a Cup car.  You enter Turn 1 at around 190-195 mph, depending on whether you are in race trim or qualifying trim. If your car is handling the way it needs to, you’ll go through that corner without lifting, or barely lifting, out of the throttle. You’re on the edge the entire lap and if you don’t hit your marks, you can easily end up in the wall.  I’m excited about the car we’re bringing and I think we can run up front and contend for the win.”

SAM SAYS “I always love going to Texas.  The guys in the shop have been working hard over these last two off weeks to build me a great car, so hopefully I can bring home a solid finish.  This weekend is even more exciting because we are bringing Avis on board the No. 12 Penske Racing Dodge Challenger as a sponsor.” Sam Hornish Jr., driver, No. 12 AVIS Dodge Challenger R/T

    RICK HENDRICK STATEMENT

CONCORD, N.C. (Nov. 2, 2011) – Monday evening, a Gulfstream G150 aircraft operated by Hendrick Motorsports ran off the runway after experiencing braking issues upon landing at Key West International Airport in Key West, Fla.

All four people on board — Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick, his wife, Linda Hendrick, and two Hendrick Motorsports pilots — were released from Lower Keys Medical Center early Tuesday morning. Mrs. Hendrick was treated for minor cuts and bruises, and both pilots were released without injury.

Upon returning home to Charlotte, N.C., on Tuesday, Mr. Hendrick was further evaluated as a precautionary measure by his personal physician. He was diagnosed with four broken ribs (previously stated as one broken rib), a broken clavicle (as previously stated) and bruising. No other injuries have been identified.

Due to discomfort from the injuries, Mr. Hendrick was admitted Tuesday afternoon to a medical facility in the Charlotte area, where doctors believe the pain can most effectively be managed. He is in good spirits and is expected to be released by the end of the week.

Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports:

“Linda and I have been overwhelmed by all the words of encouragement and genuine concern we’ve received. We are blessed to have such a wonderful support system, and our family is extremely grateful for the thoughts and prayers. We extend our sincere thanks to everyone.

“I’m so proud of how our pilots handled the situation, and we’re extremely appreciative of the folks in Key West who went above and beyond to help us. It’s good to be back in Charlotte as we regroup and focus on our family.”

    TOYOTA NASCAR NOTES & QUOTES

    Week of October 31 – November 6, 2011

    TOYOTA TIDBITS

PODIUM AT THE PAPER CLIP:  Denny Hamlinwas the highest finishing Toyota driver in Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) race at Martinsville Speedway with a fifth-place result.  The Virginia-native started 11th and led twice for 58 laps (of 500).  His Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) teammate, Kyle Busch, led the field four times for a race-high 126 laps (of 500), but finished 27th after being involved in an accident at the paperclip-shaped short track.  Martin Truex Jr. (eighth) also earned a top-10 result.  In Saturday’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) race, Hamlin claimed his first NCWTS victory in 12 career series starts, le ading 68 laps (of 200).  The win enabled Hamlin to become just the 23rd driver in NASCAR history to win races in all three of NASCAR’s national touring series.

CHASE RACE SEVEN:  Sunday’s NSCS race at Martinsville Speedway was the seventh of 10 races in the 2011 Chase for the Sprint Cup championship playoff.  Camry drivers Busch and Hamlin are both competing in this year’s Chase.  Busch’s 27th-place result at Martinsville dropped the Camry driver one position in the standings to seventh.  Busch is now 57 points back from leader Carl Edwards.  Hamlin’s fifth-place finish cut four points into the point lead — he now sits 80 points behind the leader — and he ranks 11th in the standings with three races remaining this season.

TWICE IN TEXAS:  Camry driver Hamlinis the defending fall race winner at Texas Motor Speedway and his November 2010 victory completed a season sweep at the track, after he also won the April race.  The speedy Texas track is one of Hamlin’s favorite facilities and the Camry driver has the second best average finish (9.3) among active drivers at Texas Motor Speedway.  In 12 Texas starts, Hamlin has two wins, eight top-10 finishes and has led 131 laps.

LONE STAR LOCAL: Texas-native and 2000 NSCS champion Bobby Labontereturns to his ‘home’ track for the second time with JTG-Daugherty Racing and looks to improve on his 25th-place finish from the April race.  Originally from Corpus Christi, Labonte has competed in the NSCS since 1991 and the 47-year-old racer has collected 21 victories in over 600 starts. It was recently announced that Labonte will again compete for the team in 2012 with new crew chief Todd Berrier.

WALLACE REACHES RECORD:  NASCAR veteran and Camry driver Kenny Wallacewill break the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) record for most career series starts at Texas Motor Speedway when he starts his 520th race. Wallace made his first start in the NNS in 1988 and has gone on to collect nine wins and 170 top-10 finishes during his lengthy NASCAR career.  The St. Louis-native has also experienced a resurgence this season and ranks in the top-10 in series points for the first time in five years.  Wallace’s team, RAB Racing, is the only single-car organization in the top-10 in the NNS point standings and he is currently seventh in the standings.

TRAMPLING THROUGH TEXAS:  Whenever the NNS visits Texas, Buschis usually in contention for a win at the 1.5- mile track.  Busch recorded five consecutive NNS victories at Texas from 2008 through 2010 and has led the most NNS circuits in track history with 1,187 laps led — more than twice as many as the next closest competitor.  In 13 NNS starts in Texas, Busch has the most wins (5) at the track and has finished in the top-10 on 11 occasions.

    NOTES, QUOTES & NUMBERS

NASCARSprintCupSeries(NSCS): Since the start of the 2011 season, Toyota drivers have combined for five victories, 36 top-five results, 71 top-10 finishes and have led 2,454 laps … Denny Hamlin will join FedEx and the American Red Cross at Cross Timbers Middle School in Grapevine, Texas, on  Thursday to teach children how to prepare for emergencies … FedEx will donate $10,000 to the North Texas Region of the American Red Cross and a portion of the donation will be used to build emergency kits at the event to send to areas and families in need as part of the FedEx ‘Race to Prepare’ program.

BOBBY LABONTE, No. 47 Wounded Warrior Project Toyota Camry, JTG-Daugherty Racing Do you enjoy racing in your home state of Texas? “Texas is a great place to go.  For me to go home there and — well, not really see too many people that I know because they all kind of moved to North Carolina — but see a few people that will come out to the event for us to see the race.  We have a lot of good memories at Texas and always look forward to it.  It’s a great track to go to.  It’s a lot of fun.  It’s one of those tracks that I think the age that it has on it — the racing surface and the tires that we have — it lends to really good racing usually.  You go fast for qualifying, but the speeds will slow down enough in the race to make a good race out of it.”

DENNY HAMLIN, No. 11 FedEx Office Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing Are you looking forward to racing at Texas? “Texas has been a great race track for me and my career.  When I go there, we’re going to have a little bit more confidence in what we did than other race tracks.  It’s always been a good one.  I have some friends and family that live out there so it’s always a homecoming type race.”

DAVE ROGERS, crew chief, No. 18 M&M’s Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing How do you put Martinsville in perspective? “In life you have to go through tests and last year we were in the Chase and we had a number of tests come our way and quite frankly, we didn’t handle them that well.  I think that as a team, we’ve handled a lot of tests this year really well, but none in the Chase.  Now the Chase comes and we’ve been dealt a lot of tests and I’m really proud of how this team has handled it.  I haven’t seen people bow their heads.  I haven’t seen people complaining.  I haven’t seen Kyle (Busch) get frustrated.  We just go to the race track and work as hard as we can.  (Martinsville) is another one of those tests and it clearly hurts any realistic shot at winning a championship this year.  There’s still a chance — we won’t give up, but realistically we know it’s over.  But in the end — a year from now, two years from now, 10 years from now — this will make us better people and a better race team and that’s how you go forward.”

NASCARNationwideSeries(NNS):  During the 2011 season, Toyota drivers have combined for 10 wins, 35 top-five results, 78 top-10 finishes and have led 1,604 laps … Kenny Wallace (seventh) is the top Toyota driver in the NNS point standings … Brian Scott (eighth), Steve Wallace (ninth) and Michael Annett (10th) are also in the top-10 …The NNS returns to the track after two scheduled off weekends … GameStop, the primary sponsor of the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Camry at Texas, is based in nearby Grapevine … As part of its NASCAR sponsorship, GameStop works with vendors to showcase a different video game at each race and ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’  will be featured on the No. 20 Camry in Texas.

KENNY WALLACE, No. 09 G-Oil Toyota Camry, RAB Racing How special will it be to set the NNS career starts record? “When I was a little kid growing up in Arnold, Missouri, if you would have told me that I was to be able to race in NASCAR my whole life, I would have considered that wishful thinking and a dream.  My 520th Nationwide start has been a dream.”

NASCARCampingWorldTruckSeries(NCWTS):  Since the start of the 2011 NCWTS season, Tundra drivers have registered nine wins, 34 top-five results, 70 top-10 finishes and have led 1,111 laps … After 23 races, Timothy Peters (fifth) is the top Toyota driver in the NCWTS points standings … Tundra drivers Todd Bodine (sixth), Brendan Gaughan (11th) and David Starr (13th) are also in the top-15 in the points … Bodine and Gaughan have the most NCWTS wins in Texas with six and four, respectively … Tundra drivers have captured nine victories at Texas Motor Speedway, the most at any track, and the Tundra is fittingly made at nearby Toyota Motor Manufacturing of Texas (TMMTX) … Located in San Antonio, TMMTX opened in 2006 and produces both the Tundra and Tacoma pickup trucks, employing about 2,000 team members … Kyle Busch Motorsports’ (KBM) front tire changer, Pedro Martinez Jr., is a San Antonio-native … Ivan ‘The Ironman’ Stewart, a 10-time off-road racing champion, will attend the Texas Motor Speedway race weekend and will be giving rides at the Toyota Ride & Drive Center … Traxxas the primary sponsor of the No. 18 KBM Tundra at Texas, is based in nearby Plano, Texas … Traxxas recently released a 1/16 scale R/C replica of the No. 18 Tundra … 10-year old Gabe-Bridges Aldridge of Justin, Texas was selected as a winner in the “Riding Shotgun with Kyle Busch Motorsports” essay contest and will be featured on the No. 18 Tundra at Texas Motor Speedway.

BRENDAN GAUGHAN, No. 62 International Trucks / Monaco RV Toyota Tundra, Germain Racing Why have you been so successful at Texas Motor Speedway? “It’s been a few years since we’ve been really good there.  If I knew what made us so good back then, I would have put in a bottle and kept it.  We had a bunch of great years.   The rules were way different.  The teams had more ability to actually be race teams and we tested and we got great at mile-and-a-halfs.  My family loves Texas.  It’s always a big race for us. Probably the biggest race for my family, besides Vegas.  My mother and father have a ranch about 30 miles from the race track.  We do a lot in the rodeo business.  ‘Tuff’ Hedeman (four-time professional bull riding champion and president of Championship Bull Riding) shows up at the race track with us and a lot of the old, famous cowboys always hang out with us. When we come to Texas, we always have a little swagger and I’d like to make it work.”

TODD BODINE, No. 5 Big Red Toyota Tundra, Randy Moss Motorsports Why have you been so successful at Texas Motor Speedway? “The first thing is you’ve got to have a good truck and (Mike Hillman) Jr. has always had good trucks there and we handle really well.  You’ve got to have some luck too and we’ve had luck there.  We had a bad carburetor and still won the race. You’ve got to have everything at Texas and we’re just good there.”

“We have Bimbo Bakeries, Tia Rosa Tortillas, Barcel and their Takis brand on the car. This is a pretty big deal for us because they are such a vast company and I can’t thank them enough for being part of our racing efforts.

“It will be good to have my teammate, Scott Riggs, running the whole race with us, too, in the No. 03 Chevrolet. My mom’s company jumped on board to make that happen, so that’s a good deal for everyone.

“Practice is going to be very important to figure out what we have on the No. 23 and the No. 03 cars. Once we do that, then we have to wait until later in the day to qualify.
