    Notes and Quotes:

Previous Race Recap: Leading the field to the checkers with his teammate, Steve Wallace, on his bumper, Michael Annett was the closest he’s ever been to experiencing Victory Lane in the Nationwide Series before being shuffled back to sixth in a mishap heading to the finish line at Daytona International Speedway last weekend. Disheartened that his Rusty Wallace Racing team didn’t capture the win, Annett’s sixth place finish did however qualify him for the next Nationwide Insurance Dash 4 Cash race which takes place on his home turf at Iowa Speedway next month. The Des Moines, Iowa native will be competing with Jason Leffler, Justin Allgaier and Reed Sorenson for Nationwide Insurance’s $100,000 Dash 4 Cash bonus on August 6 at the .75 mile Newton, Iowa track designed by Annett’s team owner, Rusty Wall ace.

Annett on qualifying for the second Nationwide Dash 4 Cash race:

“I’m really excited about being one of the four drivers to qualify for the second Dash 4 Cash payout, and what makes it even better is that I’ll be competing for the $100,000 bonus on my home track, Iowa Speedway. Nationwide Insurance does a great job making this series and series regulars like me stand out, and being able to be a part of their Dash 4 Cash program at my favorite track on the circuit is something I’m really looking forward to.”

Knack for the Kentucky Track: In Annett’s first ever race at Kentucky Speedway in 2008, the young driver started fourth, finished ninth and led 31 laps of the ARCA Racing Series Drive Smart! Buckle Up Kentucky 150. In the Truck Series in 2008, he scored a second place finish at Kentucky, his career best finish in the Camping World Truck Series. Annett earned a seventh place finish after securing a fourth place starting position in his first Nationwide Series event at the 1.5 mile oval in 2009. Friday’s Feed the Children 300 will be the Rusty Wallace Racing driver’s third Nationwide Series start at Kentucky Speedway.

Annett on Returning to Kentucky Speedway:

“I’m looking forward to getting back to Kentucky this weekend. Both Road America and Daytona were great momentum builders for our No. 62 team, so another strong race this weekend will be great to keep that momentum going. I really enjoy racing at Kentucky and have had some success there, so I’m excited to get to the track this week.”

  • Reed Sorenson No. 30 Rexall Chevrolet News and Notes

Reed Sorenson No. 30 Rexall Chevrolet News and Notes

*No. 30 Rexall Chevrolet News and Notes

    · *Sorenson back in the Rexall Chevy… *For the fourth time this season, Reed Sorenson will hop out of his usual No. 32 Dollar General Chevrolet to pilot the No. 30 Rexall Impala. Sorenson drove the No. 30 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Auto Club Speedway and Michigan International Speedway earlier this season.

When Sorenson jumps behind the wheel of the No. 30 machine, he doesn’t just change numbers and sponsors, he swaps teams as well. As in his previous events with Rexall on the hood, Sorenson will work with veteran crew chief Stewart Cooper and his team. Cooper and his team also work with Sprint Cup Series star Kasey Kahne when he pilots Turner Motorsports’ No. 30 and No. 38 entries. Sorenson and the Rexall crew can be heard on the No. 30 radio frequency (460.8875).

    · *Dash 4 Cash winner… *Thanks to series sponsor, Nationwide Insurance, and their Dash 4 Cash program, Sorenson is $100,000 richer after last weekend’s event at Daytona International Speedway. Heading into the event as the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) points leader, Sorenson competed with second-place Elliott Sadler, third-place Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. and his Turner Motorsports teammate, Justin Allgaier, to be the highest finishing of the four in the Friday night race. Bringing home a third-place finish, he won the six figure prize and qualified for the next Dash 4 Cash event at Iowa Speedway. He will compete with his Turner Motorsports teammates Allgaier and Jason Leffler, and series regular Michael Annett, at Iowa for another $100,000.

    · *Leader of the pack… *Heading into this weekend’s race at Kentucky Speedway, Sorenson is the NNS points leader. He extended his lead to nine points over second-place Sadler and 31 markers over Stenhouse in the third spot.

    · *This week’s Impala… *The Rexall team will unload chassis TMS-119 this weekend at Kentucky Speedway. This chassis last saw track time at Auto Club Speedway and at Las Vegas Motor Speedway where Sorenson brought home 11th and 14th-place finishes, respectively.

    · *Consistency pays off… *In 17 events this season, Sorenson has been one of the series’ most consistent competitors. He is credited with one win, seven top-five and 12 top-10 finishes with only one finish outside the top-15. Sorenson has a 97% lap completion rate, an 11th-place average starting spot and an 8.6 average finishing position. He has led 85 laps and never fallen outside the top-five in the championship point standings. He has now led the point standings for three consecutive weeks.

    · *Feed the Children… *In support of the title sponsor of this weekend’s race and Speedway Children’s Charities, Sorenson will join several Nationwide Series drivers to take part in a food distribution at Warsaw High School in Warsaw, Kentucky on Thursday before hitting the track in the No. 30 Rexall Chevy. The group will be providing 400 pre-identified families in need each with 25 pounds of non-perishable food, a box of personal care items and a bonus box of Avon products. Over the course of the afternoon, Feed the Children will distribute approximately 20,000 pounds of food and products.

    · *Kentucky Speedway: by the numbers… *In three NNS starts at Kentucky Speedway, Sorenson has two top-five finishes. He has an average starting spot of six and finishing position of 16. In last year’s event at the track, he led 49 laps before bringing home a fifth-place finish.

    · *Turner Motorsports welcomes back Rexall… *After making their NASCAR debut last season, Turner Motorsports is pleased to continue their marketing partnership with Rexall. After one hundred years, the Rexall brand continues its commitment to providing affordable and high quality products to consumers, which is the foundation for its success. Standing the test of time, Rexall has built a rich heritage of making life a little healthier one day at a time. More than 280 Rexall products are available only at Dollar General across first aid, cough and cold, over-the counter medicines, children’s medicines and vitamin and supplements.

*Reed Sorenson on heading to Kentucky Speedway

“This weekend’s race holds special significance for me. I would love to say I got the win in the Feed the Children 300. I have a golf tournament every year in Georgia before we race at Atlanta that benefits Speedway Children’s Charities, so I obviously support the cause we are racing for. I hope the momentum from the win at Road America and third-place finish at Daytona carries over to this week. Kentucky has always been a great track for me as we almost got the win here last season. I am excited to go back with this No.30 Rexall team and compete for my second win this season.”

  • Danica Patrick’s Big Decision For 2012 Looks To Be NASCAR

Danica Patrick’s Big Decision For 2012 Looks To Be NASCAR

Last week, it was released that Go Daddy was sold from Bob Parsons to KKR & Co. for $2.25 billion. Off the bat, people were worried about how that would effect Danica Patrick’s future. It appeared that was unnecessary. A spokesperson for Go Daddy said that it won’t affect their relationship with her.

David Yeazell | SpeedwayMedia.com“I can tell you Bob’s been very vocal about how well Danica has fit into Go Daddy’s marketing efforts,” spokesperson Elizabeth Driscoll said. “And the new investors have specifically said they don’t want to mess with Go Daddy’s secret sauce…at least two of the magic ingredients, our customer service and marketing.”

“We are very much looking forward to the future…on the Internet and on the race track.”

With Go Daddy’s support behind her 100%, it is now up to Patrick with what decision she chooses to make for herself in 2012.

Silly season always seems to bring a puzzle and right now, the puzzle has Patrick pointed towards NASCAR for 2012.

Go Daddy already announced that it wouldn’t be backing the No. 5 entry from Hendrick Motorsports next year with driver Kasey Kahne, as it had backed the entry the last couple of years with Mark Martin. This opens up the door for Go Daddy to take on a new sponsorship role within the NASCAR sector. Patrick is already their marketing tool and the person who has given them some of their best publicity. It’d make sense that they were making that announcement so they could sponsor Patrick full-time over at JR Motorsports in the Nationwide Series.

Also, if Patrick came over to NASCAR, her future in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series looks bright down the road if she is capable of moving up. Tony Stewart already stated that he’d like to have her drive for him and as was seen last Friday night at Daytona, they work well together.

Speaking of Daytona, it showed that Patrick is a strong learner in learning aspects of stock car racing. Back in February, she was criticized for how she drafted with drivers as they stated she didn’t know the idea of dragging the brake. However, she learned that quickly on Friday night and led the field for a bit while working with Tony Stewart. She also worked well with JR Motorsports teammate Aric Almirola.

“Got disconnected about half a lap to go and dropped back to get reconnected with Aric,” she said after scoring the third top 10 of her NASCAR career Friday night. “It looked like Mike (Wallace) was struggling there. I kept the car straight and my foot in it, probably not the right thing to do in a wreck.

“I learned a lot out there. I was glad I got to push a bit as I was thinking, ‘Am I only good as a leader?’ But the guys did a good job on the Go Daddy Chevrolet.”

Her ability to be successful in NASCAR has been seen in many different forms also, as she scored her first top five earlier this year at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, finishing fourth with fuel strategy after running just inside the top 10 all day.

“I mean, we’ve been really consistent – the finishes haven’t shown it,” crew chief Tony Eury Jr. said after the fourth place finish. “It’s really easy for her to run in the top 15. If we can get everything right, we can run in the top 10 with this girl.”

Lastly, it has been displayed that she has a good teammate in Aric Almirola to lean on with his experience, as witnessed last year at Homestead-Miami when he came on her radio during the race to give her some tips about her racing line.

With all the pieces laid out, it’d look to be that her decision will be NASCAR full-time in 2012.Though whatever her decision, she’ll have her fans behind her and IZOD IndyCar Series CEO Randy Bernard says that he’s okay with whatever she does.

“I think the world of Danica,” he commented. “I think she’s going to make the right decision for her and I will wish her well whichever decision she makes. She’s done a lot for our sport and that’s what we need to remember. I think that she’ll probably go where the money is the best and I think that’s what I would do, you would do as well, and I think it’s more important right now I focus my attention to Go Daddy and make sure that I can keep Go Daddy apart of our series. I think without Go Daddy, Danica Patrick wouldn’t have the fame that she has and I’m looking out for the long term of our sport.”

    * TREVOR BAYNE at Kentucky Speedway …In two starts Bayne has two top-15 finishes

    * ON THE TRACK…The No. 16 team will carry the Ricky vs. Trevor.com paint scheme this weekend

    QUOTES

Trevor Bayne on racing at Kentucky Speedway: “We had a disappointing run last week at Daytona, so this week is big for our No. 16 team. The buzz at Kentucky will be about the inaugural Cup race, but the Nationwide race will be every bit as exciting. The field is full of cup veterans who will be trying to dominate the race and prepare for Saturday night. I would like to spoil that plan for those guys. I believe our Ford Mustangs will be the class of the field if we get them dialed in during practice sessions. I have had some success at Kentucky in the past, so coming back and running a solid race is expected. I know we can run with the best of them as long as we stay focused and limit our in-race mistakes.”

Crew chief Chris Andrews on racing at Kentucky Speedway: “Our mile and a half program has been solid this year, so I expect nothing less than a top-five finish this weekend at Kentucky. I know there will be fast cars in the race, but we have continued to make improvements on our race cars every week. Trevor is back in the swing of things and is hungry for a break-through win in the Nationwide Series. Trevor has been close a few times this year and I feel it is my responsibility to do everything in my power to put him in a position to win a race.”

    THE QUOTES

Ricky Stenhouse Jr., No. 6 Blackwell Angus Ford Mustang: “I won my first ARCA race at Kentucky and I ran ninth in one Nationwide start there so I feel pretty good about it. It’s been two years since I’ve been on the track. Our cars have always been pretty fast there. Carl [Edwards] has been fast and won some races so I’m really looking forward to getting there plus we have got a cool design on our Blackwell Mustang.”

IS THE TRACK AT KENTUCKY BUMPY AND IS IT DIFFICULT TO FIND THE RIGHT GROOVE? “It used to be really bumpy. I did make some laps the last time we were there on it and it seemed to be really smooth compared to what it used to be. I don’t know if they’ve done something different or what.”

THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THE CUP CARS ARE AT KENTUCKY ALONG WITH THE NATIONWIDE CARS. DOES THAT CHANGE ANYTHING FOR YOU? “It actually might change something because we’re going to have more rubber on the racetrack and normally in Nationwide the racetrack normally doesn’t get really wide. It’s normally two grooves, the bottom and the middle. I think Cup cars are definitely going to make it wider so that we can really do some good racing.”

    THE FACTS

Stenhouse Jr. is third in the NASCAR Nationwide Series championship standings, 31 points behind leader Reed Sorenson and nine behind second-place Elliott Sadler. He leads fourth-place Justin Allgaier by six points and fifth-place Jason Leffler by 42…Posted a ninth-place finish in his only previous NNS start at Kentucky…Scored first ARCA series win at Kentucky in 2008, edging Scott Speed in a green-white-checkered finish in his sixth start…Has led at least one lap in five of the last six NNS races and 12 times in 11 races this season for 181 total laps…Stenhouse has racked up 14 bonus points, most of any NNS regular…In 10 superspeedway starts this season Stenhouse has claimed one pole, five top-fives and nine top-10 finishes…Average start this season is 7.0 and his average finish is 10.8 and has completed 98.0 percent of total possible laps (2,996 of 3,058).

Feed the Children 300 at Kentucky Speedway

No. 11 Shore Lodge Team Notes of Interest

. Brian Scott and the No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota team travel to Kentucky Speedway for this weekend’s Feed the Children 300 in what will be his second career start at the 1.5-mile speedway in NASCAR Nationwide Series competition.

. While Scott only has one previous Nationwide Series start at Kentucky, he has been competing at the Sparta, Ky., track since 2007 when he competed at the track in the ARCA series. Scott picked up a 13th-place finish after starting that 100-lap race from the 19th position. Scott made the most of that first ever Kentucky race and came back a year later to earn the pole during the 2008 ARCA Series event. He led 13 laps and finished the race in the fifth position.

. Scott also has two starts at Kentucky in NASCAR Truck Series competition. Scott finished 32nd during the 2008 Truck Series race after an engine failure. One year later he picked up a sixth-place finish after starting from the front row in second place. Scott led 29 laps in route to the top-10 finish in 2009.

. The No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota team will take Chassis #122 to this weekend’s race at Kentucky Speedway. This chassis has been used by the team twice in 2011 and it has been raced to successful results. Scott has earned top-10 finishes in each of the races in which Chassis #122 was used. He finished 10th at Texas in April with the chassis and followed that up with an eighth-place finish at Charlotte in May. The backup car is Chassis #106 and it has not been raced during the 2011 season.

. Last Race: Scott teamed up with veteran driver Kenny Wallace as tandem racing occurred throughout the 250-mile race at Daytona International Speedway last Friday night. Scott and Wallace hooked up near the halfway point in the race and competed together throughout the closing laps. The duo were competing in the top 10 when an accident took place coming out of turn four as the field was coming to the checkered flag. Scott was caught up in the accident but still managed to cross the finish line in the 12th position.

. Scott remains ninth in the NASCAR Nationwide Series driver point standings. He is 13 points out of eighth place behind Steven Wallace.

. Scott will be a part of a group of Toyota drivers participating in a visit to the TEMA facility in Erlanger, Ky., on Wednesday, July 6 prior to the NASCAR race weekend at Kentucky Speedway. TEMA is the Toyota Manufacturing and Engineering headquarters. All participating drivers will be available to the media between 11:15 a.m. and 11:45 a.m.

What can we expect from Daytona this weekend?

Mike Wallace to mark milestone of 400th NASCAR Nationwide Series start on Friday

GAFFNEY, S.C. (July 5, 2011) – Mike Wallace will be walking a little taller this Friday at Kentucky Speedway just before the NASCAR Nationwide Series race starts.

When he climbs in the car and the command to start engines is heard, Wallace will make his 400th-career NASCAR Nationwide Series start. A trek that began in 1990 when he made his first series start at Martinsville Speedway driving the #40 Chevrolet for Marc Reno. This weekend, it will be the #01 Cowboys & Aliens movie Chevrolet, with GK Services on the car as an associate partner, with current owner Johnny Davis. This comes on the heels of the St. Louis native making his 700th overall NASCAR start just four races ago, as well.

In regards to the race at Kentucky, this will be his eight time taking the green at the 1.5-mile oval. In the past seven races there, his best start of 16th and finish of third both took place in 2008. He’s earned two top-five and two top-10 finishes, led nine laps and completed 95.percent (1335 of 1400) circuits contested. Last year, Wallace started 37th and finished 21st in this race.

Some quick facts regarding Wallace’s road to NNS start 400:

. Only seven of the 22 seasons in NNS have been full ones; and seven more had less than 10 starts.

. That first NNS start at Martinsville was a top-10 finish with him taking the checkered flag in sixth place after starting 24th in the Goodwrench/AC Delco 200.

. He’s led 750 laps and completed 81,820 miles of competition.

. Of his four wins, the first one took place at Dover in 1994. Finishing behind him, in order, were Terry Labonte, Mark Martin, Jimmy Spencer and Ricky Craven.

. Matter of fact, three of the wins took place that year with The Milwaukee Mile and Lucas Oil Raceway Park in Indy as the other two locations.

. His most recent win came at Daytona in July 2004.

. In addition to the wins, Wallace has achieved 22 top-five and 63 top-10 finishes.

. He’s been with his current team, JD Motorsports, since 2009

    Mike Wallace Quotes

On making NNS start 400: “I was thinking about that the other day. What means the most to me is the longevity I’ve held in this sport of racing. It means I have done a decent enough job that someone has decided I was worth putting in their car to keep me racing. I think that’s something to be proud of, especially the way things are being done today.”

“When I won the NASCAR Winston Racing Series regional title at I-44 Speedway in 1990, I told everybody I was going to make a career of racing and do it full time. They all thought I was crazy, but that’s exactly what I did making that first start at Martinsville and finishing sixth.”

“My first win at Dover was even more special because of the four Cup superstars that finished behind me that day. I was pretty excited about that more than the win, I think. My last win in 2004 – at Daytona – was special just because of where it took place. That gave me an ARCA, Truck and Nationwide Series win at that track; that’s pretty special to me.”

“But, as you look at how things are today, I don’t know if you’re going to see too many more drivers make 400 starts in the Nationwide Series. I know mine took 22 years and I didn’t race every season, or this would have come much quicker. But, the way drivers move up to Cup now, the 400 starts is going to take someone driving in every race for 11 seasons to achieve.”

“I would like to thank my family, every fan, every track, every sponsor and every team owner who let me be part of this for 400 starts. I couldn’t have done this alone, and it means a great deal to me.”

Clement Family Becomes Principal Owners of Iowa Speedway

NEWTON, Iowa – JULY 5, 2011 – Principal ownership of Iowa Speedway has transitioned from one Iowa family to another. FeatherliteR, Inc., founder Conrad Clement, originally from Newton, Iowa; along with his sons, Tracy and Eric; and his brother, Stan Clement, also from Newton, purchased U.S. Motorsports Corporation (USM Corp.) – the holding company that owns Iowa Speedway – effective June 30.

“My family has a 20-year history in the motorsports industry through our involvement with Featherlite,” explains Conrad Clement. “We’ve been intimately involved with Iowa Speedway since it was founded in 2006, and we’re looking forward to building on the momentum created over the last five years.”

The entire staff will remain in tact so fans continue to have a world-class race day experience at Iowa Speedway. Stan’s sons, Luke and Tyler, have also been appointed as corporate officers.

The Manatt family – owners of Manatt’s, Inc., a heavy construction company based in Brooklyn, Iowa – have been the primary investors since the track was built. They intended to help launch the Speedway and improve Newton’s economic vitality, and then transfer controlling interest so they could focus on their core family business.

Clement says he is very grateful for the Manatts’ contributions to the track, and acknowledges that this is an ideal time for his family to take principal ownership. He believes that fan support is critical to the track’s continued success, and ensuring that ticket-holders have an enjoyable race day experience is one of his top priorities. Clement and the staff will continue to explore new amenities and facility improvements to accommodate larger races and additional events at Iowa Speedway.

“The Clement family has expressed their willingness to invest in the track, its infrastructure and its future,” says NASCAR racing legend, and Iowa Speedway co-owner, Rusty Wallace. “Together, we can establish Iowa Speedway as one of the Midwest’s premier entertainment venues, and achieve our ultimate goal – hosting a NASCAR Sprint Cup race.”

Iowa Speedway President Jerry Jauron says fans can expect the track’s monumental growth to continue under its new ownership.

“We’ve added new races, fan amenities, sponsors and vendors every season – and we’ll continue to do so under the guiding vision of the Clement family,” says Jauron. “We’re looking forward to the remaining races on the 2011 schedule – and then we’ll gear up for 2012. We’ve got a very bright future ahead.”

Brad Manatt says it has been an honor to be involved with Iowa Speedway’s creation and legacy.

“It was our privilege to help build the track five years ago, and like a proud parent, we’ve enjoyed watching it thrive and grow – and we’ll continue to do so from the stands,” says Manatt. “We wish great success to Iowa Speedway and the Clement family.”

No. 32 Dollar General Chevrolet News and Notes

    • Last Start of 2011 with Turner Motorsports – Mark Martin will make his final NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) start this weekend with Turner Motorsports at Kentucky Speedway. In his first three starts, Martin posted one win, one top-five and three top-10 finishes. The win came at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and was the first victory for Turner Motorsports in 2011.

    • Wearing His Rookie Stripes – Even though Martin is a 22-year veteran of the NNS, he will be making his first start at Kentucky Speedway this weekend and therefore will be deemed a “rookie”. While Martin will be on track in his No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevy during the NNS rookie meeting, the No. 32 Dollar General Chevy will still have the bright yellow “rookie stripe” across the rear bumper.

    • Still Searching for No. 50 – Just as it is his final 2011 start with Turner Motorsports, this weekend also signifies Martin’s final opportunity this season to get to victory lane for his 50th career NNS win. Even though there is fierce competition for the title from Kyle Busch, who has 48 series victories, Martin still is the all-time win leader in the series and looking to get No. 50 at Kentucky Speedway.

    • A Model of Consistency – The No. 32 Dollar General team continues to impress with extremely consistent stats throughout the first half of the season. In 17 starts, the Trent Owens-led Dollar General team has scored two wins, eight top-five and 15 top-10 finishes. For the second consecutive weekend, the No. 32 team leads the NNS point standings.

    • Heading Home – This weekend is a homecoming for a member of the No. 32 Dollar General team. Mechanic Rob “Porkchop” Tracy hails from the capitol city of Frankfort, KY, located just under 60 miles from Kentucky Speedway.

    • This Week’s Impala – This weekend, Martin will pilot TMS-130 in the Feed the Children 300 on Friday evening. This is the same chassis he drove three weeks ago at Michigan International Speedway where he started 11th and finished seventh

Martin on his final start of 2011 with Turner Motorsports:

“I’ve had a lot of fun racing for Turner Motorsports this season. We were fortunate enough to get the win at Las Vegas and have had a few really solid runs in the meantime. I’m real hopeful we can get that Dollar General car to victory lane again this weekend at Kentucky. It would be a great way to finish off my time with the team. I can’t thank everyone at Turner (Motorsports) and Dollar General enough for giving me the opportunity to get in their cars a few times this year. They are a great group of guys and I’ve had a blast working with them.”
